random appreciation post

I really just- appreciate the tickle community so much. I have to give an example of why down below.

I've been into tickling ever since I was a kid, and as one does (as I still do) whenever I discovered something I liked, I went and searched for it associated with tickling. There was always one fandom in particular (what exactly it was doesn't matter for the point I'm making here) that I always really wanted to read stories for, BUT for whatever reason, that fandom seemed to have an excess of nonconsensual tickling stories. Like, where one character was being tickled by force or as a torture method, and they weren't enjoying it at all. And while of course it was kind of fun to see one character in particular (the typical grumpy, stoic type that I seem to have an affinity for even today) laugh like that, mostly it just made me feel uncomfortable, because it was clear they weren't having FUN. It got to the point where I actively stopped reading and even searching for tickle fics for the fandom because they all seemed to be like that, and it wasn't what I wanted or was okay with.

Well, recently I stumbled upon a relatively new fic for that fandom written here on Tumblr, featuring that character. I went in with trepidation because of past experiences, but was SO pleasantly surprised to find that not only did the character I always loved ENJOY getting tickled, but beforehand the other characters ASKED FOR CONSENT and then stopped when they needed them to! It was such a breath of fresh air, and I've been rereading it a lot since then, because it's the only one I've found like that so far, even having thoroughly browsed the appropriate tags here on Tumblr.

Something I really appreciate about a lot of fics here on this site (not all, of course, because different people like different things and whatnot) is that consent and having fun is SUCH a core theme among them. The amount of fics I've discovered as an adult that I WISH existed when I was growing up that feature asking for consent, talking about boundaries, appropriate aftercare, etc. is so much higher than anything I ever found as a kid. I could wax on about how important it is that today's kids/teens have SFW content like that, but that's not the point of this post.

The point is, in reading that fic about a character I've loved forever where they were ACTUALLY having a good time and being respected, I feel like I've healed a tiny part of my inner child. Finally, years and years later, the kind of fic I always WANTED to see for that fandom. And of course I hope there will be many more.

So, in general, thank you, tickle fic community, for writing and sharing the kinds of things that are healing parts of me as an adult. Words can't express how much it means to me. 💖

Interesting little thing, Sorn and Nym Orlith's names can both be found in the "male" section of drow names from Dragon Magazine (Sorn meaning enchanted or spell, Nym meaning skeleton or skull, and possibly Orly-th meaning Guild of Challenges).

Sorn says they fled because male drow are treated like dogs. At first I figured it meant his sister went with him for a genuine care of her brother and twin (and perhaps still is the case) but I wonder if Nym is trans and transitioned after leaving the Underdark but kept her name.

The downside to all this queer media releasing in such a short span of time is that season 2 of Heartstopper and the Red, White and Royal Blue movie are going to come out but I'm still going to be processing Good Omens 2

Was Cas evil in s6?

I don't think so...? I don't think he's evil there - just horribly, destructively and self-destructively wrong, combined with stubborn and prideful and self-righteous. He has plenty of flaws, but he's not evil while he's still Cas. He retains the brainwashed-angel-soldier mindset of, "Some harm is perfectly acceptable for the greater good", while being emotional enough by now to have a slippery grasp on the difference between his own will/needs and the greater good. He hates deceiving Dean but justifies it as 'protecting him'. He knows perfectly well that talking to Dean right back at the start would've put him on a different path, but he can't join the dots on his own and decide that what he's done and plans to do is morally wrong. I'm not sure Cas is capable of that at this point in his evolution.

After he soaks up the souls of Purgatory, it's hard to tell what's the basic messed-up Castiel, what's power-corrupted Cas, and what's Leviathan-influenced. None of Supernatural's antagonists are simple, and most of them are tragic in the "This could all have been avoided, if only—" way.

★ Guys the reason I fucking reblogged this was because I AM autistic and I relate to this. Don't come to my comments to preach to me about what autistic people do and don't experience, my experience is going to be different. And don't call us a dickhead for ignoring STUPID social cues.

While I don't agree that "a lot of times," because most of the time I miss them, I also reblogged because I thought it was funny?? Obviously it's an exaggeration?? Because social cues are stupid!

this constant interpretation that writers seem to go with, this understanding that Leia is quite important to Poe, but the way few writers seem to be able to follow that line to its natural conclusion that Poe is similarly important to Leia - gives a very unsympathetic reading of Leia for me. The idea that she "deals with" him, or thinks he's arrogant, or questions whether he's a good fit for leading the Resistance (or, apparently, thinks he's vain), really doesn't paint their dynamic in a good light - and I feel like really dismisses the surrogate mother/son relationship they have, and brushes aside the foundation of subtle affection that Carrie and Oscar worked into their performances which made tlj so good.

There is conflict you could go with between them! The fact that Leia wants to bring Ren back - how Poe might feel about that! It'd be a neat full circle moment to Leia's conflicting feelings about Luke believing and accepting Vader's redemption, when he'd tortured her and been present when they destroyed Alderaan, because it'd be placing her firmly in Luke's shoes. But instead, all canon seems to want to deliver is the concept that Leia means the world to Poe, and that Poe means very little to Leia.

anime movie recs?

Kind of interested in watching some anime movies to shake things up. Any recs? I've watched a handful of Studio Ghibli films and I know I definitely want to watch Belle at some point, but other than that I don't know as much about the movie side of anime. Thoughts?
