Massacre Round 15: Rats. Rats. We're the rats.
Ratboy (rat; Ratboy Genius) vs. Mouse King (rat or mouse (unknown); Barbie in The Nutcracker) vs. Stuart Little (mouse; Stuart Little) vs. Chuck E. Cheese (mouse who may or may not have been a rat before; Chuck E. Cheese mascot)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Submitters say:
"I love the ratboy genius series so much it's super creative and it has awesome music. Also Ratboy himself is really cool he's been to space and also the Minecraft dimension. He's a shapeshifter as well and can turn into other animals and stretch his body parts and stuff." (Ratboy)
"he’s voiced by tim curry which is pretty cool" (Mouse King)
"I liked this movie as a kid also I think it's funny to submit him lol" (Stuart Little)
"he's kind of an odd character bc he was redesigned a couple of times and the differences between "eras" are distinct enough that they're basically different characters, but they're all iconic and i'm indecisive. so if he makes the cut, feel free to pick your favorite design or just whichever comes up first in a google search!" (Chuck E. Cheese)

Eric is an underrated Barbie King
I know most people think about Julian or Dominick when it comes to the OG Barbie Movie love interests, but I feel like a lot of people don't think about Eric [the Nutcracker]. It could be because Barbie in the Nutcracker was the first movie released, and more people remember Princess and the Pauper because of the music but I really recommend BITN.
Eric has one of the most tragic backstories out of the entire BCU cast, aside from maybe Blair (Princess Charm School). Before the movie even begins-
Eric is orphaned, having already lost both parents to an unknown cause. Before his father passed, he said that Eric was not to have the Scepter until he was ready to be king- the Mouse refused to give up control and the power he wielded. With this, the Mouse cursed Eric into a Nutcracker form and began a manhunt to literally murder him. The Mouse, verbally, wants Eric dismembered, crushed, or burned alive, to the point of hunting him across realms. Along with that, the Mouse has also killed entire villages of people and cursed soldiers into mice forms (Eric later calls them traitors, meaning they might have had a choice of being turned into mice). Eric and Clara encounter the Peppermint village with no survivors beside two children who were gone before the massacre.
Because of the curse and the manhunt, Eric had to go into hiding and kept his true identity hidden from all those he met. During this time, the citizens of Parthenia had no idea what happened to the heir to the throne, being led to believe that he had either abandoned his people or killed by the Mouse. Later, when meeting Capt. Candy/Major Mint, Mint declared that Eric was lazy, irresponsible, and useless. Candy appeared devastated when "Nutcracker" said Eric was destroyed by the Mouse.
And yet, despite all of this, Eric remained determined to find the one person who could bring his people happiness- the Sugar Plum Princess. Eric didn't care what happened to him, yet he constantly showed compassion and kindness toward those he met. He was protective of Clara, yet treating her as an equal. He trusted her, he knew that she could save him- without knowing that she was the Sugar Plum Princess. He risked his life to not only protect her, but Capt Candy, rescuing him from the river chasm without a second thought.
Eric was willing to fight to the death to protect his people and to protect Clara. He, unknowingly, earned his people's respect by standing up to the Mouse, putting his own life at risk to protect Clara, before she broke the curse.
Eric is a kind-hearted, patient, and brave hero who shows only love to Clara. I believe he deserves to be mentioned alongside Julian and Dominick in terms of well known Barbie men.

Horror Movie Review: Nutcracker Massacre (2022)
This really should have been an ‘off the chain’ shlock-fest but instead it’s nothing more than a snore-fest.
Written by Joe Knetter, directed by Rebecca Matthews, and starring Beatrice Fletcher, Christophe Monplaisir, Julie Stevens, Andy Dixon, Patrick Bergin, May Kelly, and Stephen Staley. A movie called Nutcrack Massacre should not be this boring, yet here we are. Clara (Beatrice Fletcher) has recently dumped Paul, (Andy Dixon) her cheating boyfriend and doesn’t have the heart to tell her aunt Marie…

Nina + Ballet Headcanons
I’ve been watching tons of ballet videos lately and found my old performances and I’m super nostalgic cause I miss it a lot so here’s these
⁃ Her favorite dance/song ever is the Pas de Deux from the Nutcracker...also the Russian dance from it as well
⁃ All her ballet clothes are black, even her tights are tinted black rather than pink. Then she has her pointe shoes custom made to be black
⁃ She’s literally always practicing in her free time. Just chilling at home? Nope, she’s practicing. Waiting around the base for a mission? She’ll just use the kitchen counter or back of the couch as a bar
⁃ Her ballet has even helped her in combat, it makes her more graceful and light on her feet
⁃ Ballerinas tend to be...on the much taller side...so she has to work even harder to prove she can still keep up with her little 4’11 self
⁃ The reason she loves ballet so much is that the music eased her anxiety a lot when she was first free. Everything was happening so fast and she was basically brand new to the real world so it was a bit overwhelming, but she just put on some headphones and listened to some Tchaikovsky and it helped relax her
⁃ Plus the dancing part also relaxed her, but she loves how strict it is. There are exact movements and rules to follow, you’re given choreography and all you have to do is follow it, she’s really good at following orders and that’s all it is to her
⁃ Most think she’s assassinated her competition before, but this is the one thing that she won’t do that for. She wants to earn the role, the top spot of the class, etc. Yes she gets mad when someone gets the part she wanted, but she wants this to be the thing that she truly earns only for her skills as a ballerina, not as an assassin
⁃ Ballet is her way of being a real person and having a normal life, so she doesn’t like to drag her assassin persona into it

No but the Barbie teaser is actually perfect and here’s why
As someone who grew up on Barbie but can’t remember much cause that was over a decade ago, I can confirm that the one thing they did consistently was pop culture references.
Barbie was made during a time (the 2000s) where everything in media was about celebrity culture, reality TV and “keeping up with the trends”. We all remember the meme about putting Barbie in movies/shows that were absurdly different to the Barbie theme for humor’s sake (Barbie in Goncharov, Barbie in the Chainsaw Massacre, etc), and we did this because inserting Barbie into popular media was an already established thing by Barbie itself (Barbie Rapunzel, Barbie as The Black Swan, Barbie in The Nutcracker, you name it!)
With this teaser, they parodied Barbie in the intro to A Space Odyssey, but instead of the original message about humanity, it was about little girls upgrading from playing with baby dolls (a stigma that was pushed onto little girls throughout the centuries to “prepare them for motherhood”) to creating dolls that were already grown, accomplished girls/women that kids could imprint their personality on, and could use to describe their unequivocal selves without any stigma telling them what they should be.
Barbie opened the doors for little girls to embrace feminity as well as achieve whatever their own goals in life were; Barbie didn’t just make dolls and media works about becoming a mother or a housewife, it said “hey little girl, you wanna become an astronaut? Well guess what? Barbie did that, and so can you! (and she looked fashionable af doing it!)” And with this teaser not only parodying a popular media work that has been a staple of pop culture since the 2000s, but also using it to implement subtle feminist undertones, I feel like this is so in the spirit of the OG Barbie works that I honest to god think I’m gonna see it in theaters when it drops. And if its as good as I’m hoping, then you should too.
