The Color of the Sunspot's Milk
We don't drink milk on the Sunspot.
It's not really a thing for us.
We did not evolve from mammals, so we do not produce milk ourselves, typically. Actually, our life can't really be divided up into the same categories as Terran life, anyway, and the Evolutionary Engines that are used to create people now produce such a diversity of biological development that we can't use sweeping statements like that meaningfully. But, we strongly suspect based on evidence at hand that the Ktletaccete did not originally have anything like mammary glands.
And, on the Sunspot specifically, we do not consume anything produced by animals. It just never even occurred to the Founding Crew to set up the ship and our culture that way. The ecological balance of the Garden requires that we let the fauna live as naturally as possible without interference from people. So, we do not milk animals.
But it turns out that we drink something that is kinda of vaguely like milk. It often serves a similar culinary utility, particularly in baking.
We know this because we have been talking to our Earth custodians of the Terran Tunnel Apparatus, and they have tried a product they call Ryze that is an approximation of what we use on the Sunspot, and we've been trading notes.
So, in the search for accommodation, the ancestors of the Sunspot Ktletaccete developed a mixture of pureed fungus and algae that could provide a very young child or a disabled or elderly person with nutrients that might not otherwise be readily available to them. And we have been calling this something that our translators have decided to call "formula". We understand that this echoes the term many of you use for a fortified milk that you feed your infants, and that's acceptable.
But our formula comes in many varieties, customized for each person's needs and even each use they might have for it.
Fungal and algae farming has always been abundant and easy for us, so it is the least expensive food to create. It may not have been central to the diet of ancient Ktletaccete, but it has become pivotal to survival in space aboard our Exodus Ships. And now we use it in nearly everything.
We also eat a variety of nuts, fruits, grains, tubers, leaves, stalks, and other vegetable matter (or their Sunspot equivalents to what these words mean to you). And some of those things provide proteins and lipids that compliment what is provided by our various formulas, so depending on how we combine it we can create foods that sometimes resemble your breads, quiches, meat loafs, stews, etc.
But, also, Artisan crafted beverages is a huge thing here, which I understand some of your cultures might relate to. And our formula is central to that.
So, what are the main differences between our formula and milk? And what are the differences between our formula and something like Ryze?
Well, obvious, our formula is made entirely differently from milk, and does not share it's color. It's not white or even white-ish, typically.
Though some varieties of it can come close to white so that Artisans can add vibrant colors to it more easily without it turning brown, but the processing tends to remove a lot of nutrients from it, so it's not terribly popular outside of that visual utility.
It's also usually somewhat low on lipids, though those are definitely added for many baking purposes.
It's more of a suspension than an emulsion most of the time, as a result. But again, that varies on it's purpose.
And because of that, and the fact that it's made from fungus and algae, makes it very similar to things like Ryze, which is apparently currently available for something you call "a lot of money" by purchasing it over your Network (or Internet, as you say).
There are other drinks like Ryze, but it so happens that the girlfriend of our counterparts purchased Ryse specifically, so that is the one that they are trying. In particular, they are trying Ryze Matcha, as opposed to Ryse Coffee, since we don't have anything remotely like a coffee bean on the Sunspot, but we do have a green stimulant kind of vaguely like Matcha that can be added to our formula.
We can't really truly compare the sensations of drinking our various forumlas to drinking Ryze, because there is an enormous physical gulf between the Earth and the Sunspot, and we cannot transport either liquid nor taste buds and nervous systems across that distance. And translating words, even with in the same language, between two individuals' personal experiences is inherently inaccurate to begin with.
But we can make some conjectures.
As far as flavor is concerned, we can infer some things. Humans are omnivors with a variety of sensitivities to flavors, and apparently our counterparts are something called a supertaster. They are more highly sensitive to flavor than their typical peers.
They report that Ryze Matcha tastes "green". Not just that it is green in color and therefore the flavor it has can be described as green, but that it reminds them of other green things that they have eaten. There is a bit of a spinach flavor, they report, but its very faint. There is also a faint green tea flavor. We don't know what either of these things really mean, but we know that spinach is a leafy vegetable and that green tea is also made from leaves. But then, they also say that these flavors are not like either of these things, either. They're similar but different.
More specifically, they report that Ryze Matcha does not taste like most mushrooms they've eaten. In fact, it bears a closer resemblance to the flavors they get when they drink from an old jug of water that maybe has some green stuff growing on the inside of it.
"Why would you do that?" I asked them.
And they replied with, "Carelessness."
Anyway, this seems relatively in keeping with our experiences with formula. Usually, it tastes kind of like some other vegetable matter, but different. But, whether those ways are similar to how humans experience Ryse and vegetables on Earth, we really don't know.
What we do know for sure is color. That's something that can be measured quite precisely via the wavelengths of light.
Of course, we may perceive that color differently than you, but thanks to technological measuring devices and mathematics, we can use the same names for the same wavelengths of light. So, when I say that something is green on the Sunspot, you will be able to trust that if you somehow visited your neurology will interpret that thing as what you know of as green, adjusting for the difference in our ambient lighting, of course.
And, yes, some formulas we use are nearly as green as Ryze Matcha, and they are gorgeous.
But most formula ends up in a wide spectrum of color between what you call khaki and a deep vibrant purple, thanks to the dominant colors of most fungi and algae found on the Sunspot.
Our sun produces more ultraviolet light than yours does and there is less shielding between it and the surface of the Garden, so most of our plant life has developed its own shielding, which comes in varieties of purple. Mostly, it's the algae that carries the purple coloring. Most of our fungus isn't green, either, but even when it is, the purples of the algae shift the colors to brown when mixed with it.
But green mosses, ferns, and algae are found in the darkest, deepest parts of our forests, where the sun never reaches the ground directly, and we find that color to be captivating, so our ancestors bred a small variety of green food algae strains specifically for culinary variety.
And the flavor of that stuff is definitely what we could call green.

Horus
Offerings
Water, wine, whiskey, rum, scotch, beer, coffee, milk, juice, hot chocolate, (earthy) teas.
Meat, fish, fruits and vegetables, bread, grains, nuts, honey, cakes and other sweets, too (like chocolate); along with, lemon and other citrus things (cakes, candies, or fruit)
Knives, spears, bow and arrows, whips, harpoons, or other weapons can be dedicated to Heru. You may use anything else that you use to stay safe/ keep yourself safe like your car keys, taser, pocket knives, a bat, etc.
Jewelry or precious stones/metals like gold, silver, bronze, lapis lazuli, carnelian, red jasper, garnet, sunstone, and moonstone.
Items like the feather of maat, the ankh, the was scepter, the Eye of Horus, imagery of his crown, You may also offer him imagery of him (drawings, printed pictures, figurines), the falcon, or the sun and moon.
Devotional Acts
Helping the dying or the deceased. You can become a death doula and help grieving families and help make it easier for those who are passing or it may take the form of working in hospice or in an elderly home. You may also help clean up graves, making their headstone clear of dirt and debris. Horus’ job in antiquity was to revive his father and keep his social standing (you did not want your name forgotten).
As a protective deity, you may start working out, exercising, or taking up classes. Or you may see this as an opportunity to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves, whether in conversations or you may go the route of military/ law enforcement (he is known as the avenger of wrongs and defender of order).
Meditation. Meditation has been known to increase mindfulness and help you feel balanced overall, along with yoga.
Acts of maat, too. Maat can be getting involved in your community, helping those who are in need of assistance, donating to charities, helping your neighbor, helping your family; knowledge seeking, learning wisdom (sebayts), holding your tongue when you want to lash out; along with, giving offerings to the dead and to the gods, and performing rituals to them, too.
Signs
You may see an increase in seeing his scared animals like hawks/falcons/eagles (I’ve noticed they’ll use them accordingly based on your area and what’s native there), bulls, rams, or the sphinx.
The most obvious sign would be the wadjet eye- or the Eye of Horus, along with the Double Crown of Egypt (or the Pschent).
As a god of fertility and reviver of Asar, you may see start coming back to life if they’re on death’s door (you still have to put in the effort to try to revive it). Or you may notice you have a stronger “green-thumb.”
Horus of the Horizon is associated with the planet Mars, Horus who Limits the Two Lands is associated with Jupiter, and Horus the Bull of the Heavens is associated with Saturn. You may start seeing imagery based on these planets. Horus also has one eye associated with the sun, the other the moon- so you may start seeing a combination of that imagery or them separate.
You may have waves where you just feel “safe” and “protected.” Or you may get feelings of extreme heat from his solar aspects.

Canadian Politics
I’m so tired of the people getting mad about our Prime Minister, over matters that they obviously don’t fully understand. Causing me to not know if he’s actually doing his job or if he’s terrible.
All Politicians have agendas. This is the one of the few things I can agree with.
Taxes. There are taxes that people don’t understand. The thing about these taxes that people can understand is this. The poor aren’t being taxed. The ones getting taxed are those with money. So those who own 2 or more homes, cottages, mansions, or farms. That money from that tax goes towards paying off our debt. The other tax is the Carbon Tax, and that is only for companies like grocery store products (Ketchup, Milk or Coffee beans). The poor little farmer that sells at a tiny stand or… farmers market. Aren’t being taxed. That tax is then being used to give to those who are on… ODSP (Ontario Disability Support), the elderly (the retired) and welfare.
Gun Safety Laws. Guys… we live in CANADA. Most of our country is wilderness. Gun Safety doesn’t mean NO guns. It means there’s laws on owning and using guns. It’s just most of our gun owners AREN’T the crazy nut jobs in the States. There calm HUNTERS who deal with Wild Animals like GRIZZLY BEARS.
The Military. Yes our Military is sexist. The problem? ALL Militaries across the WORLD are SEXIST. The only difference between us and them is that we’re actually doing something about it. They are just talking about it because they don’t want you asking questions about your own military.
Our Prime Minister takes Luxury Trips? No. Our Prime Minister is the PRIME MINISTER of CANADA! Which means… he has SECURITY. So when he goes on a trip to take a break from us and his 💩 Job (Let’s be honest here. Being the Leader of a Country is a 💩 Job) he needs to take a Security Detail with him, because again… He’s the PRIME MINISTER of CANADA.
I know exactly what’s going to happen when the Conservatives take the Prime Minister seat because my Provincial Leader is a CONSERVATIVE. He’s absolutely horrible as you know by my recent comment about the Science Centre. Which is just the very tip of the very huge iceberg. That is his stunts over the years. You can look it up yourself. It’s right there for everyone to see.
NOTE!!!: I’m absolutely NOT telling you who to vote for. NDP is just as bad in my eyes, but I’m BEGGING you when the time comes. PLEASE don’t let our Conservative Party have a Majority vote. Majority means we’re way more screwed than normally, because the other Parties can’t step in to stop them from doing something 💩. They aren’t the lesser of two evils guys. There just screw us in an entirely different way. You can vote for anybody else. Vote for our Joke Party for all I care. Just don’t put your entire faith into the Conservative Party. There’s a reason we didn’t vote for them for the last 15 years and we especially didn’t vote for them during Covid. Please.🥺🥺🥺

More tips from a northern snow city:
A) Wool insulates better than most other fabrics and resists “wetness” better if you have to be outside. Wet cotton is dangerous and can cause hypothermia.
B) Salt stops working well below certain temps. Don’t assume if you have 4 wheel drive that you can handle it.
C) Close doors to rooms not in use. If power / heat goes out, isolate to one room if possible, and insulate with your blankets or even camping gear like tents or sleeping bags.
D) Do not use gas stoves to heat your home - it’s dangerous and ineffective. You are better off using the suggestion above.
E) If you have to drive somewhere, make sure you have signal flares or other emergency signal / contact method, make sure somebody knows where you are going / your route and when you expect to return, and put emergency provisions in your car (protein bars, water, blanket, etc.).
F) Cover your head and extremities - you lose most of your heat through your head and your fingers and toes are first to go to frostbite. Wind chill can be brutal.
G) Alcohol - don’t. It is bad for most of the things you’ll need during this (clear thinking, hydration, body heat regulation, etc.).
H) Food stuffs - shop ahead and store shelf stable, nutritious foods that don’t need heated to eat. You don’t want to open your fridge, especially in a power outage. Think canned beans (do you have a non electric can opener?), canned fruits, canned meats, protein bars, pop tarts (not the best but they are in water resistant packs and are good for kids - lots of sustaining fats and sugars), healthier snacks (sweet potato chips and Hippeas are a favorite of mine, along with nuts). Staples people usually rush for like bread, eggs, and milk are NOT your friends - milk needs to go in the fridge, eggs need cooked and refrigerated, and bread is pretty useless without something else. Powdered milk with cereal or shelf stable alternative milks (if you can use all of a small package or one from a single serve multi-pack) are better options if you want cereal.
I) Check on neighbors when possible, especially the elderly.
J) Snow removal - don’t overdo it, some snows are literally dubbed “heart-attack” snows due to high moisture content & weight (yes, different snows have different weights). Take frequent breaks.
So Your Temperate Home is Suddenly an Arctic Hellscape
As -10F hits area’s of the US who’ve never seen such temperatures in living memory, I wanted to give some tips from a Minnesotan who’s lived with these temps as a part of my life for 37 years.
1) Don’t Get Cocky. People used to these temps may laugh at our southern neighbors freaking out about the cold because yes, some parts of the US get such temps regularly every year. These people are being ignorant assholes. Our houses are mandated to have insulation that few of your homes will have. We pretty much all have huge puffy coats, and have well established winter weather gear drives for homeless and poor folks every year. We have expensive, well equipped infrastructure for cope with these temps and with large amounts of snow. You don’t. When it comes down to it, Minnesotans know to respect the cold temps- it’s just that a lot of the ways that do it are so commonplace as to be invisible to those who already have these habits.
2) Don’t go out wet. Dry your hair or stay inside. You will loose a lot of heat if you’re wet. Same for sweat, and wet diapers. And clothes with snow on them are now WET CLOTHES. Change into dry clothes as soon as possible.
3) If you have a shitty car battery or a car that sometimes struggles to start, then try not to use it. You’re unlikely to get the kind of temps where it’s impossible to start an engine (I’ve only experienced those temps a few times. Once my eyelashes froze shut and I almost froze to death in my own back yard. Don’t be like young me. Respect the cold.) If your car doesn’t start, you could be stranded somewhere, and realistically your area’s emergency services may be pretty overrun.
4) Very cold air doesn’t hold moisture well. Plan for extra hydration for people, pets, and plants. Even if your staying in- most home heaters pull cold air from outside, then dry it out even MORE in the process of heating it. Dehydration is a thing. Even if your home’s heater has a humidifier attached to it (if you’re not sure, then it probably doesn’t.) it’s a good idea to drink extra water. Right now I have a few pots of water just left out by heaters to evaporate as much as possible. My mom used to just heat huge camping pots on the stove all day in cold temps. Remember, dry nasal passages really muck up your bodies ability to fight airborne illness. This is not a great time for that.
5) Help out homeless folks in your area in any way you can. These temps can and do kill. And since we have more evictions than any society can conscionably defend this year, we have high numbers of homeless people. Which means area supports for unhoused folks are often underfunded and over-taxed.
6) Let your faucets drip. I know nobody likes to waste water but if your pipes freeze they will literally explode. Your home will flood. My mother’s kitchen got completely destroyed and it traumatized my childhood dog. Justa  bit of moving warm water will safeguard you from that.
7) Do. Not. Burn. Propane. Indoors.
8) Plan for potential power outages. Ice on the lines can cause this and again, your infrastructure isn’t prepped for this. Unplug anything in your home you’re not using to do your part to help prevent rolling blackouts.
9) Driving on ice is a SKILL. Your roads may be filled with people who do not have that skill. Please please, stay off the roads if you can- even if you have this skill these roads will not be prepped and will, again, be full of people who don’t know how to do this because it just hasn’t come up that much in their life.
Stay safe and stay kind, folks!

Asian Diets: Congee, a rice porridge, is consumed for its soothing qualities and easy digestion.
When to Seek Medical Help
While a balanced diet can aid recovery, it’s important to seek medical help if:
Symptoms worsen, such as a fever that doesn’t subside.
Dehydration sets in (dry mouth, dark-coloured urine).
If nutritional needs are not being met due to lack of appetite or inability to eat.
In severe cases, supplements or intravenous nutrition may be required, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly or those with underlying health conditions.
By incorporating these dietary recommendations and lifestyle tips, you can enhance the healing process during chickenpox and make the recovery journey smoother. Remember to always consult your doctor or healthcare provider if symptoms worsen or if you have specific dietary concerns.

We also need to use lighting that doesn't trigger medical issues for some people. Those fucking fluorescent lights triggered many a migrane.
Cafeteria food, at least back when I attended school, is not exactly food sensitivity/allergy friendly. If you wanted something to drink, it had to be milk, even if the milk will make you sick because of your lactose intolerance. Sure they were peanut free, but if you had any issues that weren't a nut allergy there weren't a lot of options.
Don't even get me started on special Ed that treats all the kids like they're trouble makers no matter what they're there for. Being treated like a criminal for a good portion of your childhood does a number on you. Trying to refill a water bottle right before you leave for a "volunteer" 'field trip' where they're making you sing with the elderly at some nursing home only to get in school detention for the day because after they told you that you couldn't go refill your bottle you went and did it anyway because you know you'll be sick if you don't stay hydrated.
When I say “school should be disability accessible”, I don’t just mean we need handicap rails and EAs. Kids should be able to miss a day without failing out of school. You shouldn’t be dismissed from clubs because your attendance record is “spotty” (true story). I once missed an entire week of school because of a terrible, unending migraine. I was expected to keep up with my studies despite the blinding pain that came with working on my computer. When I heard my teachers say that you couldn’t miss exams, I asked what I would have to do to be excused from them. Their response? “Either get a doctor’s note an hour before the exam or death of an immediate family member.”
I cannot express how rigid this expectation was. First of all, with my condition, I wouldn’t have enough warning about my sickness to go to the doctor and request a note. For many people, this is exceptionally difficult, especially with the current shortage of medical professionals. Next, it ignores the fact that my schedule may not line with theirs because of my medical needs. Once, I had to visit a hospital a province away (which I was on the waiting list of for over a year) on the same day as an exam. I begged my mother not to take me because I was so nervous that I would be marked as an automatic fail. I was lucky enough to make it work, but that’s only because of my spectacular support system consisting of family members and wonderful doctors.
Disabilities aren’t always about needing a bus that can accommodate wheelchairs. It’s already difficult enough for many of us to maintain school attendance without the harsh punishments involved for skipping a day. We need to be able to miss school without being punished. Only than can you claim that the school is “accessible”

No- a diet of meat, cheese, and alcohol every day isn't good for you, and it doesn't matter that's natural.
Just because your food is more ‘natural’, it doesn’t mean that your food is healthy. Just because you are currently in an area where farming is popular, and people receive their food from that farm, it doesn’t mean that the food is automatically better for you. What you’re eating still matters when you’re talking about overall health.
Sometimes I’ll see people from my area go to their home countries in south eastern Europe (the Bálkans) and they’ll be on a farm, visiting the villages where their families live- and they’ll claim that the food is automatically better for them because it hasn’t been processed. Girl, eating goats milk and cheese isn’t good for you, it’s still a meat predominately of meat and dairy, that isn’t good for anyone, anywhere. This is such a weird hippie belief, but whats strange about it is that these are south east europeans that don’t realize that they’ve been Americanized in that way. The idea that anything in regards to food that’s more natural, is somehow better for you automatically is interesting, but stupid because it’s not based in science or reality.
Lastly, it’s nuts to me that the same group of people that visit their families in the Bàlkans every summer will walk around and see their elderly family members and random citizens on the street with stomachs 4 inches far, will then turn around and argue that people eat “better” over there. HOW? They look like shit. They eat like shit, they eat meat and cheese as I’ve said earlier, they drink alcohol, but many men will drink this beverage called ráki which is essentially just a Bourbon that’s popular in the Bálkans. Grown men especially will drink that in the evenings with other men all night, and smoke cigarettes! Which is why so many of their people have such hoarse voices. Not to mention most of their teeth are either different colors, or sometimes missing.
These are not folks that have the best nutrition and exercise practices, and I’m not saying any of this to be rude to them, I understand that many of these people who live out there don’t have access to the best healthcare information or access. This is just one of the reason why they don’t perform very well in sports. They don’t have a culture of eating well and taking care of their bodies.
I understand that in many western or full developed nations there’s a lot of unhealthy ingredients that are added to make food last longer and taste better. There’s a lot of terrible fast food restaurants that offer horrible food to people with very low prices and for people that have an eating problem, it can be hard for them to stay away from these foods. There are a lot of issues with how people eat in full developed nations- but that doesn’t mean all of a sudden that people who live in semi- or underdeveloped nations all of a sudden have this incredible bill of health, and that their health practices are just without flaw! Especially when we can see what these people look like simply by going there, taking photos or videos or asking those that are apart of those cultures.
(If you do want to follow the diets of people who live very long, look into Asian diets. They aren’t eating nearly as much red meat, dairy, or fried food)

"Why's everyone fighting over that tiny piece of land, anyway?"
Setting aside the religious aspects, cultural significace, core beliefs, antisemitism and landback as a concept, here is a list of fruit currently in my house (in Israel), showing just what you can find here in august:
(keep in mind my family is middle-upper class, I'm an unemployed student with elderly parents on a pension)
15 mangos.
2 pineapples.
6 apples, 3 red 3 green.
No watermelon since they didn't look that good last time we went shopping.
1 fig.
10 peaches, bought them in a batch. I like them better than nectarines but both are great.
4 plums.
2 boxes of cherry tomatoes.
9 sabress or as you call them "prickly pears".
1kg sable grapes (the black kind, after trying different types we concluded they're sweeter).
2 boxes of blueberries.
1 box of raspberries.
1 box of dates.
Half a lemon.
2 and a half avocados.
No lychee, we finished the box yesterday... I prefer longan anyway and there's a tree growing nearby I can pick those from.
No cherries, passionfruit, loquat or apricots because they went out of season this month...
No bananas because they're high carb apparently.
No kiwis or pears because neither of us like those, no carambolas or papayas since only mom likes them...
That's it for fruit. But you know what? Every single thing I mentioned here is local produce. And those are only fruit! Here in this tiny place farmers grow wheat, corn and sorghum, raise livestock- we buy eggs from our neighbor, who manages a chicken coop. Not to mention, the wide variety of veggies, local nuts like almonds and pecans. Heck, Israelites have been tending to olive orchards on this land for over 7000 years!
There's a reason why this land has been regarded as the land of milk and honey, it's lovely. Then again, before 1948, much of the land now used for farming was instead a malaria ridden wetland. Early zionists planted trees and dug tunnels to the ocean to dry out the large swamps, effectively terraforming the land into what it is today. In the south, they insisted to enrich the dry dessert lands of the negev, built a water piping system and planted crops where before it, it didn't seem likely for anything to grow. This land is precious and working it is rewording. It's our home and we get to devote ourselves to it, grow so many delicious fruits and eat them too.
Next month we'll have guavas, melons and persimmons, I'm already excited!

It is said that the disease
It is said that the disease in our body is caused by viruses, bacteria etc.
And the same viruses and bacteria also cure the disease in our body.
Is the prevention of disease due to bacteria eating bacteria itself?
Which bacteria helps prevent disease?
Below are a few of the probiotics that are taken to treat or prevent disease, and how they're thought to work.
Lactobacillus. In the body, lactobacillus bacteria are normally found in the digestive, urinary, and genital systems. ...

Causes and Prevention of Foodborne Illness
foodborne illness statistics
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates roughly 1 in 6 Americans (48 million people) get sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die of foodborne diseases each year. Symptoms of foodborne illness include upset stomach, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and dehydration; they can range from mild to severe and death.
Foodborne illness can affect anyone who eats contaminated food; however, certain populations are more susceptible to becoming ill with a greater severity of illness. These populations include infants and children, the elderly, pregnant women, people taking certain kinds of medications or immune suppressed (e.g., cancer patients, diabetics).
To prevent foodborne illness, it is necessary to understand how food becomes unsafe to eat and what proactive measures can be taken to keep food safe.
causes of foodborne illness
The causes fall into the following 3 categories:
Biological hazards include bacteria, viruses, and parasites. Bacteria and viruses are responsible for most foodborne illnesses. Biological hazards are the biggest threat to food safety. They can be inherent in the product or due to mishandling (e.g., time/temperature abuse).
Chemical hazards include natural toxins and chemical contaminants. Some natural toxins are associated with the food itself (i.e., certain mushrooms, PSP in molluscan shellfish), some are made by pathogens in the food when it is time/temperature abused (i.e., histamine development in certain seafood species). Some additives, such as sulfites, can be a hazard to some people. Chemical contamination can occur when products (i.e., cleaners) are not used correctly.
Food allergens are a chemical hazard. Some people are sensitive to proteins in foods. Every food is different. Eight major food allergens include milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish (lobster, crab, shrimp), wheat, soy, peanuts, tree nuts.
Physical hazards can include metal shavings from cans and plastic pieces or broken glass.
microbiology of foodborne illness
Bacteria are single-celled organisms which multiply by cell division, under appropriate environmental conditions. The conditions that influence bacterial growth are the food itself, acidity, time, temperature, oxygen, and moisture. Most bacteria need nutrients to survive. They obtain these nutrients from food. Bacteria grow best in food that is neutral to slightly acidic (acidity is measured by pH). Microorganisms have different acidity (pH), temperature, and oxygen requirements for optimal growth. Bacteria need time to grow and they grow rapidly between 41°F and 140°F. Bacterial growth is slowed at temperatures below 41°F and limited at temperatures above 140°F. Some bacteria require oxygen to grow (aerobic), some grow when there is no oxygen (anaerobic), and some can grow with or without oxygen (facultative). Bacteria will grow when food and water is available. If water is bound or tied up with, for example salts or sugars, it is not available to be used by bacteria. This concept of available water is referred to as water activity (Aw).
Some bacteria can be further categorized:
Some bacteria are spore formers. The spore protects the organism during periods of environmental stress. When the conditions become suitable, the organism germinates from the spore and continues the growth cycle.
Some bacteria produce toxins that cause illness.
Molds are a multi-cellular fungi that reproduce by fruiting bodies that break and release thousands of microscopic mold spores, each capable of growing under the right conditions. Molds can send “roots” into the food to provide nourishment to the spore. Molds prefer damp, dark environments for optimal growth and they grow readily on almost any food, as well as walls, ceilings, and other areas of high moisture. Some molds produce toxins that can cause illness.
Viruses are the smallest known organisms. They cannot multiply in food—they need a human host. Viruses are transmitted to food from infected people.
Parasites include worms and protozoa. They cannot multiply in food; they multiply in a host cell.
However, there are also unseen single-celled microorganisms which we call protozoa.

You are what you eat
Nutrition and Wellbeing
©https://www.health.harvard.edu/topics/nutrition
What is nutrition?
The foods we consume, or our diet provides us with nutrients that is utilized by the body in order for it to grow and function. This process is called nutrition and its relationship to diet is complex. No single food can provide all the nutrients needed by the body so eating a variety of foods and taking supplements is recommended. To break it down, nutrients are divided into macro- (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). These nutrients, the macro-and the micro, play different roles in the functioning of the body such as growth and repair, structure and function of cells, and metabolic functions (Zoohori, 2020). Although everyone is entitled to good nutrition, some groups are considered more vulnerable and these pregnant and lactating mothers, infants and children, and the elderly. Depending on the age, the nutrition requirement varies to accommodate their needs appropriately.
Why is it important to wellbeing?
Nutrition contributes to our wellbeing because it helps in growth and development, protect us from illnesses, maintains body weight and reduce the risks of chronic diseases (Australian Government-Department of Health and Aged Care, 2024). Good nutrition also provide energy to do everyday tasks such as going to school or work and sports activities. Aside from physical health certain foods also aid in mental and cognitive health, these are your Omega-3 (Dighriri et. al, 2022).
Intervention/exercise
Moderation, variety and balance is important in the diet. Choosing nutritious foods can be daunting as there are too many factors to consider such as food habits and income. When buying groceries, stick to the 5 food groups: (1) vegetables and legumes/beans, (2) fruit, (3) grains, (4) lean meats and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts and seeds and legumes/beans and (5) Milk, yoghurt cheese and/or alternatives (Australian Dietary Guidelines, 2013). Shopping for groceries can be nutritious and cheap if you have list it down or a prepare a meal plan. This way, one can only limit the purchase to what is on the list and can allocate a certain amount for food budget. In addition, mealtime habits can also be tweaked to contribute to overall wellbeing (Australian Government-Department of Health and Aged Care, 2021). Eating breakfast is number one as it is the important meal of the day. Eating on time is advised as consistent routine aids in metabolism and digestion. Screen time while eating should be avoided as much as possible because it distracts the individual from realizing that they are full and eventually tends to eat more.

Bowynn Gods: Arn
Tumblr media
Arn  (Arn)  God of the North wind and the lord of the north. In some respects also the god of winter. He is often called “The Winter Wizard.” He is the eldest of the wind gods and as such, he is sometimes considered their watchers. Arn is the god that the goddess Myliea wed on the holiday of Kymeliea (also known as Candlemas and Imbolc). Their home resides in the far north and he accompanies Myliea on her first appearance on the winter solstice. In some ways, Arn is seen as a Bowynn version of Father Christmas and Santa Claus; On Winter Solstice eve Arn visits the homes that are decked in winter finery and have a candle lit in the window. If content, Arn will knock his staff on the doors and shutters, blessing the house and leaving a small gift at the door. Often these are in the form of foods; nuts, dried fruit and for kids, candy is left. Much like his contemporary, Arn has a stable that houses 12 great elk, which serve as his mounts.
Arn is seen as an elderly man, sometimes adorned with white bird wings. His garments are of blue color, a wreath of holly on his head and in his hands, a staff with lantern on top, shaped like an acorn. When not in his godly form, he will appear as a white wolf or cardinal. Both of which are sacred to the god. On his side is a shoulder bag which holds the gifts to mankind. Arn is sometimes seen accompanied by the older winter mammoth god, Yormell, who also bears the same title of “The Winter Wizard.”
Sacred gifts and offerings to Arn often consist of milk, fresh water, elk, wolf, feathers, cardinal, snow and white flowers. Pretty much anything winter and north wind related is sacred to him.

大家好! During my last grocery run, I found an unsweetened soya bean milk and purchased a carton of 6 packs, as well as macademia nuts. Certain nuts, like macademias and cashews, are delicious when added to tofu veggie stirfried noodles for a moderately healthy weekend breakfast. I've seen Jon Kung use soya bean milk as a soup base for noodles and might try his recipe. Besides his protein choice of pork belly, shrimp/sardines, golden mushrooms, radish, carrot, Napa cabbage and spring onions/leek might also work, or lotus root, sweet peas, tau kwa (firm tofu) and macademia nuts for a vegan version; it may even be used as a soup base for pao fan (soupy rice)!

Also, when will this craving for noodles end? If you're in the noodle business, you know which influencer to engage to promote your dishes! At a new stall, I ordered their yu piao tang mian (fish maw soup noodles); what was served was yu piao tang (fish maw soup) + mian (noodles) 😅 This is essentially an elevated bak chor mee with yu piao, known here as a very rich source of collagen. After finally tasting dry mee pok (flat yellow noodles), I'm still firmly on Team Soup #notsorry

Back it was to the ma la xiang guo (mala hotpot) stall where I loaded up on nourishment in qing tang (clear soup) - fish, fu pi (tofu skin), Chinese mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, cabbage, kelp and roasted peanuts. I also revisited the yong tau foo stall and feasted on tofu, fu pi, carrot, radish, broccoli, brinjal, Napa cabbage and seaweed. Fruit is undeniably important in our daily meals, but to health-conscious family, friends and I, veggies are king; we eat a lot of them. To help you increase your veggie intake, I'll be sharing more tasty recipes. Variety helps us avoid boredom here and I hope it helps you!

This week, Grace and Douglas officially moved into their new home, quite some distance away. Douglas had wanted to drive me to and fro, but I've been looking forward to hopping on public trains and exploring new food spots at the same time. Eventually, he relented and I checked the route via a public transport app - gosh, this will be a very long journey to unfamiliar territory! Before making my way there, I headed back to the vegetarian stall for unpolished rice congee but they'd sold out, so I ordered their chao guo tiao mian (fried flat rice noodles and egg noodles) instead. Happy that I didn't decide to visit another stall, the hunch-backed elderly uncle heaped food onto my plate.

Stomach full, I made my way to Grace's and Douglas' new home, which involved a total of 26 train stops and 2 train platform switches! The journey took about 2 hours, including a bus ride to the MRT station, making all those stops, then Douglas picking me up and driving about 5 minutes to their block of flats. It was only later that I realised there was a shorter way to get to their home. I'll share more about this in the next post. 下次见!
