Terve, your blog is a fun cultural insight to suomi and it is greatly appreciated. I am planning a 2 week trip around finland to wild camp, stay at camp grounds, and stay in hotels. Can you discuss camping on public land? How does one know that the land is public and not private? How do i find roads or areas off main roads to stay the night? Also, do gas stations and cafes in finland refill your clean coffee thermos instead of giving a disposable cup? Are there water fountains and ice machines and such at gas stations to fill reusable water bottles? How do I make a friend to discuss details of my trip and get the most finnish experience possible? :)
Terve! I'm really sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you on this.
I'm personally not someone who does camping, so I had to do some research (and I was busy otherwise, and preparing the Independence Day queue took priority). Perhaps one of my followers can give you more practical advice, too.
Most land is privately owned in Finland, but we have a concept called "everyman's rights" which means you have the right to roam and enjoy nature within some limitations and responsibilities regardless of who owns the land.
Everyone is allowed to:
walk, ski, cycle, or horseback ride freely (except very near homes and other private buildings or through farm fields and nursery plantations which could easily be damaged)
camp out temporarily a reasonable distance from homes
pick wild berries, mushrooms and flowers, as long as they are not protected species
fish with a simple rod and line
use boats, swim or bathe in inland waters and the sea
walk, ski, or drive a motor vehicle or fish on frozen lakes, rivers, and the sea
all the above can be restricted or forbidden in national parks and other nature reserves during certain seasons or year-round to protect sensitive areas and threatened species of plants or animals. Please pay close attention to any restrictions.
It’s NOT allowed to:
disturb people or damage property
disturb reindeer, game, breeding birds, their nests or young
let pets off leash
cut down or damage trees
collect moss, lichen, or fallen trees from other people's property
light open campfires without permission, except in an emergency
disturb people's privacy by camping too near them or making too much noise
leave litter
drive motor vehicles off road without the landowner's permission
hunt without the relevant permits
fish with nets, traps, or a reel and lure without the relevant permits
This pdf by the Ministry of Environment goes into more detail.
If you want to sleep in the car, there are rest stops on major roads where one could stay. They sometimes have info boards, tables, and dry toilets. But usually just a large bin. As long as you are not bothering anyone and your car is legally parked, you can sleep in your car anywhere you like. Generally speaking for one to two days. As far as the law is concerned, it is always preferable you stop and sleep instead of driving while half asleep. You are also allowed to park for rest/sleep on small private forest roads near the main road for safety.
If you are in a city/residential area, the police might check on you, but generally they'll just want to know you're ok because a concerned citizen called them. They might ask you to move somewhere else if the concerned citizen is somehow inconvenienced by you (maybe you're just too close to their property for their comfort). In that case, the police can advise where you could go instead.
A caravan has more restrictions. If you see a sign saying "leiriytyminen kielletty" (camping prohibited), you'll have to go somewhere else if you want to park a caravan and take out barbecues and lawn chairs. Camping prohibited does not mean you are not allowed to stop for the duration of sleep.
I actually don't know about the coffee cup, but my gut instinct is that yes, they can and will do this for you if they're not super busy and you ask nicely.
There may be public water fountains, but any tap will give you drinkable water. Tap water is safe to drink everywhere in Finland unless specifically advised otherwise. Cafés and petrol stations will probably be happy to fill in your bottle, too, if you ask.
Ice machines are pretty rare in Finland as far as I know. I've only seen them in some hotels for guest use and at restaurants/bars behind the counter or in the kitchen. Your typical Finn will make their own ice cubes in the freezer should they need them. Some supermarkets do sell them though.
I'm not a camper, so hopefully my followers can help you with making friends with like-minded Finns. From the top of my head, I think Reddit's r/Finland might be a place to start. You could also look for camping-related forums.
For a Finnish experience, definitely swim in a lake! Especially if it's summer time. If there's no one around, ditch the swimsuit. :) Also try the sauna. Maybe sleep in laavu or autiotupa.
Remember to have mosquito repellent and a sleep mask. There are a lot of mosquitos in Finland in summer, and if you're not used to the midnight sun, you might find it difficult to sleep without a mask.

Pedagogy Is The Theory, Method And Philosophy Of Teaching Of A Child
Pedagogy only refers to the teaching of children and the word pedagogy is derived from a Greek word ‘paidagogos’ which literally means ‘Leader of children’. The use of word surged during the 1900s as more emphasis was placed on the science behind learning, but it has been seen that, since then, the use of ‘pedagogy’ has been in decline. Visit the nurseries motor city!
The cause of this decline is the rise in the world of teachers and this work load is continuously on the rise. The work load has also caused less time to learn about academic fields and studying their methods.
What is the significance of pedagogy in modern classroom?
We have to start from 1898 which arguably the first approach of pedagogy:
Behaviorism perceived by nursery in Al Furjan
It centres on the idea that the teacher should be in control of the classroom and the repetition is the best way to learn. The man named Edward Thorndike introduced this Idea and it all started with a cat in box.
Thorndike’s Learning Theory
It might sound strange but Thorndike learning theory began as an experiment and for this he placed the cat in a puzzle box. That cat was rewarded with a treat for working out the levers and buttons to press in order to free itself. Thorndike concluded that the cat associated escaping from the box with getting a treat and the cat has shown improvement each time by escaping faster.
This is called operand conditioning and it the basis of behaviorism, but can it be made applicable for classroom learning. Psychologists like BF skinner began to apply these method to education, arguing that teachers need complete control of the lesson for students to learn best.
Skinner even championed a teaching machine, which allowed students to answer questions and immediately find if they were correct. He called this reinforcement, where, like Thorndike’s cat, the student learns right behavior over time through immediate feedback.
Tumblr media
Today behaviorism remind us that giving praise does not just encourage students, but also guides them by giving them structure to the learning. But what this fails to take into account is individual thinking and giving learners independence. If searching nurseries near me then come to green grass!
When a teacher, or a machine, is given complete control, the student is not as likely to develop critical thinking and self-expression. By only taking into account observable behavior, not what is going on in student’s minds, learning cannot realistically tailored the students’ needs.
However for the purpose of exams and student behavior, behaviorism still mostly works. Teacher led learning is a pillar for today’s classroom. The pedagogy exists to compare and evaluate the ways of teaching, so there is a room for next approach in context of improvement.

Malvína Day Nursery was designed to ease separation anxiety in young children
No Architects has incorporated plenty of windows, places to hide and varying floor levels into this welcoming nursery in the Czech capital of Prague.
Located in the city's Karlin district, Malvína Day Nursery is arranged across the 130-square-metre ground floor of a larger kindergarten. Previously an office space, the nursery caters to young children between nine months and two years of age.
Egg-shaped windows near the exit allow children to wave goodbye to their parents
Local firm No Architects was asked to convert the space into an environment where children would feel safe and secure while giving them the freedom to explore their interests.
"We truly believe that design informs the way people behave and develop relations, and with kids it works completely visibly," No Architects co-founder Jakub Filip Novák told Dezeen.
"We wanted to create an atmosphere that would be helpful for children's development and that would challenge them in a positive way."
Chairs and tables of different sizes allow children play together across age groups
The nursery rooms are organised around a central space with large windows so that there are clear sightlines across the floor plan.
Bright blocks of colour were used to highlight important areas such as the kitchen counter, lockers and play areas.
Hidden dens and nooks give children the freedom to explore
"The space itself was quite dark – it's deep and there wasn't too much daylight," said Novák, who started No Architects together with Daniela Baráčková in 2009.
"So we chose a lot of white and light finishes, natural oiled plywood and warm colours that correspond with the nursery's branding."
Another egg-shaped window allows carers to look into the sleeping area
Everything was designed to be easily visible and within reach, so day-to-day operations can be streamlined to allow the carers to spend more time with the children.
For kids who find it difficult to part from their parents, the studio installed windows near the exits where they can wave goodbye while being held up by their carers.
The cloakroom features mustard yellow and navy blue lockers
"We wanted to help the children get over separation anxiety in a positive and constructive way and help teachers to stay calm and focused," Novák explained.
"We achieved this through a clear articulation of space and by creating a sense of playfulness in the design, including quiet corners, places to hide and different levels so that the kids can feel more in control of the environment."
An open kitchen allows children to feel involved in the food preparation
Windows were also integrated into the sleeping and playroom areas as well as the unisex toilets, to allow kids who are old enough to safely use the bathroom with carers on hand in case assistance is needed.
A series of steps were installed in the cloakroom to raise children up to an adult's height and prevent carers – particularly grandparents – from having to bend over to help them with their coats and shoes.
An open-plan layout allows carers to keep an eye on the children
An open kitchen allows the children to observe the food preparation process before dining at the kitchen counter to create a more "collective experience".
The kids can also access snacks from a lower kitchen counter if they are hungry outside of allocated meal and snack times.
Stepped seating and platforms with mats are used throughout the rooms to create varied landscapes while keeping children easily visible to the carers.
Other playful features such as slides and dens were introduced to encourage exploration.
Stepped play areas are bolstered with yellow mats
"We made hidden corners on purpose to make it more challenging and more playful," said Nóvak. "It creates more interactions and takes longer for the children to discover the whole space."
Desks and chairs in three different sizes enable children of all ages and heights to easily play together, while small-scale toys that encourage motor skill development are hidden around the space.
A quiet sleeping area includes a row of cots for younger children and a series of mats for the older ones.
Primary-coloured pendant lights illuminate the space
In Japan, architect Takaharu Tezuka designed this Tokyo kindergarten as a continuous space complete with an oval roof deck, allowing for unfettered learning and play rather than imposing physical boundaries on the children.
Elsewhere, architecture firm BIG installed curvaceous wooden reading dens and lily pad-like cushions in the first school of co-working company WeWork.
Photography is by Studio Flusser.

HOLIDAYS IN VICTORIA WITH EXOTIC LIFESTYLES
Tumblr media
Embracing the tip of Australia's east drift, Victoria is Australia's second-littlest state, covering 227,600 square kilometres - generally the extent of the British Isles. An abundance of assorted areas and attractions are stuffed into this conservative zone, with clearing coastlines, unblemished shorelines and national stops and woodlands abounding with untamed life, in addition to wineries, lakes and mountains offering skiing, ascending and climbing. The best part is that a significant number of Victoria's one of a kind and shifted scene are effectively come to as day trips from Melbourne. Victoria is known as a place for education. Universities, colleges, vocational training centres and institutions for professional studies have been established long back and are proving vital for giving quality education. Melbourne Melbourne is the seaside capital of the southeastern Australian territory of Victoria. At the downtown area's is the cutting-edge Federation Square advancement with courts, bars, and eateries by the Yarra River. In the Southbank territory, the Melbourne Arts Precinct is the site of Arts Centre Melbourne - a performing expression and the National Gallery of Victoria with Australian and indigenous workmanship. Melbourne Museum and the Royal Exhibition Building investigate city history and culture. The Immigration Museum and the Chinese Museum give varying social points of view on nearby settlement, while Old Melbourne Gaol offers knowledge into nineteenth century jail life. A noteworthy shopping goal is Queen Victoria Market, a Victorian-time working with nourishment slows down. The city's nineteenth century "laneways" and shopping arcades are fixed with bistros, exhibitions and boutiques. The riverside Royal Botanic Gardens protect 10,000 or more plant species and Yarra Park is home to the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Phillip Island Phillip Island, a famous day trip from Melbourne, lies simply off Australia's southern drift. At Summerland Beach, onlookers assemble every day at dusk to watch the Penguin Parade, when penguins come aground in gatherings. The Nobbies outcrop is the review site for Seal Rocks, home to an extensive settlement of Australian hide seals. If you explore, you may see koalas dozingand you can have breath taking glimpses of wild life. Phillip Island Circuit annually hosts festival of motorsports events like Moto GP, Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and World Super Bikes Championship. It is the largest historic meet in southern hemisphere attracting awe-inspiring cars and motor bikes from Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world for races. Cowes, the island's principle town and convenience centre point, has protected north drift shorelines. Adjacent to it, the Koala Conservation Centre is a haven for nothing meandering koalas and wallabies with a lifted footpath and treetop perception focuses. Toward the east, Rhyll Inlet is a wetland save with swimming flying creatures and footpaths going through mangroves. A short extension prompts Churchill Island, a nineteenth century cultivating settlement with conventional patio nurseries. Sticking beyond any confining influence sea, tough Cape Woolamai is home to a settlement of short-followed shearwaters. Appended to the cape, Woolamai Beach is a piece of the Phillip Island National Surfing Reserve. Yarra Valley The rich Yarra Valley is Victoria's chief wine district and end of the week escape - mostly for its nearness to Melbourne, yet essentially for the 80 or more wineries, brilliant eateries, national parks and natural life. This is the place to ascend at first light in a tourist balloon over interwoven fields and vineyards and to kick back with a pinot noir at world-class wineries. The Yarra River begins its voyage in the upper spans of the Yarra Ranges National Park, going through Warburton and near Healesville before twisting into Greater Melbourne and discharging into Port Phillip Bay close Williamstown. Coldstream is viewed as the entryway to the Yarra Valley winery locale, and most of the wineries are found inside the triangle bound by Coldstream, Healesville and Yarra Glen. Further southeast, Warburton is the portal to the Upper Yarra Valley area. There's another bunch of wineries around Wandin and Seville along the Warburton Hwy. The Great Ocean Road The Great Ocean Road is one of Australia's most well-known street visiting courses. It takes explorers past world-class surfing breaks, through pockets of rainforest and quiet ocean side towns and under koala-filled tree overhangs. It flaunts transparent limestone precipices, dairy ranches and heath lands and gets you very close with the slamming floods of the Southern Ocean. Chase out the separated shorelines and beacons in the middle of the towns and the thick eucalyptus woodlands in the Otway hinterlands to truly get away from the groups. As opposed to going to the Great Ocean Road, a byway at Geelong can take you the long, lackadaisical path there, through the Bellarine Peninsula with visits to enchanting Queens cliff and wineries in transit. GOLD FIELDS It was the discovery of gold mines at various sites and locations in Victoria in the year 1851 that caused a major movement of the people from European countries to settle here and so called Gold Rush brought wealth to the nation. The digging of gold fields and extraction of gold from mines brought prosperity and the wealth thus secured was used for construction of monumental buildings, roads, bridges, railways, trade centres, custom house etc. As amazing as Ballarat and Bendigo seem to be, you have to get out and investigate the nation towns and previous gold-mining relics that make up focal Victoria to truly value this piece of the world. Visiting any semblance of Castlemaine, Kyneton, Maryborough and Maldon will give you a decent comprehension of the extraordinary development and inescapable decay of the gold towns, however you'll additionally go through perfect wide open and an undeniably prospering (and popular) wine and sustenance locale. Food & Wine Victoria adores its sustenance. An energy for road sustenance and exploratory high-end food has been joined onto a long-standing multicultural culinary scene that has few friends. Territorial Victoria is not the slightest bit playing second fiddle to this - its luxurious accreditations keep on soaring in little nation towns, for example, Kyneton, Beechworth, Birregurra and Red Hill. It additionally accompanies heaps of regarded wine areas, from the Yarra Valley to the King Valley, Mornington Peninsula to the Bellarine Peninsula and Rutherglen. There's additionally an index of boutique distilleries and espresso roasters to round it out. The quality wine with a select flavour and distinct aroma is the popular product from Victoria and its superiority is acknowledged worldwide as the wine from Yarra Valley Vineyards. Sea food is another speciality of Victoria and it is prepared from fresh catch of variety of fish and other sea creatures. There are plenty of options for restaurants in Victoria but Melbourne is foodie capital of Australia where your culinary tastes are appeased with variety of food & gourmet dishes.

COME AND TALK TO ME! It is an eerie staccato voice. The voice of cigarette advertisements, fierce sun, a two-bit bar with dead flies on the floor. They turn round to see they are standing outside a pinball arcade. CASINO! The Yankee growling voice comes from a silver and chrome machine. On its screen a square muscled man jumps up and down in a computerized urban landscape of skyscrapers and highways. Hands in raincoat pocket, jaw jerking to one side, he drawls again, COME AND TALK TO ME.          Gregory nudges J.K.’s arm. ‘Well, listen to the man, let’s take up his invitation.’ He puts ten francs in the slot.
HOW YA DOING? says the man TYPE SOMETHING INTO THE KEYBOARD AND I WILL RESPOND. The screen shirs as the urban cowboy crosses his arms and leans towards them.         ‘It’s in English.’         ‘Well, tell him how you are.’         Gregory turns to face the man. He puts another ten francs into the machine and spreads out his fingers. Pink and blue bulbs flash above him.
Do your lips burn up when we kissed right? Let me kiss ‘em again baby. Let me let me let me. I would like to fuck you. I would like to make you happy. How do you like to be touched? On the aeroplane over here, the air hostess demonstrated various ways of surviving an aircrash. She said we must blow on a whistle to draw attention to ourselves. Dont you think that is a little narcissistic? If everyone in the everyday of their lives who wanted to draw attention to themselves blew a whistle where would we be? What do you do to make people love you? I do cheap things to make people like me. I make them feel more important than they are and flatter them and when someone makes me a great cocktail I take a sip and shout DRAGONFLIES! In England I light my cigarettes with matches made in Yugoslavia. The picture on the box is of ‘Scenic Cornwall’ and shows a number of signposts on the edge of a cliff. One of them says THE FALKLANDS 8109 and the other says AUSTRALIA 170001. I tell you this because when I was a boy I collected stamps. It was my way of naming places and conquering the world. A stamp is a small picture. So I had lots of small pictures of the world. Madagascar, China, Mexico, Argentina, Egypt. A kind of virtual reality.
What’s your name my sweet? Is it Johnny or Sam or Brett? I’d like to go down on you and for you to talk to me about football and religion and hamburgers and beauty and death and what it feels like to come. Were you bullied at school? When you were a teenager did you spend hours in your bedroom changing your clothes? Did you save up to the boots and shirts other kids had? What kind of Darwinian programmed you? Do you want to change yourself in anyway? Like speak in a deeper voice or have a different nose? Do you feel safe in this world? Or do you feel alone and scared? What kind of gadgets do you have in your home? Do they comfort you? Baby do you sometimes feel glum? Baby take care of yourself. Oh baby I’d like to stroke you and whisper things to make you not have fear.
Honey, I want to tell you about a train I took to Kiev with my bit of a squeeze. We made love just as we got near Chernobyl and the loudspeakers in our carriage played a kind of lament to mark the tragedy of the nuclear accident. In some way it seemed to mark all tragedy ever. The cries of our lovemaking as we passed the infected cattle, children with shaved heads playing by the railway tracks and the eerie stillness of deformed trees were the only sound, snow falling, he and I sweating in each others arms and honey we were, in that moment, without fear. The high-rise blocks of flats we stayed in were called The Sleeping Region. I was brought up in a block like that in London. As a kid we lived on tins of beans and meatballs and hated to sleep because we were frightened. Darling, do you sleep sweet and easy and deep? Does someone sleep beside you? Breathing into the pillow next to you and you wake up first and feel them there and its just so great that they’re there and you know very soon they will wake too and you will move closer and kind of pull in the beginning of a new day together? In Kiev I opened tins of crab meat and caviar bought with hard currency and we slept easy. We slept easy and there was a famine outside. The circus played every night in Kiev -- an old man sitting next to me made a joke about eating the cats and horses after the show. Are you happy with your life, my sweet? The man said ‘You can always tell a tourist, their eyes don’t know where they’re going. Here everyone knows where they’re going.’ Do you know where you’re going baby? Is it a good place? Something to write home about? Is home a good place? Or just somewhere to return to?
Are you pleased to open your eyes in the morning? What do you see? Do you like what you see? If you hate it do you feel you have any power to change it for something else? Oh my love, let me call you that -- My Love -- let us imagine what that means, you and I liplocked some place in the American South, perhaps where the Klan lynched our brothers? You and I in a motor on the high way making plans for the future. The radio is on and we hear the Soviet Union has come apart and then there are some ads for Pepsi and bagel chips, and back to a war in Yugoslavia, nationalisms, the internationalisms, an election in Great Britain, refugees crossing mountains looking for a country to feed them, a jingle for vitamin capsules; and all the time we are hot for each other through all this world news we just want to be in each others pants, and we pull in for gas and I’m saying, No baby don’t light a cigarette, right now, wait till we pull out and anyhow we’ll check into a motel soon. Hey Brett, Im Imagining America! It’s all from movies and magazines, I am fumbling to make you America. I am fumbling to make you and unmake you. Abe Lincoln on your dollar bills -- IN GOD WE TRUST -- pastrami and gas and tacos and beer bought with this image, he’s the guy that keeps the wheels turning. I’m stuffing chocolate into your mouth and baby ... you’re so hard, so hard honey ... you’re all fired up and I’m talkin’ dirty, Im talking physical, Im talking politics and dontcha just love it, got my fingers in your mouth and you want it bad. I want you too baby I want you too. Y’know that Springsteen song ... oh baby I’d drive all night again just to buy you a pair of shoes? Well I would. I’d drive to hell and back just to make you love me.
How do you love? Do you keep it quiet and put it all in your fingertips or do you say words? What are your lovewords baby? What if the United States came apart? Would God come apart too and the stone pillars of the Abe Lincoln Memorial crumble and statues of George Washington be torn up from squares of green, watered by sprinklers? Torn up by crane and bulldozer?
Now I am imagining Switzerland, Brett. I can see snow and stripped pine floors and coffee shops and cream cakes and blond people tinkling little silver spoons against their cups. I see children in nursery schools that are heated, very warm and very clean and their little snow boots lined up against the wall and gloves sewn into their coat pockets. I cant imagine you there, Brett. I am trying to see a teacher bent over your shoulder while you draw your mother and father and the house you live in and giant flowers -- but I just cant vision you in in Switzerland skiing and eating chocolate. You’d probably shoot up in your chalet, lie down in your shorts under the skylight, arms folded behind your neck looking up at the stars and dreaming of home and bourbon and cookies and having a haircut. You see how I am making you up, same as Switzerland and America? Does it feel like it fits you? Have you made me up too? Am I some kind of English faggot crazy for boys, cruising into my adult life in black leather under strobe and sonic boom of city discos? There’s such a lot to talk about baby, just you and me, man to man.
Did you hear about the man who went to a psychologist and said, Doctor I think I am a dog, and the doctor said, we’ll sort that out, now get on the couch. And the man said, but I am not allowed. Well I’m inviting you to be whatever you like sweetheart, Im listening to you, I am listening to everything you want to be and were not allowed. Brett, I am saying make yourself up for me baby, have as many goes as you like, be the man you always wanted to be, and I’ll be the man that lets you. Brett, life is long dontcha think? When you tot up the hours and days and months, its a lot of time. How much of that time have you felt precious? I want to make you feel precious, my treasure, my lovestuff.
Have you ever driven across a city you don’t know very well and you’re alone? Its night and you’re lost. Had too many beers in some bar where they look at you as if you’re an extraterrestrial immigrant and somewhere else in, in another city, there’s someone who loves you and you can imagine them looking at you in this bar now, checking you out, what shoes you’ve put on today and what you’re drinking and what kind of mood you’re in? And you want to say to the people in this bar who think you’re some kind of weirdo blown in to undo them -- I am connected to the same things as you y’know -- I have people who love me and I watch TV and I have a birthday and I brush my teeth and I am not always like this, eating crap pizza alone and lost with this look in my eyes. And then you get into the car and none of the street signs make sense, and you just cry. Brett, have you done this? And you think of all the people you’ve jilted meanly and all the people who dumped you, and your pockets are filled with old bills and tickets and you turn over all the secrets inside you?
SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED SOME HELP! The handsome urban cowboy uncrosses his thick arms and takes out a gun. Suddenly he jumps on a moving car, shoots, jumps off the car and thrashes a man across the head with his gun, runs, leaps over a motorcycle, climbs a skyscraper, kicks the man chasing him off the building, holds on with one hand -- a loop of shooting and dying and dying and shooting and dying and shooting and shooting and dying and then the voice says ... COME AND TALK TO ME.....
