Yesterday, I Learned...
That the Nazis attempted to design a plane capable of reaching the United States (specifically, New York City) from Germany. The project, called Amerikabomber, resulted in five prototypes, but no operational aircraft. The plane would have needed to be able to make the 7,200 mile round trip without refueling. In addition to New York City, the Nazis had twelve other targets in mind, including Laā¦

Google Warns Edge Users Who Install Extensions From Its Web Store
Microsoft has started rolling the new Edge browser out to users, leaving the old EdgeHTML engine in the past. The new Edge uses a Chromium base just like Google Chrome, and that means it can run many existing Chrome extensions. Attempting to use Googleās Web Store could be a little unsettling, though. Google has added a warning to Edge users that they should really be using Chrome.Ā
The original Edge launched with Windows 10, and it never gained traction with users. Microsoft tried repeatedly to get Windows users to launch Edge, often resorting to scare tactics and annoying popups. Well, now the shoe is on the other foot.Ā
Edge now has the ability to install extensions from third-party sources. Microsoft has its own extension repository, but itās much smaller than the Chrome Web Store. However, if you go to the Web Store with Edge, you get a small pop-up (see below) that tells you switching to Chrome is the best way to āuse extensions securely.ā
Google has not explained why this is a security issue, but it might have something with the possibility of malicious code appearing in an extension. In Chrome, extensions are always updated automatically to the latest versions. Google can also remotely nuke an extension that tries to do something inappropriate. It canāt do that with Edge as the Web Store is a third-party download source.Ā
Googleās vague warning doesnāt explain why Edge is a problem in this scenario.
You can dismiss the warning and continue installing extensions in Edge ā Google isnāt stopping you from doing anything. Itās a bit like Microsoftās scary pop-ups in Windows 10 a while back that said Chrome was worse for your battery. Although, this isnāt a completely new tactic for Google, either. It has occasionally āwarnedā users of other browsers using its products that Chrome is better at running those services.Ā
Interestingly, both Opera and Brave use Chromium these days, and thereās no warning for those users when visiting the Google Web Store. Microsoft is simply a much bigger player, having rolled Edge out to most Windows 10 devices. Thatās suddenly a lot of people using a non-Google browser to install Chrome extensions that might be a large attack surface. Still, Microsoft doesnāt allow third-party extension installs by default. Youāll have to turn that on first.

The Amant Chronicles Launches Author M.J. Brunnabend First Series of Four Space Opera Science Fiction Novels, Available on Amazon Throughout The Known Universe
https://authoritypresswire.com/?p=26457 Volume 2, Dark Secrets, will be published and available for readers to enjoy within a few weeks.About The BookDo you enjoy a thrilling science fiction novel; a roller-coaster ride of mystery and intrigue with a smattering of romance? The Amant Chronicles has all this and more, with two strong female lead characters, aliens and action ranging from fistfights to firefights, and a continually twisting, building plot line. Each novel comprises two separate but interconnected storylines joined by lineage. The main story follows Amant Ducet, a half-alien, half-human hybrid, over 250 years in the future. As a wealthy, well-educated woman, she translates between the Qyron, an advanced telepathic alien race, and us humans. Her job demands frequent travelling between planets while meeting with heads of state and pillars of industry. But a chance meeting with an old friend, John, starts her down a long and winding journey full of action and mystery. The second story in Jenniferās Legacy (Volume 1), focuses on Jennifer Winston in our very near future. Sheās a young, naive country girl from Montana. But after her violent abduction by the Qyron, she finds her quiet country life transformed into a fast-paced lifestyle of rubbing elbows with the President, dodging dangerous situations, and being guarded by Secret Service agents. Jenniferās tumultuous story lays the foundation for the entire series and ends in the first volume. In Dark Dreams, Volume 2 of The Amant Chronicles, Amant has finally uncovered the answer to what is on F Deck of the ship, but this only creates more questions as the mystery deepens. Add to the aggravation, the increasing tensions surrounding Brad and Amant retreats her to Psy Logs. Jenniferās granddaughter Zaborah, is now her focus. As the first natural born Qyron-Human, Zaborah faces unique challenges and Amant uncovers a very dark secret not just with Zaborah, but about herself...Additionally, two more volumes are planned for The Amant Chronicles, to be published in 2019 and 2020.āI find it so liberating and enjoyable to create action packed stories that touch on current social issues. I can happily get up at 6am every morning and jump into my writing. Best of all, is hearing the readers share their excitement after reading my novels.āBrunnabend reveals his plans for future books āI am striving to make writing my sole job, because I have so many stories to share, so many tales to tell and I only get them out if I have the time. The brief writing of short stories gave me added interest and ideas on other novels. I have two more stand alone novels to finish up and three more that are aching to be told. I look forward to writing them all and more. And of course, I welcome you along with me on this journey of storytelling.āAmazon Reader ReviewsāReally enjoyed the book - fun space opera and book within a book. Never felt lost, was able to follow the characters along their different journeys and enjoyed the alien intrigue.ā - JMLenāThe Characters were really well developed. Excellent writing! Field Trip Tuesday
We went to the National Museum of the United States Air Force on Tuesday, for a quick look around. We found out theyāve expanded some of the exhibit galleries ā the Cold War is now itās own building ā and that they do guided tours. Weāre planning on going back to take those in. The mission Tuesday was primarily to hit the gift shop, because I was after a copy of Nuclear Weapons of the Unitedā¦

Boop, I'm A Submarine!
Well, Iām reading about them. And planes, because Iām trying to develop a timeline of nuclear weapons based on yield and speed of delivery system. Iām also reading a lot of comics. I love my library apps.

Math Accomplished!
I finished my calculations for the scale models of nuclear blasts, so now Iām going to be working on setting those scale measurements against Soldier Field. Iāve also figured out scale measurements for the atmosphere. Iām expecting this part will be easier, since itās going to be less math and more map reading and such. I also started taking notes on The Zone again. The book is still awful, butā¦

So Many Numbers!
Still working on figures for the nuclear blast scale model project. I went through and took down the measurements I got from NukeMap, then converted those to 1:120 scale (wherein 1 inch equals 10 feet). Now, Iām converting inches to feet which is a lot of dividing by 12. For the area measurements, Iām using a calculator app that converts square inches to square feet because I am not as confidentā¦

Moderate Success!
I still havenāt tracked down exact measurements for the stadium at Soldier Field, but I have found figures that are close enough for my purposes, thanks to CalcMaps ā Maptools. Using their distance tool, I was able to put points on a satellite photo of the stadium itself and get a rough estimate for length and width. Itās honestly shocking to me how hard it is to find out what Iād thought wouldā¦

Checked Out
Good news: my colonoscopy came back negative! This means I donāt have to have another one for ten years ā hopefully by 2033 medical science will have advanced enough to create a colonoscopy prep solution that doesnāt taste like sadness and misery. Or, barring that, at least comes in a smaller portion. Otherwise, I have been playing around with numbers and vaguely working on my scale model ofā¦

Not Doing Nothin' Today
Except prepping for a colonoscopy. Which leads to the question of the day: why the hell does the prep stuff have to taste so damnably foul? I mean, is there a medical reason for it or what?! So far, other than having to choke down the first round of the Awful Stuff ā and not looking forward to Round Two in the wee hours ā the prep hasnāt been so bad. More Adventures with Stupider Big Numbers
More Adventures with Stupider BigĀ Numbers
Iāve been continue playing with ridiculously large numbers, particularly as relates to explosive yield. I made a spreadsheet to relate explosive yields in terms of tons of TNT equivalent versus how many pounds of TNT that yield would represent (i.e. 1 ton of TNT equivalent equals 2,000 pounds of TNT, 1 kiloton is 2 million pounds of TNT, 1 megaton is 2 billion pounds of TNT, and so on). And,ā¦

Adventures in Stupid Big Numbers
Adventures in Stupid BigĀ Numbers
As I mentioned in my Goals Post back on Monday, Iāve been working on a way to create scale comparisons of nuclear blast yields. Iād already created a couple spreadsheets full of figures for yields between 1 ton and 100 megatons for surface blasts and airblasts and Iād even created a scale where 1 foot = 30 feet but that led to a model that was too large. Especially since Iād wanted to compare theā¦

It's The Final Blog Post...of 2022
Itās The Final Blog Postā¦of 2022
Iāve been spending the last couple days watching old episodes of Columbo, because I have a major soft spot for the bumbling detective. Watching him take down elitist creeps is just soothing ā also, itās fun to check early 1970s prices against an inflation calculator. I also started watching a British series called New Tricks, which features retired officers being brought in to rework cold cases.ā¦

Stuff I Found Out...
Stuff I Found Outā¦
I did some reading about the history of the survivalist movement, since thatās cromulent to my interests.Ā Ā I thought that survivalism had itsĀ roots in civil defense preparations for nuclear war. Turns out, it originally sprang from fears of economic collapse in the 1960s and especially in the 1970s. Nuclear war became a concern in the 1980s, due in part to increased tensions between the US andā¦
