Maybe the reason the Overlord put so many anti-Zane villains on the Crystal Council (Aspheera, the Mechanic, Mr. E) was bc he didnt want to take any chances of facing him in combat again. Like sure, Lloyd defeated him, but it only took like a year for him to come back. But when Zane defeats him, it takes him 12 whole seasons to regain full power again. The Overlord saw that Zane managed to rebuild himself within mere weeks after their fight and went "hell no im not fucking with that guy twice" - and then proceeded to stack up his team with as many Zane villains as he could find

wait is Nya wearing Vengsone in your design???
yep! i never really liked how ninjago tackled her ressurection so i made up my own headcanon for the whole thing
i can't really explain it fully without making the post too wordy
so long story short: she can still turn into the sea dragon form but she needs the vengestone to supress her powers from going haywire!
my idea of vengestone is quite different so she just needs a simple accessory with it to supress her element to be able to use her powers for combat but enough to stop her from going full feral
Tumblr media
she can take it off if she needs her powers to be at full but she has to really be watchful (so do the others around her) to ensure she doesn't forget herself
just saying, i think that her sacrifice should have costed a whole lot more and bringing her back would take more than like.... 5 episodes right after
Tumblr media
does that make sense?

something that i think about a lot is that nyad and nya both merged with the sea - not separate parts of the sea, the whole sea, together.
so, when the ninja froze nya in order to de-merge her in crystallised, how would they know that the being they were trying to resurrect was nya? how would they know if a few drops of saltwater belonging to nyad weren’t clinging to nya’s form, and weren’t brought back with nya? how would they know that the being they were seeing was nya, wholly and truly nya, with no influence of the woman who also inhabited the ocean?
no, there’s no way they could’ve known.
and so there’s a chance they could’ve brought back both spirits. nyad and nya controlled the same body (of water) at the same time; why would that change when they got brought back?
when the water of nya’s body returns to flesh, when the staff has absorbed her power, jay runs over to his yang. he looks into the eyes he’s only been able to see in his dreams for a year, and they’re unfamiliar. they’re a mix of nya’s normal grey and a blue too vivid to seem human - a mix of nya and nyad, the two spirits who sacrificed their lives and shared the body of the ocean, and who will continue to bear the sacrifice by sharing their human body instead.

Imagine instead of Nya remembering who she was a year after becoming the ocean, she remembered years or decades after.
Then she goes to the ninja, who are much older, gets turned back, and once she's turned back, she's the same age as she was when she turned into the ocean, and has to watch the majority of her family, especially Kai & Jay (and excluding Zane, Lloyd, & PIXAL), grow old and die.

AAAA kinda old art (that's a lie i made it like three weeks ago) but I wanted to talk more about the supporting characters of the High Tide AU! Those being. Misako, Maya, and Ray (I had no idea what to do with Wu so i've. set him aside for now)
This isn't going to be anything super in-depth. Just a little . idk. recap?
Misako and Maya become very close (that's. platonic) in the weeks following Nya's sacrifice. They already knew each other to an extent, but after she and Ray went missing, Maya never had the chance to get to know Misako as a true friend. But now she does! And they're like besties! The two bond over their shared experiences of motherhood and Misako uses knowledge gained from years of love and loss to help Maya through the grieving process.
Maya and Ray stay at the monastery for a few months after Nya's sacrifice to support Kai. Ray didn't know Nya the way Kai did, so they often reminisce on what she was like when they're together as a way to reconnect. Kai really struggles with feeling overly-responsible for the other ninja as they navigate their way through grief together; he feels as if it's down to him to do everything in his power to prevent his friends from suffering the same fate as his sister, but is quick to lose himself in the process. Being able to retell these memories with his father allows Kai to process his grief, and strengthen his relationship with the rest of his family too.
I'm doing my best to be as angst-free as possible with this AU and I hope it's paying off <\3 I don't want this to be the most devastating story ever, I just want to rewrite the scenario of Nya's sacrifice in a way that brings the ninja together instead of tearing them apart.

Ever since Crystalized came out, there's been this theory circulating that the reason the Overlord somehow managed to manifest crystal power seemingly out of nowhere and with no explanation (at least, none that I can find/remember), is because his fight with Zane affected his power in some way.
The main evidence for this is that:
Zane was the last person to fight the Overlord
Ice is technically a crystalline structure, depending on how it's formed, and Zane is the master of ice
When Harumi was first resurrected, she found the Overlord's spirit imbued into a purple crystal
As evidenced by past seasons, the Overlord's power seems to be influenced by his circumstances and environment in the wake of his last defeat. During Rebooted, a tech center was built over his resting place, and he ended up taking on the abilities and limitations of a computer virus. And in this case, the theory suggests that the Overlord's power was then influenced again by all the ice surrounding him as Zane destroyed both of their physical forms.
This does, to some extent, seem to fall in line with everything else we know about the Overlord. The Overlord is a being of shadow and darkness, and the shape of a shadow will always be influenced by the light around it. (And if we want to get into the theory that the Overlord was created as a result of the FSM trying to purge the oni blood from his veins, then you could even bring up the fact that the oni are shapeshifters sooo).
Now, I'll be the first to admit that this theory is ultimately pretty circumstantial, and there's nothing in canon to point to it being explicitly true. BUT, the cool thing about this theory is that it does also retroactively solve another big fandom mystery: that is, it explains how Zane survived his fight with the Overlord.
Let me explain.
When Zane came back to life after his fight with the Digital Overlord, while it was never outright explained how he did so, it was implied that he came back the same way the Overlord had: by spiritually manifesting within the systems at Borg Tower - specifically, the Digiverse. But that doesn't really answer the question, does it?
Like, the Overlord coming back as a spiritual manifestation makes sense. He's a regenerative being, an immortal abstraction of all the evil in the world. And Zane, as far as we know, is very much not that. So what could have happened to cause Zane, a nindroid, to end up being resurrected in the same way as the god of darkness? Why did he come back to life, instead of passing onto the afterlife? Even Lloyd, the special-est boy in all Ninjago, made a quick visit to the Departed Realm and only came back because the FSM said he could.
And true, it's certainly possible that Zane had a similar encounter with the FSM. Or that his power source is responsible for his resurrection, and just as we may never know how his power source works he may also never know how it brought him back to life. Those are all very possible solutions, and you're welcome to just accept those ideas and move one.
But if you're like me and you don't find those answers particularly satisfying, here's another possibility:
Just as Zane's power has influenced the Overlord, the Overlord's power has influenced Zane. In the explosion of Golden Power that caused both of them to be destroyed in unison, their souls became intertwined. So yes, Zane was meant to die. And judging by his account of the situation in Decoded, he did die. And maybe a peaceful afterlife was well within arm's reach, maybe he was just about to grab the FSM's hand...but then something pulled him back. His soul, chained to the Overlord's dark power, dragged him to the land of the living once more.
And if you really want to get into it, then you could even theorize that this connection ended up influencing Zane's power as well. During the Ice Chapter he was capable of turning people into ice samurai zombie-things kept under his control, as well as creating ice constructs like Boreal. These are not abilities that have been established in the ice power-set, nor are they logical powers for an ice elemental to have. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but the Forbidden Scroll doesn't give you new powers, it just enhances and turbo-boosts what you already have. Which is why it did nothing when Kai held it, as his power had been stolen from him at the time.
(Now before you ask why Pixal could use the Scroll despite seeminlgy not having any powers, there are very subtle implications that she had developed a very, very minor sixth sense due to her inheriting some of Zane's power. If anyone wants me to explain that in greater detail, I'd be more than happy to.)
And yes, Aspheera is also capable of creating elemental zombie/mummy things and other such constructs, but she did all that before she found the Scroll. This is a power-set she had by virtue of her being a powerful sorcerer, not something granted by wielding the Scroll.
And yet somehow, the Scroll did seem to give Zane these powers. Powers that so far have only been exhibited by two people in the series: Aspheera, and the Overlord. So if we submit to the theory that Zane and the Overlord's fight have caused their powers to mix a little, and the Scroll magnifies your power....well, it suddenly becomes very possible that the Scroll amplified some of the dark energy he inherited from the Overlord and awakened some of the Ice Emperor's more unique abilities.
And if that's true, then that really just kinda makes the whole Ice Emperor sting that much more. All of the good things Zane has done, all of his biggest sacrifices, all led to this moment. To him becoming the Ice Emperor.
I dunno. It's just something to think about.

reason crystalized sucks #a billion
it's weird that the actual language when the Overlord reveals his corruption of the devourer centers around its biting Garmadon, because that is not something that should alter Harumi's worldview. She likes evil garm, she resurrected him, if anything that would make her like the Overlord more. It's the fact that the devourer was corrupted during the s1 attack that's relevant, and while that is implied in the scene, it's crazy that it's not outright stated.

Okay this post is gonna get kinda personal but:
The benefit of grief is genuinely my favorite episode, and I just don't understand how people don't like it or forget about it because it hit so hard for me. I can kind of understand the complaint about how Zane dealt with his feelings overall during s15, or rather the lack of him dealing, since it could come off as him being tacked as the emotionless robot again, but for me I can't find it in myself to say it was a bad way to write him grieving, because thats how I used to be. When I was dealing with my own shit a while back. I just shut down, barely felt anything. It was so fucking validating to see Zane go through the same process during this episode of learning to let himself feel things again even though it could hurt.
So while, yeah, it could be taken as the emotionless robot trope, in my eyes it was one of the most human things Zane has ever done.
