Running the flower store is a nice break. Danny’s got to do a bit more math than expected–no, Mr. Lancer, that doesn’t mean percentages were useful–but Harleen didn’t lie about the job. He sells the odd book, waters the plants, and moves the bouquets in and out of the flower fridge.
On the second day, someone comes whirling into the shop, slamming the door behind him.
“Hi, can I help you?” Danny has on his best customer service face.
The guy spins around and does a double-take like he wasn’t expecting to see Danny. “Who are you?”
“I work here. Are you looking for a book or flowers?”
The guy has dark hair, almost black with a hint of brown in the sun and blue eyes. He’s bulky enough that he likely works out. Laugh lines are starting at the corner of his eyes. “Where’s Harleen?”
“She’s on vacation for a few days. I’m watching the store for her in her absence.” Danny can’t help but tense, keeping a sharp eye on the stranger. What if he intends to rob the store? Danny’s got his taser, but that won’t help from behind a counter. Subtly, he reaches for intangibility, keeping it ready on a moment’s notice. He’s not about to get shot–again.
“I’m Dick,” the guy says. “Sorry about the interrogation. It’s just…Harleen never takes a vacation. She must trust you to watch the shop.”
Danny shrugs because he really has no connection with the girl. “It’s just a job. Can I help you with anything else?” He’d really prefer Dick finish his maybe-or-maybe not legitimate business and leave.
“Right!” Dick swings back to look at the rest of the store. “I am going to see my friend later, it can’t hurt to bring some flowers. Got a suggestion?”
Normally, Danny would join the customers as they look at flowers, offering what suggestions he can. Now, he stays firmly behind the till. “The daisies are a nice pop of color. We have a few bouquets of dry flowers if you want something that lasts longer.”
Dick hums and considers the flowers. “Maybe the daisies.”
Danny rings him up, still keeping an eye on Dick. “I’ll let Harleen know you dropped by looking for her.”
“I’d appreciate it. Do you know when she’ll be back?”
He does, but there’s no way he’s telling. Who knows why Dick wants to know–if that’s even his name? “She’ll be back soon.” He defaults to his blandest smile.
Dick wilts slightly under it, pulling the daisies toward him. “Okay, thanks. See you later.”
Not if Danny can help it. Maybe he should stay late tonight, just to make sure the guy doesn’t come back and try to break in. Explaining how he fended off a burglary might be a little difficult, but Harleen doesn’t deserve to have her shop trashed. And if she’s a friend of Pam’s, then she can be an acquaintance–friend?–of Danny’s.
Harleen laughs so hard she’s wheezing when Danny warns her about “Dick” and his off-vibes.
“I’m guessing you know him,” he says, giving her a scowl. He’s been practicing his scowls. Batman’s famous for them.
“Do I ever!” Harleen cackles, half lying across her counter. Finally, she hauls herself up with a grin. “No wonder Pam likes you.”
“Couldn’t let this place get robbed.”
“You did good, Dan, don’t worry. I appreciate you watchin out for the store.” She glances around at the plants and books with a soft smile. “This place is my baby. It’s nice to just have a…normal job. I’m laughin because Dicky is probably the most harmless person to come into this store and you clocked him as a robber.”
Danny sniffs and looks away. He’s learned to listen to his instincts and his instincts said that guy was Trouble with a capital T. Maybe it’s the kind of trouble Harleen likes, but he’s not about to get mixed up in it.

part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5 part 6 part 7 part 8 part 9
“Shield Industries, this is Wanda,” Wanda introduces as she answers the receptionist's phone. Upon hearing the voice, Wanda furrows her brows. “Sure, can I ask who’s calling?” The person responds with their name. “Just a second.” Wanda turns to hit a button on the phone.
Suddenly, your phone begins to ring. “Y/N L/N,” you state, picking up the call. You laugh, hearing that it was your current almost girlfriend. “What, how did you get this number?” You mock with a grin. “Stalker,” you shake your head.
Wanda’s not sure how she feels as she watches the happy expression on your face from her desk. You seem content with Valkyrie, but something about her just made Wanda feel uneasy. She’s come to the conclusion that she’s probably just protective of you, since you’ve always been her best friend, and since knowing you she had never really seen you in any serious relationships. She simply cared for you, a lot.
“So we’re still on for lunch?” you ask Valkyrie. “Are you meeting me here? Okay. Great. See you later. Bye,” you finish with a smile, hanging up.
You were about to get back to work when Wanda calls out to you from across the room. “Hey,” she says, causing you to turn your head towards her, and gives you a small smile. “You can just give her your extension.”
“Sure,” you nod, before returning to the papers on your desk.
Wanda frowns.
***
There was a deafening loud sound reverberating through the entire office. The smoke detector, of course.
You sigh. You just wanted to get through the day uninterrupted, not including the lunch you had planned with Valkyrie. And, of course, spending as much time as you could with Wanda. Just one normal day, please.
And right on time, Sam begins to shout. “Okay, people, this is not at test! Everybody make your way to the exits!” He calls out.
“Do not panic!” Tony yells alongside him. “Everyone, just get up from your desks, arms at your side!”
“This is not a drill, move quickly, everyone, this is a paper company, come on!” Sam screams at the top of his lungs, rather dramatically. If you weren’t at a risk for being set on fire, you would’ve had a witty sarcastic remark ready on the tip of your tongue for him. “This whole place is a tinder box, it’s ready to blow!”
You’re making your way out the exits, when suddenly Wanda immediately runs towards you and meets the rhythm of your stride, holding your hand.
You give her a confused look. “Nat says we should have safety partners,” she responds with a shrug.
“I didn’t hear that–” you begin to say.
“Clear out, stat!” Sam interrupts, sprinting past the two of you and clearly out of breath after screaming out fire safety laws for the past 10 minutes.
Forgetting your previous statement, you turn to the brunette beside you once you’ve both made it safely to the parking lot outside. “Please tell me we can prank Sam after this,” you tell Wanda, bringing out a huge grin on her face.
“Oh, for sure,” she responds immediately. “In fact, I’m drafting up about 5 plans right now in my mind.”
You laugh. “Of course you are, Maximoff.” Wanda squeezes your hand in return.
***
“Okay, you know what?” you call out to the people around you. It had been ten minutes, and you were thoroughly bored of standing around. “I think Wanda and I are gonna set an agenda around here.”
Wanda nods with a grin.
Clapping your hands together lightly, you call towards the rest of the office staff. “Can everybody gather up, please? Important announcement.” You say. “I think this is a perfect opportunity for all of us to participate in some really intense,” you pause, “psychologically revealing conversations.”
You give Wanda a look to finish the rest of your announcement. “So,” she turns to face the crowd. “We’re gonna be playing Desert Island…”
“”Who Would You Do?” you continue, making Wanda snicker.
“And, “Would You Rather?”” Wanda finishes.
“Would You Rather,” you agree.
You’re about to start the first game, when suddenly, the fire trucks pull in and the firefighters run through the office crowd to get into the building.
“What’s up, guys, long time no see,” you greet slightly, making Wanda smack you playfully on the arm. “What?” you laugh.
She rolls her eyes in response. “You’re a dork.”
You stick your tongue out at her in return, and turn back to the crowd once all the firefighters have made their way through.
“Okay, so, first, three books on a desert island,” you look around, trying to pick the first person to go. “Nat,” you point.
Nat squints her eyes suspiciously at the interaction in front of her first, before answering. “The Hunger Games, and a Russian dictionary, to make sure I’m not out of practice.”
“Okay, you have one more book though,” you say.
“Rather not,” Nat responds.
“Okay,” you say with a shrug, and turning towards your best friend. “Wanda, next person?”
Wanda nods, looking around to pick the right person. “Peter!” she says.
“Oh,” Peter responds shyly, rubbing the back of his neck. “Um, Death by Black Hole, Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos, and one of the scientific journals I read a while ago but I can’t remember the name.”
“Alright, that’s pretty cool,” you say.
“No, it’s not,” Sam retorts immediately. “If he burned them, he would only be warm for like seven seconds. Question, is there firewood on the island?”
“I guess,” you shrug.
Sam scoffs. “Then I would bring an axe. No books.”
“That’s actually pretty practical, Mr. Sam,” Peter squeaks out.
“Peter, you don’t need to agree with the guy,” you reassure. “I never do.”
Peter nods, shifting his weight on his feet instead.
You look at Sam once more. “You can’t bring an axe, Sam. Just books.”
Sam narrows his eyes at you. “Fine, then. Physician’s Desk Reference.”
“Nice. Smart.”
But unfortunately, Sam continues. “But hollowed out. Inside, waterproof matches, iodine tablets.” Wanda turns to you with an expression that tells you she’s trying not to laugh. You roll your eyes playfully in response. “Beet seeds, protein bars, NASA blanket, and, in case I get bored, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. No, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” Wanda finally can’t help herself and lets out a small snicker. “Question, did my shoes come off in the plane crash?”
***
Unfortunately, the books don’t last very long since it appears that people don’t read too much in the Shield Industries office. However, you’re definitely remembering Wanda’s answer for her next birthday.
“Okay, DVDs, five movies, what would you bring?” you ask the crowd.
Bruce immediately raises his hand.
“Yes, Bruce?”
Bruce starts naming all of his guilty pleasure movies, and you and Wanda look at each other while struggling not to laugh.
“Wow,” you whisper quietly to her as Bruce continues naming his choices.
“Well, I kind of like–” Wanda whispers one of the movies to you through her quiet giggles.
“Wanda, you’re misinterpreting this,” you tease gently. “These are desert island movies, you know? Not guilty pleasure movies. These are the movies you’re gonna be watching for the rest of your life! Forever!”
“I take it back,” Wanda grins, facing you.
“Unforgivable,” you shake your head.
“I take it back!” Wanda wraps her arms around yours.
***
“Wanda,” you turn to the brunette so she’s facing your front. “Your turn, five movies, go ahead.”
Wanda groans, looking at you with a hopeful expression on her face. “Does it have to be movies? What about sitcoms?” she asks excitedly.
You hum thoughtfully. “What do you guys think?” you turn to the rest of the staff.
“To be fair, I don’t think Maximoff has seen a single movie in her life, so for her, it should be allowed,” Nat says.
“Hey!” Wanda says, slightly offended. “I’ll have you know, when I first came here, Y/N took me to see a bunch of your classic American movies.”
“Oh, did she now?” Nat responds back sarcastically.
“Okay, come on, guys,” you say past the slight blush in your cheeks. “No need to be hostile. Wanda, go ahead and name your top sitcoms you’d bring to the island.”
Wanda immediately forgets about the interaction with Nat and starts naming her favorite shows. “Okay. The Dick Van Dyke Show, of course, I Love Lucy, Malcolm in the Middle, Bewitched, Family Ties…Wait, can I bring one more? I love–”
“Sorry, Maximoff,” you cut off with a grin, causing her to frown. “Five per person, max.”
“But-” she tries.
You shake your head. “Play by the rules, Wanda. Play by the rules.”
“I’m gonna get you back,” she says, narrowing her eyes and crossing her arms tightly.
“Don’t doubt it,” you respond cheekily. “But, I’ll get you a donut later to make up for it. How about that?”
Wanda nods, satisfied with your answer and moves to stand next to you once more.
***
“All right, moving on to the main event, Who Would You Do?” you announce.
“Present company excluded?” Bucky asks.
“Um, no,” you shake your head. “Not necessarily.”
Suddenly, a chorus of “Wanda” is heard from the entire crowd, and you look at the recipient seeing how uncomfortable she looks.
“Okay, um, how about I finish explaining the rules first? Let me explain first–” you try to ease Wanda’s embarrassment, but suddenly, you’re interrupted by something you could have never anticipated.
Well, who could ever anticipate Sam’s…colorful personality.
“Everybody Hurts” by REM has begun to blast from Sam’s car, and you look to see him slouching completely lifeless in his driver’s seat.
You try your best to continue past the music. “Yeah, so we’ll get right to— you know what? I’ll be right back. Steve, can you take over for me? Thanks.”
You run off in the direction of Sam’s car, ready to confront him with Wanda trailing beside you.
“Sam?” You ask through the open window. Sam simply turns up the music in response. “Sam! Come on, Sam, use words.”
Sam turns off the music aggressively. “Why didn’t I go to business school?” he asks angrily.
You furrow your brows in confusion. “Who goes to business school?” you ask, looking over at Wanda who shrugs at you in response.
“The intern,” Sam says venomously.
“Peter? He does?”
“Yeah,” Sam responds scornfully. “It’s all him and Tony talk about now. Tony saw a stupid yellow business school book in his car, swiped him from your game, and now Tony’s completely obsessed with him.”
Wanda looks at you before speaking, “you know, I bet Peter thinks to himself, “I wish I were a volunteer sheriff on the weekend.””
You bite your lip to hold back your laugh.
“He doesn’t even know that I do that,” Sam rolls his eyes.
“You should tell him,” Wanda says.
“Oh, yeah, Wanda. Right. That’s gonna help things, just talk it out,” he scoffs. “I hope the war goes on forever and Peter gets drafted.”
“Sam,” Wanda states gently.
“What?” you mouth to her through a smile.
She shakes her head at you with an equally amused grin.
Sam puts his head into his hands. “Fine, I’m sorry I said that. I didn’t— just part of me meant it, okay? Besides, he’d end up being a hero, anyway.”
You duck your head slightly to hold in the laugh that’s dying to come out. Wanda starts to smile too, looking away slightly to prevent being obvious.
“You know what you should do,” you say past your grin, an equally amused expression on Wanda’s face. “You should quit.” You cover your mouth with the top of your fist slightly to hide your smile. “And then,” you turn to face Wanda, “that would stick it to both of them.”
Wanda bites her lip tightly, trying her best to prevent from bursting out into laughter alongside you.
“No, Y/N, I’m not gonna quit,” Sam says completely monotone. “Then Peter wins.”
“Yeah, you’re right,” you agree, facing Wanda who’s eyes are sparkling with amusement.
Sam puts his hand on top of both yours and Wanda’s, giving you both a grateful expression. “Thanks, you guys. I just need some alone time.”
“Okay,” Wanda says softly, slowly backing away from the car.
“Everybody Hurts” starts blasting again from the speakers, and Sam rolls up the window, slouching once more.
You and Wanda slowly walk back to the group together, laughing loudly together as you finally release the pent-up hysterics you had both been trying to hold back.
“God, he makes it so easy,” you exclaim.
“I know,” Wanda grins. “But, we’re definitely still pranking him! I’m so looking forward to it, I have so many ideas I need to share with you. But, you know, after he gets over his breakup with Tony,” she starts giggling again.
“I can’t wait, Maximoff,” you start snickering loudly alongside her once more.
But suddenly, your moment is cut short, as the source of your unhappiness makes its way in front of you two, and you both stop laughing slightly.
“Hey, guys, what’s going on?” Vision asks, immediately slinging his heavy arm around Wanda’s shoulders.
“Nothing much,” you respond, shrugging as you put your hands in your pockets, feeling a bit out of place.
“Hi, Vis,” Wanda says with a smile.
“Can I hang with you guys for a bit?” Vision asks you both. “The warehouse guys can really be jackasses sometimes, you know?”
You included, you think to yourself.
But if he makes Wanda happy, then you’re happy.
***
Much to your secret dismay, you and Wanda have joined the group once more, along with her fiancé.
“Come on, guys, you know the rules of the game, it’s called “Who Would You Do?”” Steve says in a bit of a frustrated tone.
“Oh!” Tony claps his hands together. “Awesome, I play this game with my friends all the time. Where are we?”
“Um–” Steve says.
“Vision!” Tony points to the new company. “Who would you do?”
“Oh, I got it!” Vision responds, and Wanda smiles lightly to herself. “What’s the name of that girl who’s always wearing black and has a huge bitch face? The red head?”
Wanda’s face falls.
“My name’s Natasha,” Nat responds curtly, crossing her arms.
Vision leans down to face Nat. “Hey, Natasha! I’m Vision, nice to meet you.”
“You’re a dick,” Nat says simply, immediately leaving and making her way to her car.
Wanda looks down at her feet, feeling uncomfortable.
“Hey?” you whisper to Wanda.
Wanda hums in response.
“Look at Sam,” you tell her, pointing to the figure in the red car, now going back and forth between banging his forehead onto his steering wheel, occasionally letting out honks, and banging his head agains the roof of his car.
Wanda lets out a laugh, bringing her hand to her mouth in shock. She turns to look at you. “He’s gonna inflict brain damage or something.”
“Well, then he’ll have opened up a whole new world of pranks for us,” you shrug.
Wanda grins, her spirits lifted from before.
“Y/N!” Tony calls out. “You’re next. Who would you do?”
“Um,” you pause. “Steve, hands down. You know, he’s got that cuddly thing going on, and because he’s prehistoric we could just watch bowling after.”
The group laughs at your joke, Wanda included.
***
The people playing the games had slightly splintered since Sam had run out of his car in an effort to find Tony’s phone, inside the burning office building, and in his words, simply to make him happy. A couple people got bored, and a few others decided to wait by the door of the building just to make sure Sam got out safely.
Wanda was surrounded by a few of the female staff, who had decided to continue the game.
“Definitely Y/N,” a bunch of them said simultaneously. “She’s really cute, and funny.”
Wanda crossed her arms tightly across her body.
“What about you, Wanda?” Jean asked.
“Um,” Wanda looks around. “Probably Steve, too. For the same reasons as Y/N. He seems really nice.”
You’re on a phone call with Valkyrie, walking around the parking lot aimlessly. “Hey, where are you? Oh, good. Yeah, we’re just here, we’re playing Desert Island, five movies.”
***
Sam had finally reconciled with Tony, after finding out the culprit of the fire, was unfortunately Peter’s cheese quesadilla. The boy looked horrified, and you tried to give him a reassuring look in an unfortunate situation.
Suddenly, you were met with the sight of a silver car pulling into the parking lot, seeing it was Valkyrie through the windows.
You walked up with a smile as she parked, rolling down the window to strike up a conversation.
“Hey,” you greeted, smiling as you leant down to talk to her, her immediately grabbing your arm flirtatiously. “How are you?”
“I’m good,” she answered, planting a kiss on your cheek. “It’s good to see you.”
“It’s good to see you too,” you responded, smiling.
“I’m hungry,” she says, referring to your lunch plans.
“You know, I am too,” you agree.
“Oh!” Valkyrie realizes, stepping out of the car. “I have been thinking, the whole way over, and I have my answers,” she shuts the door to the car.
“What answers?” you ask.
“For the desert island,” she says, leaning back against the car door.
“Oh, right!” you say excitedly. “Come on.” You grab her hand and lead her over to the rest of the staff.
“Ladies and gentlemen, gather ‘round, we have one more participant,” you announce. “Be polite,” you say, before turning to Valkyrie. “Desert island, five movies, go.”
“Okay,” Valkyrie smirks. “First, Legally Blonde.”
And suddenly, you’re met with the sound of Wanda’s laughter, as that was the guilty pleasure movie Wanda had told Y/N she liked when Bruce had announced it, only for you to tease her in response.
Unfortunately, after Valkyrie has announced her movies, the crowd had mostly dissipated, and you turn to her apologetically. “Sorry, there was a bigger crowd last time, but you know, great movies,” you say, scratching the back of your neck slightly.
“Don’t worry,” Valkyrie says, grabbing your arm and running her hand up and down your sleeve. “Wanna just go to lunch?”
“Sure,” you agree. “Where are we going?”
“I’m in the mood for Thai, does that work?” Valkyrie responds, getting into the driver’s seat.
“Yeah, for sure,” you say, closing the door for her before making your way to the passenger’s seat.
And Wanda narrows her eyes, ‘cause she knows you absolutely hate Thai food.
Scoffing, she turns back to Vision, and grabs him by the collar before firmly connecting their lips.
You frown at the sight in front of you, and turn your head away.
“You okay?” Valkyrie asks, noticing your expression as you close the car door at your side.
“Hm?” you respond. “Oh, oh, yeah, I’m fine. Don’t worry.” You reassure, giving her a small smile past the ache in your heart.
“Okay,” Valkyrie agrees, giving you a small kiss on your cheek before driving off.

Since a few of you kindly asked for a Part 2, here you go! Thanks for the love!
Warnings - reader feels a bit insecure for a split second! Word Count - 2.6k
Part 1 | Part 2
You stare at him, cold blooded. So he did figure it out? You shut the door behind you and reach for the silk robe hanging on the back of the door.
“Aw come on don’t cover up because it’s me-”
“Eddie, what the fuck are you doing here?”
He makes a silly dance move, trying to be funny but definitely not helping. “What do you mean? I came for a private dance.”
You finish tying a bow and cross your arms. “How did you know I work here?”
He gets up and walks towards you. He moves your robe off to the side and points to your birthmark. “This. I noticed it while you were dancing.”
You sigh and look back up at him. He stifles a laugh, “Ed, this isn’t funny.”
“Why didn’t you tell me you were a fucking dancer?”
“Oh yeah, because that’s a great conversation starter-” You notice him looking you up and down. “Stop looking at me like that.”
“Like what?”
“Like I’m hot or…some shit.”
“Well, I mean-”
“Look, I get off at midnight. We can go back to my place to chat afterwards if you want. But for now, you can hang in the dressing room. We won’t be back there until we close up anyway.” You open up the door and motion for Eddie to leave.
“...does this mean I don’t get a private dance?” You give him a stern look this time, “yes ma’am.”
As you enter your front door Eddie goes and takes a seat on your couch as you head to your bedroom to change into more comfortable clothes. When you take a seat next to him just a few minutes later you explain everything to him.
You have been working at the strip club for over a year now. As much as you loved working at Family Video it just wasn’t paying enough. Bianca was a regular at FV with her family, and you grew a work-type friendship with her. One day she came in by herself and asked if you wanted to come to a charity event they were holding at the club. She immediately made it clear how odd it sounded about having a charity event at a strip club but assured you it was always a hit ; how the money went towards good causes in the city and the toy drives were always overflowing. You wanted to show your support so you went and had a fun time. Bianca introduced you to everyone, from her boss to her coworkers to regulars. It was a strange family-oriented work environment you never imagined. When Pam, the owner and boss, asked if you were interested at all in working for them you turned it down. But when bills started piling up and the holidays were around the corner you thought earning some extra cash would be helpful. So you went back, and was hired right from your interview.
Pam explained how the club was run by women for women only. Everyone took you through training, first just as a waitress. You learned tips and tricks, and also had to come up with a fake name for security and privacy.
“Wait, so what’s your ‘fake name’?” Eddie asks using quotation marks.
“Lilith.”
“Why Lilith?”
“It means ‘belonging to the night’. It’s also associated with meanings like ‘demon’ or ‘spirit.’”
“Well that’s badass. How did you come up with that?”
Look down at your lap. “Um, in one of your D&D books. The one you gave me about character building.”
“No shit.”
“Yeah…so anyway. I didn’t even think about dancing but Bianca asked me one day if I wanted to try it, so I did. Everyone thought I did a good job…I was on the next night and it just took off from there.”
“Why haven't you told anyone?”
“Because when Bianca asked me to come to the charity event I didn’t really know what to think about her being a stripper. I didn’t want to judge her, and I didn’t want people or colleagues to judge me. I really enjoy it. I have this new built confidence when I walk through those doors. We all really care for one another and root each other on.”
Eddie shifts himself closer to you. “What do you mean ‘new built confidence’?”
“Let me answer this with a question for you. How do you feel when you’re DM’ing at Hellfire?”
He shrugs. “I don’t know, like I’m taking charge. Assertive. I know what I’m doing and I like how I make people feel afterwards.”
You reach and put your hand on his leg. “That’s exactly how I feel when I’m dancing.” You smile, shake your head, laugh to yourself.
“What’s so funny?”
“It’s just hilarious that we both feel the same way about two completely different scenarios.”
“Hm, true.”
“Can I ask you a question though?”
“Sure, anything.”
“...What did you think…about the dance…on your birthday?” You gulp.
“Psh, don’t you remember the way I was talking about you when I came here the next morning?” You nod. “Everything I said was true. I couldn’t get you out of my head. And then when I figured out it was you I just…had to tell you I knew. Couldn’t live with that secret, it would have driven me nuts.”
“How did you ask for me anyway? You didn’t even know my name.”
“I asked for the devil from the night before. The women who led me to the private room recognized me from when I was called up for the dance.”
You pondered, “Was she dressed in all silver?”
“...yes?”
“That’s Jade. She gave me a bit of a pep-talk, I almost asked her to go out instead of me.”
Eddie looks at you muddled, “why didn’t you want to dance for me?”
“Because you're Eddie, you’re one of my closest friends and it just felt…I don't know, awkward.”
“Well, if I’m being honest your friend is very beautiful but,” he takes your chin and lines you up with his eyes, “I’m glad it was you.”
You smile, “I’m glad it was me too.”
You stare at him for a bit, melting into his touch and his eyes ; and when your lips touch just seconds later without even realizing how close you were, you feel like you died and went to heaven. It was when his tongue slipped its way into your mouth that that confidence you talked about earlier started to kick in. You kick yourself up and straddle his lap, bringing your hands to his shoulders to steady yourself but never breaking the kiss. His hands find your hips, rings digging deep into your shirt, bringing them along to the slow steady pace as he starts with his own hips grinding up. You follow his rhythm and hum, starting to feel way too good.
And even though that confidence was built up for a few moments, your insecurities came rushing through. You part and separate yourself too quickly and mumble “no” ; Eddie looks upset as you stand up. “What’s wrong? Did I take it too far, I’m sorry-”
“No no it’s not you it’s just..me. I’m sorry.”
“Do you want to tell me what’s wrong?”
You stutter, tears beginning to paint your cheeks. “It’s just-you never did any of this before. And-now you find out I strip and we’re suddenly making out on my couch. I feel like I’m in some stupid rom com where I took off my glasses and suddenly you see me differently.”
“Hun, I can promise you it’s nothing like that.”
“I don’t mean to sound rude Eddie but I think you should go.”
“But-”
“I just need space, if that makes sense? Can I call you tomorrow or sometime later this week?”
“Yeah of course, whatever you need. I know this is a lot for you.”
“Yeah-yeah it is.”
He walks over and kisses you on the top of your forehead before leaving.
“And that’s basically what happened.” You swirl around in an office chair, disappointed in yourself. You were a mess, you spent the whole next morning thinking about Eddie and what happened. Today is even your day off, but you felt like you needed company so you made your way to the club for some hopeful reassurance you weren't taking this too far or overthinking.
“I think it’s sweet he’s giving you space, he understands your concerns and he’s respecting it. You don’t see that a lot nowaday..” Your other co-worker and current security cam watcher Leah has been listening to your rants all day. She just came back from maternity leave but wasn’t ready to dance, so her shifts have been bartending and security watch, mainly the private rooms from the cameras. When you arrived at the club no private dances were happening, so Leah took you to the security room for privacy. “I’m kinda glad you came though, I want to show you something from the night he was here.” She holds up a VHS tape and puts it in the VCR. You watch with bated breath as Eddie shows up on screen.
“What does-”
She puts her hand up, “Just listen.” You watch the footage, as Eddie paces the private room waiting for you to arrive.
“Hey so, I’ve kind of liked you since high school and…no I can’t start with that.”
>>FF>>
“Finding out about dancing? That is just a perk that will come in the soon to be hopeful relationship…no that doesn’t sound right. Steve is a fucking idiot for coming up with that line.”
>>FF>>
“So…wanna go out on a date? Bowling, dinner? …What am I, 14?”
>>FF>>
“Alright Munson, you got this. Just tell her you figured it out and that this doesn’t change how you feel.” Then he plops down on the couch and lays back just as you found him.
Leah stops the tape and looks back to you.
“He…likes me?”
“Guess he does. So much for your negative thoughts huh?”
“I can’t believe this. He’s never shown any signs of…anything.”
“Pft, guys are weird. It took my husband years to ask me out on a first date but I waited! Here we are three years later with a new house and baby. It was all worth the wait, and I’m sure this will be for you too.”
“But how can I make this right? I feel like I screwed it all bigtime.”
“Why don’t you invite him to our charity event in a few weeks? It’s how your story started. Maybe it’ll be a new chapter for him too. Show him instead of talking to him to make things right.”
You smile wide, “...Has anyone told you you’re a genius?”
“And I thought Mom-Brain was getting to me already. But I’ll take the compliment.” You give Leah a hug and head out to make a very important phone call.
Eddie (of course) agreed to attend the charity event, and even offered to pay full price instead of the family and friends discount. You went in a few hours earlier to help set everything up while Eddie arrived when the event began. You introduced him to your co-workers ; some already knew about what happened but for your sake played it off like they knew nothing, which you greatly appreciated. Eddie took a seat at the bar, wishing you luck for your performance later which he was secretly looking forward to. Just before heading to the dressing room you stop by the DJ booth.
“Hey Cassie, here’s my tape for my dance. It’s Track 8, and I go on at 11.”
“Got it. Thanks love!” She looks at the cassette and ponders to herself, “huh, who’s Corroded Coffin?”
Your turn couldn’t come soon enough. Eddie was only two drinks in, constantly looking at the clock waiting for 11 to strike.
“You okay babe?” Leah, (or in tonight's case since she’s working, Carmella), comes over to check on him.
“Huh-yeah. Thanks.”
“Of course, she’ll be on in a few. Excited to watch her?”
“Ohyeah-yeah,totally.Can’t wait.” He takes a large sip of his drink.
“You’re nervous, aren’t you?”
“Can I be real with you for a second?”
“I’m a bartender, I’m here to lend an ear to your problems.” Leah leans in, “talk to me.”
“I’ve liked her forever, I’m just stupid and have never asked her out properly. And I don’t want her to think I’m asking her out now because of all this,” he motions his arms around the room.
“Well maybe she won’t think that.”
“But she does, I know she does. And I just feel like a fucking idiot.”
“Eddie, I can assure you by the end of the night you’re not going to feel that way.”
“How do you-” Just then the lights dim ; Eddie looks at the clock ; 11:00.
Cassie takes the microphone and introduces you, “and now ladies and gentlemen one of our veteran and favorite dancers, Lilith!”
You take the stage ; back turned towards the crowd, grabbing onto the pole ; a beautiful black outfit snug to your body ; and your music hits the stereos, a loud guitar solo opening the song.
Eddie thought his eyes were going to fall out of his sockets, immediately recognizing the solo as his own. ; And when you turned your head to face the crowd making eye contact with Eddie and giving him a wink, he knew he was done for.
He watched you in awe, he couldn’t believe someone in a strip club was dancing to his song. But in this case it wasn’t just anyone, it was you. Someone he’s known almost his whole life, someone he’s been trying to ask out for way too long but had doubts because of his own stupidity. When your performance was over he whistled from his seat and immediately turned to Leah, “are any of the private rooms taken?”
When you exited the stage and headed back to the dressing room you were met with cheers and hugs. Everyone loved your dance and gave you your praises.
After a few moments of celebrating and thank yous, Leah came in, a smirk across her face ; more or less as a ‘I told you so’ look. “Room #2. Go, now” The girls all gave a collective “ohhhhhhhhh”, as you rolled your eyes and left.
Eddie is standing in the middle of the room this time. You shut the door and lean up against it. You're the first to speak up ; “So,” you start to walk closer, “what did you think?”
“Don’t come any closer.”
You stop, baffled at his words. “Why?”
“Because if you come any closer I’m going to lay you on this couch and do unthinkable things to you.”
You blush, hard. “You sure you wanna do that with a security camera in the corner?”
He looks up at the camera and waves, “free entertainment, no?”
You chuckle, such a typical Eddie answer.
“Well-”
“If you wanna know what I thought, I’m seriously never gonna get you out of my head now. How the hell am I going to ever perform that song without thinking straight?”
You look down shyly, rocking on your heels.
“And as much as I would love to give your friends some content, I do want to do this whole thing right.” He brings himself to stand right in front of you, “let me take you on a date, a proper one. Pick you up, dinner-”
“Maybe…bowling?” He brings his head to the side, giving you a bewildered look.
“I mean, if you want too-”
“I’m joking, but dinner would be great.”
“Cool-cool. Can I pick you up tomorrow at 6?”
“Sounds like a date.” You stand more on your heels, placing a small kiss to his cheek and leaving him alone in the room.
Quick Notes - Didn't expect this to get as much love as it did so thank you again! Reblogs are appreciated! :) also yes I have an idea for a Part 3 but we'll see!

Double Date (part 6.5)
Better late then never here's the mentioned double date between Harley and Ivey, and Hyena and Hood. It's unedited so please point out any errors you find.
Previous | Masterpost | Next
They really should have expected this when Harley had mentioned Jason and Danny joining her and Pam for a double date. Of course Harley would forget to actually plan, and would just show up, dressed to the nines with Pam on her arm yelling about an event at Penguin's club.
"Come on! we're going to be late for karaoke!" Harley yelled before she processed that Hood had ducked to hide his face and Hyena had a gun trained on them, his mouth stretched too wide in a snarl. "Oh, oops," She said sheepishly as Pam sighed and shook her head.
"Harley, did you forget to tell them we were coming?" Pam questioned with fond exasperation.
"No she did not," Jason said, returning with his helmet on and offering Danny his muzzle. Danny shrugged and took it though he didn't put it on right away. "She mentioned a double date when she brought Danny the flowers but we hadn't heard anything since."
"Oh shoot I'm sorry guys! I got so excited I guess I made the plan in my head! I could have sworn I'd asked," Harley apologized, pouting at the two of them. "Can we still go out though? I really want to do the Karaoke night, I was really looking forward to going with both of you."
Jason glanced at Danny, who glanced back at him, first uncertainly, then when Jason shrugged indicating he didn't mind, with puppydog eyes. Danny wanted to go. Jason sighed. "Fine, get out and give us 20 minutes to get ready and then we can go."
Harley cheered and Danny grinned, scrambling off to their bedroom to grab their clothes. Danny decided on a pair of leather pants and a shirt just sheer enough that his scars weren't obvious, and a more casual cloth facemask with a pattern of bared fangs. It covered his mouth and nose but he could slip a straw under it to have a drink, and it wouldn't muffle his voice too much when they sang.
Jason chose black pants, a red shirt, a brown leather jacket with plenty of concealed weapons, and a wide domino mask. He also took a minute to colour the white streak in his hair black so he'd be less distinctive, insisting Danny did the same, once he'd finished his eyeliner. Danny groaned about it but did it anyway.
"Okay, we're ready to go?" Jason asked, checking Danny out. He sure as hell looked ready for a night out on the town, he looked so fucking good with eyeliner, and those tight black black leather pants... No, Jason couldn't focus on that!
Danny, who smiled with his eyes and nodded eagerly, grabbing Jason's hand and dragging him towards the door. "We're ready to go!" He cheered as soon as he spotted Harley, who immediately cheered as well and lunged forward to hug Danny tightly as he laughed.
"Good now let's go! We're already late!" Harley babbled, dragging Danny towards the door as Pam and Jason followed at a more languid pace.
"And who's fault is that Harls?" Pam chided gently. "You need to learn how to communicate plans like this with people."
"I know, but I really thought I had," Harley said with a pout as she continued to drag Hyena out of the building and into a car they all piled into, Jason insisted on driving Eben though it wasn't his car because he couldn't imagine Harley was a good driver. Pam laughed and said she wasn't while Harley pouted, Jason drove.
They arrived at the iceberg lounge with no trouble. IDs weren't needed to enter, just being recognized as one of Gotham's rogues and since right now Hood and Hyena were practically royalty they were welcomed with open arms. Penguin even got them a last minute table and comped their first bottle, he knew it would pay to stay on the good side of Gotham's new power couple after all. Harley chugged her first glass of bubbly and took off to put her name down for the song she wanted.
"She's not a half bad singer," Pam assured them as she sipped her own glass of champagne more slowly. "Are either of you going to sing?"
Jason glanced over at Danny, who seemed to be hesitating, looking uncertain. Jason shifted closer and wrapped an arm around his boyfriend's waist. "Do it if you want to, I'll go up with you," he encouraged and Danny relaxed a bit.
Danny turned a little to whisper into Jason's ear. "I don't really sing, I'm good at it but since I'm a banshee my voice can be powerful. I've always been worried that singing will have, I don't know, do something?" He said like a question.
"Has it ever done anything?" Jason asked and Danny hesitated before shaking his head.
"No, not unless I scream," Danny admitted reluctantly.
"Alright, then we'll give it a try," Jason assured, kissing the side of Danny’s head before taking a sip of his drink.
Danny nodded and grabbed a straw, slipping it into the drink so he could sip it. Pam topped up their drinks when they were half empty.
"So what song do you think you want to do? Harley'll probably drag me up to do a duet. I always say I won't but she gets me with those puppy-dog eyes," she chuckled fondly, clearly not actually upset about that.
"Oh I know the feeling," Jason agreed, shaking his head.
"I have excellent puppydog eyes," Danny chirped, snuggling closer. Jason rolled his eyes behind his mask.
"I bet he does," Pam laughed softly, amused by the two of them.
"What song should we do? Do you think they have Come With Me Now? We've sung that one together before? Or Vicious, No no! We should do Zombie Love!" Danny suggested sounding excited, though that might just be two glasses of champagne in a body unused to managing alcohol. As long as Danny’s ghostly abilities didn't clear toxins as quickly as physical injuries.
"They can find whatever you want," Pam promised with a snicker. "Pangoo wants to be on both your good sides really bad."
Jason snorted, leaning back against the booth with a crooked and cocky grin. "He knows what my rules are, everyone does, follow them and we'll be fine," he said with a careless little wave.
"Oh don't tell him that!" Harley said, popping out of nowhere and making Jason and Danny jump. "It's so fun watching him scramble," she snickered, flopping down next to Pam, wrapping her arms around Pam's neck. "Come sing with meee," she pleaded as Pam poured her another drink.
"Harley you promised you wouldn't make me this time," Pam chided her without any heat. She didn't actually mind it seemed.
"We'll go first and you can talk her into it," Danny cackled, grabbing Jason's hand and dragging him up and over to the sign-in desk.
They signed up to do Zombie Love because they both thought it was funny. It wasn’t a traditional duet or anything but they could sing it together, that seemed to make Danny feel better too. His voice was beautiful, and he kept his distance from the mic so it wouldn't be too loud because he had very powerful lungs. He seemed more interested in practically grinding on Jason anyway, who was just trying very hard not to blush and potentially taint his fearsome reputation by blushing at his boyfriend's antics.
Harley was whooping and wolf whistling at them excitedly before the song ended and Danny dragged Jason back off the stage laughing breathlessly. He seemed thrilled as he pressed himself against Jason purring under the cover of the music and nuzzling against his neck.
"Hyena we're in public," Jason half joked with his hands gripping Danny's hips too tightly.
"No one's going to say anything, they're scared of us," Danny murmured into Jason's ear making him shiver.
"Hey lovebirds! We supported you while you sang!" Harley accused them, bouncing over to practically pry the two of them apart.
Danny let go while laughing, smiling at Harley with his eyes. "So did you two decide what you're going to sing?" He questioned, raising his eyebrows.
"Ya! We're going to do Promiscuous Girl," Harley yipped, Ivy just smiling at her indulgently.
"Then of course we'll cheer you on! But then we're going to dance!" Danny insisted with a wicked glint in his eye that nearly had Jason swooning. Oh he was absolutely going to be pent up and suffering by the end of the night. They should do things like this more often.
Harley and Ivy's duet was pretty good, Pam kept Harley from going too off key and they were clearly having fun. Jason decided to be more stoic about his support, nodding his head to the beat and letting Danny howl and whistle for the both of them. They both clapped when they finished and Harley bounced off the stage again with Pam close in tow.
Danny grabbed Jason and dragged him to the dance floor, and Jason wondered how he could be so graceful and confident in a fight and so fucking lost on the dance floor. He was too aware of his body, and the eyes that were on him and didn't fully know how to behave. Thankfully Danny made sure that didn't last long as he dragged Jason into dancing with him. Jason was content to be essentially a prop and watch as Danny moved with more sensual grace than he had any right to be, flowing with the music in a way that was almost hypnotic.
Jason only became aware that other people thought so too when Harley cut in demanding to dance with Danny as well! Jason chuckled and relinquished Danny to her, going to sit back at their table with Pam. Only then did he notice all the people staring at Danny, the little ring of watchers they'd acquired.
"Is he part siren or something?" Ivy teased him as Jason drank a glass of.. something probably too quickly.
"Something like that," Jason agreed vaguely. "Why are the Gotham City Sirens recruiting?"
"No, but the Birds of Prey might be," Ivy said, smirking at him.
"Hey, no planning to steal my boyfriend," Hood joked, his eyes drawn back to Danny and Harley dancing together. It was... something, they were both completely unaware of the eyes on them, confident and at home in their bodies and sexuality. It was quite the show, and Jason was just glad he was the one Danny would be coming home with.
"Can we borrow him at least?" She asked playfully.
"Weelll I suppose if he agrees to it I can't be too mad," Jason relented, hesitation only for show. They would be good friends to Hyena he was sure.
"Good, now let's just enjoy the night, and how fucking sexy our partners are." Pam said, raising her glass to Jason in a toast, which he returned, clinking his glass against hers.

Office Secrets
Luke Cooper x f!reader
TW: smut, p in v, unprotected, fingering… lmk if there’s anything else lol
Word count: 1526
Friendly note, I wrote this all in one day so it’s probably not the best but I’ve been so obsessed w Evan lately I just needed to write lol Enjoy!!!
~~~
“So, who wants to bet the two newbies are doing it?” Meredith says as she puts coins into one of the vending machines.
“They so are,” Kevin says. “Have you seen the way they look at each other it’s like- Pam and Jim.”
“Hey!”
Angela shakes her head. “You people are disgusting… but I wouldn’t doubt it. I’ve seen them flirting on multiple occasions.”
“This is all circumstantial, it doesn’t mean they’re sleeping together,” Oscar argues.
“I would bet they are,” Phillas says with a laugh. “I mean I remember how fun it was being all secret with Bob, it’s so thrilling.”
Pam glances at you in the annex, Luke’s leaning back on your desk, smiling as you two talk. She looks back to the group and shrugs. “It’s possible they are.”
~~~
“Hey y/n, do you think you could make some copies for me?” Pam asks as you’re walking by.
“Yeah of course, double or single sided?” You reply with a smile.
“Double please.” She hands you the original.
You walk to the copier, but as you’re about to open it, Luke slips in front of you.
“Luke I was about to make copies,” you say, annoyed.
“So do I, you aren’t the only person in the office who needs to get stuff done,” he laughs.
“Since when have you ever had things to get done? You’re the laziest person here.”
“That’s hostile,” he replies, turning around to give you a smirk. “I might have to report you to HR.”
“Just please hurry up,” you mumble.
“Anything for you babe.” He winks.
You turn to the camera and stare, almost at your limit with this boy.
~~~
“I just don’t understand men sometimes it’s like, he’s so different when we’re alone yet in public he wants to be the biggest ass ever,” you rant to the camera, you’re in the hallway near the elevator where no one will hear you. “Sometimes I just want to knee him in the balls and get on with my day.”
“If he’s so annoying why do you sleep with him?”
You frown. “He’s really good at that stuff, most assholes are honestly.”
~~~
You’re at the vending machine getting a snack when you feel arms snake around your waist. You quickly turn around and push him away.
“Luke stop it we can’t be doing this here,” you whisper.
He looks out the windows then back at you. “Nobody’s around, come on just one kiss. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you since last night baby.”
You and Luke were hired about three weeks ago now, both just interns to help out with the little things around the office. At first you thought Luke was an idiot slack off, but after a week of him constantly flirting with you, you decided he wasn’t that bad of a guy and of course he’s gorgeous. And, after one night where he gave you a ride home this simple work crush turned into casual sex.
You made Luke promise to keep it a secret, you didn’t want anyone at the office to think your personal life would interfere with you doing your job. So, far you don’t think anyone has figured it out, and your glad.
“Don’t talk like that here,” you say, giving him a slight glare. “We made a deal.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
“I’m serious Luke, imagine if Michael found out. He’d make it a whole thing.”
“It probably already is a thing, Jim and Pams was.”
You scoff at him. “Okay, that doesn’t mean this has to be.”
“Whatever,” he says as he begins to walk away. “See you later.”
You give an annoyed look to the camera and shake your head before returning to your previous activity.
~~~
“Listen, y/n is a good girl I guess, I just wish she’d stop acting like the office finding out about our thing is the worst possibility imaginable,” Luke tells the crew outside the break room.
“What do you think would happen if they found out?”
“I don’t know, they’d give us weird looks. It doesn’t really matter it’s not like me and her are gonna be working here forever. At least I know I’m not, not sure what her life plans are.”
~~~
You stare at the clock and sigh, still a whole nother hour left at the office. This whole day has been terrible, mostly due to Luke. You don’t understand why he’s acting so annoying today. Usually he’s decent toward you, probably because of what he wants from you the second work ends. You turn back to your desk and start to organize papers, deciding Luke isn’t important.
A few have passed when Luke appears beside you. He leans back on your desk, one of his hands gripping the edge. You try to ignore him, keeping your attention on the stack of paper you’ve been messing with. Luke doesn’t let you ignore him forever though.
“Can you come with me somewhere where we can speak privately… away from the cameras.”
You look up at him. Is this it? Is he really going to break it off at work? You can’t believe it. You want to give him a piece of your mind, so you slightly nod and get up, following him out of the annex and down the hall to one of the stock rooms. You’re ready to start giving it to him but before you can he smashes his lips on yours.
At first, you’re caught off guard, he’s never kissed you at work before. You don’t hesitate to kiss him back however. He backs you up till the back of your legs hit a spare desk. You let him guide you onto it, your kiss turning into something more.
He bites down on your lip, his hands roaming up and down the sides of your body. You have to admit, you’d been craving this too. Even though you saw each other last night. Luke was the best you’d ever had, how were you supposed to not want him again? Even though he’s been annoying you all day you can’t help but melt into the palm of his hand, he’s just so damn attractive.
“Luke, we can’t do this at work,” you whisper, the sensible part of you taking over.
“Nobody will know, come on baby, I’ve been thinking of you all day. I need you,” he replies.
Your stomach fills with butterflies at his words. He knows exactly how to persuade you. You fall back on the desk as he kisses down your neck, Your legs wrap around his waist, he makes you feel so good. He brings his lips back up to yours as one of his hands starts to slip up your skirt and under your panties.
He starts to rub small circles on your clit; you to moan into his mouth. He smirks against your mouth. You wrap your arms around his neck and pull him closer, you love the feeling of his body against yours. It’s the best you’ve ever felt.
“You’re already so wet baby,” he mumbles on your lips.
“Luke,” you moan.
“Do you want it baby?”
You nod, moving one of your hands down to rub the bulge in his pants. He grins at you and removes his fingers, beginning to undo his belt and fly. In seconds you feel his tip brushing against your entrance. He leans back over you as he begins to slowly thrust inside of you. You bite down on your lip and close your eyes, the familiar feeling of him filling you taking over.
You throw your head back as he starts fucking you. The sound of the desk hitting the wall doesn’t even register in your head. You’re too engulfed in how good Luke’s dick feels inside you, hitting that special spot that makes your legs shake. His head rests in the crook of your neck, he’s moaning and whispering all the dirty things he wants to do to you. It’s all too good to be true.
Eventually though, you feel that tightening in your stomach, your orgasm approching. Luke must realize this because he doesn’t stop his violent thrusts for even a second. You hold on to him tightly, biting down on his clothed shoulder as you finally cum. He finishes with you, pushing himself so far inside you he’s hitting your cervix.
He lays on you for a few seconds before pulling himself up enough to look down at you. His chest is still heaving as he speaks in a soft voice, “I really like you y/n.”
“I really like you too Luke,” you say with a weak smile.
Both of you get yourselves decent fast, you’ve been away for at least fifteen minutes by now. You give Luke one last kiss before exiting the small room alone, he promised to wait a minute or too before following.
As you sit at your desk and resume your previous activities, Luke walks by you, sending a quick wink before disappearing into the main office. You give a small stare into one of the cameras, your face turning bright red. This was only the beginning.

“I think that’s everyone.” The guard held a clipboard, crossing off the names as each villain passed. “Wait a minute…”
“What’s wrong now?”
“Poison Ivy’s still missing!”
***
The night was long, having just gotten your little one asleep in your bed. TV still blasting whatever late night show that used to be their favourite kids show, but you couldn’t turn it off as they’d just wake up again.
It seem’s that sleep finally caught up to you though, only able to remember opening your eyes to a beautiful sight. Instead of the baby next to you, they were gently cradling in green arms. Following them up to find Ivy, face full of adoration at the now babbling child.
Reaching for her face with chubby hands, one’s she graciously let hold her. Finding her eye’s glance over to you, softening even more seeing you returning to look. “There you are my Orchid…”
“Your back, Pam.”
“For now, but I’ll make our time last~”

Office Dynamics
The usual chaos at Dunder Mifflin was in full swing as you settled into your desk. You glanced around the office, noting the familiar faces: your best friend Pam at the receptionist desk, Dwight giving one of his many stern warnings to an uninterested Jim, and Michael hiding behind his office door, occasionally peeking out to see if anyone needed "managing."
You had been at Dunder Mifflin for a few years now, and over time, you had built strong relationships with your coworkers. You were especially close to Pam and Dwight. Pam was your confidante, the one who shared your love for art and a good cup of coffee. Dwight, with all his quirks, had become a surprisingly loyal friend. And then there was Jim, with whom you'd developed a complicated yet exciting "fling."
The camera crew caught you at your desk, and you gave a small wave before starting your work.
Interview with Y/N: "I love it here. Everyone's so... unique," you laughed. "Pam and I have been friends since I started, and Dwight, well, he's an acquired taste, but he's a good friend. Michael... he kind of sees me as his secret favorite. I don't know why, but I'll take it."
As you typed away, Michael's voice echoed through the office. "Y/N! Can you come into my office for a second?"
You rolled your eyes playfully at the camera before standing up and making your way to Michael's office. He shut the door behind you, a serious look on his face.
"Y/N, I need your opinion on something very important," Michael said, his tone hushed.
"Sure, Michael. What's up?" you replied, curious.
"I've been thinking about the next office party theme. What do you think about a ‘Scranton Renaissance Fair’?" he asked, his eyes wide with excitement.
You couldn't help but smile. "I think it's a great idea, Michael. Everyone will love it."
Michael beamed, clearly satisfied with your response. "I knew I could count on you, Y/N. You're the best."
You left Michael's office, feeling a bit lighter. As you walked back to your desk, you noticed Jim watching you with a smirk. You raised an eyebrow at him, silently asking what he found so amusing.
He got up and sauntered over to your desk, leaning against it casually. "So, the boss's favorite, huh?"
You shrugged, trying to hide your smile. "What can I say? I have a way with people."
Jim chuckled, his eyes sparkling. "Well, you certainly have a way with me."
Before you could respond, Pam appeared beside you, a stack of papers in her hands. "Hey, Y/N. Got a minute?"
You nodded, grateful for the distraction. As Pam led you to the break room, you glanced back at Jim, who was still watching you, his smile never wavering.
In the break room, Pam set the papers down and turned to you, a knowing look on her face. "So, what's going on with you and Jim?"
You felt a blush creep up your neck. "Nothing, really. We're just... having fun."
Pam raised an eyebrow. "Uh-huh. Just be careful, okay? Jim's a great guy, but office flings can get complicated."
You nodded, appreciating her concern. "Thanks, Pam. I'll keep that in mind."
As the day went on, you found yourself in the middle of a prank war between Jim and Dwight. Dwight had somehow managed to get himself locked in the conference room, and Jim was pretending to have lost the key.
Interview with Dwight: "Y/N is one of the few competent people in this office. She understands the importance of structure and discipline. Jim, on the other hand, is a menace."
Interview with Jim: "Y/N and I have a good thing going. She's smart, funny, and knows how to keep Dwight in check. Plus, she's got this amazing smile that just... well, it's something special."
As you tried to mediate the situation, Michael called another impromptu meeting. Everyone gathered in the conference room, and you took a seat next to Pam. Jim sat across from you, giving you a playful wink.
Michael started the meeting with his usual enthusiasm. "Alright, everyone! I have exciting news. We're going to have a ‘Scranton Renaissance Fair’! And it was all Y/N's brilliant idea."
You felt everyone's eyes on you, and you gave a modest smile. "It should be fun."
After the meeting, as everyone was getting back to work, Jim cornered you near the copier. "So, a Renaissance Fair, huh? Any chance you’ll dress up as a princess?"
You laughed, shaking your head. "Only if you dress up as a knight."
Jim grinned, leaning in closer. "Deal. But just so you know, I'm pretty sure I'd be the one saving you."
You felt your heart race as you looked into his eyes. "We'll see about that."
The rest of the day flew by, and as the office began to empty, you found yourself alone with Jim. He walked you to your car, his hand brushing against yours.
"So, dinner tonight?" he asked, his voice hopeful.
You nodded, feeling a warmth spread through you. "I'd love that."
Interview with Y/N: "Jim and I... we have this connection. It's fun, it's exciting, and it just feels right. I'm not sure where it's going, but I'm enjoying the ride."
As you drove home, you couldn't stop smiling. The day had been filled with the usual office antics, but amidst it all, you felt a sense of happiness and anticipation. Tonight, you'd get to explore whatever this was with Jim a little further, and you couldn't wait.

Loving this
Okay, how has NO ONE written an alternate universe fanfic of the hex arc in s2 but with each member of Sibuna getting a different hex?? Like if Amber was mute, Alfie getting older, Patricia forgetting things, and Fabian getting younger? Or any different combinations. I know each of their hexes were tailored to them specifically, but can you imagine the ridiculousness that could prevail with any sort of combo of the canon hexes
#i love these ideas so far ooooo yum yum yum#swapping alfie and amber’s is such an easy thing to do that now I’m laughing at poor fabian and Patricia if their hexes got switched#fabian REALLY being unable to communicate with joy and nina#the ‘pam’ ordeal arguably works better if fabian legit can’t speak#and now joy thinks he’s giving her the silent treatment#and patricia just wandering about with her memory getting more and more hazy has such hilarious but also angsty potential#like she keeps forgetting that joy is home and someone has to keep bringing her back to joy like a kid who lost their mom in the store#when the hex gets really bad she starts to freak out bc what actually IS her name?? bc people keep calling her different things!!#‘patricia trixie yacker— WHICH IS IT??’#ugh all of these are so fun#house of anubis

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
they were here, she says,
You’ve had your share of bad days.
Oh God , enough to fill an A4 binder with. For example, knocking out that tooth when you were twelve. A butterfly effect of fuck ups that led to a scuffle at school: blood in your mouth, a tooth on the ground, and a looong suspension. You received quite the earful at home, that day.
And then there was telling your parents you had dropped out of college. Telling them you were moving halfway across the country with your boyfriend. Breaking up with said boyfriend in your favourite diner; thus sullying Pam’s waffles and pancakes with the bitter taste of… oh-fuck-I-don’t-know-how-I’ll-afford-an-apartment-now. Oh, and heartbreak – although that wasn’t as immediate.
Scratch that, the day of the breakup had been fairly mundane. Pleasant, even. Jamie had an off day, and you only had a few lectures. He didn’t tell you, of course, so meeting him in the apartment was a surprise. You’re home earlier than usual, and you can’t quite bear to wake him up; slumped on the sofa like an old cat. He’s tired, lectures and clerkships running him ragged for the past few years. Only a year out until residency, with bags under his eyes as proof, and you see him less and less. All things considered, you’re glad to spend the rest of the day with him.
You’d spent too long after the break up analysing the days leading up to it: for a sign, something in his behaviour that would’ve warned you. And so, you remember it quite vividly: kicking your shoes off, putting your bag down, and sinking into the sofa next to him. You curl into him, looking up at his face: steady, tempered breathing. Something at your chest, solid and heavy. He looks peaceful, happy; and you haven't seen that side of him in quite a while.
When you shift against him, you knock against his shoulder. Jamie stirs, groggy, and eyes adjusting to the light. The first thing he sees as he wakes is you; romantic, in theory. His expression is etched into your subconscious; stark and stiff like a marble statue, or a tombstone. A flash of disappointment, lip drawn in what seemed like disgust – but only for a moment.
" Morning , baby." You squeeze his side, and take his hand into yours. That look ; it's gone almost as quickly as it came.
"Thought…" He frowns, fighting dregs of sleep. "I thought you would be back later."
"Nope." You give him a smile and he returns with one that doesn't quite reach his eyes. He puts a hand on your cheek.
"Morning," Probably tired, he sighs deeply. You move on with the day. And he breaks up with you, not even 6 hours later.
You had had 4 years of that: good days, bad days, but most of them had been… mundane. Boring. Not quite the heat and intensity of true love, as the movies had gaslighted you into believing in.
You like the old black and white ones the best. Old fashioned, old-timey folk; declarations of love in tinny transatlantic accents. Suddenly, you’re on the floor of your childhood bedroom; eyes wide at the Sound of Music. Maria and Von Trapp hand in hand: her dress billowing, the flash of white glove on the small of her back. Love, love, love; and your lack of it.
You feel its loss all the same.
Despite all your efforts – including a dash to the station that could rival an Olympic sprinter – you were late to your first lecture. Sweaty, out of breath, and ambushed with a pen and paper; thrust into your hands on arrival. You look around to see dozens of heads down, scribbling furiously. A surprise test – and you’re late.
Hand aching, you barely finish within the two hours, after bullshitting your way through at least half of the questions. By the looks of the people streaming out of the hall; faces rumpled and grimacing; you’re not the only one. However, it does little to comfort you. You’re sure you're the only one failing so spectacularly, with the semester already half over.
You'd smacked your leg on the coffee table on the way out and a book had slammed to the floor. An art book, the kind in a model home - and you know damn well Miguel's not an enthusiast. The image sticks for some reason, leg aching as you trudge to your next class. When he gives you that blank look; the memory of men gone past is haunting – dead-eyed, and blank, like eyes cut out of a painting. You wonder if a Van Gogh would feel the same with the brilliant blue of eyes slashed out.
Nevertheless, you feel like lead. Off
to your next class, and it's going over material passed out the day before; which you didn’t have the time to look over. The professor drones on; voice monotonous and gravelly. Struggling to keep up, you sink into your seat – tapping away at your laptop, whatever you can get down. You pick at your lip, unravelling; unfurling like the tip of a slashed rope.
That's what you’re waiting for, you think: sandbags clattering down from stage left, to bring the rest of this whole farce down.
A sinking feeling, that starts at your chest and makes its way to the tops of your fingers and toes, leaves you numb for the rest of the day. Dread, like a shadow, at your heels in the corridors, across the courtyard, all around campus. Another lecture, and you make it in time for labs, barely, but there’s no time to go over notes; what you managed to scrape together in preparation. And of course , your lab partner’s sick, because that’s just the kind of day you’re having. It’s hectic, doing the work of two people with only the scraps you’ve cobbled together.
The pressure mounts. Like liquid in that flask you weren’t meant to stopper; and you just might end up like its remnants on the counter. Glass everywhere but where it should be. For a good grade, it helps to be organised: everything in its place, always. Except it isn’t, and you’ve fucked it up, again . It means the results don’t match up in your lab book, and another hour staring at liquid decanting, monitoring temperatures. Staring at stark white walls, with achy legs.
You step out whilst machines run in your stead, and shed your lab coat. It’s hot and stuffy in there but out in the corridor, you can finally breathe. Forehead on the cool wall, it all stops for a moment. The persistent buzz of your phone, sat in the pocket of your trousers, creeps into the quiet.
Absent-mindedly, you turn it on with a click. The buzzing stops. You’ve just missed a call from Miguel. It’s odd, he doesn’t usually call, but it’s the little box underneath the notification that makes you pause. A message, from a number you thought you’d blocked – that you should’ve blocked.
From:Jamie <3
Hey
From:Jamie <3
We should meet. I’ve still got some of your things in the apartment.
Your blood runs cold. Dread, like a shadow; its hand wrapped your neck. You can’t breathe, stuck under the weight of something at your chest. You can’t breathe, the walls close in. We should meet , he says. Like it’s the easiest thing in the world; just friends catching up over a coffee. Like you didn’t watch him carve out a chunk of your heart with a rusty spoon.
A panic attack, and you’re awkwardly hunched over by the wall, phone in hand. Someone will find you here, lying on the vinyl floor in Block B, spread eagle between lab 6 and 7. Dramatic timing, but if it kills you; you’ll find a way to haunt your ex's ass for the foreseeable future. And Miguel’s too, because if you’re having a bad day; then somewhere out there, he’s having a good one.
~~~
The apartment is still when Miguel gets back – unusually so. You’re not on the sofa, watching a mindless soap opera, or howling some song in the shower. And he’s had to deal with that most days for the past few weeks, a break in the peace and quiet he’s so carefully cultivated. Rigorous routine, they keep him together. He needed it; the way myth needs a martyr, the way flowers on a small grave needs a body. A tick-tick-tick in his head, that drives him a little less crazy after a morning run, or a good meal when he comes home. A countdown, he thinks, a mechanical clock whirring and puttering with a shake of its gears. He feels them stutter and start, slowing down, but not quite stopping. An ache so deep, he feels its creak with every step.
Absent-mindedly, he looks around the empty apartment, pulling at his ears.
When he was younger, Gabi would pull at his ears, to get him out of a book. Reading, always reading, whenever he could. At the dinner table, when his mamá would rap his knuckles with a wooden spoon and chuckle lightly at his little grimace. No en la mesa, Miguelito. Not at the table, Miggy. Léeme más tarde – read it to me later.
It was when he got his braces, and picked up a slight lisp. He stopped talking for a while, not completely; but a lot less, not as interactive in lessons. And it was always little Miguel, at the front of the class with his hand up to answer. It didn’t help that Gabi poked fun at him, often sneaking up to him to hiss in his ear: palms pressed together with a slithering motion, and then a strike to his ribs like una víbora - a viper , struggling to say his S’s. They’d fight because of it after, tousling on the floor of their bedroom in a mass of limbs, like pythons squeezing prey. Or at least, until their mamá rushed to separate them.
She didn’t like it when her boys fought; so they’d been forced to make up every time. He still has the scars to prove it.
Car magazines at first, and then the newspaper, whatever book he had picked up at the library that week. Even with his lisp, his mother made sure he read to her, and sometimes to Gabi as well, at least once a week. Looking back, she was never perfect; the things he knows now about his dear mamá, and her visage tumbles like Ozymandias in the sand. Her mother, married to a piece-of-shit mechanic; and his mother, elbow deep in the oil spill. That’s the funny thing about love, he thinks. Love, and the lack of it; dripping through the cracks, passed on through generations. Maybe mamá felt the gears shuddering in her chest. He hopes Gabi was saved from that burden.
A small voice at the back of his mind tells him: it’s not enough. Doesn’t explain the little boy pulling at his ears, in Miguel’s jacket and dress shoes.
A glimpse in the reflection of a shiny pan on the side table, and he looks like shit. Eyebags, a permanent scowl, shadowy lines that prick at the corners of his eyes. It’s ironic, crows feet without the penchant for laughing. He thinks you’d find it funny. The pink and purple of a setting sun spills in through windows and makes him sigh. It’s late, and you’re still not home.
God, you're strange; sticking your nose where you shouldn't. Disrupting the calm of his apartment. A sanctuary, and you've got your grubby paws all over it. Your shit is all over the place; pun-based mugs in the cabinet, chewed pen lids with no pens in sight, a blanket on the couch. The same blanket, a ratty old thing, that he usually meets you wrapped in when he gets back. A creature of habit, he folds it up; trying to ignore the whispers of your perfume, sweet and heady on the fabric.
He gets dressed, starting with dinner; knife on a chopping board cutting onions and peppers into cubes. It's therapeutic, the steady thud ringing out into the kitchen. Quiet, for a fleeting moment. But the worry, it sticks ; despite his better judgement. Before he changes his mind, he clicks open his phone to call you. It rings out – you don’t pick up.
The urge to call again is surprisingly troublesome, so he shoves it down with a piece of tortilla. It sits in his chest, regardless.
~~~
You trudge into the apartment. Squelch seems more accurate, sopping wet as you step out of waterlogged trainers. It was an inopportune time to wear jeans and forget a jacket – and you fight the urge to wring out onto the wooden planks. Miguel would kill you; the place was already falling apart, and water-warped floorboards might just be the last straw.
It’s thundering outside; a torrential downpour you’d just been dragged through. Dragged, half-running through streets-turned-streams, with nothing but a tank top and hoodie on your back. And you must look a sight , eyes bleary and slick with rainwater. The bag heavy on your back goes first, slipped off your shoulder and on the floor next to the coffee table with a thunk . You’re unzipping the flimsy canvas, inspecting its contents. A soaked through textbook, clumps of loose paper. You’re ready to cry when you see what's happened to the pages of your lab book; bleeding ink that’s only half-legible. But it’s the state of your laptop that makes your chest really heave and knees weak.
It’s slick with rainwater, and the sandwich you’d forgotten to eat, smeared across its fans. Caked on, more accurately; an odd sludge that you try your best to wipe away. You put it on the coffee table and your hand shakes as you press the power button. A click, a stuttering whir, and the screen flickers on. Then, just as strained, it putters off. Dead. Completely dead.
You sink onto the floor, head in your hands between the coffee table and the couch. Everything was on there: photos from senior prom, end of semester projects – your whole life. You have to dig your teeth into your bottom lip to bite back a scream.
Miguel peers from the kitchen, watching your silent breakdown. Quiet, and so still, with only the slight shake of shoulders to tell him that something is wrong. He glances at your half-opened laptop. He’d eaten already, clearing up what remains of his dinner and this is the sight he’s greeted with: the lady of the lake, lain between the reeds.
He shakes the image out of his head, and walks over. You feel a tentative prod, and look up.
“...I called you,” He says lightly, scratching at his neck.
You blink up at him. He thinks you look like a painting, watery and forlorn, framed in the yellow light of the soft bulbs.
“I was busy,” It’s not said with malice, nor as lilting as your usual sarcasm. Plain, simple. Busy. Your head slumps back into the little hollow you’ve made with your arms.
And so he sits, shoulders brushing against yours. He’s frustratingly patient, presence warm and comfortable despite… well, despite everything.
You can’t help it. Popping back up, you state, “You never call, though.”
“You’re never this late home.” Home. The word is heavy, knocks you onto your heels.
“So?” You shrug. “Could’ve been out with friends, or at a club–”
Laughter slips out like apples loose in a bag, spills onto the floor. Crisp, sweet; but you glare at him all the same.
“You don’t have friends.” He says it with the remnants of a smile, teasing. A challenge, and you’re more than happy to accept.
“ Not true , fuckface.” It is. You'd lost track of most of your friends after moving – and all the ones you made here? Your friends were Jamie's friends, and they chose him in the divorce. " You don't have any friends."
"I do ."
"You don't." It's your turn to scoff. "It's a Friday night and you're in here, washing up and planning to go to bed at a reasonable time."
"I'm an adult, doesn't mean I don't have–"
"The ones you fuck don't count." And then you pinch the bridge of your nose. "God forbid, if that's how you treat your friends…"
He laughs, properly, and you feel it in your chest too: the kind of laughter that bubbles like little breaths rising to the top of a lake.
“M’serious.” He says it in between gasping breaths and you try to steady your own giggles. "And, I have a friend who could take a look at your laptop, if you wanted."
His eyes flick over to the crime scene besides you. It's sweet, but.. "It's gone, Miguel, I know. You don't need to… try and make me feel better."
" Chula ," He flicks the deep lines forming at your brow. You look up and he says, softly, "I'm not trying to make you feel better. I'm trying to get you off of the floor so I can mop up that puddle."
With the way he says it, with that little smile, you don't believe him.
Now he's got your attention, he says, "You could've skipped that 9:00am. Or just been late. Don't think it would've mattered."
"Maybe." You shake your head. "M'not the best student. I'm blindingly… average. Just wanted it to be different, this year."
Your voice crackles, leaves something in the air he can't quite name. Quiet, again, except this time it's thicker. Smoke, ash, rolling clouds of melancholy in the little front room. For once, he doesn't know what to say.
You've got your head back on the sofa now, with a deep sigh. You look at the ceiling, and he's looking at you. It's the first time he's able to really study your features, trace the outline of your lips and sloping cheekbone. Your lashes, damp with little droplets of water, look crystalline in the light. Sparkling. Like the paintings depicted in the hefty book sat on his coffee table. He's read that one, twice , cover-to-cover in a fit of… insanity, maybe. He's not a man of frills and fancy, didn't really get it; nor why Gabi had given him the book in the first place. It felt like a filler piece, something to put on the little table and forget about, or to prop up a wooden leg. But that's not how his brother works, frustratingly convoluted. It's stupid, Miguel thought. Everything had to mean something , or what was it good for?
But looking at you, here, like this ; it clicks. Reaching over for the book, he leans it against the flat of his thigh. And you see it in the corner of your eye, watching as he flicks through the pages. Filled with art, it's the kind of thing on a table in a model apartment: a space-filler in a false home. When you first came here, the starkness and severity of the space had stuck. To you, the book had only reinforced it. Who was Miguel? A serial killer for all you know, stocking fluff pieces and coffee table books; only pretending to be human.
Finally, he stops, finger over a specific place. A double page spread, of surprisingly good quality.
He clicks his tongue. " This one. "
You follow his finger. A woman in a lake doesn't do it justice. It's beautiful, but it doesn't mean anything to you.
" Ophelia, John Everett Mills, 1852 ." He reads out the little label at the bottom of the image. "Like from Hamlet."
You shrug. "I don't…?"
"Well, she's in love with Hamlet, and then her father's murdered, Hamlet fucks off; and she's left heartbroken, goes mad because of it , arguably–"
"I've taken tenth grade English, Miguel. I don't get what that has to do with anything."
"She drowns herself. Also arguably, to be fair," He chews his lip, thinking. "Slipped off the bark of a willow tree, into a brook. Incapable of her own distress, or something. Drowns. Do you know how horrible drowning feels? How violent? And yet–"
He taps the page, and you come a little closer. Beautiful. She's beautiful.
"I'll admit it, I'm not a big fan of Shakespeare. Gabi – my brother – is way better at this stuff than me. Drama and intrigue and–" He gestures vaguely. "– love . That's why he likes it, apparently. And I… I know someone who really liked this page; I think it was the colours, or the flowers…? She said it looked like a photo, and that the woman looked so pretty in the water."
He pauses, dead-eyed. He's rambling, only taking a breath to compose himself." I… didn't have the heart to tell her that Ophelia, in this painting, is dead. Dead as a fucking doornail. Dragged through still water, sentenced to death by her passivity and grief – but you wouldn't know it."
Unconsciously, you trace the outline of her hair with your finger; swirling locs that blend into muddy reflections. She's on her back and fully dressed; a beaded skirt billowing out into the water. On her back and looking up, like you were on the sofa just a moment ago. Oh. Oh . You blink at the image. Flowers, peppered around to frame Ophelia in her watery grave. It doesn't look like a grave from where you're sitting, but there's a body in the water all the same.
There's a lump in your throat. Grief; the loss of 4 years of your life in a middling relationship, the aftermath of dead eyes and brilliant blue slashed from a canvas frame. Grief, rising to the surface like a bloated carcass. You thought you'd bound its ankles to cinder blocks and tossed it in a river long ago.
"I'm probably overstepping. For that, I'm sorry, and I mean it. But I think there's something else. I..I hear you rattling around at night; and sometimes, when I look at you..."
Your eyes are glassy, tears threatening to spill over. You’re hearing him but you don’t quite understand. Does he know? God, does he know?
"...it reminds me of this painting. You remind me of Ophelia .”
He sighs, turning to you.
“I know how it feels. And I think this shit is going to kill you, if you're not careful."
~~~
He doesn't talk about it. He runs off to start the shower, bundles you into towels and leaves you reeling. God, it's like you've been shot – barely a 10 minute conversation and he's cracked open your ribs to root around in what's left of you. He sees you; wades through the undergrowth and cuts through the bulllshit - he sees you.
You couldn't even answer. That's what stings the most.
You’ve settled on the sofa, cross-legged and still fresh from the shower. There’s a documentary on the TV; mindless background to Miguel clattering in the kitchen. He’s putting together some leftovers, even though you insisted that you weren’t hungry, that you’ve already eaten. Well , he had pointed to the gunk caked onto your laptop, wasn’t that the problem in the first place?
He’s good at it; wraps you up in the blanket you always keep draped on the cushions, and hands you a full plate. Wordlessly, because you suppose he’s said everything he needed to. Dutifully, he takes care of you, without a word; the strain of cutting you open on the coffee table clearly too much to bear.
You thank him, and he settles on the armchair opposite, mug of coffee in hand. The gloom of the TV bathes him in light, cuts his cheekbones and jaw just so. One of your mugs in his lap, and he's in a thick knitted sweater. His hair kisses the tops of his lashes, but he brushes it away. You swallow thickly, and when he turns, you look away.
“...You okay?” He asks, confused.
You nod, unable to speak. He gives you a small smile, the corners of his eyes crinkled up like crepe paper. You return it with one of your own.
He sees you. Finally, you see him too.

This whole thing is feeling like Jim and Pam
Wanda Maximoff x Reader
Summary: you're in love with your best friend. She has a boyfriend.
A/N: If the title was enough for you to know what's this about, let me give you a hug :)
Words: 3231
Wanda was amazing.
You knew that very well.
She was kind, funny, talented, smart, friendly and beautiful.... Really, really, really beautiful.
She was your best friend. Since kindergarten you two were inseparable.
But only on the early months of high school you started to develop deeper feelings for her.
You'd spend hours thinking about her eyes. Ohh those green eyes you could get lost in. Found yourself daydreaming about her smile, her laugh, and the way her nose scrunch from time to time.
She was just perfect in every way.
But you didn't dare to tell her, too afraid that your feelings might not be reciprocated. You couldn't lose her. That was the last thing you wanted.
And to be honest, you felt like it wasn't necessary, she was your best friend, always caring and supportive, all the time by your side. Wanda was a lovely person, very affectionate with all the people around her. But specially with you, she was always very touchy, telling you beautiful things and making sure you were feeling okay.
And that worked for you. At least for two semesters.
Vision got transferred to your school on the third semester, and despite being a shy, quiet guy, he got all the attention by being the new kid. And also by being Tony Stark's cousin.
That semester you didn't shared many classes with Wanda (barely three). But Vision did. And of course, Wanda being the warm person she was, didn't hesitate on welcoming him to school.
That's how your nightmare begun.
After the first two weeks of interaction between them, everything Wanda talked about was Vision.
"Did you know Vision was home schooled his whole life?"
"He's also in the debate club now, we're both working together"
"He knows how to play the piano, he said he would teach me someday"
"Vision told me he spoke french, can you believe it?"
Vision this. Vision that. Uggh, you grew tired of listening to his name.
But being her best friend, it was normal for her to share that part of her life with you. And you were very good at hiding your distaste, because she never noticed it.
Four months later she stopped talking so often about him. Suddenly the talks about him ceased. You felt relieved to say the least. Even if you would ask about him, she'd change the subject almost immediately, barely answering to your questions.
You thought that whatever that was going on between them was over. So you didn't pushed any further, and stopped bringing him up.
But one week before the christmas break she dropped the bomb.
- I know I wasn't talking about Vision that much, or at least the way I always do. But now I have something important to tell you... The reasons behind this behavior it's that... We've been dating all this time.
Your smile faded that same instance.
- I know, I know, I should've told you since the beginning but he wanted to keep it private.
You nodded, still dumbfounded.
- Okay... - you said almost in a whisper - So, what changed, why are you telling me this now?
Your hands were shaking, and you could feel your heart skipping like crazy.
She smiled widely.
- Yesterday he asked me to be his girlfriend.
Oh no. No, no, no.
- And I said yes. He's my boyfriend now.
Did you hear that? It was the sound of your heart breaking.
The girl of your dreams, the love of your life was dating someone else.
You were in love with your best friend, but she had a boyfriend now.
- So what do you say Y/N? - she asked you.
You blinked a couple of times before returning your attention back to her.
- Amm...
What were you supposed to say?
"Please break up with him because I fell in love with you"
" That's not fair, I was in love with you first"
"I feel like vomiting"
No, you couldn't say that. You would never jeopardize her happiness.
So you put on your pants and faked a smiley face.
- I'm sorry, that was a lot of information to process, but I'm really happy for you Wands, I hope he makes you really happy.
She smiled and hugged you.
- Thank you Y/N, i was really nervous to tell you, but now I know everything is fine.
You hugged her back.
- Everything is fine - you replied.
Vision suddenly appeared after that and you congratulated him. Not missing the opportunity to warn him.
- You know Vision, I hope you make her really happy, treat her the way she deserves. And If I get to know that, somehow, she isn't happy, or that you made something stupid that hurt her, or if you directly break her heart... I will haunt you down, so you better take care of my bestie....
Both, Wanda and Vision laughed a little. They thought you were half joking, but deep down, you knew you meant it. You would never let someone hurt Wanda.
- I promise Y/N, i will treat Wanda as the princess she is - he said.
- Aww Vis...
She kissed his cheek and you knew you weren't ready to watch them.
- Eww, gross - you said - I better leave now, I don't wanna third wheel in here.
Again, they laughed. And again, you weren’t joking.
-Okay, see you later Y/N - Wanda said, hugging you one last time.
You bid your goodbyes and went straight home. That afternoon you cried your heart out for hours, basically until you fell asleep.
The first weeks were weird for you, Wanda never had any other boyfriends before, so this situation was new for the two of you. The dynamic changed, and even when she still made time for you, she was still in bliss with Vision, and would spend all the possible time with him.
As time passed, you noticed Vision kept up with his promise on treating her right. But if you were honest, you knew you would be a better partner for her.
Vision wasn't bad (not a total asshole, luckily), but from your perspective he was taking Wanda for granted. The way he treated her was normal, good, average.
And Wanda deserved much more than just average.
She deserved the whole world. You would put the universe at her feet if you could.
But Vision, that guy was doing the bare minimum. Wanda used to tell you everything about her relationship. Sometimes that was bad. Sometimes that was good.
You knew, first handed, that sometimes he ditched her to go out with his friends, even when they had agreed on a date. He would ask Wanda to go to her football games, but he didn't attend to her music recitals.
And yes, they were still kissing, and holding hands at school, going on dates. He was still giving her flowers, showing her off to everyone, proudly being her boyfriend.
And you trusted him enough to know he wouldn't cheat on her.
But still, you knew you could be better.
You would attend to each and every single one of her recitals, you would even wait for her at her rehearsals. Damm it, you did it. As her best friend you always waited for her after school. You took her home every afternoon, even if you had to go back to yours later.
You drove her to school every morning, patiently waiting for her to get ready. Vision said she always took too much time, so it was better to meet at school.
You would even go with her to walk her dog. She told you Vision wasn't "a dog person", so he didn't like touching her little dog.
Even Pietro, her twin brother, told you you were better for her one morning before leaving for school when you two were talking outside.
- I always thought you and my sister would end up together.
-What? - you asked, thinking you heard wrong - Why?
- Well, I thought you liked her, I mean, you have a really special bond, and I know she loves you too much... But maybe I was wrong.
You gulped, still freaking out.
- Yeah, maybe you were wrong.
He looked at you, analyzing you for a few seconds.
- But you know, high school relationships never last long... Perhaps, there's still a chance if you two take it.
Suddenly Wanda came out from the house and Pietro winked at you before leaving. He had a scholarship on a private school thanks to his athletic skills, that guy ran as fast as the light, so he didn't attend the same school as you and Wanda.
Under that circumstances high school years passed, and without even thinking about it, you were about to go to college.
Vision and Wanda had their ups and downs, but were still together.
And you were even more in love with her.
Everything was normal, although you noticed slightly changes in Wanda's behavior. She seemed a little less cheerful than before. But maybe that was just you.
You and Wanda always talked about going to NYU together. You also liked UCLA as well, but New York and Wanda sounded like a better idea.
Then she mentioned Vision was also thinking in NYU.
That made you second guess your decision, maybe UCLA was better for you. But no, you couldn't abandoned Wanda, she was happy that her best friend and her boyfriend would be with her.
You still had time to think about it though.
Prom got closer as the days went by, and you didn't know who you would ask to be your date.
You thought that, Wanda would go with Vision. But then she mentioned that his parents were hosting a dinner for him that same night, and that he asked her to be there.
- But you love prom, that's something you've been dreaming since freshman year... - you told her.
- I know, but he's my boyfriend Y/N, and it's a special night for him.
- It's a special night for you too Wands. Why don't you two come to the prom, and then you go to dinner the next day. The dinner can be any other day, but you can't move prom night...
- His parents settle the day, he didn't like the idea of coming anyways...
- But Wanda that's not fair.
- Well, I like the idea of spending that night with my boyfriend, so I'm happy about it too - she said, and you noticed an irritated tone in her voice.
- Are you sure?
- Yes Y/N, I'm sure, if you excuse me I need to go find Vision now.
She left you alone in the bench without saying goodbye.
From that day on things between you felt odd. But you were still picking her up for school and driving her home everyday.
Pietro told you he wasn't happy with his sister's decision on not attending to prom. But you already had gave up on that topic, so you just listened to him.
- By the way, who are you going with? Did you ask somebody? Or did somebody ask you?
You sighed.
- Well, your sister would've been my first choice if Vision didn't attend, but with this situation I don't know, maybe Kate Bishop, she's a really good friend too.
- Ohh, is Y/N going for something special with the archer girl?
- Oh stop it, she's just my friend, I like her but not that way.
- But you do like her...
- Pietro..
- Who do you like? - suddenly Wanda's voice interrupted you.
- Oh, no one, Pietro just like to tease.
- Yeah sure, I just like to tease...
You and him laughed, but Wanda seemed still confused.
- Whatever, let's go Wanda, it's gonna be late.
She went silent the whole way to school, and the moment you parked she just stepped out of the car and said thank to you. You didn't see her for the rest of the day.
That same week you prepared your promposal for Kate and asked her to be your date. She excitedly said yes, and hugged you in front of everyone watching.
In the afternoon, Wanda finally broke the silence on your way back home.
- So you and Kate huh?
- Amm yes, she's one of my closest friends and I wanted to be with someone I feel comfortable with the whole night.
- Hmm, that sounds nice, she's pretty and funny.
- I know, she's the perfect date.
- Why didn't you tell me before? That you were going to ask Kate.
You looked at her confused.
- Well, we haven't had talked that much this week, and I wasn't sure If I would do it until I just did it.
She nodded and looked through the window.
- I've been talking with Vision, about the prom situation and we decided to go to the prom, only for an hour or so, and then leave to have dinner with his parents.
- Oh, that's nice Wanda, it will be awesome to have you there.
- Yeah, that way I can go to prom and he gets his dinner. Everyone happy.
- Yep, everyone happy.
The awaited prom night finally came, you picked up Kate from her house, had nice pretty prom photos taken and had a lot of fun dancing and chatting with your friends.
Wanda and Vision were there as they promised, and since the moment Wanda stepped in the room you couldn't help but stared at her as if she was the only girl in the world.
Her beautiful black dress and her pinned hair did nothing but make her look even more beautiful (if that was possible).
Vision wasn't in the mood for dancing, so Wanda danced with you and your friends the whole time. You felt anger towards him. How could he do that to Wanda? You were dying for having a dance just with her and he wasn't even looking at her.
You felt crowded out of the sudden, so you excused yourself to Kate, telling her you needed to catch some air, and left the room.
Wanda noticed this and followed you right after.
You were standing in an empty hall when she found you.
- Are you okay Y/N? I saw you walking out of the room.
You were a little surprised to see she followed you. But answer with a little smile.
- Yes, I'm fine, it's just I needed some fresh air, it was getting a little bit crowded in there.
- Oh but are you alright? Are you feeling down?
- Oh no, I'm great, just needed some space. Why don't you go back? You were having fun.
- No, actually I was coming to say goodbye, Vision and I are leaving in a few minutes.
You frowned.
-Are you actually leaving? You're having so much fun in there.
- I know but I promised Vision to go to his dinner. Also his parents will be there, I can't cancel them last minute.
- Why not? He canceled you last minute like a thousand times, why can't you take one night to yourself? - you asked slightly annoyed. Wanda deserved to enjoy her prom night, and Vision was taking it away from her.
- Why are you bringing that up? - she asked, also annoyed - Just because he failed sometimes doesn't mean he's a bad person.
- I'm not saying he's a bad person, I'm saying he's a bad boyfriend.
- What? How can you say that? Have you been hating him this whole time?
At this point the both of you were raising your voice tone.
- Yes, I hate whenever he made you feel bad just because he didn't know how to treat you. And I hate that you always forgave him, never realizing that he doesn't deserve you Wanda. Damm it! He's even forcing you to leave your own prom night!
- Are you serious? I'm telling you I want to go, yes I'm having fun but... He needs me.
- I'm your best friend, I need you too, I wanted this to be a special night for us but now you only care about Vision. I tried to be nice to him, but now I like him less and less everytime.
- He doesn't like you either... - she said seriously.
- What?
- He doesn't like you either Y/N, he had always thought that you liked me, that you were in love with me.
Your heart was rushing, and a sudden blushed invaded your face.
- I told him he was wrong, we're only friends. But he never said something mean about you, why are you so against him?
You were still in shock.
- Y/N? Why do you dislike Vision so much?
Your mind was working too fast. He knew, he knew you liked his girlfriend. Maybe this was the proper time to come clean, to try your chance with her. Or maybe it wasn't. Your brain was having a several short-circuit, and before you even though about it, the words came out of your mouth.
- He's right - you said - I love you Wanda, I've been loving you for years.
Wanda could swear the world stopped moving for a second.
- What?
- He's right Wanda, I'm in love with you - you repeated - I'm really sorry if that's weird for you to hear but... And I know it's a really bad timing but I needed you to know.
She looked straight into your eyes, looking for any sign of that being a joke. But she only found your attentive gaze on her, waiting for an answer.
- Y/N... Why are you doing this? You know I... - she seemed nervous and shocked - I can't, he's there and...
- Don't leave Wanda, stay with me.
You saw she was processing everything. A little part of your soul hoped she would nod her head and kiss you, telling you she was in love you with too. But your realistic part took the hit sooner. She was stepping back.
- I'm sorry, I need to go, he's waiting for me.
- Wanda.... - you tried to stop her, but she turned around and started to walk away.
- I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong idea... That's probably my fault.
- It's not your fault - you said - I'm sorry if I messed things up, I'm so sorry.
She didn't hear that last part, as she was already out of your sight.
You stayed there in the empty hall for twenty minutes. You told everything to Kate and she suggested you to go back home. You didn't want to leave her all alone, but she assured you she would be okay with the rest of your friends so you gave in and left.
You were miserable.
She didn't love you.
She didn't choose you.
The next day she posted a picture of her and Vision at the prom and you knew there wasn't anything you could do.
That week you sent your application letter to the UCLA.
You needed to move on, and you definitely wouldn't apply to the same school as Wanda and her boyfriend.
She made a choice. And that wasn't you.
You had no future in New York.
You had no future with Wanda.
I know Pietro, she's great but, she's my best friend - Wanda said to her brother, tears dried all over her cheeks - I just never thought she would feel the same way. I didn't know what to say, I just wanted to run. Now I think it's all messed up, it's too late. There's nothing left to do. She probably hates me. But... I think I'm still in love with her.

Jenna Well, that scene at the desk where Jim comes really close to Pam. I remember when we were shooting this, that this is the first time that our characters had been in one another's intimate, personal space in a really long time.
Angela And not only was he in her sort of close proximity. But he was gentle. He kneeled down. He was next to her. He was being earnest. There was a connection between the two of them in that moment that we haven't seen in many episodes.
Jenna He was being Jim. He was being old Jim. All of the posturing of Athlead was gone, and he was being the guy that she fell in love with.
Angela That's right.
Jenna And it was very moving to me. And it was hard for me to not kind of melt in that moment as Pam, you know, because she's wanted this for a really long time. So this was a really fun scene to play. It had a lot of levels. And then it leads to the scene in the parking lot. Pam decides to run out and give Jim his umbrella.
Angela And he hugs her. And I wrote this to you, Jenna. We were trading texts. I said, Jim hugs Pam like she's the last life preserver on the Titanic. He grabbed on to her.
Jenna He does. And this is just such a beautiful scene. Pam is resistant at first, and he just will not let her go until she breaks down that wall. And she hugs him back and they kiss and they say, I love you.
Angela I teared up.
Jenna I know, and they have this flashback to their wedding of Jim's brother, you know, reading from Corinthians. And you know, that footage didn't exist. We had to bring Blake Robbins in and set up the church, just that one corner of the church. And he had to do that reading. We shot that just for this episode. All the other footage was footage that we already had from that episode. But this was really beautiful. You know, we had a fan question from Marie R in Omaha, Nebraska, who said, In the last scene where Jim and Pam hug and then kiss and remember their wedding, I noticed that it was in the parking lot where Jim first professed his love for Pam on Casino night. Was this intentional or just a coincidence? Marie. This was intentional. It's there. It's happening in the same spot. This is such a wonderful book ends for their story. Kind of the first moment that Jim said, I'm in love with you. And then here in the parking lot again to save the marriage. It's just really beautiful writing.
Angela Yeah.
Jenna And we talked about this too, Angela. You see in that moment, the way John Krasinski, as Jim swoops down to get to Pam's level for that hug. That is a classic John Krasinski hugging move. We've talked about this before. He gives the best hugs.
Angela He gives such great hugs. He is just like that cozy blanket that makes you feel better.
Jenna I know.
Angela I just love now that he's a dad and has little girls because I know he hugs them like that, you know?
Jenna I know! I thought the same thing!
Angela That's the hug you want. That's the hug that makes everything feel like it's going to be okay.
Jenna Yes. And it is that kind of hug. When he gives you a hug, it is like, oh my gosh, what was that bad day that I was having? Everything is going to be fine.

“Hello?” Jazz’s greeting is hurried, but Danny lets his eyes fall closed. His core thrums at the sound of her voice. “Who is this?”
“Hey, Prof.”
“Da–uh–uh–you!” Smooth, Jazz. Really smooth. “Don’t call me that.” There’s no bite in the admonishment. “Can you…talk?”
Are you safe? “I’m at a payphone, but no one is around.” Nothing too incriminating over the phone, please.
“How are you doing?”
It’s good to hear her voice. “I’m pretty good. Working, making friends. Looking into…things.”
Jazz growls on the other end of the line, code for I want to bother you about that but I can’t. Danny is fluent in Jazz-speak.
“Yeah, yeah, keep your pants on. Nothing to worry about. My friends are watching out for me.” It might be stretching Pam’s involvement slightly, but Jazz doesn’t need to worry about things she can’t fix. “I wanted to–talk.”
I miss you. He’s too nervous to say it over the phone, just in case. What if the phone call is tracked? What if the GIW are moving toward him already? He didn’t have as much time to fly as he did last time he called, but he’s still in a different direction from Gotham. Even if they head this way, they still won’t find him.
“I’m glad you called,” Jazz says, voice going soft. I miss you, too. “Things are okay here. Summer is going to be over soon. Do you know what you’re going to do then?”
“Not yet. I’ll probably give it a few more weeks, see how work is going.” If the GIW finally back down, Danny will be fine to go home. Just as long as the arrival of one Danny Fenton doesn’t coincide with ghost attacks again. Sure, his enemies don’t attack nearly as often now, or are in the tenuous frenemies category, but Fenton luck is terrible.
The conversation continues; inane things like what Jazz has been doing for the summer and small, heavily edited stories from Danny. I got a plant, I made new friends, I’ve taken up biking. A nugget of truth in each of them, but not the whole story. The secrecy chafes at him.
Danny might be nearly 17, but he’s still a teenager. He shouldn’t have to be juggling secret identities, covert phone calls, and government organizations. He certainly shouldn’t be trying to subtly take down villains of a town he doesn’t even belong to.

you've got a smile that could light up this whole town (2)
wanda maximoff x fem!reader
part two of 'you belong with me' series
summary: basically a wanda series inspired by jim and pam from the office
word count: 3868
warnings: sexual harassment in the workplace, talks of sexism and racism, small mention of blood in a joking setting
part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5 part 6 part 7 part 8 part 9
“That’s the thing. It’s very sturdy paper,” you speak to the client on the phone. “And on the back it says 100% post-consumer content.”
You’re on the phone with Mr. Deckerd, the CEO of one of your biggest clients who amounts to about 25% of your commission for the whole year. Wanda makes fun of you for buying a mini bottle of champagne every time you make a sale to him and his company, but you can’t help but celebrate a little. This year, you’re pushing recycled paper on them for about 1% more, so maybe you’ll buy a medium-sized bottle of champagne if you make the sale.
Suddenly, you hear a static noise in your ear. “Hello?” you ask, wondering if your client is still there. You plug the ear that isn’t touching the phone to hear Mr. Deckerd better, but the static sound continues. “I’m sorry, Mr. Deckerd I think I’m losing-”
But then you can’t hear anything because your stupid desk neighbor is shredding his papers at his desk.
“Hello? Hello?” But you can’t hear anything because of the stupid shredder. “Hold on one second,” you reassure your customer, even though you have no idea if he’s still there.
“Sam! Do you really have to do that right now?” you yell over the shredder.
“Yes, I do,” he responds, barely paying you any attention. “I should’ve done this weeks ago, actually.”
You flip him off under your desk.
“Mr. Deckerd, I'm really sorry,” you speak on the phone. “What were you-”
You still can’t hear anything, and it makes you give Sam an annoyed expression. “Can you give me one second?” you tell Mr. Deckerd on the phone in your fake nice sales voice. “Yeah, just one second. Thanks.”
You press the off button on Sam’s shredder with your pointer finger, and he narrows his eyes at you.
You shrug back in response.
“Hello? Oh, that’s it. Perfect,” you let Mr. Deckerd know. “So, what I was saying-”
Sam hangs up the phone for you by pushing a button on the docking port and you want to slap him in the face.
“Hello?” when you hear nothing but the dial tone, you set the phone down and run your hands over your face. “Thanks a lot, Sam.”
“Retaliation, Y/N. Tit for tit.”
“That’s not the expression.”
“Well, it should be.”
Now you want to punch Sam instead.
“Solitaire?” you ask Wanda, popping a jelly bean from the candy dish at her desk into your mouth and leaning over it to peek at her computer screen.
“Yeah, freecell,” she tells you, brows furrowing in focus at the game.
“Six on seven,” you point to the digital cards.
“I know I saw that,” she nods.
“So, why didn’t you do it?” you ask.
“I’m saving that,” she gives a shy smile, “cause I like it when the cards go…” she imitates the shuffling cards.
“Who doesn’t love that?” you shrug, smiling at her.
She giggles in response, and you help her win the rest of the game.
Tony comes out of his office. “Everyone in the conference room,” he announces. “Diversity day seminar.”
Everyone gets out of their desk to go meet in the room, but you stay on the phone in order to make the sale to Mr. Deckerd.
“Y/N,” Tony states. “Wrap it up.”
“Yeah,” you nod. “Uh, Mr. Deckerd-”
“L/N, hurry up, please.”
“Uh, Mr. Deckerd, I'm actually going to have to call you back,” Damn it, you were so close. “Thank you, sorry about that.” You hang up the phone.
Wanda meets your stride as you both walk in together and she wraps her hand around your elbow absentmindedly.
The two of you usually sit together, but unfortunately, you were both the last to walk in due to your phone call so you both take a seat on opposite sides of Thor.
Once you sit down a man from corporate hands you a blank card for you to fill out by writing down a work-related incident you found offensive, and you and Wanda look at each other, knowing exactly what incident you were both going to write.
A couple weeks ago, the head of corporate, Thaddeus Ross had made disgusting remarks and had acted completely sexist and racist to every single female or ethnic worker in the office. He had reduced every single person to just their ethnicity or sex and had made incredibly vulgar remarks that you didn’t want to think about again because of how offensive they were. In fact, they were so ugly that those who had taken the worst of his comments didn’t come into the office for the next 2 days because of how violated they felt.
You bite your tongue as you remember the lewd comments he had made about Wanda that day.
“Wanda’s really easy on the eyes, don’t you think?” he had whispered to you, his coffee breath making you want to push him as far away as possible. “I bet she’d make way more money on her knees rather than behind that desk…”
You had frozen in your seat, shocked at the words Ross uttered out of his mouth. You were about to reprimand him and let him know how inappropriate his comments were, but you didn’t get the chance because he got called over by Tony right after uttering those awful words. So instead, once he was gone from your sight, you had immediately stood up and gone over to Wanda at her desk while she was faxing documents Bruce had given her to let her know about the disgusting comments Ross had made.
Wanda’s expression had hardened once you told her, and she had taken many deep breaths to reel in her emotions. “Thank you for telling me,” she had breathed out. “Honestly, I’m not surprised with the amount of times he’s cheated on his wife,” she had told you with a weak smile. Ross always confided in Wanda about his affairs for some reason, and he gave her a copious amount of detail about his nights spent in bed with other women.
You had watched her brave resolve crumble as she played with the rings on her fingers, a nervous tick of hers, and it made you see right through her act. “Are you alright?”
“Yeah, I'm ok,” she had told you, “But I’m never staying within six feet of him again for safety reasons,” she gave a shaky laugh.
For the rest of the morning, you were able to tell that she was still rattled, with the way she kept zoning out while doing her work and kept playing with her rings and biting her nails.
So, you decided to do something nice for her to calm her down. During your lunch break, you had gone out to buy all of Wanda’s favorite things. Initially, you had told Vision to do it after letting him know about the incident while he was working down in the warehouse, but all he had responded with was that he was busy and would check on Wanda when he had the chance.
You knew of his busy schedule, so instead, you thought it would be good to go yourself, and it ended up being so worth it.
That day, you had bought Wanda chicken paprikash from her favorite restaurant, many packages of the obscure Sokovian candy she really likes, a pocket-sized package of her favorite book series because she was a sucker for miniature items, her favorite perfume because you could tell she was running low based on the way it was becoming less and less strong as the days passed by, a box of chocolates just because, and a mini disco ball, which you bought as a joke hoping it would put the smile back on her face.
You had definitely gone overboard based on how your bank had called you that day because of how much money you spent, but Wanda didn’t need to know that.
Plus, you didn’t really care because, well, it was Wanda.
“Hey, Wands,” you had gone up to her at the end of the day with a plastic bag in your hand.
Which to Wanda by the looks of it, seemed very heavy.
“Hi, Y/N,” she had greeted you back softly from her chair. “What’s in the bag?”
You smiled as you pulled out the mini disco ball, pressing the button so it lit up and placing it on the ledge of her desk.
“For you,” you had told her, “so every day is a party,” you joked.
Wanda had picked up the disco ball between her fingers, “you bought this just for the sake of making that joke,” she had answered back with a grin.
And the disco ball had worked just as you wanted it to, because she had smiled again for the first time that day.
You shrugged. “Maybe, but it did make you laugh, Maximoff.”
“Smiling isn’t laughing Y/N,” she said cheekily. Before you could respond she asked, “What’s in the rest of the bag? It’s definitely not that heavy with just a tiny disco ball inside.”
You slowly pulled out each of the items one by one, making sure to keep the mystery for as long as possible. And it was so worth it, because with every item you pulled out Wanda’s smile widened more and more.
“Wow…” Wanda trailed off, slowly dragging her index finger over each item as if they were made of glass, until her finger stopped at the candy. “Y/N! They only sell these at that store 40 minutes from here!” her eyes gleamed with worry as she looked at you since there was a snowstorm that day too.
“30 minutes,” you corrected, “and it was nothing, Wanda, honestly. This is supposed to be kind of like a ‘Ross Sucks’ fund. You were shaken up, so I wanted to do something nice for you.”
Wanda had pushed her tongue against her cheek as she watched you with tears in her eyes. She made her way around her desk until she was in front of you, and had hugged you as tight as possible. “Thank you,” she had whispered while squeezing you as tight as she could.
As she pulled away a couple moments later, she had kissed your cheek and gave you a soft look while whispering the words, “I’m really glad I have you as my best friend.”
It was the best gift anyone had ever given her. Somehow, you had singlehandedly turned Wanda’s awful day into one that would bring a smile to her face for the rest of her life.
The next day, the mini books and disco ball had ended up displayed at Wanda’s receptionist's desk, and Wanda had given you a cheeky smile while popping a candy into her mouth.
The man from corporate took each of your papers back with a small thank you, eventually creating a large stack.
“Alright, so I’m here today to talk about diversity,” the man began. “It has come to my attention that a recent issue from an anonymous source has made you all very uncomfortable, so I was called here. We are all still unaware of who made the offensive comments we have heard of, so corporate thought it would be best to put all of the Shield Industry branches through this seminar to be safe. Let’s get started.”
You started zoning out in worry at losing your biggest client, since Tony had made you hang up the phone due to his lack of patience when it came to being late to an event. After this morning’s exchange with Sam, you hoped he would continue to remain with you as his salesperson.
You didn’t even notice that you had stopped paying attention until Wanda tapped your shoulder to whisper about how the man from corporate looked a lot like Dracula from Hotel Transylvania, and you responded that you should test if he’s really a vampire by putting blood in Sam’s bag so he’s the first to go.
You don’t know how much time has passed until suddenly, Tony’s voice brings your attention back to the meeting. “Hey man, I’m sorry, but you need to leave.”
“What?” The man whose name you still don’t know responds.
Long story short, Tony kicked out the man and forced you all to get back to work simply because he didn’t like his face.
“Uh, hi, is Mr. Deckerd around?” you spoke on the phone. “Oh, well, could you just have him call me after lunch? Thank you.”
You ran your hands over your face in stress, god, you really hoped you didn’t lose your biggest client.
“Attention, everyone!” Tony yelled out stepping out from his office. “The replacement seminar corporate is making us go through will occur immediately after lunch, so don’t be late!” he stepped back into his office.
You’re too anxious to eat anything, so you spend your lunch break playing solitaire with Wanda while she eats the sandwich she packed this morning, since she usually spends it answering calls anyway. It’s the perfect pass-time because you’re still near the phone in case Mr. Deckerd calls, and she’s excellent at distracting you and making your worries fade away.
The last ten minutes of your break are spent at your desk staring at your phone, the busy tone ringing out suddenly seeming like it's mocking you.
Around 1 pm, a tall short-haired lady walks in, “Hi, I’m here to lead the diversity seminar?” you hear her introduce herself to Wanda at the front of the office.
Wanda stood up to shake her hand. “Welcome, I’m Wanda. I’ll let Tony know you’re here.”
She ran into Tony’s office to inform him of the woman at the front, and from your point of view, you could tell that this new woman was attracted to Wanda based on the way she was staring at her from behind.
“Everybody in the conference room!” Tony yelled out as he stepped out of his office, leading the orange-haired woman corporate hired in the direction of the room.
Thankfully, this time, you and Wanda walked in a little earlier so you could sit next to each other at the back.
Wanda had a clipboard in her hands to take notes as part of her job as a receptionist, and while she wasn’t looking, you drew a small smiley face at the corner of her page, a long-time tradition since you first joined the office a year after her.
“Alright, now that everybody’s settled in, hi, my name’s Pepper, and I’m here to lead the diversity seminar after this morning’s complications,” the lady said, giving Tony a look. “To start off, what can you tell me about diversity?”
Sam raises his hand. “It means having a diverse background.”
“Yes, very good. Anybody else?”
“It means being inclusive to people of all race,” Bruce answers.
While Nat is answering, Wanda notices the small smiley face at the corner of her page and smiles softly.
“What about you, hon?” Pepper asks Wanda while she’s lost in thought.
Wanda’s head snaps up, “Sorry?” she clarifies.
“What do you think about diversity?”
Wanda pauses to think for a moment, “I think it’s acceptance of people of different background that’s not only limited to race but also gender, economic status, age, social class, and sexual orientation.”
“Wow, impressive,” Pepper smirks, staring Wanda down like she’s almost a piece of meat.
Wanda’s eyes widen and she shifts uncomfortably under Pepper’s stare, as she feels incredibly objectified once again.
“Nerd,” Sam coughs into his fist.
But Wanda can’t focus on Sam’s comment, because for some reason Pepper’s gaze is starting to remind her a lot of the way Vision looks at her.
But it’s probably nothing, it’s probably just that he’s attracted to her because they’re engaged.
Pepper’s seminar goes on for another 30 minutes, and while she’s discussing an acronym called HERO, you hear the phone ring.
You don’t mean to be rude, but you’re so anxious you’re going to lose the sale you sprint out of the conference room to answer the phone.
“Hello? Hello?” you answer, but you get no response. You tap your foot nervously on the ground and hang up the phone, running your hands over your face.
You really hope Mr. Deckerd answers soon.
Back in the conference room, Wanda still feels Pepper’s gaze on her and it makes her increasingly uncomfortable. The way Pepper was eyeing her like she was her prey to devour mercilessly made her feel so awfully degraded, like she was just an attractive object to be used and not another person. It made her want to jump out of her seat and run away as far as possible, or at least to you, since you were her best friend after all and you could calm her down with just a touch.
But Wanda calms down when you walk back in and take your seat next to her, giving her your infamous smile despite the way she can tell you’re stressed due to your stiff posture, and it fills her heart with warmth.
Pepper is still on the same slide as when you left, so you don’t think you missed much.
“Diversity, equity, and inclusion are the three factors needed in running an office that feels safe to people of all background,” Pepper continues and you can tell that everyone is starting to get sick of the seminar.
“How much did I miss?” you whisper in Wanda’s ear.
“Barely anything,” she whispers back, and Wanda feels her nerves settling. “She’s been repeating the same thing in different ways for the past 5 minutes.”
You let out a small laugh.
And Wanda does too.
And you both try your best to suppress your laughter for the next two minutes.
You sit there for a while trying your best to listen to Pepper’s speech, but it proves to be an incredibly hard struggle because her presentation voice is ridiculously robotic.
“Excuse me, Pepper,” Sam states.
“Yes?”
“What’s diversity again?”
God, this was going to be a long seminar.
You were in the middle of zoning out for the third time when the phone rang, causing you to spring out of your seat and sprint out to answer it.
“Mr. Deckerd!” you greet into the phone the second you get in your chair. “We didn’t lose your sale today, did we?” you chuckle. “Excellent! Okay..” you pull out a pen. “Let me just get your– What’s that? No, we didn’t, we didn’t close last time,” your brows furrow in confusion.
“I just need your, uh–Oh! What code were you given?” you’re still confused. “Oh, okay. Yeah, no, he’s actually another salesman here.” Oh, now you realize what’s happened. “Yeah, I can redo it if you want to do that. He gave you a discount?” Well played. “No, no worries, I don’t blame you,” you reassure him. “Okay, thanks, have a great day, Mr. Deckerd, it was nice speaking to you.”
You slowly place the phone back onto its docking port, sighing, and putting your head in your arms on the table.
It was official.
Sam had stolen your biggest client.
You walk back into the conference room with your hands in your pocket, noticing that Pepper is coming to the end of her presentation.
You sit down, thinking about how you hope that Sam enjoys the mini champagne you left on his desk.
Then, all of a sudden, you feel a soft weight on your right shoulder, causing you to snap out of your thoughts, and the scent of your favorite vanilla perfume fills your senses.
You turn your head to take a closer look at her, and once you see her face, a huge smile breaks out across your own.
Wanda Maximoff has fallen asleep on your shoulder.
And it’s the cutest thing you’ve ever seen.
Her features are soft and relaxed, devoid of all the stress the office usually brings her, and Wanda’s delicate beauty is completely on display for you to see. She looks ethereal, as if she’s been crafted piece by piece by every single goddess to ever exist.
You stare at her for what feels like an eternity, and she seems so soft and so Wanda that it feels like a small delicate butterfly has landed on you, and you never want her to go away.
The smile doesn’t leave your face as you do your best to sit as still as possible for the next few minutes in order to avoid waking Wanda up while Pepper wraps up her speech.
“All right, everyone, it’s after 5, so you’re all dismissed,” Pepper announces once her presentation comes to a close. “Hope you learned something today.”
Slowly, everyone makes their way out, and you hear their soft muttering about how the seminar was completely useless as you watch them from your seat, careful not to disturb the brunette angel sleeping soundly on your shoulder.
“I didn’t know you two were together,” Pepper says once everyone has left, packing up her bag.
“Hm?” you ask.
“You and Wanda,” she points to you and the receptionist. “She seems very nice, you’re quite lucky.”
“Oh!” you laugh. “No, Wanda and I aren’t dating. She’s engaged,” you clarify. “And yes, she’s wonderful.”
Pepper laughs, “Oh, good to know. Sorry for assuming, she just seems very fond of you.”
“No worries,” you reassure her, “I’m very fond of her too. She’s my closest friend,” you say, giving a small smile.
“Well, I wish you two the best. Have a good day, Y/N,” she waves goodbye to you. “And tell Wanda I’m sorry for making her uncomfortable during the seminar, I recently got out of a breakup and was looking for a distraction and she was the first thing I saw, but it was wrong of me,” she admits.
You frown. “I’m very sorry to hear that,” you respond. “Thank you for letting me know, I hope things get better for you soon.”
Pepper smiles and nods, heading out the door.
As she walks out of the office she can see you staring through the window of the conference room, and she knows that Wanda’s not just a close friend to you.
You and Wanda are left alone together, and you give her one last soft look before deciding to finally wake her up.
“Hey,” you whisper causing Wanda to begin to stir.
“Hm?” she asks groggily, rubbing her eyes, slowly coming back to her senses. "Oh,” she quietly murmurs, slowly blushing as she realizes she fell asleep on your shoulder and lifting her head off.
“We can go now,” you let her know with a small chuckle.
“Yeah, um, sorry,” she mumbles apologetically, getting up from her chair and grabbing her clipboard.
“That’s okay,” you let her know with a soft laugh.
“Um, I'll talk to you later,” she says shyly, walking out.
“Yeah, talk to you later,” you agree, following her with a smile still on your face as you look at your shoes.
And as you pack your bags, the phone at your desk where you lost your best client only a foot away, suddenly, it’s not a bad day anymore.

*ੈ✩‧₊˚༺𝓑𝓻𝓪𝓭༻*ੈ✩‧₊˚
Platonic:
Coworker:
🍨 Brad has to get feels someone's vibe before fully introducing himself, to which he thought you were chill and he liked that
🍨 From now on you guys are besties even outside of work you guys hang out
🍨 You guys playfully bicker all the time almost like him and Nichole but you were nicer to him about it (cough cough not changing his name on the system to dickface)
🍨 please let this man rant about how annoying Terry, Tim, or Nichole is during yalls breaks
🍨 You’re guys friendship is one of the only good things in that horrible place
Customer:
🍽️ Again like the first thing I said he needs to get to know your vibe, if he likes your energy then he'll tell you his name.
🍽️ In order for you guys to be friends you need to be a regular (Your poor wallet)
🍽️ Amber always makes sure to seat you in his section, one time thought in the very beginning or y'all's friendship Amber had seated you in Nichole’s section, he questions you so much on how you could even be friends with him (in more of teasing and playful way, but still comes off as rude) just to get under his skin
🍽️ Appreciates seeing you, again makes this job a little more bearable
Romantic🌹:
Coworker:
🍰 Just like the platonic part that could be how you guys first started off. Until he noticed how much happy he felt when you'd be working the same shift and or hours as him.
🍰 Highlight of this sassy man's day
🍰 Nichole of course noticed it first, she would not stop giving him shit for a week.
🍰 Eventually the kitchen caught wind of this and they would tease both of you when you guys were near each other, confusing you in the process
🍰 Bridgette and Aaron find out from pickles and that's where it all went down hill.. of course Aaron is the one who slips it by accident to you… Infront of Brad
🍰 Brad was pissed but didn't know what to say, he wasn't a baby of course but bro was actually too stunned to speak, Nichole started to laugh ngl
🍰 Let's just say Terry gave you guys a lecture about leaving “personal feelings at home”
🍰 You guys talked about it after work it went great. You guys started dating and you both got shit from Nichole (I love her guys)
🍰 Now more into the headcanons part, let thisan rant about his day please, he cannot take it anymore he might lose it
🍰 Tim teases the shit out of both of you, while Pam is super sweet and always complementing you guys
🍰 Don't listen to Terry he's just a sad sad hater
🍰 The kitchen guys always tell Brad what a lucky guy he is to be dating someone as beautiful/handsome as you
Customer:
🍷 Again you gotta be a regular
🍷 Give this man a big tip, your have his heart!/j
🍷 But fr tho, be nice to the guy he's gotta deal with this red necks and rudeass customers
🍷 Over time he'll just love the company you give him, tells (begs) Amber to seat you always in his section

Paperback Writer
Bradley Bradshaw x Reader
Summary: When Bradley finds a stray journal at the Hard Deck, he makes it his personal mission to return it to its owner. But not before reading what's inside.
Word Count: 2.4k
Top Gun Masterlist
You've spent the last four hours at this bar and still haven't come up with a thing. The newest page in your notebook stares back at you, entirely blank. Well, blank, save for the water ring your mojito has left on it. Only the ice cubes have been left for a while now, and you sip sadly at them as you stare off at the water. Maybe a beach day will inspire you.
Sighing, you close your notebook and push it toward the wall. You don't want to think about the deadline that is slowly closing in on you. A new book, and only about two months left to complete it. It had been three, but you've spent the last month at a complete loss.
This whole night, going to dinner, going to a bar, has been with the intention of finding inspiration. You still haven't found it, so now it's time to find your way home. Pushing yourself away from the table, you peel yourself from your chair and settle up with the nice lady at the bar.
You look out at the ocean again on your walk home. It's extremely nice of your agent to let you stay at her and her wife's beach home. Pam had granted you this accommodation in the hopes it would kickstart your writing. To the extent of her knowledge, it has. She's been worried about you after you argued with the publishing company over a sequel. You fought tooth and nail for the opportunity to work on something totally new. After the commercial success of your debut novel, however, they were reluctant to pass up their chance at a sequel.
Your publishing company clearly hadn't been expecting such an exorbitant amount of copies to sell. Frankly, neither had you. By some stroke of luck or divine intervention, Taylor Swift picked up your book, read it, and posted it on her Instagram story. Stores could hardly keep it on shelves after that.
Now your publishers are simply hoping to milk the cash cow. You can't really blame them, but soon, when you don't have a second novel to give them, they're going to blame you.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
"Thanks for cleaning up, you two," Penny calls from behind the bar. Maverick had practically begged Bradley to stay and help so that he and Penny could start their date early. After some negotiating, he happily acquiesced.
"No problem, Penny," Rooster calls back, sending a smug look at Pete, who narrows his eyes at him. They're just about finished wiping tables, and he can tell Mav is more than ready to leave.
Bradley turns to wipe the last table but stops when he sees a leather-bound journal sitting near the window. He picks it up, turning it over in his hands.
"Done. Let's go, Pen," Mav says, rushing his girlfriend. Penny finally drops the rag she'd been wiping the bar with.
"I've still gotta lock up," she says, lightly mocking.
"I can do it, Penny," Rooster says, not taking his eyes off the journal.
"Thanks, kid," Mav smiles, whisking his girlfriend away. "Keys are on the bar. I owe you one!"
Bradley just barely hears Penny's protests as Pete rushes her out. He figures he'd better get home, himself. Giving the table a cursory wipe, he heads toward the bar to grab the keys.
Suddenly his eyes land on the lost and found bucket. Most of the Hard Deck's patrons are locals and regulars. The bin is almost always empty, and when it isn't, people always come back for whatever's inside.
Bradley looks at the journal again. Surely no one would be coming back for this tonight, though. And would they really notice if it had been flicked through? Letting his curiosity get the best of him, Bradley takes a stool at the bar and starts reading.
After a few pages, he starts to realize just what the journal is. It's no diary, none of the juicy details of someone's personal life that he had nosily been hoping for. No. It's a book, or some sort of story, at least. It's a good one, too. Bradley takes a sidelong glance at the clock and finds he's stayed for an hour longer than he intended.
He grabs the keys and locks everything up for Penny, not bothering to put his find in the lost and found.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Bradley can’t remember when he’d fallen asleep, but he's certain that it wasn’t before he’d read the vast majority of the journal. His neck is stiff from crashing on his couch, but he has a new interest in finding whoever wrote this.
He hasn't been that interested in a book in a while, and he'd be remiss if the author doesn't get their work back. Especially when the work is so incredible. Bradley's never considered himself the most avid reader. He only reads when he's got the time and wouldn't rather be watching the game. This book, however, has him hooked. He thinks it should be on shelves, selling out all over the world. He only needs to find this person to tell them that.
Where do people write their names in their journals?
He makes a face, confronted by his own stupidity, and flips to the front page. Sure enough, on the back of the cover is a woman's name and address. Bradley's not quite sure if people knock on each other's doors nowadays, or if that's entirely creepy, but he's willing to find out.
Once his fist is inches away from her door, Bradley hesitates before knocking. Is it creepy that he's here? Is it creepy that he read the journal? He's willing to admit that one. Should he tell the author he read it at all? Maybe he should pretend he didn't. Can he fake being a Good Samaritan when he really wants to ask this woman about her writing? He doesn't have time to answer these questions for himself before the door swings open on its own.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
You recoil when you realize someone's standing on the front porch. "Hello?" You're certain you don't know this man. He's too pretty for you to know him, and you'd at least remember him if you did.
"Hi," he responds stiltedly.
You look at him questioningly, "can I help you?"
"Yes! Actually," he holds up your journal, "is this yours?"
"Oh my god," you snatch your notebook out of his hands, "Where'd you find it?"
"You must've left it at the bar last night," he shrugged.
"Well, thanks," you smile, putting it in your tote bag.
"No problem, yeah. Wouldn't want to lose all that work," he nods. You look up suddenly.
"You read it?"
The man grimaces when he realizes he's outed himself. "Sorry," he cringes, "I'm too nosy for my own good. But can I just say that this is incredible? Really! This could be a book!"
Your face falls, and you look at him blankly, "it is."
"No!" He shakes his head. "I mean- well, yes, it is. And that's a great attitude to have, but what I'm trying to say is that you need to find a publisher. This is-"
You roll your eyes, shaking your head. Reaching into your giant beach bag, you grab your sunglasses and shove them onto your face. Stepping out onto the porch, you grab a real copy of your book from your bag and plop it in his hands. "That’s really not my problem right now, hot stuff. Have a good one,” you lock up your house and start walking towards the beach.
He doesn't follow you until a few seconds later.
"You mean you're already a published author?" You hear from behind you. You roll your eyes and keep walking, but he easily catches up. "What I read was just-"
"The prototype to what seven million American women have already consumed? Yeah," you nod.
"Holy shit!" He says, and you just hum in agreement. "So wait, what is your problem then?" You stop in the middle of the path. You haven't even said it out loud yet.
"They want another one," you admit quietly.
"That's great!" He says excitedly. You slowly turn and remove your sunglasses to level him with a glare, "...or not?"
"No, stranger, it's not great."
"I'm Bradley," he interrupts.
You barrel on, "You know when they want the sequel by?" Bradley shakes his head. "The end of next month!" You practically shout, and he cringes.
"And how much do you have done?"
Your face falls. "One," you say reluctantly, holding up a solitary finger.
"Chapter?" He asks hopefully.
"Word!"
Bradley grimaces, "What's the word?" You huff.
"'The' and the thing is, I don't even like it. I'm gonna go back and delete it." You give an exaggerated shrug, seemingly distraught.
"That's probably a bad idea," he says gently.
"Oh? And what do you know about writing novels?" Your tone is biting.
"Not a damn thing, but I know a thing or two about speed. At a certain point, you just have to keep going," he offers.
"Thank you for that wisdom, speed racer," you snap, sauntering away.
He stands there stunned.
“Wait!" Bradley jogs to catch up to where you're still marching onto the beach.
As soon as he's next to you, you barrel on. “How am I supposed to give them a sequel to a story I thought was over?”
“Huh?” He feels like he's still playing catch-up as he matches your pace.
“And I told them - I swore to God that if they made me write a sequel, I'd probably end up accidentally plagiarizing any given Remington Steele episode. But, nooooooo they insisted,” you vent.
“Remington Steele?” Bradley raises a brow.
“Okay, you don’t get to judge my 80s preferences when you look like that!” You gesture to his general appearance, Hawaiian shirt, porn stache, and all. Not that it's not working for you.
He holds his hands up in surrender.
"I've done everything. Really. Everything to try and inspire some writing. I go outside," you gesture to the outdoors around you. "I've switched the font on my computer to comic sans," Bradley visibly grimaces in response to this, and you nod at him. "Hell, yesterday I went on a run."
"I don't feel like that's all that abnormal," he ventures.
You look at him, stricken, "I've never been on a run."
"Never?"
"Not in my life," you confirm. "It didn't even help, and now my legs hurt."
"It does kind of seem like you're hobbling," he nods.
Your eyes widen, "Gee, thanks," you bite out.
"You can probably chalk it up to poor form," Bradley tries to console you. "You're supposed to land on the front of your foot when you're running."
You shake your head. "They always want to teach you something," you mumble.
"What was that?" He looks over innocently. The two of you stand at the entryway to the beach. You decide it's time to make your goodbyes to the near stranger you've confessed half your current life problems to.
"Look, that's very nice of you," your words lack some sincerity. "You seem like a nice guy, and you're very attractive, but I don't really want to get better at running. What I want is to get better at writing, which is my job, and usually, I can do it. But right now, I'm broken, so what I will do is lay in the sun and crisp like a piece of fried chicken. Bye, now!" You say cheerily, placing your sunglasses over your eyes and bounding away towards an appealing-looking plot of sand.
All Bradley can do is watch as his new favorite author walks off. He drives home and finishes the official, hand-gifted copy of your book in one sitting.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
A week later, Bradley is once again at the Hard Deck. This time it's Mav's birthday, and the whole squad is celebrating before they all go their separate ways. The Navy gave everyone a month off after the Uranium mission, so this is simultaneously a celebration and a goodbye.
He steps out onto the deck to enjoy the ocean view. Bradley is pleased to find a familiar figure that lies a few meters away from the bar.
"Let me guess, you're crisping like a piece of chicken again?" You hear a voice call from above you. Suspicious of the intrusion on your private beach sulking session, you look up to find the handsome man who'd tried to return your journal the other day.
"Actually, I'm boiling like a lobster," you correct.
"Ah, my mistake," Bradley nods sagely. "Mind if I sit?"
"Okay..." you agree, silently questioning his motives.
"I had an idea," he starts. "The main character in the first book," you nod, encouraging him to continue. "You mentioned her younger sister."
"I did," you agree, not understanding where he's going with this.
"Write the new book about her," Bradley says simply, shrugging.
You stare at him for a moment, processing this thought. After a bit, your jaw drops. How did you not think of this yourself? A slew of ideas pop into your brain, and you lunge for your bag, hoping to grab your journal and write them all down.
"Are you okay?" He asks. You hold up a finger, silently asking for him to give you a second. In a hurry, you scribble down a giant bulleted list. You can't help but wish your hand moved as fast as your brain. Bradley gives a weak call of your name, concerned by the new burst of hyperactivity. It pulls your attention away from the final bullet point you've just made.
"I think you're a genius," you breathe out, looking at him in awe.
He seems shocked, "it was just an idea."
"No, no," you remain firm, "you're brilliant, and you've just saved my life." A grin pulls across his face at your words. "Pam is gonna be so stoked," you say, standing and starting to pack your things. You pause all of a sudden and reach for your notebook again. You scribble something else and tear out a sliver of paper.
You hand it over to him, and his gaze flicks over a series of hastily written numbers. Your phone number. Bradley slowly stands up.
"Breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, dessert, movie, ice cream, drinks- whatever you want, on me," you say in a rush. You take about two steps toward your car, hoping to call Pam and confirm that you can go in this creative direction before his voice stops you.
"How about a date?" He asks, looking after you.
You turn over your shoulder and smirk, "That was the idea."

Full House lll - Eddie Munson
Authors Note: Omg. Me? Staying on schedule? Never.
Word Count: 10112
Warnings: None? Idk.
Part One HERE and Part Two HERE
(Thank you for the gif @psychecreations )
Enjoy!
“When’s the first doctors appointment?” Nancy asks, walking up to where you were currently standing at your jobs wait station. You jump, dropping the order pad you had been scribbling in as you turn to find her leaning on the wall.
“What? Why are you here?”
“I was craving chicken and didn’t want to hear Steves kfc imitation. So we decided to come here.” She smiles, rubbing her stomach ever so slightly. “Plus it meant I got to check on you.”
“Oh I’m fine.” You lie, forcing a smile on your face as she narrows her eyes.
It’s been 4 days since the Christmas fiasco, and 4 days since you realized Eddie was leaving. You tried to pick yourself back up the day of Christmas but ended up telling everyone that you were really sick and should shut the party down early. They had all gone to Steves and you were truly embarrassed to think of what they might have been saying about you.
God, did you have to ruin everything you touched?
“You never answered my question.”
“Oh? I was just sick. It’s not a serious bug or anything. I just didn’t want to get you guys sick on Christmas. That would have been bad” you lie again, feeling a coiling feeling in your gut. “Why don’t you go sit?”
“Y/n, girl I love you. But you’re showing.”
“Am not.”
“Are too. Especially in this waitressing uniform.” It was true. Normally the old school 70s uniform fit you like a glove, falling just to your thighs and it made tips so much easier. Right now? It was on the tighter side…… which made tips even easier because your boobs looked great but you felt terrible about everything.
“Does he know?” Nancy asks, and you have to stop yourself from telling her or shove off. After a moment of silence she seems to take that for an answer. “Y/n….. Eddie needs to know.”
“Why? So I can trap someone else?” You laugh bitterly. “That poor guy has already put up with enough of my shit. Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go grab tables.”
You walk past her, not giving her a chance to argue as you completely avoid looking to their tables direction and move to your own section of the floor to greet a new table.
Pam, one of your favorite regulars, sees you and greets you with a smile. “You never work Friday nights!”
You always spent Friday nights with Eddie and the girls for movie night. But Eddie ran and you needed to make rent so tonight Max was watching them.
“Starting now I will be. You want your usual babe?”
“You know it!.” She giggles.
-
Steve tried saying bye before they left and you pretended you didn’t see him as you took orders, by the end of the night your feet were killing you and you all but limped inside to where Max was sitting at the table doing college homework with her headphones on.
Either she didn’t have them loud or she was on edge, your guess being a bit of both, she knows you're there and turns to you when you enter the kitchen.
“Thank you so much Max.” You mumble, pulling out the tip money you had set aside for her. “I’m sorry I ran late.”
“No need to pay.” She smiles, pushing the money away. “I like spending time with them.”
That tight feeling in your stomach is back, digging in as you stare at the redhead. She had been part of the reason you chose Hawkins, Billy had (in one of his rare good moments) described the way Max seemed to blend in and find a home here. He told you about the friends she made and how she managed to grow into a brave person and you wanted that for your own. So, assuming she was gone, you moved out here. Little did you know you find her soon enough along with an entire group of people connected to your ex.
You had always been told max was dead.
Max had always been told Billy was dead.
You didn’t know how she figured you out until Eddie told you about VECNA and Lucas told you about his girlfriends sight for things.
“I…. I saw the tickets.” She admits, blush traveling her cheeks as you move to make a cup of tea. The cupboard was still broken and you couldn’t bear to look at it.
“What tickets?”
“You left your folder out on the table. I saw that you were figuring out where to go.” Max admits and you can’t help but tense.
“I just….. I don’t want the girls being surrounded by…..”
“Billy?”
“Yes…..” you admit, still keeping your back to her as you boil water. “And Eddie. I just don’t want them knowing that he left them. They adore him too much.”
Coward. Coward. COWARD.
“I’m not a mom, but I can get your urge to protect them.” Max mumbles. “But what if they end up hating you for taking them away.”
“Then they have someone to blame. I’d rather them blame me than themselves. It is my fault anyways.” You admit, tears springing into your eyes. “Anyways. Take the money, go have fun.”
“Do you need me again this week? I saw that you work on New Year’s Eve.”
“No. You should be going out with your friends.”
“The boys have a start of the year campaign and El is taking a trip with Hopper. I’m free.” She laughs, trying to break the tension built up. “I’ll be here at 2.”
You can’t get the words thank you out because of how tight your throat is, so you just mouth them as she grabs the money and passes.
-
Steve could not stop laughing when he saw Eddie’s face the day he brought the car into the shop, leaning over on his knees to catch his breath as he wheezed out.
Dylan, the other mechanic, kept looking over to watch the scene unfold as Eddie tried to focus on his friends car.
“Harrington.”
“Dude I know- it’s just that your face is so purp-hahaha.” Another fit of laughter and Eddie is debating throwing his drill at him. He was in no shape to be dealing with him today.
Truth was Eddie had barely gotten a wink of sleep, he couldn’t manage to. Not used to not having you beside him, or not having the girls night light and soft lullabies. It had been 5 days since he saw you and he was beginning to lose his mind and resolve.
Almost every night he nearly talked himself into going back, then he remembered Motleys broken cries as they carted him off and the way she clung to your hip. The way she screamed for her dad as Eddie attacked him.
Monster monster monster.
“Gotta give it to Hargrove. He knows how to punch.”
“Yeah well, hope he had his fun.” Eddie snaps, leaning back to make sure he adjusted the part correctly.
“Did you get him back?”
“I got a few licks in.” Eddie mumbles, feeling guilty about the pride that washes over him as he remembers the way he beat Billy's face in. That was motleys dad. As much as he enjoyed hitting him he probably just scarred the Metalhead for life.
“Oh a few licks.” Steve scoffs, moving to take a seat on the stool at Eddie’s workstation. “I know how strong you are Munson. You got more than a few licks in.”
“I shouldn’t have.”
“Why the hell not?”
“Because Motley was right there! She’s gonna hate me forever.” Eddie scoffs.
“Oh you mean more than they already do?” This pulls Eddie’s attention, he had been doing so good about not asking but he was dying to know. What had they said? Were they happy he’s gone? Mad that he fought Billy?
“What’d they say?”
“Not much of anything. Nancy knows something is up but your girl is keeping her lips sealed pretty well. I didn’t even know about your fight with jackass until I saw your face.”
“But you said they were mad.”
“Yeah man, you missed Christmas and just dipped. Leaves a bad impression.”
“Oh whatever. They are better off, I just ruin everything.”
“Oh. My. God.” Steve gasps, looking at Eddie like he’s figured everything out. “You’re self sabotaging!”
“What?!”
“Yeah! You think you’re the bad guy and so you’re trying to run away which is just making you even more of a bad guy which means my wife can stop threatening to shave your head.”
“I….. no man you don’t get it.”
“I do get it. I get it more than anyone else and let me be the first to tell you that you’re being a massive idiot.” He sighs, standing up. “Motley was waiting by that window to spot you that entire day.”
“S……she was?”
“Yeah Munson. She was.”
“I just….. I don’t want to be the one holding them back. I don’t want her to hate me.”
“Did you ever think that maybe Motley chose you? Like you chose Wayne?” Steve asks, watching Eddie deflate before his eyes before turning to the car. “I’m not paying by the way. Consider my advice enough.”
“Ass.”
-
Eddie spends the day of New Year’s Eve by the phone, fighting the urge to call.
What would he say? How would he explain?
No. Don’t call. This is for the better.
Yes. Call. Just pick the phone just for the chance to hear your voice.
God damn when did life get so complicated?
“What are you doing?” Wayne asks, watching eddie from his spot on the couch. “Quit wearing down my carpet.”
The carpet has been worn down since Eddie had moved in, but he chooses not to comment instead he sits by the phone, keeping his pinky on the handle of the plastic and glaring at it.
“You expecting a call?”
“No.” Eddie groans, rubbing his chest to try and relieve some of the pain built up. God he missed you guys. “Fuck. I’m gonna go smoke.”
He rushes to the back porch before Wayne could argue, hearing the old man laugh as he slams the door.
There is a dog out there when he exits, chewing on a stick found from the trees and sitting right by the fence. Upon looking a little closer he sees that the dog actually seems caught under the fence, like he was trying to sneak in.
“Jesus.” He murmurs, keeping the joint between his lips as he walks up, socked feet stepping on sticks and stones making him grunt out and try walking on his tippy toes.
He looks back with a smile, expecting a giggle from one of the girls at his weird walk before he realizes he’s alone. Shit.
The dog is panting patiently when Eddie comes up, and the man reaches a hand to let him sniff before moving to help. The dog chooses to kiss at his arm, tongue lapping at the skin as Eddie lifts the fence to try and help free him.
“Why you sneaking in pal?” He grunts, bending the fence. “You hungry?”
Within moments the dog is out, jumping up and kissing at his face for being rescued. “God. Motley would love you.”
-
“Shhhhh Ziggy.” Motley whispers to her baby sister, pulling her closer to the corner. The way daddy eddie set up her room was perfect.
He had put her bed in the center which left a small corner by her nightstand hidden from the door.
Over the past week she had looked for Daddy Eddie’s number, finding it sprawled under the label emergency numbers where he had written it under Wayne.
It was so weird that Daddy Eddie called his dad Uncle Wayne. Adults were so confusing.
Before you had left for your shift that night you made sure to wish Motley a happy new year and made her promise to behave. Little did you know that she had crossed her fingers behind her back.
The second you were gone she dashed to grab the closest phone, pulling it into her room and hiding it as Max struggled to cook nuggets for dinner.
Later that night when Auntie Max was reading on the couch Motley tiptoed to Ziggys room before sneaking her sister out of her crib and tip toeing back as Ziggy giggles happily.
“Sissy…” She giggles, pulling at Motleys cheeks happily. “Zigsy.”
“No your Ziggy silly. I’m motley.” She corrects as she shuffles with her sister in an awkward half hold half walk carry until they are in the corner. “Okay Ziggy. Sissy needs your help. You remember the plan?”
“Zigzy!”
“Oh boy…..”
-
The phone rings late, and Eddie sits up in the couch to lean his upper body to answer it, stressed and annoyed.
The stray dog lifts their head, huffing at being woken up and tilting to hear, one ear shooting up. “Easy Zeppelin.”
The dog barks, and Eddie likes to think he enjoyed the name as he picks the phone up. “Munson residence.”
God it felt weird saying that again.
“DADDY!” Motley whispers, sounding scared. Eddie is instantly up, standing on his feet and swiping at his face to wake up a little more.
“Motley? What’s wrong baby?”
“Someone’s trying to get in daddy.”
“Get in where? Where are you?” He’s already reaching for his keys, heart beating through his ears as his hands shake.
“We’re at home.” She whines.
“Where’s mommy?”
“At work!” Fuck. “Okay. Okay. Just hide. Just like daddy told you, remember? If anything happens, hide. You know where Ziggy is?”
“She’s with me.”
“Good girl. Get under your bed or in your closet. I’ll be right there.” He mumbles, calling out to Wayne to grab the phone before booking it out of the trailer.
He gives no time for the van to warm up, tearing out of the trailer park so quickly he’s sure he hit someone’s patio chair, mumbling under his breath a panicked “fuckfuckfuck”
-
The van is uneven as Eddie pulls in quickly, shifting gears to park so hard it makes a grinding sound before he is swinging the door open and tearing out. His feet hit the gravel before the grass as he rushes to the front door, using his shoulder to shove it open harshly.
A scream tears out in to the air at his entrance before a book is thrown at him which makes him yell out at whoever is in the house.
“EDDIE?!”
“MAXINE?!” He snaps, blinking at her. “What the fuck you doing?”
“What am I doing?! What are you doing?! You physco!”
“Motley said that someone was trying to break in!”
“I put Motley to bed an hour ago.” Max grunts, confusion lacing her features.
“You’re babysitting?”
“Obviously.”
“But her car is in the front.” Eddie felt like he was going crazy. “And since when does she work nights?!”
“Her car wouldn’t start so she took the bus today.” Max sighs, rolling her eyes. “And she needs extra cash. Probably for the plane tickets to get out of here.”
“Tickets out of….” Before Eddie can process her words any further there is a small pair of eyes looking around the corner drawing his attention.
Ziggy moves quickly, coming around the corner with a very excited giggle, walking to him as fast as her little feet would allow. “Da-Ed-ay!”
“Hey there baby girl.” He smiles, picking her up and swooping her into his arms to kiss all over her face. It was odd, just how much he missed this and it seemed like she had gotten so much bigger in the 4 days he missed.
“I swear to god I put her to bed. How did she get out of her crib?!” Max glares, right as the culprit behind it all comes rushing out to run at Eddie.
“I knew you’d come! I knew it daddy!” She giggles, running at him and throwing her arms around him tightly. “You came back!”
“Motley?” He starts, brain beginning to process what she was saying. “Did you…. Lie to get me here?”
“I did!” She smiles, peering up at him with big doe eyes. “I lied daddy! And now you’re here and you can take all my Barbie’s!”
“If you know lying is bad and you’ll get punished, why did you do it?” He asks, pulling her off before squatting to her level. “Metal head, that was very dangerous-“
A gust of air leaves him as her arms wrap around his neck tightly, tears springing from her eyes. “I don’t want you to be mad at me anymore.”
“Motley I’m not mad, that was just dangerous and it scare-“
“No! About Billy. I’m sorry daddy.” His heart plummets, his brain racking to figure out what she was talking about. Why was she sorry?
“No. No I’m sorry.” He sighs, turning to see Max staring at them intently. “Hey max. Think you can take Ziggy for a moment?”
“Sure thing mop head.” The redhead scoops Ziggy up causing the young toddler to scream and kick, reaching chubby fingers out for Eddie. As much as he wanted to take her back he had to focus on Motley.
“Come sit.” He nods his head, leading her to the kitchen table sitting in the chair beside hers and angling it so they were facing. “Listen….. Daddy ha- Well I have been feeling really bad about Christmas Eve. I never meant to do that, or to attack your dad in front of you.”
“But-“
“I owe you a big apology for that Motley. And I don’t know what you’re feeling sorry about, pretty girl, but it’s not your fault and you have no reason to be sorry.” He murmurs, swiping the tears that fall from her cheek. “You have done nothing wrong.”
“I told Billy he couldn’t come for Christmas Daddy!” She blurts, her tears hit against his thumb as he keeps swiping her cheek. “I’m sorry!”
“No no no. You don’t be sorry.” He moves to pick her up, sitting her on his lap with her face pressed into his chest as he rubs his palm over her hair to try and soothe her. “Let’s just take a deep breath, okay? Then you can tell me what happened.”
There’s something coiling in his gut at her tears. Pain, anger, sadness. He truly could not tell, but he kept her close and rocked her back and forth to let her cry. When she finally calmed down enough to talk she started telling him.
“He was really mean daddy. And he kept t-telling me that y-you we’re gonna replace me-“ her body racks with sobs again. “He said you didn’t want me. A-and I was upset! But he w-was mean to you-“
“Easy.” He whispers, wiping her cheek once more. “You gotta breathe pretty girl.”
“He was m-mean. Said mean things about you daddy and mean things ab- I’m sorry! I-“ her sobbing gets worse and Eddie shushes her, choosing to rock her back and forth and keep her in his tight embrace. “And you w-were ma-you were madatme.”
“No no. I was never mad.” He sighs. “Daddy was never mad at you.”
“You were.”
“No, I was just scared. I…. Daddy didn’t want you hating him.” Eddie explains. “I just wanted to give you space. Having 2 dads is confusing. I didn’t want to make it worse.”
“He hit you.”
“Did he ever hit you motley?” Eddie asks sternly, squeezing her a bit in comfort.
“He spanked me.” That feeling in his stomach settled on rage.
“That’s not fair. And you shouldn’t have had to go through that.”
“Please don’t leave again.” As much as he wanted to promise her that he wouldn't, that wasn’t a promise he could make. You probably hated him, and he would have to talk this out with you first.
“Let’s get you to bed yeah? Daddy will tuck you in.”
“I want mama.”
“Well she’s at work.” He mumbles against her hair.
“Can we go get milkshakes?”
“I don’t know…..” it was almost 10. Then again it was New Year’s Eve and he didn’t want you taking the bus home so this would give him an excuse to go pick you up. “Only if they have chocolate.”
“You already know they have chocolate!” She giggles, and he can’t stop the way his heart seems to light up.
-
It was a busy night, and the smell of the jalapeno nachos all your tables were ordering was making you nauseated and angry. You wanted to throw up, maybe cry, maybe throw up then cry.
Apparently a town next to Hawkins lost power so a bunch of people were driving to this place to have a good new years which meant you were going to be stuck here forever. You found yourself stressing about the bus’ schedule as you dashed to run food.
This is what you had been doing when you spotted him. Running a tray of jalapeño nachos to your table, keeping it a safe distance from your nose as you thought about the fact that you might have to walk, and there he was.
Standing in the doorway, leather jacket and wide eyes, as you caught him looking for you. And he was holding Ziggy.
What the fuck Maxine?!
“Y/n get a move on!” Your manager calls and you snap out of it, moving to deliver the tray as the host seats Eddie.
You hear Motley call out “mommy!” And instantly knew that they would now be sat in your section. Did it make you a bad mother if you admitted you would rather die than face him tonight?
“Mama!” Your daughter calls, making you look over as she slides in, Eddie sitting right next to her and then you are forced to confront this. You should have learned about birth control. Better yet maybe you should have practiced the art of condoms more.
Thinking of all the ways you could have prevented this situation as you gaze at your daughters adorable smiling face. God she was beautiful….. still should have used a condom.
“What a surprise. I could have sworn I left you guys with Max.” You try to smile, avoiding looking at Eddie as Ziggy reaches for you. You grab her gently, bouncing her on your hip and she starts playing with your hair clip.
“I got daddy!” Motley admits proudly, pointing to Eddie which makes you look at him. Your heart thumping against your chest, adrenaline rushing through you as he stares at you with those god damn brown eyes.
“Munson.” You greet, turning back to Motley. “Girls, stay in the booth for a moment. Okay? I’m gonna talk to him outside.”
You walk off after that, leaving Eddie no choice but to follow as he jumps up and runs to catch up. The winter hair hits you, and you immediately wrap your arms around yourself to keep some of the warmth, the crappy waitress outfit doing nothing for you.
The second you hear your name fall from his lips you whirl, slapping him in the chest to push him back. “What the fuck is the matter with you munson?!”
“I…. Give me a moment to explain, please.”
“Explain?! EXPLAIN?!” A bitter laugh splits from your lips. “Look. I get it. My life was a bit too messy and fucked up, I’d run too. But you bringing the girls here is just making it worse. You’re going to get their hopes and it’s gonna crush them.”
“Too messy? Who said anything about it being too messy?”
“WHY ELSE WOULD YOU RUN?!” Your voice raises louder than you thought it would, but you don’t back down. “And I don’t appreciate you talking to my daughters without me. Now I gotta tell them-“
The words ‘my daughters’ sound wrong, and you can’t fight the disgust that coats you as you trail off, eyes widening as he stares back at you with a set jaw. “I just mean….. I get why you left okay? My life is chaos and you were really nice for staying and pretending like it was fine. But those girls…. They can’t know you left cause of that. I was hoping, as shitty as it sounds, that after a couple years they’d forget. Y’know?”
You are swiping at your cheeks as tears stream down your face, trying not to look at him. You catch him moving up, his hands outstretched, but you move backwards so he can’t grab you. “Eds. Y-you should just go. Okay? It’ll be fine.”
“No it won’t-“
“It will. I’ll be fine. I won’t be mad-“ then his arms are around you, pulling you in quickly as he shoves your head into his chest and you get to inhale his scent once more. Doing your best not to outright sob.
“I was the mess.” He blurts. “I was scared, okay? I was scared that Billy was gonna turn everyone against me, and I was scared that I ruined Motleys Christmas.”
You scoff, trying to pull away, not really believing the excuse. Before you can fully move he wraps an arm around your waist, his other hand moving to your jaw to drag your eyes up to his own. “I was scared. I was a coward.”
“But-“
“No buts. I didn’t leave cause I thought you were a mess, baby I think you’re perfect and your daughters are so fucking precious to me. I…. You really thought I was running cause I couldn’t handle it?”
“I just-“
“Y/n!” Your boss calls from the door, looking exasperated. “You gettin sick again? Need to go? Or you wanna get paid so you can afford maternity leave?”
You tense again under Eddie’s touch, stomach curling as you try and take a step back while Eddie’s brows knit in confusion before he turns to glare at your boss. “She’s sick.”
“Fine. Take her home. Just have to transfer tables.” The man snaps, turning to walk back in before Eddie is whirling on you.
“Am I crazy or did he just say maternity leave?”
“Eddie….” You sigh, feeling saliva build up as you panic. He watches you, taking a step back just as you lean forward to puke.
-
The car ride is silent. Not the serene kind of quiet and more so the anxiety inducing type.
You had no clue what to say to him at this point. Suddenly everything just seemed to….. silly. You’re reaction and his reaction. You should have just called. Why hadn’t you called?
No, he should have called.
You were being a decent person and giving him space and “mama?”
“Yeah?”
“Can I sleep with you and daddy tonight?”
“Ya!” Ziggy yells, making Eddie chuckle under his breath as he leans to turn the heater in the car up. It had been forever since you had ridden in this van, since he deemed it unacceptable to drive the girls around in since it lacked seatbelts or a backseat. Even now everytime he braked he means a hand out to block the girls even with Ziggy in your lap.
“I don’t know…”
“Please! Please please.”
“We will talk about it when we get home.”
Only there was no talking about it, the second you got home with the girls Motley ran to throw away her to go milkshake cup then dashed to your bed quickly which turned into a screaming fit when you tried to tell her no.
The word condom just kept circling your mind as you finally just told her to lay down, she did so and Ziggy soon made her appearance to crawl onto the bed.
Eddie takes off his shoes. Moving to lay with the girls as you turn off one of the lights so the room was dark enough for them to fall asleep, and then you shuffle to the bathroom to shower before bed so you didn’t smell like grease and beer.
It wasn’t even 10 minutes before you heard the door open and shut softly, you turn already knowing he is heading for the shower and watch as the curtain opens lightly.
Normally he would jump right in like he belonged there which would make you laugh, tonight he had a questioning gaze, trying not to over step. You give him a small nod and then the curtain is pushed aside and he dives in, still in his shirt and jeans.
“Edward-“ you warn before his lips are on yours in a searing kiss. He keeps one hand on your jaw to keep your lips connected as his other wraps around your back to keep you close as the water runs over both of you getting his clothes soaked. By the time you pull back he’s already working his way down your neck with kisses as you earn him again “clothes.”
The hand holding your jaw moves to cover your mouth quickly as he peers at you, giving you a fake angry expression that has you laughing. “Do not wake our kids.” He whispers before stepping back to undress.
The jeans take a moment to shuck off since they were wet but the second he is free Eddie dives for you again, showing up just how much he missed you.
-
You sit with him on the floor of the kitchen by the fridge, using the light above the oven as your only source of light while you both snack, keeping cuddled together in nothing but your robes.
Nothing has been said yet, and you were just fine with that, exhausted and happy that he was there. But he has to ruin it, of course he does.
“I’m still sorry.” He murmurs, scraping the cream of one side of an Oreo using the empty side.
“I am too. I think we’re both incredibly stupid right now.”
“You’re telling me.” He blushes. “I just…. There was a time in my life when I hated Uncle Wayne. I had this image in my mind that he was trying to tear me away from my dad. Fuck I just wanted to be with my dad, I looked up to him whether he beat me or not and- the way I treated Wayne and the way I hated him….. my dad didn’t help, everytime I went back with him my mom and I just ended right back up at Wayne’s with more bruises than last time. And when she passed I was the only one there to inflict it. Wayne for him arrested and I swore my world was ending, swore I would never talk to Wayne again.”
“You thought that was what was going on with Motley? That she felt like you were tearing her and her dad apart?”
“Yes and no. I just was trying to prevent that from happening, I didn’t want her to have to experience that choice.” He whispers, picking at the robe. “I just wanted to protect her.”
“She wanted to protect you too.” You whisper back. “That’s love.”
“Billy told her that…. That I was gonna try and replace her.” He gulps, and you stop smiling instantly. “And now that you’re pregnant, and as happy as I am because I am so happy, I need to make sure she knows that I’m not trying to replace her.”
“We’ll make it work.” You mumble, laying your head on his shoulder. “We always do”
He hums out, laying his head on top of yours and sitting in the silence for a moment before you break it once more. “Where are your rings?”
“Haven’t worn them since I got arrested.” He answers, holding up his bare hands. “My fingers were too bruised and swollen at first, then I just couldn’t care to put them on.”
“Eddie?”
“Yeah?”
“Let’s go to bed..”
“Give me five more minutes.” He whispers, turning his head to kiss your own, keeping his nose pressed into your hair.
“Why?”
“I just…. I just want to be near you for a little longer.”
-
The sun peaks through the curtains, hitting Eddie right in the face which in return makes him groan out, moving the pillow around to try and block it. I’m his attempt to move Ziggy wiggles around, giving a displeased noise that her dad woke her up from sleeping before moving to lay right on his chest.
Motley does not move an inch, mouth wide open and eyes sealed shut, Eddie has to reach a hand out to poke her and make sure she’s not dead.
She wrinkles her nose, moving closer and shoving her face in your pillow, staying peacefully asleep.
You’re sitting at the edge of the bed, and he can only blink at you trying to straighten his eyesight as he watches you zip up your work boots. (For some reason I imagine go go boots with the 70s look. I don’t know guys. I….. I have no clue).
“You going to work?” He blurts, making you jump.
“Sorry, yeah. Max will be here soon to watch the girls. We agreed on it last night before I left.” You mumble, moving to grab your apron.
“I can watch em….” He whispers, staring at you. The way the sun from the window hits you makes you look angelic.
“Okay.” You smile, moving to kiss Motley and Ziggys heads before you move to walk away. Fully offended Eddie snatches your hand and draws you back, annoyed at the shit eating grin on your face.
“Baby,” he whines making you let out a small laugh and lean down to kiss his lips before rushing to leave.
He lays with the girls for a little longer making sure the blanket is covering all three of them before the day truly has to start and he forces himself to get up. Setting Ziggy down without waking her up was a difficult task but he managed, shuffling to the bathroom to change into todays clothes, thankful that he no longer has to wear all the shit clothes he left at Wayne’s when he originally moved out.
Upon exiting the bathroom he nearly trips over Motley, who had been sitting in front of the door. “What are you doing Metalhead?”
“You took forever…” she whines, wrapping herself around his calf which makes him smile. “I wanna stay with you.”
“Okay,” he answers, moving down to peel her off his leg and letting her climb up for a piggy back. “You’re gonna help me make breakfast then.”
“Waffles?”
“We’ll just have to wait and see.” He smirks, walking down the hall as the front door opens to reveal Max.
“Hey. Sorry I’m late.” She rushes out, face red from running. “I woke up a little late and-“
“It’s no problem. I’m here if you had other things to do.” Eddie offers. “Or you can stay and have some breakfast?”
“Sounds great. I’m kinda ignoring the rest of the group right now.” She explains, setting her bag down and following them into the kitchen. Eddie gets Max set up at the table, trying to set Motley with her but the girl wiggles and whines so he allows her to stay.
He listens to Max rant about the group as he moves around to make waffles, enjoying the easy feeling he gets being here. God why did he ever leave home?
“-And Lucas is just always set out to fight Erica. You’d think he had a crush on Dustin and wanted to date him. You know? I get it, your baby sister starts dating your closest friend. A little weird. But get over it!”
“I think Uncle Dustin and Auntie Erica are so cute!” Motley adds which makes Eddie chuckle a bit.
“Lucas is upset because he always thought they were in agreement that Erica was annoying.” He explains, bending down to set Motley down and bring the food to the table. “But it’s been months. Time to move on.”
“Exactly!” Max sighs right as Ziggy comes pounding in with an angry look.
“Alone….” She whines and Eddie smiles at her. “Aweee did you wake up alone? My poor little baby.” He coos, picking her up and bringing her close to kiss before setting her on his lap to help her eat. He already knew she would not be into the high chair based on the way even Motley was clinging to him.
Even now, as she used a spoon to shove waffles in her mouth, she kept a hand on his own arm to keep him close.
“I’m gonna work on mamas car today.” He explains. “I’ll be right outside. So maybe you girls can stay in here and keep Max company.”
“I wanna stay with you.” Motley whines, giving him puppy dog eyes.
“No it’s too cold. You stay in here. Okay?” And then Eddie gave her his puppy dog eyes. Oh yeah, can’t beat dads game.
She groans and looks at Max who smiles in return. “I’ve been practicing my barbie voices just for you.”
“Fine! But barbie is married to G.I. Joe! Ken is the villain. We’re not arguing about it again.”
“But isn’t it Barbie and Ken? Wouldn’t Joe be the villain?”
“Maxine.” Motley warns, slamming her tiny hand on the table.
“Fine. Got it.”
-
It didn’t last long.
Eddie had put on his mechanic suit, trying to keep warm as he took a look at what was going on with your car. 15 minutes in Motley came out wearing her snowsuit and smiling. “Look daddy! I can help!”
“I thought I said to stay inside-“ a laugh breaks out when she takes off the hood of the snow suit to reveal that she tied a bandana over her head like a hat. “That’s not how you tie it. Come here.”
He helps her tie it like his, telling her to sit a little closer to the grass as he keeps working, making sure the radio is on a station she would like as he does so.
By the time you get home she is making snow angels in the snow of the lawn as he curses under his breath.
“What’s going on?” You ask, making him jump and hit his head on the hood of your car. “Oh! I’m so sorr-“
“It’s good. I’m good.” He laughs, letting you fuss over him anyways. He takes his chance to kiss at you before you are pulling back.
“You are covered in car nastiness-“
“You mean grease and oil?” He laughs, keeping you trapped in his arms to rub his cheek on your shoulder. You yell out playfully, still trying to escape as he does so.
“Does this mean you guys are good?” Steve appears, dustin behind him. “Are you done being mad at me Y/n?”
“I was never mad at you!” Eddie keeps his arms around you as you turn to look at Steve, making sure Motley is good.
“Yes you were. I waved at you the other night and you completely ignored me.”
“I didn’t see you wave.” You reply and Eddie can’t help but laugh.
“I called your name!”
“It was a busy restaurant, how am I supposed to hear everything.” You scoff, pulling from Eddie’s arms and flipping your hair. “Come on Motley. Let’s go inside.”
“Just admit you saw me wave!” Steve groans, following you to the door before Motley turns to shove him and close the door in his face. “Rude!”
“Steve, did you just get beat up by a kid?” Dustin laughs.
“It’s Eddie’s kid. Does that count?”
“My kids are great!”
-
Things took a moment to get back to normal, but that was to be expected.
Eddie found the folder of all your research on places to go, running his fingers over the math you sprawled across the pages to figure out how you would afford it, he promptly threw it in the trash bins outside.
Motley stayed glued to Eddie as much as she could, and in the mornings when he had to get up for work she made sure to wake him up and give him a kiss by the door making sure that he swore to come back before she would dash down the hall and lay with you.
Makeup Christmas happened, except it was only Wayne that was invited and instead of a whole feast you guys ordered a crap ton of Chinese food.
Wayne came over early, sneaking around the back and coming in through the back door which confused the girls to no end but they were excited to see their grandpa.
Ziggy also proved that she learned 2 more words by saying “shit grandpa!” All excited and reaching her hands up for him to grab her.
He howls with laughter, scooping her up and throwing her in the air as she screams in excitement.
Everyone sits around the tree opening gifts, Wayne on the couch with Ziggy on his lap helping her open the gifts. Eddie sat by the tree, passing them out with Motley right by him and you next to her.
He pulls out an envelope that has his name sprawled on it and looks at you.
“I had a plan for Christmas. But I kind of had to redo it. I planned on giving you the stick, but figured since you already know I’d get the ultrasound.” Yoh blush, watching his excitedly tear it open.
It’s quiet for a moment as everyone watches him admire the photo, smiling from ear to ear.
“Anything you notice?” You ask, waiting.
“What do you mean?” He asks, before Wayne snaps his fingers and grabs the photo gently.
“There’s two.” Wayne grunts before his eyes light up. “You’re having twins!”
“Obviously….” Eddie mumbles, “we already knew that?”
“What?”
“The stick? It had two blue lines? So that means we’re having twin boys? Right?” Eddie mumbles, staring at you like your crazy.
It’s quiet for a moment as you and Wayne process what he said before you burst into laughter, the girls following even though they had no clue what was going on.
“Not even close boy!” Wayne cackles as you have to wipe some of the tears from your eyes.
“Does that mean you’re pregnant mommy?” Motley asks, turning to look at you with wide eyes. Your heart stops, going back to what Eddie had told you.
“Yes. Mommy is pregnant .” You wait to see her reaction and Eddie finds himself reaching for the gift he had added two days ago. “Motty. I have something for you.”
He snatches the tiny box, holding it out to her. “It’s a really important gift though. Okay?”
She nods slowly, taking the box from him and opening it just as slow. Inside held a simple chain necklace, but when she pulled it out it revealed that he had hung his mothers ring on it, the one he normally wore on his right hand by itself. “I was told to give this ring to someone very special. It’s from my own mom.”
She gasps, turning to him. “You’re giving it to me?!”
“Well yeah! You’re my oldest kid. My firstborn.” He laughs, moving to help her put it on. Then he snatches another box and hands it to her. “This one is for both you and your sister.”
She reaches for it and opens it gently, pulling out a heavy chain that has a dog tag connected to it. “Another necklace?”
“Well…..” Wayne laughs, flipping it to reveal what the dog tag says.
“Who is Zeppeplin?”
“Zeppelin, baby.” You correct, already standing up.
“Who is Zeppelin?” She giggles, which makes Eddie laugh, picking her up by her armpits to make her stand as you go and open the back door.
The dog, a young little puppy at most, snaps his head to the noise and wags it’s tail excitedly upon seeing you.
“Come in!” You smile and he bolts from his spot tearing up sticks to get inside. Once he hits the threshold of the house he is everywhere. Sniffing the fridge to the chairs, jumping on his hind legs to clean up the high chair where Ziggy left her banana. After inhaling that he bolts to explore more, completely missing the living room as he bolts down the hall to sniff all the rooms.
Once Motley sees the flash of fur she screams in excitement, which draws the puppy back and they both just feed off each others excitement.
She’s jumping up and down, screaming in excitement and the dog starts howling to match her while his butt starts wiggling at how hard he is wagging his tail.
“I am so excited for Chinese later.” Wayne murmurs, coming to hug you as Eddie tries to calm both the noisemakers down. “Thank you for inviting me.”
“Of course, you’re grandpa.” You smile, watching Ziggy from his arms just stare intently at the scene before her. “She can’t tell whether to be excited or scared.”
Wayne laughs, pointing to the dog and trying to help Ziggy see him.
Later that evening everyone sits around the table, Max with you all, as you pile Chinese food onto the plates. Motley keeps showing Max the necklace she got while Wayne keeps bragging to Eddie about his new Jean jacket.
Zeppelin chooses to sit by Ziggy, and it’s very clear that the dog has already figured out who will drop the most food. Ziggy giggles every time she drops a piece of broccoli and he catches it.
“Now we’re gonna have to watch her every time we give her veggies.” Eddie groans. “She’s got an accomplice!”
“Zeppy and Ziggy!” Motley cheers like their superheroes.
-
February rolls around soon enough, and your daughters biggest catastrophe had nothing to do with the restraining order on Billy, or her dads new bike (which she was terrified of). No. Motleys world was ending over valentines cards.
Eddie had helped her pick them out, little heart shaped cards that you could stick lollipops in, and had sat with her to write in them as you took Ziggy in for a haircut.
The only one that Motley had not written a card for was Troy, and now the morning of Valentine’s Day she was still panicking.
“I can’t write love cause then he will want to get married!” She explains and Eddie nods like it’s super serious. “And I can’t write like, because then he will know I have a crush on him!”
“Glad you can admit it.” He nods and she rolls her eyes. “Here’s an idea! Okay, you ready metal head?”
“Ready daddy!”
“You can write ‘from Motley’.” He laughs, watching her face go serious.
“That’s what I wrote on the others!”
“Exactly.” He watches as she thinks about it before nodding quickly and writing it down, tossing it in her valentines box and dashing to grab her backpack.
“She finally figure out Troys?” You ask, shuffling Ziggy in. “It’s been days.”
“She did. We decided on writing ‘from motley’.” He smiles, leaning forward to kiss you before leaning down to kiss your stomach then Ziggy.
“Stevie….” Ziggy giggles, running to the phone. It didn’t take long to figure out that she would be the one to run the phone bill up, even now she spent every morning learning to dial her uncle Steve’s number. She dialed Dustin once but deemed him “poopoo head.”
“Nuh uh. Come eat pretty girl.” Eddie calls, pointing to her chair. “Zeppelin is waiting.”
The dog, who just a month ago had been tiny enough to lay under her chair, now sat at full height beside it. Still a puppy, just bigger.
Ziggy runs, her little pigtails bouncing as Eddie picks her up by the overalls to sit her in the chair. Now trained Ziggy eats his dog food beside her rather than everything she drops, and if somehow someway some of her waffle drops in his bowl then it can’t really be considered his fault.
“Motley, hurry up baby.” You call. “We gotta go.”
“You good to pick Wayne up?” Eddie asks, moving to grab his lunch.
“Yes. I’ll drop Motley off at school and go and grab him.” Wayne had injured his hip, so today you’ll be taking him to the doctors to see what the plan was while Eddie went to work.
“Okay. And Ziggy is still good to-?”
“Ziggy and Zeppelin are going to Nancy’s, yes.” You smile. Nancy had just given birth to her third boy, and she liked having Ziggy over because she liked having another girl in the house.
“Okay. Tell me how it goes?” He asks, leaning to give you one more goodbye kiss as you nod before moving to say bye to Motley. “BYE BEAUTIFUL LADIES!”
The day had started off so well, you should have known it would only go downhill from there.
Wayne sat in the passenger seat of your car, irritated and ranting about shitty doctors. “I’m not doing it. You hear me? Just give me some Tylenol and I’ll be fine.”
“MOMMY!” Ziggy screams, from her spot on her car seat.
The doctor had told Wayne he needed hip surgery and could not work, which meant that Wayne was pissed and you were panicking about what to do. He couldn’t work which meant he wouldn’t be able to make rent and he would need some help to move around. Then when you got to Steve and Nancy’s she had told you that Ziggy had taken quite a stumble off the table and scratched her chin on the corner of the table.
It was a mess.
Both of them were not having a good day and Zeppelin was howling at their ranting and screaming and as much as you loved them you truly debated crashing the car.
Then you got home to yelling.
Eddie stood in the living room, still in his work attire with his hands on his hips and his eyes wide. “You’re in rare fucking form today, you know that?!”
The response to his question is met with a demonic scream from down the hall and you can only assume that Motley was having a bad time as well.
“I’m not getting a surgery, you hear me Edward?” Wayne snaps, limping to the couch.
“What the fuck are you on now?” He snaps back, looking at him annoyed as Ziggy rushes past crying. “What the fuck is going on?”
“It’s apparently a meltdown day.” You sigh, moving to kiss his cheek and go into the kitchen to make a snack for yourself.
Todays pregnancy craving was potato chips with lime juice and pickles, Eddie watches from the entrance of the kitchen with a smile as you settle at the table and enjoy your snack.
He moves and takes the seat next to you, following your lead on snacks.
“Why is Metalhead in ‘rare fucking form’ today?” You giggle, watching his face pinch in annoyance.
“I pick her up and she gets in the car, right? And then she just starts screaming at me! And I mean screaming. The entire ride home! And from what I gather Vinny didn’t give her a valentines card.” He explains. “God. She was yelling like she was possessed. Then I tried explaining that maybe it was lost and that made it worse.”
“Did she get one from Troy?”
“I don’t know. I don’t think she cares either.” He sighs, rubbing his jaw.
“Okay, we let her ride out the fit in her room. We’ll call Steve later to see what happened.”
“Sounds great to me.” He smiles. “She scared me a little. Threatened to cut her hair and everything. Then threatened to cut MY hair.”
A small laugh tears from you as he steals the potato chip in your hand before looking to Wayne’s direction. “They recommend surgery?”
“It wasn’t a recommendation.” You sigh, grabbing his hand and tracing the tattoo. “I think we need to move the house around.”
“What?”
“If Wayne gets surgery he needs to be here. I’ll cut back shifts at the diner and help him out.” You start. “He won’t be able to use the stairs so maybe we can move our room downstairs which would give more room for the twins cribs in our room, but Ziggy has problems with the stairs and she likes coming in to sleep with us cause of the nightmares but-“
“Easy. Easy.” Eddie mumbles, turning his hand up quickly to snatch your hand and pull it to his lips. “We’ll figure it out.”
-
And so you did.
Eddie moved the house around, and turned the basement into a bedroom for you guys. Now with more room and your own bathroom down here he could set up the cribs.
Wayne took your old room, and though the man threw a fit the girls got excited that Grandpa Wayne would be living here now.
He got the surgery in the beginning of March, and Motley and Vinny were still fighting.
You spent your days helping Wayne, taking him to pt and helping him move around the house.
Motley and Vinny got put into separate classes which lead to a whole argument between Steve and Eddie about whose kid was the one to blame.
Life was a bit of a mess.
It all came to head at the children's father dance.
Eddie had dressed in a tux, making sure he looked good as you got Motley ready for the night. With Wayne napping on the couch with Ziggy asleep on his chest drooling (a daily nap these two took) Zeppelin follows at your feet, keeping close to you as you did Motley's hair.
“How do I look?” Eddie asks from the door of the bathroom. “I have a date tonight and I’m really nervous.”
“Daddy!” Motley giggles, rushing to him in her puffy little skirt, hugging him tightly.
“Alright you two. Let me get a picture.” You smile, rushing past to find where the camera had gone. By the time you got a picture of them Motley was rushing Eddie out, ready for the dance.
He struggles to find parking, and ends up finding one right next to Steve’s car, rolling his eyes when he sees Harrington fixing his jacket while Vinny reads in the car.
“Harrington.” He greets coldly, fixing his leather jacket and moving to open the door for his daughter.
“Munson.” Steve matches the tone, scoffing at Eddie’s jacket. “Little Munson.”
“Uncle Steve.” She huffs, fixing her hair.
“Really? A leather jacket Edward?”
“You look like you stepped off a Queen music video, Steven.” Eddie snaps, holding out his hand for Motley. Fighting or not they wait at the front of the car for Steve and Vinny. Walking into the dance together.
“I’m surprised that they even let you in here. Your child is a danger to society.” Steve snaps as they wait in line for tickets.
“Let’s talk about your kid giving everyone but my sweet Angel a valentines card. That’s barbaric.” Eddie defends, watching Motley wave to her friends.
“He didn’t want to. And I don’t need to tell him what to do.” Steve blushes, turning to look at something to avoid looking at Eddie.
“There it is again. You’re acting so fucking suspicious about that card, man.” Eddie points at him, silver rings glinting in the light. “Tell me what you know.”
“Tickets?” The poor woman asks, interrupting their stand off.
“Yes please. Four.”
“No two. I’ll get my tickets.”
“No I’ll get them”
“You’re not buying me ,Steven.”
“He’s buying me.” Motley smiles, snatching the money from Steve’s hands and setting them on the table before grabbing two tickets. “Let’s go get some pop, daddy.”
Eddie can do nothing but follow, letting the little lady lead the way.
After about an hour of Motley showing him everything and introducing him to all her friends she abandoned him to hang out with some of the girls in her class, making sure Eddie was okay where he sat at an empty table nursing a can of soda.
It felt like high school again, watching the way all the other dads surrounded Harrington as the pta moms that decorated huddled together and giggled in the corner. At least the kids were having fun.
Eddie wished you were here, you would be sitting with him.
“Jesus. Gary never shuts up.” Steve mumbles, snapping Eddie out of his train of thought. “I got you a slice of pizza.”
He sets the slice down, giving Eddie a weird smile as he scarfs down his own slice. But eddie wasn’t very hungry, instead he surveyed to check on motley and see her giggling with all her friends as they dance in a circle.
“Your kid has been sitting alone, you gonna help?” Eddie asks, looking to where Vinny sits reading a book.
“I tried earlier. He just said something about me embarrassing him more.” Steve sighs. “Then complained that I ruin everything.”
“What happened? I’ve never seen him alone at a party.”
“Have I not told you? Your daughter is the popular one. They made her move classes and he was left in their old class struggling to make friends.” Steve mumbles.
“Why don’t you get one of the many dads following you around to get their kids over there? It feels like I’m in highschool again, waiting for your cronies to shove me in the bathrooms and lock me in again.”
“How long were you in that bathroom, again? Two hours?”
“Three.” Eddie sighs. “I smoked and set off an alarm so the principal found me.”
“Sorry.”
“Wasnt one of your worst. I was fine.” Eddie shrugs. “Sorry about Vinny.”
“I have faith.” Steve sighs, leaning back in his chair. “I also cannot believe I’m at a daddy daughter dance.”
“It’s a father kid dance?”
“They didn’t want the boys feeling left out.” Steve explains.
“I see.” Eddie smiles, picking at the pizza.
“He wrote one. You know?”
“Sorry?”
“Vinny wrote one. He wrote a valentine for Motley and got her a big chocolate bar. But a girl made fun of him in the parking lot and he panicked.” Steve explains. “Ripped it up and left the chocolate on my car to melt on the seats.”
“I can clean that.”
“You can?!”
“Oh yeah. I got you Harrington.” Eddie laughs right as another dad comes to the table.
“Howdy gentleman.” He smiles, sitting down. Eddie has to blink to recognize, holy shit that’s Tommy. “Oooo. I’m sitting at the hellfire table. So scary…”
“Do you have a kid here…?” Steve asks, blinking slowly.
“Yeah.” He slurs, pointing to the young kid stuffing his face with marshmallows. “You guys want some whiskey?”
“Jesus. I smell it from here man.” Steve snaps, standing up.
“I’m driving. Hard pass.” Eddie laughs, standing with Steve.
“It’s so weird to me that you two are friends! That shit is like….. mind flowing!”
“Blowing.” Steve corrects and Eddie sighs. “Damn it Harrington. It was a trap.”
“Blowing is more for you guys, if you know what I mean.” Tommy laughs and Eddie shakes his head.
“How did you fall for that Harrington? You made that line.” Eddie grumbles, moving to find Motley. “Hey Metalhead?”
“Yeah daddy?” She asks, coming up with her cheeks bright red from all the dancing.
“Have you eaten?” He asks, offering her a bite of his pizza before looking back over to Vinny. “Think you can go help him out?”
“Yeah. I guess.” She sighs, kissing his cheek and rushing to find Vinny and bring him out to dance.
By the end of the night Eddie has danced to about every little pop song she wants, and by the time he is bringing her to the car it’s more of a carrying her situation as Steve tries to trip Vinny up.
“Have a good night Harringtons.” Eddie laughs.
“Sleep tight Munsons.”
-
“Shouldn't you be in bed?” Eddie asks, peering up at you over his book as you shuffle and pace around the room.
“Shut up.” You grunt, waving your hand at him. Your face is pinched up and Eddie finds himself sitting up and staring at you.
“What’s going on here?”
“Edward shut UP!” You snap, pacing back to the wall and holding your hands against it to try and breathe in. “Sorry. Sorry that was mean.”
“Are you in pain?” He mumbles, standing up and putting on his slippers.
It was your ninth month, and Eddie was anxious because he had never experienced the pregnancy part of it all before so every kick and movement made him worried.
“Eddie. Edward. Eds.” You grunt out, and right there something trickles down your leg.
“Did you just pee?”
“EDWARD!”
