A poem I made a while ago based on Deena reflecting on Zariya's future once said girl joins the Guild. (pre reveal, obvi)

I am Life, and you are my Little Light, They call us Tyrants, They fear our might! But Their hearts are stone and They cannot see, Blinded by years of fear and misery! We are on Their side, we fight with Them! We yearn for peace, we yearn an end to all this mayhem, Yet They hunt us down, They want us dead! They give empty praise and hide Their secrets instead... I know your fate, but you are lost, You don't know your foe, you don't know the cost! When the time is right, will you be the one? Will you shape the world or will you run? As you grow, I know the morning’s close, But this endless night just goes and goes. Underneath the stars, your unknown foes sharpen Their claws. I will always be your voice and fight for our shared cause! We share the vision of a new dawn Where both humans and monsters get along I know you'll fight with courage and with grace! I know you’ll rise and take your true place! And though my time may run out, Do not fret or whine or pout!  For while you may not see my face,  Or be held in my tight embrace, Remember that I love you with all my might, And that a part of me lives on in you, my sweet Light!

I've been running down this empty street/With the memories echo underneath my feet/Every heartbeat takes me back to you/And every shadow I'm reaching for truth

The walk back to her office didn't take long, thankfully. Once she closed the door behind her and slumped in her chair, she finally let the tears fall.

Deena let out a strangled sob escape her throat as she buried her face in her hands, sinking deeper into her chair. She let the tears roll down her cheeks. After all, the Guild's 'youngest' Grandmaster knew it would only become harder to keep her emotions in check around the girl if she didn't. But she'd still seen her, she'd finally seen her after all these years and-!

And she's once again being hunted by the Greater Drakes...

Her heart clenched at the thought. How many years had she spent, trying failed plan after failed plan to bring an end to the Ascension Wars? How many years had she spent trying to heal Aurelia, even though she knew deep down it couldn't be her who did so? How many years had it been since Carlos had given his life to protect her -them- on that fateful night?

But unlike that night, there was no running to safety, no more time for innocence to bask in bliss. Time had run out, Zariya had come of age and was now going to embark on the journey of becoming a Tamer. Deena had dreamt so many dreams of how their first meeting would go, how she would help the girl pick her forever companion, but -as usual- her plans had died before they could bear any fruit.

Because of course Fate had other plans, it always had.

And things are only going to get so much worse from here...

Deena let out a deep sigh as she exited the duo's shared dorm and gently closed the door behind her. The greenette winced as the storm continued to pour and rumble outside. She hoped Zariya would have more peaceful dreams now that she and Coco had finally managed to calm the girl down from her panic attack. Thankfully, after talking with the teenager and a lullaby, Deena had coaxed the girl back to sleep.

Sighing again, the Grandmaster leaned against the wall and reached into her cloak. She took out a photo, and it was clear It was old, given the frayed edges and faded colors. But the photo's focal point -a swaddled newborn- was, at least in Deena's opinion, still just as beautiful as she had been the day the photo had been taken.

Deena stared at the photo longingly, memories of that night flashing in her mind on repeat. An hour. 1 damn hour... That was how much time Miriam was able to give her before Deena had had to leave her baby for the next decade and a half.

"My little light..."

Deena smiled sadly as she gently caressed the photo, a sharper pang of longing hitting her and making her heart ache. She clutched the photo to her chest and let herself sink to the floor. Allowing the rain to tune out everything else around her, Deena let herself be consumed by her thoughts for a few minutes, but there was just no way to shut her brain up these days.

Deena then put the photo away as she pulled her cloak around her tighter, a habit she had picked from Carlos to help deal with her nerves. She took a few breaths, bracing herself against the flurry of emotions in her heart, and pushed herself off the door. She then began to make her way back to her own dorm, where she knew a certain ghost would surely be waiting.

Don’t you hate it when you’re just listening to some music and then all of a sudden, you realize it fits a certain character?

She likes music but hid it from the N1 gang bc she thought it was silly

Ira helped her realize she shouldn't hide her passion

Now only rarely plays her violin

A little after Zariya arrived, Deena took her out in her airship to see the sunrise during which she played her violin for Zari

Her N1 team (During Novi's journey): Polentina the Polenblom, Squeakers the Cheekmunk, Eepy the Leafegg

Her N1 team (Once the Guild is founded): Polentina the Polerina, Fluff the Dandemill, Red the Lantora, Eepy the Floreus, Squeakers the Hoardent, and Rose the Lagorove

Her N:E team: Flo the Bloomriol, Mint the Foreer, Tulip the Mantrass, Spike the Sikipha, Sage the Raksuma (Cosmic)

Sage was added after Zari chose Noki at the start

Later adds Petal the Florozard after the Extinction-Project sidequest

is friends with Boscage

Visits Hilda every month

Had Novi promise to watch over Zariya

Later had Carlos promise as well

Was very close with Carlos before his death

Is constantly 'haunted' by Carlos' ghost

Traumatized after watching Carlos then Lucifer die

Deeply advocated for SCI

Has been with the Guild since its conception

Fakes her death every few decades and rejoins a few months later under a different alias to not arouse suspicion

During the time she is 'dead' she hides with either Hilda or Luke + Oliver

15 years after, she still misses Carlos and Luci

Tried talking sense into Lobo back when he was Guildmaster but it didn't really work

Little sister figure to Ulzar

bad with technology yet is surprisingly a good airship flyer

Baking used to be a hobby before the sun left

Knows about Vados thanks to Ellie's help

Was helping learn Luke sign before she died

Knew she would die long before the Bunker Incident
