Ricky Martin - María (Pablo Flores remix) 1995

"María" is a song recorded by Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin for his third studio album, A Medio Vivir (1995), and was released as the second single from the album on November 21, 1995. Musically, "María" is a Spanish-language flamenco, dance, and salsa song, featuring elements of mariachi, samba, cumbia, Latin, African, Caribbean, and Latin pop. On the remix, Puerto Rican DJ Pablo Flores upped the tempo and the sex appeal of the song, turning the slow-burn flamenco laced track into an up-tempo samba tune in a house bassline. The remix version became more popular than the original one. "María" became Martin's breakthrough song and his first international hit. It topped the charts in 20 countries, and has sold over five million physical copies worldwide. As a result, the song was featured in the 1999 edition of The Guinness Book of Records as the biggest Latin hit. It was also the Song of the Summer in Spain in 1996 and was the second best-selling single in the world that year.

In Australia, "María" spent six weeks at number one. It topped the country's year-end chart in 1998, and was certified platinum. The song topped the Ultratop Wallonia chart of Belgium for 10 consecutive weeks and was certified double platinum. It spent nine weeks at number one in France and was certified diamond. It went number one in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. In the US, "María" peaked at number six on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart, giving Martin his fifth top 10 hit. The song also reached numbers two and eight on the US Latin Pop Songs and Tropical/Salsa charts, respectively. The first accompanying music videos for the original song and Pablo Flores remix were filmed in La Boca, a barrio of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Following "(Un, Dos, Tres) María"'s success in France, a re-made version of the video for the Pablo Flores remix was filmed in Paris and aired in 1998.

Although Martin was satisfied with the track and he describes it as a song that he is "extremely proud of", the first time he played it for a record label executive, the man said: "Are you crazy? You have ruined your career! I can't believe you are showing me this. You're finished — this is going to be your last album." In an interview with Rolling Stone, he told the magazine that "everybody got scared. They said, 'What are you doing? This is the end of your career. […] You do ballads, and now you're doing Latin sounds. The album is not going to work.'"

In 2018, Cadena Dial hailed the song as the most famous song of the last 24 years. In the same year, Rolling Stone ranked "María (Pablo Flores Remix)" as the 27th Greatest Latin Pop Song of All Time. Also, according to ABC, "María" was voted the favorite song of the summer of all time in Spain, based on a study in 2011. Amazon Music ranked the track as the 31st best-ever Latin hit. It was recognized as one of the best-performing songs of the year at the 1997 BMI Latin Awards. "María" was the main theme of the Brazilian telenovela Salsa e Merengue (1996–1997). The song is available on the main setlist for the dance video game Just Dance 2014. "María (Pablo Flores Spanglish Radio Edit)" was featured in the American animated comedy film Despicable Me 3 (2017).

what are you thinking, finn wolfhard?

everything i'm about to say aligns with my finn wolfhard is a genius agenda.

it was just made apparent to me that not only did finn wolfhard film it 2017 before season two, but he filmed his scenes as boris in the goldfinch literally DAYS before filming season three. this is extremely hard for me to conceptualize. but it also makes me think about finn wolfhard himself who obviously knows the truth about mike wheeler's sexuality. if byler is as deep seeded as we want it to be, odds are that finn knew what was up from the beginning. which makes a girl think- did he know the same about richie tozier when he first played him in 2017?

lets look at richie a bit.

richie is obviously gay. i will not be taking arguments on this. i'm reading a reddit thred right now where people are debating it and i'm like- are you kidding me. but he wasn't gay in the source material. stephen king has stated as much in a vanity fair article. though he calls andy muscetti's choice "genius" (which it is, btw), he makes it clear that it wasn't his intention. it's explicitly clear in it chapter 2, and being wired like a byler shipper, i was able to suss it out in the first movie, but was that andy muscetti's intention to begin with?

there are many ways this change can be interpreted. assuming that it wasn't something that was explicitly written into the original character description for richie in the first movie, you could see this as something that was put in as a sign of the times, a statement if you will. it chapter one was written in 2015-2016 while we were still under obama's presidency, one that saw drastic improvements for the quality of life of a gay person in america. it chapter two was written during trump's presidency and could have been trying to brand itself as a statement of sorts. i only say this because as far as i can find (and PLEASE tell me if i'm wrong) there wasn't nearly as much evidence hinting at richie's sexuality in the first movie as there is for mike or will to use a relevant example.

the idea that finn wolfhard could have gone straight from it filming (summer of 2016) to stranger things filming (early november 2016) just having played a character who he knows was in the closet and in love with his best friend in the 80s could open up new interpretation to mke in season two. oddly, the reason i bring this up is because richie tozier to me is the mirror image of a kid i was friends with in middle school. they acted the same, they even weirdly looked and dressed the same. the only time i've ever made the comparison between middle school kid and mike wheeler was during season two, specifically in the scene where max leaves them the note, which leads me to believe that he could have carried other things over from other aspects of the it production.

season two isn't what really concerns me though. i'm looking more at season three. the goldfinch only moved to production in albuquerque in april of 2018, which is obviously where finn wolfhard filmed all of his scenes. however, stranger things 3 started production on april 23rd, 2018, which means there might have even been crossover between finn's shooting dates if not at least a very short gap of time between them. it chapter 2 was filmed that same summer likely with some of it's own crossover with stranger things three dates. finn wolfhard's lack of scenes in the second movie are probably what made this possible, but the scenes that he did have tackled very delicate topics that had to be handled with care. most actors get their scripts for minor roles like this a few weeks out from filming, which means that finn could have had his scripts for it chapter 2 that very explicitly make it clear that he's gay during filming for stranger things 3.

so here he is with one gay character right before season 3 and one right after. he knows how to handle these things, which means that every move he's making, especially in season three, is most likely intentional, especially if he knows this far in advance about mike's sexuality. i think it's totally feasible that he does. i'm fifteen and i understand what was happening between byler during the fight scene, finn was sixteen and, being a part of this show, probably understood what was going on too even if he wasn't outright told. doing justice to a season like this when he was also having to figure out scenes like the boreo taxi scene or the arcade scene with henry bower's cousin or r + e was probably at the forefront of his mind.

in conclusion, i just have one question:

what does this mean, finn wolfhard?

For the purpose of this challenge, we're also accepting double (200 words) and triple drabbles (300 words), or you could submit a series in chapters.

Everyone participating will have one matched assignment based on ships etc. You'll have about six weeks to actually write your drabble for your assignment, which brings us to the best part of this challenge - the TREATS! Once you've done your assignment, you can peruse the list of requests and treat as many people as you like to more drabbles. They're so fast to write, and kind of addictive! So let's make sure everyone opens their gifts on Hallowe'en with a full cauldron of treats!

You are allowed to request any TWW media, but bear in mind that at least one should include a main 2017 ship for ease of matching.

1108: Facts and observations

1108 started on the 8th of November of 2015.

Jimin uploaded a video of him and Jungkook to twitter:

On the 26th of January 2016, Jk uploaded a small snippet of a song he was covering.

•Day 100

And on the 15th of February of 2016, Jk uploaded the entire song Nothing Like Us and noted to listen to the lyrics as they were expressing what he wanted to say:

In Korean culture, parents celebrate 100 days after a child is born. This is to indicate that the child made it through the first vulnerable phase in their life. In the same manner, the 100 days are celebrated by Korean couples.

And this is what Jk had to say 100 days after the 8th of November of 2015:

On 08/11/2016, a year later, Jimin posted another video of them:

On Oct. 28, 2017, Jungkook treated Jimin to a trip to Tokyo. It was because of this trip, that Jungkook released gcfTokyo on Nov. 08, 2017.

A fan used the images in the video and was able to determine the hotel and room jikook stayed at. It was room number 1108.

The video also used the song There For You by Troye Sivan:

On the 25th of April 2018, a day before the 900 day milestone, Jimin had a vlive where it was obvious he wasn't alone in the room. He kept looking to the side, laughing shyly and explained:

On August 3rd 2018, Jk posted a selfie while they were all filming BV3:

During BV3, jikook were able to look around the city alone, and have a boat date under the moonlight.

As you all may know 10:13 is also known as Jimin ssi, or Jimin time. It only makes sense that this day would be special to jikook too.

On the 16th of August 2018, Jimin tweeted a series of 3 tweets:

Jungkook was the only member that appeared in the photos with Jimin. It is also interesting to note the 2 butterfly temporary tattoos he had on his hand.

During Jungkook hosted a series of lives on White Day, 14th of March 2022. His first live was started at 8:11 pm:

During these lives, Jk changed to various outfits and had an extensive playlist. One of the songs that was included was There For You.

•Day 2855

On the 1st of September 2023, Jk hosted a short live to thank the fans for being present with him during so many birthdays. He ended his live quickly and it lasted 8:56 minutes:

My impressions

Based on Korean customs, celebrating different day milestones is typical in a Korean couple.

While some may think that jikook started dating on the 8th of November 2015, I think that's when they decided to be intimate with each other.

I feel like a jikook kiss had already happened since the last time Jimin asked Jk for a kiss publicly was in September 2015 for Jk's birthday. From there, one can only think that things proceeded quite quickly.

I think that in recent years, we have observed less mentions of 1108 because of BTS' popularity and so many fans expecting something from jikook.

It's possible that jikook has decided to not make these milestones known like they did before, but every now and then, they still reference that number. Who knows when they will do it again.

But who is counting, right?

Chinese merchant ships that appear to take an unusual interest in ocean floor infrastructure are not the only things causing disorder in the Baltic Sea. In recent months, automatic identification system (AIS) spoofing has been increasing there, too. Since these systems exist to allow ships to know where they and other ships are, manipulation that shows vessels being somewhere completely different is not a trivial matter. But Western governments can’t do very much about it—and other countries could adopt the subversive practice, too.

The Yi Peng 3, a Chinese bulk carrier, has emerged as the prime suspect in the Baltic Sea cable cuts in November. After the incident, the vessel made its way westward, toward the Atlantic but anchored in the Kattegat Strait between Denmark and Sweden. It has remained there, watched by Danish naval vessels (as the ship is in Denmark’s exclusive economic zone) and sometimes by Swedish and German coast guard vessels, as well.

But other vessels are also causing headaches for Scandinavian governments. Pekka Niittyla of the Finnish Coast Guard told Reuters that ships sailing through the Gulf of Finland in recent weeks have been turning off their AIS. Lulu Ranne, Finland’s minister of transport and communications, said Russia is likely interfering with navigation systems. That matters because the Gulf of Finland and the rest of the Baltic Sea are busy waters with narrow and congested shipping lanes.

Satellite navigation systems, which help ship crews know their location and that of other vessels, are indispensable in modern shipping and to modern economies. Last year, the United Kingdom’s government calculated that Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) provide economic benefits of 13.6 billion pounds (some $17.2 billion) each year. Ships, in turn, are required to use AIS, which signal their location. But now Russia is interfering with those systems—messing both with the satellites that send the signals and with the AIS signals sent from some of the ships themselves.

For ships going about their business in the Baltic Sea, that means they may see a ship very nearby that, according to their radar, is somewhere completely different. “This is something that is coming in the wake of the Ukraine war,” said Nils Wang, a retired admiral and former Danish Navy chief. “We’ve definitely seen an increase since February 2022. The Russians’ ability to engage in AIS spoofing and related disturbances has increased, which seems to be a result of what they’re doing in the Black Sea. They’re becoming very good at it.”

The Black Sea appears to have served as a laboratory for the AIS spoofing now taking place. In 2017, merchant vessels traveling in the Black Sea began reporting mysterious oddities in their locations. They knew roughly where they were, but their radars showed them being somewhere completely different, often on land. An alert issued by the U.S. Maritime Administration read, “A maritime incident has been reported in the Black Sea in the vicinity of position 44-15.7N, 037-32.9E on June 22, 2017 at 0710 GMT. This incident has not been confirmed. The nature of the incident is reported as interference. Exercise caution when transiting this area.”

Since then, AIS incidents linked to Russia have accelerated. In May 2022, C4ADS, a Washington-based nonprofit, reported that it had identified 9,883 suspected instances of such interference across 10 locations that affected 1,311 civilian vessel navigation systems since Feb. 2016. Last year, suspected Russian AIS spoofing created a “Z” pattern of vessels on radar screens. (“Z” is the Russian symbol for the war in Ukraine.)

Now, GNSS and AIS disturbance is growing in the Baltic Sea—hardly a coincidence. The majority of Russia’s shadow fleet—which transports Russian crude above the price cap imposed by Western governments in response to its invasion of Ukraine—travels to and from Russia’s ports in the Gulf of Finland (the Baltic Sea’s easternmost part). Since shadow vessels operate in, yes, the shadows, they take pains not to advertise their position. That means they turn off or spoof their AIS. If someone also interferes with the navigational systems themselves, significant disorder results.

Back in 2022, Danish officials discovered that mysterious GPS dysfunctions on the ferry between the Danish island of Bornholm (which is located southeast of Sweden) and mainland Denmark had been caused by jammers in two trucks. “Disrupting GNSS and GPS is one of the things Russians are extremely good at. It’s also in their interest to spoof AIS, and it’s no surprise that this is primarily taking place in the Gulf of Finland, since it’s the primarily the Finns seeing what goes in and out of Russia’s Baltic Sea ports,” said Anders Grenstad, a retired admiral and former Swedish Navy chief.

Spoofing of identification signals—which can also be achieved through attacks on GPS and similar systems—is also a way of creating disorder without fear of punishment or retaliation. (It is, in other words, perfect gray-zone aggression, which is a type of nonmilitary aggression sometimes referred to as hybrid warfare.)

“This is the Russians’ way of protesting against Sweden’s and Finland’s accession to NATO and the establishment of what people call a ‘NATO lake,’” Wang said. “They’re sending the message that even though NATO dominates the Baltic Sea, they can still engage in subversive actions.” Cheerful Western talk about a NATO lake suggests the Baltic Sea is far more peaceful than it actually is, and it risks triggering not just Russian AIS disturbance but lots of other subversive activities.

That disturbance could result in collisions precisely because ships’ real location is different from what’s on the radar. That means it’s only a matter of time before there’s an accident. AIS jamming makes navigation harder for all ships, but AIS spoofing, which entails creating a false picture, presents a real danger to other ships.

“The Russians circumvent the rules that govern shipping, which undermines the maritime order that we work hard to abide by … The only acceptable reason to switch or spoof is to avoid a piracy attack or other safety concerns,” Line Falkenberg Ollestad, an advisor at the Norwegian Shipowners Association, said.

Collisions would, of course, cause harm to the Baltic Sea’s already weakened maritime environment. “AIS is meant to increase maritime insecurity,” Grenstad said. “Instead, it could cause collisions. That poses enormous dangers to the environment … If ferries or cruise ships collide, it would cause loss of life.”

Fortunately, shipmasters are skilled professionals and often detect when something is iffy with other vessels’ radar locations. “The risk is that if you’re in waters with dense traffic like in the Danish [straits] and the Baltic [Sea], the master will be confused if his GPS doesn’t work or if he sees AIS tracks that he can’t see with radar or with the naked eye,” Wang said. “That means he has to slow down to find out what’s going on. That creates delays.”

Such delays will be exacerbated by the fact that today’s seafarers are used to sailing with digital tools like GPS and AIS. “If you can’t rely on your electronic means, you have to use manual tools, but not too many seafarers are used to that anymore,” Wang said. GPS or AIS disturbance thus risks causing delays, which means delayed arrival of cargo in every subsequent port. That will result in economic harm not just to the affected shipping lines but to countries, too.

What can be done about this menace? Not very much, because NATO is hardly going to use its military might to punish some electronic disturbance. And responsible countries, like the other Baltic Sea states, would never retaliate by, say, spoofing merchant traffic in the Caspian Sea. The spoofing in the Baltic Sea will continue and perhaps even grow, and it’s already being joined by other subversive activities like the severing of undersea cables.

When it comes to navigational interference, other countries should watch the Russians’ experiments in the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea. “This is beginning with Russia because they’re so good at it, but it could spread to China, and Iran, and other countries that have an interest in disguising their activities,” Grenstad said. “It’s incredibly perilous for the international maritime order.”

What are your thoughts on haylor meeting up in late 2016? Do you think there was a slight chance of them getting back together, and do you think they would've made it if they did get back together? I know Taylor chose the safest option, but Harrry and her didn't even seem to talk things out, so why even meet in the first place? Didn't Taylor tell him she loves someone else, too? I think they did, there are enough crumbs to give it plausible and they both spent November and December in LA and London respectively. But this is in the same time the Joe stuff was starting so who knows.

I actually answered this question very recently, so I'll just copy-paste the blurb I wrote about it from there:

FTH is “Fandom Trumps Hate”, an annual fandom creative labour [event] to raise money for non-profit organizations doing amazing things in the world to combat hatred and bigotry. It happens every February, and basically creatives sign up to offer their labour (art, writing, crafts, proofreading… it’s really open to anything that the participant is open to doing) for people to bid on, auction-style, and the winning bid goes to the creative’s chosen non-profit. You can read more about it on their FAQ on their Tumblr!

Basically, @fandomtrumpshate is similar to a silent auction, where you input your bid for a creator's labour, essentially commissioning a creative with the winning bid going to the chosen organization. It's ALL manual though (not like e-bay) so you have to pretty much keep a sharp eye on the creatives you want to make sure you get the winning bid at the end of the week. All of us creators that participate yearly in the auction do it because we WANT to make the world a better place for everyone <3

It happens at the end of every February since 2017 (created in response to the political landscape at the time [and currently, honestly]) , with bidding usually happening at the beginning of March.

They also have a sibling auction called @marveltrumpshate that I just found out about last year (and probably will participate in this year if I only do two auctions for FTH), which is SPECIFIC to the various iterations of the Marvel Multiverse <3 I THINK they're in November.

I have been participating in it with fanart for the past 5 years, and I LOVE doing it. It's fun, and it gives me a boost of confidence to see people want to bid on me.

We went from “still just getting to know each other” to full on fanfic courtesy people mag in exactly 14 days. Do you think this could mean it will be short lived? Seems to be moving fast.

I don’t know what is going to happen because I don’t know what her goal is beyond simple publicity for the movie and 1989 tv (and just in general being seen dating a man which is important for her image and for selling music) and we’ll have to wait to see how it goes. I still stand by it likely to be short lived but whether that means November or March, your guess is good as mine. I think I’m currently leaning more in the March direction as being most likely, but it could be tomorrow or it could be forever or whatever she said in Blank Space.

In case anyone’s keeping count, I also have pretty much settled on all of this being well planned out in advance, including his appearance at the July KC tour in the first place. I wouldn’t be surprised if it had been planned for a very long time, just like Matty was.

1) have them linked publicly (for Travis it was the concert and friendship bracelet digits story). Sit back and watch the reaction, and give it a bit of a push in the right direction. With joe this was all done retroactively, after their relationship was “accidentally” leaked we found out they hung out in Oct. With Matty this was done over the course of late 2022-early 2023.

2) soft launch it by announcing an appearance ahead of time to get all eyes on it, while planting stories that they’ve hung out a few times, to establish a timeline back into the summer (august 1ish). Have her publicly meet his mom and get her approval. Again, with joe this was done retroactively, where we found out she had pined over him all summer and their anniversary was sept 28, and we’ve even now got a hook up on Aril 29. For Matty, she met his mom in stage 1), then this stage was her announcing the break up on Matty’s bday, and then planting stories that they were dating, that he’d go to Nash and there’d be PDA, and then stories that she thought maybe he was the one who got away, and had quietly been in love with him for almost a decade.

3) launch, but keep it casual. There’s still time to back out if things go poorly. People have time to get used to it and talk about “are they or aren’t they” serious, and you can control the narrative via media outlets and inside sources to set people up the way you want them to lean, all without even having them seen together more than once or twice. Set up a casual photo of them that seems to taken without their knowledge in a private moment. (Balcony with joe, private club with Matty, after party in KC with Travis.) This is far as she got with Matty then she cut her losses. Or I guess you could argue they had spilled into step 4). It’s a spectrum. With joe, again this was done retroactively but also the summer of 2017, no one knew how serious they were until secret sessions/rep came out.

4) hard launch during movie opening weekend. WE ARE HERE. For Matty this was probably supposed to happen during speak now release. But who knows. For joe it was reputation’s release.

5) Optional: push things hard until enough people seem to be generally getting tired of it. I assume this is next with Travlor. No idea how long this will last. Days or weeks I think. With joe this wasn’t a big deal because of the privacy narrative. No one could get tired of something they never saw (though they could get bored of it which was ok at that stage but boredom is the opposite of what she wants now.) With Travis I think this stage will be more of an important thing. If you go back to Calvin, this stage was most of their relationship.

6) cool things down so then people talk about “are they or aren’t they still together?” This was a constant with joe. I think this was just at the end for Calvin and the answer was they weren’t still together.

7) relaunch so everyone is excited to see them again. Steps 6-7 happened a lot with Joe naturally because of the privacy narrative. Will travlor get to this stage? I think so but it will be much accelerated. Like nothing for a week and people will wonder. Then, bang, she’s there again. Something like that.

8) ongoing: periodically lightly escalate the seriousness of the relationship. We’re already in this stage and it will continue. There is current chatter about her house shopping in KC. The usual (she actually BOUGHT a house one time for a man. And remember her Scottish castle, and how she and joe were constantly buying a London house for 6 years including furniture shopping right before they broke up?) And there will be constant talk of settling down and getting engaged.

9) and on and on until it ends. We could zoom through these stage over the next 2 weeks, or in seemingly endless loop of stages 6-9 for two years. No way to know until it ends or they get married, have 10 kids and teach them how to dream.

10) optional: black swan event. All bets are off.

I think it’s likely she’ll go to a couple of more games, and be seen spending as much time with him as reasonably possible before her next tour date. They need to “get to know each other” and “enjoy this fun honeymoon stage while they’re both smitten” while she can. Keep in mind her SA tour section is only 3 weeks long, and he could even potentially go to Argentina on his off week, so that’s not really enough time for the “their busy schedules were too much” excuse. Possible but you know not as likely. Then she’s off for for a couple of months again. Imagine the fun they can have over Christmas. We’ll skip the island vacation around new years or star-studded New Year’s party this time because he’ll still be playing football, so imagine her at playoff games. She’s getting literal millions of dollars in almost free publicity from this, and no matter how many people want to say she’s getting negative attention or being over-exposed or whatever, I don’t see it that way at all. It’s going very very well. All for the price of a few hours of her time and some jet fuel. So, like I didn’t see any reason for her to end it with joe because he was serving his purpose, I see no reason for this to end. Until she has reached her unknown-to-us goal.

There is a lot I can’t see or know, so these are just my best guesses based on what we’ve seen so far and what I see on their schedule for the next few months, and of course, my belief that this relationship not real.

The “movement,” in turn, while it recruits from among students and other self-motivated radicals willing to put their bodies on the line, relies heavily on the funding of progressive donors and nonprofits connected to the upper reaches of the Democratic Party. Take the epicenter of the nationwide protest movement, Columbia University. According to reporting in the New York Post, the Columbia encampment was principally organized by three groups: Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), and Within Our Lifetime (WOL). Let’s take each in turn.

JVP is, in essence, the “Jewish”-branch of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, backed by the usual big-money progressive donors—including some, like the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, that were instrumental in selling Obama’s Iran Deal to the public. JVP and its affiliated political action arm, JVP Action, have received at least $650,000 from various branches of George Soros’ philanthropic empire since 2017, $441,510 from the Kaphan Foundation (founded by early Amazon employee Sheldon Kaphan), $340,000 from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and smaller amounts from progressive donors such as the Quitiplas Foundation, according to reporting from the New York Post and NGO Monitor, a pro-Israel research institute. JVP has also received nearly $1.5 million from various donor-advised funds—which allow wealthy clients to give anonymously through their financial institutions—run through the charitable giving arms of Fidelity Investments, Charles Schwab, Morgan Stanley, Vanguard, and TIAA, according to NGO Monitor’s review of those institutions’ tax documents.

SJP, by contrast, is an outgrowth of the Islamist networks dissolved during the U.S. government’s prosecution of the Holy Land Foundation (HLF) and related charities for fundraising for Hamas. SJP is a subsidiary of an organization called American Muslims for Palestine (AMP); SJP in fact has no “formal corporate structure of its own but operates as AMP’s campus brand,” according to a lawsuit filed last week against AJP Educational Fund, the parent nonprofit of AMP. Both AMP and SJP were founded by the same man, Hatem Bazian, a Palestinian academic who formerly fundraised for KindHearts, an Islamic charity dissolved in 2012 pursuant to a settlement with the U.S. Treasury, which froze the group’s assets for fundraising for Hamas (KindHearts did not admit wrongdoing in the settlement). And several of AMP’s senior leaders are former fundraisers for HLF and related charities, according to November congressional testimony from former U.S. Treasury official Jonathan Schanzer. An ongoing federal lawsuit by the family of David Boim, an American teenager killed in a Hamas terrorist attack in 1996, goes so far as to allege that AMP is a “disguised continuance” and “legal alter-ego” of the Islamic Association for Palestine, was founded with startup money from current Hamas official Musa Abu Marzook and dissolved alongside HLF. AMP has denied it is a continuation of IAP.

Today, however, National SJP is legally a “fiscal sponsorship” of another nonprofit: a White Plains, New York, 501(c)(3) called the WESPAC Foundation. A fiscal sponsorship is a legal arrangement in which a larger nonprofit “sponsors” a smaller group, essentially lending it the sponsor’s tax-exempt status and providing back-office support in exchange for fees and influence over the sponsorship’s operations. For legal and tax purposes, the sponsor and the sponsorship are the same entity, meaning that the sponsorship is relieved of the requirement to independently disclose its donors or file a Form 990 with the IRS. This makes fiscal sponsorships a “convenient way to mask links between donors and controversial causes,” according to the Capital Research Center. Donors, in other words, can effectively use nonprofits such as WESPAC to obscure their direct connections to controversial causes.

Something of the sort appears to be happening with WESPAC. Run by the market researcher Howard Horowitz, WESPAC reveals very little about its donors, although scattered reporting and public disclosures suggest that the group is used as a pass-through between larger institutions and pro-Palestinian radicals. Since 2006, for instance, WESPAC has received more than half a million in donations from the Elias Foundation, a family foundation run by the private equity investor James Mann and his wife. WESPAC has also received smaller amounts from Grassroots International (an “environmental” group heavily funded by Thousand Currents), the Sparkplug Foundation (a far-left group funded by the Wall Street fortune of Felice and Yoram Gelman), and the Bafrayung Fund, run by Rachel Gelman, an heir to the Levi Strauss fortune and the sister of Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman. (A self-described “abolitionist,” Gelman was featured in a 2020 New York Times feature on “The Rich Kids Who Want to Tear Down Capitalism.”) In 2022, WESPAC also received $97,000 from the Tides Foundation, the grant-making arm of the Tides Nexus.

WESPAC, however, is not merely the fiscal sponsor of the Hamas-linked SJP but also the fiscal sponsor of the third group involved in organizing the Columbia protests, Within Our Lifetime (WOL), formerly known as New York City SJP. Founded by the Palestinian American lawyer Nerdeen Kiswani, a former activist with the Hunter College and CUNY chapters of SJP, WOL has emerged over the past seven months as perhaps the most notorious antisemitic group in the country, and has been banned from Facebook and Instagram for glorifying Hamas. A full list of the group’s provocations would take thousands of words, but it has been the central organizing force in the series of “Flood”-themed protests in New York City since Oct. 7, including multiple bridge and highway blockades, a November riot at Grand Central Station, the vandalism of the New York Public Library, and protests at the Rockefeller Center Christmas-tree lighting. In addition to their confrontational tactics, WOL-led protests tend to have a few other hallmarks. These include eliminationist rhetoric directed at the Jewish state—such as Arabic chants of “strike, strike, Tel Aviv”; the prominent display of Hezbollah flags and other insignia of explicitly Islamist resistance; the presence of masked Arab street muscle; and the antisemitic intimidation of counterprotesters by said masked Arab street muscle.

WOL’s role appears to be that of shock troops, akin to the role played by black block militants on the anarchist side of the ledger. WOL is, however, connected to more seemingly “mainstream” elements of the anti-Israel movement. Abdullah Akl, a prominent WOL leader—indeed, the man leading the “strike Tel Aviv” chants in the video linked above—is also listed as a “field organizer” on the website of MPower Change, the “advocacy project” led by Linda Sarsour. MPower Change, in turn, is a fiscal sponsorship of NEO Philanthropy, another large progressive clearinghouse. NEO Philanthropy and its 501(c)(4) “sister,” NEO Philanthropy Action Fund, have received more than $37 million from Soros’ Open Society Foundations since 2021 alone, as well as substantial funding from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Ford Foundation, and the Tides Foundation.

Despite Universal touting its upcoming Psych boxed set — which includes all eight seasons of the James Roday Rodriguez-Dule Hill farce as well as the three revival pics — as the franchise’s “complete” library, a Peacock source tells TVLine that discussions are continuing to bring Shawn and Gus back for a fourth movie adventure.

Over the summer, Rodriguez told TVLine that “there are flickers of light” surrounding a follow-up to 2021’s Psych 3: This Is Gus, revealing that a fourth film was tentatively scheduled to go into production last year.

“The only reason that Psych 4 didn’t happen last year was scheduling,” explained Rodriguez, who in addition to his starring role also co-wrote all three movies with Psych creator Steve Franks. “It was all lined up, and we would’ve made an announcement, but then we just couldn’t pull it together in time with everybody going off to do [other projects]. So, now we just kind of have to regroup, wait for Peacock to decide that they want to pay for it again, and hopefully we’ll be good.”
