On January 1st we posted about Audio Antihero's release from Nosferatu D2. While that band is no more, the Parker brothers are still making music as My Best Unbeaten Brother (Croydon, England).
At the time I mentioned how Nosferatu D2 reminded me of a cross between The Wedding Present and The Fall. My Best Unbeaten Brother immediately made me think of these comps, but this new band's music tends to be a bit more melodic.
"Slayer On a Sunny Day" is one of 15 tracks on the compilation "20 Years of Joy Vol. 2". This compilation celebrates the 20th anniversary of the blog/radio station Joyzine. While there isn't a traditional physical release, there is a card with a download card available. I've listened to this compilation and really enjoyed a lot - most notably My Best Unbeaten Brother and Sergeant Buzfuz.
Audio Antihero will be releasing "Pessimistic Pizza" in digital format at the end of June. Hopefully Jamie will find a way to make a physical release.

Gareth Campesinos' Records of 2009
December 15th, 2009
NB. YEAR, NOT DECADE
Pitchfork Media (y’know those guys?) asked me to list them my top 10 records of the year (as featured here), but I thought I’d post it on the blog and all. This was written for a different audience than you lot, obv, so forgive the fact that I’m pretending I can write about music.
I’ve included links to listen to the bands, and to buy the records, so perhaps DO THE RIGHT THING, if you like what you hear. Nice one.
10. Get Color – HEALTH
I’ve spent a lot of time this year, sat in vans, falling asleep listening to this, and then waking with a start and thinking I’d just died. Up until this I’d loved HEALTH live but never got on with them on record. This is just incredible though.
9. Two Dancers – Wild Beasts
You ever get that where for whatever silly reason you have the wrong impression of a band, then something causes you to go back and listen to everything they’ve recorded, and then you realise they’ve always been amazing and you’ve always been a moron? And then you realise you’ve missed so many opportunities to watch them play and even SPEAK to them because you’ve played festivals next to them for the past two years? Yeh, this. Also: best light show I have seen in a long time.
8. Grace And The Bigger Picture – Johnny Foreigner
Nobody can really say that our bands sound alike any more. There’s this one song on here called “More Heart, Less Tongue”, which as far as I can tell is about how impossible it is to maintain any sort of normal relationship whilst in a touring band. You go away and your friends make new friends, and the person you liked gets further away and the stolen moments weigh too hard on your conscience, and you return home to nothing, starting again, if you can. Alexei is my bro. There are very few bands to live your life by these days, but JoFo, you can rely on.
7. Yeah So – Slow Club
I am desperate to play shows with Slow Club. Rebecca’s is my favourite voice of the year, and their live shows are life affirming. Lyrically as well, I don’t think they get anywhere near the credit they deserve. Really beautiful, touching stuff.
6. Dance Mother – Telepathe
I hope the fact this came out so early in the year doesn’t mean too many people forget this in their year end lists. I spent a lot of time in the early part of this year, gardening in a grey, rainy graveyard, and listened to this album pretty much on repeat. It was oddly appropriate.
5. Tear Jerky EP – Sparky Deathcap
Rob supports Newcastle United, and when we’re allowed he plays as the eighth member of our band. One day when we’re rich and famous he’ll join the band full time. He toured with us recently and we played as his backing band on some songs. I find it horribly awkward when I really love a friends’ music. In the past a blossoming friendship has caused me to like the persons music less, or at least to listen to it less, but there’s no sign of that happening with Rob’s songs. He tells the most heartbreaking stories, but always with a glint in his eye. Best song writer in the UK today as far as I’m concerned.
4. Love Comes Close – Cold Cave
But yet so far. This, along with Cremations, has made for an incredible year for Cold Cave.
3. The Spoils – Zola Jesus
I might have to take back what I said about Rebecca up there. I don’t even know what to say about this. Nika Roza is an incredible talent. I am dying to see what she comes up with next.
2.We’re Gonna Walk Around This City With Our Headphones On To Block Out The Noise – Nosferatu D2
Finally released a couple of years after the band’s break up (their last ever show was actually supporting us, which fills me with a mixture of pride and guilt). I think this record perfectly depicts disillusionment with the place you live or the relationship you’re in, but are completely unable to bring yourself to get away from. Brothers Adam and Ben Parker, Adam whose drumming is up there with any drummer I’ve ever heard, and Ben whose lyrics are perfect in their hopelessness. This has finally seen release as a fan, Audio Antihero, took it upon himself to put up the money to release the record. A noble pursuit and one that, if it’s successful, will see us as the winners.
1. Fleurs – Former Ghosts
I’ve followed Freddy since he was This Song Is A Mess But So Am I. When we were getting together contributions for the We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed ‘zine in 2008 I got in touch with him through an email on his blog, asking if he’d be able to contribute something. It never worked out. I think Freddy was happy, and kind of lacking a creative outlet at the time, but a couple of months later he got back in touch with a message:
“maybe you would be interested in this or not. i’m doing a new synthpop project. hope you are into it”.
That was November 2008, and just those initial demos were amazing. What’s come since has been mindblowing for me. Freddy’s made an album centred around one crippling relationship, with bare bones honesty and emotion, and then with Nika Roza and Jamie Stewart’s flourishes on top making it sound beautiful. It must have near killed him to write, but I’m hopeful that what he’s created will make times easier for many, many others. Album of the year, hands down.

Nosferatu D2- Springsteen
If I told you there was a singular more important band or record to Alex Chilltown than Nosferatu D2 and “We're Gonna Walk Around This City With Our Headphones On To Block Out The Noise” then I would be lying.
The first Chilltown stuff I wrote that I really felt connected into the idea of what I want to do and the whole Chilltown minimal style came from trying to rip off the way Ben Parker plays guitar on this (albeit with way more guitar pedals).
I find it hard to word why, but in my opinion this is probably the greatest post-punk record ever made, it’s start to finish, no filler, every song absolute catharsis, instruments that switch between playing with each other to sounding like a fight. It’s probably anxiety made audible. Lyrically Ben has always been just one of the best “stream of consciousness but focused” writers probably ever. Adam’s drumming is literally quite ridiculously good.
Nothing about this record on paper should work but it does and it was about 10-12 years ahead of when anybody could have made any money from it. I love it and I love it more for the fact it will never get the pitchfork documentary it deserves.
Springsteen was the first song I heard but I literally could pick any of them.
From a practical point of view, this record changed our lives, if it wasn’t for this record I certainly wouldn’t be doing Chilltown the way I am and Jamie from Audio Antihero who put it out, has helped me immeasurably at every step of the way of making music and his kindness cannot be overstated. He’s a very good egg who keeps putting out great records.

Bungie don’t do this to me
Guys Ir Yut/Omnigul is in the game. The Nightmare Wizard in Haunted Forest.
It’s the Deathsinger model from D1.
Bungie stop doing this.
First you came for the Dankblade. Now you have Omnigul. I swear on the Traveler. GIVE US THE DREADNOUGHT OR RIOT
Really, there’s not enough Hive. And I mean Hive Hive, not Taken. I miss them terribly. I know, I know. There’s all the meta-stuff about Savathun and Incaru (I mean I’ve been shitposting about it) but i miss actually fighting the Hive. Where are they in D2? Fucking around on Titan and that’s it. Jetsam of Saturn punched me in the throat with that crashed tombship. It felt so much like the Dreadnought, just a little bit, that I was dying.
Oh Mars too I suppose. There’s Escalation Protocol, and that shit was dope. I get excited whenever Nokris comes up because that’s a proper Hive strike. It’s still the bitchmode watered down ‘I’m the least favorite child because I’m a fucking nerd’ strike because Nokris lives in a fucking ice cavern like a scrub.
But I want REAL hive back. Not some chilly holes in the ground, but some right and proper HIVE.
Give me Swarm Princes, give me summoning rituals, give me gothic chitinous architecture. Give me Knights with tattered ribbons hanging from their shoulders, give me shrines and give me rifts and give me HIVE GIVE IT TO ME BUNGIE WHERE ARE THE HIVE
GIVE ME HIVE OR GIVE ME DEATH
though considering who we’re talking about i guess its
GIVE ME HIVE AND GIVE ME DEATH
because seriously, fuck the cabal. they’re the worst goddamn enemies and aesthetic in destiny and those dimestore 5th element looking motherfuckers can pack the fuck back up in their gaudy overblinged pimp-my-ride spacefish shit and get the fuck out of my solar system because you’re shit your style is shit, your ships are shit your ranks are shit your emperor is a fat robot lunatic your psions look like nosferatu sucking a lemon your consul was probably a molestor your dominus licked windows as a hobby and your shields are the bitch version of the hive shields because surprise surprise the hive didnt put a giant FUCKING SHOOT ME HERE button on their shields for their enemies to notice and shoot and then act all shocked and staggered that someone could possibly figure out the tactical flaw that is highlighted in glowing fucking orange right in their faces but then i remember oh right this new shield design is red legion which is led by dominus dumbass so no wonder it’s so fucking inept speaking of notice how the red legion now have two crit spots too chalk up another win for scipio afridumbass here well fucking done ghaul and you know what else you suck at its making dropships lets consider of all the dropships in destiny 2 which are the only ones that can get shot down surprise surprise its the threshers the cabal have wow gee what a shock that he’d dorp the fucking ball again yknow what just put the siege dancers back in charge again those stone cold ass motherfuckers went up against the vex with nothing but dirt boots a slugthrower and bad attitude and managed to hold on, meanwhile dipshit mcgillicuddy brings his entire fuck off legion and a starkiller ripoff and manages to lose everything because all he does is whine in a tower to an old pedo while his entire army gets cut off at the legs by a single extremely pissed off guardian at least tu’arc nutted up and attacked us personally rather than bitchmoding in a giant ship for ten fucking missions CHRIST i hate the cabal even your emperor sucks and i’ll fight anyone who says he’s interesting he’s got the backstory thats basically the dimestore fischerprice version of the books of sorrow which for calus would be more like the buffet of stupid because hes the size of at least two belugas and rides an overgrown metal fish around because his egregiously stupid ass got couped so hard out of his throne that he got chucked to the edge of reality can you suck harder or fail harder and yet we’re supposed to be proving our strength to you jesus christ lets flip the tables here what exactly can you offer besides the best barbecue planetoid recipe which lets be honest only the fallen would really be interested.

Diablo 2 My hands revenge the paladin's attack
Years ago I wanted to build a Paladin with two hands for revenge at 1.10
At that time, there were many board friends who had the experience of using it safely.
My younger brother also raised some questions.
Against that background, the Holy Knight's flaw of revenge with both hands was very big.
By the middle of 1.10, new rune costumes were released, such as confidence, dreams, etc.
Nobody seems interested in discussing how the two-handed Vengeance Paladin's warfare strengthens.
Recent D2 updates allow characters to reset skill points.
There is a ray of hope in my heart. Perhaps there is an answer to years of doubts.
Because I haven't played with new characters for years on b.net
Updated, reset the level 95 Paladin skill of 1.09.
So I lit revenge 20, faith 20, electricity 20, ice 20, fire 19. I wonder why there are no points.
My fire 19 is not full yet, and it's impossible to play up to 96. Let's leave it alone.
The weapon first drops the thunder hammer and the brainstorm hammer of the Hurricane.
There's no doom thunder hammer, let's talk about it later.
Firstly, 15ias/38ed with ghost head, sacred and resolute, hand-in/crushing and 20ias double-suction CB hand-made
Dajun Meat Duck Cream, Double Absorption Ring, Ghost Fire Ring, Long String, Ray, 10ias Nosferatu's Coil Waist, etc.
The speed of revenge attack naturally requires confidence in Rogge, give her explosive Glory + set 30ias kbcb Giant Skull head
Re-examine the attack speed computer
14 fan ram needs 90 IAS to revenge 10 frames, zeal needs 55 IAS to 6 frames
Guns need 100 IAS to revenge 11 frames, zeal needs 80 IAS to 5 frames
My confidence is that Rogge has only 13 fans.
Redhammer also needs 95ias to revenge 10 frames, zeal needs 60ias to 6 frames
OK, no problem.
It's packed, tested, and it took hours. .
Um... The gun took revenge too slowly. It became a Zeal knight with both hands and broke into the cold palace.~~
Redhammer revenge + Zeal is not bad, the predecessors'experience is correct.
Now the problem is that the Paladin with both hands is too defensive.
When you meet Fan, Might monsters, stick to the floor.
Or a group of monsters, and dangerous, very depressed. > ____________<
I now understand why predecessors chose doom thunder hammer as the vengeful Knight of doom.
I also want to get one, Gao Fu has, as long as you find the inlay.
Unexpectedly, it took weeks for cow chaos Baal to find the hammer
The holes are 12346 holes, but not 5 holes.
No levy, no game levy, the results show are invisible 5 holes, misshapen ah
www.items7.com offered a 24/7 customer service for d2 items Buying In order to offer you the most satisfied online shopping service, we provide 24/7 customer service for players to
buy d2 items
.
But there are 404ed dead thunder hammers.
All that time I dreamed about doom thunder hammer
At the end of the day, when we are about to give up,
A foreigner asked me if I wanted doom thunder hammer for 5 holes.
He has. He's willing to sell me. God, I got it.
Also bought token to reset skill points again
Faith only needs to be pointed to 18, with + life offsive board * 2, ruin symbol torch King = level 25 faith
Fire 20, salvation 1 (with revenge bonus)
No gun, so DEX doesn't need it, STR / vit is high
During this period, I changed to single dream, with the ability of resisting electricity added, +electric injury, confusion and defensive is very useful.
Doom Thunder Hammer has Ice Resistance bonus + Ice Damage. Spirit of Holy Ice strengthens defensiveness.
There are 45 IAS at the end of the day, 30 IAS at the waist and hand, and 20 IAS at the top of the monarch.
The results were good. The honeymoon lasted for a few days, but the power was weakened.
The PI herd of demons Baal run encounters is still dangerous because they can't draw back blood.
Well, try it with Zogura's hand. Ha, you can't take it off once you wear it.
Life tap is better than St. Ice's Reiki because the thunder hammer of doomsday can't reach the speed of revenge, so we have to put it in the warehouse first.
Finally, it takes 14 fans to confide in Rogge and my dead thunder hammer to reach the speed of revenge.
It's going crazy. It's the end.
Fortunately, 15 fans with big bows were soon bought at a high price, and Rogge was at the top of the bow.
The final assembly after testing:
Dead thunder hammer
Paramilitary Brain Hammer (75 CB + 15 CB for king)
Sacred fortitude, Zhuogu hand in hand
Dajun Meat-eating Duck Cream, Ghost Fire Ring/Double Absorption Ring, 10ias Nosferatu's Coil Waist, etc.
Resistance to fire 85, ice 85, electricity 90, poison 75, FHR to 48% or 75%, casualties, etc.
Fighting power: 31,000 revenge, 15,000 zeal, 50% ds, 90 CB deputy,
Confusion/life tap greatly strengthens defense.
When we reach the apex of vengeance, we can hardly describe it in words.
I've never played such a destructive paladin.
When ppl is low, from white-character monster to Xiao Wang, it is broken.
Completely subverting my image of the Paladin,
When you play with it, you often feel "He X's, hello, fierce."
It's natural to think of the name of the Revenge Paladin's Rebellion.
So in my palace of knights, the vengeful Paladin has absolutely a place, and I give it high praise.
There are also anti-fire spirit can help teammates to achieve anti-fire 95, often thanked by teammates in the demon group, there are points.
PS: Diablo2 was the first to advocate revenge on paladins with both hands.
If he had been playing D2, he would have finished the test long ago, instead of waiting for his younger brother to try it slowly now.

Back in the summer of 2016 I wrote this:
aaaaaaaaaaand finally, something a little bit different. A 7″ single, or E.P. really, that came out on Record Store Day this year but was still in the store and, as I am a bit of a sucker for Soundtracks, I really had to pick it up and take it home.
Record Store Day celebrates German cinematic culture this year with this special edition silver colored vinyl 7″ single of ‘Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (translated as Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror) from the 1922 German Expressionist horror film. The original score composed by Hans Erdmann has been lost, and what remains is a reconstitution of the score as it was played in 1922. James Bernard, composer of the soundtracks of many Hammer horror films in the late 1950s and 1960s, has written a score for a reissue. This particular 7” version contains audio performed in 1997 by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Nic Raine. Limited to 3000 numbered copies. Side A Omens of Nosferatu The Pursuit of Knock
Side B The Ship of Doom
It’s a wonderful thing and, although it was £7.00 I feel it was worth it and, of course, it wasn’t my money paying for it!
Below is a video that somebody made of it playing on their turntable.
So that was then. The full soundtrack came out and every time I went to the store I saw it but at £32 it was too rich for my blood, until they had a sale and I got it for £10 off. I just played it again this evening, here is a bit of it:
This resulted in the following exchange:
Wife: What’s this? I sounds like murder music
Verian: It is, it’s from the 1922 Nosferatu film, in blood red vinyl.
Wife: Why are you listening to that? Well you can turn it off, I’m putting the telly on.
This is where the extremely cheap bluetooth transmitter that I bought came in handy, it’s not ideal, but it does a job.
The entire film can be watched below, and I’d recommend it, although I am unsure which score was used for it.
You could also watch the film at http://nonsilentfilm.com where it has been the subject of a new sound design, so that it is no longer a silent movie, using Getty Images sound library. To be honest, I think it spoils it as at times it sounds like The Sims, but it was still a clever piece of work.
Album Tracklist A1 Overture – Omens Of Nosferatu 3:03 A2 Hutter And Ellen 2:11 A3 Ellen’s Disquiet 5:12 A4 Journey To Orlok’s Castle 6:04
B1 In The Castle 5:21 B2 Ellen Sleep-Walks 6:10 B3 Hutter’s Discovery 3:24
C1 Loading The Coffins 3:58 C2 Ellen By The Seashore 3:23 C3 The Ship Of Doom 5:19 C4 Orlok’s Lair 2:43
D1 The Plague 5:55 D2 The Pursuit Of Knock 2:47 D3 The Power Of Orlok / The Death Of Ellen 7:34
Rating: 9.0

I've been exchanging emails with Jamie from Audio Antihero for a few days, and he turned me onto to this release, Nosferatu D2. Brothers Adam and Ben Parker from Croydon, England issued this small masterpiece back in 2006. And I guess there are hints of bands like The Futureheads and Art Brut here.
But, I don't know what it is about the Parker's music, but I can't help think of a great mashup of The Wedding Present and The Fall. While Nosferatu D2 is no more, the brothers have a new band named My Best Unbeaten Brother. Jamie says he's working with the band on a possible release.

We're gonna walk around this city with our headphones on to block out the noise
October 15th, 2009
Well this totally fucks up my provisional list of Albums of The Year…
Just moments ago I received an email that read like this:
“I came across your blog mentioning Nosferatu D2 as one of your favourite bands & their infamous last gig with you. I thought you may like to know that for the longest of time and noblest of reasons, I’ve been forming a label around releasing their debut album…Tomorrow morning brings the day that the stock arrives (and floods my bedroom)”.
So finally, one of my favourite records of all time gets a tangible CD release.
Nosferatu D2 were brothers Ben and Adam, from Croydon, South London. I’d not want to attempt to explain what they sound like, because I couldn’t do it justice. But Adam is louder and more adept than three men behind the drums, and Ben is one of my absolute favourite lyricists. I honestly believe if enough people had heard his lyrics, he’d be rightly held up as one of the absolute best writers of our generation.
1. Broken Tamagotchi 2. A Footnote 3. Colonel Parker 4. Flying Things and Pests 5. I Killed Burt Bacharach 6. 2 People, 0 Superpowers 7. Mojo Top 100 8. Springsteen 9. We’ll Play The Power of Love by Frankie Goes to Hollywood A Thousand Times Tonight 10. It’s Christmas Time (For God’s Sake)
If you have a spare £6 and the desire to hear some of the most vitriolic, truthful story telling you’re likely ever to hear, then I recommend you follow this link.
I tip my hat to Audio Antihero for making the bold step of releasing this album, and really hope this helps Nosferatu D2 reach the wider audience their songs have always deserved.

A Superhit A Day #6: Superman Revenge Squad - "When Everyone's Dead"
Nice bit of cross promotion (SYNERGY!) here as my man Ben Parker (Superman Revenge Squad) will be opening proceedings tonight at the Benjamin Shaw Album Launch but don't let that put you off. I'm the scumbag, not him.
I've always been crazy about this song, I think it's so pretty, clever and funny but best of the bunch is that it's all the right kinds of desperate and I love that.
Although, when you've listened to this song 6000 times like I have the endless cackling in the background begins to drive you (me) insane...but you may well be less of a joyless fuck than I am. Either way, brilliant song.
