Northern Island: Sky's promise Prologue 

I take a few steps up before opening my eyes. Everything was a scattered memory to me. I was sleeping in the shed with my friends, and the next, I’m in a forest dimly lit by the moonlight. 

“Where am I? How did I get here?” I stop and look around to see if anyone else was around. No one. Just then, my fur stands and my ears perk back. Normally at times, I would feel fearless and not an ounce of fear would overwhelm me. But this was different. Every gear within me stiffened, and my steam ran cold. I turned my head slowly and my eyes widened from shock and fear. 

Behind me, was a dark silver wolf with beaming red eyes the color of blood. It’s teeth was sharp as needles and the color was similar to black obsidian.  It’s claws dark and covered in shadows. 

“W-What are you?!” My mind races with so many questions but my only instinct is to run. I turn my head back around and run the other way. From a distance, I could hear the wolf running after me. With every step I took, I would feel myself getting farther and farther away from the dark silver wolf. I perked my ears back to hear if the wolf was still behind me. All I could hear was the silence of the forest. I look behind me and see no one. I slow down my pace but before I could stop, I fall off a cliff and land in dark water.  I get up in pain and hold my shoulder. 

“Okay, that hurt!” I get up and get a look around at my surroundings. The trees are now glowing in the moon light and I can see the moon more clearer now that before. 

“Come my little one, and I will show you the way back”, A voice said to me. I don’t know what came over me, but I started to walk to an opening close to the water. I push away the branches and leaves and see a geat big pond down the hill. Down below, I see a pure white wolf, her eyes a glowing silver. I walk down the hill and come close to the wolf. 

“Who are you?” The white wolf smiles and floats up. She floats back to the pond and walks on the water. 

“Your Journey, is about to beguin, little one. Follow the light and you shall never know the darkness that lies in wait.” The white wolf steps forward and light comes from the pond and blinds me. All is darkness after that.

Ga'ga karisu, Saipan Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus hiwae) is a critically endangered species found in the Northern Mariana Islands. Though few remain due to habitat loss, they fill the air with their rich melodic songs in those places where they can still hold on.

Their closest relative, the Nightingale Reed-Warbler of Guam, is extinct due to habitat loss and the invasive brown tree snake.

Taiwan reports Chinese balloon found on northern island

The islet where it was found, Tungyin, is part of the Matsu island ground lying just off the coast of China's Fujian province.

TAIPEI: Taiwan's Defense Ministry says a Chinese weather balloon landed on one of its outlying islands, amid U.S. accusations that such craft have been dispatched worldwide to spy on Washington and its allies. The ministry's statement on Thursday said the balloon carried equipment registered to a state-owned electronics company in the northern city of Taiyuan.

The islet where it was found, Tungyin, is part of the Matsu island ground lying just off the coast of China's Fujian province.

Taiwan maintained control of the islands after the sides split in 1949 amid civil war and they are considered a first line of defense should China make good on its threats to bring Taiwan under its control by force if necessary.

Calls and messages sent to the company identified in the report, Taiyuan Wireless (Radio) First Factory Ltd., went unanswered. Information on the equipment was written in the simplified Chinese characters used on the mainland rather than the traditional on Taiwan, the ministry said.

China regularly sends military aircraft and warships into Taiwan air identification zone and across the middle line of the Taiwan Strait. That has prompted Taiwan to boost military purchases from the U.S., expand domestic production of local planes, submarines and fighting ships, and extend compulsory military service for all males.

Washington is Taiwan's closest military and diplomatic ally, despite a lack of formal ties, which were cut in 1979. Beijing protests strongly over all contacts between the island and the U.S., but its aggressive diplomacy has helped build strong bipartisan support for Taipei on Capitol Hill.

On Thursday, President Joe Biden said the U.S. is developing "sharper rules" to track, monitor and potentially shoot down unknown aerial objects, following three weeks of high-stakes drama sparked by the discovery of a suspected Chinese spy balloon transiting much of the country.

Biden has directed national security adviser Jake Sullivan to lead an "interagency team" to review U.S. procedures after the U.S. shot down the Chinese balloon, as well as three other objects that Biden said the U.S. now believes were most likely "benign" objects launched by private companies or research institutions.

While not expressing regret for downing the three still-unidentified objects, Biden said he hoped the new rules would help "distinguish between those that are likely to pose safety and security risks that necessitate action and those that do not."

small selkie!frin concept facts (may not be final, obvi) • Siffrins hair is VERY fluffy and soft! its because of the selkie traits, for the most part (i like to think that the northern island selkies have thicker 'fur' due to it being colder(?)) • Siffrin hides their tail by positioning it to be against his back, and binding the area where the fins split to the back of his chest area. He doesnt remove his cloak often unless he knows hes alone because of this • Siffrin has hand and feet paws!! these paws are hidden by their gloves and boots respectively • Due to siffrins protectiveness over their sealskin, his family thinks that he doesnt like being touched in general. over time when he starts to trust them, he grows to have more of a yearning for touch, despite them still thinking that he doesnt wish to be touched • Siffrin is a darkless selkie! their seal form however, has two small lightless patches that look similar to stars, on his chest and the center of the fin split area! (the fin split star is also on his humanoid forms tail, but yah) //note; most of the northern islanders sealskin/fur is darkless, but sometimes has a lightless shade (the king for example has a lightless shade, but dyes it to keep something related to the island) • Siffrin didnt hide their selkie features (tail, paws, etc) originally, until locals near where he washed up started to point out just how strange it was. he learned to keep it secret, then, and hides them as best as he can(edited)
