HHP Chapter 13 Part 1
Here we go! Chapter 13! I love this chapter, i think chapters 11 (though it pained me...) 12, and 13 are my favorite. sorry this isnt proofread. I just was so excited to get it to you guys.
“Ah you look beautiful babe. My beautiful fiancé.” Sunghoon claims as his eyes narrow with admiration upon seeing Vicky, his fiancé.
“Thanks babe. Ready to head out? What time was our reservation again?” Vicky responds back, as she tenderly kisses his cheek and holds on to his hand, allowing him to guide her down the stairway of his lavish two-story apartment.
“We got time. It’s not for another hour, wanna go out for a walk on the boardwalk?” he asks. She nods in response.
Taking the elevator down, he tells her to wait for him near the entrance where the residential guard stands firmly checking for proof of residence in the exclusive estate. Waiting as her gown gently waves against the gentle breeze, her phone rings. Looking at the screen, the caller ID reflects “Ethan”.
“Ethan?”  She answers, someone confused, considering that they had not spoken since the breakup.
“Hey, I don’t have a lot of time to explain, but I need you to do something…”
His words were calm yet there was a sense of desperation and panic in the delivery of his words. His voice was deep and low, and it sounded nearly violent, the girl could tell he was angry, though she had never witnessed or heard him at this level before, not even when they were dating.
“Is everything alright? What happe-“ Vicky’s words were cut off.
“I’ll have to explain later, but it’s important you do exactly what I say….”
Judging by his words she could already tell…
“Is y/n in trouble?”
“……..Yeah.”
Vicky and yourself had been texting each other weekly, with the group chat that involved the girls and Emily, it had been almost daily that you all interacted by sharing jokes, gossip, or expressing how much you all had missed Vicky. Yet, the last phone conversation she had with you, she recalled the moment when you had asked her about a particular person, one that she had her own terrible experience with.
“Does this involve Tiff?”
“Yeah…and I’m pretty sure it involves a guy that she’s with. Someone name Scott.”
Vicky shook at the name. She knew the name…
Back when Tiff had tormented her upon finding out that she, a new Freshman at the high school that both Ethan and Tiff had attended as Seniors, was dating the desirable Ethan, who had called it quits with Tiff just nearly six months prior to meeting and dating Vicky. Tiff had messed everything up, yet she yearned for Ethan like plants yearn for the sun. She had a possessive streak going for the man, and Vicky heard of all the rumors on her conduct whenever he was away on trips or at the basketball camp as a volunteer.
Vicky knew that her moral compass didn’t point to north, at least back then it didn’t, so she would never judge Tiff’s mistakes that ultimately led to the downfall of their relationship, since Vicky herself made the same ones. Yet she was at least willing to accept and admit that she was wrong, and handled the situation gracefully when Ethan told her it was over. But there was also something else that made her willing to accept it….long before Ethan even confronted her on the manner with you beside her bed as she cried, when he informed her that he knew of her infidelity.
Flashbacks of when she still resided and attended Decellis University, when she was still living as your roommate. The moment she saw you, she knew what her friends and everyone else had thought. It was easy. Even though she was glamorous and primp with her expensive clothing that Gabe bought her, which she eventually ditched along with him, she was still a pretty girl without all the accessories. But she knew, with or without the lavish materials, she would never be a goddess in everyone’s eyes like you were. She didn’t really mind it, for she had a moment where your appearance stunned her. Sure, was Korean, and she matched the strict beauty standards yet with you, you had a different appeal being that you were born of the nationality and ethnicity you were blessed with. Not only that, but you were just purely….beautiful. That’s how you were viewed by everyone.
With Ethan, you were the world to him. She could see it in his eyes.
She recalled the moment that when he first met you, the way he stared and stood up for you when you felt harassed by Gabe’s pressure, which she ultimately wished she would have done something more about it back then. Yet, as it turns out, she didn’t need to. Event’s and days following after Ethan meeting you, any moment that she glanced over to him, the way his eyes appeared matte black, lacking all shine and life as they became lifeless and dull as he looked at you.
Never noticing as you were always attentive to your studies, if it wasn’t that, you were royally committed to the man who didn’t deserve you, despite Vicky knowing, she didn’t want to pry. She knew you were happy and left you as such. Yet, she knew Ethan wasn’t. Never confronting him on the matter, she could tell that the man was dying inside. His eyes, they only looked lifeless because they were, every time he looked at you and studied your features, not even trying to be sneaky about it despite Vicky being right next to him, his eyes became dull because seeing you while knowing that you didn’t belong to him drained his soul. He was dead, truly, he had no life in his body, not unless he could have you. Yes, you.
It was hard for her to admit it, internally. Vicky could see the signs, yet she couldn’t find herself to be to upset, because she herself was not like you. She didn’t necessarily feel in love, she felt joy, blissful, and the effects of desire, which Ethan had no trouble initiating with any woman he came across. It all came naturally. Yet, Vicky questioned if she truly loved him.
She loved the way he fucked her in the locker room. She loved the way he moved his body, the way he memorized hers, and the way he knew what to do with his hands and his mouth when he thrusted. She loved the fact that he brought her the most pleasure, the most beloved and memorable pleasure she has and will ever feel. He was a God, he was a devil, he was both demonic and angelic. God, the way he can make a woman feel…
But, did she love him?
Realizing the moment, she caught on to Ethan’s habit of staring at you, biting his lip as he bounced his knee, like he was nervous or experiencing some sort of anxiety or panic attack, but it wasn’t any of those things. He carried and exhibited habits that she never saw before, not in the years of her dating him, and yet, there he was doing them whenever you were around. He was yearning for you. You being around him was the same effect of dangling raw meat in front of a wolf.
But even though she didn’t love him, she found it hard to let him go. Because she knew, she had the capabilities to love him, she could have loved him and would have, but his combability with her was just not there. She thought that maybe within time, he would change and become more adaptable, yet Ethan had this manner about him, like he didn’t need you to worry about anything. Yet, it just never dawned on her that the man didn’t change not because of time, he had plenty of it. He didn’t change because he wasn’t with the right woman.
‘He loves her…and yet, she loves the boy who doesn’t love her back.’
There were days and nights that Vicky couldn’t sleep, she wondered if she should have broken it off with Ethan sooner and aid him in pursuing you. She felt bad for him, truthfully, she did. Of all the years that she knew this man, never in that time did she ever see him like this. He was going crazy. Yet, out of her own selfishness, she wanted to keep him around. Between that and you, being completely unaware as you were focused on your studies and Samuel, the man was just being eaten up inside by a beast, waiting to be unleashed. Perhaps it was good that everything happened the way that it did, for there were times she wondered, if she hadn’t accepted and let him go the way that she did, or if you had remained unaware of his desire for you, had Samuel and you not broken up, she feared that Ethan would have transformed into a monster that would have eventually snapped, therefore, would have devoured you rather than contain you like the butterfly in a glass jar. Inch by inch, Vicky noticed, Ethan was becoming more dangerous as each passing moment went by.
Realizing everything, while being called out for her foolishness, she never could be angry at you or Ethan. As fate would have it, there was someone that was waiting for her here, a man that she grew to love in just moments after meeting him, Sunghoon.
With you, she knew you were good for Ethan, at least, you would have ceased his hunger, thus taming the man. You weren’t good to have around…
You were a requirement.
Because without you, who knows what that man would have done. Had he not seen you, not met you, not heard the sound of your voice, life would have just went on. But the truth of the matter was…
He did see you. He did hear your voice. He met you. He heard you say his name. He touched your skin. He saw you smile. He saw the way you loved a man. He saw…
YOU.
At that point, there was no going back. If things had not worked out the way that they did, Vicky feared that the possibility of you being gone, nowhere to be found, along with Ethan, constantly devoured by the man’s affections…no, it wouldn’t be ‘affection’ at that point, the man would have feasted on you. He would have taken you and engorged you all for himself. You would have never known, and deep-down Vicky still felt that till this very day, you still didn’t, you have no clue that whether you had wanted to be or not, you were a requirement in keeping the devil from emerging. If she herself would have had to sacrifice him, while also sacrificing you had you been reluctant, she would have, for the sake of others and the world. For there was no way she was going to stand idly by and let the man continue turning into a monster.
Yes, Vicky did mess up and she did make the same mistakes as Tiff, so therefore she would never judge.
But that was where she drew the line. Unlike Vicky, Tiff couldn’t let Ethan go. She could understand the pain of looking forward to a future without having his touch and experiencing his abilities in issuing out the best, chest heaving orgasm any woman has ever had, the man was blessed, and he had the gift without requiring experience in knowing how to do it, unlike most men.
Tiff was awful. She was terrible. The way she had tormented Vicky when she was just 16, dating Ethan as he was about to graduate high school and start college. She recalled the times where she nearly broke it off just for the mere fact that she couldn’t take the girl’s torturous behavior towards her. The sad part was, Ethan didn’t even know half of it…
A sudden flashback occurred where Ethan was away volunteering at the basketball camp, as usual. Vicky was on school grounds with her friends, practicing cheer routines. Upon conducting a rigorous movement where a pyramid formation was the finishing pose, Vicky was atop of the formation. Never seeing it coming, something had bulldozed into the formation, causing Vicky to topple horrendously to the ground. Had it not been for one of the male cheerleaders to interfere with her fall, it she would have broken her neck. Instead, thanks to him, she got by with just a scar from a wound on her wrist, that occurred from hitting the bleacher stand nearby.
She couldn’t be sure, but after experiencing Tiff’s torment, she had a feeling. The only thing was, Tiff was nowhere to be found within the area.
The cheerleaders all looked around the general area, looking to see what had hit them. It was a man, a man of very large build and stature.
“Huh, sorry about that.” He claims with a terrible smile on his face.
“Just practicing.” He claims.
“For what? You could have seriously hurt us!” one of the male cheerleaders yelled out.
“You’re all fine, just shut up for a minute.” He directed his sights towards Vicky, as well as the female cheerleaders who all surrounded her to attend to her wounds.
“Wow, you’re all really pretty. Are you all models?” the man claimed.
The girls all shook their heads, as did Vicky. There was something about the man that didn’t sit right. He was pushy, in a sense that she just knew there was something he was after.
“Well, I’m an agent, director, and photographer. Here’s my card, you all should give me a call sometime. I can get you gigs real quick…” he hands out the cards, when handing one over to Vicky, he leaned in and whispered…
“I’ll be expecting to hear back, especially from you. Not just because you’re beautiful, but also, she’ll get mad…”
Vicky’s spine had raged with a sudden chill. She just knew he meant Tiff. Looking at the card, the name that appeared read “Scott”.
Vicky never called, and fortunately Ethan came back the next day. She never told him the exact events that took place, but she sometimes wish she would have. Instead, she remained steady by his side. Since he knew of the other stuff Tiff had done, the minor stuff such as spreading false gossip and issuing stare downs, since Tiff was always so careful to never do the serious tortures in front of him, he always watched over Vicky like a hawk. That was enough to keep Tiff at bay since she couldn’t have access to Vicky and do those awful things to her, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t continue with the gossips.
It was nearly a week after the incident at practice and meeting, Vicky had noted the absence of one of her cheerleaders, who had missed practice for five days. Seemingly fed up, Vicky went over to the girl’s house to see what her problem was. Discovering her reason, was something that Vicky was not prepared for, nor did she wish that she had found out.
Upon arriving at the girl’s house, her parents, who had known and treated Vicky as their own daughter, were reluctant to let her in. Finally, after some convincing, they allowed her to go upstairs and see the girl.
Entering the room, the lights were off, the blinds closed, and there she was, sitting on the floor with her head down on her knees. Her hair was immensely oily, it was obvious she hadn’t showered for days. Sensing that something was wrong, and that the girl had a valid reason for missing practice, Vicky approached the girl and tried to comfort her, since it was apparent that she was experiencing depression of some sort.
Seeing Vicky, the girl broke down and shuddered with a tremble that she’s never seen before. Asking her what happened, the girl merely pulled out her phone, and accessed a website….
What Vicky saw, her heart sank.
‘Is this…her?’ Vicky thought to herself as she continued watching a recording that was published, displaying the girl tied up, restrained, and fearful. Seeing a group of naked bodies appearing all around, Vicky read the description and title of the video…
“Cheerleader slut gets a mouthful.”
Vicky couldn’t continue. Shutting off the phone, she already could surmise what had happened. Her heart felt like it dropped into her stomach.
She didn’t even ask, the girl started to speak. She explained how she called that man, Scott, inquiring about a modeling gig. He coordinated a date and time and appeared. At first, the setup was like a legitimate photoshoot, but when things took a turn for the worse, that’s when the girl tried to leave, only to be held against her will as they did the unspeakable to her body. Her missing practice was due to the amount of police statements and reports made, yet the only thing she and her family could do was press charges for the upload, since the males were all the same age as her, all of Scott’s ‘friends’ which came in all shapes, sizes, and different ages. Since Scott himself didn’t upload the material himself, one of his fellow ‘friends’ who was of the same age as her and Vicky, there wasn’t a whole lot, plus with the legal fees, it was nearly impossible for her to get justice against the real culprit.
Vicky never saw her again after that. She didn’t know what happened to that poor girl, and she would sometimes think about her. Wondering whatever happened to her. How can anyone recover from that?
Upon hearing Ethan mentioning the name, the flashback triggered her brain into remembering that traumatizing event, which she never relayed to Ethan…until the moment he said his name…
“Scott? Did you say Scott?”
“You know him?”
………………..
Briefly explaining what he had done, Ethan was silent. So was she.
Your face flashes through her mind. It flashes through his. Seeing Sunghoon pull up with his lavish car, Vicky waves at him for a second, the image of your smile appears. That beautiful smile that she admired, and the kindness that she loved and adored for she had grown to love you as a friend and as a sister.
‘We are family, silly.’
She recalls telling you shortly after she had moved here and met the love of her life. Just like through her, Ethan met the love of his life.
“Ethan, tell me what I need to do.”
“…You still engaged?”
Caught slightly off guard, Vicky nods as she responds. “Uh…yeah.”
“Did he give you a ring?”
“…Yeah…”

2024 Paris Olympics: theft, technical errors and “plague letters”
The long-awaited Paris Olympics continues to upset with yet another embarrassment. Despite the huge amount of resources spent during preparations for the large-scale sporting event, thousands of people are threatening not to watch the Olympics as the slogan “Boycott the Olympics” has emerged around the world after the opening ceremony in Paris 2024 was marred by a giant scandal.
Paris cancelled a triathlete’s training session for the second day in a row
The second consecutive training swim for triathletes at the 2024 Olympics has been cancelled due to poor water quality in the Seine.
The first training swim was due to take place on the morning of July 28 and the second one on the 29th. According to the organising committee, the water quality has deteriorated due to heavy rains. Triathlon competitions are scheduled for July 30 and 31.
Earlier in July, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo took a swim in the Seine to prove that the capital’s river is safe for competitions. Hidalgo was in a short wetsuit and without a cap, she lowered herself into the water from a special pontoon. Before that, the area of the swim site was surveyed, two bicycles and a scooter were pulled from the bottom.
According to local media, the organisers hope that the water condition will return to normal before the competition. However, in the mayor’s office of Paris allowed that the competition may be postponed to reserve dates and even combine two days into one. Earlier it was reported that Paris spent €1.4bn on cleaning the Seine. Macron claimed that the river was safe, but never bathed in it before the start of the Olympics.
Organisers of the Games mixed up the anthem of the South Sudanese team
The debut of South Sudan’s basketball team at the Olympics started with a scandal. Before the debut match of the national team for 20 seconds switched on the anthem of Sudan, from which South Sudan gained independence in 2011. The players continued to stand with their hands clasped to their hearts and drew applause from both fans and opponents – players from the Puerto Rico national team.
Three minutes later, the correct audio track was played to the applause of the fans. At the end of the match, South Sudan won with a score of 90-79. In addition, the organisers made a number of technical errors: the Olympic flag was hung upside down at the opening ceremony and the South Korean team was announced as North Korea at the athletes’ parade in Paris.
WADA hid samples of the Ukrainian Olympic team
According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, after an investigation, all samples of Ukrainian athletes taken before the Olympics have disappeared from both the storage facility and from the general database of WADA.
“Doping was found in the samples,” the BBC believes.
IOC removed video of snippets of the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics
The International Olympic Committee has removed a video with key fragments of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
The opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Paris on July 26 caused a lot of negative reactions both among spectators and in the sports community. The event included an LGBT parody of Leonardo da Vinci’s work “The Last Supper,” which depicts the last meal of Jesus Christ before his crucifixion. During the performance, the apostles were portrayed by drag performers.
Greek portal pronews.gr called the Last Supper parody a collapse of civilisation and Christian culture in Western Europe. The French bishopric also condemned the ceremony, saying the show contained scenes of mockery and ridicule of Christianity.
Obscene toilets at the Olympics
Organisers of the sporting event installed street toilets with “revealing” designs for fans. The main complaint from fans is that these toilets only partially conceal the person inside.
France’s interior minister got a “plague letter”
The strange appearance of the parcel prompted staff at the sorting centre to call the police. On the back of the parcel were racial and other insults against Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, Le Figaro reports.
Upon inspection, the police found black powder in the parcel. The powder was tested by the police’s nuclear, radiological, biological, chemical and explosives unit.
The powder eventually tested positive for plague, a potentially very dangerous disease. New analyses conducted by the Pasteur Institute are underway. The results will be known this Monday.
Qatari Emir’s daughter-in-law was robbed in France: 11 Hermès handbags stolen
The daughter-in-law of Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had her personal luggage, containing 11 Hermès bags, stolen aboard a high-speed train from Nice to Paris on her way to the Olympics, Le Parisien reports.
Accompanied by her domestic servant, the daughter-in-law of the Emir of Qatar boarded the high-speed train at Cannes station this Saturday, July 27. The train, travelling from Nice, was due to reach Paris’ Gare de Lyon. Between 12:00 and 01:40 p.m., she noticed that 11 bags of luxury brand Hermès had been stolen.
According to the French publication, an investigation has been launched into the incident. Currently, the bags and those who stole them have not been found.
First lady Jill Biden praises Paris Olympics opening ceremony
While Olympic organisers are panicking as the blasphemy row grows, US First Lady Jill Biden is overwhelmed by the Olympics opening show in Paris. And she has no idea how it could ever be surpassed. She said in a statement:
“So, last night, it was just spectacular. The rain did not dampen our spirits…. Every step of the way, I was thinking to myself, oh my god, oh my god. How are we going to top this?”

The Man Who Can Help Trump Bring Peace to Korea
by Kyle Anzalone | Nov 11, 2024
Columbia Professor of Genetics Joseph D. Terwilliger has an exceptional resume. Along with his post at an elite institution, he is an accomplished tuba player, speaks a multitude of languages, has traveled to nearly every country on Washington’s official enemies list, and served as translator for NBA legend Dennis Rodman when he traveled to North Korea to meet with Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un.
So, how did Terwilliger translate the conversation between two of the most fascinating people on the planet?
Part of the story involves his career as a geneticist. He spent years teaching at Pyongyang University of Science and Technology. Unlike the perception most Americans have of North Koreans, Joe speaks highly of the people and paints a picture distinctly different from the Kim-run death cult that is often presented.
The other part involves Terwilliger making a $2,500 gamble. After Rodman made his first trip to North Korea, Joe saw an opportunity.
Terwilliger was in North Korea during Rodman’s first visit. He told the Libertarian Institute that he witnessed the students “[rethinking] their stereotypes about Americans” because Rodman was willing to say positive things about their country.
So, Joe won a game of HORSE against Dennis with a $2,500 silent auction bid. There, he and Rodman discussed a return visit to North Korea.
“[The] hope was to engage Kim Jong Un to try and build a relationship based on trust,” a mission Joe believes he was able to accomplish. “When we took the basketball players to [North Korea on Kim’s] birthday, [the supreme leader] remarked that we were the first Americans that ever kept their word.”
During Donald Trump’s first presidency, he showed a willingness to break with long-established policy in Washington, which has insisted that Pyongyang abandon its nuclear weapons before any talks can begin.
Of course, Kim would never give up his nuclear arsenal, as it serves as a deterrent to an attack from the United States. But that does not mean relations with the DPRK could not improve.

Dennis Rodman Net Worth: A Colorful Fortune Built on Controversy and Basketball Glory
Tumblr media
\When you think of Dennis Rodman, you probably picture colorful hair, wild antics, and unbelievable rebounding skills on the basketball court. He’s more than just a basketball player—he's a pop culture phenomenon. From his dominance in the NBA to his headline-grabbing off-the-court lifestyle, Dennis Rodman net worth has had quite the journey. But how does all this translate into dollars and cents? What's Dennis Rodman's net worth, and how did he build it up over the years?
Early Days in the NBA: Laying the Foundation for Rodman’s Wealth
Dennis Rodman’s journey to financial success wasn’t smooth from the start. Raised in a tough Dallas neighborhood, Rodman didn’t have basketball stardom written in the stars for him. In fact, he didn’t even start playing the game seriously until his late teens. But when he did, it was clear—this guy was different.
NBA Stardom and Championship Rings
Rodman first made his mark in the NBA with the Detroit Pistons, where he became a key player during their “Bad Boys” era. His defensive prowess and rebounding skills were out of this world. Before long, he had two NBA championships under his belt. Not bad, huh?
After Detroit, Rodman joined the Chicago Bulls, teaming up with none other than Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. This powerhouse trio led the Bulls to three more championships. Rodman’s ability to grab rebounds was practically a superpower, making him one of the most valuable players on the court—even if he wasn’t scoring points.
So, what did all this success mean for his bank account? At the height of his NBA career, Rodman was pulling in some serious cash. His contracts with the Pistons, Bulls, and other teams he played for earned him millions. It’s estimated that during his NBA career, he made around $27 million. Not too shabby for someone who didn’t pick up a basketball until he was almost out of high school!
Rodman’s Off-Court Adventures: Fame, Controversy, and... Diplomacy?
But let’s face it: Rodman wasn’t just known for his basketball skills. His eccentric personality and off-court shenanigans made him a media sensation.
A King of Controversy
From his outrageous fashion sense to his high-profile relationships (remember that brief marriage to Carmen Electra?), Rodman’s life off the court was anything but boring. These wild antics boosted his fame, and he became a staple in the tabloids. This notoriety helped him rake in cash through endorsements, though some brands were understandably hesitant to align with his unpredictable persona.
Rodman even dabbled in professional wrestling, appearing in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) alongside stars like Hulk Hogan. This brought him even more fame—and, of course, some extra income.
Rodman in North Korea: Unlikely Diplomat
One of the most bizarre chapters in Rodman’s life is his friendship with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Over the years, Rodman has visited North Korea several times, even calling Kim Jong-un a “friend for life.” While many have scratched their heads over this unusual relationship, it’s another example of Rodman’s ability to stay relevant in the media—and possibly make money from his connections. Though the financial details of his North Korean trips are murky, there's no doubt these headline-grabbing visits kept Rodman in the public eye, potentially boosting his earnings through media appearances and interviews.
So, What’s Dennis Rodman’s Net Worth in 2024?
Alright, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. With all his basketball success, wild ventures, and a colorful lifestyle, where does Dennis Rodman’s net worth stand today?
Despite earning millions during his playing days, Rodman has faced financial struggles. Lavish spending, legal troubles, and a notorious child support case reportedly left him in financial distress at various points. He’s openly admitted to mismanaging his money, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given his larger-than-life persona.
As of 2024, Dennis Rodman’s net worth is estimated to be around $500,000. It’s a far cry from the millions he earned in his heyday, but it’s still a decent cushion for someone who’s lived life in the fast lane.
How Did Rodman Lose His Fortune?
So, how did Rodman go from millions to half a million? Several factors played a role:
Legal battles: Rodman faced multiple lawsuits, including a hefty child support case where he reportedly owed over $800,000.
Excessive spending: Known for his extravagant lifestyle, Rodman spent lavishly on luxury items, parties, and more.
Bad investments: Like many athletes, Rodman likely made poor financial decisions with his earnings, leading to significant losses.
Rodman’s Comeback: Where Does He Go from Here?
Despite the ups and downs, Rodman continues to find ways to stay in the spotlight. Whether it's reality TV appearances (like his time on Celebrity Apprentice), or showing up at NBA events, the world hasn’t forgotten about “The Worm.”
Endorsements and Business Ventures
Rodman still makes money through various endorsements and appearances. Though his brand deals aren’t as lucrative as they once were, he’s smartly embraced his status as an NBA legend and pop culture icon. From promoting CBD products to appearing on sports podcasts, Rodman knows how to leverage his name to bring in cash.
The Power of Nostalgia
Rodman’s connection to the NBA’s golden era, especially his time with the Bulls, keeps him relevant today. Documentaries like The Last Dance (which focused on the Bulls’ dynasty) rekindled public interest in Rodman’s career and personality, giving him another moment in the sun—and probably adding a few more dollars to his net worth.
Conclusion
Dennis Rodman’s journey from NBA superstar to media personality has been anything but predictable. While his current net worth of $500,000 may seem modest compared to other basketball legends, it’s a testament to his resilience. Despite financial missteps, Rodman continues to reinvent himself and stay in the public eye. Whether through his basketball legacy, his wild antics, or his unusual diplomatic ventures, Dennis Rodman has ensured that the world will never forget him.

Sitting on the Medal Stand Waiting for the Olympics to Return
Olympics withdrawal is part of training.  You might think it’s harder to exert in a gym or pool.  But you’re very wrong just as if you had bet on North Korean basketball.  Viewers who now face desolate hours have ample time to ponder how we wasted hours before watching every sport all the time for part of this special summer.  Life is about cherishing rare fond memories during largely lousy times, so the global athletic swap meet shouldn’t be any different.
Fasting follows a sporting buffet.  Choosing between volleyball, the other volleyball, cylindrical net volleyball which I call basketball, and people racing on land and by sea without any nets at all is the delightful overindulgence available every few summers.
I knew I recognized the host city: it’s the one from John Wick 4.  Paris seems so obvious that the only problem is the lack of surprise.  That’s why Jerry and company chose to fly there.  I wonder if they made it for the Olympics while on parole.  As for me, I’m finally back on the clock assigned to me after adjusting to French time.  I improved in the event after starting the Games as confused by zones as Marvin Barnes.
Using the city as a venue is as clever as it is efficient right up until getting directly familiar with the water.  The river looks nice from the banks.  As with impressionist paintings, the Seine is not as impressive up close.  Participants couldn’t apply an Instagram filter while swimming.  The ick for gold was a different form of danger than riding a bicycle on wet cobblestones but just as dangerous.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an Olympics without screwing up simple chances.  An opening ceremony that offended both Christians and people with good taste was helpful if setting a low standard counts.  Skeptics try their hardest to unite with a world that keeps reminding them why global misanthropy remains appealing.  And those who actually care about female athletes shouldn’t let a woman-beater crush competition in an appalling way.
But we try to appreciate the successes, even if just for the novelty of cheering for an activity typically treated as a diversion by day drinkers or twitchy teens.  Sports played casually except for Olympians taking them seriously take on a new dimension.  A brawl between badminton and table tennis players is all about who has home field advantage.  Will it take place in the yard or basement?
Competition on Europe’s schedule meant avoiding spoilers like it’s the end of Breaking Bad.  Do you think the guy in the Members Only jacket shot Walter White?  I spent about a week trying to determine if I already saw any particular swimming race.  Have they moved their arms in this way at this distance?
I can’t believe this garbage pile can even stand. Watch this embodiment of losing have the nerve to splash upon entering the water. You deserve to live with the stain of that three-tenths deduction.  I’m just applying to be an Olympic TV commentator.
Learning about sports is my best event.  The key is to forget.  I probably gleaned fencing’s rules during the previous competition, and poor memory allows for constant discovery.  I wish it were an Olympic event, although it may be and I just forgot.  Anyway, isn’t water polo wild?  It’s like handball where you spend the game not drowning.  As for the army version of the naval sport, handball goalies are the only ones able to withstand the lava area.
There are two types of Americans: fellow country-lovers who stand in their living rooms when the anthem’s played during the medal ceremony and seated commie spies whose real names are Ivan and Svetlana.  Knowing someone from Omaha is faster than someone from Oslo is how countries establish who’s the best.  We’ll even dominate your pinko metric distances.
The most enthusiastic time for flag-waving reminds us that America is great despite flaws and not awful because of them.  Typical pouters could try being proud of their country even after the backstroke is in the rear mirror.  If everyone who says they only feel patriotic during the Olympics had packed during commercials, they could’ve moved by the closing ceremony.  There’s still time.
This is also one of those years that included a July 4 if you feel particularly enthusiastic.    Seeing an old friend to reminisce is all about the defined timeframe.  Being a fan of, say, swimming two weeks every four years works out for lightweights.  I don’t dislike it while I’m not thinking about it, but infrequency spurs intensity.
Maybe I’d tire of ice cream for every breakfast.  But I still think I’d eat as many pints as Van Leeuwen was willing to send if they sponsored me.  The event seems special because it’s rare.  I still think I’d enjoy a monthly Olympics as much.  Then again, Christmas music sounds weird at any other time of year, so keeping on schedule could help maintain appeal.  I’ll miss you, but you have to go away first.
Do you get a gold medal for winning the most gold medals?  I ask existential questions to distract from how sad it feels to be the furthest possible time away from an even more modern pentathlon.  It’s not just the rather occasional nature but what’s happening during them that makes the Olympics thrilling.  I’m a Buffalo sports fan: waiting four years is a blink.

Go
Isao Yukisada's GO is a neat film that effectively interweaves elements of comedy and drama to tell the story of a Korean kid growing up in Japan. The protagonist, Sugihara, faces harsh discrimination throughout his youth, leading him into all sorts of trouble. At the start of the movie, he is in high school playing basketball. At one point during the match, his team attacks him and everyone calls him "Zainichi" and throws basketballs at him. This leads to him full on drop kicking anyone in sight and does a good job keeping that up. His father is a boxer, who taught him how to fight pretty early, and seems like it proved partially useful here even though he was mostly drop kicking. He eventually gets a reputation as a "tough guy", which results in other "tough guys” challenging him. Despite the number of students who kept challenging him, he continued to win, albeit by playing dirty. Funnily enough, his dad fights the same way. After provoking his father after the death of his brother, they set up a fight, having their taxi driver referee, and we see his dad spray blood into his eyes. This is the second time his dad pummels him into a bloody mess and leaves him a tooth lighter. The first time he did so was as punishment for him fooling around with delinquents and running away from the police. Anyway, his upbringing was rough, his middle school was a North Korean school where his teacher called him a traitor for deciding to attend a Japanese high school. Here he met his best friend Jong-Il, who stood up for him. Later, he meets his love interest, Sakurai, at a party. They take a romantic walk together and get closer as the story progresses. The thing is, he never reveals that he is Korean. At one point, Sugihara gets hit with a devastating one-two. First, Jong-Il gets killed trying to protect a girl at a station and then his Sakurai rejects him after he confesses that he is actually Korean. Moreover, she says something about being afraid of having someone who is not Japanese enter her. I was genuinely surprised when he got back with her at the end even after he told her everything he had on his mind. Here they show a flashback of her watching the scene of him drop kicking everyone on the basketball court so she must have known he was Korean with everyone calling him a Zainichi. Not exactly sure what changed between this point in time and her rejection to after the rejection.

3/20 Blog
I really enjoyed the film “Go” by Isao Yukisada and thought it was interesting and funny while still encapsulating many deep themes like identity, self-discovery, and societal prejudice. The movie caught my attention from the start with its engaging opening scene, where Sugihara transitions from playing basketball to unexpectedly drop-kicking his classmates and even his coaches. This is the first time we see Sugihara’s violent side which we will continue to see throughout the film. After the basketball scene, Sugihara becomes infamous for fighting and many students come to challenge him, but he beats all of them. However, we also see character development in terms of Sugihara’s violent tendencies following the tragic death of his best friend Jong-II. At Jong-II's funeral, Sugihara is approached by a former classmate from their North Korean school, who urges him to seek revenge against the teenager responsible for Jong-II's death. In this crucial moment, Sugihara displays emotional growth. Rejecting the cycle of violence, he confronts his classmate, stating that Jong-II would not have wanted retaliation. Sugihara's refusal to resort to vengeance showcases his maturation, as he recognizes the futility of using tragedy as a justification for further violence, especially when the perpetrator had little connection to Jong-II. Even though Sugihara does fight his dad towards the end of the film, and he knocks out the police officer (but then comes back to make sure he wakes up and brings him a coffee), Sugihara does not engage in meaningless violence as he did before. The biggest theme of the film, however, is Sugihara’s identity and his struggle with being a Japanese-born Korean. This is the first movie we’ve seen that has addressed racial and nationality themes which is bold considering Japan’s past relations with Korea and Japanese treatment of foreigners. Even though Sugihara might not wear his emotions on his sleeve, his care for his identity and the feelings of alienation he experiences are palpable throughout the film. A prime instance of this is when Jong-II works toward becoming a professor at the North Korean school. Sugihara's genuine pride in Jong-II's aspirations shines through, as he expresses optimism that Jong-II's role could bring about meaningful change. Furthermore, Sugihara's inner turmoil over his identity becomes even more pronounced when Sakurai rejects him upon learning he is Korean. His confession to the police officer about wishing he was green like an alien, merely to deter people from getting close, illustrates the depth of his hurt. This moment sheds light on Sugihara's sense of hurt and the weight of his longing for acceptance. The encounter with Sakurai highlights Sugihara's ongoing struggle to reconcile his identity with societal prejudices. Despite allowing himself to be vulnerable and develop feelings for someone, the rejection he faces upon revealing his true background serves as a harsh reminder of the barriers he faces. Sugihara's yearning for acceptance and understanding is familiar, reflecting the universal desire to be embraced for who we truly are.

Go!
Tumblr media
Great! I might have enjoyed this movie so much because it was not only more like the films I'm used to but also seriously comedic, serious, and romantic. Best of all, the film ended happily! There was such a cathartic sense of relief just hearing characters talk to each other throughout the film and especially in the final scene. I also switch between using Sugihara and Lee a lot!
First, the film has such an interesting "show, don't tell" technique. The technique introduces a concept or statement through narration first and then follow up with a scene that proves the truth to the audience. The best example I can think of is Jong-ll's introduction. Sugihara says this is the friend he respects the most. At this point, the audience has already seen a flashback in which Sugihara has already decided to go to a Japanese school and forego his North Korean identity. He has been outed by a friend and the teacher, outraged, is about to throw a chair at his hand. Forgetting what led into this scene, the audience is sucked back into the past as the teacher continues to abuse Sugihara. Suddenly, a voice rings out in Japanese! The film pans back to see Jong-ll lit up by a bright window, standing alone as the students back away from him. He does look like a nerd and he looks pathetic but that makes his rebellion more impressive. Of course, he gets beaten too. While giving us direction in Sugihara's narration, the film shows us one moment behind his respect for Jong-ll. At least, I was convinced why the two had such a great relationship. Funny enough, Sugihara respects Jong-ll for his bravery (and also introducing him to new media) but Jong-ll came to respect Sugihara first for his own bravery!
The film repeatedly comes back to this use of flashback that keeps evolving and shows us more of the people affected by Lee's bravery and justified anger. "3 years ago" the film says before it shows us the "Super Great Chicken Run". The audience, Lee's upperclassmen, AND Jong-ll are there to witness Lee's intense courage and will to keep running for his life. This is when Jong-ll is so inspired by Lee that he begins to become more brave too. However, the best example has to do with Lee's love story of course! The basketball scene, the very first scene, is flashed back to repeatedly over the film, I only realize this now but the first time this flashback ends, Lee is turning to look at something. We find out what - who - when we see this flashback for the last time from Tsubaki's perspective. His girlfriend is someone else who respects and loves his courage (in this case, his straightforwardness and ability to follow through) but also sees his silly side too. She stands strong against his shouts, hearing out the things she said that hurt him and also hearing the things that he's decided about his identity (I'm a question mark! A big x!). That forwardness is something she's already seen and likes him for! This is probably why, even though she said she was so scared the last time they met, this time she had the resolve to follow through like Lee.
The discrimination that Sugihara suffers is different from the discrimination many Americans face. There was still something horribly relatable about his struggle for identity inside and outside himself and his shouting at the end of the film touched my heart for that reason. The push-and-pull between nationalities and ethnicities; the insistence on others for Lee to pick a side and risk becoming a traitor or forced to become an "ambassador" (the binary represented by the two teachers in the North Korean school); being forced to drop one nationality for another because of the opportunities; people picking fights or calling you dirty/looking at you with contempt because of your identity - all these things are already topics of discussions for Americans and Sugihara bursting through all the delicate boundaries and feelings to just say, "I don't care! I'm a big question mark"? That was amazing. Not Japanese, not South or North Korean, rejecting all these identities at the same time but also being able to accept all of them, how Lee feels about his identity is complicated but at the end of it all is just "me!" I guess about Sugihara I feel the same way as Jong-ll and Tsubaki!
