CHANT FOR ÞÓRR.

Viking raiders and East Slavs have maintained a good contact throughout history as the Rurik Dynasty of Norse origin ruled the ancient land of Rus’ from its capital; Kiev, where Scandinavian culture began to mix with the local Slavic. Hence the Slavic god Perun and Norse god Þórr were widely honoured throughout the lands of Norsemen and ancient Slavs.

This chant is solely my own. I translated many words and phrases to Old Norse from various sources in order to produce my own chant that I will be using to tribute him and develop the exchange with my heritage.

"Þróttigr hermaðr, er hēdhra þu. Bliðr viezla fyrir þú ek sjá, þinn megin, makt ok ør-grandr.

Er blóta þú með minn megin ok girnd til fit illrrinn. Þrúðugr ok stiltr – þú haldnaturerinnr með þinn Mjǫllnir.

Hlórriði! Dynja, elding, veðr ok baðmr ór fjörlausn. Þórr! Ek trust þinn makt ok abilitr.

Þú eru makt, inn meginrinn ok protectorinn ór mankinð. Þróttigr hermaðr, er hēdhra þu.

Dynja, elding, veðr ok baðmr ór fjörlausn. Hlórriði, þróttigr hermaðr. Þórr, er hēdhra þu."

Skoll "One Who Mocks" and Hati "One Who Hates" are two wolves in the sky, chasing Sol and Mani (sun and the moon) in an endless cycle. As dawn breaks, Skoll begins his pursuit with a terrifying howl. As dusk begins, Hati chases the moon with blinding speed across the celestial body. And so, the cycle is complete and resets. Until the end of days, Ragnarök, this dance continues, until finally the wolves would catch their prey and bring darkness to the world.

Skoll, with eyes as bright as fire, and fur as white as snow Heralded the coming of dawn, and the start of a new day's flow Hati, with eyes as dark as night, and fur as black as coal Heralded the Coming of dusk, and the end of the day's toll

Skoll, the embodiment of hope, and Hati, the embodiment of fate Together they chase the celestial orbs, that define the cyclical state Of the world, in a never-ending cycle, that has been set in motion By the gods, in a cosmic dance, that has been their devotion

They are the embodiment of fate, the bringers of the end, The ones who will devour the very stars, when the world shall bend. And though we may fear their approach, and tremble at their might, We cannot help but be in awe of Skoll and Hati's endless flight.

Book I am reading early this morning is, The Poetic Edda by Snorri Sturluson, translated by Carolyne Larrington. I've read other translations as well; Jackson Crawford and also Lee Hollander, which aren't bad in any way, but so far I'm really enjoying Larrington's version. I recommend 💯 this read to all my fellow heathens because this version is very easy to follow, has both Old Norse and English translations.
