After a long day streaming yesterday, I finished my second tarot card. 02 - Giðya (The High Priestess) This piece features the Nornir; Skuld, Urðr and Verðandi Their names transelate roughly to Present, Past and Future, and in the lore they were responsible for tending the world tree from their well at its roots, where they also weaved the fate of men.

Atropa belladonna is associates with the Fates. Enigmatic figures known as the Norns, the Morai and many other names. It may seem like a hard thing to find reasons to hope these days, given the pandemic, the riots, the rampaging hate and fear against people of color we’re seeing and perhaps experiencing every day. But we all have choices, and we all can choose to direct our beliefs and actions from love and healing and hope for better days ahead. Today’s draw tells us that there is reason for hope, but we have to pass through the fire to get to the better place we’re going to. It takes a forest fire to open a pine cone so that its seeds can be released into the newly cleared ground. That’s what’s happening right now: fire is sweeping across the land, breaking down structures and limiting beliefs and releasing the seeds of the future. Set your course carefully, with love for all beings and hope for a just, equitable, peaceful future for everyone, and act accordingly as much as you can. Stay grounded and remember that we’re all human beings and we all have hopes, dreams, and plans for ourselves and our loved ones, and we’re all at the mercy of Fate. Hi guys!

I’m back! So here’s an update: I didn’t learn much about Tumblr since yesterday, however, I think I have an idea of what I want to do with this channel.

The short version: I’ll be dedicating this space to topics related to tarot cards, runes, Norse mythology, the old gods, traditions and rituals, fate, the reality of today, and how to make your world a bit more peaceful, joyful, and … simply hygge place!

The little longer version: It is safe to say that I’m creating this channel because I am passionate about writing, creating content, expressing myself, and documenting the happenings. (I have to admit I have hoarding tendencies too, maybe because I am very sentimental). Furthermore, I have a strong interest in journalism, media, and fun, interactive social media. It may be due to the fact that I studied Media and Communications at university… or maybe I studied that course because I’ve always had a passion for the media, I can’t tell you.

Additionally, my professional life is (and has been) connected to different media fields - newspaper & TV journalism, radio & online agency journalism, social media management, and content creation. So I guess it was my destiny to dedicate my time, energy, and emotions to media. 

Speaking of destiny, let me explain why I chose to blog about those specific topics. My interest in the mysterious world of fortunetelling, magic, rituals, and all things occult began when I was around 16. I think my ancestors, my family, my grandmoms, and grandaunts, and my mom also played a role in why I started to research it.

My great-grandmother was a fortune teller, who told the future by looking at scattered beans. My grandaunt is amazing at reading the future also. I will always remember how each Saturday me and grandma would go visit my grandaunt, she would brew some coffee and we'd drink it and chatter away. I remember how she always became very quiet and serious as soon as the cups were empty. And then… then she would speak and speak about who I will meet and what will happen. She would point at the dark coffee beans at the bottom of the cup and ask me: “Do you see this big bird, its wing arches right here and then continue down there?”. Of course, at that time it all sounded like a magical fairy tale and I tried to soak up as much as I could before she would cut sharply: “That’s it for now”.

I started reading oracle cards when a friend of my mom’s friends gave me a deck as a present when I was 18. When I was 21 I bought my very first tarot deck,(that’s a story for another time) and I’ve been reading tarot cards ever since. For the past year or so (maybe even a couple of years) I’ve been wanting to create a blog like this one, where I could freely talk about tarot and other topics that interest me. Last, but not least, I also believe that I could find like-minded people here, who enjoy reflecting on those thoughts. 

So there you have it, why and how I decided to create this space. Everyone’s welcome to follow me, comment, ask questions. Please keep in mind that I am new to the platform, so excuse any technical mistakes. I’ll be grateful if you let me know in case you come across any problems connected to interacting with my page. And get in touch in general, I love a good chat.

Spinning the Threads of Time - The Norn

The Norns were female beings in Norse mythology who ruled the destiny of gods and men. They roughly corresponded to other controllers of humans’ destiny, such as the Fates, elsewhere in European mythology. (More on this later!)

In Snorri Sturluson’s interpretation of the Völuspá, Urðr, Verðandi and Skuld, the three most important of the Norns, come out from a hall standing at the Well of Urðr. They draw water from the well and take sand that lies around it, which they pour over Yggdrasill so that its branches will not rot. These three Norns are described as powerful maiden giantesses (Jotuns) whose arrival from Jötunheimr ended the golden age of the gods.

Between themselves, the Norns weave ‘fate’ or ‘ørlǫg’ (from ór ‘beyond’ and lǫg ‘law’; literally ‘beyond law’). According to Voluspa 20, the three Norns ‘set up the laws’, and ‘decided on the lives of the children of time’. ørlǫglausa or ‘ørlǫg-less’ occurs in Voluspa 17 in reference to driftwood which is given breath, warmth and spirit by three gods, to create the first humans, Ask (“Ash”) and Embla (possibly “Elm”).

That Awkward Moment...

When you realize that the Norns slathered you in white clay from The Well of Wyrd that one time in order to protect you from the massive astral worm that was trying to feast on you. Even more awkward is the fact that I didn't recognize the creature myself. A friend was doing a purification for me, named it for what it was and facilitated its removal. As I grow in my craft I realize that I'll have to be more and more vigilant, and rigorous in my purification practices. A sprig of sage, three thuds on a chime, and a clumsy chant will only go so far!!

I have to say that my favorite is Hold me Down/Watch me Drown series, but especially Hold me Down! ♡♡♡ Was one of the first fics that I read so it hold a special place in my heart! ^^

4. Which one spoils the other more and do they ever get competitive to show the other more love

Ylva doesn’t really have any other way of spoling Ivar than by showing him affection; she has no money to buy things with and no knowledge about any sort of craftmanship. She started to learn some basic sewing and similar things when she was a child but that knowledge is long gone. So she spoils him with touches, praising him etc.

Ivar gave Ylva all of the clothes that she owns. At first he wasn’t doing it to spoil her, it was just a necessary thing for her to have. But after they discussed  the dress and he realized what it meant to her, he has become very careful to make sure that all of her clothes are repaired / kept in good condition and replaced whenever necessary. He also makes sure that they always have one of the best rooms to sleep in and that there are plenty of furs in the bed.

And then there’s the torture…in these moments, they both feel spoiled. Ylva because she can’t believe that there’s actually someone there with her, helping her to strike back, someone who cares for her and goes out of their way to help her cope with everything and make her life better. Ivar feels spoiled because he’s being invited to such private moments; he gets to be with someone who doesn’t shun him for being the way he is, but rather rewards it. Usually, there’s no competition between them about spoiling each other but in these moments it might be a little bit like that; they both want to please the other so badly because they are completely over the moon that they are doing this together and want to show their appreciation.

13. How does each act when getting drunk

They rarely get drunk, especially Ylva because she feels vulnerable when drinking too much. On the few occasions that she does, she becomes overly confident and tries to grab Ivar’s axe so that she can show everyone what a good student she is. Someone, often Ivar, has to stop her from accidentally swinging it at some innocent bystander. She’s sensitive to alcohol so it’s a fairly quick process.

Ivar on the other hand has several stages of drunkenness, the first one being that he becomes a bit louder, more easily distracted and a bit gigglish. If he has Ylva in his lap and he’s in the middle of a conversation with Floki, he might stop talking all of a sudden to instead poke at Ylva’s breasts and giggle “tiddies”. In the second stage he becomes sleepy and if he goes to lie down / sits too comfortably he will fall asleep right in the middle of a sentence. In the last stage, he becomes overconfident and happily hands Ylva the axe so that she can show everyone what a good teacher he is, cheering her on as she swings it dangerously close to some innocent bystander. It has never ended with someone being hurt though, because Ubbe / Hildur / Arne always intervenes. Sometimes Floki intervenes too, but he’s a bit slower to react because he’s so busy laughing at the young couple.

29. Does one have a spot on them where they would melt when the other one kisses them there?

Ylva loves it when Ivar kisses her collarbones, especially around the small bump she has on one of them after it was broken. It reminds her of the time he spent taking care of all her scars, plus she can tousle his hair while he does it, unlike when he takes care of the scars on her back.

Ivar’s favourite place to be kissed is on the forehead, because it is something that his mother used to do and it reassures him that Ylva actually loves him.

42. How would one react if the other was to die

No matter how Ylva passes away, people are going to get killed. If she dies because of retribution from the Saxons, then Ivar will spend all his waken time (which will be almost 24 hours a day, because he can’t fall asleep knowing that she won’t be there when he wakes up) hunting them down and slaughtering them. If she dies of disease, any healer / servant who tended to her had better run (Floki would probably be allowed to live but their relationship will change drastically). And if she dies of natural causes, then Ivar will be so outraged  at the gods that he will become reckless and end up getting killed in battle.

Ylva would cling to Ivar’s body, refusing to let him go. Once she’s been torn away from him, she’d start trying to provoke someone into killing her too. She’d curse the gods for allowing her a short time of happiness, only to take it from her again. She always has some of Ivar’s clothes next to her in bed, but she’s afraid to touch / wear them because they would lose his smell. Her hair becomes long and unkempt again because he’s the only one who gets to touch it.
