🍔 Updated review ━ 📍 Big Fernand ★★☆☆☆ • Big Fernand first opened back in 2012, focusing on high-quality craft burgers. We tried their rustic burgers in 2015 and liked them a lot, and now that we were back in Paris we needed to try them again to see if they still were one of our favourites in France. Their menu contained several different burgers, including a smash burger. So we ordered a classic thick patty burger and a smash burger. Le Bartholmé with a thick patty, raclette cheese, smoked bacon, caramelised onions, chives and a barbecue sauce cost 14.5 EUR (15 USD), and their Smash Fernand with two smashed patties, raclette cheese, chives and a special sauce cost 9 EUR (9.5 USD). The smash burger also included a soft drink and french fries, which sounded like a steal. • Our burgers arrived quickly, but when we unpacked them we had problems containing our laughter, as they really didn’t look up to par. The beef, which should have been the star of our meal, was almost completely hidden by the enormous bun. The smash burger’s patties were super thinly smashed, and hardly tasted of anything. Le Bartholmé’s slightly thicker patty was cooked medium, just as we’d asked, but the slightly strange flavour from the barbecue sauce together with the bacon and fried onions made everything far too sweet. The raclette cheese on both of our burgers became chewy and made the burger hard to eat as well. But at the end of the day, their thick patty burger was still decent, and much better than the smash burger. We remembered their french fries as crispy with a nice seasoning, but this time around they lacked crunch and were covered in what we best could describe as a non-spicy chili powder. • We left Big Fernand disappointed that their quality had dropped so much.
