The Yellow Teddy Bears (AKA Gutter Girls) | Robert Hartford-Davis | 1963
Although sometimes promoted as a schoolgirls-gone-wild exploitation movie The Yellow Teddy Bears (AKA Gutter Girls, AKA Thrill Seekers) is actually a rather earnest social (melo)drama.
A clique of girls at an English grammar school have taken to wearing yellow teddy bear brooches as a secret sign that they've lost their virginity. Good girl Pat (Georgina Patterson) tries to save her girl-in-trouble pal Linda (Annette Whiteley) from making a terrible mistake, predatory abortion fixer June Wilson (Jill Adams) lures girls to her drinks and sex parties, while young teacher Anne Mason (Jacqueline Ellis), who has discovered the secret of the teddy bears, finds her impassioned pleas for some honest communication acreoss the generational divides between teens, teachers, and parents, only serve to bring her own morals and suitability as a teacher into question.
It's a bit dated now but it's subject matter must have been pretty frank in 1963, and it's "message" pretty progressive for the time. Apparently The Beatles were offered a part in the film but gave it a swerve.

Pytheas of Massalia was a Greek geographer, explorer and astronomer from the ancient Greek colony of Massalia — modern-day Marseille, France. In the late 4th century BC, he voyaged from there to northwestern Europe, but his detailed account of it, On The Ocean, survives only in fragments, quoted — and disputed — by later authors such as Strabo, Pliny and Diodorus of Sicily. The Extraordinary Voyage Of Pytheas the Greek by the noted British historian of ancient maritime Europe, Barry Cunliffe, attempts to draw out the reality of what was an extraordinary sea journey, from the Western Mediterranean north along the Atlantic coast of Europe to the British Isles, then even further north, to the near-mythic land of Thule. Cunliffe makes a strong case for Pytheas being “the first European explorer”, while identifying the most likely locations of Thule, sought so avidly by 19th and early 20th century adventurers and artists.
James Hamilton-Paterson’s Seven-Tenths: The Sea And Its Thresholds, published in 1992, more than two thousand years after Pytheas’s On The Ocean, is an ambitious, expressive exploration of the vast aqueous wilderness that covers three-quarters of our planet by a writer of remarkable literary accomplishment (he was one of Martin Amis’s professors at Oxford). Plumbing humanity’s complex, multi-faceted relationship with the sea, Hamilton-Paterson writes vivid, meditative passages about, well, everything — fishing, piracy, oceanography, cartography, exploration, ecology, the ritual of a burial at sea, poetry, and even his own experiences living for extended periods on a small island in the Philippines.
Tom Neale’s autobiography, An Island To Oneself: Six Years On A Desert Island, describes an altogether smaller, more solitary world: the island of Anchorage, part of the Suwarrow Atoll in the South Pacific. Born in New Zealand in 1902, Neale spent most of his life in Oceania: after leaving the Royal New Zealand Navy, he worked for decades aboard inter-island trading vessels and in various temporary jobs ashore before his first glimpse of his desert island home. He moved to Anchorage in 1952 and over three different periods, lived in hermitic solitude for 16 years, with rare visits from yachtsmen, island traders, and journalists. Among the last was Noel Barber, a close friend of my late father: he gave my father a copy of Neale’s book, in Rome, shortly after it was published in 1966 (I still have it). Neale was taken off his beloved island in 1977 and died not long after of stomach cancer.
The Starship And The Canoe by Kenneth Brower, published in 1978, is an unlikely dual biography of a father and son that draws intriguing parallels between the ambitious ideas of renowned British theoretical physicist and mathematician Freeman Dyson — who, in the early 1970s explored concepts for interstellar travel, settlements on comets, and nuclear rockets that might propel mankind to the outer reaches of the universe — and his wayward son, George, who lived in a self-built tree house 30 metres up a Douglas fir overlooking the Strait Of Georgia, in British Columbia and devised large canoes based on Aleut baidarkas in which to paddle north to the wild, uninhabited littoral of southern Alaska. Brower’s descriptions of long passages with the younger Dyson in the cold, sometimes fierce tidal waters between Vancouver Island and the Canadian mainland are gripping and I have read them again and again. It is, unarguably, my favourite book.
The late, New Zealand-born doctor and sailor, David Lewis, is not as widely known as he was half a century ago, even by avid readers of sea stories, but from his earliest memoirs in the 1960s — of his participation in the first-ever singlehanded trans-Atlantic race (The Ship That would Not Sail Due West), and of incident-prone voyages to far-flung coasts with his young family (Dreamers of the Day, Daughters of the Wind, and Children Of Three Oceans) — to his practical, first-hand studies of instrument-less ocean navigation among South Pacific islanders, (We, The Navigators and The Voyaging Stars) in the 1970s, Dr. Lewis was not only the late 20th century’s most remarkable and intelligent writer on the sea and small-boat voyaging but also one of its most adventurous. My favourite of his several books: Ice Bird, published in 1972, an account of a gruelling, almost fatal voyage from Sydney, Australia, in an ill-prepared, steel, 32-foot yacht to achieve the first singlehanded circumnavigation of Antarctica.
It’s said that spending time anywhere with Lorenzo Ricciardi, late ex-husband of Italian photographer Mirella Ricciardi, was an adventure. A film-maker and former senior advertising executive, once described by a British writer as “a penniless Neapolitan count”, he gambled at roulette to raise enough money to buy an Arab dhow, which, in the 1970s, with little seafaring experience and plenty of mishaps, he sailed from Dubai to the Arabian Gulf, and from there down the Arabian to coast of Africa, where the dhow was shipwrecked among the Comoros Islands. The Voyage Of The Mir El Ah is Lorenzo’s picaresque account (illustrated by Mirella’s photographs). Astoundingly, several years later, Lorenzo and Mirella Ricciardi completed an even more dangerous, 6,000-kilometre voyage across Equatorial Africa in an open boat — and another book, African Rainbow: Across Africa By Boat.
Italian madmen aside, it used to be that you could rely on surfers for poor impulse control and reckless adventures, on the water and off. Back in the late 1990s, Allan Weisbecker sold his home, loaded his dog and a quiver of surfboards onto a truck, and drove south from the Mexican border into Central America to figure out what had happened to an old surfing buddy — in between checking out a few breaks along the way. In Search Of Captain Zero: A Surfer's Road Trip Beyond The End Of The Road is a memoir of a two-year road-trip that reads like a dope-fuelled fiction but feels more real than William Finnegan’s somewhat high-brow (and more successful) Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life.
Which brings me to Dana and Ginger Lamb. In 1933, these newly-weds would certainly have been looked at askance by most of their middle-American peers when they announced that they weren’t ready yet to settle down and instead built a 16-foot hybrid canoe-sailboat and set of on what would turn out to be a 16,000-mile, three year journey down the Pacific coasts of Mexico, Guatemala, Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica to the Panama Canal. Dana’s 415-page book, Enchanted Vagabonds, published in 1938, was an unexpected New York Times best-seller and today is more exciting to read than the ungainly, yawn-inducing books produced by so many, more commercially-minded, 21st century adventurers.
First published in Sirene, No. 17, Italy, 2023.

THE GRAND TRINE When I started studying astrology (1967 at age 13), everything in astrology was of the mindset that "this is good and that is bad." It was so fate oriented that I was actually going to leave astrology alone but common sense stepped into my life in the form of Noel Tyl and all of that fatalistic nonsense was put to bed permanantly. Of course, the top of the "this is good" list was trines. You were made to think of a trine as being the equivalent of hitting a small lottery. Contrarily, a horoscope dominated by hard aspects meant doom. My first thought, even as an above average teenager was that no life is without issues. You learn in spiritual studies that the whole purpose of life is to go through processes of failure, difficulties, happiness, and success in order to learn lessons, grow, and evolve on a soul level. No one gets a pass, regardless of the horoscope.Trines are not going to prevent issues, even in a horoscope with a Grand Trine. I was made to believe, as a newbie in astrology, that if you have a Grand Trine, it would be like hitting the lottery for 8 figures at age 22, getting the dream partner to marry, and just have a ball until life ends! The late Muhammad Ali would second what I am saying here. Sure, he had phenomenal success and at one point was the most recognized person in the world. But.....he lived the last 35 years or so of his life with deteriorating health via the Parkinson's disease. That's not luck and good fortune. This is an excerpt on the Grand Trine from one of the books that I'll have released in early 2023: The next horoscope (not shown here but it's Muhammad Ali's chart) example shows a Grand Trine in the Earth element. The Sun is trined by Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The Sun receives tension aspects from Mars and Pluto. Saturn and Uranus are squared by Venus. In a Grand Trine, one set of need energies (Sun) flows smoothly into yet another set of need energies (Saturn-Uranus), which flows smoothly into yet another set of need energies (Neptune), creating routinized holistic responses. A sense of completeness is formed within the identity that manifests as defensiveness, as self-sufficiency in terms of the element so conspicuously emphasized. And because of this, the Grand Trine is self-isolating in its manifestation. It tends to work against relationship unless there is a square, opposition, or quindecile (you will soon learn about it) to a point in the Grand Trine. In analysis, see the Grand Trine as an entire structure, not one of three or more separate parts. As a powerful defense mechanism in development, it is a key observation for interpretation. So, behaviorally, the Grand Trine represents self-sufficiency. It's the "I don't need you" syndrome that is used as a defense. For example, in Water, there is an emotional self-sufficiency that works to protect the fear of being hurt [again]. There was a song back in the 70's by a singer named, Ronnie Dyson. It's called, "One Man Band." It was produced by one of my musical production idols, Thom Bell. The words for the song perfectly describes the behavioral dimension of the Grand Trine. A ONE MAN BAND PLAYS ALL ALONE, HE PLAYS TO A SONG OF HIS OWN. That says it all about the Grand Trine. It's not a life of good luck and all that stuff from the ancient days of astrology.

<<THE RECAP>>
The Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag that I saw all over Disney World last week, priced at $38, which was the most popular item at Lululemon in 2022- is it worth the hype? Travel and Leisure weighs in.
While being midway though watching the White Lotus season two, I cannot help but notice the exquisite fashion of the characters. Town and Country breaks down critical moments throughout the show.
The iconic Mickey Bar sold at the Disney Parks has been available at Publix for some time. At $6.00 per bar in the park, the Publix variety costs $10.79 for a package of 6. Walt Disney World News does a taste test to see which is the superior Mickey.
The best thing I ate at Walt Disney World: Mushroom Risotto at Le Cellier Steakhouse. I had always wanted to try this restaurant- it was always booked whenever I was at Disney. The risotto was outstanding, it tasted very rich, creamy, a lot like a mushroom pasta. Definitely something I plan on making and eating these over these next couple of weeks.

Week 1/52. Dec5-Dec11
1. Just trying to keep track of my life and keep myself accountable
2. Went to the gym after literally 2 months of MIA cause of cough. It’s good to be back. Bought a tablet to keep track of progress and day to day life. I honestly hate going to the gym and would rather not doing anything but I know it doesn’t work like that LOL. I always knew I’m meant to move and not be stagnant in all aspects of my life that needs improving.
3. This week, Gel’s uncle passed away. Had a talk with my family about being healthier. Unfortunately I was met with a carefree attitude. That’s all right though as I get their thoughts and POV. My dad even hoped that I would be better than them. I also wish to grow a household that values a more healthy lifestyle. Here’s to wishing I marry someone with the same mentality.
4.Bought a Dyson Fan as part of my little collection to bring to my future home. Unfortunately, I don’t know when that would be so I let my family borrow it. That’s a little bit of heartbreak cause I always envisioned opening all these boxes with my S/O.
5. Celebrated Tito Noels birthday. I’m a big fan of people with a can do attitude and a sense of independence to match. I hope to be like this when I’m older
6. Catch me next week where I track of calories and my protein intake. I know that I’ll slip here and there. I’m not aiming for perfection but I’m trying to build a better foundation of habits as I reach my 30′s

Apple TV+ announces new comedy series starring Noel Fielding
Apple announced a series order for a new untitled comedy-adventure series starring Noel Fielding (“The Mighty Boosh,” “The Great British Bake Off”).
Fielding will star as Dick Turpin, the legendary British highwayman. In this irreverent retelling, Dick is the most famous, but least likely of highway robbers, whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship and great hair. Together with his gang of loveable rogues, Dick rides the highs and lows of celebrity — and does what he can to escape the clutches of the Thief Taker General.
Produced for Apple TV+ by Big Talk Productions, part of ITV Studios, the series will be directed by Ben Palmer (“The Inbetweeners Movie,” “Breeders”), written and created by Claire Downes, Stuart Lane and Ian Jarvis (“The Outlaws,” “The Job Lot”), with Fielding and Jeremy Dyson (“The League Of Gentlemen”) as script consultants. Executive producers are Kenton Allen, Fielding, Victoria Grew, Matthew Justice and Palmer.
The new series will join an expanding slate of award-winning and critically hailed comedies on Apple TV+, including the Emmy Award-winning global hit comedy series “Ted Lasso,” as well as “Mythic Quest,” “The Afterparty,” AFI Award winner “Schmigadoon!,” Peabody Award-winning “Dickinson,” “Mythic Quest,” Emmy Award-nominated “Central Park,” and “Trying.”

Father Dear Father ** (1973, Patrick Cargill, Jill Melford, Natasha Pyne, Ann Holloway, Noel Dyson, Joyce Carey, Ursula Howells) – Classic Movie Review 9840
Director William G Stewart’s 1973 British comedy Father Dear Father is a pleasant record – if a pointless expansion – of the popular, simple Seventies British TV comedy show into a feature-length format that unfortunately only stresses the failings of the original series by extending a slight story to 99 minutes of screen time.
Gifted farceur Patrick Cargill (1918–1996) is fine as he re-creates…

Doomwatch: Sex And Violence (3.12, BBC, untransmitted)
"People are continually saying to me: 'Arthur Ballantyne, you're a cultured, educated man. You love horses and dogs, you have an appreciation of the arts, you're a man of great sensitivity - and yet you espouse philosophies of racial hatred, sexual inhibition, violence upon the streets. We can't understand you, Arthur Ballantyne!' To which I reply: I did not invent racial hatred. I had nothing to do with the repression of generations of children. The anger in people is what makes them strike out, and that's there whether you or I like it or not."
"But you use it in a vain and comical attempt to get a dictator's power!"
"And why not, Doctor Quist? Why would you deprive me of the freedom to do that which is being done already every day - by politicians and journalists, and advertisers and businessmen? They make money out of it, they subjugate nations! They suppress minorities! And they do it under the mask of a so-called democratic society. It's their freedom to do it that we vote for! Well, someone else is getting into the act now. If... you have created a society in which a naked couple cavorting on a public stage is more shocking than a million on the dole; a hundred-thousand homeless; a half a million dead in Pakistan... don't blame me for taking advantage of it!"

Presumably because of the use of real footage of executions which is as disturbing as it sounds#But possibly also because it is so clearly satirising Mary Whitehouse and her clean up television campaign. For all that slightly#Ott aspects of the episode it's a very intelligent and thoughtful meditation on the potential ills of censorship and the responsibility (or#Not) of a governing body to safeguard moral wellbeing. It's a shame Ridge isn't around as he would have been great fun in this one#And Bown is of course a conservative dullard. Once again Doomwatch are on the periphery of the action and Quist himself asks why they are#Involved more than once. A great guest cast that includes old faves Horsfall (wash your mouth out Bernard!) and Wilde but it's#Nick Selby as the fringe politician funding the protests that steals the episode. Particularly his final scene with Quist in which he quite#Openly discusses his political motivations and the sheer hollow self interest which has led to him championing hate and intolerance in the#Masses. It's as chilling a bit of dialogue Doomwatch ever made and horrifyingly realistic and recognisable in today's political climate

He's signed up, alongside several other top comedians, to star in more of Sky Arts' Urban Myths — the show which got in trouble last year for casting white actor Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson in one of its comedy biopics.
Poirot's David Suchet will be playing Dali, while Noel Fielding has been perfectly cast as Alice Cooper for the comedy written by The Thick of It and Veep's Roger Drew and Ed Dyson.
