Y’know plot-wise, I understand why Sasaki and Oboro had to go, but I wish they lived until the end if only because all the potential shenanigans they might get involved in are infinitely funny to me.
Them trying to unalive each other behind Nobume’s back, Oboro being flabbergasted after watching Sasaki summon Nobume with a donut attached to a fishing rod, Oboro getting a phone, Sasaki finding out about it and spamming him with stupid texts and shitposts while calling him “Obo-tan”, Nobume watching this unfold and not doing a thing to stop it, the possibilities are endless.

hc for shoka sonjuku + nobume. nobume sleeps in class just like gintoki does and sometimes she sneaks off with gintoki to steal donuts from the local shop. The only reason why shouyou doesn't get on her case is because she somehow passes all his classes while being a sleep 99% of the time 😭😭

for the work in progress guessing game! ask
Hello! I think your asked was cut off 🥲 I really would love to know the complete sentence about this so I could answer this one properly! 💙
Edited:
Thank you for clarifying it up in the notes! 😭 sorry I got confused about your ask, but I really hope I’m not too late into answering them!
Without further ado, here’s a WIP I’ve been working on with the word “ask” on it!
****
“What is the meaning of this?” Utsuro asked. He curls his hand at the handle of his sword as he makes eye contact at the first poor lad he sees. Then smiles, serenely.
The unnamed crow trembles.
“Gintoki brought in two children. An amanto girl and a human boy.” The guard’s answer immediately piqued Utsuro’s interest.
Children? Gintoki?
Of all his children, Gintoki was the cruelest. A demon born in hell. Despite his laziness and disgusting mannerism of living like a slob and not giving a fuck towards literally anything unless it has to do with his favorite diabetes induced-snacks or a mission (which he always complained about and procrastinate in the very last minute), Utsuro got to hand it to him, Gintoki got the job done in a short period of time with a surprisingly decent result albeit the bloody mess he left behind.

literally girlbosses.
i just know that nobume sniffed sakamoto's baka aura and attacked him, only for mutsu to block her attack. then they had a badass fight. after that, mutsu and nobume had to patch themselves up and nobume would have been like, "sorry i hurt you so bad, it wouldn't have happened if you weren't in the way." and mutsu would have been like, "yeah no worries, i understand the urge to hit the baka captain."
and then nobume would be like: ??? tf you saving him for???

Gintama’s Courtesan of a Nation Arc, Ikkoku Keisei Hen.
Before seeing the movie theater version, I finally looked up the Japanese name of the arc (mostly as part of my efforts to improve my Japanese.)
一国傾城
‘Ikkoku’ (一国) as ‘a nation’ is a pretty straightforward translation. ‘Ichi’ (one) plus ‘kuni’ (country) equals ‘the whole country’, an entire nation.
‘Keisei’ (傾城) however, had been on my mind for days.
A word borrowed from Chinese and expressed with the characters 傾 (to lean, wane, collapse, topple) and 城 (castle), it describes a beauty so devastating, it can topple nations. (Wiktionary)
‘Homewrecker?’ was my first thought as an English equivalent of the idea, but ‘femme fatale’ seems more fitting. When it comes to Western examples of a nation-toppling beauty, Helen of Troy comes to mind, but the phrase comes from a story about Consort Li, a concubine to the Emperor Wu of Han.
“There is a beauty in the north, who stands out among the generations. One look will topple the men of the city. A second look will topple the men of the country. I would rather not know about toppled cities and toppled countries, because a beauty of this caliber may not come around again!” 「北方有佳人,絕世而獨立,一顧傾人城,再顧傾人國。寧不知傾城與傾國,佳人難再得!」
(Wiktionary)
Tumblr media
Getting back to Gintama, the legendary courtesan, Suzuran, was called ‘Keisei Suzuran’ because of her remarkable beauty. As one of her clients described her, she was graceful, with silky hair, glossy lips, and eyes that shined with kindness. The readers were probably meant to understand the title in a figurative sense (despite all the jokes and puns Gintoki makes early on about the now-elderly Suzuran being ready to ‘topple’ over). As the story unravels, however, the epithet becomes less an allusion and more an apt description, considering Suzuran’s involvement with the upheaval of the past.
Later, as Gintoki and his friends raid the castle, Kagura, Tsukuyo, and Nobume declare themselves ‘Keisei’, three beauties ready to topple a castle and a nation, turning the figurative allusion into a literal threat.
