Record #190: N.E.R.D. - No_One Ever Really Dies (2017)

First of all, cute backronym of the band name. Second of all, this album was way more rock-orientated than i was expecting but im into the post-punk and hip-hop blending that the tracklist had going on. Third of all, as a society we need to ban ed sheeran from any recording studio. Fav tracks are Lemon, Viola, ESP and Kites. 7/10

Coming from anyone other than the superproducer Pharrell Williams, that might've sounded like the opening incantation of some esoteric religious experience. But on Saturday night, Williams' pulpit was ComplexCon, where his genre-bending band N.E.R.D. made a surprise reveal.

Two days after returning from a seven-year hiatus to release the lead single and video "Lemon" (featuring Rihanna), Williams, Chad Hugo and Shay Haley took the stage of the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Complex to premiere the new album, No_One Ever Really Dies, in its entirety.

 Brilliant album! N.E.R.D finally perfects their sound. Fun, different and eccentric whilst still being accessible. That's rare these days but Pharrell and the gang pull it off. Don't Don't Do It is possibly the best song I have heard this year. Give this album a listen and do yourself a favor!  Read my full review and analyses of the record here
