This is a long post but not a vent its the opposite of a vent ykwim like a long happy rant

I love you all so much.

Maybe I’m just all dramatic and emotional because I’m on my period, maybe because I’m writing this late at night and I’m gonna think it’s really cringe in the morning, but I love you guys so much. Tumblr has brought me so much joy. I’ve been here for maybe three or four months now? And I can’t really think of a time in my life where I was happier. 

I first made an account after scrolling aimlessly. I would go onto the tumblr website and it would let me search a bit until it was like “you need to make an account to keep going!!” And then I’d just close it and move on. But then one day I decided  hey what the heck just do it. So I made an account, and I didn’t really know what I was doing. I came up with this username because I liked conan gray, I gave myself  a daphne blake profile picture because she has red hair, and just kinda explored. 

I looked through tags of fandoms I love like the inheritance games and pjo and shatter me and even scythe (which was when i was then brought to the realization that the aoas fandom really is dead everywhere even here😔). But I just kinda explored.

Then I found all you guys, the cute aesthetic tumblrinas! And omg I thought everyone was so cool. Pretty much everyone I’m mutuals with now is someone who i found their blog and was like OMG I WANNA BE ONE OF THEM!! I loved the friendships and the connection and just seeing everyone interact made me so happy. I think one of the first people to follow me back was Belle and I remember I legit freaked out because omg!! Shes so cool!! 

Now that I’m telling the story it’s a little embarrassing, but it’s fine. I just know I was slowly growing my blog and meeting new people but I still didn’t feel like I had real friends, it hadn’t been that long. But I think it all kinda happened after I accidentally deleted my account, and I sent panic asks to everyone. And you guys were so nice and so sweet and for a lot of people it was some of the first interactions we had. 

I have the world’s worst memory, but it just kinda took off from there. 

And now I am friends with all you guys!! I’m so incredibly glad I decided to make this blog that day because omg. I’d seen people talk about online friends but I’d never had any. But now?? OMGG I UNDERSTAND!!! I finally have people who are just as obsessed with the books/tv/movies/music/everything that I am!! 

My friends IRL are nice, they’ve read the books I read, but I cant talk to them the way I do you guys, yknow? Tumblr is literally just such a safe space for me. I have a bad day, come online, and my mood is lifted. It makes me so happy and it also makes me feel so validated for whatever weird interests or feelings I have! I have a weird thought? Post it to tumblr! It’s just so amazing, how there’s people all over the world who care about me even a little, even just enough to like my shitposts. 

I’ve even infiltrated both the shatter me and tig roleplays, and I’ve really just done everything I could’ve hoped for when I joined tumblr. I used to be the one watching everyone interact, and now I am the one interacting! I don't think you guys understand how much you all mean to me. Especially as someone with bad social anxiety, who struggles with making friends irl. I also don’t believe in popularity in schools, thats stupid, but technically i’m not a “popular kid.” So I have friends, but not a billion. But here? Everyone is friends on tumblr!! It’s so amazing. I love you all so much. 

That’s long and honestly pretty sappy, also yall probably don't care about my whole tumblr history and how i got here (plus no one asked), but I felt like i wanted to share. There’s so much more I wanna say, but surprisingly enough as a writer, I’m not always the best at expressing my feelings over writing. My love language is physical touch, not words of affirmation. Which suckss cause i cant give you guys that. But this is as good as i can get. 

So thank you to everyone, my mutuals and followers and whatever. Thank you for being so loving. Thank you for being stupid with me. Thank you for listening to me rant about nonsense. Thank you for liking my posts. thank you for being here. Thank you for making me feel safe.

Weird media guilt cycle : Why I stopped watching, reading and writing about OF

So I used to be pretty active on here about a certain show (ahem ahem) while it was airing, but I started falling behind on new episodes airing and I started feeling ... Guilty ?

Like, my reasons for taking a break were real but not that deep :

despite being really fun to watch, it brought back memories of a pretty chaotic time in my life and made it tricky for me to handle some of my emotions regarding basically all the characters

I was just visiting my partner in Canada and wasn't prioritising watching this show.

But nevertheless, I fell an episode behind, which was normal. Then two. And then three. And at this point there was so many meta posts to engage with, so many things I was tagged in, so much I wanted to read, I didn't know where to start, and I didn't want to get spoiled. And I felt weirdly guilty for not being able to engage, maybe because this was my first time being involved in any kind of Tumblr community.

I felt bad not to reply and contribute to the discourse around the show ; I wanted to avoid spoilers and was so behind so I couldn't read anything and could barely go on Tumblr for a bit, because it was also reminding me I was Behind™. See how other feelings about my life were starting to get into it.

I felt like by the time I would come around to watch, everything meaningful would have been said, and like I had to be the first to comment on something for it to be valuable, and like I was not as dedicated as everyone else. Like I wasn't being productive enough, original enough... About watching one damn show.

I loved watching it ! And watching it with a community, analysing it with everyone, reading all the great posts, was so fun ! But suddenly it caused me dread.

Because coincidentally, many other things in my life that I liked stopped being fun around the same time. Other life stuff made me sink. And this show kinda became emblematic of the pause it felt like my life was taking, of me not being able to follow through, of me feeling directionless. Of me feeling like I had to focus on productive things to be worth of existing, like I was existing in an in between where I wasn't accomplishing enough. And I couldn't watch shows at all for the most part, much less shows about characters feeling lost in their lives.

Ridiculous? Yes. Very real for anxiety-ridden me? Also yes.

I was talking with my therapist the other day though, and we noted that I'm lacking creative outlets since my little depression-y phase a month ago. And that in a way, reading and writing meta about that show was filling a need for creative stuff in my life, since I no longer do YouTube/Tiktok like I also used to.

So ! After a month of being harsh with myself, I'm trying to reintroduce little joys, little moments of creation. And it's silly that writing meta about a show might be part of that, but I guess it was a form of self expression, and in my current phase I need any alley of self expression I can get.

All of this to say... I'm going to start watching that show again !

I'm going to catch up on all the amazing posts people have written about it. I'm going to write silly or serious posts about it. I'm going to try and have fun with it.

Is there any big lesson ? Probably not, or only that we truly have interesting relationships with pieces of media and online communities way beyond what they're actually about.

Also please tell me, has anyone else done this ? I feel very weird.

tumblr etiquette 101

a list that is nowhere near exhaustive, from yours truly.

First off, welcome! Whether you’re a twitter veteran looking for anything but whatever twitter is, or a new user just done signing up, glad to see you in our ranks beloveds! Welcome home. Refer to this quick tour to make sure your fandom experience (or tumblr experience in general) is a positive one!

Disclaimer: I know it’s long, but please try to read or skim through til the end if you’re new here! This is by no means meant to be a rule book (for the most part lol), only a guide to help you get settled easier!

1) Your blog

This is where people will see and interact with you, so put some effort into it!

Try to choose a name (url) that’s simple. You can see it as your brand, it’s how people will perceive you and remember you. If you’d like to interact with other users here (and not use the site just for the content) it’s better to have something short and sweet, preferably without spaces. (Of course, these are only suggestions.) Rest assured, you can change it literally any time you want.

Have a theme. Utilize the tool that lets you edit your blog’s color or the font of your bio! You can make it match your profile picture, or your blog if it has a theme of its own. Make it feel homey :]

Fill in your bio. People will be checking out your profile probably more often than you think. Don’t leave it empty! Put in any information you’re comfortable with sharing and isn’t too personal (like your age if you’re a minor, or other TMI that can be found on other people’s carrds). It’s always better to add a name/nickname people can use to refer to you by, but feel free to use your blog description to shitpost still.

You can have an intro post. More often than not, you’ll see a blog have a pinned post, a post permanently appearing at the top of a blog until you pin another post or unpin it. You can make one of those, if you’d like to introduce yourself in more length, link any other socials or a carrd, and show others visiting your blog how you tag things so it’ll be easy for them to navigate. Not an obligation.

Keep your anonymity and your safety. It should go without saying, but there’s no harm in repeating it just in case. Your comfort, privacy and safety has the utmost importance. Don’t share any information you don’t want to. Don’t share your age if you’re a minor, or any other incredibly personal info. I’d encourage you to go by a nickname that’s not your real name, (blog name, your brand, remember?) since there’s safety in anonymity, and that’s lowkey one of the big deals of tumblr, but that’s up to you still.

Choose what you want to be visible. Your liked posts and who you follow are all things you can set to keep to yourself and hide from the publics eye, how handy! You should go through all the setting while you’re at it, set it to your comfort.

Side blogs are a thing. You can have multiple blogs that you can use for different things (see: different fandoms, art blog, etc) to keep them organized or away from your followers. Just remember that the replies and off-anon asks you send will be from your main blog, as well as where you follow other blogs from.

2) Interacting with others

You’ve set up your account, now comes the fun part!

Follow to your heart’s desire. If you care about others seeing who you follow, fear not! In tumblr, usually only two types of blogs keep their following visible to others: newbies, and big blogs using it to point people on other good blogs’ direction. Just turn it off, and go ham following people.

Customize your dashboard. Gonna mention just two things here: this is another reason why it’s really important that you follow blogs without sparing, your dash will collect dust otherwise; and you should turn off “best stuff first” in your dashboard settings, to have a better community here and all.

Follow tags. You can set it in your settings that posts with your followed tags appear on your dashboard.

You can check the og post for edits and context. When you see a reblogged post you don’t understand the context of (or don’t recognize the character in case of fanarts), click on the profile so it will take you to the original post. From there you can check the original poster’s tags to get the context, or see if there have been any edits made to the post, since when you edit a post it doesn’t update any past reblogs.

Send people asks... This is how you make mutuals, people! Do it off-anon if you’d like them to know your blog, or anon if you’d rather not! (You can still end your messages with a signature to show you’re the same person, -[name] is one example.) Send them nice messages, ask their opinion on something, discuss things, or just straight up shitpost lol. Go wild. The sky’s your limit and it’s definitely more than 280 characters.

...and let them ask you! You can set your preference in the settings, do it on desktop tumblr to access more settings tho! What you can customize on mobile is limited (like letting people ask you things anonymously, that’s only on desktop settings). In my personal opinion, it’s always better to tag their username (or a nickname you give them, if they’re a friend) on that post, since you wouldn’t want your interactions with your friends to get buried in your blog forever.

Comment on posts. If you have something to say but don’t want the post to appear on your blog you can add a comment. The owner of the post will get a notif for it, but for anyone else you need to tag them.

For the love of god, reblog. People will only see your liked posts if you have it visible to public and they specifically go on your blog to look at them. You like something? You reblog. It’s already hard for posts to circulate properly, if you don’t reblog them literally no one will see them. If not for anything do it for the artists. Just hold and drag on mobile to fast rb.

3) Your Posts

Finally here! Don’t be a lurker, post and engage!

Make use of “read more”. If your post is long, add it. That’s what you clicked on earlier to expand this post. On desktop leave an empty line and you’ll see three dots appear, and on mobile type :readmore: on that empty line.

Draft a post to come back to it later. Pretty self explanatory.

Queue your post. Whether it’s your own post or you’re reblogging, make use of the queue feature to a) not spam reblog and fill up the dashboard of people following you and b) keep your blog active while you’re gone. Mess around in the settings, it’s fairly easy to set up.

Schedule your post. Same as queueing, the only difference is you get to choose the exact time your post will go up. Handy if you want to schedule a post for certain dates like april fools, or 5 years in the future for some reason. 

Format your texts. You can do all kinds of fancy stuff here (that’s a link, try pressing on it). Twitter doesn’t have this, make use of it. Changes depending on whether you’re on mobile or desktop. (Desktop has less features.)

Check your stats. If you’re trying to understand the algorithm better or want to look at some pretty graphs you can get your data on that on desktop tumblr.

@ people in comments. You’ll get all the notifs when people comment on your posts but they won’t see your reply unless you tag them in your message.

4) Tags, and tagging a post

This is where my earlier statement “this isn’t a rule book” stops being applicable. It’s not a war crime to go against these, I won’t come chasing you (don’t take my word for this) but you’ll work up a bad rep. Just saying lol.

Do NOT crosstag posts. It’s really tempting to add unrelated tags to increase your posts’ interaction, I know, but that’s not what tumblr is about. Don’t be a dick and make other communities’ experience worse for them.

Always tag your posts with “crit/critical/discourse/etc” if it calls for it. There’s no exceptions to it. This is the reason you see people migrating to tumblr. Let people enjoy things.

Don’t main tag a critical/negative post. If your crit post is about “Thing”, you add the “Thing critical” tag, but not the “Thing” tag. People block crit tags if they don’t want to see it, don’t shove it in their faces by main tagging it. 

If you don’t want to see something, just block it. Another reason why people are able to survive on tumblr. You don’t start discourse, you don’t make call-outs, you block. You can find something for every community you can think of if you go looking for it. The worst of the worst probably won’t ever appear on your dash, but if you’re worried or feel the need for it, you know where the block button is.

Feel free to shitpost or ramble. More often than not you’ll see people rb a post with a comment, and their elaboration will be in the tags. The tags are only visible on your profile and the notifications of the owner of the og blog. Just a thing people do.

Reblog artists’ posts with nice comments in the tags! Commenting on a drawing is usually done through the tags (Not an obligation, again, just a thing people do. Feel free to add your comment on the rb itself if you’d want other people to see it tho!) and leave nice messages for the artists! It’s a win-win for everyone involved. 

If you have more than a single follower, always use the common tw warning tags. You don’t need to tw everything, but tw’ing some common things is the bare minimum human decency. Keep it safe for others. 

Tag a post “long post” if it’s really long. Pretty self explanatory. Don’t make people scroll through all that please lol. 

You can use them to organize your blog. This is more of a pro tip, if you’d like to not miss a post in your blog, cause they will start pilin’ up soon enough.

#Liveblogging is pretty fun. If you’d like to talk to people during streams, don’t forget to add the relevant tags still! Again, you won’t show up on people’s dash otherwise.

Promo(tional) Post

I’m Overlard/Lard/OL and I bring the word today, and the word is that this is a promotional post in an attempt to increase the amount of active blogs following me because I’m pretty sure a solid 1/3rd are completely dead.

I once roleplayed on MSPAF, if you’ve ever heard of “the Café” you can safely blame me for its steady decline. Sometime during that I started RPing on tumblr and I’ve been on again off again roleplaying here ever since (especially after the forum got nuked).

I live on the east coast of America and I have a full time job, so I can’t really do much during the day beyond occasionally shitpost on my phone. That said, I’m usually available via tumblr DM anyway since my job is chill enough not to care about being on the phone so long as the work gets done.

Anyway, uh, my main trolls right now are the following assholes:

I don’t really have much artistic skill since I’ve only done sprite and meme edits, but i compensate for this by writing constantly! Like, really constantly! My writing tag is littered with whatever I put out! Here’s some fun selections!

Platar commits war crimes, but it’s for a good cause.

The bartender reached under the bar for an appropriately disgusting mug, glass filled with unidentifiable bits of material and heavily marked and scratched, then shoved it under the tap. He pulled the tap, and a sickly looking yellow beer poured out from the spigot into the mug, which he slid over to Platar. The anonymous troll caught it, reluctantly, with one fortunately gloved hand.

Gerrel wants to be a good moirail, and good moirails know how to work around their palerom’s horrific diets (Ft. Callan Ranpoe, who belongs to raitrolling, CW for emetophobia)

The primary issue at hand was that Callan loved all those flavors which were absolutely terrible for you, namely sweetness in particular. He also particularly enjoyed dishes made with excess butter or cheese products. Gerrel had so far managed to get by through serving dishes that made partial use out of them, but none of it felt right. It was like trying to swim upstream, he was making headway, but there was resistance at each step. Unlike fighting a river, he was just trying to help someone he loved, and it would just be... better, if he wasn't trying to force it.

Xrumon really needs to visit a therapist

Honestly?  I think it’s garbage.

As someone with crippling anxiety and mental health issues, and as someone who works with countless patients with mental health issues, those kinds of guilt trippings posts are more harmful than they are helpful to whatever cause they’re insisting you spread word about, at least on this particular site.  People come to Tumblr to have fun, look at and reblog fun things, and get away from the things they’re facing in the real world around the clock.  Throwing those kinds of guilt trips in their faces is unhelpful at best and damaging AF at worst.  Besides that, just because someone doesn’t reblog a post about a particular issue doesn’t mean they’re not invested and supportive in other ways.  

Stop it.  Don’t be that asshole.

Okay, so Minna Sundberg uploaded a new comic, and, uh...what happened? 

It’s called “Lovely People” if I remember correctly. It started out as a pretty decent commentary on social credit systems, but then spiraled downwards into a Fundamentalist Christian tract. The entire reason I liked her work to begin with was because yes, she had a great art style, but also because Stand Still Stay Silent was an interesting usage of pagan mythologies. 

According to the author’s note, she found a newfound faith in Christianity, which is great and all, but, like...I’m concerned? Not just for her work, but for her as well. Saying that her audience can only repent for their sins by converting is a staggeringly terrible idea and kind of a spit in the face to some of them, especially people like me who don’t have religious beliefs. 

I’m not sure what to think. I’m just...I’m just kind of confused right now, if I’m being honest. This probably shouldn’t affect me as bad as it does, but it does. I hope Stand Still Stay Silent doesn’t turn into Lovely People, because I genuinely enjoy Stand Still Stay Silent and I really don’t want to stop reading it if she starts cramming her beliefs into it. I don’t normally mind works when they’re political from the start, but just shoving it into something that wasn’t political to begin with seems like a recipe for disaster.

1. Why did you choose your url?

I chose this url cause I’m a huge moon enthusiast, I’ve always gravitated towards the moon ever since I was a child (it’s always calmed and grounded me). And beta well, for multiple reasons! When it comes to writing I like to beta, and drawing I find beta work to be amazing. And lastly with abo dynamics I would totally be a beta lol! So all around I’m a beta when it comes to doing things. So hence moonsbeta!

Nope! This is my only blog, and has been for awhile! Although this is not my first blog, I previously had two others (I think lol)

I haven’t! Not that I remember, even online I’m scared of confrontation LOL! I know that I have a private post that I made which is reallly long responding to someone that said some unnecessary stuff I disagreed with but I didn’t have the guts to post it publicly!

15. How do you feel about ‘you need to reblog this’ posts?

I don’t like it when posts have that or are being too aggressive with a “you’re ‘this’ if you don’t reblog” cause I don’t want guilt-tripping to be the reason for a reblog.

also it makes my ocd act up and I become anxious if I don’t do it or don’t want to reblog cause I feel like something bad might happen and I don’t want anyone else to feel bad because calling people things will only diminish the real meaning behind those words and actual victims of those kinds of people, and make innocent people feel bad about themselves in the end.

I do! It makes me feel good when I get tagged, I love it! And I really enjoy reading what my mutual said and then responding with my own things!

One of my favorite words is the Japanese word なさい nasai, which I learned way before I learned Japanese.

Because it means "please", but unlike most words for please in most languages, it carries a connotation of "you're not allowed to say no".

See, in English, we use the same "please" for "please donate to help our cause" (optional), and "please open your textbooks to page 52" (not optional), but in Japanese, these are different words!

Honestly, though. I think it’s a good thing how much anime can pander.

For instance, Mahouka, (also known as The Irregular at Magic High School).

The main character is sorted into the “dumb” classes because he did poorly on the entrance exam. Except he’s really smart! He’s actually better than anyone else at magic, it’s just that his style of magic isn’t what the entrance exam tests for! Also he’s secretly the mysterious inventor of a new kind of magic wand everyone uses, who never shows his face! Also the most popular girl in school has a crush on him, and is also his sister! Also the government comes by the school and tells him they need his help! It turns out he’s actually a special operative for the military, but the government tells his classmates to keep it a secret!

I’m sure this sounds horribly written to some people, but I don’t know if I understand that viewpoint. Like complaining that something is “too” awesome. There’s probably something I’m missing.

I still get the impression a lot of people don’t understand what doxxing is.

(I’m not vagueblogging about any specific incident, this has come up in three separate high-profile incidents in three entirely separate parts of the internet.)

Doxxing rarely involves literally hacking someone’s private information. Usually, it just involves using Google to find publicly available information, often accidentally published by the person being doxxed.

So this makes “it’s easy to find on Google so it’s not doxxing” and “they accidentally leaked it themselves so it’s not doxxing” kind of nonsensical. That’s literally all doxxing is.

All 15 of these characters exist, although most of them are pretty obscure. The mix of Traditional and Simplified versions of the metal radical is because some of these are so obscure not to have a Simplified version.

Cross-referencing several dictionaries to find information on these characters:

i hope this doesn’t come across as rude in any way at all but i do feel like i’ve kinda got to defend chikage in a way.

chikage has been made to believe that hisoka was at fault, that hisoka killed august. that the fact that his family had fallen apart was all because of hisoka - he knows nothing about what has happened. all he sees is someone he once called his brother living his best life after killing august.

now obviously chikage goes about his revenge plan completely the wrong way, but he’s filled with so much anger that hisoka is alive after supposedly killing august and sadness that august is no longer around. he wants hisoka to be alone, just how chikage has been alone since the incident happened. and the best way to chikage is to destroy the one place hisoka now calls home.

just because chikage is a good liar doesn’t necessarily mean he’s gonna know when someone else is lying, especially when he’s been forced to believe and has accepted that hisoka was the one at fault. when hisoka says he doesn’t remember, to chikage, who’s still angry, that seems like an excuse.

again, i’m really not trying to be rude or mean at all!! and i’m also not defending what chikage did at all because it is wrong, but you do have to try and understand why chikage acted how he did.

I feel like people are misunderstanding what I was trying to say, I was just answering the anon’s question on “what chikage did” because in a previous post of mine I said something like, “Good thing he’s not telling the rest of Mankai what he did-!” (Not like a “why did chikage...?”, y’know?)

Another is that I didn’t know the motivations (or emotions) behind his actions, I DO!! I truly do understand the reasons why Chikage felt and did the actions that he did (not to brag but I figured it out pretty quickly a little before the game explained stuff), I just didn’t add the reasons to the post to (A.) avoid more spoilers and just get to the juicy stuff the anon probs wanted and (B.) cause I just wanted to roast him and I like Hisoka a lot 😅

It’s my own fault for that though due to my shitpost language, though I really appreciate the explanation of Chikage’s motivations in lettering! 😄

The ‘liar’ thing however is something I’d generally want to debate (or like discuss with ppl in this fandom because, let’s be real, plot talks aren’t really a thing...?). I’m assuming the organization had a lot of spying and secret missions, and that’s why Chikage (to go along with his own issue obviously) is such a ‘natural’ actor 🤔

So, I still genuinely think he still should’ve been able to tell Hisoka wasn’t lying at least about the memory!! But honestly, I could except the excuse that his judgement was clouded by the information the organization gave him/his own conflicting emotions or that Hisoka is just too blank-faced to tell most of the time 👍

Glad you agree what Chikage did was wrong as well, I mean... I feel most people do, even the cabbage simps 🥬 I don’t even hate him, like he’s an interesting character- just still find him a bit 😬, which I suppose as I said is a personal opinion on whether or not he redeems himself by motivations/ending!
