Morro is Overrated

This is transcribed from my review of Possesion. I would like to preface this with there’s no hate to Morro fans. I’m one of like 3 people in the fandom who’re not blown away by Morro. (Pun unintended) As a concept he is cool. a failed student of Master Wu coming back to antagonize the Ninja

Morro doesn’t talk to anyone. He doesn’t have meaningful conversations with the characters. Except that last scene with Wu. We never have a conversation between him and Lloyd that’s meaningful. Think about it? We never have much interaction beyond Morro going “I’m a bad guy and I’m gonna hurt you and your friends” The biggest missed opportunity is between him and Kai. The show never explored what the two share and differ. I’ve seen people say that Morro is what Kai would’ve become if he never accepted the fact he wasn’t the green ninja. The only interaction is banter. We don’t ever acknowledge their similarities. Why doesn’t Kai say anything about their similarities. I would’ve been happier if we were given a line or something. Morro has all of this personal baggage and potential that we don’t explore. There’s also a few questions I have for Morro. Why are you working for the Preeminent? What do you want? To be the Green Ninja? Why would you want to be the green ninja? Morro doesn’t get the destiny or the powers. Why do you wish destruction on Stiix? What did the Preeminent promise you? Lastly, WHY ARE YOU IN THE CURSED REALM?

I think Morro bugs me because I see him in so much fan content. There’s so many fics where he’s the main focus. it just annoys me. I mean no shame to Morro fans though, but I’m just tired from seeing the same character. (I do love movie aus of him)

Ninjago ruined Garmadon's character post hands of time. I miss the fun loving evil but also good and caring Lord/sensei and I miss the relationship between father and son and the relationship between his brother Wu.

Now Garmadon is just a monster who only cares for a plant and a fake daughter 'cough cough Harumi' more than he does his own son.

The writers should have killed off Garmadon permanently or have him under mind control by Harumi and implied that the good Garmadon could still re-emerge.

In short the writers killed Garmadon, brought back a oni masquerading in his name and ruining the image the fans have on him going forwards thanks to the influence of the movie. Hopefully the writers can fix the father-son relationship going further but I don't we're be getting the old Garmadon back. I'll just go watch season 1 - 4.

jay gives me tall and lanky (but still has some muscles cause... i mean... he's a ninja) vibes and cole shorter and stockier vibes :)

Yeah, actually, the more I think about it the more I like it. Awkwardly tall lanky Jay who doesn't know how to move his body for the win.

And short but powerful Cole works as well...

I know this may sound like i’m being a fanboy but, HOTTAKE: I don’t think any of the seasons of ninjago are really ‘BAD’ like to me all of them are decent to great imo.

Here another Hot take for all you Ninjago Nerds

The Love triangle between Wu, Misako and Garmadon was a mistake and the writers should have never included it in into the story. I know the writers likely did it for drama but it just wrong, uncomfortable and gross. Like I would hate to be in Lloyd position if I had to see my mother and uncle flirting.

If I remember it correctly Wu and Misako did a little bit of flirting in both season 2, 3 and 7. But Misako is a married women, not just a married women but married to his brother. Wu should have known better than to flirt with his brother’s wife.

Yes I know about the whole love letter thing and I know Misako is a can of a widow now but that doesn’t excuse his behavior.

In my headcanon Wu did a little bit of flirting with Misako but he soon realizes that what he was doing was wrong and stops the whole flirting thing entirely, because well that your brother’s wife and the last thing you want to do is violate your brother’s trust

All i’m saying is that Wu should have known better not only for his own sake but for Lloyd’s sake as well.

Yes. This. Everything about this.

The development of Garmadon and Lloyd’s relationship from season 1 to season 5 was amazingly executed and complex in a way that was both a complicated story and entertaining to watch. Garmadon’s sacrifice in Possession was a turning point for himself as he sacrificed himself for the greater good to face his life as someone who had been both good and evil and for Lloyd as he took his father’s place to honour him. Garmadon became a better person to make up for actions that he himself wasn’t responsible for.

And then they threw all of that away for “Garmadon” to come back evil, do evil things, and leave. Post-SoG Garmadon doesn’t feel like the same character at all. Caring for Lloyd to some extent was a fundamental part of Garmadon’s character and connected his good and evil forms, but SoG completely erases that.

At this point, I think the writers fumbled Garmadon too bad and they should just quietly forget about him. I don’t see redeeming him again working out without just being a repeat of seasons 3-5 and I don’t think Ninjago has had a place for evil Garmadon since he was initially redeemed.
