Daisies and Clover
for the @mlwritersguild february event!! <3
The first time Nino gave Marinette a valentine, they were six years old. He had wanted to give her a rose, but his mom said it wouldn’t be appropriate. Nino didn't quite understand why she said no, so he picked a small bouquet of daisies and clover in the school yard. He had been so nervous to give his gifts to her and spent the whole class party swinging his legs under his seat with anticipation. The day was a success, she fawned over the store-bought valentine and the flowers and gave him a hug. But eight years later, standing in front of his classroom door with 6 red roses, he took a deep breath. This time, he’d get it right.

Marinette couldn't understand how she ended up falling in love with her childhood best friend of all people, but here she was snuggled up on her couch with him watching a documentary on Ladybug and Chat Noir. "What do you think of it?" She heard him say, she gave a shrug "Its alright, could be better." "Too bad you didn't help out, having Ladybug herself there would have been better." Marinette blinked, confusion crossing her face as she looked up at her boyfriend. He knew. Nino knew her secret.

“H-How? How do-how did you-” she stuttered. “How did I... what?” Nino asked, giving her a confused look. “H-How do you know?” she finally finished.
“Know what?” Nino asked, looking at her funnily. “Kn-Know that... that I’m... y’know,” Marinette said, “don’t make me spell it out...”
“We were just talking about Ladybug on the doc dudette, did I say something I wasn’t supposed to?” he asked, seeming genuinely confused.
“N...No-No, you didn’t,” Marinette said, “l-let’s get back to the documentary...”
“Aight,” Nino shrugged, smiling as he always did. But still... there was that knowing look in his eyes.
He knew alright.

Can I please get platonic Nino & Marinette? Gaming? :)
“No,” Nino says, shaking his head, and Marinette already knows that she’s going to spend their entire lunch arguing with him from the way his voice is getting dangerously quiet. “You are not telling me that the music from Stardew Valley isn’t the most calming thing you’ve ever heard.”
“I didn’t say that,” Marinette counters almost immediately, squinting her eyes at him when he raises his eyebrows at her. “I said that I, personally, don’t like listening to it.”
Nino’s mouth falls open, and he stares at her almost like he was facing an alien. “You don’t like the melodies created by god herself?”
Marinette shrugs, picks at the bread in her hand, and then looks at him sheepishly. “I’m sorry, I usually listen to Jagged Stone when I’m designing. Listening to the Stardew Valley soundtrack makes me... sleepy.”
“Wow,” he responds, looking at her as if he pitied her. “I can’t believe you’re changing the conversation.”
“I am not-”
“The original conversation,” Nino interrupts her, “was that you said you mute the Stardew Valley music when you’re playing the game because you don’t like it.”
Marinette rolls her eyes as soon as he’s done speaking. “And I just told you, it makes me sleepy.”
“Marinette,” he says, and when she looks at him head on, he grabs her hand, his grip firm. She can only meet his gaze in confusion. “I am so sorry, but I have to ask this. Why do you hate yourself?”
She tries hard not to laugh as Alya finally joins them, but in the end it’s moot.

Stay as Long as You Want
Happy birthday @lahiffed ! I wrote a short lil Ninette drabble for you and it made me realise how cute they are so I’m blaming you for making me fall in love with yet another new ship. Anyways, enjoy this bit of pointless fluff! ♡
~
“Hey.” Nino smiled at Marinette as she swung through his window and collapsed face-down on his bed with a tired groan. “Tough battle?”
She whined, letting her transformation drop. “Not hard, just so long. It’s been going for hours!”
Nino gave his girlfriend a sympathetic look and got up from his desk to go sit next to her on the bed. Patting her hair, he asked, “You hungry? There’s some leftover lasagna in the fridge if you want. And there’s cookies on the desk for Tikki.”
“I’m too tired to eat.” She mumbled into his pillow.
“I’m not.” Tikki said, and flew off to settle down with her cookies in the nest Nino had made her when he first discovered Marinette‘s secret identity.
Nino lay down on his side next to Marinette. “Do you have to get home soon?”
“Maybe. It’s way too late for my parents to notice I’m gone though. Can we just stay like this for a while?” She shifted, nuzzling her face into his chest.
Nino simply wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer. “As long as you want.” He whispered.

Fluff Month: Unexpected Reveal
Today’s drabble was commissioned by the lovely @lahiffed for Nino/Marinette. Thank you for being amazing. <3
“Where’d you get that Miraculous?” Ladybug demanded, advancing on Carapace. “That doesn’t belong to you.”
“Hey, wait, hold on.” Carapace’s voice was muffled through the mask covering most of his face under the hood. He put his hands up as he stepped backwards again. He turned to eye the roof ledge he was getting much too close to. “I can explain!”
She stopped and crossed her arms. “Then explain.”
“Where’s Chat?”
“I’m losing my patience, Turtle. Tell me what you’ve done with Master Fu.”
“Nothing! I swear.” He glanced around the rooftop and lowered his voice. “I’m a distraction. I’m just out here to throw someone off his trail.”
She gave him a wary look. “You’re working with Fu?”
“Yeah. I’ve been studying with him for months but apparently something happened yesterday with the person he suspects is Hawkmoth? So he wanted me to come out as the Turtle and try to confuse him. I was supposed to tell you and Chat Noir together.”
“Chat couldn’t come out tonight.”
Carapace frowned, the fabric over his mouth shifting with the movement. “That might not be a good sign.”
Ladybug turned to look in the direction of the Agreste mansion, though she couldn’t see it through the rest of the city. “Is he in danger?”
“I...don’t know. I don’t have as many details as I would like.”
Her gaze sharpened on him when she saw him looking in the same direction. “Do you know who Chat Noir is?”
Carapace swallowed hard and nodded.
“Do you know who I am?”
He winced. “Yeah. I’m sorry.”
She narrowed her eyes. “Take that cover off your mouth.”
“I can’t.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s too obvious who I am without it.”
“The Miraculous have magic to keep anyone from figuring that out.”
Carapace shook his head. “Maybe for some people. I knew who you were long before Fu told me. I don’t want to take the chance anyone recognizes me. It wouldn’t be safe for you.”
Ladybug took a step closer and seeing that he didn’t move back, she took another and another until there was hardly a space between them. She looked up into his eyes, familiar eyes that were still golden even between the light green covering of his goggles. “Nino,” she breathed, reaching up to loosen the fabric covering his face beneath the goggles until it fell away.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he answered quietly, sadness creeping into his eyes.
“How...why...”
“I know you were trying to keep being Ladybug a secret so I didn’t want to say anything but I was constantly worrying. Master Fu approached me a few months ago and told me I could help keep you safe by working with him.”
“Nino...”
“Carapace out here,” he corrected. “It was mostly just research and reading and stuff like that. All of this is crazy interesting to me actually. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.”
“But now you’re out here.”
“Yeah. Is that...is that okay?”
She took the last step into his arms, pressing her cheek against his chest and feeling him hold her tight. “Yes, of course it’s okay.” She looked up at him. “I really want to talk about this later though.”
“That’s probably a good idea,” he nodded. He tilted his face down so he could kiss her forehead, lips brushing against her bangs. “I want to keep you safe.”
“That’s what I was trying to do for you,” she replied with a small smile. Her expression changed. “Wait, you said you know who Chat is and that it might not be good he didn’t come out tonight.”
He grimaced. “Fu suspects Gabriel.”
“Join the club,” she muttered, stepping back. “Okay, then, I’m going to need you to be my partner tonight.”
“I think I might be up for that challenge,” he winked. “I’ve got some practice, you know.” He rolled his shoulders. “I have to say I’m a little disappointed. Not once did you come try to seduce me at home when wearing your spots.”
Ladybug laughed in surprise. “Excuse me?”
“What? I’m not supposed to hope for my superhero girlfriend to find me so irresistible that she couldn’t keep herself from trying to see me as her alter ego?”
“You’re impossible.”
“You’re going to do it now, aren’t you?” he grinned.
“Not if you keep talking about it!” Ladybug flushed, loosening her yoyo. “Now let’s go check on Adrien. He sounded fine earlier when he called but now you’ve got me worried.”
“Sorry. He probably is okay. This whole thing is just stressing me out a little. You guys are kinda my favorite people and being wrapped up in this is a lot.”
She reached for his hand and gave it a quick squeeze. “We’ll figure it out. I’m glad you’re here with me.”
“Me too, Spots. Me too.”

For @seasonofthegeek for her birthday, a tiny drabble for one of your favorite ships.
“Is that my hoodie?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Marinette buried her nose in the neck of the oversized pullover to hide her grin.
“Because that really looks like my hoodie,” Nino continued, lightly tugging on one of the shoulders.  “And I don’t recall you owning anything that looks like this.”
“You must be mistaken, then.” Marinette’s hidden grin widened.
“And you’re swimming in it, Mari.  I think that’s my hoodie.” Nino was fighting back a grin of his own in his effort to seem ‘stern’.  He was failing in that endeavor.
“What are you going to do if it is?” Marinette challenged, lifting her head up enough for Nino to see her amusement. “I demand a king’s ransom for its safe return.”
Nino snorted, the corner of his mouth twitching, then gasped and held the back of his hand to his forehead.  “Oh no, however shall I afford it?  But I suppose I must ask you to name your price.”
“A hundred kisses, then.”
“Now that...” Nino said, leaning in to brush noses with his girlfriend, “I will gladly pay.”

A muffin for your birthday
Happy birthday @lahiffed I wrote you a drabble I hope you like it!~
I always love seeing everything you post, and I’m amazed by how much everyone I talk to loves you so much <3
Hope you have the best birthday !
Ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/15250659
Sweet as a muffin
They said you shouldn’t cry over spilled milk, but Nino felt that a clause had to be added, that it was justified to cry over a spilled cupcake that he’d been looking forward to all day?
The boy sighed, picking up his ruined treat, contemplating for a second if a little boot print on his crushed cupcake might only make it semi-unsanitary. He dejectedly let the cupcake fall into the trashcan, hoping to survive his math test without the magic power of delicious sugar to keep him going.
He sat down at his table, poking at the last pasta screws from his lunch, letting his head fall onto his palm. He tried remembering what he used to do on the days before Adrien was his best friend. It hadn’t even been a year, but the gorgeous blonde had already become an all-important part of the cupcake-hungry musician’s life. Enough so that when Adrien was out sick, he couldn’t even remember how he used to entertain himself at lunch.
“Something wrong?” Marinette sat down in front of him, ending his train of thought. Alya sat down next to him, the two girls smiled at him sympathetically.
Nino smiled. “Don’t laugh, but I dropped my cupcake in front of me, then managed to step on it,” he admitted sheepishly. Marinette smiled at him sweetly while Alya burst out laughing.
“He said not to laugh, Alya! And it’s not that funny, it could happen to anyone.” Marinette shot Nino a ‘don’t worry about it’ expression as she unpacked her lunch.
Alya shook her head. “Nah girl, I can’t think of anyone but you two dunderheads that would be so clumsy.” She teased.
“Hey, I rarely drop food!” Marinette interjected defensively.
Alya snorted. “How did your last phone break again? And the one before that?”
Marinette pouted in defeat.
“And before that…”
“Ok, we get it! Jeez!” Marinette chuckled, reaching over the table to Alya, putting a hand on her forehead and pushing it down gently. “Besides, I’ve gotten better lately.” She smiled.
“Mhm…” Alya mused ironically, sipping milk through a straw and looking down at Marinette’s blouse. Nino and Marinette both followed her gaze to find that she’d dipped her shirt into her lunch, staining it noticeably.
“Oh, come on…!” Marinette began wiping the brown patches from her shirt before they dried. It seemed a lost cause however and she soon sighed, eating her lunch with a growing blush, scowling a ‘don’t you say anything’ look at Alya, who returned it with a knowing ‘I don’t have to’.
Nino chuckled at the two, causing Marinette to look at him pouting. “You too? Why does everything I touch laugh at me!?” she asked in an intentionally overly dramatic way.
Nino shook his head. “I’d never laugh at you! I’m just glad someone else might be as much of a clutz as me. I’d say we could lean on one another a bit, but we’d probably end up falling over.” He chuckled, causing the two girls to laugh with him.
“Speaking of... Here!” Marinette brought a cupcake up from her bag, placing it in front of an awestruck Nino.
“You had an extra cupcake?” He looked at her with wide eyes.
She smiled at him. “Well, it’s not a cupcake, but you can have it.” Nino didn’t know what she was talking about. It was SO a cupcake. He realized she’d intentionally not answered his question.
“I can’t take your dessert! You need it as much as I do!” He protested.
Marinette shook her head. “I live in a bakery, I think I can manage to wait until school gets out to have a treat.”
Nino took the cupcake, looking up at the smiling Marinette. He was always so quick to go out of his way for others, but aside from Adrien, he couldn’t remember the last time someone did something selfless for him.
Marinette looked at him with a sweet anticipating smile. He’d never really noticed just how cute she looked. Leave it to a pair of bakers to create a girl who was beautiful and full of the sweetest sugar.
He bit into the cupcake. Chocolate chip, just like his lost one, but much less synthetic than the store-bought version. He focused on the brown treat in his hand with laser precision, making sure the shadow from his cap and the cake covered enough of his face that the beautiful girl in front of him wouldn’t notice his growing blush.

ooh ninette + coworkers-at-a-diner au
“It’s too bad you can only stumble into here by accident,” Marinette comments as she mops the floor and flips the front door's sign to Closed for their tiny diner by the highway, “You think we’ll ever see them again?”
“Probably not,” Nino replies as he wipes down the counter; he rolls his sleeves up to his forearms and starts as Marinette suddenly slips and collides into a bar stool, “you know only lost things end up here, or people misplaced in time.”
“What does that make us then?”
“I dunno,” Nino hums thoughtfully as he helps her up, his fingers lingering on the weight of her hand, the warmth of her reality, "but I guess someone’s gotta find them and send them on again.”

ML Rare Pair March 2018, Pair: Marinette x Nino, Day 20: Married/Living Together, for the wonderful @seasonofthegeek
AO3 / fanfiction.net
(Other days: 6 | 8 | 20 | 24 | 27 |)
This is also Part 4 of my Ninette series, but it can be read as a stand-alone piece. Previous parts: 1 | 2 | 3 |
‘It has started, master,’ Wayzz announced as soon as Nino and Adrien entered the Lahiffe’s apartment. Marinette was sleeping on the sofa, as comfortable as she could get with the huge nine-months-in belly.
‘What?!’ Nino whisper-yelled at him, casting a panicked look to her still figure. ‘But she’s asleep!’
‘The contractions are weak and far apart for now,’ Tikki pipped in.
‘Wait,’ Adrien raised a hand before Nino could splutter some more. ‘How do you guys know that?’
‘It’s a kwami thing,’ Wayzz shrugged.
‘Plagg?’ the blond raised a brow as Plagg flew from his pocket. ‘Why didn’t you tell me?’
‘Do I need to remind you, that Amélie didn’t know you had me when Adele was born?’ the black kwami sent him a blank look. ‘Besides, I helped with Antoine, didn’t I?’
‘Guys, before you make this into a full blow row,’ Tikki interjected, ‘may I interest you in Nino’s state?’ she pointed towards the soon-to-be-father, who blanched and was currently hyperventilating next to them.
‘Nino?’ Adrien turned to him. ‘You’re okay?’
‘I’m going to be a father!’ Nino whisper-yelled again. ‘This is really happening!’
Adrien and Wayzz exchanged worried looks.
‘Wait, you’ve been talking non stop about it for the last 8 months and you’re having a freak out NOW?’ the blond shook his head in disbelief.
‘Says the man who actually passed out the first time,’ Plagg chuckled right into his ear. ‘You think we don’t remember Marinette drove Amélie to the hospital, while Nino waited for you to come around? You barely made it in time for Adele!’ The little cat snorted at Adrien’s pout.
His chosen glared at him. ‘You little-’
‘You guys are aware I was sleeping here, right?’ Marinette’s drowsy voice came from the sofa. ‘Like this was literally the last peaceful, uninterrupted nap I would get in months, and you just had to wake me?’ she huffed turning to face them.
‘Sorry,’ Adrien and Plagg said in unison, bashfully inspecting the floor.
Nino was at his wife’s side in one giant leap. ‘How are you feeling? Are you in pain? Do you want me to take your bag?’
‘I’m fine,’ she smiled gently. ‘You need to calm down, hon. There’s still time. Maybe we could cuddle and watch something?’
Her husband gave her a horrified look. ‘You want to watch something NOW? We’re having a baby!’ he resumed his whisper-yelling. ‘Oh my god, we are having a baby!’ he flailed his hands, eyes searching widely over the room.
‘Easy, tiger,’ Adrien stepped in and put a hand on Nino’s shoulder. ‘You need to calm down or you’ll be no use to Nettie, once interesting things begin.’ He cast a glance at Marinette over his back. ‘Maybe I’ll stick around and drive you to the hospital in case he’s, you know,’ he shrugged.
‘Thanks, Ade, we’ll be fine,’ Marinette blew him a kiss. ‘Ooooh, I felt this one,’ she breathed out. ‘I guess I should start counting them and you, love, go and pack my bag.’
***
‘Nino Lahiffe,’ Marinette growled through puffs and huffs of the after-contraction relax, ‘I swear, if you look at me with those puppy eyes once more and say “I’m sorry”, I’m going to kick your sorry butt out of here!’
‘I’m sor-’ Nino started automatically and stopped himself when Marinette sent him a warning glare. Instead he chose to pout. ‘Okay, I’m going to shut up as per your wish,’ he sulked. ‘if you obviously don’t care that I care it hurts so much.’
His wife chuckled humorlessly. ‘For the love of god! Someone would think you’re hurting more than me,’ she snorted through her pants. ‘Like labour pains weren’t enough, I need to put up with your whining tooOOO- ‘ she raised a finger. ‘Hold on, here comes another one.’ Her face twisted as she steadied her breathing through the strike of pain, while Nino started trying to keep the puppy eyes and compassionate frowns to himself. He helplessly rubbed circles over her back trying not to think about how her features stiffened.
‘I still don’t understand why you’re so stubborn and won’t take an epidural,’ he commented when Marinette visibly relaxed.
Something flashed in her eyes and she motioned him closer. ‘I’ll let you onto a little secret,’ she whispered in a low voice. ‘I’m... scared of needles.’
Nino laughed. He laughed and laughed almost hysterically, until he collapsed into a cackling pile on the floor next to the water pool Marinette was kneeling in. She looked at him with a mix of disdain and amusement, glad that she finally broke through his stressed facade.
A nurse poked her head inside their room. She spotted him on the floor, still giggling like a madman. ‘Have you been playing with nitrous?’ she sent him an unimpressed look.
‘No ma'am!’ Nino choked out, clearly out of breath. I’m sor-’ he swallowed the rest of the word, with a gulp of air, his eyes flashing to Marinette for a moment. ‘It’s just that... my dear wife...,’ he wheezed, ‘...a certified designer and seamstress… is scared… of needles!’ Cue another boat of hysterical laughter that got a sincere smile from the nurse.
***
‘Nino, you’re crying,’ Marinette whispered softly.
‘I am a bit,’ he wiped the tears away before they could fall onto the pink bundle deposited in his arms. ‘I can’t help it!’ he sobbed. ‘She’s so beautiful, Nettie. She’s the most wonderful thing I’ve seen in my entire life!’
‘Stop it, or I’ll cry too!’ she warned, feeling the moisture already accumulating in the corner of her eyes.
‘Be my guest,’ he chuckled, strengthening his hold on the pink blanket. ‘Oh, I don’t think I’ll be able to give her back now.’
‘She will get hungry,’ Marinette warned. ‘You might want to give her to me then.’
‘Okay,’ he amended, ‘but until then I am not letting go!’ he warned going back to simply looking at the newborn in his arms. ‘A little bit of me, and a little bit of you. She’s a miracle.’
‘She really is,’ his wife echoed, her lip trembling.
‘So precious, and so tiny,’ Nino cooed. ‘Tininette!’
‘We are not naming her that!’

Lights
So, this was yesterday’s prompt, but I didn’t want to post it super late last night, and then I forgot about it this morning. Hopefully, you can still enjoy it.
If you happen to have any rarepair suggestions for drabbles, please shoot me an ask and I’ll see what I can do. I’d love to write your suggestions!
Ninette: Lights
“Alright, we’re almost there. Just up these steps.” Nino thrummed his fingers on the side of Marinette’s elbow as he led her through their apartment complex, the tight space forcing them to squeeze together. “Make sure you’re keeping your eyes closed, no cheating.”
Marinette squeaked in playful annoyance. “They are closed! They’ve been closed since we left the library, you lousy dork!” She tapped her foot in front of her, checking the height of the step she was about to ascend. “And I have a hand over my eyes.” She wiggled her fingers for emphasis. “I haven’t seen a thing in like 15 full minutes.”
Nino chuckled and his breath warmed the top of her ear, sending a shiver down her spine. She held a hand out in front of her in case she came too close to a wall, and she took that moment to lightly smack him with it.
“Ah, okay! I’m just making sure.”
She knocked her hip into his and he laughed, reaching out to take her hand and link their fingers together.
Marinette pulled against his hand, trying to dislodge herself. “Oh no, I do not trust you not to lead me into the wall.” Nino shook his head. “O ye of little faith.” Marinette stopped walking and stomped her foot. “You’ve done that multiple times!” “Not recently--”
“At Chloé’s party last month!” “That’s not recent.” Marinette stuck her tongue out in his general direction. “And that was a completely different situation. Now, I’m trying to cheer you up!” “See, but that scares me even more.”
Nino leaned down a pressed a kiss to her cheek, the bill of his red cap pressing into her temple and pushing up on his head, bunching his hair.
“You’re too on edge.”
Marinette let out a huff, catching her bangs in her breath and feeling them billow out against her forehead. “I wonder why.” “I promise you it’s a good surprise. I know how hard you’ve been studying this past week and we’re just gonna take a night off, that’s all I’m trying to do here.” She squeezed his hand. “If you insist.” “I do.” He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and hugged her to his side briefly before laying a gentle hand on her back and guiding her forward once again.
Marinette felt comforted by the warm presence seeping through the back of her shirt. Even though spring was coming, Paris still held a crisp chill in the air, and she was not immune to its effects. She loved how Nino always seemed to radiate heat, a perfect balance to her constantly icey body.
Once they reached the final landing, Nino placed a hand on her shoulder to stop her from walking. He fidgeted with the key in the lock, knocking into their door with his shoulder to open it. “Just a few more seconds…” his voice trailed off as he jumped into the apartment and plugged in his surprise. “Okay, get ready. Are you ready?” Marinette giggled “Nino--” “In three...two...one...open!” Marinette’s eyes popped open, eyelashes fluttering as her pupils resized and she tried to focus on the scene in front of her. The ceiling of their apartment was covered in vibrant rainbow fairy lights, bright and colorful against the dark backdrop. They ran up the walls like ivy and criss-crossed throughout the room, intermittently dipping down low enough Marinette was sure they would take Nino’s hat right off his head if he walked beneath them.
“Babe...you know it’s March, right?” she tried to tease, but her breath hitched, betraying her true emotions. Nino just smiled. “Christmas lights know no off season.”
She stepped into the room silently, breath held, eyes darting. It was gorgeous. The lights cast the whole room in a pinkish glow, spreading warmth and soft light into every nook and cranny of their tiny apartment.
She followed the lights into their kitchen, pointing to where the strings of lights were tucked into their top row cabinets and laughing when Nino sheepishly admitted he ran out of tacks and had to get creative in order to keep them off the ground.
She wandered around the space, eventually making it to their bedroom door, decorated in a small set of lights in the shape of a heart.
She pulled on Nino’s hand, tugging him to her and buried her face in his shoulder.
“It’s beautiful, Nino.” She tried not to sniffle. “I love it so much, thank you.” She pressed kisses into his shirt, slowly moving up to his neck. He rubbed a hand along her arm soothingly. “I’m so glad. I was nervous you’d think it’s too cheesy.” “It’s just cheesy enough,” she said into his collarbone.
They stood wrapped in each other, slightly swaying as they basked in the warm glow of the lights. Fingers lightly traced circles onto clothing and breath tickled patches of uncovered skin.
“I’m gonna go make some tea,” Nino said quietly, trying not to interrupt the moment. “How about you get into your comfy pajamas and we’ll snuggle in bed for a little while? I’ll even pull out our favorite comforter.” “Now you’re just spoiling me.” He gave her a quick kiss on the nose. “Always.” Nino turned to flick on the lights in their bedroom so that she could more easily find her clothes but was stopped by a cool hand on his arm.
“No!” Marinette cried. “We’re never turning the real lights on again.”
“Babe, we’re gonna have to eventually--” “Nope, never again.” “We can’t just leave them up all year ‘round, for the rest of our lives.” Marinette raised an eyebrow. “Oh, no?” “What about when we move out of here?” “Oh, yeah, I’ve made the executive decision that we can never move from this apartment.”
Nino launched himself at her, picking her up and twirling her around. “Oh no! What have I done!” Her legs flew out around them and skirt billowed as she spun. “I’ve created a monster!” Marinette’s squeals of glee encouraged him and he threw himself backwards into their bed, tucking her protectively on top of him. “What am I going to do with my monster fiancée? What will my parents think!”
“They’ll think you’re full of it--which you are, I might add,” Marinette said fondly, bright eyes twinkling down at him. She lowered her head and kissed him tenderly, pulling his hat off his head and throwing it onto their bedside table. She shimmied down his body and nuzzled her head into the side of his neck.
Nino speared his fingers through her loose locks and hummed lightly to himself, wrapping an arm around her waist in a loose hug.
They stayed tangled together for several minutes, breath syncing and slowing, and eyes growing heavy.
Just as Nino was on the cusp of sleep, he felt the body on top of him adjust so that her breath could be felt on his ear and her hand curled around the wisps of hair tickling the nape of his neck.
“So...how about that tea?”

Prompt
Person A: "Darling Please!"
*nondescript/no noises from Person B*
Person A: "Don't be like this! Wait, no no no don't-! Seriously?!? This is how you repay me after I cared for you! You know what that's it!"
Person C (eavesdropping): "oh shit. Person A has gone crazy! What do I do?!?"
My take under the cut.
Note: nothing is as it seems ;->
Surprises
“Darling please!”
Nino had never heard Marinette so desperate and exasperated all at once. Honestly he was not expecting this at all. He was going to surprise her, as you do when you’ve known someone for more than 20 years and haven’t seen them for the past 5 years because of university and then work.
Yet here he stood, in the middle of her quiet apartment building’s hallway, frozen.
“Don’t be like this!” Her voice was so frustrated and filled with other emotions he couldn’t really decipher without seeing her face.
There was a pause, one in which he really wondered if he should be barging in there and giving her support or running for the hills and pretending to know nothing. Friends did that when they’re heartbroken, they pushed back their questions so the other could heal.
“Wait, no no no don’t-!”
A horrible crash sound was heard. Nino could only assume it was a glass. God, he hopes it was a glass and not some vase, or a paining, or that super fancy glass table-
He finally spurned himself into action, fueled by the gruesome and grim thoughts running rampant in his mind. He grabbed the key from behind the welcome sign hung on her door and let himself in.
The room before him was in chaos, clothes strewn all over the couch all coming from the suitcase that lay overturned at its base. At the center of the room was Marinette in her pajamas with her hands on her hips in full on wrath mode, completely oblivious to her surprised surprise-guest.
“Seriously?! This is how you repay me after I cared for you! You know what, that’s it no more Nice Mommy for you mister!”
As Nino continued to gape it sunk in that there was not in fact another person that Marinette was screaming at, no it was a cat.
He watched, dumbfounded as she bent down at picked the cat- no it was a kitten too small to be a cat- and hauled it out of the living room. All the while she scolded the rascal, chattering loudly and huffing every now and then.
When did she get a cat?
A few moments later there was another scream that burst through the silence of the hallway. But this time there was no mistaking the happiness in the blackette’s tone.
Fun fact: I was inspired by a dialogue between a character and their cat named darling from a fic... now imagine someone bursting in expecting to pull two lovers apart before they kill each other and it's just... A person and their cat. The ridiculousness! Obviously the prompt itself is most likely to be interpreted as intense and serious but i thought the dual use was funny.
I’m curious if anyone actually laughed at this. Its ridiculous but i don’t think it would make me laugh...

ninette+ "you read my diary?!"
Marinette’s gasp was so sharp it cut into Nino’s back like a knife, the boy instantly jumping and starting to fumble the light pink book in his hands. With a loud crash the box he had taken it from fell to the ground and he was stood facing Marinette’s horrified expression.
“I- I-” he tried to start, closing the book and holding it to his chest, every cell of his body on fire. He was so freaking caught out and confused but man this explained a LOT OF STUFF and-
“You read my diary!?”
He hated it, how betrayed she sounded, and now that he knew what was in there he totally knew why. It was his fault, it was his own fault for being so freaking stupid and lame and irrational and scared over nothing!
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry Marinette I’m a- i’m such a jerk, I- seriously I just-,” he faltered again when she charged forward to rip it from him, but when he saw something almost like tears in her eyes the fountain broke, and he just started babbling.
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry I just- I was talking to Alya and I worry Marinette I worry all the time, and i’m stupid and pathetic but you’re just so- you’re so perfect Mari! And I love you so much and you say it all the time and you always tell me you care about me and I know thats true I know it is, but my brain just FREAKS OUT Marinette. And I was waiting for you in here and the box was open and I knew it was your diary and I just wanted to see what you had said and see what you said when I wasn’t around and what you really thought and- and honestly the superhero thing was just kind of an unexpected other thing that was not what I was looking for but in retrospect it totally makes sense and i’m really proud of-”
“Nino-” she stopped him, and he bit his tongue as he felt the full weight of her stare. It was so heavy and her eyes were a steely kind of ice-blue as she glued him to his spot. She didn’t look betrayed, but she did look… well.
If he had to define it he’d probably say ‘incredulous’.
“You looked in my diary to see if I liked you?!”
Nino didn’t say anything, he just grinned weakly at her as her disbelief blew over into a tirade.
“WE’VE BEEN DATING FOR A YEAR AND A HALF!!!”

Dear friend, I would like to request “I can’t imagine that this is what we were supposed to do. It seems too easy.” with my lovely Ninette, pretty please!
Here you go! I tried to write it as sweet as I could.
This is from the awesome seasonofthegeek’s (lookey it’s her asking) prompt list here. Feel free to send me a prompt and a pairing.
“I can’t imagine that this is what we were supposed to do.It seems too easy,” Nino said suspiciously, and loudly.
Marinette put a finger on his lips and shushed him. “Do youwant us to get caught?”
“Thts wht I ws worrid abot,” he said, words muffled by herfinger.
She rolled her eyes and pulled her finger back, making aface when she noticed it was slightly wet. “bleh,” she said as she quicklywiped it off on her jeans.
“Why do we need to do this anyway?” he asked quietly.
“You’ll see,” she shot him a grin as they finally made itdown the stairwell.
“So, we snuck past your crazy akumatized parents. What now?”
“Now we go to the park,” she said decisively. She quicklygrabbed his hand and started pulling him along.
“You’re lucky you’re so cute,” he grumbled as he reluctantlylet her.
She turned and glanced at him, a small smirk on her lips. “Iknow.”
He blushed slightly and was thankful that the park was soclose. He didn’t want to have to deal with her cute smirk any longer than hehad to.
“Now, I just need you to stand here for a minute and closeyour eyes,” she said calmly.
He stared at her for a moment before sighing. “Okay,” hesaid, closing his eyes. “Now what?”
He frowned when she didn’t immediately respond. She stillhad her hand grasping around his so he knew she hadn’t left. “Mari-?” asoftness pressed against his lips and for a moment he thought it was her fingeragain before dismissing it. He wondered if he had gone completely insane, consideringMarinette was definitely kissing him.
He panicked a bit when she started pulling back. He had beenso busy wondering what was happening he’d forgotten to kiss back! He rectifiedthat by pressing forward and awkwardly kissing her back. Since his eyes wereclosed he gave himself extra points for not bonking his nose into hers.
Even with the awkwardness it was sweet and wonderful, because that’s what Marinette was. He sighed as she pulled back, her breathshort and soft.
“You can open your eyes,” she murmured shyly.
For some reason the first thing he said was: “So, why didyou kiss me?” Instead of the far better: “That was amazing. When can thathappen again? Please tell me that is happening again.”
At least her hand still felt warm around his.
“I needed to make us immune,” she rushed out, blushingterribly. “You saw what the akuma was doing earlier! Kissing breaks spells!”
“How does that make sense?” He asked slowly, confused.
“Don’t question it!” She squeaked.
Things went silent for a second and he could see her startto fidget. “Hey, dude.” She looked up at him. “Do you want to go on a date onFriday?”
She gaped at him before nodding excitedly. “I yes would! Imean, yes would I!” She shook her head in frustration.
He laughed softly and she looked up at him with an embarrassedblush. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
She grinned before slowly turning to a frown. “Hey, um, Ithink you’d be safer at your house. I’m going to go to Alya’s to hide out untilthis blows over.”
“That’s cool…” he smiled. “See you Friday?”
She nodded excitedly. “It’s a date!”
He waved her goodbye and started towards home. He sighedfondly. “I wonder when she’ll realize how bad those excuses are,” He chuckled.

22 with Ninette? :^)
22. muffled, through the other side of the door; accepting prompts
The door slams in her face, the winter wind biting her and the lock clicks.
Marinette stares at the door in disbelief before giggling to herself. Nino just told her he loves her and she feels like she can fly!
She pounds on the blue wood. “Nino! You can’t lock me out of my own house! You don’t even live here!”
Though quieter, she hears him groan. “No, babe. I can’t come out. Go to Alya’s or something. I’m gonna die here.”
“In my apartment?”
She gets no reply.
Marinette brings her hands to her face to conceal her grin. “Well, don’t you want to hear my reply?”
Seconds tick with silence.
“Nino! Babe! Open up my door!”
The metal turns and Nino cracks the door slightly. “There’s a reply?”
Marinette rolls her eyes and shoulders her way into the doorway. Throwing her arms over his shoulders, she gives him a quick peck.
“Of course there is! I love you too, silly!”
Nino blinks. “Oh.”
Marinette giggles again, using her foot to shut the door behind them. “Oh is right mister,” she teases. “Now, love me!”
Nino smiles, bringing her in for a kiss, his words ghosting her lips. “Loving you right up.”

Ninette Week, Day 2: Text Messages
Days 1, 2:
Marinette: I can’t sleep
Nino rolled onto his back and held his new phone over his chest. He and Marinette had agreed to enroll in a mobile service plan together with their first paychecks from their new jobs so they had an easier way to communicate than making the trip down the block each time they wanted to talk.
Nino: Something happen or just not tired?
He watched the typing bubbles come up and then disappear again. Something else then. After a few moments they reappeared and were quickly followed by a message.
Marinette: Homesick, I think
He and Marinette landed in Bausave thirty-nine days ago. Gerald had helped them get set up in tiny studio apartments in what appeared to be the lower class part of town from what Nino could gather. Marinette had been hired at a grocery store bakery and he found work at a small family-owned restaurant.
Nino: Do you want me to come over?
He frowned at the screen. Maybe he shouldn’t have sent that. It wasn’t that he wasn’t willing to go over if she needed him to because he had a few times now but…
He turned on his side and reached for his old phone on his nightstand, dropping the new one in its place. It was little more than a brick as far as functionality was concerned in this dimension but he’d had his charger in his backpack, which made the trip through the portal when they lost their transformations so at least he could keep it powered. He pulled up his photos and scrolled through the pictures of Alya. He missed her. He missed her voice and her laugh and the way she made everything around her come to life just through the sheer force of her personality.
Falling in love with Alya had been easy and wonderful and amazing. She pushed him to grow as a person and become better. And in the late hour in the darkness of his room, Nino let himself admit that he might not ever see her again, the small admission a tight ball in his stomach. It had been over a month now and there was no indication that they were going home.
Marinette adamantly demanded they talk to all of the others who had come through the portal before them. She and Nino spent the first few days of their new lives going from place to place and gathering testimonials. They went to the field they were found in and left letters for Alya and Adrien, keeping them anchored in a pile of rocks so the wind couldn’t claim them. He’d watched the hope and determination in Marinette’s eyes drain little by little as each person told them the same thing.
There was no way back.
There were other places to travel in this dimension, a whole world beyond Bausave but even the ones who had left for a while came back, claiming the city felt the most like home. Maybe it was the portal or maybe it wasn’t. There was no way to know.
Nino had no doubt that Alya and Adrien would work on a way to bring them back. He thought of the engagement ring Adrien had been so proud to show him only a few days before the akuma battle. He wanted help planning a big engagement scavenger hunt and inviting their friends to be a part of it. It was just the kind of thing Marinette would’ve loved. It all felt so long ago now.
He scrolled to a picture of him and Alya and remembered that Trixx and Wayzz were there too even though they didn’t appear on the screen. He wondered if somehow Wayzz was still back home with Alya. Maybe he would be able to help her figure out what happened. He hoped he was still there. Nino rubbed at the scarred skin of his wrist. It was too depressing to think of other possibilities.
He came to a picture of their group together. Nino had one arm around Alya’s waist and the other across Marinette’s shoulders with Adrien on her other side. It was from years before, brought over from his old phone and dumped into the newer photo album. They were all so young. He wasn’t sure Marinette and Adrien had even been dating at that point. Probably not if the blush across her cheeks was any indication. It hadn’t been long before that then that he was the one blushing because of her.
Nino quickly banished that train of thought before it had time to gain any traction. Those feelings were from years ago; they didn’t mean anything now. Alya and Adrien would find a way to bring them back home. They just needed to be patient.
He jumped a little when his other phone buzzed against the nightstand. He switched them out again and squinted against the brighter screen.
Marinette: Can I come over there? ______________________________
There was a crisp bite to the air and Nino wondered if the season was beginning to change. In Paris, it would’ve been hot for at least another month but as the night breeze brushed against the bare skin of his arms, he realized that might not be the case here. He caught sight of Marinette a few steps from her building. She was hugging herself as she walked and her expression didn’t change when she saw him.
“Getting cooler,” he said in greeting, falling into step beside her to finish the short trek to his apartment. “Almost feels like fall.”
“You didn’t need to meet me. It’s a short walk.”
Nino shrugged. “I don’t like the thought of you being out here this late by yourself.”
Marinette nodded thoughtfully. “Thank you then.”
He ducked his head and held the door to his building open for her.
“And you’re right, I think it is getting cooler.” Marinette waited for him to come inside and followed him up the stairs. “I guess we need to think of buying a jacket and some long sleeve shirts since we’re not sure how long it’ll be until we go home.”
“Yeah.”
“The bus runs to the mall on Wednesdays, I think. Maybe we could go then?”
“I think I have to work.” Nino unlocked his apartment door and they went inside.
“Oh, okay.”
“But, uh, I could see if Steven is willing to switch days with me if you’ve already got Wednesday off. It’d be nice to have a day at the mall,” he added quickly, unable to take the disappointment she was trying so hard to keep out of her tone.
Marinette gave him a tentative smile. “Sure, if it isn’t too much trouble.”
“For you, Mari? Of course not,” he grinned, flopping down on his secondhand couch and grabbing the remote. “What should we watch tonight?”
She took the other end of the couch. “Let’s see if that cooking show is on where they have to wear ridiculous costumes. I couldn’t stop laughing during the western one.”
“Ridiculous cooking show it is.” Nino flipped through channels until he found the right one. “You know, I think I might actually like this more. Back home, there are way too many channels. You always know what you’re going to find here.”
“I’m sure it gets old after a while.” Marinette curled up and rested her head on the arm of the couch. “But maybe not.”
“You never know.”
They sat in silence for almost an hour as the small television played before them and the night wore on.
“Did you know they don’t have strawberries here?” Marinette asked, voice soft. “I was working on an order and mentioned that strawberries would be a nice addition to the cake and Daphne had no idea what a strawberry is. They just don’t exist here.”
“That’s really weird.”
“I know. I really miss strawberries.”
Nino didn’t feel the need to tell her that strawberries weren’t really what she missed. He really missed strawberries too. ______________________________
“I should go,” Marinette yawned. She rubbed at her eyes and Nino saw black smudges under them when she lowered her hands. It was inexplicably adorable.
“Just take my bed,” he suggested. “The sun will be up soon anyway. Sleep for a few hours and then you can go home.”
“It’s not a long walk,” she argued tiredly but didn’t move towards the door.
“Stop being stubborn.” Nino’s words were clipped by his own yawn and he ushered her to his bed. “We stayed up too late.”
“Stupid cooking show with its captivating gimmicks,” Marinette muttered, looking at his rumpled sheets. “Are you sure?”
“Positive,” he nodded, already shuffling to the couch. “Night, Marinette.”
“Morning, Nino,” she replied, crawling into his sheets and promptly falling asleep. ______________________________
Marinette was gone when Nino woke up to his phone alarm. He grimaced as he stretched. The couch was too short for him to sleep on and his neck and back would pay the price today.
A note was scrawled on the back of a take-out menu on his counter.
Thanks for letting me stay last night. It really helped. I hope you have a great day. Let me know about Wednesday. I’ll run by the field to check the letters today before work.
- Marinette
PS: You need a notepad so I don’t have to find a menu to write on every time.
PSS: I just realized I could’ve texted you instead of searching for something to write on for like 10 minutes and now I feel dumb.
Nino grinned and made his way to the shower, feeling lighter than he had since they’d arrived. He turned on the radio and hummed along to the song that was already becoming a familiar part of his routine. He stared at his reflection and the stubble that was coming in along his jaw. Pursing his lips, he lathered up shaving cream and worked on cleaning up the edges, leaving most of the stubble in place. He’d never let his facial hair grow before but this seemed as good a time as any to start.
With a spring in his step, Nino dressed and left his apartment, humming under his breath as he made his way down the street to work. ______________________________
Marinette couldn’t squash the nervous feeling as she walked down the street towards Nino’s restaurant with a small box in tow. She was on her break and only had fifteen more minutes to get back behind the counter of the bakery so she really needed to hurry. There was nothing wrong with bringing Nino a piece of cake to thank him for being a good friend through everything. It was a perfectly fine gesture. There was no reason to feel guilty about it.
She shifted the small box and briefly contemplated turning around and going back to the bakery. A roll of thunder rumbled above her and she began to hurry towards the restaurant. If it was going to rain on Nino’s walk home, he definitely deserved the slice of double chocolate cake she’d made for him.
Marinette ducked into the restaurant and felt eyes on her. The community was small enough that she was beginning to get used to hearing the murmured voices in her presence. People seemed nice enough about it at least, even though some were hesitant to make contact. She spotted Nino cleaning a table towards the back and quickly made her way to him.
“Hi.”
Nino looked up in a surprise, a genuine smile spreading across his lips. “Hi. What’s going on?”
She held out the box. “Thank you for last night,” she said, keeping her voice low. “It’s double chocolate. It has more of a rich taste than sweet so I think you’ll really like it.”
He took the box carefully from her hands. “You didn’t need to do this. You know I’m just as happy you’re here with me.”
Marinette wasn’t sure how to respond so she just nodded and glanced back toward the door, catching the eyes of several diners watching their exchange. “I need to get back to work but I just wanted to drop that off.”
“Thanks, I really appreciate it, Mari.”
“Sure,” she replied awkwardly. “Well, um, I’ll see you later, okay?” She stepped back and started towards the door, tripping over a table leg and flailing for a moment before she righted herself again. She squeezed her eyes shut, face dark red, and waved again before hurrying out of the restaurant.
“She’s cute,” Steven grinned on his way to the kitchen. “Is she single?”
Nino watched Marinette rush past the windows and couldn’t identify the feeling in his chest. “Not even a little bit, dude.”
Buy me a cherry coke?
