Seminar on Second Day of IFFI Brought New Ideas on Table

Noida: The second day of IFFI- Irish Film Festival of India saw the deep discussions on different subjects related to creative arts including the respective films shown during the festival and history of Irish Film Industry by the dignities present on the occasion.
We are pleased to sanction a radio program on Radio Noida, and another program on MSTV on monthly basis for full one year which will not only highlight but will also promote relations between the two countries India & Ireland. We are also starting the preparation for the next edition of Irish Film Festival of India,” said Sandeep Marwah President of Marwah Studios.
The Irish film industry has grown somewhat in recent years thanks partly to the promotion of the sector by Screen Ireland and the introduction of heavy tax breaks. Why No Outcry from BJP or TV Anchors When I Was Attacked, Asks This Hindu Sadhu
New Delhi: The recent mob lynching incident of Palghar led to a massive outcry on television and social media, particularly from Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, Hindutva activists and others associated with right-leaning ideologies. Their response has essentially revolved around the fact that two of three men killed were sadhus affiliated with an akhara in Varanasi. This fact was used by the BJP and a section of television anchors to communalise the incident, even though the attackers were adivasis – considered Hindus by the Sangh parivar – and there was not a single Muslim or Christian among those the police arrested. The two sadhus, who bear the name ‘Giri’, were initially claimed by Gosavi nomadic tribal leaders as members of their community but Dainik Bhaskar has reported from Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh that the older sadhu was the son of a Brahmin named Chintamani Tiwari. The Palghar police told The Wire they have no information about the identity of the deceased other than their names. In July 2018, a horrific lynching incident of Gosavi tribals took place in Dhule, Maharashtra. But since the state was ruled by a BJP chief minister at the time, the Hindutva lobby did not make it a big issue. But now that a Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP coalition is ruling the state, the Palghar incident has been given not just a political colour but communal overtones too. On Wednesday, another saffron-robed person who was brutally attacked by a mob in Jharkhand in July 2018 – Swami Agnivesh – released a video condemning the Palghar murders. He also drew attention to the system’s failure to punish those who had lynched Muslims like Akhlaq, Pehlu Khan and Junaid and then spoke about his own experience at the hands of a mob. Agnivesh was badly beaten in a mob attack in Pakur, Jharkhand. The FIR registered by the local police identified eight of his attackers – all of whom were affiliated with the BJP, RSS and the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), a youth group affiliated to the BJP. Speaking to The Wire on Thursday Agnivesh said that even though the attackers were identified, the then Jharkhand government—led by Raghubar Das of the BJP — dragged its feet. A month later, in August 2018, Agnivesh was again assaulted in public, allegedly by BJP workers, this time in Delhi near the BJP headquarters where he was headed to pay his respects to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In September 2018, he asked the Supreme Court to club both cases of assault and hand the probe over to the Central Bureau of Investigation but a bench headed by Justice S.A. Bobde, now chief justice of India, refused to intervene. Agnivesh, who is 81-years-old, has been facing severe health issues since the attack. The attack, he says, has left him battered, and has led to serious health complications, including a serious liver ailment. “What happened in Palghar is condemnable. But the communal forces that tried to flare up the incident and give an entirely new twist to it by introducing the involvement of Muslims or Christian missionary groups needs to be condemned too,” he said in his video message. Agnivesh also pointed to the cases of lynching of Muslims and those from the lower castes that were orchestrated in the name of “gourakhsa” by the highly violent cow vigilante groups. “Since the BJP and other right-wing activists are making so much noise. They should also answer why the killers of Akhlaq are not punished? Why has there been no justice in Junaid’s mob lynching case or in Pehlu Khan or Rizwan’s murder cases?” he asks.

Screenshot of video that circulated on social media of Swami Agnivesh being attacked in Pakur, Jharkhand, in July 2018. Although the then CM of Jharkhand Das had ordered an inquiry in the case of attack on Agnivesh, the investigation never moved ahead. The police registered a FIR against eight BJYM activists, including its district president, and a special investigation team was formed to probe the incident. Das had announced that the incident would be probed by the Santhal Pargana DIG and divisional commissioner. But the case has since been in cold storage, Agnivesh says. Agnivesh had visited Pakur on July 17, 2018, to attend a programme concerning the Paharia tribe at the Littipara stadium. Just when he was leaving his hotel, a group of protesters began shouting slogans against him. The crowd soon got close to Agnivesh and some of them then assaulted him. He fell to the ground, his clothes were ripped and his turban pulled off. That incident was filmed and videos of the incident circulated on several social media platforms. Agnivesh says no one bothered to support him although he too was in saffron robes. “I could have been killed in that attack… The prime minister did not feel compelled to condemn the act and till date no police or state government has bothered to investigate the matter,” he said. “No one can claim I was smuggling cows or was involved in slaughtering a cow. I was still attacked. Why did that happen?” The assault on Agnivesh was reported by one of the channels that has made a campaign out of the Palghar incident, Republic TV, but it added the text “Maoist sympathiser” on its screen to describe the swami and called the attackers a “fringe group” when they were in fact all linked to the BJP in one way or the other. Its reporter also said that one of the reasons for the attack could have been the mob’s concerns that Agnivesh was involved with “Christian missionaries”. It is not known if the channel’s editor, Arnab Goswami, had organised any prime time panel discussion on this 2018 attack on a Hindu sadhu. A YouTube search drew a blank. In the Palghar incident of April 16, three persons—of which two were dressed in saffron robe—were murdered after being mistaken for “child abductors” and “thieves” by the local tribal community. The deceased persons have been identified as 70-year-old Kalpvrush Giri and 35-year-old Sushil Giri, both affiliated to one ‘Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhaara’ in Varanasi. Their driver, Nilesh Telgade, was killed too in the attack. In all, 110 persons, including nine juveniles, have been taken into custody and state home minister Anil Deshmukh decided to make all the names public in a desperate attempt to bust the BJP’s claim that it was a communal attack involving Muslims or Christians. On April 22, Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami was driving home in his motor car when he two motor-cycle borne men attempted to attack him. The accused have been identified as Prateek Mishra and Arun Borade, both office bearers of the Youth Congress in the Sion-Koliwada Assembly constituency. Mishra is the general secretary of the Sion-Koliwada Youth Congress and Borade is the president. In a TV show earlier that day, Goswami had said that the Palghar murders were committed at the behest of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, whom he described as an “Italian” who had got “Hindu holy men killed: “…That Italian Sonia Gandhi, who has come from Rome…she is silent today, it seems to me, that in her heart she must be delighted…she is happy that these holy men were killed in a state where she runs the government. She will send a report…I am saying this…she will send a report to Italy…I am saying this…(in the state) where I have made the government, I am getting Hindu holy men killed…and she will be applauded there (in Italy)…wonderful, child, wonderful, you’ve really done well, Sonia Gandhi Antonia Maino…” Goswami’s remarks are now being investigated by the Mumbai police on a complaint of hate speech filed by a Congress minister. Giri Sharma’s take on “HINDI MEDIUM”

There are films with a soul, with a conscience, with a message-
HINDI MEDIUM has it all...AND, before u decide and label it as a Boring GYAAN movie, let me add quickly that it has great ENTERTAINMENT also !!
But ONE thing which the film has, with which I as a viewer truly got impressed was COURAGE (towards the end of the film, which shows a very very rare occurrence, which only COURAGEOUS people can bring about.)
Here is one film which takes on our various myths and mentalities HEAD ON- be it the consideration of usage of correct English as the sign of CLASSINESS, or be it the fact that people in the financially lower strata of our society usually display anger and vendetta when they come to know that they have been wronged.
The use and abuse of RTE ( Right To Education) has been scanned thread bare- or should I say EXPOSED thread bare in the story- I think this is the FIRST film which takes up this issue in a detailed perspective. The warmth shown in the scenes where the leading couple stay in a lower graded residential locality is to be seen to be experienced. How these people HAVE LESS, but HELP MORE, SHARE MORE and CARE MORE, has been written and shown with a great human touch.
The writers Zeenat Lakhani and Saket Chaudhary have done a fabulous job to weave in serious issues and mix them with some really entertaining dialogues and situations. After Nilesh Tiwari ( of DANGAL), here comes one more director ( SAKET CHAUDHARY), who deserves honours and applause unlimited to take up these issues potently.
And finally, the performances- IRRFAAN ( my favourite KHAN) is a clear winner - hats off to him for taking subjects like these. As his wife, Saba Qamar does a fabulous job, looking very much a DELHI housewife, and acting superbly all thru the film. However, the REAL scene stealer with a completely author backed role is Deepak Dobriyaal - At least TWO of his scenes will stay etched in the viewer’s mind for years to come- and this in itself speaks volumes of Deepak’s performance.
A thought provoking film which sets the mind of the sensitive viewer thinking on issues like:
CAN WE DO SOMETHING TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THE RICH AND THE POOR IN OUR COUNTRY ?
DO WE NEED TO RE VAMP AND RE LAUNCH RTE ( RIGHT TO EDUCATION) IN SCHOOLS?
If u end up asking these questions to yourself after the film, then the film has hit the BULL’S EYE.

Art Exhibition by Tanisha Bakshi at IFFI at Marwah Studios

Noida: The first ever IFFI- Irish Film Festival of India was inaugurated at Marwah Studios. The hustle and bustle at the studios gave lots of energy to the festival. People specially flown from Ireland and different parts of the country were eager to enter the main hall of inauguration, not to miss the main part of festival.
Another major attraction was a colorful exhibition of paintings of Tanisha Bakshi at the new complex of Marwah Studios, where she was anxiously waiting for the formal inauguration of this great event.
The painting exhibition was inaugurated by H.E. Brendan Ward Ambassador of Ireland to India, Dr. Sandeep Marwah President of Marwah Studios, Film Maker from Ireland Siraj Zaidi, Actor & Writer Atul Tiwari, Actor & Producer Nilesh Malhotra, former Ambassador of India to Ireland Sandeep Kumar, former Secretary Government of India & Chancellor of University Stuti Kacker.
“We have always believed that cinema and other fine arts & performing arts go together. With every festival we must have an exhibition of paintings. This time we have brought the concept of Mother and Child by Tanisha Bakshi. Indian films are also popular because of the importance of mother we have been depicting on big screen. This exhibition is the representation of the same,” expressed Dr. Sandeep Marwah introducing the artist.
“Through my artworks I want to show the real and unimaginable life of the people where all they have is a fragile economic condition but a very powerful blessing and that is an ounce of love. They do not have the luxuries, but they chose to be happy with what they have. “A mother’s love is Universal. And for me, her love is my biggest Inspiration! “ added Tanisha.
The exhibition will remain open for three days of the festival. The event was supported by Indo Ireland Film and Cultural Forum, International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry and World Peace Development and Research Foundation.

First Ever Irish Film Festival of India at Marwah Studios

Noida: It is a historical day as once again we have been able to create another First ever Irish Film Festival of India along with the opening of 115th Batch of Asian Academy of Film and Television. This new IFFI in New Delhi has already created new vibes in the creative circle,” said Sandeep Marwah President of Marwah Studios at the opening of Irish Film Festival at Noida Film City.
“I am thankful to Sandeep Marwah ICMEI and Indo Ireland Film and Cultural Forum for organising first ever Irish Film Festival of India. The new chapter has begun in the friendship of India and Ireland. This must continue and we would like to make it an annual event now onwards,” said H.E. Brendan Ward Ambassador of Ireland to India in the capacity of Chief Guest of this glamorous show.
What an excellent idea to have festival of Irish Films. We had teachers from Ireland in our schools and colleges, including in churches years back. The two countries had a similar fight against a common adversary and there were many ties between the respective independence movements in the two countries. Many of the provisions of the constitution of India were drawn from their Irish counterpart, the constitution of Ireland. Cinema brings very strong cultural ties,” said Stuti Kacker former Secretary Government of India and Now Chancellor of University.
Overwhelmed with the huge turnover and house full audience Siraj Zaidi Actor Producer specially flown from Dublin said,” Dream Come Ture- I have been planning to have festival of Irish Films from last twelve years, since I started festival of Indian Films in Dublin, Ireland. I am indebted to Marwah Studios to take up this event. Best of four films are here to bring two countries together through art and culture,”.
The first IFFI festival (Irish Film Festival of India) in Noida is unexpectedly very vibrant and energetic. The films are marvellous. I have been to Ireland few times, we are very close to the culture of Ireland. We have a very long relationship with the people of Ireland,” added Atul Tiwari renowned Script writer and actor from Mumbai.
I had the pleasure to be in Ireland two three times and I have always been impressed by the films and culture of Ireland. Now this festival has opened many gates of relationships with Ireland,” expressed Nilesh Malhotra Producer, Director, actor from Mumbai.
A scholarship of AAFT Asian Academy of Film and Television was presented to Irish Ambassador H.E. Brendan Ward on this occasion. Sandeep Marwah also presented Life Membership of International Film and Television Club to the dignities. An exhibition of paintings by Tanisha Bakshi was another attraction. The event was supported by Indo Ireland Film and Cultural Forum, International Chamber of Media and Entertainment Industry and World Peace Development and Research Foundation.
