Night Swim horror movie lessons: You can't wish away your problems. Sometimes you need to accept the good things you have left because you can easily lose them. Also there's nothing wrong with being disabled. Your not less of a person if you are. Never swim in a huge pool by yourself at night!

I lose valuable braincells every time I see a horror movie praised for "subverting expectations" by killing off the pet (especially a cat). Gratuitous animal death has become such A Trope that whenever I see a pet in a horror movie I assume the poor thing is screwed until proved otherwise.

Was some horror reviewer in days yore just pissed the cat in Alien lived leading to that line being trotted out whenever a movie "innovatively" kills a cat from now until the end of time or something?

So yes we went to see the new Horror movie Night Swim and its our first movie of 2024!

Now I thought it was pretty good its pretty much a classic Haunted House movie but the house isn't actually Haunted but its the in ground pool that is haunted and of course there is a reason for that which is explained in the movie.

Your basic story is the family is moving to a new town were the mom (played by Kerry Condon) will be closer to work and she is going to school to become a teacher and the Dad (played by Wyatt Russell) was a professional Baseball player but had to quit because he is developing MS. So they are looking for a new place and none of them seem right until they find this place which has an amazing in ground pool. The Doctor has told Wyatt Russell's character that swimming is good for MS and that is one of the reasons they buy the house. So they move in and get the pool ready and everything and they are living a happy life and then things start to slowly begin to happen the kids and the wife are seeing and being bothered/attacked by some type of creature? I believe this to be the physical manifestation of the Evil that lurks in the water. but the pool is having a different effect on the Dad as it is healing his MS and when that happens as he get more and more healthy the evil in the pool begins to possess him and that is when things really start to go crazy. It hits all horror bench marks for a usual Haunted House or real Haunted anything movie being you have Stage 1 where it is the build up to stuff happening usually Stage 2 is stuff actually happening Stage 3 is Discovery this is where they find out the history/backstory/lore about the Haunted whatever Stage 4 Showdown how to stop it I feel Horror movies like these can be summed up in the quote from Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm: Oooh, ahhh, that's how it always starts. Then later there's running and screaming. but seriously though I thought it was pretty good being that the pool was the thing that was haunted it felt interesting and different some of the filming that was done in the pool and under water was really well done and the visuals for things like I don't know what to call it "the deep?" where the evil lived with in the pool it was almost like a alternate universe with all the people it had collected was cool and reminded me of something else but I can't think of it at this moment.

Now I didn't find the movie really scary but it did have like the right amount of creepiness and should make you wonder about pools from now on lol but yeah I if you want to give it a watch I would say go for it.

Night Swim has only been out for 18 days (counting Thursday night previews) and it’s already going to streaming?? Is it really that bad?

Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon star as a married couple with a problematic pool in the new horror movie Night Swim.  It's the first time the two actors have worked together, but Condon told us that Russell was an ideal co-star, especially in a genre that she says can be very demanding.

Night Swim is now playing in theaters.

Okay I would've had thoughts about Night Swim forcing its disabled character choose to be disabled to save his sons life, but that would've been WAY more empowering than fucking killing him off. What the hell?

JUST SAW NIGHT SWIM!! thoughts under the cut!!

It was a very fun to watch movie!! I was stressed out the whole time, even though it was very easy to see exactly where the movie was going. It is a little clumsy with symbolism and foreshadowing, I'll admit, but nothing egregious. I love any movie where a pre teen girl gets to get fuckin violent with a blunt object. I rly like movies that actually give you enough lore/rules about The Monster that you don't walk away confused and this did an excellent job-- gave us just enough info that everything made sense, but didn't over explain it and take away the scary. It was very clear they had all the broad strokes of what they wanted to do in the movie and kinda fumbled with the details, but it was a fun watch and I'm glad I saw it.

NIGHT SWIM (2024)

Painfully mediocre. Although i did like the idea of instead of a haunted house, it's a haunted swimming pool that's about where my appreciation for the film ended. Even in terms of paranormal horror, this film was vanilla. It didn't do anything particularly fresh or exciting, nor did it have amazing effects to make up for the overall boring storyline. While I do admit that the makeup job of the bloated corpse of the previous dead looked pretty decent, the possession makeup was not as terrifying as it should have been. I also hated the unrelatisic breath holding capabilities of Eve, where she resuces Elliot. Girl, even if you weren't being attacked by corpses, you would have drowned. In the end, it was nice to see a parents love shine through for their children enough to make the ultimate sacrifice, but even in the way this scene was done was boring. It didn't feel desperate or emotional at all. The best scene in the entire film was at the end and filled in the pool because it was the first and only smart decision in the whole movie. It was also nice to see that people in horror movies are indeed capable of making decisions that make their situation better for not only them but also for future people. As a last thought, justice needs to be bought about for cider the cat who was just minding his own business and not even that close to the pool when he was snatched. Not cool demonic pool. Not cool at all.
