Percy watched Nico approach the water’s edge cautiously, looking as if he would be burned if he tried moving any further. They had just finished sword training. Now, the lake was reflecting the colorful sunset and dark trees.

Nico huffed, turning his gaze away from Percy and towards the rippling water a few steps away. “I used to be afraid of drowning before finding out. I had friends die because of the floods in Venice.”

“I’m sorry-“

He was cut off, “Don’t be. You didn’t know.”

There was an awkward silence between the two after he said that, and Percy didn’t want to cause any more pain for one of his closest friends. Despite what Nico told him, he didn’t feel his heart hold pity for him. In actuality, he couldn’t help but see Nico as strong.

“Well, I know how to swim. Want to learn?”

Nico shook his head. “He didn’t save their lives, I don’t trust him with mine.”

It made a lot of sense, now that Percy was thinking about it deeper. “Do you trust me?” Percy asked hesitantly.

“With my life?” The response was given sarcastically, but then Nico’s expression slowly softened. He sighed and turned his head away, “Always.”

Percy grinned, taking his shirt off and kicking his shoes off. Nico took off his shoes carefully, but left everything else on. He crossed his arms, watching Percy step into the water. “Is this safe for you? You’re a son of Hades.”

“We’re not on the brink of any wars, things are pretty peaceful. I’ll be fine.” Giving him a reassuring smile, Percy continued further into the water. Once it was up to his waist, he offered Nico a hand.

Pale fingers first brushed against his palm before slipping forward to grip the hand, taking steps forward. The water receded around him, like it was as scared of him as he was of it. Percy sighed when Nico reached him and cold air hit his legs. “Nico, you have to let it go.”

Nico tilted his head, “Do I though?”

“To learn to swim? Yeah, you have to.”

After some hesitance, the water suddenly rushed back into the empty circle Nico created. He was almost knocked off his feet, but he was able to keep his balance as Nico’s hand surged from his to hold onto his arm instead.

He then led Nico further into the water, till it was up to their necks. Nico was holding onto him fully now, and Percy could feel him shaking. There was also the way he was breathing, like he was running a mile. “We know you can’t drown, if that’s any reassurance.”

Nico shook his head in a panicked fashion, “Doesn’t matter. This is still cold and...”

“Scary? I’m sure it is. You’re kicking your legs though…” Percy smiled affectionately as he gazed downwards, “Are you mimicking me?”

“Is that bad?”

“No, no it’s perfect. You’re a fast learner.” Nico looked embarrassed after that, and Percy swore he could see him blush. It took some time, but slowly Nico let him go. He started to sink a little before moving his arms as Percy was. “There you go! I knew you could do it.”

my thoughts on a few:

i don’t think sadism applies to all of them, and if it does i don’t think it’s constant. but it definitely is a trait that can come out in them at times. it’s the god in them, especially if they’re a kid of one of the more brutal gods. and i think when it does happen, in most cases, it’s when they’re inflicting pain upon their enemies. but for the demigods that aren’t good people… yeah, sadism - in all its ways - is definitely a more present trait in them than it is with humans.

the menstruation thing. i feel like this has to be true. there’s no way female demigods are dealing with periods while they’re trying to stay alive and go on quests. but then i always question how they get pregnant if they don’t menstruate. but then i always remember how they’re all born and what they’re composed of, and that logic and science doesn’t apply to them lol. (do we think there’s a special demigod birth control? or does normal stuff still work?)

and 100% yes on the abnormal physical abilities and characteristics. they can definitely be thrown around and beat up a lot more. i find myself reading the books and saying things like “how did she not just die?” and “he should be majorly concussed with every bone broken right now.” they are way more agile, way stronger, and way faster than humans. they’re just built different. literally.

i’m gonna add a couple things:

i think demigods have a tendency to be taller. i’m not saying they are all tall - there are certainly exceptions; we know hazel and leo are short - but i think the overall average height for them is taller than it is for humans. for instance, according to google, the average female height is 5’3 and the average male height is 5’7-5’8. but for demigods, i think it’s normal for female demigods to be between 5’5 and 5’8, and for males to be 6 foot or above, you know? like i think full grown piper is 5’6, annabeth 5’10, thalia 5’5-5’7, etc. i think full grown percy is like 6’2 to 6’3, jason around 6’3, frank 6’5, luke 6’1 or 6’2, will 5’11-6’0, etc. i just think they’re naturally taller.

i also definitely think demigods have a slightly non-human look to them, but i don’t think it’s necessarily because they’re all beautiful. a lot of them are, definitely, but not every one. personally, i think it’s all in their eyes. i just feel like when rick describes them, there is always a lot of emphasis on the eyes. annabeth’s are this super unique and intimidating gray and they look like storm clouds, piper’s are multiple colors and look like kaleidoscopes, etc. and i think this especially applies kids of the big 3. like thalia and jason have electric blue eyes, percy’s are a super unique and vibrant sea-green, and hazel’s are literally gold. nico is the only exception having dark brown eyes, but i think they’re still super distinguishable and have a certain wickedness to them. i just think all demigods’ eyes are very unique, intense, and vibrant. their eyes are beautiful and stunning, but also very unsettling if they’re staring at you. that’s the feature that i think makes demigods look not quite human

Jason just a lovesick puppy, Leo doesn't know how to feel about how affectionate Jason is. Especially cause it took forever for Jason to really figure out "okay yeah... this is a crush."

He just thought he just had very strong platonic feelings for Leo. The poor guy is pretty affectionate with everyone after all, so he doesn't really think much on the fact he was a bit more affectionate with Leo fdgdg

Leo figured out he had a crush on Jason not too long before the Argo II was finished, but he didn't want to ruin their friendship,especially with Piper and Jason dating at the time, and he wasn't sure about coming out either so he just pushed down his feelings.

After the giant war Leo struggles even more with burying his feelings, and he goes to Jake since he's both his brother and the only one he could talk to who didn't have some connection with Jason as well.

Jason goes to Nico first, but at some point ends up telling Piper as well. And it ends up with Nico,Will and Piper trying help this poor boy with one of his many identity crises.

Leo also ends up telling Will at some point (I hc they're best friends cause why not) and Will doesn't tell anyone but immediately is now doubley playing wingman for the two idiots.

That and helps sympathize with Leo having to deal with the obliviousness of a son of the Big 3.

Another night out and both you and Nico were a few drinks in. You both had been friends for a while and whenever the boys decided to do random outings like this, you typically found yourself in the middle of their group. “Cheers” Nico held up his shot glass, hitting it against yours gently before you both knocked the liquid back. “I love hearing you talk, you know?” You told him a small laugh leaving your lips and he rolled your eyes at you. “Don’t tease me because of my accent” he playfully bumped you.

God, you really hated him sometimes. Maybe it was the alcohol in your system making it hard for you suppress the way you felt about Nico but life was really unfair. How could you be friends with someone who was literally as gorgeous as him. He was ruining your life every single day because you couldn’t have him, not without risking your friendship.

You both were playing pool against Jack and John. There had been plenty of flirty comments here and there but they meant nothing, you knew that. But you knew you had to put some space between you two so you wouldn’t do something really dumb. Your attention had shifted, spending some time talking more to Jack. At least with Jack you didn’t have to worry about any feelings.

Nicos magnetic field was a little too strong though and you slowly found your way back over to him. The game was forgotten about temporarily as he leaned against the wall, looking at you with that gorgeous face. “Look who remembers I exist again.” He teased as his hand went to grab yours, making your heart skip a beat. This was normal from him, Nico was just one of those affectionate people but it didn’t mean anything.

“Whenever you want to go home just let me know, I’ll take you.” You nodded your head at his words, you weren’t ready quite yet but you appreciated the way he just was as a person. “Ugh, Nico stop looking at me like that.” You hated these butterflies he gave you. His hand went gently to the side of your face, his thumb brushing away some of your hair that had fallen into your eyes. “I can’t help that you’re gorgeous.” There was no doubt you were melting into his words.

He definitely was hitting on you, you didn’t doubt that for a second but it had to have been the drinks and you weren’t going to let yourself be disappointed. “You’re just drunk.” You pointed out and he shook his head at you. “I’m barely buzzed right now.” Could it be possible that Nico felt the same way as you? Maybe this wasn’t just a one sided thing. He leaned down just enough to reach your ear “I’ve been trying to get the courage to kiss you all night but with the boys around and nerves I haven’t had the chance.”

“I think I’m ready to go home now.” You told him, your stomach fluttering with those butterflies still. “And I would really like to take you up on that offer to drive me home.” A smile spread on his lips as his arm went around you. “Goodnight boys.” He waved to all the other boys, leading you out of the bar. “Also I think once we’re outside you should definitely get the courage to kiss me.”

I just hope Nico Parker will do justice with her performance as our fiery Viking Queen. Because America Ferrera gave Astrid already with her performance so much depth and personality. Her performance was fantastic and not only because Astrid is a very well written character. Just like Hiccup, she feels so real and so human. Like us she has fears, disbelief and flaws but she’s also full of Love and compassion. My first actual ask!!

ok so I love these little guys!! I don’t know what order to put these in, so apologies for how unorganized it is!

I’m going to give you general info then descriptions of each coco puff and stuff they like such as food or affection.

They feel a strong connection to people who are feeling the emotions they represent. (Grief tends to gravitate towards people who are grieving, isolation can be found with people who feel isolated, etc). If the emotion is strong enough, they can actually go inside the person. The way that works is they evaporate into a soul type thing and then their coco-puff soul goes into the person. When the person has confronted what they're feeling, the coco-puff soul will come out and they will return to their regular coco-puff form. (I know this is a weird head canon, but I think it’s a really cool power. It kind of ties into Nicos shadow travel almost??)

They are so soft!! Think kitten fur, but 100 times softer! Because of their soft fur, they’re very good for helping people relax when they’re stressed.

They all look different. They’re different shapes, sizes and shade. Their shadow fur (I don’t know what to call it lol) is all shades of black, but it changes depending on the emotions of the people they’re near. So the stronger the emotion, the darker the colour of their shadow fur. They also have one distinct feature that lets you know which coco puff it is.

They will eat literally anything. If it’s on the ground, they’ll eat it. Dead leaves? You can find Grief snacking on them 24/7. Fruit cups? Internalized Homophobia will eat not only the fruit, but also the plastic. They are literally raccoons.

they don’t really have a gender, so they’re generally referred to as ‘it’ if you’re talking about a specific one or ‘they’ if you’re talking about more than one.

they all come running when Will Sonic- Whistles like little puppies!

the older they get, the bigger they get. Cuties 🥰

The Different Coco-puffs

Isolation: basket ball sized with one big eye. In the shape of a sphere. He’s also spiky! Isolation either rolls on the ground, squishes into someone’s hood, or floats after people. Isolation is very affectionate- although it’s spikes make it hard for him to cuddle ☹️- and it lives off of strawberries and jello

Grief: grief looks like your typical ghost. More solid near the head, but slowly becomes more transparent near the “legs”. Grief has two eyes, little horns- kind of like the ones you put on your dog at Christmas- and little hands (like a T-Rex!) Grief floats after people. it’s not super affectionate- more k a lurker 👀 its favourite food is bacon (me too buddy, me too) but dead leaves are it’s chosen snack if bacon isn’t available

Jealousy: Jealousy and Isolation are twins! They look very similar, but Jealousy has little tusks and doesn’t have spikes. It also floats after people, but it also sits on people’s shoulders. Jealousy LOVES affection, and is very attached to Will specifically. It hates when Will gets affection from anyone other than Nico or itself. Jealousy loves the typical breakup foods- ice cream- ONLY cookie dough though, chips- sour cream and onion or salt and vinegar, pizza- chicken bacon ranch, and cookies- any cookie is a good cookie (yes, even oatmeal raisin).

Shame: Shame looks like a cat- long and lanky with the ears and whiskers. No back paws though, only the front ones. Shame has two cat eyes that bore into your soul. Shame often twists around people and tries to make them trip. Shames idea of affection is tripping people, scaring them, or making them dump stuff on themselves. (Shame is a little shit and tries to inflict itself on others😑✋🏻) It loves any food, but it has to be leftovers. No fresh food for some reason idk I don’t make the rules.

Sadness: Sadness is a large spider. The first time Annabeth saw Sadness, she tried to set it on fire. (All coco-puffs are fireproof. And waterproof. And everything proof. They only die when Nico dies). Sadness has two doe eyes. . It loves cuddles even more than Isolation and is often seen attached to the first person it sees when it wakes up. (Sadness is like a koala pass it on!) Sadness’ favourite food is pancakes! They’re so nostalgic and yummy! Doesn’t matter what topping is on them, Sadness will eat it.

Guilt: Guilt is just a blob. A very heavy blob. All the coco- puffs are pretty much weightless, except for guilt. When guilt is on you, you feel it. Guilt is always attached to someone, often crawling around their body. It doesn’t eat and is restless, rarely sleeping.

Internalized Homophobia: looks like a baby deer with male antlers. It HATES people and prefers staying in Nicos cabin or Wills office in the infirmary. It only eats asparagus and Brussels sprouts. Why? Because no one likes asparagus or Brussel sprouts and no one likes having Internalized Homophobia. (If you like these things, no you don’t. Liar).

the world is falling apart but excitement washes over you and in an instant, you are running to him.

bounding through poppy flowers, kicking up their bloody petals, and letting them scatter and burst into the wind.

when you collide with him, it always sends him backwards and into the flowers, your laugh exploding out of you in a noise of joy. he forgets how strong you are; you're no human. he forgets how you felt atop him like this, to wrestle with you like children again.

your smile flashes, all sharp incisors, and wicked glee.

"you're back," you get out, holding him down with all your weight.

he swallows the lump in his throat.

still, he uses his strength to push you off. you yelp, but pop back up in an instant, throwing your arms around him roughly. you turn your face into his throat and rub your cheek there, your nose. the feeling is so familiar and so foreign that he almost can't stand it.

"did you do it?" you ask, and he catches the gleam of your eye, the way your tooth flashes when you let your upper lip catch on his skin, "did you create paradise yet?"

and your voice, from forever ago, from his dreams, from his memories, murmurs, a paradise for us, for you and me and vash.

nai tries to let go of the breath caught somewhere in his chest. his voice gets weaker and weaker every time he answers, "not yet."

you sink your teeth down into his skin. affectionate. a little mean, like you always were. when you release him from your jaws, you nudge your cheek into his like an overgrown cat, "soon?" you ask, like you always do.

thunder rumbles, somewhere in the distance.

he exhales harshly and the moment he tries to hold you, you always fall away from his clutches.

"soon." he promises, to no one but the empty sky, and the livid, red flowers.

Even now, Jyugo is surprised he managed to win your heart, what with your scary demeanor and attitude

Even you can frighten him at times with that death glare of yours

But then, when it’s just you and Jyugo, you’re much softer to him, and it’s such a stark contrast to how you act around strangers

It gave Jyugo whiplash the first time he experienced your change in attitude, it absolutely shocked him how gentle you can actually be

He was nervous at first about being affectionate with you because he feared you’d be turned off by any kind of attention in that manner just because of how violent you can be

But once he knows you’re okay with it, he’ll be the ultimate cuddle bug, and only he will ever know what it’s like to hold you in his arms

Often times, you’re the one who ends up whacking people in the head for so little as looking at Jyugo the wrong way, even when Jyugo swears to you that it’s fine and not to worry about it

It’s your name, and it means something to him

You love his name too, that’s why you only call him “Nico” when you want to tell him how much you love him

He gets scared when you start your sentences with “Nico, come here” bc he never knows whether it’ll be a good talk or a bad talk

So it kinda backfired but it’s alright... most of the time

On the daily tho the nicknames are what you use more

It’s quite backwards compared to how other people think but then again this is Nico Di Angelo and you, of course you’re not like other people

He called you ‘amore’ once, just to tease you

Your face turned red and you couldn’t look at him in the eye for a whole hour

A Will Solace Character Analysis: the Underappreciated Soft Side

I've noticed many fanfictions have Will Solace OOC. So I’ve been thinking about aspects of Will’s personality fans seem to either gloss over or exaggerate. Here, this post is me doing an in-depth analysis explaining Will Solace’s canon personality in the books, and how it can sometimes differ from fanfictions. Sprinkled in this analysis are tips to fanfiction writers on how they write Will as more in-character.

There is one major aspect of Will that people seem to ignore or underemphasize. Nico best explains it when describing Will in this quote

Jason was a fighter. You could tell from the intensity of his stare, his constant alertness, the coiled-up energy in his frame. Will Solace was more like a lanky cat stretched out in sunshine. His movements were relaxed and nonthreatening, his gaze soft and far away. In his faded SURF BARBADOS T-shirt, his cutoff shorts and flip-flops, he looked about as aggressive as a demigod could get, but Nico knew he was brave under fire. During the Battle of Manhattan, Nico had seen him in action - the camp's best combat medic, risking his life to save wounded campers.

To sum it up, Will Solace is a very chill and calm character. A lot of writers make Will more irrational, impulsive, overbearing, and emotional than he actually is. Will is not the type of character to create drama unless he's, as Nico puts it, "under fire." In other words, the intense side of his personality doesn't come out unless the situation is urgent or dire.

Fans remember during the Second Giant War how he gets angry and argues with Nico over Nico's health and shadow-traveling, so many assume Will is going to be this fiery over a lot of other things regarding their relationship. For example, fanfic writers may make Will controlling or overly sensitive with Nico. However, keep in mind, Will gets heated with Nico during the Second Giant War because Nico's shadow-traveling is killing him. This is how Will describes Nico's dire state.

"Coach Hedge told me all about your shadow-travel. You can’t try that again."

"I just did try it again, Solace. I’m fine."

"No, you’re not. I’m a healer. I could feel the darkness in your hand as soon as I touched it. Even if you made it to that tent, you’d be in no shape to fight. But you wouldn’t make it. One more slip, and you won’t come back. You are not shadow-travelling. Doctor’s orders."

Will is a healer. When he touches Nico's hand, he can sense how little sleep and food Nico has been getting and how Nico's being taken over by darkness. Nico is on the verge of death and hasn't cared about his health for a long time. Nico is also stubborn about it, so Will has to be aggressive in order to save Nico's life. This aggressive behavior is not the norm for Will, but it can sometimes come out when he has to assert control in a life-or-death situation.

Will is a calming prescence. He's a diplomat. He stops violence on multiple occassions.

He's one of the few people who's able to calm Clarisse's violent rage, and he does so in a gentle manner.

Clarisse pointed her dagger at Rachel. "What about their allies, huh? Did you see that tribe of two-headed men that arrived yesterday? Or the glowing red dog-headed guys with the big poleaxes? They look pretty barbaric to me. It would’ve been nice if you’d foreseen any of that, if your Oracle power didn’t break down when we needed it most!"

Rachel’s face turned as red as her hair. "That’s hardly my fault. Something is wrong with Apollo’s gifts of prophecy. If I knew how to fix it –"

"She’s right." Will Solace, head counsellor for the Apollo cabin, put his hand gently on Clarisse’s wrist. Not many campers could’ve done that without getting stabbed, but Will had a way of defusing people’s anger. He got her to lower her dagger. "Everyone in our cabin has been affected. It’s not just Rachel."

One of the most underrated Will Solace moments is when he stops a bloody battle from happening between Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter.  

But he knew it wouldn’t do any good. After weeks of waiting, agonizing and steaming, the Greeks and Romans wanted blood. Trying to stop the battle now would be like trying to push back a flood after the dam broke.

Will Solace saved the day.

He put his fingers in his mouth and did a taxicab whistle even more horrible than the last. Several Greeks dropped their swords. A ripple went through the Roman line like the entire First Cohort was shuddering.

"DON’T BE STUPID!" Will yelled. "LOOK!"

People are so used to seeing demigods, especially male demigods, being aggressive fighters that they can't wrap their heads around a brave and strong demigod who actively tries to avoid unnecessary conflict and destruction as much as he can.

And that's Will Solace's strength: he has the ability to prevent as much harm as possible.

Will is a difficult character to write. There's a lot of dueling factors with his personality. He's calm and pacifying while also being brave and assertive. He's fun and lighthearted while also being intelligent, logical, and grounded. He's laidback while also being responsible and hardworking. He's insecure but not melodramatic. He's very caring and protective but not pushy.

Will's personality confuses Nico sometimes too.

He’d always thought of Will as easygoing and laid back. Apparently he could also be stubborn and aggravating.

The trick to writing Will is to keep in mind his default personality is a soft and lighthearted character. Writers tend to overemphasize the hard side of his personality when his default personality is actually the soft side.

Think of the relaxing, lanky cat metaphor Nico uses for him. He and Nico bicker often, and it works for Will because he rolls with everything and doesn't take things too seriously. He's able to alleviate Nico's moodiness with humor, wittiness, groundedness, and patience. Nico affectionately calls Will a "dork" because Will usually keeps things light. Interestingly enough, he's able to be lighthearted without coming across as insensitive or an airheaded goofball, the latter of which is something Nico dislikes about Percy's personality. On a related sidenote, another way writers make Will OOC is they make him too dumb or too immature. I know I mentioned to focus on Will's soft side, but be careful to avoid that too. He's a SENSIBLE, lanky cat.

The way Will keeps his composure during a stressful situation by using laughter while still being mature is expressed well in this exchange with Apollo. (Yes, Will has a lot to manage.)

It was difficult to think of this young man as my son. He was so poised, so unassuming, so free of acne. He also didn’t appear to be awestruck in my presence. In fact, the corner of his mouth had started twitching.

“Are—are you amused?” I demanded.

Will shrugged. “Well, it’s either find this funny or freak out. My dad, the god Apollo, is a fifteen-year-old—”

“Sixteen,” I corrected. “Let’s go with sixteen.”

“A sixteen-year-old mortal, lying in a cot in my cabin, and with all my healing arts—which I got from you—I still can’t figure out how to fix you.”

“There is no fixing this,” I said miserably. “I am cast out of Olympus. My fate is tied to a girl named Meg. It could not be worse!”

Will laughed, which I thought took a great deal of gall. “Meg seems cool. She’s already poked Connor Stoll in the eyes and kicked Sherman Yang in the crotch.”

The fiercer side of Will's personality comes out only when the situation calls for it; this happens sometimes when he has to be a caring family member, a responsible healer, or a warrior in a dire situation. Even when he gets more forceful, he doesn't get more forceful than he has to.

Since Will has such a balanced and lighthearted personality, what are his flaws? What are the dark sides of his personality? There are four main things that stick out.

1. He's insecure about his self-perceived lack of abilities.

"I agree," Will said. "I wish I was a better archer … I wouldn’t mind shooting my Roman relative off his high horse. Actually, I wish I could use any of my father’s gifts to stop this war." He looked down at his own hands with distaste. "Unfortunately, I’m just a healer."

2. He sometimes struggles to endure the heavy responsibilities he has as a healer and as a protector to his family.

“I got it reattached,” Will told me, his voice shaky with exhaustion. His scrubs were speckled with blood. “I need somebody to keep him stable.”

I pointed to the woods. “But—”

“I know!” Will snapped. “Don’t you think I want to be out there searching too? We’re shorthanded for healers. There’s some salve and nectar in that pack. Go!”

I was stunned by his tone. I realized he was just as concerned about Kayla and Austin as I was. The only difference: Will knew his duty. He had to heal the injured first. And he needed my help.

3. He forces himself to bottle his emotions to keep his composure.

Will laughed under his breath. “I’m terrified. But one thing you learn as head counselor: you have to keep it together for everyone else. Let’s get you on your feet."

Here's a second example.

I rested my hand on Will’s shoulder. “Don’t worry. We’ll be back by dawn.”

His mouth trembled ever so slightly. “How can you be sure?”

4. He constantly worries about his loved ones.

Nico rested his hand on Will’s shoulder. “Apollo, we were worried. Will was especially.”

In conclusion, Will Solace's personality is difficult to get correct. But don't worry, if you write Will as a laidback, witty cat in your fanfics, I guarantee he'll be more in-character than many other fanfics with Will Solace.

i'm so sure that at the beginning of their friendship, kaigaku thought nicolette was annoying bc he's him and unfortunately can't stand very many people asdfg but now traits he found annoying he admires -- like her persistence ( which translates into her refusal to give up on someone even if they've given her plenty reason to drop them like a sack of potatoes ) and how hard it is to properly deter her.

now kaigaku thinks she's annoying but in an endearing way <3 does he get all embarrassed and prickly when she wants to be verbally/physically affectionate to push his buttons? yup, but he can't say he 100% hates it! does he get mad when she endangers herself for his sake? yep, but just bc he doesn't want her to get hurt vs. feeling like she thinks he can't take care of himself!

listen i just love thinking about how far they must've come since day one of knowing each other :' )))

btw if nicolette dies, kaigaku will 100% blame himself for not being there, not being strong enough, etc. he won't care what the circumstances are -- in some way, it's gonna be his fault in his head. i don't think it's something he allows himself to think of while idle ( or at least tries not to ), but it's definitely something he worries about every time they get into a serious fight. he's always got half a mind to tell her to run away.

ALSO the infinity castle arc...... they better go into that fortress together and nicolette better be prepared to have kaigaku be on edge bc he's so so scared what might happen to her ;;;; like for the first time in a long while, whatever fear he might feel for his own life is just! not even there bc he's too busy worrying over her!

as for the affectionate touch AHHH alright i'm just soft thinking about it bc kai isn't very physically affectionate, but the fact that nico is changes that a lil! kai can't bring himself to be casually affectionate even as time goes on bc he feels so awkward, unnatural compared to nicolette; he always initiates touch bc of some larger reason, such as grounding nico after an intense fight or seeking comfort when his mistakes start to plague his mind. in those moments, he doesn't second guess it. he lays his head on her shoulder, grabs her hand, etc. and it just feels right :' )

that's another thing to note -- he always goes for small touches vs. going for a hug, and i think that's just bc he's not naturally affectionate physically, so he goes for more subtle gestures.

you know i always let myself forget that nicolette lets kaigaku feed on her to control his hunger and every time i remember i scream bc kai must feel so icky and guilty about it for the longest time : ((( especially bc at the beginning, he surely loses himself at least once, probably when he's pushed himself for too long without eating, and he gets furious with himself for hurting/almost hurting her.

i imagine that at some point, kaigaku requests that they get bottles or flasks or something bc he doesn't want to feed from nico directly if there's even a chance he could lose control. he just wants her to be safe ;;;;;

Trish

“Do you ever think about having children?” Trish suddenly asks you one day.

Well, that was unexpected. But you would be lying if you said no.

“I may have thought about it before. Once or twice,” you say. “Is this something you want?”

“Yeah,” she sits on your lap, “I do.”

You expected it to take a while, being a human and demon couple. Trish ponders it as well, wondering if Mundus created her with the ability to conceive. Surprisingly, it doesn’t take a while for Trish’s demonic nature to confirm that she’s pregnant.

Hybrids were challenging, and you both knew that. They were few in number, a rarity and considered an abomination in the Underworld. Pureblooded demons typically hunted them down for sport, for the glory of purging a “filthy bloodline.” Luckily, the crew was full of badasses so it wouldn’t be challenging to protect your child if the need arose.

Trish becomes very protective of you during her pregnancy, and the unborn baby. She wants you with her and becomes agitated and nervous when you’re gone. It's just demonic instincts, you tell yourself. Demons are very capable of love, that was painfully obvious. Demons lose their mates from battle and infighting constantly, and she didn’t want that to happen to you, her mate. You understood, and knew that feeling must be stronger due to being human.

So you make sure to be with her as much as possible, retrieving anything she needs. Her inner demon purrs with satisfaction.

Your son is born screaming his lungs out, a physical manifestation of love ignorant demons and humans refuse to believe. He’s born in Devil Trigger, which was expected, but he’s beautiful, displaying the color of mint. He reminds you of the spring.

Out of Trigger, he looks a lot like you, but has more of Trish’s facial features. And, of course, he’s born strong, just like his mother.

Nico

Nico would be the type to subtly drop hints. “Don’t you think I’d be a good momma?” “My kids would be so badass, just like me!” “Our kids would be just as beautiful or handsome as their parents, and equally badass.”

It actually goes over your head at first. You hadn’t been the type to think about starting a family anyway. The Devil May Cry crew was family enough, and you were content with that.

It was actually Nero who made you realize what Nico was hinting at.

“You and Nico planning on having kids?”

“No? Why would you think that?”

“She’s been subtly dropping hints about wanting kids for weeks now. It's kinda annoying.”

When you two are alone you ask her about it. Your relationship with Nico is rather lighthearted, friendly teasing but still affectionate. This is the most serious you’ve seen her. You know Nico would be a good mother, your main concern is yourself. Children have never been your favorite thing in the world, and children crying typically aggravated you. But with her, you’re determined to make it work.

It actually takes a while for it to happen. There was small discouragement at first, but you two are pretty stubborn people, so you’re determined to make it work.

When it finally happens, Nico sprints to you with the biggest grin on her face. She leaps into your arms, laughing, and your heart comes to a skidding halt. It finally happened.

Nero claps you on the back and congratulates you two, and the rest of the crew is pretty happy for you too.

You make sure to call her whenever you’re out, asking if she’s okay. Nico’s a strong woman, you knew that, but still. You also make sure that Nero watches out for her. It calms your anxiety.

You guys end up having a daughter. Her hair, your eyes. Seeing her hold your child was an emotional experience, and you cried when you held your daughter. Nico teases you about it, but she’s happy. You’re both very happy.

Lady

It sparked from a simple walk through the park one day. It was a simple distraction from work, but seeing couples and their kids basking in happiness sparked mutual desire.

You attempted to stay silent about it, unsure of how Lady felt about it. She’s the one who sits you down and talks about it.

You want to kiss her, touch her, hold her, but you’re unsure of what to do. You fumble over your words, red coloring your face as your hands shake. You hear Lady’s chair scrape against the floor and her lips press against yours, and a thought became reality.

Lady becomes emotional even before the pregnancy, which worries you a little. Out of this list, Lady becoming pregnant takes the longest, and she starts to worry if it's her. You have to reassure her, and tell her that all good things come to those who wait. You know it's hard waiting, but you continue to be patient for the both of you.

Secretly, you wonder if it has something to do with you. You never let her know your fears, staying strong for both of you no matter how frustrating.

You hold her hand in the bathroom, talking as you wait for the test to reveal its answer. There’s an anxious knot in both of you as you wait, but you talk with Lady to help calm her. But you can feel her shaking, and she could probably feel you shaking.

When the test comes back positive, it's a happy, exciting moment. You both cry, hold each other, laugh, kiss. Congratulations: you’re going to be parents.

The whole crew implodes in celebration. Everyone was anxious for both of you, and when it finally happens, everyone is celebrating and congratulating both of you. It made you two happy knowing your friends, people who became family were happy for you.

You get her whatever she needs, at whatever time. If it was nine or noon or three in the morning, you’ll get it. Anything for your queen.

You meet your son nine months later, mewling and crying like a kitten. He’s adorable, the perfect combination of his parents. It's a proud moment indeed.
