The Most Important Position in Football
Nowadays, there is a lot of chatter about what position is the most valuable in football. In a team sport like football there will never be a definite answer. In the past the MVP award had more diversity to other positions, whereas now it is almost a given that it will be awarded to a Quarterback. But, at the end of the day it is still a team sport and a shift at any position could possibly change the outcome of a game, season or even franchise.
Tumblr media
There is a position on each team that might actually be the most valuable that no one ever talks about. That position… is Backup Quarterback(QB2) and unfortunately, nowadays not enough attention is paid to the QB2 position. If other positions are lost they have at least 2 other people who can make up for it or they can spread the ball around to different positions. But more seasons have been ruined after the QB1 goes down than any other position. Even if it is only for a few games, seasons could still be ruined because the QB2 isn’t reliable and there is a loss of momentum or a loss in key games.
Tumblr media
Some backups have been able to overcome adversity and find ways to get their teams to where they need to be. One example is Nick Foles, who stepped in for the Eagles for the remainder of the 2017-2018 season. He was able to take the Eagles to the SuperBowl and even claim the Super Bowl MVP. Another, is Charlie Batch stepping in for the Steelers multiple times to keep playoff and Super Bowl hopes alive. Even this year the Colts rely on Gardner Minshew, while the Bengals rely on Jake Browning to keep their teams playoff hopes alive. This year also has a good example of how the QB2 can keep a team down. Players like Mitch Trubitsky who haven’t won a single game and thrown interceptions in key situations have taken the Steelers out of playoff contention while they wait for Kenny Pickett to recover from an ankle injury. These are just a few examples on how the QB2 can affect a Franchise.
Tumblr media
All in all, the QB2 might not get a lot of playing time but he sure is the most important position on any team. Should teams spend more time and money on the QB2? - Naro

As much as people love the Ravens offense
I'm in love with my Chargers in this match-up. In their first game one year ago, the Ravens offense only scored 16 points Mut 24 Coins. The Chargers were moving towards the final goal to win the game. But Antonio Gates fumbled which led to a defensive touchdown. This led to the Ravens won 22-10 to win in Los Angeles.
In general, a rematch is a win for the losing team also. The Chargers will know exactly how they will be able to beat the Ravens will try to defend their team, and they will be able to find ways to make it work this time.
As much as people love the Ravens offense, led by Lamar Jackson, they only scored 16 against the Chargers. They stopped them the very first time. The Chargers have played well on the road this year. They won the games in Pittsburgh, Seattle, and Kansas City.
It's just too high for the defending Super Bowl champions. The Eagles are hot right now, and , for some reason, they play best in these circumstances when Nick Foles is in the game. I'm sure Foles has some banged up ribs, but I expect Foles to be a good player. The Eagles possess a strong offensive line that is able to physically match up together with Bears defensive line particularly when it comes to Lane Johnson versus Khalil Mack.
Another reason that I like the Eagles to protect the run is Mitchell Trubisky, who's so up and down. The Eagles might have a poor secondary, but they can stop the run, which I'm expecting the Bears to try to establish as early as possible. I believe that the Bears triumph, but the Eagles will cover.
The Colts are more successful than the Texans. They rank eighth in the team DVOA while the Texans place 11th. Additionally, the Colts are in the top 10 in offense and defense Cheap Madden 24 Coins. The Texans are 21st and 7th in those units, respectively.

[ad_1] Veteran quarterback Nick Foles is again looking for a new team, as the 34-year-old was officially released by the Indianapolis Colts on Friday. Foles signed a two-year deal with Indy last offseason, reuniting him with head coach Frank Reich. Reich was relieved of his duties last year, and replaced with another former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator in Shane Steichen.Foles played in three games for the Colts last season with two starts (both losses). In all, he completed 25 of 42 passes for 224 yards, zero touchdowns and four interceptions. The former Super Bowl MVP has been a journeyman over the past few years. He spent 2019 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and 2020-21 with the Chicago Bears before finding himself in Indy. At this point in his career, Foles would serve as a valuable resource for a younger quarterback looking to establish himself as a legitimate starter in the league. Foles would also be an ideal emergency quarterback given his experience. Here are four potential landing spots for the 11-year veteran. With Aaron Rodgers gone, the Packers quarterback room has a combined one NFL start. Jordan Love is the man going forward, and it's worth being excited about his potential. He flashed for a moment against the Eagles last year, when he led two scoring drives in the fourth quarter while completing 6 of 9 passes for 113 yards and one touchdown.  Behind Love currently is Sean Clifford, a surprise fifth-round pick many believed the Packers reached on, and Danny Etling. Adding a veteran voice to this room is something that would not only make Love more comfortable, but maybe head coach Matt LaFleur too.The Buccaneers surprised some by avoiding the quarterback position entirely in the 2023 NFL Draft. They appear poised to move forward with Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask, but the problem is those are the only quarterbacks on roster. Head coach Todd Bowles is used to leaning on Tom Brady offensively. With Brady gone and a new offensive coordinator at the helm in Dave Canales, the Buccaneers are another team that could benefit from adding a veteran quarterback. Like the Buccaneers, the Commanders surprisingly did not take a quarterback in the draft. Sam Howell is expected to be the starter in 2023, and Ron Rivera added Jacoby Brissett this offseason with Jake Fromm rounding out the quarterback room. Something tells me Washington isn't done adding at quarterback. Maybe Foles could be back in the NFC East soon.  Philadelphia EaglesHow could we not mention the Eagles when Foles is a free agent? Philly has absolutely zero need at the position right now with Jalen Hurts, Marcus Mariota, Tanner McKee and Ian Book on roster, but this is the franchise where Foles has played his best ball, leading the Eagles to their only Super Bowl title. He's 21-11 as the starter for the Eagles in the regular season, and 8-18 everywhere else. From Tom Brady to Nick Foles
[ad_1]
7:00 AM ET
NFL NationESPN
The first wave of NFL free agency is over and several starting quarterbacks — including the one many consider the greatest of all time, Tom Brady — have landed in new cities.
Brady has moved on after 20 seasons, nine Super Bowls and six titles with the New England Patriots.
Nick Foles, who signed last offseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars, is now in Chicago…

Week 4 - Colts @ Bears
Despite this spectacular catch by Bears WR Allen Robinson, the Bears fell to the Colts in a low-scoring defensive battle, 19-11. Colts QB Philip Rivers threw a touchdown pass on their first possession and the next touchdown of the game didn't come until the 4th quarter with about 1 minute remaining.
Tumblr media
The Colts have become the NFL's #1 defense and are now 3-1 on the season as they hand the Bears their first loss.

NFL hot(ish) takes for 2020 (AFC edition)
FOOTBALL IS BACK…if you ignore high school football and college football and soccer football but we’re ignoring that! So here we go my 2020 power rankings
AFC West
4. Las Vegas Raiders- lead by everyone’s 17th favorite starting quarterback and the rest of the silver and black are in for a long year stuck in the AFC West and not making moves themselves. Just add this season to the broken dreams that pave the strip…at least y’all have hockey?
3. Denver Broncos- John Elway must have really been hoping he could make lightning strike twice and bring Aaron Rodgers to the mile high city only to be stuck with a combination of Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater to see through the season instead of you know drafting a quarterback. There is too much talent *cough cough Von Miller cough cough* for the Broncos to be a complete disaster but you guys are dangerously close to Kyle Orton/Tim Tebow territory.
2. The S̶a̶n̶ ̶D̶i̶e̶g̶o̶ Los Angeles Charges- much like everyone else I’m pretty high on the Los Angeles Chargers (of Anaheim) after seeing the team’s second half of 2020 and Justin Herbert. It’s finally looking like the rebuild will yield results but we have one last question for the team will they have more wins than fans in So-Fi this year?
1. Kansas City Chiefs- shock of all shocks the back to back AFC Champions with an MVP QB and hall of fame coach will repeat as division champions. While it should be a cake walk to their seventh straight playoff appearance (and sixth straight division title) it’ll be interesting to see if they did enough to keep pace with the other top teams in the AFC.
AFC South
4. Houston Texans- HAHAHAHAH do I really need to talk more. Everything this last off season seems to have been the incorrect move more Huston especially the whole deshaun Watson situation. At least on the bright side at least no one can claim you’re tanking.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars- the Trevor Lawrence era has officially began. Too bad it’s going to start like the Minshew/Nick Foles era ended, with lots of losses. That much is clear when they chose to pander to Florida Gators fans by hiring Urban Mayer signing Tim Tebow instead of actually improving. To the three Jags fans out there be glad the Texans are in your division.
2. Indianapolis Colts- ahhh the Colts and injuries quarterbacks can you name a better tradition? The Carson Wentz era In Indy will have to wait a good chunk of the season to get started in Ernest given the newly acquired QB will miss up to 12 weeks. There’s certainly enough talent there for the Colts to stay in wild card contention and not fall in with the other two teams listed above.
1. Tennessee Titans- I don’t think there’s anyone quite as happy to be in Nashville as Julio Jones is. After years of trying to get out of Atlanta this falcon is free and here to help a titans squad looking to capitalize on the teams back to back playoff appearances.
AFC North
4. Cincinnati Bengals- congrats bengals you’ve found your franchise savior! Now you just need to scrap him off the turf every other play. And to add insult to (hopefully not another) injury AJ Green left to the Arizona desert after a decade. There’s still a long rebuild ahead bengals.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers- WHAT? How can the team that went 11-0 to start rank third? The Steelers are a long way from being one of the NFL’s top teams and the end of last season especially the game against Buffalo showed it. This year there’s no easy schedule for the black and gold to pray on. While everyone else in their division got better at least to a small extent Pittsburgh just got older and slower.
2. Baltimore Ravens- It will be an interesting season for Lamar and the Ravens and we’ll get a good taste almost immediately as they take on Kansas City in week two. The defense is there for sure a deep playoff run the only question is can the receivers include new addition Sammy Watkins can stay healthy and productive enough for the offense to match that pace.
1. Cleveland Browns- hard to believe the browns went 1-31 not very long ago. Cleveland looks like a completely different team these days boasting what looks to be one of if not the best defenses in the league especially after adding Clowney. Making the playoffs will be the least of the browns problems the only question is how far will they go. The way this team is built I’m guessing far.
AFC East
4. New York Jets- Zach Wilson is here after some rather uneventful years with Sam Darnold at the helm, but more importantly Adam Gase is gone! You’re Free! While the Jets won’t have much to show for it this year I think mean green’s perpetual rebuild sneakily took a turn for the better. We might have to stop calling them the butt fumble in a few years.
3. New England Patriots-yeah I know it feels weird for me to put them here too, but let’s face facts the Patriots are no longer a Super Bowl caliber team. The 7-9 record last season speaks for that. Its rather unlikely that lightning will strike twice in the form of Mac Jones right away. Give it a year or two and we’ll see where you are.
2. Miami Dolphins- another AFC East team looking at a bright future without Adam Gase! Brian Flores has done a great job righting the ship of state and now the dolphins look primed to build on last season and make a playoff appearance! Unfortunately the AFC is too too heavy for you to really do much there but good job none the less!
1. Buffalo Bills- another long suffering team now enjoying great success this time with Josh Allen. The Wyoming Alum looks to lead what will be one of the NFL’s best offenses past the AFC title game and into a Super Bowl this time. Their first since 1993
Playoff time!
1. Kansas City Chiefs- I don’t think they’re leagues better than the other playoff teams but when you’re looking for your fourth straight AFC Title game appearance I’ll give you a bit of a pass.
2. Buffalo Bills- not much to say here the Bills are a talented squad who are going to be successful.
3. Tennessee Titans- the regular season may be kind of a mixed bag for the Titans when it comes to record (obviously not too bad) but I think the playoffs is where this team will come to shine.
4. Cleveland browns- four feels too low for this team but when you look at who’s above them it’s kinda hard to disagree with it.
5. San Angels Chargers- look at you Chargers fan! You’re in the playoffs maybe you can make some magic happen.
6. Miami Dolphins- after coming so close last year you can loose in the first round just like in 2016.
7. Indianapolis Colts- just like last year you get to play Buffalo first and just like last year you won’t get a second game.
All in all the AFC is really a three team race. While I think I best team in general is the Chiefs I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Tennessee represents the AFC.

Q: How much do I know about sports off the top of my head? I’m bored, so let’s find out.
NFL:
NFC West (one of the strongest divisions ever):
Seattle Seahawks. Key (and less-key) players: Russell Wilson (QB), DK Metcalf (WR), Tyler Lockett (WR), Freddie Swain (WR), Greg Olsen (TE), Colby Parkinson (TE), Damien Lewis (G), Duane Brown (T), Ethan Pocic (C, I think?), Chris Carson (RB), Rashaad Penny (RB), Travis Homer (RB), Michael Dickson (P), help what’s the kicker’s name, Jamal Adams (S), Quandre Diggs (S), Bobby Wagner (LB), KJ Wright (LB), Jordyn Brooks (LB), Poona Ford (DI), Jarran Reed (defensive... line somewhere), Shaquill Griffon (CB), Quinton Jefferson (CB), Tre Flowers (CB), Benson Mayowa (DE), Carlos Dunlap (DE), Alton Robinson (DE), Shaquem Griffon (DE), god I can’t remember the new slot corner but he’s pretty good I think. Coach: Pete Carroll. OC: Brian Schottenheimer. DC: Ken Norton, Jr. GM: John Schneider. Owner: Jody Allen. Notes: Every game is close. Used to always run, but this year always throws. Quarterback is basically magic. Defense is severely lacking. My home team, obviously.
San Francisco 49ers. Key players: Jimmy Garoppolo (QB), George Kittle (TE), many fast running backs, Raheem Mostert is one of them, Trent Williams (T), Richard Sherman (CB), Nick Bosa (DE). Coach: Kyle Shanahan. Notes: Running game scheme is a work of staggering genius. Best player is a tight end for some reason. Went to the Super Bowl last year.
Arizona Cardinals. Key players: Kyler Murray (QB), Larry Fitzgerald (WR), DeAndre Hopkins (WR), Christian Kirk (WR), Budda Baker (S), Patrick Peterson (CB). Coach: Kliff Kingsbury. Notes: Runs many wide receivers, in scheme Kingsbury got from coaching college. Used to be bad, but getting better each year. Kyler is very small.
Los Angeles Rams. Key players: Jared Goff (QB), Cooper Kupp (WR), Andrew Whitworth (T), Darrell Henderson (RB), Aaron Donald (DI), Johnny Hekker (P). Coach: Sean McVay. DC: Used to be Wade Phillips, but not anymore. Notes: Runs a lot of plays from the same formation. Coach is very smart. Made the Super Bowl two years ago. Best player is a defensive tackle, for some reason.
NFC East (the worst division in NFL history):
New York Giants. Key players: Daniel Jones (QB), Saquon Barkley (RB). Coach: Joe, uh... Douglas. GM: Dave Gettleman. Notes: Spent a huge amount of draft capital on players the numbers said weren’t worth it. Seems accurate.
Philadelphia Eagles. Key players: Carson Wentz (QB), Jalen Hurts (backup QB), literally everyone else is injured. Oh, Jason Peters (T). Coach: Doug Peterson. GM: Howie Roseman. Notes: Everyone is injured. Everyone. Went to the Super Bowl 3 years ago and won with their backup QB.
Dallas Cowboys. Key players: Dak Prescott (QB, injured), Andy Dalton (backup QB, injured), No one of note (third-string QB), Amari Cooper (WR), CeeDee Lamb (WR), Ezekiel Elliott (RB), Leighton Vander Esch (LB), Greg Zuerlein (K), I could probably name more if I tried hard enough. Coach: Mike McCarthy. GM: Jerry Jones. Owner: Also Jerry Jones. Notes: Every year they have good players and lose anyway. Paid their running back instead of their quarterback. Also, now they have no healthy quarterback.
Washington [used to have a racist name]. Key players: Dwayne Haskins (benched QB), Alex Smith (QB... whose leg does not work), Kyle Allen (QB), Terry McLaurin (WR), Chase Young (DE), Montez Sweat (DE). Coach: Ron Rivera. Owner: Dan Snyder, who is the worst human being in the NFL, and that is saying a lot. Notes: No one cares about the football, Dan Snyder should be in jail. Also, Ron Rivera has cancer and Alex Smith’s leg injury almost killed him, so those guys deserve better.
NFC North:
Detroit Lions. Key Players: Matthew Stafford (QB), um, I should remember some more. Jeff Okudah (CB). Coach: Matt Patricia. Notes: Stafford deserves better. Patricia keeps signing ex-Patriots players, and it doesn’t work, presumably because the good ones are current-Patriots-players.
Minnesota Vikings. Key players: Kirk Cousins (QB), Adam Thielen (WR), Justin Jefferson (WR), Dalvin Cook (RB), many good defensive players whose names I don’t know. Coach: Mike Zimmer. Notes: Historically a good defense and just missing a competent QB. Paid a lot for an average QB; defense sucks now for some reason. Also, runs a lot.
Chicago Bears. Key Players: Mitchell Trubisky (QB), Nick Foles (QB), Allen Robinson (WR), Khalil Mack (DE). Coach: Matt Nagy. Notes: Has been wasting great defensive performances with poor to average quarterback play since World War II.
Green Bay Packers. Key Players: Aaron Rodgers (QB), Davante Adams (WR), Allan Lazard (WR), Aaron Jones (RB), Jamaal Williams (RB), Robert Tonyan (TE), David Bakhtiari (T), Za’Darius Smith (DE), Preston Smith (DE). Coach: Matt LaFleur. GM: Brian Gutekunst. Owner: “The fans.” Notes: Has started a hall-of-famer at quarterback every season since before you were born. Winning big but the analytics say they’re getting a bit lucky lately.
NFC South:
Atlanta Falcons. Key players: Matt Ryan (QB), Julio Jones (WR), I forgot the new WR’s name but he looks legit, Todd Gurley (RB). Coach that was recently fired: Dan Quinn. Notes: Have become known for inexplicably blowing enormous leads late in games. It’s quite funny, at this point.
New Orleans Saints. Key players: Drew Brees (QB), Michael Thomas (WR), Alvin Kamara (RB), Taysom Hill (listed as backup QB but just kinda does weird shit on offense), Jameis Winston (backup QB), Cam Jordan (DE), I should remember the cornerback’s name. Coach: Sean Payton. Notes: Known for having tons of talent every year, salary cap be damned, and then losing in heartbreaking fashion in the playoffs. Brees is getting old.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Key players: Tom Brady (QB), Mike Evans (WR), Chris Godwin (WR), this one WR who can go eat shit, Rob Gronkowski (TE), Antoine Winfield Jr (S), Vita Vea (DI). Coach: Bruce Arians. Notes: Signed Tom Brady. It’s working pretty well. Defense is top-tier. The most balanced team.
god, who is the other NFC south team, uh...  hold on, lemme get back to you.
AFC North:
Baltimore Ravens
Pittsburgh Steelers
Cleveland Browns
um... Cincinnati Bengals? Maybe?
AFC East:
New York Jets
New England Patriots
Miami Dolphins
Buffalo Bills
AFC South:
Houston Texans
Jacksonville Jaguars
Tennessee Titans
uhh... Indianapolis Colts.
AFC West:
Denver Broncos
Kansas City (I think this name should be changed too, honestly)
Las Vegas Raiders
I guess this must be the Los Angeles Chargers?
Oh, so the other NFC South team is the Carolina Panthers. Of course. Key players: Teddy Bridgewater (QB), Christian McCaffrey (RB and also arguably their best receiver), Yetur Gross-Matos (DE). Coach: Matt Rhule. Notes: Rebuilding their team this year, but quietly doing pretty well, considering.
Alright, I’m gonna stop there. Didn’t even get to the other half of the NFL, let alone started to try and list NBA/MLB/NHL teams, which would have gone extremely poorly. Story for another day.
Also, uh, yeah, this is a normal amount to know about football as someone who doesn’t watch football, oooobviously...

[ad_1] Stephen Holder, ESPNMay 5, 2023, 05:16 PM ETINDIANAPOLIS -- The Colts' pivot at the quarterback position continued Friday with the release of veteran Nick Foles after one season.Foles, one of four quarterbacks on the roster, became further expendable when the Colts used the fourth overall selection in last week's NFL draft on former Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson. Also remaining on the roster are Gardner Minshew and Sam Ehlinger. The Colts endured constant quarterback upheaval last season en route to a 4-12-1 finish, with four changes made at the position between Matt Ryan, Ehlinger and Foles.Foles, who was making his second start of the season, suffered a rib injury in Week 18 and was replaced by Ehlinger. He was lured to Indianapolis last season to serve as a backup to Ryan by former Colts coach Frank Reich, with whom Foles won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles after the 2017 season.Reich was fired after nine games.Foles, 34, was entering the second year of a two-year contract. It's unclear whether he intends to pursue an opportunity with another team. He completed 25 of 42 passes for 224 yards with no touchdowns and four interceptions in his two games last season. Did the Bears Actually Change Quarterbacks?
Any reasonable Bears' fan had to be skeptical of the 3-0 start and were watching this Sunday's game just to see what the Bears really are. The answer, a team that gotten some breaks and could easily be 0-4 instead of 3-1. Head coach Matt Nagy made the QB change and got the guy he wanted, Nick Foles, but if you watched the game nothing changed. In fact, the offense looked like it did last year.
The trade for Foles will always deserve criticism because Jacksonville was not going to keep Foles and Chicago traded a 4th round pick, outbidding themselves. What would the Bears look like if they signed Cam Newton for next to nothing? The reasoning for the trade was Foles knows the offense and should be able to take the helm and be an improvement. Don't get me wrong, Foles is not an All-Pro but the Colts game showed maybe it's not just the guy under center that's the problem.
All reports from former players and professionals are Matt Nagy is extremely clever and the type of offensive coach that can elevate his team. Where is it? Was it all just smoke and mirrors that first playoff birth season? The offense looked exactly like it did last year despite the QB change and was putrid at home in an ugly game.
The Bears were 3-0 against bad teams, combined 1-11 for the season, so the quality of team on the other side was a big step up but Nagy helped the Indy defense. In the first three games Chicago rushed 85 times for 414 yards, good for 4.87 yards per carry. The rushing attack was averaging 138 yards per game but Nagy only called 16 rushes against the Colts. The team only totaled 28 yards, an awful 1.8 yards per carry, but Nagy has to be better.
Again, the Colts defense is immensely better than any other team the Bears have faced, and Tarik Cohen was lost for the season against Atlanta, but if the coach is clever he ought to be able to figure something out. Nagy's comments painted a picture of being unhappy with how the offense had to run to suit Trubisky but I'd take that over what I saw against Indy. 13 carries for the backs versus 42 pass attempts for Foles? The Bears offense isn't good enough to operate that way.
Nagy ran the pass happy offense last year to awful results and with 'his guy' apparently is going to pass, pass and pass some more. No running back is going to get in the flow of the game with ten rushes and apparently Nagy forgot David Montgomery was on the team, despite averaging over 14 rushes and two catches a game coming in. Not far off his average admittedly, but Nagy needs to realize what his team needs to win and that's not 40+ throws a game.
Can we be done with the Cordarrelle Patterson running back experiment? He has 18 rushes for 62 yards on the season and is taking carries from better players, namely Montgomery. Patterson isn't a big play back and my last memories of him will be getting stuffed on 4th down as the coach has gotten too cute trying to outsmart everyone with something that isn't working. In a league where backs can be pulled from anywhere and produce Chicago can't find someone better than Patterson as a change of pace?
The defense gave up an opening drive TD but put together it's first complete game, holding Indianapolis to 19 points despite the offense regularly putting them quickly back on the field. Nagy responded with only three points until garbage time, that should never happen. Any optimism we had as fans has found itself where it normally is for Chicago, gone and making you question why you even believed things would be different.
The running game will apparently succeed in spite of its coach in Chicago, as Nagy would rather approach 50 throws a game instead of 30 carries. I'm not saying Montgomery is a stud, but he can produce when given the chance. Instead Nagy put the ball in his journeyman QB and watched balls repeatedly hit the turf. Great coaches adjust to their players' strengths but it seems Nagy will be damned if his system doesn't work, that's what he's going to run and Chicago will only beat bad teams because of it.

Who’s down for a Super Bowl XLI rematch? This Sunday at 4:25pm EST, the Colts will take on the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in what has to be, one of the hardest games to predict this weekend. Nick Foles will make his first start of the 2020 season after tossing 3 touchdowns and 188 yards in his debut relieving the benched Mitch Trubisky. That game saw Foles lead the Bears back from a 26-10 deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Falcons and move to an impressive 3-0 start.
This wasn’t the first game that the Bears won in the fourth quarter. Slow starts have plagued the Bears in September and it seems like a borderline miracle that they stand at 3-0. In week 1, they took just 6 points into the fourth quarter and three fourth quarter TD passes, this time by Trubisky helped them overcome a 17-point deficit to the Lions. The only time the Bears put together a solid first half was against the Giants in week 2, where they hung on for dear life in the second half to beat the NFC East’s cellar squad 17 to 14.
What Bears will we see on Sunday? It is hard to tell through their inconsistent play. One thing we know is, Foles will be ready. He looked sharp last week, although the Falcons defense has been abysmal in this early part of the season.
The same cannot be said of the Colts defense. While this Colts team hasn’t played any good offenses thus far, they sit at number 1 in total yards given up, they’re also first passing yards and fourth in rushing yards. They’re coming off back to back stellar weeks, intercepting Cousins three time in week 2 and then Darnold another three times in week 3. But how will it go facing Foles, who no one has seen much of in the past few seasons?
The Colts are one of few who can say they have. Last season, when the former Super Bowl MVP was the Jaguars QB, he faced the Colts in Lucas Oil Stadium after missing the previous 8 games due to injury. Foles came out and hit DJ Chark on a 34-yard touchdown giving the Jaguars an early 7-0 lead. From there, he left something to be desired, as the Colts toppled the Jaguars 33-13 that afternoon.
Now what else makes this game a tough one to read. Well both teams will have a lot to prove. The Colts (2-1) victories have come over the 0-3 Vikings and the now 0-4 Jets. The Bears (3-0) have a similar story as their early hot streak has seen victories over the 1-2 Lions, the 0-3 Giants, and the 0-3 Falcons. Setting up a truly odd matchup of teams with playoff desires.
The Colts offense has not exactly carried their weight in the early parts of this season. In week one, they scored just 3 second half points in a loss to Jacksonville where Rivers threw two frustrating interceptions. They followed that up in week 2 with 28 points against the Vikings, but two of those were via a safety by newly acquired Deforest Buckner and 12 came from the leg of Rodrigo Blankenship. You don’t win games in this league by settling for field goals. While the Colts as a whole had an impressive week 3 against the Jets, the offense again only mustered up two touchdown drives as the defense won the day for Indianapolis.
But let’s look at the positive, rookie Jonathan Taylor has scored a touchdown in each of his first two NFL starts. If the Colts can establish the running game and open up Rivers to shot put the pigskin around, they can be difficult to stop.
My prediction: Colts beat the Bears 23-21 with young Blankenship hitting the game winner.

2019 OSG Report Week 1
The 2019 NFL season kicks off Sunday, and fantasy football season does as well. It’s very important to know the types of contests or season long formats you’re competing in to have true success. DFS wise, multipliers, and head to head contests calls for safe yet good plays that may be a little chalky across the industry. Big tournaments where finishing in the top 10 is the goal, calls for deep plays at times, and game stacking where you go with guts mixed with some form of research. Cash games or multipliers and head to heads, go for players with good floors with ceiling mixed in. In tournaments, chase the ceiling plays.
Chiefs -3.5 at Jags (52.5)
As always, the Chiefs are in a high total game. The Jags were one of the league’s best secondaries last season and if we go off that and last year’s KC performance this would not be a spot to pay up for the likes of Tyreek Hill. Though his performance vs Jax was subpar last year as well, I’m more inclined to roster Kelce over Hill to be different at TE. Until McCoy was signed, I was all in on Damien Williams week 1 to pair with Mahomes and not heavily target the receivers and hope all TDS thru air and ground comes thru Mahomes and Williams. Will it be a 60/40 split or more in the backfield? Andy Reid did not bring McCoy in just to sit. But I may still take some shots on Williams. His price is still down across the industry. The best value play will be Mecole Hardman in the slot. He’s dirt cheap on all sites and could have the better matchup with Hill and Watkins locked up on the outside by two of the best returning CBs in the NFL
-If we believe the total and the close game theory, you definitely want to run back the stack with some Jags players. I have been leery on rostering or drafting the oft injured Fournette. Maybe with a better passing game it takes some work load off? Nick Foles was the WRs QB in Philly as oppose to Wentz the TE/Ertz whisperer. If true, this will go well for the explosive Dede Westbrook who hasn’t shown his potential yet in a stagnant offense. Westbrook will be a popular choice across all sites. He’s cheap and he’s the #1 WR on a team involved with a 52.5 total. If the Jags defense shows up and slows down KC in any way, they will be a great defensive leverage play in tournaments where a lot of ownership could fall on Kansas City.
Rams -3 at Panthers (50.5)
What to do with the Rams. Do they have Super Bowl loss hangover? Is Gurley healthy? Will his load be lighter to start the season, and save he for the long haul? Last year I believe he was just running so hard the first 14 weeks of the season that he was just banged up to finish. Will he and Malcom Brown split time? If he has a great game, then this will be his cheapest price of the season. If you are looking for a game to stack, then here is one. Cam/Goff, McCaffrey/Gurley and/or WR of choice you like out of Woods, Cooks, and Kupp. Big strong physical receivers like Woods has had success against the smaller CB core of Carolina. DJ Moore is getting a lot of hype, but I never favor WRs of Cam Newton. He’s not predictable. He uses his legs to escape, which turns it into a “throw it to whoever looks open” scenario. So, between his rushing upside, and C-Mac I think those two players get you all of the Carolina TDs.
49ers+1 at Buccaneers (50).
If you’re looking for another stacking option game, then here we go. I do favor the Bucs side of the ball for many many reasons. I’m still not sold on the 49er offense outside of George Kittle who this week could be a top play at TE. Tampa Bay has always including last season been a prime defense to target with TEs. Aside from Kittle, I’m having a hard time clicking on players from teams no matter the over/under who I think are not good teams or players. Matt Breida and Tevin Coleman are splitting the backfield, Jimmy G remains a question mark. Against this Tampa defense however is a good spot to target. I’m just maybe going to miss out. I do think Winston will stockpile targets to Mike Evans for PPR leagues/sites, but TD equity will be a tossup between Peyton Barber, Chris Godwin (who should take a big leap this season, and OJ Howard. Winston as most young QBs loves his TE.
Falcons +3.5 at Vikings (47.5)
I was a little surprised to see the Vikings favored by over a field goal. Yes, Atlanta is on the road but still a dome setting. Xavier Rhodes wasn’t his usual self last season or the preseason, which bodes well for the Atlanta WR core. Particularly Julio Jones whom as of Friday “should play” despite contract negotiations. Matt Ryan is a classic spread it out in the red zone type of QB. While Freeman is Coleman-less in the backfield, I fear the Ito Smith vulture line of 5 rushes 11 yards, 2Td game. Ridley is not a target monster but is a TD machine vs the 0 red zone looks Julio for reasons unknown gets. Sanu is the alter ego of Julio because of his size and strength. My favorite pass catcher will be Hooper at TE who caught on late in the season as is a perfect funnel if the outside corners for Minnesota are doing well.
-Kirk cousins is still at the helm but it’s hard to ignore the concentrated targets of Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. Thielen is the safe play while Diggs is the tournament, dart, high upside play. My favorite play is Dalvin Cook. He’s at home✅. Favored✅. Used in the red zone✅. Could touch the ball 20 times✅. For several seasons we have picked on Atlanta with RBs, especially ones who catch passes. Kyle Rudolph seems to score a TD every other game and could be a pivot off Hunter Henry for a cheap TE.
Lions -2.5 at Cardinals (47.5)
Here is a game where I am having trouble with. At first, I skipped over it but think it could deserve some mention. Matt Stafford is underpriced and could go overlooked. The Arizona secondary has only been good in names on jerseys. Mix in a rookie QB who is making his coach feel like “teeth pulling” and the Lions route could be on. Stafford to Golloday or Marvin Jones Jr. could go under owned in tournaments and win a heavy tournament. Kerryon Johnson is also great in stacks with Stafford. If you don’t believe in Murray out the gate, the Lions defense could be sneaky here.
-The Christian Kirk/Kyler Murray train will begin steam and besides a flyer in a Million-dollar tournament stack I’m not sure if I’m heavy on Murray out the gate. He does offer rushing ability but on Fanduel he’s priced $700 more than Stafford. No way! I do think David Johnson returns somewhat to an easy 20 point/game fantasy producer this season. Just remember the Lions slow games down and their stacks are often frustrating to watch play out. I am stacking 2-3 lineups in large field tournaments just in case though.
Redskins +8.5 at Eagles (46)
This game has fade all over it. Large spread. Divisional game (I hate division games). So, with that said Jordan Howard is favored✅. At home✅. And is playable with the defense. Not optimal but if he carries 15-20 times and hits the end zone vs a shaky Washington team, he hits value. Wentz does tend to throw 2-3 TDS a game. He loves Ertz and he is a great pivot off of Kelce in the high priced TE range. He also has favored Alshon Jeffrey and D-Jack is always good for the long ball. But again, never a fan of stock piling divisional games.
Titans +5.5 at Browns (45.5).
Is Tennessee good? No. Do they suck? Yes. Can they go into Cleveland and shock us all and win? Not sure, but I’m willing to say they will cover the 5.5 underdog tag they have. They slow down and muddy up games. They make them real ugly. If Beckham is slowed down by his hip in any way, isn’t the team a lot the same on offense? Again, we are just talking about this week. I don’t favor any Tennessee offensive player but if you think they show up, Derrick Henry or Corey Davis is your guy. Two seasons ago, I would say play Delanie Walker because I have for several seasons successfully played talented TEs vs Cleveland. But are he and Mariota talented together? Maybe not.
-With that said I do like to avoid offenses vs Tennessee and this opening week will probably be no different. The only safe play in my opinion whom also offers upside is Nick Chubb at RB and maybe paired with the Cleveland defense who should be good. I do think we see Baker throw a lot of balls with Todd Monken at offensive coordinator. This is of special interest because Monken was the OC in Tampa and the combined numbers of Winston and FitzMagic, if were one player would have been the #2 scoring fantasy QB in the NFL. I hate being a week late, but I wonder if THIS is the matchup because in fantasy and DFS this game is all we care about for now. Plus, I’m interested to see how Baker distributes the ball. Which pass catcher is most viable? Is OBJ worth the price tag if limited in anyway. Can you trust Higgins or Callaway? I will focus most exposure personally on Nick Chubb and the defense here. He fits the bill. At home✅. Favored✅. Could touch the ball 20 times✅. Usually used in the red zone✅.
Chargers -6.5 at Colts (45)
I do feel I am a fish for it, but I do like the Chargers defense. Maybe Brissett is better than we anticipate, but we know what we are getting here. Austin Eckler’s buzz is growing and rightfully so. He should garner the majority of the rushes and should be involved in the passing game for a team who despite being on the road is favored and playing in a dome. The next fish play is site dependent, but Hunter Henry with no Antonio Gates is in play as is the Rivers/Allen or Rivers/Williams stack.
-I’m not in favor of tournament fliers on Brissett, Marlon Mack, and Eric Ebron. Those would be the only players I would consider but it’s a full fade for me.
Bills + 3 at Jets (40.5)
Why is a 40.5 over/under relevant? The prices. Is Josh Allen one of the best NFL qbs? No! Does he provide fantasy football value because of his legs? Yes.
-Is Sam Darnold the best QB? No. But at home, favored, and pricing, he and Bell could provide the TD equity in this game easy and this game will either fall under 40.5 or go way over and hit 50. I could easily see long TDs from Darnold to Anderson and could allow you to fit any RBs, WRs or defenses you want in lineup construction.
Bengals +10 at Seahawks (44). Chris Carson plus Seattle defense is the play here. Don’t fall for the Tyler Boyd with no AJ Green trap. Mixon could score but this is not an optimal spot.
Ravens -5 at Dolphins (37.5). As much as we may like Baltimore defense, how about the Dolphins defense for dirt cheap and just play all of the offense you want? Are they under dogs? Yes! But they are at home. And Lamar Jason could easily throw a pick six. That mixed with not allowing Baltimore to score 28-31 is good enough at their price. However, Jackson, Mark Ingram, and the Baltimore (an expensive defense) is still in play despite such a low total game. I think the Bills/Jets are more likely to go over their game total than this one. Young QBs like their TEs so Andrews is firmly in play as well.
