I mean “oropher and his silvan wife met and married and had thranduil in the years of the trees” thranduil and oropher and his wife had the first ever long distance relationship, with oropher sticking with doriath and his family there, for the time being, and Thranduil and thrandy’s mom staying in the Greenwoods, with oropher joining them when the dwarves sacked doriath for the silmaril bc “fuck this shit, I’m out. I stayed despite this jewel shit once, I’m not doing it again. Especially with a boy king leading a people to ruin bc he refuses to see sense”

Like, Thranduil is sindarian, in the same way Elrond is sindarian. Technically yes, but he wasn’t really raised the sindarin way.

Idk, maybe oropher and his wife got married (and had thranduil) before the sindar followed elwe, which is when they split, bc the wife (does anyone have a recommendation what to call her (or him? Them? I’m not picky)) did not want to live under valarin/maiarin rule. And thranduil wanted to stay with her.

Look all we know is that thranduil is sindarin on his father’s side, but literally nothing else. Canon is a sandbox and I’m building a palace.

Oropher in Thingol’s court in my “Miriel and Thranduil are Twins” AU

so I think I explained it a little in my “half silvan thranduil” post i made before my “That time Thranduil almost revealed that he was Miriel’s twin” post, but to elaborate a little more, oropher and his wife had Thranduil and Miriel before orome found the elves. And when the elves went on the great journey, thranduil and his mom broke off with the silvans bc they were not vibing with the valar at all,

but Oropher continued with elwe bc elwe’s mom was a very close friend of his before she died and he promised to watch over them for her (and his wife was very mad at him for leaving her and thranduil, not even to accompany his daughter (miriel) but for elwe, olwe, and Elmo) and when elwe ultimatly settled in doriath with melain, oropher stayed at his court to keep an eye on elwe and Elmo.

He and his wife had the first ever long distance relationship, with thranduil sticking with his mom (after oropher did a lot of groveling to get his spouse’s forgiveness for leaving)
