The cool night air is a welcome relief on your warm face. It’s night in the Glade, and all the other Gladers are asleep, well, except for you. You’re the only proper med-jack in the Glade, the only one who actually cared enough to read the textbooks that came up in the box long before your arrival, and due to this you’re the only one who is able to treat more severe issues. 

This means that when it comes to the overnight shift, it’s usually you who takes it. Whilst the other Gladers get to rest and recover you’re stuck watching over the patients who have winded up in your care for one reason or another. Tonight is another one of those nights, you have three patients, each in for different issues. They’re soundly asleep while you’re sitting at your desk, begging yourself to stay awake. It usually wouldn’t be an issue taking the overnight shift, you would usually use the time to tidy up the med-hut, but it’s the third night in a row that you’ve taken the shift. You felt bad for the other boys, and after all you are the newest to the Glade out of them, so shouldn’t you do what they tell you to? 

It’s nearing 3:30 in the morning, and you’re desperately trying to rub the sleep from your eyes when you hear the door to the med-hut open.

“Hello?” you call out, voice quiet so as to not disturb the three sleeping patients.

A familiar blonde-haired boy makes his way into the dim light of the med-hut. Newt, the Glades second-in-command, and one of your closest friends.

“Hey..” he says quietly, with a small smile on his face “What are you doing up?”

“I could ask you the same question” you respond with a cheeky grin.

Newt rolls his eyes and sits down next to you, smile never faltering.

“You know tonight is my turn to do the night watch” he says, watching you intently, seeming to realise the sheer exhaustion in your eyes.

“You never answered my question (y/n), what are you doing up?” he asks again gently, waiting for your response.

You sigh and run your hands on your face “it’s my turn to do the night shift tonight” you say, knowing fully well that by now it had to be one of the other boys’ turns. You simply don’t want to worry Newt, afterall he has a really important job in the Glade, and if he found out what the boys were making you do he would be livid.

Newt sighs and carefully moves closer to you, eyes never leaving your face “(y/n), I know that you took a night shift last night too, Alby told me. What are you still doing up, darling? Don’t lie to me”

You freeze, forgetting that Alby had in fact come to visit you last night. You realise there’s no point in trying to lie to him, you’ve never been able to lie to Newt, that’s why you guys are such close friends, he can always tell when something’s bothering you.

“I took tonight's shift too..” you say quietly, busying yourself with organising your desk so you wouldn’t have to see his face “it’s okay though-” 

Before you can say anything else Newt gently grabs your hand. The action makes you confused, and you turn to face him. His face is hard, clearly not liking what you’ve said.

“So you’ve worked the last 2 nights?” he asks quietly, before adding “How long has it been since you slept?” 

You pause “three days i think” you say almost sheepishly “it sounds worse than it is though Newt-”

Again you’re cut off by the boy in front of you. He looks incredibly mad now, not at you however.

“(y/n), darling, you cannot do this to yourself, okay? You need to rest, you’ll end up sick if you keep working yourself like this” he says gently, using a hand to gently caress your cheek

“Please, get some sleep for me”

You shake your head gently “I can’t Newt, the patients need someone to watch them..”

“So I’ll wake one of the other boys” Newt says with a shrug “they’ve been making you do their jobs, and that’s not on, okay? You deserve to rest, especially after a night shift. I’m going to tell Alby, and I promise you darling this will never happen again, alright?” he says, leaving no room for argument.

You nod your head, the tiredness now hitting you in waves.

“C’mon” Newt says, gently pulling you to your feet “your hammock or mine?”

It was a thing between the two of you to share hammocks some nights. Usually it was when one of you was having a tough day, or simply when it got too cold at night. Tonight seemed to be no exception.

“Yours please” you mutter, standing up. Newt smiles and begins to lead you out of the med-hut to where the hammocks are set up. The moon is full tonight, the light from it illuminating the tops of the trees in the Glade. It looked so peaceful like this, if you could ignore the sounds of the Grievers lurking in the maze. As you walk Newt turns around to look at you, making sure you're okay. His eyes are filled with concern. Soon enough, you both reach his hammock. You sit down and take off your shoes and then climb into the hammock, Newt following straight after. You settle into the hammock, your head resting on Newt's chest. He gently runs a hand up and down your back comfortingly.

"Is this okay?" he whispers, not wanting to ruin the moment.

You snuggle into him more "This is perfect. Thank you Newt" you say, lifting your head to place a soft kiss to his cheek. Newt freezes, not anticipating that. Before you can rest your head back on his chest he gently cups your face, looking down at you with soft eyes

“What was that for? Not that I’m complaining, darling” he says quietly, voice so soft and quiet.

You blush softly at his touch, leaning into his hand slightly.

“I just- you didn’t have to do this ... .just wanted to say thank you” you say softly, trying to avoid his gaze. You didn’t want him to see the blush on your face, knowing he’d tease you or worse, would figure out your feelings for him. By the way he’s looking at you it’s too late, he already knows just how much you like him.

“Hey” Newt says, gently turning your head so you guys are face-to-face “I would do anything for you…okay?” he says softly, the words almost flying away in the soft wind. If you weren’t looking at him you wouldn’t know he’d even uttered them. 

Your breath catches in your throat slightly. Is he saying what you think he’s saying?

“..you like me?” you ask after a beat.

Newt chuckles, the sound deep and comforting beneath your body

“(y/n), I like you. I adore you...you didn't know?” He chuckles again, seemingly amused at your obliviousness. “Is that okay?” he asks after a brief pause.

You feel like someone’s dumped a bucket of cold water on you. He likes you? Unbeknownst to him, you’ve been in love with Newt ever since you came to the Glade. He was the first person who showed you kindness, gently talking to you while showing you around the Glade. Before he can do or say anything else you press your lips to his. He’s taken aback for a second, before moving a hand to the side of your jaw and deepening the kiss. You can feel him smiling into the kiss, and you feel your lips involuntarily turn up. Eventually you have to break the kiss for air, but you don’t go far from each other, resting your forehead against his. 

“I really, really like you Newt..” you whisper. The smile Newt gives you is blinding, filled with love and sweetness and hope.

“That’s more than okay darling” he whispers back, a wide smile on his face.

You smile back, tiredness pulling at your eyes. Newt seems to notice this, and beckons you to lie down again.

“Go to sleep” he says quietly, smiling softly at you and wrapping an arm around you, hooking his chin over your head. You can hear his heartbeat, slow and unhurried. Safe. He places a soft kiss on the top of your head. The last thing you register before slumber pulls you in is Newt’s voice. 

“Sleep well (y/n)...words cannot describe how much I love you my darling”

You fall asleep with a happy heart and a smile on your face, looking forward to waking up next to the man you love.

A Dangerous Moment - Newt Scamander

A/N: I’m writing this for @newtscamanderimagines because they asked for someone to write this and I absolutely love this idea! Hope it turned out alright!

Request: Reader is female (15) and she absolutely loves all of the creatures he owns. However, one day something happens. One dangerous creature attacked her making her depressed and way too sad and scared to go back in his case. Cried all month etc. Tickles for cheer up?

Newt Scamander would tell his brother that he was at first afraid to let his little sister, you, to stay with him at first. You were only a teenager, 15 years old. He didn’t know how you’d feel benign around his creatures all the time, feeding them and interacting with them. But he gave you a chance, letting you move in with him and traveling with him as long as the trip wasn’t too far.

You surprised Newt, however, during your first night at his home. After you had gone to bed, Newt placed his suitcase down on the floor in his bedroom and climbed down into the zoo that was his suitcase. But after a few hours of sleep, you felt something climb on top of you and sit on your legs. You stirred, trying to move your legs but the weight was too heavy. When you opened your eyes, you were shocked to see a creature sitting on your legs.

“Hi,” you said gently, sitting upright slowly. “You’re a Demiguise, aren’t you?” The creature looked at you with wide blue eyes, then reached its long arms out to you. You let the creature wrap its arms around your neck and legs around your waist, then you stood. Slowly you made your way to Newt’s room. “Are you Dougal?” You asked the Demiguise and it nodded softly.

Newt wasn’t in his room, but you spotted his suitcase and opened it slowly. Making your way down the ladder, you felt the Demiguise grip you a bit tighter. You reached the bottom and your eyes widened in aw. There were magical creatures everywhere. You could see an occamy nest in the distance, and a thunderbird, too.

“This is awesome!” you exclaimed.

Dougal unwrapped himself from you and fell to the ground, taking your hand in his as he dragged you through the case. You followed, looking around at all the creatures as you were making your way through the case. Soon enough, you could see your older brother feeding mooncalves, sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

The wizard caught a glimpse of you through the corner of his eye, and did a double take, “Y/N? Why are you down here? You shouldn’t be here!” He abandoned the mooncalves as Dougal let go of your hand and climbed onto Newt’s back. “You could get hurt!”

Your eyes dimmed slightly, and you lost some of your smile. “I’m sorry. Dougal woke me up. I brought him back here and he led me to you.” You looked away from your brother. “I’m sorry, I’ll go back to bed. Sorry to bother you.”

You turned to walk away, but said one thing before you left. “Oh, and the Nifflers are sniffling. I noticed while Dougal brought me back here. You might want to check that out.”

“Wait.” You turned back to your brother, hair falling in your face and hiding Newt slightly. “You know what some of my creatures are?”

You moved the hair from your eyes and nodded. “I read your book, Newt. And sometimes I read articles about them.” You shrugged, turning away again. “But it’s no big deal. Just let me know if you need any help. I know a few things.”

From that night on, Newt let you work with him and his creatures. He had rules, though. He had to be with you whenever you were working with a dangerous creature, or one you didn’t know how to handle. Over time you were allowed to work with almost all of the creatures in Newt’s case, though.

You loved your new ‘job’ so much. You got to work with creatures as well as spend quality time with your brother. Everything was perfect until one night. You were feeding the nifflers before turning in for the night, having already fed the other creatures that Newt allowed you to tend to. As you were scooping handfuls of weeds and shrubs into the nifflers’ feeding bowls, your wand fell out of your pocket and rolled a few feet away. Thinking nothing of it, you got up from your kneeled position at the bucket of plants and walked over to your wand.

You noticed a hole in the ground near where your wand landed. You spared it a quick thought, noting how you didn’t remember seeing that hole there earlier. Then you kneeled down to pick up your wand.

You felt it before you saw it. A stinging pain coursing through your body, radiating from your hand. You cried out in pain, falling back on your butt as you gripped your hand to your chest. You could see a creature scurrying away out of the corner of your eye. You hadn’t ever seen it before, and you were sure you knew every creature in Newt’s case by now.

The pain quickly became too much to bear and your screaming was getting louder. You couldn’t sit up, tilting to the side and collapsing on your back. Your vision was fading, but you could hear something off in the distance. Through your faded gaze you could see Newt running towards you, then he was beside you.

You couldn’t remember much after that.

You wouldn’t go back into Newt’s case after that night. Even now, two weeks later, you haven’t even been able to look at a creature without bursting into tears and going into a panic. The only one you could stand to see was Picket, but only because you had been around him for years.

Newt was on edge, he’d admit. He wasn’t sure how to help you. He was so petrified when he heard you screaming that night. He thought you were being attacked by Grindlewald and his followers. But then, as he was running to you, he saw one of his venomous creatures running away from where he could hear you screaming.

You were pretty much out of it by the time he got to you. You were still conscious but Newt knew what creature had bit you, judging by the wound on your hand and said creature running past him earlier. There was no one attacking you, which was somewhat of a plus. But that didn’t change the fact that Newt was scared out of his mind. He knew how dangerous that creature was, and he wasn’t even sure how it had escaped its enclosure, but that was another problem for another time.

Newt had to pick you up and carry you back to the shed at the entrance of his case, quickly digging through all of his remedies and medicines to find what would help ease the pain and fight of the venom from the creature that bit you.

Once you recovered, you wouldn’t step foot anywhere near Newt’s case. To be honest, it saddened him that you no longer wanted to help him care for his creatures, but he understood why you were so afraid. The one thing he didn’t know how to handle, however, was the fact that you rarely left your room nowadays. He’d come in, bringing meals for the both of you and eating with you., but that was all he really could do. You spent a lot of time crying, he could hear it through the walls. You didn’t speak much anymore, either. Newt wasn’t sure if your actions were out of pure fear or if they were unknown side-effects from the treated venom.

He tried talking to Thesius, but his brother wasn’t much help. In fact, Thesius wasn’t happy with Newt for letting you around his creatures. In fact, he said, “Newt. This is your problem. Now you fix it.” What a beautiful brotherly support.

Eventually Newt had had enough. You needed to at least go outside and see some sunlight. You were looking worse and worse every day and he couldn’t stand seeing you like this. So one afternoon he gently knocked on your door and entered your room.

“Hey, Y/N,” he greeted quietly. “Can you please come outside with me? You need to see some sunlight.”

Your red puffy eyes glanced up to him. You had been crying again. “No thank you.” Newt sighed, lowering himself to sit beside you on your bed. He looked upset, and you couldn’t help but think that it was because of you. “I’m sorry.”

“I’m worried about you,” Newt admitted. “I know you’re afraid of my creatures now, and that’s ok. But please, you need to take care of yourself and I’d like you to at least see some sunlight.”

You shook your head slowly. “No. There could be creatures out there.”

Newt took a moment to think, then grinned slightly. As he turned to face you, you tilted your head in confusion. “What?” His movements were too fast for you and you had no time to defend yourself. Newt pushed himself forward, forcing you to lay down on the bed as he pinned you down. Then his fingers glided over your sides, causing a loud laugh to burst out of you. You tried to push Newt off of you and he continued ‘torturing’ you but it was no use. He was much bigger and stronger than you, and you didn’t stand a chance against him.

Newt continued to tickle you until you couldn’t breathe and he was concerned you’d begin to hyperventilate. Your brother finally leaned back, giving you room to move away from him, still giggling. “Why’d you do that?” you asked through gasping breaths.

Newt smiled softly. “Because I’m tired of seeing you so upset. If you won’t go outside then maybe at least I can get you to smile here inside.”

You scooted over to sit next to your brother, resting your head on his shoulder. “Thanks, Newt. Hopefully I’ll get comfortable enough again to work with your creatures soon.”

Flower Crown.

Pairing: Newt x reader

Summary: Newt making a flower crown for you, his partner.

Author's note: a drabble of Newt just because. My brain juices had been out lately so I haven't been writing the marauders as much. This is really short, anyways enjoy. English is not my first language so apologies if there are any mistakes in there.

It was a normal day in the Glade, a serene and vibrant place despite the lingering tension that flowed from the Maze.

Newt was by the garden, looking over the plants with a careful eye. Amidst the vegetables, there was a small patch of flowers growing— a burst of colors compared to the other earthly toned vegetables. He had spent countless amounts of time on tending to them, making sure that they bloomed beautifully for this very moment.

The sun was high in the sky. Newt, with his sleeves rolled up over his forearms, carefully picked up the flowers one by one.

After gathering enough, he sat down on the grassy land, his hands beginning to fiddle with the stems of the flowers, weaving them together until a delicate-looking flower crown had formed. He admired his handiwork and gave a nod of approval, proud of the little masterpiece he had created.

Meanwhile, you were inside one of the huts, hiding from the blazing sun, unaware of the blond boy that was approaching with a certain gift for you.

After a moment of contemplation and ensuring that the crown was perfect, Newt walked into the hut with a warm and excited smile on his face.

"Hey, love." he greeted, holding the flower crown behind his back, concealing it from view as he stepped closer. "I've got something for you." he added, unable to stop his smile from widening.

You raised an eyebrow, curiosity sparking. "What is it?"

Newt scooted a little bit closer, finally revealing the flower crown with a flourish. "I made this for you," he said, a hint of pride in his voice as he held the crown out for you to see. "Thought you might like it."

The flowers were vibrant, the color scheme clearly chosen ahead of time, a mash of all the colors you liked, jumbled into one thing, the stems were tied carefully together.

Newt gently placed the flower crown onto your head, his fingers brushing lightly against your hair. "Perfect," he murmured, taking a step back and admiring the sight.

"Thank you, Newt." you smiled softly, reaching up and touching the crown, the pads of your fingers gliding through the gentle texture of the petals.

"Of course, love." he smiled back.

you walked into your dorm room and immediately flopped onto your bed, face first. a groan left you as you internally cried about what had just occurred in class. you, yes you, had made a more than embarrassing mistake during potions class today, accidentally mixing up two vials of similar colored liquids and almost turning your seat mate into a newt. professor slughorn was obviously concerned about the mistake, but waved it off as the class snickered under their breaths. no, you'd never recover from this.

a knock on your door pulled you back to reality. you didn't even bother to get up, turning your head to the side so you could yell "it's open!" the sound of the turning doorknob, the creak of the door opening and closing, and the sound of deliberate footsteps filled your ears before a familiar dark haired slytherin came into your field of view as he crouched down next to your bed.

"who snapped your wand in two?" he asked in a sarcastic manner, moving to sit next to your laid out form.

"i don't wanna talk about it..." you grumbled, turning your head to face him.

"oh come on, i bet it's not that bad," he urged, poking your cheek with a silver ringed finger.

"i ruined a potion and almost turned half my class into red newts." regulus had to bite back a laugh, a soft smile forming on his lips as he glanced back at you. 

you heard the sheets rustling and felt regulus's body scoot closer to you. he laid next to you and after a few seconds, you felt his arms encircle you, pulling your head into his chest. this surprised you since regulus wasn't particularly keen on initiating intimate physical touch like this. the fact that he was doing this to make you feel better made your heart warm up.

you wrapped your arms around his torso, gently resting your head on his chest. "so, tell me more about how you almost turned half your class into newts."

"regulus!" you yelped as you felt him pinch your side teasingly.

"alright, alright. i'll stop." he murmured, resting his chin on your head. "enough about me. how was your day?"

"not as eventful as yours, that's for sure." he made that comment knowing you'd playfully smack him in the chest.

"my day was alright. rather boring, but alright. spent most of it at the library. then i spent about an hour helping dorcas settle an argument with barty." regulus said, letting out an annoyed huff, as if remembering the event gave him a headache.

"what was it about?" you asked, knowing that the two always got into play arguments.

"they were playing old maid in the slytherin common room and dorcas accused barty of cheating. it did start off as playful and somehow ended the same way?" regulus mumbled, a look of slight confusion on his features.

"why do you say that? i'm sure the whole thing was pretty much just playful banter." "halfway through the game, barty almost flipped the table...."

"yeesh, sounds like you had a rough day too." you laughed, regulus frowning a little as you reached up to pinch his nose. he let out some weird noise that made you burst into a fit of laughter.

"y/n-" you cut him off by burying your face into his neck, your body vibrating as you continued to laugh.

"it wasn't that funny, okay?" you couldn't even bring yourself to protest, more laughter leaving you as you stopped to imitate the sound he made, only to laugh harder.

though he looked as if he were embarrassed by you laughing at him, it really brought a smile to his lips. seeing you, tears in the corners of your eyes and your stomach hurting a bit from laughing so hard, was probably one of the times he thought you were the most precious, the most beautiful. but he'd never say that out loud. regulus rolled his eyes playfully, scooting over as if to get up.

"if you don't stop laughing at me, i'll leave."

"whaaaat? nooo, i'm sorry. it was just," you paused to laugh once more, catching your breath. "it was really cute!"

"it was not. that was embarrassing."

"whatever you say" you teased, leaning up to give him a little peck on the lips as he pouted. a grin spread over his lips and you could see his ears were still a bit red from embarrassment. "there he is!" you exclaimed, cupping his face into your hands.

even though you both had pretty shit days, you always managed to make one another feel better in the end. 🌼

You stand on the ledge of one of the Last City's walls with Newt, Gally and Thomas, overlooking the whole city. You fidget with your fingers, your body leaned up against the yellow railing. You run a hand over your freshly cut hair, feeling the slight breeze run through it.

You're unable to look out at the WCKD building, finding more serenity by looking at all the bright lights that dazzled against the dark sky. You feel a solemn type of peace as you look out across the city, although your close friend is still trapped behind those walls so many hundreds of feet away.

You look down, then loop your legs on the outside of the second horizontal rail, letting them dangle over the edge while you sit on that second rail. Your arms rest over the top rail, providing you safety next to your boyfriend.

As Gally and Thomas depart, leaving you two to catch up, Newt rests a hand on your back between your shoulders. He leans against the railing as well, looking at your dazed expression.

"You okay, love?"

You softly nod, looking up at the WCKD tower again.

"You sure?" He asks, "I know something else is on your mind, not just Minho"

You shrug, still silent.

He lightly sighs, trying to get you to look at him.

"You know you can talk to me, right?"

You nod again, giving him a little glance. The breeze sends a slight shiver up your spine, causing your cheeks, nose and lips to grow a little cold.

"Please talk to me, I'm here for you"

You shrug and look back down at your fidgeting fingers. "I dunno," you mumble. You pick at your nails, then begin to bite at them.

He gives you a knowing look, pleading you to open up. He reaches for your hand, pulling it away from your mouth.

"I don't feel like... normal. I know I'm not normal, but, like, I don't feel like a real boy. I'm not a real boy, but, like... I dunno." You shrug, your feet lightly kicking as they dangle from the ledge.

Newt softly places your hand back down on the railing and steps back. He wraps you in a hug from behind, resting his head on your left shoulder. "You are a real boy, okay? Gender is just a construct, you can be whatever you want to be, and I'll always be here to support you. You're my boyfriend, Y/n/n, alright? Is there anything I can do for you, or that you need from me?"

You shook your head no, leaning back into him as a sign of comfort and thanks.

"Why don't we catch up to Tommy and Gally, yeah?"

You nod, carefully untangling yourself from the railing as he awaits at the little entranceway behind you. He grabs your hand as you approach, sending you a soft smile as you quickly walk to catch up to your friends.

"I'm here for you, yeah?"

"Yeah"

Everytime I walk up the stairs to the Gryffindor common room I thank Merlin that I am a Hufflepuff and do not have to walk up these stairs everyday. However being friends with the Marauders means I make the trek more often then I would wish.

So here I stand outside the portrait waiting for the boys to come from their detention and let me in.

"Badger! They are bullying me!" Sirius Black, ever the drama queen yells at me from the adjacent staircase. He lays his hand over his forehead in a fainting motion.

" well, did you deserve it?" I say with the tilt of my head. I notice the band of 4 is short 1 tonight.

"Yes he did!" Says Peter Pettigrew as they all meet me where I am by the portrait.

"He made me and Wormtail clean up the sticky Calderons while he chatted with Slughorn about NEWT scores the entire detention!" James Potter wines out to me.

" well Siri looks like you made your bed and I gotta say if verbal bullying is the only retaliation you get from this, then you got off easy" I say with a gentle pat to his shoulder.

Peter says the password and we all enter the common room.

"I thought Remus also had detention with you tonight?" I say to the boys as James plops himself into the big red chair by the fireplace.

"He spent the afternoon vomiting so he got out of it, lucky bloke" Peter says as he lays down on the couch.

"What? But it's not for a couple weeks?" I grab my bag that I just put on the floor ready to march up to the boys dorm.

" yeah but he can still get ill not in relation to his furry little problem" James yells to me as I head up the stairs.

I enter the boys dorm room and am greeted by the beautiful sight of a sleeping Remus Lupin. I approach him quietly and as I get close to his bedside I notice a garbage bin-thankfully empty-next to his bedside and an empty dreamless sleep potion vial on the nightstand.

A sigh escapes my mouth at the sight. I let my bag fall to the ground and go to kneel on the floor next to him.

"Oh my poor boy" I say as I lightly brush my fingers over his forehead to feel if he has a fever.

He stirs in his sleep as I pull my fingers back.

"Shhh" I back up as he resettles himself into the covers.

I get up and brave walking into the bathroom to get him a cold cloth to put over his forehead. Honestly I'm not sure what good it does to a fever but I know I've seen other people do it so I assume it does something.

As I seat myself next to him on his bedside and put the cool rag over his head he finally opens his eyes.

His eyes furrow in confusion for a split second till he sees me and then a peaceful look comes over his face.

"Hey" he coughs "when did you stumble in here" he says as he leans in the touch of my hand on his face.

"Just a minute ago" I brush some hair off his forehead "the boys told me you were sick"

"Mmmh" he hums "just a little bit" he turns on his side towards me and makes room for me to join him.

"Sweetness, you see if I join you then I could get sick, and I don't want to be sick" I say but I already start slipping my shoes off.

"Hmm yeah but then I would get to take care of you for a change" he pulls the covers back for me to slip under them with him.

"Well I could be persuaded to accept that then" I slide in next to him and cuddle into his arms.

He pulls himself into my chest as I let my hands run over his hair as I try to coax him back to sleep.

"How'd I get so lucky" he mumbles as he falls back asleep.

"I've been asking myself the same thing" I softly speak and soon let sleep take me as well.

A/N: Hi! I’m glad you like my Newt writings! I hope this turned out alright. Sorry it’s so short.

It was getting late in the night and you were exhausted beyond belief. You had spent the day running errands and doing chores while Newt worked on his book and took care of his creatures. By the time you and Newt finished eating dinner, you were ready for bed. Except you hadn’t really seen Newt that much today, so you opted for sitting with him on the couch while he finished up on some writing.

Your legs were draped over Newt’s lap as you leaned your head against his shoulder. You watched Newt as he scribbled notes onto a scrap piece of parchment. He used his magic to hold open a book in front of him, occasionally flipping the page for him to continue reading and taking notes.

Eventually your eyes started to droop closed and you began drifting in and out of sleep. The weight of Newt’s arms resting on your legs was oddly comforting, lulling you even deeper into sleep. That is, until Newt innocently began lightly tracing his fingers across your thighs. He didn’t think anything of it, just assuming it’d be a comforting gesture. But then you jerked your legs back and squealed, scooting away from your lover.

“I-I’m sorry,” Newt quickly apologized. “I didn’t mean anything by it, I swear!”

Your face was a bright shade of red as you tried to avoid Newt’s apologetic eyes. “No, you’re alright.”
