“I don’t mind showing you the hippogriffs,” Newt nodded slightly. Even though his eyes were on the other’s feet he did mean it. Anyone who showed interest in magical creatures he would be more than happy to help out. Be it for introducing them to a new creature, teach them something new or just... satisfy their curiosity. He might not be the best teacher, but the will was there.

"I promise it is not usually this bad," he mused tentatively. Newt was tiptoeing the line between amusement and agreement, waiting for Tina’s face to read either happy or angry at the situation.

Newt had thought it might be romantic to take Tina to a quaint little spot in Scotland where the glow bugs came out around a lovely picturesque waterfall, going as far as to pack a picnic. However, like all his plans, they had been derailed by a surprise appearance from an Erkling.

An incredibly intriguing sighting considering they we rarely spotted anywhere other than the Black Forest in Germany. Newt set about trying to capture the creature and the Erkling attempted to dart, and then eat them both.

In his haste, Newt had pushed Tina into the lagoon when one dart had come dangerously close to piecing her and as she scrambled to keep hold of her balance he'd tumbled in with her.

They had both been drenched in freezing water.

Newt had had to scramble to his feet and leave Tina soaking as another dart went sailing past them, the Erkling cackled at their plight.

A breath later, a well-placed stunning spell and the creature was safely tucked away in his case, even if they were a little worse for wear in the aftermath.

Newt had guided them both to a nearby cave to dry off. He started a small fire for them both, lay their coats to dry and wrapped a spare blanket around them both to keep warm.

This was not the date Newt had planned but sitting close to Tina cuddled up together was pretty nice.

Three ships:

Virgilia/Plutarch. I know, a bit cliche to put my own ship forth here, but I'm noticing how much less of a shipper I've become insofar that I've more lukewarm takes on most ships, but this is one I'm really passionate about. It really (obviously) encompasses a lot of what I personally enjoy in seeing a relationship unfold. Virgilia has her own personal journey that fits well with Plutarch's. They complement each other so well and it's enjoyable to write / think about them :>

David Butt/Julia Montague. Those two are from the BBC series Bodyguard and they are such an interesting couple. There's hatred initially, each of their moments bringing them closer, and the final resolution of their story (the question of being together) never finding an answer. The show has its own problems with the portrayal of Muslim characters, and tbf whenever I rewatch it I only watch the first three episodes, but it has a sort of tension and development that I've really never seen replicated. I'm a sucker for bodyguard stuff, but none ever did it as well as this show, and most of those stories are far too smutty, far too overprotective, far too easily and quickly resolve (and me and @beedelia totally have a Plutarch&V AU based on those two).

This is NOT a ROMANTIC ship (hence the &), but I love PLATONIC stuff so much, so: Ellie Williams&Joel Miller. I really, fully, enjoy their growth together. I love a good parenting platonic not-actually-related situation. Their story is so raw. It's the way that their relationship is painted through struggles. It's the going through everything to keep their dad/their daughter safe. I love their journey and I love both games so much.

This was really hard because, as I said, I've got plenty of ships and I feel rather lukewarm about them. As in, yeah, I enjoyed this, but it doesn't have my mind spinning once I finish it and am done with the show/game. Here's a list of some ships I enjoy, but do not have a lot to say about: F!Commander Shepard/Miranda Lawson (Mass Effect), Cullen Rutherford/F!Inquisitor (Dragon Age), Will Graham/Bedelia Du Maurier (Hannibal), Serena Joy/Mark Tuello (Handmaid's Tale), Blackbeard/Stede Bonnet (Our Flag Means Death), Newt Scamander/Leta Lestrange (Fantastic Beasts). Was this cheating? Maybe, lol.

First ever ship:

I think my first ever ship was Captain Amelia/Dr. Doppler, mostly because I was very gay for Amelia and was excited for any romance interest she got. Like, it should have been me, but this was second best. I didn't write fanfiction about it or anything because I was far too young, but I think this was the first moment where I really shipped something.

First time I engaged with fandom might have been Remus Lupin/Tonks. Though I mostly read stuff rather than wrote anything.

First time I wrote something (in rp) was Haymitch/Effie, though I don't ship them anymore--same as Lupin and Tonks actually lol. Both for different reasons.

Last song: Bottom of the River by Delta Rae. Been listening to this one while writing!

Last movie: Everything Everywhere All At Once. I've had this on my watchlist since release and finally got around to it. Feels like something you should totally watch a second time. It was a brilliant movie.

Currently reading: A secret history. I'm not sure what to think of it yet & I'm halfway through. It's definitely interesting, but it's a very slow read (or maybe me mostly reading it in bed before falling asleep just doesn't read very fast).

Currently watching: Arctic Warrior. It's a German TV show about one (military) expert and one beginner having to survive (and travel through) the arctic parts of Finland. I usually don't enjoy those kind of shows, but I have a soft spot for Otto + watching it as an uncut reaction video from a favourite youtuber of mine is double fun. Actual tv series though, I want to start Succession (thanks Emily, lol) and/or Yellowjackets.

7. what universe have you never even considered writing in, and why?

The Harry Potter universe. Unpopular opinion in 3… 2… 1… I am just not a Harry Potter fan at all, heh. I’ve read none of the books, seen only two of the movies, and the only characters I really ever liked were Pickett and Newt Scamander (if we’re counting Fantastic Beasts as technically the same universe? is that a thing?). I know next to nothing about any of the characters or plots, and I just… I have no idea why but I just never got into any of it. So I’ve never considered writing in it myself because I don’t know it well enough to do so. I did have a fandomless OC who was in a few threads with a couple of characters from Fantastic Beasts, but that didn’t last long because the other muns dropped the threads. Probably because I was terrible at navigating the world, heh. But yeah strict OG Harry Potter verse, I’ve never written in that and wouldn’t consider doing it.

22. what have you learned by proxy of roleplaying and rp researching?

Oh I’ve researched so many things for rping or original writing over the years it’s not even funny, haha. But there are some things I keep coming back to out of necessity, so I’ve learned a lot more about them. I’ve learned a whole lot about firearms (types, parts, use, etc.), human anatomy and wound care, the effects of various drugs and medicines, and various materials (building materials, things like carbon fiber and Kevlar, steel and other metals, etc.).

As far as things I’ve learned specifically by rping or even talking to other muns around the world are nuances of language and culture, details about certain geographic locations, and things here and there about local laws and customs.

Aparecium (21+) - HP Universe - Brand New & Recruiting!

The wizarding war nearly destroyed Hogwarts at its very foundation. The Ministry, finally given just enough to justify its permanent closing. Before the doors were locked indefinitely, Newt Scamander stepped away from retirement to give the school its final chance. A chance it truly needs.

Hogwarts begins its rebirth under a new concept, a new head. Hogwarts University for Universal Magics. A magical university to reignite magic conversation between those of all walks of life. Magia est, in omnibus nobis. The first step in rebranding and rebuilding. A new motto and new hope.

The ministry hopes that with this rebuild and rebranding, as well as through the reassurances of Newt Scamander himself, that the dark times have passed. Peace is the tone that will set the pace for the next century. However, there lies an evil within Hogwart’s own walls that threatens to destroy everything that they’d fought to preserve.

There are talks of a resurgence of Death Eaters. Rumors of a forgotten descendant of Salazar Slytherin and rumors that the Dark Mark has been seen yet again in the skies. Whisperings of muggle crimes that weren’t actually performed by muggles. It’s all slow to make its way to the Ministry’s ears and even slower to be believed.

A new rumor has sprouted in the halls of Hogwarts. The Chamber of Secrets that was emptied all those years ago at the hands of the Boy Who Lived, is said now to be full again. Another creature was deposited in the chamber to protect the secrets and treasures that the headmaster himself has been sworn to protect.

There’s a new evil within Hogwarts that threatens the very students within the school. A student/professor themselves, they are hellbent in releasing the monster contained within the chamber to complete what Lord Voldemort himself couldn’t.

To top it all off, The other magical schools are invited for an exchange program of sorts. To celebrate the rebranding of Hogwarts and the revitalization of the remaining schools. Beauxbaton, Castelobruxo, Durmstrang, Ilvermorny, Mahoutokoro, and Uagadou all sent professors and current students to live and learn for the school year at Hogwarts University for Universal Magics.

RECRUITING FOR A HARRY POTTER UNIVERSE DISCORD RP! This is meant to be inclusive, fun, and ofc 21+. Which means if you are a minor, this is not a space for you. The server is just getting started so now’s a great time to join, get to know the other players, and perhaps even throw together a character.

A few things to keep in mind...

While this is in the HP universe, you don't have to know the books in depth to join. We will have most of the basics listed (such as wands and things) for those who aren't super familiar with the books/movies/etc

Characters are going to be 21+. Specific roles will have specific minimum ages already listed beside them. And these are meant to be OCs only.

Luella Cherish was born as a Magbob to two muggle parents in London, England. When she was thirteen years old, her magical abilities were revealed when she was being bullied at school. Her parents disowned her, so her older brother became her legal guardian and enrolled her in Hogwarts where she met Newton Scamander and befriended him. She grew up with him and a girl named Leta Lestrange. When Newton was expelled from Hogwarts, Luella quit to stand up for him and blended in with the muggles.

It had been several years since she last saw him. Now, she worked as an auror for the British Ministry of Magic thanks to her excellent skill and concentration in magical law. Apparently, a few magical creatures had gotten loose and Luella was tasked to find the culprit. She had done her research and if her suspicions were correct, as she wandered the town, she would bump into none other than Newton Scamander himself.

‘Local school boy expelled from Hogwarts! Newton Artemis Fido Scamander-’

The local newspaper had haunted Newt since his expulsion from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. To a small town any snippet of gossip was blown wildly out of proportion and made front page news whether evidence could be provided or not.

The rumour mill had started when he arrived home for the Easter holidays and had not returned, instead taking his final exams under the direct supervision of a strict invigilator with a loose tongue after a pint of bitter at the local pub. The atmosphere at home went from tense to rigid over night when the first headlines hit, now all any of the local papers could talk about was his ejection from Hogwarts. The community dragged their names through the mud, their lives were being pick apart for entertainment and Newt had been branded an utter disappointment.

Now all anyone did was compare him to Theseus. The golden child. The rising star. Tears pricked his eyes as the resentment towards his brother grew inside him. It was not Theseus’s fault, he was doing his best to fix the cracks Newt had created in this family but to constantly be in his shadow was taking its toll. Newt loved his Brother. He had always been the first person to accept his quirkiness. Until recently. He had started to distancing himself further from Newt. He could not afford to be associated with the black sheep of the family now his career was starting to take off at the Ministry of Magic.

Theseus had suggested to their father that hosting America’s own up and coming talent might be a way of polishing their tarnished name and give the newspapers something else to talk about. The talent in question being one of Theseus’s oldest friends. Percival Graves. The Graves were one of the original twelve families and founders of MACUSA in America. Newt had to try terribly hard not to scoff at the dinner table when Theseus went on and on describing how it would be an ‘honour’ to host and aid Americas brightest prospect.

The real reason Theseus wanted Percival around was to bolster his own reputation, bury ‘this nasty busy over Newt’s schooling’and to have an excuse not to mind his younger brother while he enjoyed his last few weeks of freedom. Newt had already been accepted as a research assistant into the study of Ukrainian Ironbellys, he would be working closely with the dragons and documenting their behaviour. Far away from England.

In the distance Newt could see the dying embers of a Periculum spell his brother had likely sent up to call him back for dinner. Percival Graves would be arriving shortly and the house had been in a complete frenzy all day, cleaning spells working double time and a feast had been prepared. Newt had slipped out the back door and down the path leading into the woods at the first given opportunity, no one wanted him under foot. He was better off out the way, out of sight and out of mind. Unfortunately, Newt knew this woodland area by heart, there was no chance he could get lost and so he had no excuse not to be late.

With heavy footsteps he begrudging trekked back into the house. Newt had already planned the evening in his head. He would greet Percival, eat the dinner prepared for him and sneak up to his room just after dark when he had lingered long enough to go unnoticed. Hopefully avoiding most of the unpleasantness.

The clock struck seven and everyone was waiting downstairs in the lounge feeling every second ticking by, Percival would be arriving any moment and the evening would begin. To Newt this was the calm before the storm.
