Really wonderful to hear this morning that contrary to fears and warnings, not only did the far right fuckers completely bypass Wallsend yesterday, but when they did eventually turn up in Newcastle city centre, they were laughably outnumbered by the diverse communities of our beautiful city standing together.
Proud to be a Geordie today ❤️

"The last week has been full of horrible, heartbreaking news. But that changed in Newcastle on Wednesday night.
Fears that violence, racism and prejudice would descend on the West End of our city were, thankfully, averted. The list of "targets" circulated by online Far Right groups this week had included the Beacon on Westgate Road - where lawyers have had the temerity to try to help those wishing to come to this country.
In response, thousands stood up and, literally, put themselves in the way. This city does not believe in hate, they said.
Councillors and faith leaders told me - standing on a street corner next to people of all backgrounds, faiths and races - how this city's reaction had made them feel comfortable, despite the wave of racist hatred the UK has seen in the last ten days. It's the least we could have done.
Having experienced the outpouring of love, I am quite possibly prouder than ever to be from here and from a North East that will not let the grievances of living somewhere that is often left behind divide us.
On Saturday I read the piece written by my colleague David Huntley about the horror seen in Sunderland and felt shame and sadness (however we sometimes pretend, Geordies and Mackems are alike, and I know the people of Wearside to be similarly passionate about welcoming those who come here). Ahead of reporting on the planned protest at the Beacon I felt serious trepidation, too.
But what happened showed how the people of the North East respond to an attempt to threaten our communities. Given just days to organise, a small group of determined West End folk told those seeking to cause terror where to go.
Not here. No more.
On Saturday, with yet another neo-fascist rally planned in Newcastle, the backlash against hatred will continue. Those who bring violence and anger will be met with the love of communities that look out for one another.
I hope the result is the same. That violence is a no-show. And that people from across our city and our region can begin to get on with their lives.
At The Beacon, which really is at the heart of its community, Imam Abdulbasith Mohammed said to me: "It has been a really good day. We feel pleased, welcomed and protected. The solidarity makes us feel comfortable in Newcastle.
"In our community we have seen real fear. Especially among the vulnerable and children.
"They had never seen scenes like the horrific pictures in the last week. They have been afraid. But now there's a sense of the love in Newcastle.
In Newcastle, we have never seen that horror. Geordies are famous for their love."
Enough said."
This is what we Geordies are about ❤️
