출근해서 일하다가 점심 시간 때 회사 근처 영화관에 갔다. 전부터 보고 싶었던 영화가 마침 점심 시간에 상영해서 근무 시간에 방해되지 않으니.

존엄사에 관한 이야기였는데, 상업 영화 느낌은 아니었지만 대배우들이 출연하기는 했다. (Julianne Moore, Tilda Swinton, John Turtturo) 영화 색감이 예뻐서 약간 Edward Hopper 그림이 생각났다. 실제로 영화에도 Hopper 그림이 등장하기도 했고. B와 문자를 주고받다가 영화를 보고 나왔는데, 그 사이에 온 문자... Mets signed Juan Soto! 놀라운 일이다! Mets가 수퍼스타 선수를 데려오다니... Soto가 역시 돈이 많은 구단주를 둬서, 많은 돈을 주겠다는 Mets로 오는구만. 15년간 7억 6,500만 달러... (나는 평생 7억 6,500만원도 못 만져보는데, 아니 7,650만원도 못 만져봤다. 생각해 보니 765만원도 만져본 기억이 없다.) Ohtani보다 더 좋은 대우를 받는 최초의 선수가 됐다. 솔직히 말하면 좋은 선수를 데려온다고 그렇게 돈을 많이 쓰는 게 나는 이해가 잘 되진 않는다. 저러다가 시즌 초반에 부상을 당해서 못 뛰거나, 잘한다고 데려왔는데 생각보다 시원찮으면 어쩌려고 그러나. 어쨌든 생일을 맞은 B에게는 너무나도 큰 (Uncle Stevie가 준) 생일 선물이다. (Happy Birthday! 🥳🎂) 좋겠네~ B도 이 소식을 듣자마자 제일 먼저 생각난 사람이 나라고 했다. 하긴, 주변에 Mets 좋아하는 사람이 워낙 거의 없으니... 원래 이틀 뒤에 하려던 사무실 연장 계약을 오늘 급하게 했다. 내년부터는 렌트비가 더 오르는데 어쨌든 유지하기로... 옳은 선택인지는 잘 모르겠지만.
