Another indie classic that I almost forgot about, the synth riff is very unique, I can recognize it from a distance , also, their vibes remind me a bit of another band from those times, which is MGMT.
Song: Punching In A Dream
Artist: The Naked And Famous
Year: 2010

Unknown Mortal Orchestra <3
OK there's this band, originally from Auckland, who moved to my hometown of Portland many years ago and proceeded to put out a string of fascinating, fun, deeply sad, deeply horny, extremely EXTREMELY druggy record albums. And because I'm in a state where every love song is about Stede and Edward (and/or Izzy Hands), I found it very easy to map my Our Flag Means Death-centric imagination with the UMO's songs. But I also started really falling for the main guy, Rube, and his divine islander (Maori/Hawaiian) drug burnout genius styles. I'm just bitter that they've been in town all this time and I had no idea, because I will 100% stalk this band if I can gin up the physical energy.
I choose this song for its really marvelous OFMD energy lyrically, and the really marvelous 70s Stevie Wonder/Bill Withers influence of this bop monster, but they're literally all good. Every single song UMO has ever done is good. And yes this one came out eight years ago, but... hey I get to things when I get to them.

Devilskin: metal/rock with female singer who can do some amazing vocal work
Villainy: rock band with big millennial feels to the lyrics ("Raised in the Dark" and "Dreams" are both very #Mood songs) "Love & War" from their second album, "Dead Sight," is my FAVOURITE song of theirs.
The Decemberists: I don't even know how to describe them... start with the album "The Hazards of Love."
I've just recently discovered The Amazing Devil, basically if you like "Toss a coin to your Witcher" and "Burn, Butcher, Burn" from The Witcher, you'll love The Amazing Devil...
The other day we were talking about how as you get older it's easy to stumble into "old thing good, new thing bad" bullshit just because sticking with old things is easy while finding new things you'll like takes work, and I realized that a couple of years ago I just sorta stopped listening to new music.
Recommend me some tunes, Tumblr. I mostly listen to metal and filk but I've got big soft spots for outlaw country, girly pop, and political hip-hop, and I'll listen to just about any old thing at least once

Today, on April 13th, 1985 - Queen Story!
Auckland, New Zealand, Mount Smart Stadium
'Works! Tour'
This outdoor show was Queen's first and only concert in New Zealand.
Freddie Mercury got very drunk with Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet before the show, sharing entire bottles of vodka and vintage port. Hadley was around only because their New Zealand tour dates had been suddenly canceled while playing in Australia, and later in the evening he would clearly ignore his manager's warning to keep a low profile.
Between songs (probably after the medley of old songs), Freddie did his usual falsetto vocal improv, and added, My voice is fucked!" According to a book on Queen, at one point he proclaimed to Hadley who was side stage (into his mic and thus audible to the audience) that he was "pissed."
Tony Hadley joined Queen for Jailhouse Rock (as seen in the second picture above). Roger Taylor recalled Tony didn't remember a single word of the song. He apparently ended up singing Tutti Frutti instead. He fondly recalled the day in a 2006 interview. Here's a pro pic taken during this song

Okay because I’m watching a video about some attempt at a Wiggles dark ride and I am feeling nostalgic because the Wiggles were a staple of my childhood:
Jack convincing Matt, Al and Zee to go as the Wiggles with him for Halloween.
