To be honest, I don't know. If you'd asked me a few years ago I would have honestly said no and been kind of offended anyone could hold Loki accountable for anything. But the thing is - now, after a lot of therapy, I don't think that mental illness or distress is an excuse for hurting people unless it is a genuine psychosis. If I was Loki's lawyer, which I'm not, I would say he was experiencing temporary insanity (a type of psychosis sort of) at the end of Thor 1.
But here's the thing, even if Loki wasn't really aware that what he was doing was wrong - did he still hurt the people around him? Yes. He did. Thor will carry lifelong mental scars from that fight. So to me, it's a gray area. Loki may not have understood what he was doing was wrong per se, but Thor was still hurt anyway. And this is not, in any way, a trade-off. Thor has hurt Loki in the movie, so Loki gets one free pass for all that he did to Thor? No. Not how this works. You don't get to hurt someone just because they hurt you. Like that works in fiction as motivation because it's fiction. Thor was hurt, and Loki was hurt. Their relationship is a mess and that was the point of the movie. They both hurt each other.
In the Avengers, Loki's official, MCU given body count may be 80-160ish people, but what about injuries? Mental trauma in the aftermath? Grieving loved ones? That's a minimum of 1000+ people affected.
And here's a not-so-secret secret: I don't think Loki was mind controlled in A1. I don't.
I know MCU has said Loki was being influenced by the scepter, but what does that even mean? They've never explained and Loki doesn't behave the same way that Clint or co did when they were mind-controlled. The scepter clearly has WEIRD effects on people, but what that means for Loki is ?????? They've never explained that further than a couple of sentences and before I accept this as being like canon-canon, I have to know what that means.
I will happily die on the hill that he was tortured by Thanos -- you will pull that from my dead, rotting fingers -- and that is a type of coercion that would absolve a lot of guilt, but I do and don't think Loki bares some responsibility for the invasion. I don't know. It's a gray area. I like the idea that Loki was tortured and then he agreed to attack New York to escape it. Mostly because I'm not afraid to wrap characters in darkness. I think Loki is allowed to have done something awful to escape something equally awful. Gray area. I'm not afraid to poke at the gray area.
But the thing is? Even if Loki 100% absolutely bares blame for Thor 1 and Avengers 1, canon matters very little to me in MCU anymore. They haven't given me anything I was happy to accept into my personal canon since Infinity War. I write fics with whatever now. I characterize Loki off of OG Loki and will continue to do so until I die, sometimes I put in that he was mind-controlled, more often than not I don't. I write Loki as a good person who did an awful thing to escape a worse thing that defines the rest of their existence but they're still trying to be a good person anyway. When I engage with Thor 1, I write Loki as having gone through a massive psychosis, but still having hurt Thor. I write Thor and Loki's relationship as both of them having hurt the other but still willing to burn down worlds for each other. Y'know, just a tad (lot) unhealthy. (But in a fun way because this is fiction and no one is hurt by it). Like my version of canon is slightly detached from canon and I know that, but like? I don't care. No one cares? Do you know the amount of comments I've gotten about a character being ooc in the last 1-2 years in MCU?
0.
Because what even is canon at this point? I could write Loki as literally anything and there would be a canon justification for it because Loki's canon characterization is such a mess now that there's no "correct" version of him anymore.
Like guys -- I write about Hela being a good sister. Do you think canon backs that? Absolutely not. Do I care? No?????? no I don't. She, Thor, and Loki are the best siblings in my heart and I will continue to write about that despite what canon says.
Once I let go of the idea that every character I like is secretly a 100% moral human being who is free of any guilt or terrible things, it relieved a lot of guilt and expectations I have for the characters. One of my main characters in my original book series has a body count in the actual millions and I absolutely adore them, okay? Because it's fiction. No one is hurt by me liking this character. I'm not going to start advocating for death. I've liked Loki since I was 15, and I didn't grow up to be a murderer. Honestly, now I kind of prefer the little bit of darkness because redemption stories are just my Thing TM. I love, love taking the dark or dark-adjacent characters and then dragging them into a found family against their will.
So I don't need Loki to be free of all guilt in order to like him. But I'm also happy to explore the idea that he is because it's fun either way. Darkness or less darkness, he's still just Loki.
(That's why I'm having fun with the Loki season 2. Because to me it's like a fic that took one interpretation of what happened and rolled with it. Because canon is whatever at this point. Loki in the series did attack New York by choice. Does that strictly agree with canon of A1? No. Absolutely not. They're ignoring so much, but the series isn't about that event specifically even as much as I wish it WAS, it's about Loki's relationship with the other characters. Idk. It's complicated.)
Fics are often a love letter to canon, an exploration/extension of what canon is, but other times they're someone looking at canon and going "WHY." and then rewriting it. I'm in the latter part now. I used to be the former, but MCU is just. MCU now. So I kind of looked at Loki and Thor, took a cookie cutter to both of them and then left with that. There's still other dough, but I don't care about it.
So yes I hold him accountable. And no. And kind of both?

NEW YORK â Colinford Mattisâ trajectory from a working-class upbringing in East New York to the Ivy League and corporate law abruptly ended at about 1 a.m. May 30, 2020, when a Molotov cocktail ignited the center console of an empty police car during a Black Lives Matter protest.
On Thursday afternoon, Judge Brian Cogan of U.S. District Court in Brooklyn sentenced Mattis, one of two young lawyers who burned the vehicle during the protests days after the murder of George Floyd, to 12 months and a day in prison and a year of post-release supervision.
Mattis, 35, has lost his law license, having pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit arson and having acknowledged he had broken the law he had sworn to uphold. Now he may lose much more: the guardianship and planned adoption of three foster children. The oldest is 14.
On Thursday evening, the Brooklyn courtroom was crowded with Mattisâ friends and family.
âIâm deeply sorry and embarrassed about the things I did and said in May 2020,â Mattis told the judge. He said he recently reread his text messages from that day. âI am more than horrified at the words I used,â he said.
âI am sorry that I hurt my three children that my mother had entrusted to me,â he added.
The judge told Mattis that the country needed attorneys to bolster faith in the rule of law and to reassure Americans that the legal system would hold Floydâs killers to account. He told Mattis that his hard work had changed his station in life.
âYouâre not one of the oppressed,â Cogan said. âYouâre one of the privileged.â
Spectators in the gallery gasped at the judgeâs words. âTo make that comment, youâre not seeing the same things that Iâm seeing,â said Taaj Reeves, a friend of Mattisâ, after the hearing.
In November, the judge had sentenced Urooj Rahman, Mattisâ friend and a fellow lawyer, to 15 months in prison and two years of supervised release for the same crime. She was the primary caretaker of her aging mother. Cogan called the sentence one of the most difficult he ever had to impose. After a lifetime of hard work and conscientiousness, he said, Rahmanâs conduct was a violent aberration.
âYou are a remarkable person who did a terrible thing on one night,â the judge told her.
Cogan said Thursday that Mattis got a lighter punishment because he had not been the main instigator of the attack.
The sentences close a case that stunned the city, devastated two families and exposed deep fissures between the police and the community. They reflect a long negotiation with the U.S. attorneyâs office in Brooklyn, which at first sought steep charges and had pushed to deny bail to Rahman and Mattis, both first-time offenders.
Rahman and Mattis had been high achievers, children of immigrant families who were raised in New York. Rahman pursued public interest law, co-authoring a paper on police reform in 2014 and working at Bronx Legal Services. Mattis followed a more lucrative corporate path. But he was already teetering in his career and personal life when the protests occurred.
The events that led to their downfall began in an unsettled spring.
Mattis had been furloughed in March from his job as an associate at the law firm Pryor Cashman, and the pandemic had cut him off from outside support as he took care of the children, his lawyer wrote.
Then, on May 25, video of Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man who died in Minneapolis after his neck was pinned to the ground by Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, ignited protests. There were demonstrations in at least 140 cities across the United States.
In New York, peaceful protests turned into confrontations with police. Throughout the weekend, demonstrators clashed with officers in Union Square in Manhattan and outside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, resulting in injuries and hundreds of arrests.
On May 29, according to court documents, Mattis had been drinking throughout the day as he exchanged despairing messages over the murder of Floyd with friends, including Rahman, who were mobilizing to join a protest. That evening, Rahman, who was 31 at the time, met Mattis after he made stops to buy supplies, including gasoline, and joined a swell of protesters in Brooklyn.
Shortly after midnight, with Mattis at the wheel, according to court filings, they drove in a tan minivan to a police precinct in Clinton Hill. After trying to persuade a bystander to throw a bottle that she was holding, Rahman got out of the van herself, walked toward an empty police patrol car that had already been damaged by protesters and threw the Molotov cocktail through its broken window before fleeing.
She and Mattis were arrested shortly afterward and held in jail for several days before they were released to home confinement.
It was a politically fraught moment after New York police officers had arrested hundreds of people during the protests, many on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and unlawful assembly. District attorneys said they would not prosecute many of the nonviolent cases.
Brooklyn federal prosecutors, then part of the Trump Justice Department, appealed twice to keep them behind bars, saying that the two lawyers had tried to incite others to similar attacks. But more than 50 former federal prosecutors signed a public letter urging the appeals court to reject the U.S. attorneyâs officeâs argument for detention, saying it contradicted settled bail law.
In June 2020, a grand jury returned an indictment against Mattis and Rahman that included seven counts, including arson, use of explosives and civil disorder.
In November 2021, after President Joe Biden had taken office and new leadership had taken over in the Department of Justice, Rahman and Mattis each pleaded guilty to one count of possessing and making an incendiary device. Last June, those charges were dismissed as part of a deal with prosecutors, and both pleaded guilty to a count of conspiracy to commit arson.
At Rahmanâs sentencing, she faced up to five years under federal guidelines, and the government had asked for 18 months to two years. Her lawyer, Peter Baldwin, asked the court to impose only supervised release, saying his client had experienced âa dangerous and reprehensible lapse of judgment.â
âUroojâs emotions â her anger, her despair, her rage â got the better of her,â he told the judge. Since the incident, Rahman had been in therapy and Alcoholics Anonymous, Baldwin said.
Rahman was born in Pakistan and grew up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn; she graduated from Fordham Law School and had always been drawn to public interest work, a commitment for which Cogan praised her.
When she addressed the court, Rahman cried as she spoke about her motherâs grief. âI donât think there are enough words to express my sorrow and regret,â she told the court. âMy sole intention was to lend my voice to other New Yorkers in the pursuit of justice. I completely lost my way in the emotions of the night.â
She is to report to federal prison in Connecticut on Tuesday.
Mattis has already spent nearly a month in jail, has taken a leadership role in his Alcoholics Anonymous chapter and is at no risk of reoffending, his lawyers said in the memorandum to the judge.
Sabrina Shroff, his defense attorney, told Cogan in a presentencing letter how Mattis, the son of immigrants from Jamaica and St. Vincent, grew up in a chaotic home. Although early on he struggled academically, he went on to graduate from boarding school, then attended Princeton University and New York Universityâs law school.
When he was in his second year of law school, his father, Kingcolinford Mattis, was stabbed to death during a robbery in St. Vincent. His son used alcohol to dull his pain, Shroff wrote.
After law school, when he took a job at a law firm in 2016, he was often late or absent, court documents said. His yearslong dependency on alcohol worsened. He was asked to leave the firm just as his mother was diagnosed with uterine cancer, and he became her primary caregiver until her death in 2019, even as he worked at another firm.
After she died, Mattis took over her role as the foster parent for the three children he is now in the process of trying to adopt. He is also the primary caretaker for his 15-year-old nephew.
Shortly after the pandemic hit in March 2020 and Mattis was furloughed, his drinking increased, according to court filings.
On May 29, 2020, hours before he joined the protests, Mattis watched the video of Floydâs murder for the first time and began to cry.
Within hours, court records said, Mattis was driving the minivan quickly away from the burning police sedan with open bottles of Bud Light, a funnel, a half-full red gas can and rolls of toilet paper.

6. Cuts, lacerations, and abrasions:
Sharp tools, debris, and materials increase the risk of cuts and abrasions on construction sites. While these injuries may seem less serious, they can still result in significant medical costs and a long recovery time. New York construction accident attorneys help assess the full impact of these injuries when it comes to recovering compensation
7. Respiratory injuries:
Exposure to dust, chemicals, and hazardous materials on construction sites can lead to respiratory problems. New York construction accident lawyers advocate for workers suffering from respiratory injuries, ensuring they receive compensation for medical treatments and ongoing care.

Catastrophic Injuries in the Workplace
When a worker becomes injured in the workplace, there is the hope that he or she will make a full recovery and return to work. However, some workplace injuries are so severe that they prevent the worker from returning to his or her job for a lengthy period of time. When a worker suffers a catastrophic injury, he or she suffers a lifelong disability, which prevents them from returning to work or even earning a livelihood. Workers' compensation benefits alone cannot help the injured worker or his or her family. In such a situation, an experienced New York personal injury lawyer will be of invaluable assistance and help advise workers about all the options that are available to them for compensation.
Once a work-related injury is determined to be catastrophic an injured worker could be entitled to lifetime income benefits. Examples of catastrophic injuries in the workplace include traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, second or third-degree burns, quadriplegia or paraplegia, amputations, and blindness. Any severe injury that would prevent an individual from being able to perform his or her prior job or another job for an employer is defined as a catastrophic injury.
Workers who are injured on the job are entitled to New York worker's compensation benefits available through their employer. However, these benefits do have an expiration date and may not last forever. In a catastrophic injury accident, workers' compensation benefits are often insufficient to help pay for all medical expenses and rehabilitation costs.
In such cases, an experienced New York catastrophic injury lawyer will look into whether any third-party compensation is available for the victim. Third-party claims are usually filed against parties other than an employer. Examples of third parties include a property owner, a general or subcontractor, an equipment maintenance firm, or a manufacturer of a faulty product. In other words, if the work-related accident was caused by an entity other than the employer, there is a potential third-party claim.

Catastrophic Personal Injury Claims in NYC: A Guide for Victims
Have you or someone you know been seriously injured in New York City? The emotional and financial consequences of such an occurrence can be devastating. A catastrophic injury can have far-reaching consequences, from medical bills to long-term rehabilitation. However, it's critical to remember that as a victim, you have legal rights to hire Catastrophic Personal Injury Lawyer and choices for seeking restitution for your losses. In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the intricacies of catastrophic personal injury claims in NYC, providing you with valuable information and guidance during this challenging time.
What constitutes a catastrophic personal injury?
Before delving into the specifics of catastrophic personal injury cases, let's clarify what constitutes a catastrophic injury. A catastrophic injury is one that produces serious and lasting damage and has a substantial influence on the victim's life. Spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, severe burns, amputations, and many fractures are examples. These sorts of injuries frequently result in long-term disability, costly medical care, and a reduction in the victim's quality of life.
Catastrophic Personal Injury Claims in NYC You Should Know:
Liability determination in catastrophic personal injury cases:
Establishing culpability is an important part of pursuing a catastrophic personal injury claim in NYC. In most circumstances, you must show that your damage is caused by another party's carelessness or malfeasance. This might involve demonstrating that a property owner failed to maintain safe premises, a motorist acted carelessly on the road, or a manufacturer made a faulty product.
Working with an experienced Nyc Catastrophic Personal Injury Lawyer at this time is critical because they can assist you in investigating the facts of your accident, gathering evidence, and building a compelling case on your behalf.
Understanding New York's Statute of Limitations:
It is critical to understand New York's Statute of Limitations in each personal injury case, particularly catastrophic ones. This is the deadline by which you must file your claim. Personal injury claims in New York City have a three-year statute of limitations from the date of the accident or injury. However, depending on the facts of your case, there may be exceptions and particular requirements, such as if the negligent party is a government organization. Consulting with an attorney as soon as possible following your accident will guarantee that you satisfy all deadlines.
The significance of obtaining evidence:
Gathering evidence is required to build a solid catastrophic personal injury claim. Medical documents, accident reports, witness accounts, images, and expert views may all be included. Your lawyer will work hard to gather and preserve all essential evidence to support your claim. Remember that the more proof you have, the stronger your case will be.
Seeking reasonable compensation for your losses:
Victims of catastrophic personal injury have the right to seek compensation for a variety of losses. These may include medical expenses, future medical treatment, and rehabilitation, lost wages and earning capacity, pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of enjoyment of life. When evaluating the long-term implications of catastrophic injuries, calculating the entire magnitude of your losses can be difficult. An expert catastrophic personal injury lawyer can assist you in determining the worth of your claim and fighting for the full compensation you are entitled to.
The litigation process and its outcomes:
While the majority of personal injury claims are settled out of court, certain catastrophic instances may go to trial. Your attorney will walk you through each stage of the litigation process, which may include filing a complaint, conducting discovery, negotiating, and, if necessary, going to trial. It is critical to be prepared for the prospect of a legal struggle since a good conclusion may take time. Remember that throughout the process, your attorney will fight relentlessly to speak for your rights and safeguard your interests.
Conclusion:
A catastrophic personal injury in New York City can be terrible, but you are not alone in your quest for justice and recompense. You may handle the legal procedure with confidence if you grasp the nuances of catastrophic personal injury lawsuits and seek the advice of a qualified lawyer. Remember that time is of the essence, so don't wait to speak with a catastrophic personal injury lawyer about your case and explore your legal alternatives. FNaF Characters! [ALTERNATIVES]
HI! HI!
This is like a continuation from my previous post, but this shows the OTHER characters I have! They're basically just the alternative versions of the already existing ones! Enjoy!
Name: Mike Schmidt [2017] Birthday: August 8th, 1975 Voice: New York⢠Incarnate but more raspy and grouchy. Job: Security Dayguard and Tour Guide at Fazbear's Fright's.
Traits: Vengeful and (kind of) a Pyromaniac
How to Ask: Simply include "Mike [Fright's]", "Mike [2017]" or "Modern-day Mike" to ask him, or just directly say which version in your ask!
closest with: Luke
hatred of: Micheal Afton
story: Back in 1993, he was the guard for Freddy Fazbear's Pizza until Micheal Afton stole his identity and tampered with the animtronics, getting both himself and this guy fired. Now, he's both a tour guide and a nightguard at the place he once worked at. However, he has... much, much more motives to coming back. He's ending the cycle, apparently, how? By throwing it all, and watching the Burning Pile that comes afterwards. If he dies in the process, specifically in the fire? Even better.
Name: Fritz Smith [2017] Birthday: July 23rd, 1963. Voice: Steve Harvey but he's a lawyer now. Job: Judge alongside Lawyer from Smith Law and Justice Firm and Private Investigator. Traits: Investigative, just, and respectful. how to ask: Ask by specifying the question to "Honorable Smith" or "Justice Fritz". closest with: Nobody. hatred of: William Afton (and partially Henry Miller.) story: Back in 1987, he was fired on his first day. The reason? He's a lawyer investigating Fazbear's Entertainment, he knows what William did, and now he's moving past him. He's working to get rid of Fazbear Entertainment so that no more will they be able to walk away, scotch free, as if nothing happened. After all, only the weak kill, for they are not able to live earnestly!
Name: The Nightguardian (Jeremy Fitzgerald) Birthday: November 11th, 1971 Died: November 11th, 2001 Voice: Youthful, yet lost and timid. Motive: Avenge himself by seeing William Afton die. Forever. Traits: Brain-damage causes pauses in speech, extremely loyal but clingy, can be startling to some. how to ask: Simply specify you're asking the question to "The Nightguardian" or "The Nightguard's Angel" closest with: ...wait, who the fuck is Mercy? Apparently, she's not an angel, but still, who? hatred of: Nobody despite his motive. abilities: Materialization, invisibility, and (although not perfected) flight. weaknesses/fears: He died to his frontal lobe injury, so he's learning how to walk and talk again. story: The victim of The Bite of '87, he was a nightguard until his death in 2001 caused by his brain slowly dying after his frontal lobe went missing. William could've turned Mangle off. He could've sold her, or even scrap him entirely, and yet he didn't, and now, he too, is restless. Rumour has it that he often appears, trying to help modern-day security guards or just trying to make a friend. Won't you let him help you?
SUPRISE! I LIED! Brian Stells is added as an easter egg, so go ahead and ask him too! (Also because Jeremy Fitzgerald is like a doppelganger of him so...)
Name: Brian Stells! Voice: Brian Stells? Walten Files? Job: BSI Security Guard Traits: I remember seeing a post that says he apoligizes alot so yeahhh... how to ask: He's an easter egg, so just aks him directly! closest with: Nobody (because he doesn't even work here?!) hatred of: ...also... Nobody... he doesn't work here. (Seriously, I think he only knows Jeremy because ofcourse he knows his doppelganger.) note: When I say Jeremy is his doppelganger, I don't LITERALLY mean he's a doppelganger, I instead mean "two people who look eeriely alike, yet are not related what-so-ever." story: Go watch The Walten Files if you wanna ask him stuff.
#mike schmidt#fritz smith#fnaf au#jeremy fitzgerald#i added an easter egg to my ask blog mhehehehehehehe

Word Count: ~600
Warning(s): crime show level of violence / gun violence / mentions of a near-death experience / injuries + including mild description of injuries / blood / hurt+comfortÂ
Prompt:Â patching up a wound + at a crime scene
a/n: This is a submission for @real-janeâ âs healing hands writing challenge! Congratulations on the milestone! 𼳠This drabble was inspired by the previous fic I wrote Conflict of Interest , this is placed around a year or so before the events of that fic happen. However, this is a stand-alone drabble, so you donât need to read the mentioned fic to understand anything, but if you liked the dynamic here, I recommend reading it! 𼰠Thank you for reading! â¤ď¸
â Watch your step.â Detective Barnes had an arm wrapped around your waist, helping you maneuver through a crowd of officers. You were heading over to the back of an ambulance, a bit too shaken to walk on your own. As soon as you sat on the edge of it, his hands inspected the wound on your right shoulder. You held in any protests as the burning sensation worsened.
â So much for my favorite coat.â You took it off, grumbling at the sight of the tear in it.Â
â Thatâs what youâre worried about?â There was a smile of disbelief on his face.
The blouse you were wearing was expectedly torn as well. He sent you a sympathetic look when he cut through it to get to your wound. You couldnât help the tiny gasp that escaped when you laid eyes on it. You finally realized why it felt like it was on fire. A bullet grazed your shoulder, removing a bit of the top layer of skin. The shades of red and pink across the wound assured you it would leave a scar.
â I promise it looks worse than it actually is,â he held your arm up gently,â This might hurt a little, so hold onto me if youâd like,â his tone was so sincere it surprised you. You hadnât known him for long, so you hesitated to accept the comfort you needed. Nevertheless, you appreciated the gesture.Â
He cleaned your wound meticulously, his eyes narrowing in concentration. You bit the inside of your cheek, stopping yourself from wincing. The sudden closeness had you fiddling with the loose threads of your coat that laid across your lap. Your eyes wandered over to his hands that were wrapping a bandage around your arm. This brought your attention to a cut on his index finger. You looked over at the medical kit beside you, searching for a bandaid.
Without thinking, you took a hold of his right hand and placed it on your lap, wiping the blood around his cut with a small gauze pad. You felt his gaze on you as you wrapped the bandaid around his finger.Â
â You know I was the one patching you up, right?â
â Is that your way of thanking me, detective?â
A soft chuckle escaped his lips,â Thank you,â he paused, his smile fading,â Iâm sorry, I shouldnât have made you come. You got hurt because of me.â He couldnât meet your eyes, putting the medical supplies back in their case. You placed your hand on his wrist, grabbing his attention.
â Youâre not putting this on yourself. The suspect said he would have legal representation present, so I chose to come. If it werenât for you, I might not be here right now. So please donât apologize for saving my life.â You recalled the way the suspect drew his gun to shoot you, a memory you knew would haunt you for a while. If it werenât for Detective Barnes reacting quickly, pulling you towards him and out of the line of fire, the bullet wouldâve done more than just graze you.Â
â I know, but I shouldâve checked for any weapons in the househ-â You cut him off with a stern look, reminding him of who he was trying to argue with. He let it go, realizing he was disputing with one of the best prosecutors in New York.Â
â Although, maybe you could do me a little favor and let Prosecutor Romanoff know what happened here today,â you requested with a playful tone. He blew out a breath, shaking his head, an amused expression overtaking his features. â No way. Sheâs your best friend, sheâll go easy on you when you tell her. Sheâll kill me once you do.â You shared a laugh at that, the mood becoming lighter.Â
He finished patching up your wound, the pain diminishing slightly. He held out his hand, helping you off of the ambulance,â Now, how about I go arrest the bastard so you can take him to court?â You smirked,â I like the sound of that.âÂ

i would love to hear more about the mutant crimes division and the soulmates AUs!!!
Thank you so much @ikeracity for the ask. I have already answered an ask about the mutant crimes division here. But I do have plenty to say about my soulmate AU. This is probably the story Iâve been sitting on for the longest time and the one Iâm most interested in writing.Â
Hearts Like Ours (the soulmate AU)
They say that your heart stops beating for one entire minute the first time you meet your soulmate. Erik knows itâs bullshit. He should know, being a cardiothoracic surgeon at one of the most prestigious medical faculties in the city. As it is, Erik doesnât really believe in soul bonds. Heâs perfectly happy with life as it is. He has a secure job, he owns a nice apartment in the West Village where he lives alone with his loyal companion and trusted friend Max, the dark brown German shepherd he saved from the shelter, and can have things just the way he wants without someone nagging him about mundane things like who should do the dishes, or who should do the laundry. Erik is perfectly happy being alone, and unlike the majority of the population, heâs not waiting in the vain hope to find his one true love and soulmate.
Erikâs world takes a sudden, dramatic turn during a double shift when a patient is wheeled into the ER with multibletrauma injuries and a serious head wound after having been hit by a drunk driver during one of New Yorkâs worst snowstorms in years. It takes a single glance, a minor touch of his hand against the patientâs, and two quiet words when Erik feels it. His whole world stops for a minute and he feels his pulse thundering in his ears until it all lurges back into motion. Belatedly, he realizes what has occurred and in his delirium he lurches back as if burned. His vision blurs and he feels the earth shift underneath his feet. Next thing he knows heâs on the floor, surrounded by concerned faces of his co-workers and curious looks from the interns. For a moment he doesnât understand what has happened, but then the lurching realization hits him like a freight train. Heâs been soul bonded and his bonded is being wheeled away from him to surgery. The day couldnât have gotten any worse, that is until the picture of him and his bonded gets splayed on the front page of the New York Post. Not only has he soul bonded, but heâs bonded to Charles Xavier, one of the most respected specialists in neurological science and a professor at Oxford University. Oh, and he also happens to be an heir to one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the states and who has the networth of 3 billion dollars with close ties to the Manhattan elite.
Soon, the whole affair attracts the attention of every media and news outlet in the country, and Erik finds himself in a situation he never wished for in the first place.
The idea for this story came to me when I was working on a morning shift at the hospital and thought: how would someone respond to finding your soulmate but theyâre in critical care at the hospital and you donât know if theyâre even going to wake up? Then I started to think of how our current society would function if everyone had a soulmate. What are the odds of finding your soulmate? How would this affect history, religion, culture? How would this affect the relationships you have with the people around you?
I always wanted to write a Medical AU, so I decided that Erik would be a cardiothoracic surgeon who is taking an extra shift to oversee a patient at the ER with the new medical interns when Alex Summers wheels in a trauma patient. Due to the severe snowstorm, the ER is in chaos. Erik touches the patient to check his vitals when he figures out that the patient who has been rolled into the ER is his soulmate.
Originally Charles was going to be a well-loved Hollywood actor who has made a career of selling the idea of the perfect soulbond. The idea was that Erik would be swept up in a situation he isnât prepared to face. I wanted Erik to see the idea of Charles as he has portrayed himself and experience the complex feelings of watching the public side of Charles and slowly falling for the idea of him against his better judgment. He also has to deal with the media and the tabloids which means that heâs way over his head and doesnât know how to cope with the situation at all. Additionally, Charlesâ lawyers are interfering with Erikâs affairs while Charles is still in a critical condition and canât even speak for himself.
I later decided that I found the idea of Charles being an actor a bit too much for the story and, as I developed the relationships between the characters, I thought it was a better idea that Charles was a professor in neuroscience at Oxford and was attending a conference in New York when the accident occurs. The only thing that made the âactor ideaâ convenient for the storyline is that for a large part of the story Charles is comatose and severely injured. I found it intriguing that Erik would get an impression of Charles as a character before he has any chance to know him personally. However, Charles being a Xavier makes him automatically well known within the upper crust society of Manhattan, and Charlesâ reputation as a serial dating bachelor who spends thousands of dollars on expensive hotel suites and alcohol gives Erik the impression that Charles is nothing but a privileged, naĂŻve rich boy who has no sense of the real hardships of life. This is exactly what Erik feared all along and did not want. Now heâs bonded to a man who has a reputation and Erik is hard pressed to figure out a way to legally separate their bond before he loses his mind. To make things even worse, the media has painted the whole affair as the perfect love story, but the reality is so far from it.

A New Arrangement [Part 1/9]
Part 2 ->
Summary: Left with severe burns all over his body, the vain Dr. Frederick Chilton has retreated from the world, and will not let anybody see his face. One day, he decides to get his affairs in order in case he dies, or nearly dies again. Thatâs when you enter his life.Â
Frederick Chilton x Female Reader
CW: mentions of hospitals, death, end-of-life planning
820 words
An uneasiness swam in your gut as you rang the doorbell of the looming mansion that looked too expensive for you to be touching. It was the centerpiece of a swanky gated community outside of Baltimore and you had come here for one reason.
A man named Frederick Chilton was preparing for his death.
People donât think about how much there is to take care of, from advanced directives, to living wills, estate planning, funerals, calculating life insurance requirements⌠That was what your startup company dealt withâend-of-life planning. You were the one-stop-shop for all of it. A sort of death concierge service.
People assumed from your job that you were compassionate. That your heart was wide open with nurturing and a desire to hug people on the worst day of their life.
The truth is, you were a glorified accountant, and you did not like making home visits. They could get too personal. Too emotional. But this client was very fussy, particular, and most importantly, very wealthy, and he had insisted. He would only do business over the phone, email, and any in-person meetings would be at his home, not your office.
So here you were. At his doorstep. Praying that you wouldnât have to hold anyoneâs hand while they cried.
Or worseâthat he wasnât just some creep luring you out here. This guy was much younger than your usual clients, which either meant he was dying of a tragic terminal illness, or he could afford the sort of lawyers to make murder charges go away, and was maybe stalking you? A string of bad internet dates had you a little paranoid.
So your heart jumped when he opened the door. And then it leaped clear out of your throat when you saw him.
He was wearing a very sharp suit and tie (complete with an old-fashioned gold tie pin), leaning on an audaciously silver-embellished cane, but the thing that made you vomit up your vena cava was the fucking mask.
He was wearing a Venetian masquerade mask that covered his entire face with smooth, sculpted white porcelain. Fine engravings serpentined around the eye sockets, inlaid with silver and black, as if the mask were wearing its own mask.
âNope.â You backed up from the door. âOh no. No way. Sorry, I am not getting dragged into some Eyes Wide Shut thing.â
His eyes, though a bit shadowed, were visible enough to for you to see their dramatic rolling skyward, paired with an equally annoyed sigh. âDo not flatter yourself,â he said tersely. âApparently you do not know who I am?â
âShould I?â You narrowed your eyes. Fuck. You knew you shouldâve googled his name.
âI suppose count myself lucky my misfortune is not so public. Do you recall the Dr. Frederick Chilton who was maimed and set on fire by the Red Dragon last year? It was in the papers. I have a clipping of it framed,â he said dryly. âMy book, The Dragon Slayer was on the New York Times Best Sellers list for ten weeks.â He scoffed when you showed no sign of recognition of him, personally.
âThe DragonâŚâ you nodded. âYeah, I remember that was all over the news. He set you on fire?!â You definitely should have fucking googled him. Now you felt like an asshole.
âGiven the state that maniac left me in, I have the choice to be gawked at for my disfigurement, or for the tedious quirk of wearing a mask. I prefer the latter.â His voice had a slight sort of lisp to it, suggesting the placement of some of his injury. âIronically, being maimed near death is precisely why I contracted your servicesâone can never plan too early when one associates with the criminally insane. Now if you are finished? Believe me, if I wished to engage in an âEyes Wide Shut thing,â I would hire one of the many high-end escorts Baltimore is home to⌠not some drab clerical worker.â
Your eye twitched. You were not insulted the snobby weirdo didnât want to fuck you. That was a good thing. You forced yourself to smile and your jaw creaked like an old wood floor with the effort.
âMore people should be planning ahead proactively, so youâre setting a good example,â you chirped, towing the company line. âAll right, letâs get to work. Sorry about the misunderstanding. Itâs a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Chilton.â You introduced yourself, extending your hand for a professional shake.
He leaped backward, nearly tripping over his cane in the process, as if you were extending a poisonous snake. The mask stayed perfectly calm, but his eyes flashed. âIt is Dr. Chilton. Doctor.â he hissed. âI did not spend eight years in medical school to not have my proper title used.â
âSorryâDoctor Chilton.â
You followed him inside, never in your life more certain you were going to hate somebody.
