Page 13. ---- James Wilson, Whose Cunning Escapes at Napanee Are Being Probed, Said to Be Connected With Widespread Robberies --- GOODS IDENTIFIED IN OSHAWA COURT ---- New exploits of James Wilson, who twice escaped from Napanee Jail within a few weeks and is still at liberty, are being unearthed at Acton, Beaverton, Barrie, and Allandale. his second escape, which took place two weeks ago, was accomplished after he had been brought back from Winnipeg, had been sentenced to 12 years in Kingston Penitentiary and was under a special guard.

He dug his way through the roof his cell and reached a corridor, from which escape was easy by a roof and over a wall with the aid of one of his cot blankets. How he came to get away the second time while a guard was supposed to be on watch is now being investigated by officers of the Provincial Secretary’s Department.

Osborne was committed for trial. A radio stolen from the home of William Scott, a Canadian National Railways conductor at Allandale, and articles taken from the store of J. J. Frise, Brighton, are alleged to have been found in the room used by Osborne. Provincial Police are now engaged in an effort to connect other valuables discovered, with robberies at the home of Fred Cooper, Acton, and stores and dwellings at Newburgh, Barrie and Allandale. The goods stolen at Brighton were valued at $2,000.

A special despatch to The Globe received last evening from Oshawa stated: Committed for Trial ‘John Osborne was committed for trial in Police Court this afternoon by Magistrate Willis on several charges of receiving stolen goods from many points in Ontario. Mrs. H. Gunn, Cellna Street, this city, in whose home Osborne roomed, was acquitted on a similar charge.

‘The Gunn home was searched by Provincial Constable Cargy of Cobourg and Detective Sergeant Filnitoff of the city police force, and a radio and several other articles found in it. Testifying in court here. William Scott, C.N.R. conductor of Allandale and his daughter, Miss Magaret Scott, positively identified the radio as one which been stolen from the their home on the night of Jan. 5. The serial number had been removed from the machine  but a serial number plate found on Osborne’s room proved o investigation, according to the police, to be the one which was on the machine sold to Scott.’

Do You Think Globetrotting Is Just for Rich People? Think Again.

Tina Ricks, a legal editor, and her husband Allen, a nurse, call Beaverton, Oregon, home, but it’s not necessarily where they hang their hats … if they can help it. See, the Ricks family has a taste for travel.

Tina grew up in a family that prioritized worldly adventures. She said, “We went to Europe, for the first time, when I was in the seventh grade—on a blue-collar salary. There were holes in our kitchen linoleum, and the house needed painting, but we went anyway.”

And she and Allen have raised their children the same way. Since 2009, their family has visited Thailand, Hong Kong, Cambodia, England and France. Tina said, “We started traveling internationally when our kids were old enough to pull their own suitcases through an airport. At the time, they were ages ten and 12.

There Was Just One Problem.

… as the stamps on their passports racked up, so did their debt.

Tina said, “Our first few trips were financial disasters. We used the credit card too much and felt frazzled and overstretched when we got home. Then we’d spend months paying off the travel bills. It didn’t feel very good at all.”

Still, seeing the world with their kids remained a top priority. Tina said, “There are too many reasons not to travel, and we try hard not to listen to them … There’ll come a time when we can’t travel anymore. We want to do it now, while we’re healthy.”

To Make It Work, They Turned to YNAB.

Tina said, “Starting in about 2014, and with YNAB, I started funding our travel category and really using YNAB to analyze every expense.”

And she loved it. Tina said, “I used Quicken off and on for years, which gave me great reports about what I’d already done, but it didn’t give me any information about where I wanted to go.”

YNAB helps Tina keep track of where her family spends money so that she can align their travel goals with the reality of their money situation. One of her favorite things about YNAB’s method is Rule Three. She said, “I have the flexibility to move money, say, out of the ‘vet’ category and over to ‘home repair.’ ”

She added, “I feel like I can wrap my head around things better. Financial events like property taxes don’t take me by surprise anymore because we planned ahead.”

Panicking About Money Is a Thing of the Past.

Since they started using YNAB, Tina and Allen have completely paid off their credit cards. She said, “I’m embarrassed at how much we put on cards and how long we kept the balances. We put a giant vet bill on a credit card, once (an artificial knee for our beloved labrador). We were still paying it off after the dog died four years later.”

But, that’s not all. Tina said, “We have a solid plan to pay off our mortgage in 10 years and get our kids through college (so we can travel more, of course!).”

Plus, they’re considering the possibility of retiring within ten years!

That’s the Power of Prioritization.

With a clear view of their entire financial picture, Tina and Allen’s conversations about money have improved. She said, “It’s making us focus more on our hopes and goals, instead of obsessing about how we’re going to pay for a new roof. We talk about that, too, but we do it rationally (not in a panic or anger because we’re surprised).”

And spending decisions have become clearer, too. Tina said, “Travel is something we’re willing to prioritize over a lot of other things … I get books from the library. We make everything last as long as possible. I shop at Goodwill and Value Village.”

Of course, they feel the sacrifices. She said, “There are so many things I’d like to do in our backyard. We have an old cracked patio, no deck (we went to Egypt, instead!). But we’re not doing those things, and the patio will last a while longer.”

And those sacrifices all add up to make their traveling ambitions a reality. Tina said, “We make sure that we get to go somewhere every year—even when the plumbing backs up and all sorts of other stuff happens. That other stuff always happens.”

What Are You Waiting For?

Since they began paying cash for their trips, Tina and Allen enjoy traveling more than they ever could’ve imagined. If you’ve got big ideas and feel too strapped to bring them to life, Tina said, “Get YNAB, and spend a day on the website watching videos and tutorials. Set it up, and do it for a month. Stick with it.”

She added, “We’re not rich. I know we have friends who look at our exotic-seeming travels and think we must have inherited a bundle from somewhere, but we didn’t. It’s all about priorities.”

So today a guy in Portland OR decided to go up to the roof of a building across the street from an elementary school and pull out a gun, waving it around, and fired a shot into the window of a house. Because he could.

God I hate America sometimes.

Police shot him fatally after he fired into a nearby window and refused to put down the gun.

This kinda shit doesn’t HAPPEN in Beaverton. There’s NEVER been a school shooting in the school district. I don’t know why people think it’s okay to pull out a gun across from an elementary school, a high school, and a <i>fuckin daycare</i>, but this bullshit happened today.

2017 Official Beer HOP BERRY IPA

This year we have teamed up with Culmination Brewing, Hotlips Pizza/Soda and Oregon Fruit Products to create "Hop Berry IPA," our official beer of the 2017 Portland Beer Week. Merging a pale, fruity hopped India Pale Ale with Oregon's signature fruit Marionberries has resulted in a drinkable, balanced beer that's equal parts tropical hop and berry with a mild bitterness. We used sexy hop varieties Vic's Secret and Galaxy along with the same natural fruit puree from Oregon Fruit Products that Hotlips uses in their sodas. 

Celebrate the release of the official 2017 Portland Beer Week beer - "Hop Berry IPA" on Friday, June 9th at seven different locations across town. Portland Beer Week and Ecliptic Brewing present the Masters of IPA invitational returns for it's 3rd year with fourteen of the best India Pale Ale brewers from across the country. This years fest will be held outdoors at Ecliptic Brewing with collectible glassware, 4oz and 8oz pours of beer.

Tickets are $10 for a glass and 3 beer tickets. An individual glass is $7, additional drink tickets are $2 each. 4oz pours are 1 ticket, 8oz pours will be 2 tickets.

The NYC Garage successfully merges safety, efficiency, and the functionality of 1,994 parking spaces for employees and visitors with the strength and spirit of competition and athleticism. As a dynamic facility complementing the character of the campus fabric, the garage redefines how people think about parking structures.

Themes of movement and bold ideas are expressed through the garage’s massing. The 840,000-square-foot structure is split into four 60-foot parking bays, with each bay expressed separately from the next and resulting in an undulating roof and end walls.

The massing breaks, highlighted with bright orange metal panels, make the structure appear to be springing forward—emphasizing athletic movement and bringing the facility to a human scale. Part of the central bay is carved out to allow daylight penetration and to create a covered outdoor courtyard for sports activities, community gatherings and special events on campus.

The NYC Garage is artfully themed around the fast pace and “gritty urban” vibe of New York City. Each of the garage’s six levels is branded with super graphics, logos and colors for New York sports teams, all championship winners: the New York Giants, Jets, Knicks, Nets, Yankees, and Mets.

Integrated as a signature space that defines and differentiates the traditional parking structure, the courtyard exudes an urban feel with asphalt paving, cobblestone elements and artist-commissioned graffiti walls, while equipment for basketball, wallball, and futsal infuses the distinct energy of New York City recreation.

The garage’s choice of materials and wayfinding techniques also contribute to themes of movement and athleticism. The cladding is simple, corrugated metal panel with a custom perforation featuring Morse code for the company’s trademark slogan; the code runs diagonally across each façade in four colors in four different positions on a custom aluminum extrusion.

The metal panel siding hides cars from view, and the custom perforation and undulating geometry add movement to the façade while allowing dappled light to penetrate the interior. Linear skylights provide an abundance of additional daylighting and brighten the garage.
