Trinkets Chart for Darkon

I enjoy making trinket charts for DnD. I made this d100 one for my DnD game that's set entirely in Darkon, which I've called The Iron Crown. There's a lot of easter eggs in here, but thought this could be a fun thing to share on a Friday morning while I ignore my actual job.

THOUGHTS WHILE WATCHING GILMORE GIRLS: S3/EP6: TAKE THE DEVILED EGGS (Pt 2) (This One's Gonna Be a Real Rage Inducer) (Lots Of Interesting Development Though) (So many things happening) (Salty Rambles about Jess Mariano's Birthday)

There is something to be said about Luke (on multiple occasions) readily admitting he pays Jess in ketchup packets to toil in the Coffee Mines more or less against his will. I get that it's just a part time job after school...before school..while he's cutting school..always working...never stopping...never reicieving any tips from Lorelai and Rory... Rory needs a job... Rory and Lorelai need to pay for their food... Anyway these comments shed a light on the shaky economies of small businesses in small towns which is interesting to me. Gilmore Girls is really, at it's core, a show about class. One day he could wake up to find his diner has been turned into a Dunkin Donuts (this is Not-Quite-But-Almost-New England after all, where DD is king).

Hahahahaha!! Jess stole money to buy a car and he committs attempted murder! Hahahahaaha! You're SO FUNNY LORELAI GILMORE. Your daughter stole a boat.

Yeah. And maybe back home, he did had to steal to survive sometimes. How about them apples, Lorelai Gilmore. God, do I loathe her.

Don't say that around Lorelai, I think she'd believe you were being serious.

A couple of the moots and I recently decided that in the recent past, Liz managed to land and then lose a halfway decent boyfriend/ father figure to Jess who had a car and taught Jess to drive and do repairs and some other light adulting. I honestly feel like this is the only thing that makes sense.

HE LOOKS SO GOOD IN THIS SCENE!!! Fuck meeee. Look at that li'l curl...

LOOK AT IT!!!! You know what, I'm calling it. I'm putting my foot down. This is the hottest Milo had ever looked in the entirety of seasons 2 and 3. It's that perfectly gelled hair, the jean jacket, the cool tshirt. Very James Dean. Woof. Let's see, what would I choose for second place? I have to go with the party scene in KegMax, another episode with impeccably jelled hair and a jean jacket (and even while he was apparently sick shooting that episode too). He just progresses in hotness the further season 3 marches on.

These four words "I'm still a minor" are a point of contention for me in the ongoing debate about his birth month. My beliefs: Jess is a Virgo. He was born in August or early September. This would make him just older than Rory by just a smidge. Since well over a year has passed in the show since the episode he arrived in Stars Hollow as a 17 year old (when he arrived, it was early September as Rory had just started school in that episode), he had just celebrated his birthday before arriving and so he has to have already turned 18 by this episode. However, I will consider the theory that Luke was clueless or misinformed about his age at the time he arrived (because it's not like LIz is in any way reliable with information) and he was actually 16 going on 17 when he hopped off the bus last year, and maybe he has an October or November birthday making him slightly younger than Rory. It would make sense that both missed the kindergarten cut off dates in 1989 at their respective schools (which is rock solid canon already for Rory, as she was born in October 84 but graduated in 03 instead of 02), putting them in the same grade.

Salty has put a pathetic amount of thought into this. So, how can I accept this statemen? I attribute it to the same brand of biting sarcasm that gave us "I mugged an old lady" moments ago and also because this scene doesn't make a whole lot of sense to begin with. He's still a minor, but he got his own insurance all by himself under his own name, which is not really a thing, but not his own car registration? Committing insurance fraud perhaps? Sketchy insurance company that didn't ask too many questions? He knows a guy who knows a guy who can print up some fake documents? At that point why not go all the way with the white collar crimes and forge Luke's signature on the registration too? See, Lorelai thinks Jess is a thief and murderer when he's really a white collar criminal like Taylor Doose.

My memory was certain that he produced a cigarrette and not a pen in this scene. I had to edit this post to remove a line about him smoking. I guess I confused it with the Then She Appears/ Cmurrh kissing scene, where he's also wearing a jean jacket with a popped collar. Damn. I can't wait for that scene...

Just some light fraud. If the car belonged to someone in Stars Hollow, whoever's registration he stole probably deserved it anyway. This is how I approach all "Crimes" Jess commits in Stars Hollow. There are only a few people who don't deserve it. Your honor, my client is innocent.

Oh no, the couch of doom. No good conversations ever happens between Rory and Lorelai on the couch, especially after one of them comes home at night and finds the other one on the couch. The Gilmores recieve an invitation to Sherry's baby shower. The moots and I have determined that Doula and Gigi will eventually band together to form the most powerful duo of neglected half sisters the world has ever seen. For the record, today Doula would be 17 and Gigi would be 21. Since Jess eventually comes to adopt and raises Doula she has a somewhat decent chance of coming out a well adjusted adult. At the very least, if she was stuck with TJ and Liz, Jess would still be a positive influence on her life, visit her and look out for her and make sure she didn't get sucked into any cults. The odds are a lot more grim for Gigi with Crusty and Sherry as her forever "parents" and let's face it, very likely her relationship with big sister Rory or any of the other Gilmores is non existent.

And things were so peaceful. Especially since Dean hasn't reared his ugly head in the last two episodes, either.

You flip flop with Crusty so much how can anyone possibly keep track of whether you're on the outs with him or banging him at any given time?

And by saying that out loud you're gonna tip the balance of the universe and he's going to show up. I looked ahead and although this is sadly still a Crusty-Focused episode, he doesn't actually make an appearance. Small blessings. To Lorelai's surprise, Rory admits that she's been in contact with Crusty and Lorelai is okay with it but upset that Rory was hiding it from her. God, he's such a parasite.

Emails. How quaint.

Highly debatable.

The creator, Ladd Ehlinger is a virulently racist and misogynistic conservative who thinks feeding school kids is the same thing as slavery.

26:23-26:31 has his brain flashing and shaking as the camera zooms in on his neurons with dial-up noises playing until

27:20-32:10 a white light strobes across the screen starting at 15 seconds apart, then strobing when the king of Lineland demands A. Square prove what he's saying. All the while the people of Lineland light up whenever they speak. This scene ends with A. Square being peirced through the eye by the King of Lineland, and spinning rapidly until he wakes up in bed with his kids yelling.

38:10-16 has A. Square zipping through the marketplace so the talls go by in a blurry flash at the top and bottom of the screen.

46:09-46:25 The camera starts rapidly spinning to follow President Circle as he spins.

50:37-50:50 the camera spins and A. Square flashes white as A. Sphere pokes in repeatedly in the stomach from the 3rd Dimension. A Square is screaming during this.

1:11:55-1:13:28 The camera spins as other characters enter enter the room, then as they descend in the elevator. Lights then flash as they fly and enter the room with flash photography.

1:13:28-1:19:15 Constant flahing light from endless flash photogragy at all time, plus the camera pinning. A. Square becomes incresingly more sicker from the force of gravity and falls over.

1:19:22-1:19:45 We zoom in on A. Square's spinning and glitching eye as the background swirls and spins.

1:20:40-1:21:46 Red lights flash as ships fire on eachother in the sky with lazers.

1:21:46 The screen flashes white as a bomb is dropped, and we see A Sphere's insides against the white background.

1:31:49-1:32:07 One of A Sphere's eyes pops out and the camera starts to spin.

1:34:24-1:34:47 The camera spazzes out and swirls around absurdly fast as A Square's wife roars to knock out all the guards.

1:35:38-1:36:01 The screen shakes as a smaller bomb goes off, then triangles in flashing colors stream past.

Edit August 20 2024: Ladd Ehlinger, the creator of the 2007 Flatland film, is disgustingly fucking racist and misogynistic. He is literally a proud conservative.

He made a political ad in 2011 that's literally so blatantly racist and misogynistic that youtube has literally restricted it so you literally cannot share the link outside of youtube.

Because it's that blatantly fucking bigoted. I wish I could say I'm shocked but considering how terribly the 2007 film handles the themes of the original novel, I'm not surprised in the least.

The ad literally has Black men chanting, "give me your cash bitch so we can shoot up the street", while a white woman, with the face of the politician the add is against photoshopped over her, pole dances as a sex worker

Here is a pic of myself (accordion), my sister Lilly Cart (bodrhan), and my 3rd cousin Heather MacIsaac performing a concert of Irish songs and tunes at the Antigonish Heritage Museum, the former train station in my hometown. The acoustics are great in this space and there was a full crowd. Volunteers from the Heritage Association provided tea, juice, and snacks for the attendees. We did a number of sing - alongs and there were lots of moments when the crowd joined us on beautiful choruses. A great time! "

"Seven months, I only have to survive the next seven months to graduate." I thought to myself as I entered General Hospital. "Good afternoon, how may I assist you?" The reception questioned as I approached her after security check. "I came to visit my mother, Mrs. Cole, she's in the ICU." The lady did some research before asking for my identification and marking me with a band to resume my venture to my mother's room.

Adjusting my bag on my back, I went into the elevator, severely anxious at which button to press after accidentally ending up at a morgue or basement with my sister.

The nurses greeted me since I am now recognized as a familiar face, it's been almost two years of consistent admission into the hospital for my mom. This time it became more serious, her heart began failing her, and she sensitivity to everything heightened.

"Mommy?" I tapped her softly and heard a lil groan as she awoke from her sleep. She opened her eyes and gave it a minute to adjust as she pushed through the pain to send me a small smile. "Hey baby, did you catch the bus?" I nodded as we spoke for a bit and she eat the food I bought.

This was a daily routine. Wake up at 6am and begin to get dressed for school, head out to catch an early bus to prevent being late due to traffic, catch a bus to the hospital and stay until visiting hours are overing and between the time of arriving and visiting hours ending, my older sister should be at the hospital to visit mom and drop both me home.

"Mommyyy" I heard my older sister behind me as she entered the room with a bag filled with juice, snacks and new cotton pajamas. She hugged our mom and gave her a kiss before sitting in the other guest chair. "Did Trevor come see you yet?" My sister, Kurstin asked mom about our brother, who is a registered nurse. "He been here, bathed and changed me. He had to go back on his post."

A hour remained before visiting hours over and once it arrived, we were forced to leave. "How was school?" Kurstin asked and I nodded as I watched the starry skies as she drove "Good." Silence filled the car, but the music kept it alive and I sigh quietly; I didn't dare turn my head away from the glass as gears stained my cheeks. "she's going to be okay." I heard my sister reassurance and nodded and once again silence. "You want KFC?" She asked and I chuckled a bit. "Sure, thanks."

She dropped me home and ran inside to the bathroom to freshen up; Her second job starts at 8PM and it's currently 7:45 after our food stop. "So, you know the drill. All windows closed, doors locked and be visualant. Trevor is working overtime and I have a graveyard shift tonight at the hotel. Be safe!!" She exclaimed as she ran out but turned around quickly "if you want to invite one of your friends over to keep you company, I won't tell." She winked and left again as I closed and dead locked the front door.

As she reminded, I checked all doors and windows ensuring they are tightly sealed. "We really should get cameras for this place." I spoke to myself as i entered my mom's bedroom. My heart became heavy and it was the result of numerous reasons. The large photo of my parents wedding hung over her king size bed, and the silence that engulfed the house both were a factor. I sat on the bed laying a towel infront of me to rest my food upon as I attempted to find a show or movie to watch. "comedy" I read the information on the movie and began to watch it.

It was a classic comedy, white chicks, two black dudes dressed as white women were peak early 2000s.

Despite the humor of the movie, the internal heaviness never ceased and unintentionally tears ran down my face again. I think I understand why I feel this way. "Is this what loneliness feels like?" I asked myself in a pity whisper as my appetite suddenly collapse.

It was a mixture of worry, anxiety, hurt and loneliness. She dreads the five business days that results in her attending seven to eight classes every hour to two hours. She hated her 6AM to 7:30PM schedule, and she felt guilty for hating it, this lifestyle was no one's fault. It's a trial in a turbulent world.

Amara rotated between her phone, reading social media gossip and searching through the television for an interesting show. "Oh my gosh, I remember this movie!" She squealed to herself as the teen nick original movies aired back to back. She missed drumline and the school gyrls franchise but she sat up as the movie 'The Wonder Girls" began. Despite being only seventeen, the movie gave her nostalgia to a happier time. Her remembrance of the songs, be my baby, the dj is mine and more that she remembers jamming to after researching them at age twelve.

And just like that, Amara, welcome to the world of Kpop.

She digest and digress as she became intrigued into the musical culture. "Bang bang bang" the music blasted through her speakers as the hit song from big bang played. She moved onto the next and the next, unknowingly becoming a VIP. In the hour time span, she had discovereed BigBang, SHINee, Girls Generation and Exo. However, she came across a recent performance from a band she hadn't exposed herself to yet.

"Kpop band, BTS makes a comeback" The title detailed and she clicked on the video which both figuratively and literally changed her life.

let me recap the utter failure that was my morning. I wake up at 5:15. slowly get out of bed and start getting ready. between then and 5:45 I see the train I was going to take has minor delays, I’m like cool I can still make it cos it’s only a 30 minute journey and my train is at 7:35. right? WRONG. check again 5 minutes later it’s upgraded to severe delays and part suspension!!!! quick thinking I’m like FINE I’ll take the OTHER line which would be an HOUR but still fine I’ll reach w plenty of time. I HEAD OUT !!!! AS I AM ON THE BUS TO THE OTHER STATION NEAR MY HOME THIS LINE IS ALSO FACING PART SUSPENSION !!!! I’m like FINE FINE FINE I’ll change trains at an earlier station it might even be quicker

ONE BLOODY STOP AWAY FROM THE ONE I NEED THE TRAIN IS STOPPED AND THE DRIVER IS LIKE THERES SEVERE DELAYS WE WONT BE MOVING FOR A WHILE !!!!! it is now 6:45. he says it might be easier to exit this station and walk to one 5 mins away which has a different line. I get off. walk to the new station. bear in mind this one isn’t direct to where I need to be either. but I’m like it’s okay I can get there. I change trains and I make it to King’s Cross at 7:30 !!!!!! BUT THIS STATION IS A MAZE AND I HAVE TO GO UP SOOOOO MANY STAIRS AND ESCALATORS

I make it in time for 7:35 just to watch my train drive away 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 the whole time I wasn’t even anxious I actually felt like I was being stopped from getting the train for a reason shdjsjsj

but it was so funny I went up to a guy who worked there breathing so heavily and like DID I MISS THE 7:35 TRAIN 😭😭😭 and he’s like it’s literally just departing….. and I just stared at it slowly go…..

but it’s fine he laughed and let me take the 8:03 train and told me to go get myself a drink but good god what a JOURNEY I feel like I died about 7 times

Graphic novel: "Sleeping Beauties: Deluxe Remastered Edition" by Owen & Stephen King (2024-09-03)

I've seen stories where all of one gender die out or disappear, or where women suddenly GAIN power, but this is the first time I've encountered a book where the entire fem populace is rendered inert. The sleeping sickness, Aurora, makes any woman (and that means anyone whom identifies as a woman, so trans women included and trans men excluded) who falls asleep STAY asleep. A chilling concept, all women being unable to react to the actions of men.

And I think the only reason this story doesn't devolve into constant sexual violation is because sleeping women are covered in a cocoon, which, if torn, wakes the woman to a zombie-like, homicidal rage, which only ends when the one who disturbs her is killed, or she herself dies. That said, there is still an instance of sexual violence early in the book, so check your trigger warnings. Also, the absence of sexual violence against the sleeping women does NOT mean an absence of violence, and on a large scale.

Now, a bit more of review here, before I get into spoilers, because I'm really up for speculating in a little bit.

Plot. Oh, this FEELS like a Stephen King story. A very intriguing setup, and then a need to explain. King rarely lets things just HAPPEN, there's got to be a bigger plan. The characters aren't moving the plot so much as it moves them. Someone may go rogue for a bit, but then something else interferes and keeps things as going as King intended. Not sure if Owen King has the same habits, but I wish he brought in a bit LESS mysticism.

Art. Incredible background detail, not a bit of space is wasted. I wish more time was spent on the characters, though. It can sometimes be hard to tell the characters apart, and I think that's due to style. There's an attempt at high realism, which reminds me of rotoscoping. Which leads to a lot of weird face shapes, especially around the eyes. Pudgier faces squish and distort, but not in a way that LOOKS natural. While the artist no doubt did a lot of facial studies to get this right,

There's also a good bit of extra content here, though it's mostly just production notes. Nothing that expands on the story, just explains the creative process, and mostly the artists' process. If you've got the original 2-volume release, you likely don't need the remaster.

Now, spoilers.

With typical Stephen King mysticism, we also get to explore the life of some of the sleeping women, who live at accelerated time in an alternate version of their town, Dooling. It's not a perfect utopia, but the implication is that they could get damn close, without the influence of men. However, shortly after the birth of the first (and only) child in this realm, the women are given a choice: stay in the alternate Dooling, and bring all the sleeping women of the world into this new realm, or ALL return to the "real" world, allowing all women to wake up.

Now, big spoilers, they return, our world moves on. But I'd LOVE to see an alternate ending to this book, where we see how life moves on for the split species. After all, the book specified that trans people go with their lived gender, and we know in the real world that trans men sometimes carry children and trans women sometimes provide gametes to conceive children. Both populations could go on. How would they differ? Fascinating.

Man. Now I gotta see if there's good fanfic. I'm just left...wanting.
