Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty - so, back in December 2020, CD Projekt RED released Cyberpunk 2077 in a state that could be, very mildly, describe as "troubled." Still I, like so many others, played and enjoyed it just fine on the good old PS4, even as it indeed suffered from occassionally hideous frame rate, glitches and a tendency to just crash. It was like I was gaming on my old, shitty PC back in the 90! Anywyay, three years later we now have Cyberpunk 2077's first - and only - piece of DLC, not to mention in a slew of updates leading to Cyberpunk 2077 version... 2.1. Also, I'm playing it on the Xbox Series S now because the DLC is not available for the PS4. And just as well!

First off, the 2.1 update does smooth the game experience somewhat. For instance, the entire leveling system has been streamlined, with web of incremental boosts that was the perk system being tied to your main six stats and redesigned to fit different play styles. Meanwhile armour has been tied to your cyberware, rather than your gear, meaning you can dress your avatar as you see fit while worrying that you don't have enough cash and components through which to upgrade your, well, upgrades. It's neat! I also think the gunplay has been improved just a smidge - it's no Doom, but fun enough - and you can even mount weapons on cars! Too bad that the handling of most vehicles remains as slippery as ever, you'd think Night City's streets are coated with a layer of grease on a nightly basis. Anyway.

But heading to Phantom Liberty itself, what we have here is a tight narrative package that's accessible around one-third into the main campaign. It's mainly set in a new, walled-off area of NC dubbed Dog Town. There's some narrative guff about how it was occupied by a warlord during some conflict or another, but what you really need to know is that it's yet another chunk of luxury real estate that's now occupied by the poor and downtrodden. Dog Town feels smaller in terms of sheer size compared to NC's other districts, but it is definitely more dense, with makeshift scaffolding snaking around half-built tower blocks that you can fully clamber on and explore, should you feel like it. The streets are also much narrower, meaning that if you're to drive around then your best choice of vehicle is the hilariously tiny two-seater jeep a generous patron hands you early on in this new adventure.

And what an adventure! What we have here is some of CDPR's best in terms of both narrative and mission design, as the game smoothly shifts genre from pitch-black noir to espionage. There's a literally explosive opening that has you rescue the president of the NUSA from her crashed space plane, one of the toughest choices I've ever had to face in a videogame and, spoilers here, little chance for a happy ending. Good thing you can cheer yourself up with the sillier side missions that will have you do things such as help a pair of idiots convince a Brain Dance star to do a performance at their shop or impersonate a legendary Colombian assassin in order to affect Dog Town politics. It's all very good stuff, but...

...Too bad the game still has a hideous tendency to crash at all the inopportune moments, and there's a bug where the game gets stuck as it autosaves ahead of major scripted moments, necessitating your quitting and restarting. The frame rate might be massively improved and the visuals are generally very pretty, but the PC gaming during the 90s feeling remains as strong as ever.

I wanted to write about a dear friend of mine back in college. I'll call her 'G' for discretion. This is gonna be a long, melancholic story, and I don't normally expect anyone to read this sort of thing, so I appreciate if you read it. Here it goes...

G and I first met in our second year of college. We were batchmates in psychology. At first, I was hesitant to get to know her and initiate a conversation because she was very much bonded with her own set of friends (who eventually became my friends too). What's funny is that we did not talk to each other that much or hung out in the first year we've known each other. The only times we would do so is when we would bump into each other at school, or if she would show up to have lunch with mutual friends of ours. But I do recall a lot of instances that helped facilitate what we called a friendship.

Whenever I would hang out with G and our friends, I couldn't help but notice how she and I have a similar vibe. We both have similar music tastes, we both like talking about anything and everything under the sun, and we deem ourselves to be part of a "street-smart minority" in our department. (Trust me, there's a lot of rich kids in that public school.) We often shared our personal stories and eventually became comfortable sharing even our deepest personal troubles and insecurities.

One of my favorite memories happened on what seemed to be a mundane day. When she and I got grouped together for a major project for our Abnormal Psychology class (along with another close musician friend of mine), we often spent time talking about it both online or after school on some days. On one day, I asked her to join me in grabbing some coffee and a snack in a Starbucks just one jeep ride away from school. When we got there, we talked about the usual non-school stuff - music, attractive boys, life plans. She and I eventually discovered new things about ourselves. And from that moment on, I treated her as a very good friend of mine.

Fast forward to a couple months later, something horrible happened. For sensitive reasons - and out of respect for her - I'll only share this much: Her loved one died. But, not in the just way, if you know what I mean. It stunned me and fellow friends of hers. And I could only imagine the pain, anger, and grief she felt when that happened. It was the middle of the semester when it happened and we could not help but be worried for her. The days following were perhaps the whirlwind of her life. Me and my friends planned, met up, and attended the funeral. When we got there, we were cautiously optimistic to see that she seemed to smile somehow. Of course, it may be because she was comforted to see us being there for her.

We could not tell much how it has also impacted her academics. But from what I remember, she would still show up to the classes we were both in. But, I never bothered prying into her performance. She was still usually around when we would have our after-school hangouts, especially since she was staying in a dormitory just nearby. We often would invite her out, mostly because we hate the thought of her being alone.

One time, we tried going out for drinks with our usual barkada. When we found ourselves disappointed because all the nearby bars were full, we simply decided to just bring the party "home" and crash at our friend's place with drinks from 7Eleven. She was also living close by G's. G and I spent the night with some laughs, games, and heartfelt stories, but we never bothered bringing up her current well-being - at least directly. It was late into the Friday night, and I personally was enjoying myself, so I felt motivated to stay the night. I had to let my mom know that I wasn't coming home that night, but I needed an excuse that she'll feel comfortable with. I took the phone call just outside the apartment room, by the elevators where it's quiet. G decided to join me there. I was struggling to find out any reason she'll be comfortable with so I just decided to tell her the truth until-- G gestured, pointing to herself. She was mouthing, "Say it's because of me." I was hesitant at first, but I eventually did when she insisted that she talk to my mom. It was nonetheless true anyway.

That moment boggled me, not because it was not planned, but because of her initiative. Even if I wasn't keen on going home that night, I was surprised she was willing to suggest that I state her as my reason, knowing how much it is sensitive to her. I thanked her for it, albeit bashfully. "Hindi mo naman kailangang gawin 'yon for me," I said. "Okay lang, ano ka ba?! Totoo naman e," she retorted with a smile. The smile. It was sweet and sincere. And in my mind, I was worried about the underlying pain she was feeling. But I just took her word for it. The night went out with happy moments still. We all slept in and decided to go home in the morning next day. Those months were a pinnacle of our college friendship. And I was happy to at least give her even the slightest bits of comfort, along with many other people who love her just as much.

Our friendship continued on until after I graduated in 2018. G had to drop a few classes, which was a telltale sign at that point that she was struggling academically for very obvious, valid reasons. But even if I left college, we considered each other as close friends. We would still see each other, but only less frequently, especially when I'm around school for certain business or special events in my college org.

My last memory of hanging out with her was back in 2019. It was her younger sister's birthday, so G treated her and invited us to a bar we were all too familiar with back in college. It was a fun night! Dancing. Booze. Music. I was even happy to see her smile again and be celebratory. Afterwards, we kept online communications, but only minimally since she and I had our own things to worry about. I was busy with my job and she was focused on getting herself back on track and finishing school.

Eventually, our exchanges became short. Even if I teased her casually about me visiting her province for a vacation, she didn't seem to respond to me anymore. "She's busy," I thought. And it sort of got out of my habit to check in on her after several ignored messages. It didn't make me mad or anything, but a little bit concerned. I just continued using the same rational I had in my mind.

Fast forward to May 2020, around the time when the pandemic had just started. There came a time that I was constantly worried about my friends and miss them very much. So day after day I checked in on my closest friends. G was one of them. The only surprising thing was that she still ignored me and it left me worried even more. Weeks have passed without a reply and I rechecked her social media account and--

I was unfriended.

I couldn't search for her account anymore in Facebook. She unfollowed and removed me from her following list in Instagram. And I couldn't message her accounts anymore. I was heartbroken - but still, not mad. In a hurry, I messaged all of our friends who were close to her. We all shared the same connection to her at that point: unfriended, unfollowed, and disconnected.

My friends and I spoke to each other briefly afterwards, hypothesizing what could have happened, and why she did that. We were left to speculate that perhaps it was in her darkest times that we were around that possibly associated us to one of her biggest moments of pain. Regardless if that is rational or not, it didn't bother me. In fact, it was my only way to reason things out.

Again, I'm not mad... but just sad. The source of comfort my friends and I shared was the idea that she was doing things for herself, and we trust her judgment. We respect her person, and love her still. When I found the opportunity to message her (since I saw the option was available again), I took the liberty to write a simple message stating what we discovered, and that we support and love her still.

And quite recently, with the surge of cases of COVID-19, I couldn't help but fall back to a state of worry for my loved ones, especially my friends. I may not be the biggest personality to most of them, but my kind of love is when life hits us all the hardest. I'm a natural worrier, so to speak. Even if I don't let my worries get the best of me, I know that they are still of use.

With optimism, I hope G realizes this as well. I hope she is doing well and keeping safe. And I hope she doesn't love us any less, because we don't. This sounds too dramatic, but we'll always love her anyway. While the odds of her reaching out again seem low, I still hold on to that small chance that we'll be speaking to each other again. Until then, I'll pick up the remaining pieces of this burned bridge and keep moving forward.

It was a week full of family reunions as Felix Westwood, Father of Mitchell, Toby and Celeste arrived in the village, whilst Sienna and the twins also landed back in Chester to be reunited with Warren. Keen to bring his family together, Walter organised a meal, and was delighted when each of his grandchildren agreed to attend. Unfortunately, Toby and Celeste hadn’t given up their quest for revenge and Celeste created an argument between Walter and Mitchell over his relationship with Scott. As Mitchell was about to storm out, he was met at the door by Felix, who was soon introduced to him as his Father...

Felix was barley in the door before he received a slap from Martine, whilst Toby and Celeste quickly hounded him for answers. Although Felix tried to explain himself, it soon became apparent that no one wanted anything to do with him. As Felix left the Deveraux’s, he came face to face with Warren, and it’s clear there’s some serious beef between the two men, as Felix received his second battering of the episode. The following day, Felix turned up at the Hutchinson’s to see Mitchell and offered to take him out once Mitchell had finished work. Mitchell was unsure but Scott encouraged him to give his Dad a chance. Mitchell and Scott were bowled over when Felix turned up with a bright pink jeep! However, things quickly turned sour when Mitchell realised that Felix had stollen the car.

Meanwhile, there was embarrassment for Liberty when she accidentally revealed her feelings for Brody via the medium of song during a concert on the Loveboat. As a humiliated Liberty ran off stage, Brody chased after and suggested they give a relationship a try, just as Sienna and Sophie returned. Sienna was in no mood to give the pair a chance to explain and revealed that she was back in Chester as the hospital had found a donor for Sebastian. It didn’t take long for Warren to discover that that Sienna and the twins were back and turned up at the flat. After opening up to his ex about his traumatic childhood, Warren and Sienna seemed to reach an understanding, and the pair agreed to put their differences behind them for the sake of the twins. As the family gathered at the hospital to await news of Sebastian, Liberty tried desperately to get through to Sienna about how much she and Brody loved her. The sisters were soon reunited, but there was soon some bad news about baby Sebastian...

In other news this week, confused by Juliet’s aloof attitude, Sid organised a weekend away for them whilst Mercedes and Sylver agreed not to get divorced, much to the delight of Bobby. Finally, Yaz offered to look after Steph whilst Tom gave a speech at an eco conference in Manchester. However, it’s a decision she may well live to regret as Tom presented her with the 200 page manual that comes with his daughter. Is Steph a child or an Ikea flat pack?

JEEP CHEROKEE 2020: 10 THINGS TO KNOW

Slightly redesigned in 2019, the Cherokee remains a popular Jeep. If we notice especially the Wrangler on our roads, without roof, without doors and sometimes even without shoes in the driver’s feet, the Cherokee is fighting hard not to fall off the podium. Add to that a pedigree that isn’t worm-eaten and you have a recipe for success that even 10 things to know don’t fully explain. But you can always try…

1 Once upon a time

When the United States entered World War II, it decreed that it would need a compact all-terrain vehicle. Two companies raise their hands: American Bantam and Willys-Overland.

The army considered the BRC (Bantam Reconnaissance Car) prototype interesting but it did not have enough torque and the military doubted that the company would be able to provide the required quantity. They then passed on the Bantam design to Willys and Ford, asking them to do better. Their prototypes: the Ford GP and the Willys MA. When a Willys engineer finally slipped a powerful “Go Devil” under the hood, the Willys Model MB won the day.

In production, the army put Willys and Ford to work, while Bantam, after a few units, moved on. The result was the Model MB and the Ford GPW (for Government, P stands for the 80″ wheelbase, and W is a salute to Willys’ design).

2 We are still looking for

Where does the word Jeep come from? As the manufacturer himself avoids clarifying the question, no doubt to thicken the mystery, the suppositions rain down. For some, the name refers to Eugene the Jeep, a comic book animal linked to Popeye and Olive Oyl. He was magical, able to “move anywhere and do anything”, just the pretensions of a Jeep. In short, teleportation before its time!

For others, the name derives from the Ford GPW, although the meaning “General Purpose” of GP is disputed.

3 What kind ?

By the way, should we say a Jeep or a Jeep? On its website www.jeep.ca, Chrysler describes the Jeep Cherokee, no doubt because it goes straight ahead, goes through everything, is not afraid of anything; in short, it’s manly! 5 The waltz of the owners

The CJ gives the starting signal for an avalanche of by-products: the Jeep Station Wagon (1946), the Jeep Truck (1947), the ancestor of the Gladiator, the Jeepster (1948). In 1953, Kaiser Motors bought Willys, which became Kaiser-Jeep in 1963. American Motors Corporation (AMC) acquired Kaiser’s Jeep division in 1970. Renault begins to invest in AMC in 1979 before Chrysler Corporation buys AMC in 1987, essentially to get its hands on Jeep (Chrysler will drop all other AMC activities).

6 Follow the guide!

At www.jeep.ca to shop for your Cherokee 2020, you will find nine models. Actually, there are six and three packages (North Altitude, Trailhawk Elite and High Altitude). The six versions are Sport, North, Trailhawk, Limited and Overland. Uh, Mr. Columnist, that makes five… The North splits up, as it can be had in 4×4 and 4×2, the only model in the family to be satisfied with front-wheel drive if that’s what you want.

All other versions come standard with all-wheel drive, but it’s not even that simple yet. There are, in fact, three kinds of 4x4s for the Cherokee…

For Sport 4×4, there’s no choice, it inherits the Active Drive I system. The North, Limited and Overland variants come standard with Active Drive I but can be upgraded to the optional Active Drive II. Finally, the Trailhawk comes with Active Drive Lock, a system exclusive to the Trailhawk.

7 Him or him?

Let me guess your next question: what are the differences between these three 4x4s? The Active Drive I is not a constant drive, like Subaru for example. Rather, it allows the rear axle to be uncoupled if electronic sensors judge that road conditions do not require all-wheel drive. You then drive in 4×2 mode to save fuel. The system reverts back to 4×4 whenever necessary, without driver intervention.

Active Drive II adds low speed all-wheel drive, which locks the driveshafts on demand to ensure you’re all-wheel drive. It’s great for getting out of a rut or for towing. Plus, Cherokee’s ground clearance with Active Drive II increases by 1″ (2.5 cm).

Finally, the Active Drive Lock system uses the capabilities of the Drive II and allows the rear differential to lock, which sends equal torque to each of its wheels. For serious off-road enthusiasts.

8 Trio of mills

In addition to the two well-known engines, the 271-hp 3.2L V6, a washed-down version of the 3.6L Pentastar, and the 184-hp 2.4L Tigershark 4-cylinder, FCA recently added a 2.0L, 270-hp, turbocharged 4-cylinder that’s more expensive than the V6 and similar to the one that rumbles under the bonnets of the Wrangler and Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio.

This trio of machines is backed by a 9-speed automatic transmission in place since 2014, which was groundbreaking, but has since come in for criticism because of its frequent hesitations.

Finally, although the base 2.4L can only tow 2000 lbs, the V6 manages with 4500 lbs (2041 kg), 500 lbs more than the turbo.

9 A forerunner

The Cherokee’s career began in 1974 as a 2-door version of the Jeep Wagoneer (1962 to 1991), while ousting the disappointing Jeepster Commando. The 4-door version of the Cherokee was born in 1977. To appeal to a younger customer base than the venerable Wagoneer, marketing gurus coined an expression to define the newcomer: Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). These three words have never left our automotive lexicon!

10 A long C.V.

To underline its 2nd generation (1984), the Cherokee abandons ladder construction in favour of a monocoque body, another first. The public loved this idea, which gave the comfort of a car to a “truck”. Rivals take notes.

The Cherokee’s popularity is such that when the time comes for the 3rd generation (2002 vintage), Chrysler launches the Grand Cherokee while its famous little brother becomes the Liberty in North America (but keeps the Cherokee name elsewhere in the world). Then begins its period of compact SUVs, until the Compass/Patriot duo makes it into the even smaller one in 2007.

A year later, the fourth generation was greeted, still under the Liberty name, while Dodge entered the fray with a twin brother named Nitro.

With the 5th generation (2014) begins the crossover period: the Liberty name is retired, the Cherokee name is revived and the vehicle is slightly enlarged to justify the arrival of the Jeep Renegade.

Authorities shoot and kill 28-year-old man suspected of stealing gun in Liberty, shooting employee at Independence car dealership

LIBERTY, Mo. — Clay County Sheriff’s Office confirms to FOX4 that a 28-year-old man is dead following a crime spree Thursday morning.

According to authorities, the man first stole a gun from Academy Sports + Outdoors in Liberty, Missouri. This incident happened before 11:30 a.m.

No shots were fired and no one was injured.

The sheriff’s office said after stealing a gun, the suspect drove to Independence where an employee at Landmark Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM was shot.

Independence police said the man was a customer, and they are not sure whether he had previous interaction with the employee.

The dealership is along Noland Road near Rankin.

2020 Acura NSX

Let’s start with possibly the biggest surprise of them all. The Acura NSX, Acura’s range-topping hybrid supercar is American-designed and American-made. The NSX is built at Acura’s specially designed Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Marysville, Ohio. There, a number of specialized technicians move the unfinished cars around the plant on carts—no assembly lines here—and most of the work is done by hand.

The Jeep NSG370, a six-speed manual transmission, is a unit frequently rebuilt and sold by ZBAG. This transmission was introduced in 2004 during the era of Chrysler’s association with Daimler.

The NSG370 was first installed in the Dodge Crossfire, which shares the platform with the Mercedes Benz SLK320. This manual transmission was the first six-speed to be used in a Jeep, and was used in the Liberty and the Wrangler for several years, beginning in 2005 ending in 2010 in the Wrangler

This unit is equipped with a top shifter and contains a longitudinally loaded transmission with fully synchronized gears. The six speeds include a fifth gear that is direct drive and a sixth gear with overdrive. An integral throw out sleeve is located on the front bearing retainer for a conventional throw out bearing.

This manual transmission’s input torque capacity is 272 ft. lbs. according to the manufacturer, and output torque limits are 1100 to 1300 ft. lbs., making it a good fit for pairing with the NP231 and NP241 transfer cases, which the unit is commonly used with. The Jeep/Dodge six-bolt transfer case mounting design that is used is compatible with many other New Process/New Venture transfer cases. If you are looking to convert to a 6-speed manual transmission, kits are readily available from other manufactures for use with Chevy and GM Gen. III, and small block V6 and V8 engines and conversions can be easily done. Caution: Only the transmissions used with the 3.7 V/6 and the 4.0L I6 having the ten spline 1 1/8” diameter input have conversion kits available.

The Ford Bronco is back and ready to take on the Jeep Wrangler in new ways

The original Ford Bronco ended its run back in 1996. This week, however, Ford resurrected the iconic SUV line with the 2021 Bronco that starts at $30,000 and takes hard aim at the Jeep Wrangler. It seems like a perfect vehicle for the moment. The roof—and even the doors—are easily removed for Zoolander-style summer cruising. But, thanks to an optional upgrade to 35-inch tires and some clever off-roading technology, it’s capable enough of going off-road just in case you suddenly need a bug out vehicle. Here in 2020, bugging out doesn’t seem too far-fetched.

The announcement arrives after years of hype. The original run went for three full decades until OJ Simpson’s televised police chase profoundly shifted its public identity. It began in 1966, positioned as an alternative to Jeeps that maintained the burliness, but offered a more comfortable ride and comforts like a radio.

Like the Wrangler, Ford built the new Bronco with genuine off-roading chops. You can order 35-inch tires straight from the factory at every trim level. Jumping up from 33-inches offers better traction and more grip, which is important in treacherous terrain. Upgrade to the Badlands edition of the new Bronco and you’ll get a detachable sway bar on the front, which allows the wheels to articulate and keep traction on uneven surfaces, which would typically cause one tire to hang uselessly in the air. (Tires can’t get traction if they’re not touching the ground.)

From an engine standpoint, you can choose from a 310 hp, 2.7-liter V-6, or a 270 hp, 2.3-liter turbo-4, both of which live in Ford’s Ecoboost line. Purists will appreciate the option to forego the 10-speed automatic transmission for a seven-speed manual version.

The Bronco typically only offers two doors, but there’s now a four-door version. No matter how many you choose, the doors are removable and the process is simpler than it ever has been. The side-view mirrors, for instance, are now mounted to the body itself so you won’t be mirrorless with the doors removed. In the four-door version, there’s also space to store the doors inside the vehicle itself after you’ve popped them off, so there’s no need to padlock them to a tree or just hope they don’t get stolen when you stash them somewhere before a drive.

The off-road compatible details continue inside the vehicle as well. The rubberized floors have built-tin drains so you can basically hose the mud out of the car after it gets dirty. The seats are marine-grade, so they won’t grow mildew or stain when they get wet. The infotainment gear in the console isn’t meant for direct blasts with the hose, but it can withstand moisture and hard cleaning as well.

In short, it seems like the new Bronco actually lives up to the considerable hype.

When you peruse the Bronco options, you’ll also come across the Bronco Sport, which, despite its similar name, is a much different vehicle. The Sport shares more than 80 percent of its parts with the familiar Ford Escape SUV. It’s not meant for heavy off-roading like the base Bronco, but it does have higher ground clearance than a typical SUV—it’s on par with the Jeep Liberty Trailhawk—and has more power in its engine than the Escape.

Despite the popularity of the original Bronco, the Sport will likely be even more appealing to those who don’t ever plan to go off-roading. Generally, only about 15-percent of SUV owners ever do any real off-road driving, which makes upgrades like big, gas-economy-hurting tires more of a hindrance than an advantage. Those rubber floors could come in handy if you have kids, though.
