TRC Cars
Thought I would give my interpretation of what cars I think the characters in trc drive because I wanted to draw them, and because I think the cars are a very important part of the books and I think they say a lot about their owners.
These are specific models that I chose based on the descriptions in the books. None are explicitly canon (bar Gansey's obviously) and some of these are completely random guesses bc there is so little information about the car. This post is also just a compilation of car descriptions in trc.
Disclaimer I do not know anything about cars so don't come for me.
GANSEY:
[... ] Gansey’s hell-tinged ’73 Camaro slicked with black stripes.
1973 Chevrolet Camaro - Orange with black stripes.
Iconic. Will go down in history.
RONAN:
Ronan Lynch’s shark-nosed BMW pulled in behind the Camaro, its normally glossy charcoal paint dusted green with pollen.
His smile was thin and sharp. If his BMW was shark-like, it had learned how from him.
Niall Lynch was handsome and charismatic and rich and mysterious, and one day, he was dragged from his charcoal-gray BMW and beaten to death with a tire iron.
2008 BMW M3 E90 - Sparkling Graphite Metallic.
Originally had another model, but then found out it was released in 2020 which is wayy too late so switched to this older one. Was a bit confused about the colour because Gansey refers to it as charcoal-grey and Ronan calls it black, so I looked up the specific colours this model was released in and chose from those. As I believe the trc takes place in the early 2010s, this is a newer car.
DECLAN:
Then Ronan grabbed Declan’s suit coat and used it to throw him onto the mirrorlike hood of Declan’s Volvo.
“Not the fucking car!” snarled Declan, his lip bloody.
2006 Volvo S60 - Silver
Just seems like exactly the type of plain boring unspecial car Declan would have. Chose silver because it's referred to as mirrorlike and that also makes so much sense for Declan. Not really sure when Declan got this car but I think 2006 is safe enough.
NOAH:
Czerny had pulled up in his red Mustang. He hadn’t gotten out of the car.
In the clearing, entirely out of place, was an abandoned car. A red Mustang. Newer model.
Bling,” Ronan remarked, kicking one of the tires. The Mustang had massive, expensive wheels, and now that Gansey looked more closely at the car, he saw that it was covered with aftermarket details: big rims, new spoiler, dark window tint, gaping exhaust.
2004 Ford Mustang GT - Red
This one was quite straightforward. I know it was called a newer model and 2004 isn't really that new if the books are set between 2010 and 2013 but it's Gansey's POV and he's obviously been exposed to a lot of older cars so from his perspective 2004 is new. Obviously it would look different with all the alterations.
ADAM:
"Adam, you want a piece-of-shit car? Save me the tow."
His new car was of uncertain make and model year. It was a two-door something and smelled of automotive body fluids. The hood, passenger-side door, and right rear fender were clearly from three entirely different cars. It was a stick shift.
“Look, just flash your lights if something goes wrong,” Gansey said, standing before the open door of his black Suburban. He ordinarily kept it here, but no one really trusted Adam’s new vehicle to make the drive across the state.
2001 Honda Accord EX Coupe - silver
I really don't know what I'm doing with this one. My only justification is that it's a Coupe, a Honda, really old, and was sold in the US.
KAVINSKY:
Kavinsky’s infamous Mitsubishi Evo was a thing of boyish beauty, moon-white with a voracious black mouth of a grille and an immense splattered graphic of a knife on either side of the body.
The Mitsubishi wailed and shuddered a bit. It was a glorious and hideous piece of work.
2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X - white
This was the easiest. I think this is probably the exact car Maggie was describing when she wrote the book. She says that it's an Evo which is already really specific, and "voracious black mouth" perfectly describes the Evo 10.
THE GRAY MAN:
The Gray Man hated his current rental car. He got the distinct impression it hadn’t been handled enough by humans when it was young, and now would never be pleasant to be around. Since he’d picked it up, it had already tried to bite him several times and had spent a considerable amount of time resisting his efforts to achieve the speed limit.
Also, it was champagne. Ridiculous color for a car.
1991 Nissan Figaro - Topaz Mist
This one was really hard and I'm completely guessing but this does look like the kind of car The Gray Man would hate. Definitely will be making another post about this because it's actually hilarious how much he hates it.
BLUE/300 FOX WAY:
Give her forty minutes and she could parallel park the Fox Way Ford in any place you liked.
There was only one car at 300 Fox Way, and so it was in high demand.
2004 Ford Fiesta - Blue
This one was also super hard. Literally all we know about this car is that it's a Ford. Inferred that it's a cheaper car and therefore probably older so this is what I came up with. I chose blue because I just think it fits Fox Way's whole vibe.
I spent way too long on this.
ROBERT PARRISH
As the Camaro headed slowly out of the single-track road, their path was blocked by a blue Toyota pickup truck, approaching from the other way. Adam’s breath stopped audibly. Through the windshield, Gansey met the eyes of Adam’s father.
1996 Toyota Tacoma - Blue

In November 2023, a Florida man, released from prison on Sept. 16 after serving a little less than two years on charges including human trafficking and child abuse, was back in jail after Miami-Dade police said he and another man went on a crime spree.
Tristan Brandon Sarut, 23, of Overtown, faced 11 felony charges after a series of vehicle break-ins and an SUV theft in west Miami-Dade’s Fontainebleau area, police said.
According to an arrest report, Sarut and the unidentified suspect targeted cars in the 9000 block of Grand Canal Drive during the early morning hours of Oct. 22.
Police said they recognized Sarut, with his distinctive neck tattoos, on CCTV footage as one of the suspects breaking into vehicles while toting a gun. They said he also stole a Chevrolet Suburban.
The next day, Hialeah police pulled the Suburban over in the 2100 block of West Eighth Avenue, according to the report. Police said Sarut was behind the wheel.
He received a new sentence of 5 years for his most recent actions.

General Motors is recalling nearly 462,000 pickup trucks and big SUVs with diesel engines because the rear wheels can lock up, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall in the U.S. covers certain Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickups from the 2020 through 2022 model years. Also included are the 2021 Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon and Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban. Documents posted Wednesday on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website say a transmission control valve can wear out over time. In rare cases it can fail and lock up the rear wheels. Drivers may notice harsh shifting before any wheel problems. GM says in documents that dealers will install new transmission control software that will monitor the valve and detect excess wear 10,000 miles before the wheels lock up. If wear is detected, the transmission will be limited to fifth gear, preventing wheel lockup, which happens when the transmission downshifts from eighth gear. GM will provide warranty coverage to fix transmissions that have a defective control valve. Owners will be notified of the recall by letter on Dec. 9.

MERROCK TASK #19 THE TINIEST DETAILS
do they drive? if so, do they enjoy driving or do they hate it? or somewhere in between? Cage has basically been driving since before he was even allowed to. He learned on farm vehicles and kept going from there. Honestly, he loves it, if he can choose between train, plane or automobile, it's automobile every time.
if they drive, where is their favorite location to drive to? Anywhere. He likes to drive out to Lake Malory, or up into the mountains. It's best to drive during the fall, when the weather is cool, the windows can be down, and the colors are gorgeous.
if they drive, do they own a vehicle? if so, what make and model? Cage owns three vehicles. Three, actually. Cage's work truck is a 2015 white Chevrolet Silverado, complete with company logo on the side. He's not the only person who drives it, as sometimes his guys will, but it is technically his car. He also has a 2020 shadow gray Chevrolet Suburban that is his sort of 'every day' vehicle when he's just living his life. And, of course, his baby: a 1971 yellow and white Chevrolet C10 that's been re-built and re-worked a million times, at this point (it was his father's truck).
what bumper stickers do they have on their car? None, on any of them. The work truck has sticker logos, of course, but the only time he will ever allow a sticker on a vehicle he owns is if it's one that comes off.
what paintings and/or posters are on their walls? Right now, there really isn't much of anything on the walls. Eventually, when the house is done, there will be paintings and family photos, though, he likes a home to feel cozy. Maybe some shelves and plants.
what is a song they listen to with the windows rolled down, turned all the way up, on the highway? Absolutely anything by Willie Nelson or Johnny Cash.
is there an artform they’ve always wanted to try (glassblowing, woodworking, painting, ect) but never have? if so, what about that artform speaks to them? Glassblowing would be kind of interesting, to try to make wood and glass jewelry, maybe? He's just always admired the skill that it takes. But no, he's never really thought about it seriously.
what time of day do they usually start getting sleepy? Probably around eleven. The time of night when he's settling in to watch the local news, paper work tucked away, ready to just unwind and head to bed.
do they catch a second wind? if so, what is their method for catching it (napping, drinking coffee, exercising, ect)? Absolutely coffee, although he's not against downing a Red Bull if he knows he needs a quick jolt. He's pretty good at making himself stay awake when he needs to.
are they a nap person? if so, how long are their naps? do they set a 20 minute timer and wake up before it? or set no timer and wake up in the middle of the night? Not at all, because if Cage is going to sleep, he's going to sleep. He tends to wake up in the morning and not rest until his head hits the pillow at night.
what is the most obscure book they’ve read? A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail.
what is a book that interested them so much they took it with them to the bathroom? A lot of books about foraging and living off the land, just because of how much information is out there.
what did the air smell like during their childhood? Dirt. And he means that in the best way possible. Cage grew up on a farm, and there was always the smell of dirt: whether it was on his hands, under his feet, being tilled and sifted for the gardens, it didn't matter. And, of course... blueberries.
what is a core memory from their childhood that they look back on fondly and for comfort? Most of Cage's childhood memories are tied up in trips to the farmer's market, helping his parents sell blueberries, or wandering through the rows of trees, picking berries and sampling them himself. Chasing his first love through the playground equipment, rough housing with his brothers, learning how to ride a bike...
when was the last time they were held, and truly held, for several minutes? who was it with? Probably some random night after a long day, and it would have been Cordelia. It's been a while since he's had any sort of 'consolation' holding, though. Maybe a friend directly after his father passed? Probably someone like Elise, in that case.
do they meditate? if not, have they ever tried? how did it go? Not really, no. He has tried it before (thanks, therapist), but it's just not something he thinks to do regularly. He isn't really someone who scoffs at the idea, he's just also not someone who would do something regularly.
how many pennies and quarters do they have in their couch? Probably about a dollar's worth, and it's not from him. Colton is horrible about keeping coins in his pockets.
how dusty is their home? spotless, lived-in, dust bunny haven? ... well, right now it's pretty dusty. But to be fair, it's not really being lived in, either! When they move in and get everything situated, it'll be clean and organized. Probably not perfect: two messy boys live in that space, after all, regardless of what effort is put in.
what is their favorite chocolate bar? Probably a Snickers.
do they like their brownies fudgy or cakey? or not at all, and only want the crusts? It doesn't matter if it's fudgy or cakey, Cage is going to be taking the corner piece.
whats that one weird food combination that everyone else thinks is gross but they think is delicious? Anything in tartar sauce. Chicken fingers, french fries -- give it a try, it's better than someone would expect it to be.
where do they put their shoes when they come home from a long day? The mud room, kick 'em off and either put on a pair of sneakers that he left there, or just go through the house in socks. His work boots have a tendency to get muddy, or just feel really heavy on his feet in general.
after a vacation, do they immediately unpack or slowly retrieve items from their suitcase until its empty? Somewhere in between. It's not getting unpacked the first day! But it might in a couple days after, you never know.
how often do they do self-reflection? Weirdly too often and not often enough, to be honest.
are they more afraid of being alone with themselves or with others? He isn't really sure anymore. There have been times in his life where he would say both. Right now, he's been taking a lot of solace in quiet hours alone at the farm, but that doesn't mean he doesn't want his loved ones around him.
have they ever had a near death experience? if so, what was it? Cage works with power tools for a living, of course he's had near death experiences. Not to mention the fact that he fell off of a ladder and cut himself on a rusty nail just last year.
out of all the subjects in school, which was their favorite? which one did they excel at? Shop class was his favorite, for obvious reasons. He did pretty well with math, he just refuses to admit to that out loud. (Simple math, though, not the advanced classes!)
how many alarms do they have set on their phone? what is their alarm ringtone? Two alarms. One is for himself, so he can get up and start moving, and the second is to make sure everyone else in the house is up and moving.
do they fart in front of other people? or do they hide their farts? ... yeah, no, Cage is just going to fart if he has to. Not, like, in front of customers or something! But in front of the crew or -- god forbid -- his family? Yeah, sure.
do they have to see any specialist doctors? if so, do they have a strong bond with their doctor or do they dislike them? Just a therapist, and he likes them a lot. He's been seeing her on and off for years, and feels like they have a good relationship.
what is their favorite seasoning? Old bay.
what is their favorite sauce? Remoulade.
how spicy is spicy for them? (pepper, jalepeno, ghost pepper, ect) Mildly spicy. He's adventurous with what he eats, absolutely, but he also recognizes that indigestion is a bitch and not something he wants to deal with every night before bed.
how long do they let the dishes go unwashed? Not very. Normally he loads up the dishwasher as they go and then run it when it's full. He also has a teenage son and has long ago learned that you need to go through every room in the house to find glasses and plates that might have been abandoned.
how much laundry do they accumulate before doing it? Alright, probably a little too much. Laundry is a pain in the ass, but he normally tries to do it once a week, so that clothes can get cycled through pretty regularly. Especially his work stuff.
what shampoo, conditioner, cologne/perfume and deodorant do they use? Shampoo and conditioner tends to be a two in one, something like Head and Shoulders or whatever he can find in the store when he runs out. He does use a separate soap, though. Cologne gets changed out every now and then, but he does reach for Polo Blue a lot by Ralph Lauren. Deodorant is Tom's of Maine.

Americans Like Super-Sized Everything, Including Cars. from Our Auto Expert on Vimeo.
In an era where everything is getting bigger, from our phones to our portion sizes, it is not a surprise that our vehicles are following suit. However, the scale of change in the automotive world might have you double-checking the dimensions of your garage. The 2024 Chevrolet Suburban, stretching a massive 225.7 inches in length, and the electric Hummer SUV, boasting a maximum width of 93.7 inches including mirrors, are setting new benchmarks for vehicular enormity. Even the electric Kia crossover isn’t shy, with its 800-volt battery tipping the scales at 1,000 pounds.
The trend isn’t just about bulkier designs or luxury add-ons. According to Transport and Environment, the average car widens at nearly half an inch every two years. This expansion isn’t just a number on a spec sheet; it’s reshaping our cities, impacting our environment, and even altering the fabric of our daily lives. Paris, France, is on the frontline of this change, tripling parking fees for SUVs to tackle the challenges these large vehicles pose.
Since the late 1970s, the size of cars has steadily increased, driven by a demand for added safety features, consumer preferences for more spacious and luxurious rides, and incentives favoring SUVs over sedans. This shift was further cemented in 1975 when the U.S. Congress amended fuel economy regulations, giving SUVs and light trucks a loophole to skirt stricter standards. Fast forward to today, and the repercussions are evident: the average mass of new cars in the EU and the UK has surged, contributing to higher oil demand and CO2 emissions—a 15% increase from 2001 to 2020.
The parking lot is where the rubber meets the road regarding size issues. A study by Which? Found 161 car models too big for the average UK parking space in 2023, with 27 models needing help to fit within a single bay. The situation isn’t much better across the pond, where the average width of new cars in the EU has crossed the 180cm mark, making parking a tight squeeze.
While electric vehicles (EVs) are lauded for their zero-emission credentials, their larger batteries present their own set of environmental challenges. Mining lithium, cobalt, and nickel, essential for these batteries, raises concerns about sustainability and ecological impact. Despite these hurdles, EVs, including the new Mini Countryman with its all-electric drivetrain and range of up to 462 km, are seen as a critical step towards a greener future.
Cities are at a crossroads, with some, like Brussels and Paris, pondering or implementing restrictions on large vehicles. Others are betting on alternative forms of transportation to navigate the challenges of urban mobility in the age of the automotive giant. The rise in road deaths in the US, exacerbated by the design of larger vehicles, underscores the urgency of rethinking our relationship with the car.
The new Mini Countryman is emblematic of this shift. No longer “mini,” it has embraced the SUV mantle, growing significantly in size, power, and style to cater to modern families. Manufactured in Germany, it’s a testament to Mini’s ambitious vision for an all-electric future by 2030. With advanced safety features, semi-automated driving capabilities, and a sleek, aerodynamic design, it represents the paradox of our times. As we strive for sustainability, our vehicles expand in size and scope.
The automotive landscape is evolving, with larger cars becoming the norm. As we navigate this expanding world, the choices we make today will shape the roads of tomorrow. Whether it’s the sprawling suburbs of America or the narrow streets of Paris, the question remains: how big is too big?

2020 Chevy Tahoe vs. Suburban Which Is Better?
Chevrolet, over time, has provided the most versatile lineups of SUVs in the market. Each of these offers close but distinct features. Although there’s an outstanding difference in these SUV lineups, albeit, their similarities can often prove confusing to shoppers. The Chevy Tahoe and Suburban have been one of the most remarkable SUV in the auto market. For over a quarter of a century, these two have been selling side-by-side. Unfortunately, most buyers are not too much aware of what makes one stand apart from the other.
The 2020 Tahoe makes part of the fourth Tahoe generation introduced for 2015; which comes in three trims: LS, LT, and Premier. This crossover SUV is gradually turning to a multi-tool of the automotive world. Its versatility, which is a trademark of all Chevy cars, allows it to fill in many options to many people.
The 2020 Suburban, on the other end, is part of the 11th Suburban generation introduced for 2015. It offers a big V8 engine and can legally accommodate nine passengers or tow more than 8,000 pounds. The available list of option packages allows plenty of modern features such as an adaptive suspension, ventilated front seats, and the latest safety features to be configured in the current Suburban.
Below is a brief comparison of the two Chevrolet cars to help you arrive at the best decision;
Interior And Cargo
The interior features of both the new Tahoe and the Suburban. The Tahoe has a maximum interior cargo volume of 51.7 cube feet while the Suburban boasts of 121.7 cube feet. Basically, the latest Suburban is a typical longer and bigger version of the Tahoe, with so much cargo space behind the third row. Also, where the Tahoe has a seating capacity of up to five passengers, the Suburban caps it with seven to nine-passenger seating capacity.
Engine And Fuel Economy
The Chevy Suburban comes standard with a 5.3-liter V8 engine that produces 355 horsepower, with a torque of 383 pound-feet, which is equally obtainable in the Tahoe. The engines in both Chevys are paired to a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. This association is responsible for the moderately quick movement of the SUVs. Moreover, the 6.2-liter V8 engine with 420 of horsepower, the torque of 460 pound-feet, and a modern 10-speed automatic transmission, which makes for an easier acceleration.
However, the Tahoe has a more favorable efficiency rating. The EPA of the Tahoe four-wheel drive gives 14 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, while that of the Suburban gets t 14 mpg city and 20 mpg highway.
Reliability
J.D power gave the Tahoe a four out of five-point rating, which is above average. The Suburban is rated three out of the same five-point.
Pricing
The 2020 Tahoe, with an MSRP of $49,000, costs less than the Suburban ($51,700).
The choice of Tahoe or Suburban falls fully on your budget and what you want in terms of space. These two new Chevy SUVs have the same two engine options and comparable lists of standard and available features. The Tahoe has a higher predicted reliability rating and costs less than the Suburban. In retrospect, the Suburban has more cargo space.

2022 Cadillac Escalade - Exterior and interior Details (Luxury Large SUV)
∂
2021 Cadillac Escalade Starting at: $77,790 Highs High-tech cabin, suitably upscale, gutsy V-8 engine. Lows Eye-popping price tag, big thirst for gasoline, up-level version of GMC and Chevy siblings are almost as nice. Verdict Buyers who view the Escalade as a status symbol will be delighted by the latest generation of Cadillac's flagship SUV. Overview Once upon a time, back in the late 1990s, General Motors slapped a Cadillac grille on a GMC Yukon—and the rest is history. The 2021 Cadillac Escalade will mark the model's fifth generation and this new one is head and shoulders above the original in terms of luxury, style, and technology. Borrowing elements from the Escala concept car from 2016, the new Escalade offers visual panache worthy of its price tag. Two engines are offered—a familiar 6.2-liter V-8 and a new turbo-diesel inline-six—both hooked up to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Inside, a series of clever curved OLED displays takes the Escalade's dashboard to the digital realm, serving as the gauge cluster and infotainment display in one slick assembly. What's New for 2021? The 2021 Escalade has undergone a thorough redesign, complete with a new independent rear suspension, savvier interior technology, prettier styling, and a new optional diesel-powered engine. Pricing and Which One to Buy Luxury: $77,790 Premium Luxury: $84,790 Sport: $87,490 Premium Luxury Platinum: $101,290 Sport Platinum: $102,190 To truly deck out the Escalade in its best features, go for the Premium Luxury Platinum trim. It adds semi-aniline leather, 16-way power-adjustable front seats with massage, soft-close doors, and an AKG audio system with 36 speakers. It also comes standard with a self-parking feature, a head-up display, and adaptive cruise control. Engine, Transmission, and Performance Cadillac's biggest SUV is powered by either a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that makes 420 horsepower and can deactivate half of its cylinders when cruising to save fuel or a turbo-diesel 3.0-liter inline-six. A 10-speed automatic transmission will be standard with both engines, and buyers will be able to choose from rear- or all-wheel-drive setups based on their individual needs. As with its siblings, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and the GMC Yukon, the 2021 Escalade now rides on an all-new platform with an independent rear suspension to help provide a smoother ride. Higher-end models also offer an air suspension with adaptive dampers that use computer-controlled shock absorbers. At our test track, the long-wheelbase Escalade ESV with the V-8 engine sprinted to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds. The diesel engine sounds less refined than the V-8, but for some buyers that compromise is worth the improved fuel economy and low-end torque. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG The EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2021 Escalade are lower than the 2020 model–at least for those powered by the 6.2-liter V-8. Rear-wheel drive examples are rated at 15 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined; adding all-wheel drive drops each of those numbers by 1 mpg. The 2020 model carried ratings as high as 23 mpg highway and the Escalade's key rival–the Lincoln Navigator–offers more efficient ratings too. Opting for the turbo-diesel engine should make a difference, but estimates haven't been reported for that model yet. We're looking forward to testing both powertrains on our 200-mile highway fuel-economy test route. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo As the flagship of the Cadillac lineup, the 2021 Escalade ups the ante on in-cabin luxury. Faux leather is used in the base Luxury trim, but all other trims receive the real deal, with Platinum models getting soft semi-aniline hides. Leather-covered dash and door panels, aluminum speaker grilles, and adjustable interior ambient lighting provide an upscale appearance. Like the outgoing model, both a standard and long-wheelbase model are offered, the latter of which yielding more legroom for third-row riders and additional cargo space. Infotainment and Connectivity In addition to the extra luxury features in the cabin, Cadillac has completely tricked out the Escalade in the electronics department. The main showpiece is the digital dashboard that's comprised of three curved OLED displays that layer on top of one another to create a cool 38-inches of combined digital real estate, some of which serves as the driver's gauge cluster while the rest projects the CUE infotainment system for the driver and passenger. The collection of displays is reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz GLS-class's giant monolithic infotainment setup, but the Escalade's stacked setup creates depth and looks less tacked-on than the Benz.

As chip shortage goes on, cars are scarce and prices are up
DETROIT (AP) — For the next few months, Charlie Gilchrist figures his 11 car dealerships in the Dallas-Fort Worth area will sell just about every new vehicle they can get from the factories — and at increased prices. In normal times, that would be cause for joy. Not so much now. A global shortage of computer chips has forced automakers to slash production. The result has been far fewer vehicles on dealer lots, just as the waning pandemic has fueled a pent-up consumer demand for cars, trucks and SUVs. Given the robust customer demand, dealers like Gilchrist could sell many more cars and trucks, if only they had more. Even at elevated prices — the average new-vehicle sales price tops $40,000, up nearly 10% in two years — customer demand exceeds supply. “It’s pretty evident when you pull onto our lots that there’s not much selection,” said Gilchrist, whose lots carry brands ranging from General Motors and Ford to Nissan and Volkswagen. “Our (sales) volume is falling because of the sheer lack of inventory. It will still fall during the next two or three months.” The across-the-board surge in auto prices contributed mightily to last month’s jump in U.S. consumer prices, the government reported Wednesday. A record 10% increase in used vehicle prices, in fact, accounted for roughly one-third of April’s overall rise in consumer prices — the sharpest monthly increase in more than a decade. Ford expects to produce only half its normal number of vehicles from now through June. GM and others have resorted to halting production of some cars and smaller SUVs and diverting computer chips to higher-profit pickup trucks and large SUVs. Leading automakers are warning of diminished earnings. The vehicle scarcity and the soaring prices can be traced to the eruption of the coronavirus 14 months ago. As the virus spread, auto factories shut down for a couple of months. With millions more people working from home, demand for laptops and monitors led semiconductor makers to shift from autos to personal electronics. Soon, though, a faster-than-expected economic rebound boosted demand for vehicles, and auto plants tried to restore full-scale production. Yet chip makers couldn’t respond swiftly enough. With production slowed, dealer inventories shrank. Now, as the chip shortage has persisted, the shortage of new vehicles has worsened, and analysts foresee no return to normal before next year. Yet so far, automakers have been earning big profits even with a depleted inventory, largely because many buyers have been willing to pay more to get what they want. With government stimulus checks and tax refunds in hand, Americans bought about 1.5 million new vehicles in April. That’s an adjusted annual sales rate of 18.5 million — the highest such rate since 2005. “It’s like toilet paper was a year ago,” said Michelle Krebs, executive analyst for Cox Automotive. “Everyone is rushing to buy a car.” Cox Automotive surveys suggest that 63% of potential buyers will stay in the market even with higher prices and a meager selection of vehicles. With new vehicles prices jumping, the cost of popular vehicles has become eye-opening. The average price of a new Chevrolet Silverado pickup, for example, is now just under $51,000. Even so, the supply of vehicles is dwindling. Last month, the nation’s total new-vehicle inventory plummeted 42% from a year ago to 1.9 million. That’s enough to supply only 33 days of sales at the current pace — 88 days fewer than a year ago, according to Cox. At the same time, discounts fell 5% from March to April and 25% from a year ago to an average of $3,239 per vehicle. Jeremy Smith is seeing the price increases on both ends as he buys and sells pickup trucks for his utility trailer sales business near Buffalo, New York. In March, he bought a used diesel 2020 Chevy Silverado crew cab with 21,000 miles on for $61,000. Comparable trucks are now listed on websites, he said, for $68,000 to $70,000. At the same time, he’s asking $13,995 for a 2011 Silverado crew cab with 178,000 miles on it, a far higher price than he would have thought even a few months ago. “You sell high, you buy high,” said Smith, who frequently buys trucks for his business. To get one now, he says, people have to move quickly to put in bids with dealers or owners. “If you’re not on it,” he said, “those things are gone.” Given the lack of supply, nearly everyone expects new vehicle sales to fall soon. That would mean fewer trade-ins, which would further tighten a low supply of used vehicles. For consumers who can wait, analysts say, it might be wise to delay buying any vehicle until next year or even beyond. An index that measures wholesale U.S. used vehicle prices from auction house Manheim soared 53% in April from a year ago, hitting a record high. Auto dealers buy used vehicles at auctions; the average price there hit nearly $18,000. Dealers mark up wholesale prices when they sell to consumers. The average list price of a used car last month was just over $22,000, 14% higher than a year ago. Dealers are now scrambling for used cars, hoping to sell them to keep cash flowing through the summer as new vehicle supplies dry up. Richard Bazzy, who runs four Ford and Lincoln dealerships in suburban Pittsburgh, said he’s formed a team to buy used vehicles. “Every car dealer in the world is jamming the auctions right now trying to fill their shelves because of the lack of new-car inventory,” he said. Bazzy said he’s hopeful that his business will manage OK with used sales, as well as revenue from parts and service. But he wants all the used cars they acquire now to be sold by August, when he expects the inventory of vehicles to start a return to normal. Cox’s Krebs said it’s hard to predict how long the chip shortage and tight supplies will last. Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas cautioned investors not to expect extremely high auto prices beyond the end of this year as new-vehicle supplies recover. The pandemic and chip shortage have made rental cars scarcer, too, driving up prices dramatically and causing long waits as people start traveling again. Rental companies have had trouble getting new cars because auto companies have diverted vehicles away from fleet buyers to more profitable sales to consumers. Higher demand has sent some rental companies to the used car market to find vehicles. Whenever the car shortage ends, GM, Ford and others say they will change business models away from having huge stocks. GM has considered regional distribution centers that could send vehicles to dealers in a matter of days. Ford’s CEO Jim Farley has talked of quickly delivering on factory orders. Both companies hope to reduce the interest paid on high inventories and keep discounts low. “I do think we are on the verge of possibly a different kind of paradigm for how vehicles are distributed,” Krebs said. Still, competition could thwart those plans once factories return to normal production. Bazzy normally stocks 400-500 pickup trucks at his three Ford dealers but is down to around 100. He’s confident that he can keep customers happy if they order a truck and can get it in four weeks. But he fears losing business to competing brands with a huge stock. “If the guy across the street from me has 300 (trucks) and my guy has to wait four weeks,” Bazzy said, “I’m going to lose him.” Read the full article

6 Lexus LS

Lexuses have got topped charts for dependability and build quality for decades right now, so they're a very strong choice for an ultra-high usage car. The LS may be the brand's flagship sedan, which usually starts at $76, 1000. That might seem a lot, yet it's great value taking into consideration the miles that a new customer could do in it.
Through Lexus Media
Older-model LS sedans quite regularly cross over the 300k mark, with the highest pressing half a million miles. Lexus' reputation for durability is just as bulletproof as it was back then, therefore there's no reason to think that the brand-new LS couldn't effortlessly reach that mileage, or maybe more.

four Ford F-150
Via Kia
One of Many best-selling vehicles, the F-150 is a true classic. It might be achieved its status thanks to the Kia promise of being Built Difficult, which has come to mean enduring durability and quality structure.
Via Ford

3 Ford Civic
Through YouTube
Civics are small, cheap, plus surprisingly dependable little hatchbacks. Most drivers who perform crazy mileage each year will not likely pick one, so it might take lengthier for a Civic to reach the particular 300, 000 mark compared to some other models. But , in order to does get there it should be in good shape.
Via Autotrader
There are reports associated with Civics with over five hundred, 000 miles on them, and also a few that have reached the particular million-mile mark. With that type of reliability, there should be no troubles taking the Civic for as numerous miles as its driver may manage.
2 Mazda Miata
Through Mazda USA
The mantra of Japanese quality doesn't just cover household sedans and SUVs, this extends all the way into their sports activities cars too. One of the reasons the particular Mazda Miata is so well-known is that it can pretty much deal with whatever is thrown in it, including being mistreated on a track or on the highway.
Via Mazda USA
If it's more thoroughly driven, a Miata may quite happily roll in order to 300, 000 miles plus beyond. Owners' forums also talk of cars that have near to half a million miles but still haven't had any main work done. It might not have to get the most practical of vehicles in terms of cargo space, yet a Miata will certainly outperform a lot of much more expensive competitors on the durability front.

2021 Cadillac Escalade - interior Exterior and Driving (Luxury Large SUV)
∂
2021 Cadillac Escalade Starting at: $77,490 Highs High-tech cabin, suitably upscale, gutsy V-8 engine. Pricing and Which One to Buy Luxury: $77,490 Premium Luxury: $84,290 Sport: $86,890 Sport Platinum: $101,290 Premium Luxury Platinum: $101,290 To truly deck out the Escalade in its best features, go for the Premium Luxury Platinum trim.
