The video advertisement is about Nestle Philippines' new Nesfruta product line, Nesfruta Buko. Namely, Nesfruta Buko and Nesfruta Mangosteen, although the ad emphasized more on the Buko flavor since the Mangosteen flavor was only introduced at the end of the advertisement. In the ad, Nesfruta Buko was described as made with real fruit juice, rich in one hundred percent vitamin C, and contains no artificial colors. The advertisement's target audience is most likely people looking for a refreshing drink without artificial colors and having real fruit juice. It also targets parents who are looking for a new and nutritious drink for their children, as it can be seen in the video that Nestle claimed that the juice was rich in one hundred percent vitamin C based on RENI for kids seven to nine years of age. At first glance, Nesfruta Buko juice seems like an innocent product that only wants to provide consumers an option for a drink that is made with real fruit juice. But according to Anne (2020), drinks like Nesfruta Buko contain sweeteners, and because they are 200–20,000 times sweeter than conventional table sugar, their strong flavor can draw us in and leave us craving more sweetness. Artificial sweeteners in flavored water enhancers and other food/drink products may influence our brains to prefer intensely sweet flavors if they are consumed frequently; this can lead to an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and overall death (Pros and Cons of Artificial Sweeteners, 2023). Furthermore, the forms of media manipulation present in the advertisement are hoaxes and celebrity endorsement. Although not entirely a hoax, the claims in the advertisement state that Nesfruta Buko is made with real fruit juice. It is then followed with the claim of one hundred percent vitamin C; this can lead to a correlation that the drink is made with one hundred percent fruit juice. In addition, the presence of Kiko Matos makes this advertisement fall under celebrity endorsement. Overall, the commercial ad effectively promoted the product it was about. Until now, the catchy song in the ad is still imprinted on people's minds because it is very catchy. The song in the advertisement has also been used in memes due to one of the actors and the sound effects, further extending the advertisement's audience reach.

Organic Baby Food Market: A Global and Regional Analysis for 2033
The organic baby food market is expected to be worth US$ 5.5 Bn as far as income in 2023. The market is projected to extend at a CAGR of 16.1% to arrive at a market size of US$ 24.5 Bn by 2033.
More individuals are choosing organic alternatives as a result of parents' increased concern about the harmful consequences of chemical additives in baby foods. Clean label trends are being emphasised more, which is expected to increase demand for plant-based components. A Future Market Insights (FMI) report predicts that the market for natural baby food will expand quickly in the years to come. Through 2021 and beyond, a double digit CAGR is predicted for the market.
Organic baby food producers aim for nutrients rich profiles in formulations, in a growing range of flavors and targeted age group demographics. Following the covid-19 pandemic sales through online channels have witnessed an upsurge, which is unlikely to change through 2031.
Major investments by governments towards urbanization and the rapid transition of rural populations to urban centers is creating increased potential for organic baby food sales. Consumer health and environment consciousness will contribute to greater demand for the foreseeable future.
Brand Positioning in Terms of Health Claims Creates Opportunities
Sales of baby food products are largely reliant on health claims made by brands, with information about the pros and cons of breast feeding clearly stated and available through the internet. Some of the more prominent structural and health claims used by brands include information on digestibility and characteristics associated with immune systems and growth.
Request for Sample: https://www.futuremarketinsights.com/reports/sample/rep-br-333
Many products also come with recommendations to seek the advice of healthcare professionals prior to feeding baby foods to children below the age of 1 year, which also clearly stating the advantages of breast feeding. Also high levels of concern among parents about obesity, and added sugar and salt are key to labelling practices in the industry. While TV and radio are not given much importance, social media channels are gaining ground for promotional activities.
Warnings and recommendation labels are more common on milk supplement products over the adequate and correct use of these products, especially for toddlers transitioning to solid foods. These trends are expected to have a significant impact on developments within the industry.
Who is Winning?
Leading players in the BRIC organic baby food market include but are not limited to H.J. Heinz Company, Nestle S.A, British Biologicals, Groupe Danone, Bellamy’s Australia Limited, Abbott Laboratories, Campbell Soup Company, Otsuka Holdings Co., Ltd. Major players are seeking to expand production capacities, widen product portfolios and geographical reach in a bid to edge out conventional baby food product manufacturers.
For example, Serenity Kids announced a US$ 3 million investment round in December 2020, aimed towards the expansion of organic baby food portfolio. Nestle, in September 2020, announced plans to expand its infant formula production operations in Russia with an investment of US$ 45.8 million including a full cycle factory in Vologda. In January 2021, Timios, based in India announced the launch of its organic baby porridge product to add to its portfolio of toddler snacks including energy bars, pre-probiotic bites, and melts.
A thorough guide to explaining the advantages of feeding organic toddlers meals is available for parents in Healthy and Tasty Meals for Growing Toddlers. The manual emphasises the value of eating organic foods that are devoid of dangerous chemicals and preservatives. It offers a choice of wholesome, delectable, and quick-to-prepare meal alternatives that supply the vital vitamins, minerals, and nutrients needed for a toddler's growth and development. Meal preparation, fussy eaters, and food allergies are among the other subjects covered in the guide. This guide will provide you all the knowledge you need, regardless of whether you are a first-time parent or an experienced one, to make sure your toddler is eating wholesome, organic meals every day.

Happier Times
During my Christmas break, I binge read Endless Summer. Just as I expected, I fell in love with my two favorite characters all over again. And since I probably had too many marshmallows last night (hey, it’s been 2020, we all deserve a treat, right?), I came up with this fic idea. It’s sickly sweet and fluffy and cheesy and everything in between. Also, probability? Never heard of her.
Be warned and enjoy :-)
Here’s to happier times: stay healthy and safe! May 2021 be everything 2020 wasn’t.
Book: Endless Summer
Pairing: Jake x MC
Warnings: none, just sweetness and fluff (get some toothpaste ready)
Word count: ~2600 (10 minutes reading time)
The house was haunted.
Well, it was either that, or Taylor was losing her mind.
Between the two, she would rather have a ghost.
It all started innocently, with a missing laundry basket. At first, Taylor thought she left it in the garden, but it wasn’t there. She searched the house from top to bottom, but it wasn’t there either. “It couldn’t just get up and walk away! Have you taken it?” She asked her husband, but Jake shrugged and turned away, murmuring something she’d rather not hear.
It was a long shot, anyway. Jake never did laundry, not unless he really had to. He’d rather scrub the floors or wash windows. If she had to guess, it was because you didn’t have to do it as often, but she chose not to complain. She wasn’t a big fan of the household chores, either.
Next was her favorite coffee cup.
Taylor bought a set of six identical cups when they moved in, but this one was special. A little chipped and faded from years of washing, and still her favorite. Every afternoon, she would sit in her spot by the window and have a coffee in it. It was her “me time,” as sacred as it was short.
Gritting her teeth, she opened the fridge to grab a snack, but to her surprise, the food was also gone. Well, most of it. It was easier to explain——she didn’t know what it was with men and food, but she already got used to the sight of empty shelves. She only hoped he had the decency to restock it.
“Do you need anything? I’m going to the store.” Jake peeked through the door as if reading her mind, and she gestured hopelessly at the fridge. “Yeah, sorry about that.” He shot her a dazzling smile and left before she had a chance to say anything.
“Wait! Have you seen...” She uttered finally, but the loud click of the front door told her it was too late. With a sigh, she plopped in her chair. Coffeeless. It certainly didn’t help brighten her mood.
“At least the weather is great,” she whispered to herself. That much was true. The rains finally stopped, leaving fresh, crisp air behind. The sun was already hanging low, but she could still see stray rays fighting their way through lush greenery, and the blue sky matched the color of her husband’s eyes.
She smiled at her thoughts. So many things have changed throughout the years, but the way Jake looked at her didn’t. The warmth she felt inside when she thought of him didn’t, either.
And if she had a say in the matter, it wasn’t going anywhere. Ever.
Speaking of going anywhere, though—they could take a break and go to the beach. Sand would probably be still damp, and ocean waters cold, but it wouldn’t matter. They had a soft spot for the beaches from the very beginning. It was time to add another happy memory to their collection. Tomorrow, she decided, checking the weather forecast.
When she climbed to the top shelf, she wasn’t even surprised her bag and blanket were no longer among the other beach items. It was just her luck today. Cursing under her breath, she slammed the door a little too hard, summoning a cloud of ancient dust sleeping on the wardrobe.
This day just kept getting better and better.
Huffing and sneezing, Taylor reached the bathroom and stared in disbelief. The laundry basket she looked for the entire morning was back where it’s always been. Adding insult to injury, it looked like it was laughing at her anguish, mocking her with hundreds of its tiny eye-shaped holes. She ignored the insolent box and turned on her heel, trying to ignore the trembling hands.
“It’s fine,” she whispered. “Nothing’s happening. I’m just tired. I need to go to bed earlier. Or maybe have a drink. Yes, that’s a good start.” Mumbling under her breath, she went back to the kitchen and opened the cabinet. Then closed it and opened it again. And again. And again.
The more she looked inside, the more the wine bottle wasn’t there.
It was the last straw.
A sudden cry startled Jake. What on Earth happened? It didn’t sound entirely human. Without hesitation, he ran to the kitchen only to see his wife, as human as she ever was, waving an angry (and a little... dusty?) fist at the furniture. He tried to retreat silently, but she turned and pointed an accusing finger at him.
“You! Do you think I’m crazy?”
“Huh?” He looked her up and down. “You mean, more than usual?” He tried to joke, but under her death glare, the words got stuck in his throat.
“I keep losing things,” Taylor sniffled. “First the laundry basket, then my favorite cup—”
He wrapped his hands around her and whispered so low she couldn’t hear him, “Good riddance.”
“—and now even the wine is gone!”
“I’m sure we’ll find it,” he tried to cheer her up. “Just maybe not right now?”
“Why not?”
“You deserve a break.” He stroked her back. “And, uh, a shower. What were you doing, anyway?”
“Don’t ask. I think the universe hates me. At least today.”
“Well, I know exactly how to cheer you up.” Jake beamed. “I’m taking you on a date. I already asked our neighbors, they don’t mind having more kids tonight, so we’re free. You know, just you and me, like in ancient times?”
“Come on, we’re definitely not ancient!” She laughed in protest. “But you’re right, it’s been a while. Give me five minutes. Where are we going?”
“A gentleman never tells.”
***
Thirty minutes later, Taylor felt the car coming to a stop. She still had no idea where they were going—just before they left, Jake asked her to close her eyes and stop peeking, and to her own surprise, she obliged. Now that he held her hand and helped her out, she didn’t even need to open them to know. There was only one place with that smell and salty breeze.
“Just in time to watch the sunset, eh?” She turned to Jake with a smile that quickly turned into a scowl when she noticed the bag he was holding. And all the missing items sticking out of it, her favorite mug and wine bottle included. “Don’t tell me it was you.”
“I’m sorry. Please, don’t be mad.”
She shook her head. “You could have told me.”
“That would spoil the surprise,” he murmured apologetically.
“But why my mug?”
“It was on the front. My bad.”
“And the laundry basket?”
“I forgot where you put this thing,” he swung the bag.
Taylor looked at her husband, trying to keep her dignity, but the laugh she kept inside finally broke free. It started small, with shaking shoulders, but before she knew it, she lost control entirely and doubled over, grabbing on to Jake for support.
“That was... something else,” she wheezed, wiping the tears from his eyes. “Sorry. Thank you. It definitely was a surprise.”
“Mm-hmm.” He grinned and nodded at the blazing sky. “What do you think?”
“Ten out of ten. Just look at the colors,” Taylor sighed in admiration, draping the blanket over their shoulders and snuggling to his side. “Also, great company. And food” —she curiously eyed a flattened sandwich before taking a small bite— “probably not poisonous. Overall, would recommend.”
Jake looked at her with his signature half-smile, and she felt the familiar warmth spreading throughout her body. She raised her hand to tuck a loose strand of hair behind his ear, then pulled him in for a kiss and nestled her head on his shoulder with a happy little sigh.
Just as she was drifting off into sleep, she heard his low voice.
“I got a letter today.”
“Oh?”
“From the court.”
“Oh.” She gasped, any remnants of drowsiness gone in an instant. A while ago—a really, really, really long while ago—they decided to try and free Jake from his charges. Their friends helped—actually, they did most of the work, from Aleister hiring lawyers to Zahra unearthing real evidence—but they never got any response.
Not until now.
“What does it say?”
“I don’t know. I couldn’t bring myself to read it.” Jake admitted, smiling bleakly at the thick letter he fished out of his pocket. “I’m feeling like the Schrödinger’s cat right now. Both guilty and innocent until we open it. It’s funny how I couldn’t wait for it, and now I’m not even sure if I want to know.”
“Are-are you—” She stuttered, trailing a finger over the envelope. “Are you afraid you won’t be able to come home?”
“No,” he sighed. “It’s not that. The truth is, it’s not my home. Not anymore. My home is here. With you. No matter what they say, I am home.”
“Oh, Jake,” She wrapped her hands around his waist. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Princess.” He ran his fingers along her cheek and tipped her chin up for a kiss.
Taylor hesitantly pulled out of the embrace. “Well then, if you don’t read it, I will. Worst case scenario, everything stays as it is, right?”
She tore the envelope and unfolded the letter. Despite her apparent bravado, Jake could see her hands were trembling. She turned page after page, and when she finally raised her head, he couldn’t read her face. It was completely blank. Nothing, nil, nada.
“Well?” He blurted out. Deep inside, he felt his heart drop. It wasn’t right. His wife wasn’t good at hiding her emotions. She would smile, her starry eyes would twinkle with joy, she would never stare at him like that if the letter brought good news. His shoulders slumped, and he stared into the distance, blinking away tears. He could feel Taylor’s arms wrapped around him, her shaking shoulders and hot tears soaking through his shirt, but he dared not look.
It wasn’t that he didn’t know it was a possibility. Only now, when his luck took a turn for the better, he wasn’t seriously considering it.
He would get over it. He had mastered “getting over it.”
Just not now.
“Jake? Do you hear me?”
He looked at his wife, dumbfounded. Her whole face lit up. It didn’t make any sense, but she was beaming.
“You’re free,” she whispered. “You’re free.”
“What?!” He grabbed the papers from her hand and scanned line after line, not understanding half of the jargon. Still, the crucial sentence, written in bold, was not open to interpretations. All charges were dropped.
He was no longer a wanted man.
He wanted to shout, sing, dance, everything at once—but all he could do was stare at the letter.
“I can’t believe it,” he whispered. “I thought—You looked so—”
“I was shocked,” Taylor smiled apologetically. “I couldn’t believe it either. I shouldn’t be surprised, I knew you didn’t do anything, but—oh, you have no idea how happy for you I am right now!”
She jumped into Jake’s arms, throwing him off balance, and they both tumbled into the sand, giggling like a pair of teenagers.
“I just... can’t... believe... it,” he muttered, stopping to place a kiss on her lips after each word. “I was sure we lost.”
“But we won.”
“Yeah.” He helper her rise to her feet. “We should head back home, then. Pack our bags. I’ll get the plane ready, so we can start tomorrow morning.”
“So much for ‘my home is wherever you are,’” she let out an exaggerated sigh followed by a giggle.
“I mean, I don’t want to go back there forever. For a few days, a week.”
“For as long as you need.”
They stared into each others’ eyes for what felt like an eternity, even if only a few seconds passed.
“Can you pack my suit?” Jake finally broke the silence. “And a nice dress, and... you know, fancy things?” He waved his hand hopelessly, and Taylor only raised her brows in response. He whispered something into her ear, and her eyes grew wide.
“Of course! I wouldn’t miss it for the world. But I swear, Jacob Lucas McKenzie, if you keep anything, and I mean literally anything, from me ever again...!”
***
Jake fixed his tie for the millionth time. There was no point in denying it—he was nervous. And it wasn’t even his wedding.
It’s just been too long, and—
“Ah, to hell with it,” he muttered and raised his hand to knock, only the door swung open before he had a chance to do it.
“There you are!” A tall brunette in a frilly bridesmaid gown pulled him inside, clearly relieved. “You’re late.”
“Sorry,” he muttered under his breath, stealing a look at the bride, who unsuccessfully tried to tame a stray lock.
She’s all grown up now, he realized with surprise. He half-expected to see a scrawny redheaded teenager, always at odds with the world. That’s how he still remembered and imagined her—except it was well over a decade ago. The young woman he saw right now looked happy and self-assured, and, well, beautiful. He couldn’t not admit otherwise without taking a dig at his own looks, and he was rather proud of it.
“What took you so long?” The bride finally gave up on her hair and extended her arm without as much as looking at him.
“Er, it’s a long story. I don’t think we have time for that.”
Rebecca turned with a gasp of surprise. She expected her cousin, and not her prodigal older brother. Nobody expected him to show up at her wedding, not after he disappeared without a word all those years ago. To be honest, most people probably even forgot she had a brother, the black sheep of the family.
She didn't.
Jake could see all the conflicting emotions on her face. He was glad when she finally settled on a smile and flung her hands around his neck, hugging him really tight like she tried to make up for the lost years.
“This was for everything,” she said with a smile, pulling back. “And this” —Jake staggered back when she slapped him across the face—is for everything else.”
“I guess I deserved it,” he agreed, massaging his jaw. “Don’t worry, that’s how we show love in our family. You may go!” He shooed away the flock of bridesmaids.
“It’s been a while, Becks.” He smiled softly at his sister, and she snorted in return.
“You tell me!”
“I’m sorry. Really sorry.” He squeezed her hand and stared into her face, not unlike his own. “I never meant for any of this to happen. But it did, and I’m sorry. Will you ever forgive me?”
“I already did. But tell me one thing. Is it safe for you to come here?” Rebecca beamed at his nod and looped her arm through his. “We have to talk. But please, not now. I don’t want them to think I changed my mind.”
“If you want to run, just give me a word. I have some experience, you know.”
“God, no.” She laughed. “No running today, I promise.”
As they walked down the aisle, he kept glancing at his sister and ignoring the guests’ gasps and murmurs. Her gaze was fixed on her fiancee, who in turn was grinning sheepishly at the altar. Funny, how he never took her for the marrying kind. But then nobody took him, either, and there he was.
Maybe you just needed the right person. At the right time.
Because he was sure you didn’t need the gossiping aunts, no matter what customs said.
“Thank you,” she said when they stopped. “I’m happy you’re back.”
Jake smiled at his sister and her fiancee.
“So am I. Good luck, you two.”
He resisted the urge to wave to the crowd and instead darted to where he noticed his own right person. And as he held her warm hand, for the first time ever, he finally felt all the puzzle pieces were in place.
He was, after all, a lucky man.

Kefir Market Size, 2020 Industry Share and Global Demand | 2027 Forecast by Fortune Business Insights™
Kefir Market size is projected to reach USD 1.84 billion by 2027, exhibiting a CAGR of 5.4% during the forecast period. Excellent benefits of fermented dairy products on heart health will prove to be a major game-changer for this market in the coming years.
Fortune Business Insights™ in its report, titled “Kefir Market Size, Share & COVID-19 Impact Analysis, By Product Type (Dairy-based & Non-dairy), By Nature (Organic & Conventional), Category (Flavored & Non-flavored), Distribution Channel (Supermarkets/Hypermarkets, Convenience Stores, Specialty Stores, & Online Retail), and Regional Forecast, 2020-2027”. Findings from a 2018 study conducted by researchers from the University of Eastern Finland revealed that men who consume large amount of fermented dairy items such as kefir and yoghurt have a significantly lower risk of developing coronary heart disease. Another study, conducted in Brazil and published in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry in 2019, showed that kefir-infused fermented milk improved blood pressure and prevented cardiac hypertrophy. With increasing prevalence of cardiovascular disorders, which are the number one cause of death worldwide according to the WHO, the demand for probiotics-laden ingredients such as kefir is likely to spike, as people become more aware of their potential health benefits.
The report states that the global market value stood at USD 1.23 billion in 2019 and provides the following:
A thorough study of all the factors driving and restraining the market;
Detailed analysis of the various market segments;
A comprehensive examination of the regional prospects for the market; and
In-depth research of the competitive landscape of the market.
Market Opportunity
Increasing Focus on Gut Health to Fight the Coronavirus to Create Opportunities
The COVID-19 pandemic has renewed the debate on maintaining gut health, with several health experts emphasizing and highlighting the critical link between the immune system and the gut. For example, epidemiologists at the King’s College London established through research that gut bacteria release many important chemicals, including Vitamin A, which help regulate and strengthen the immune system.
With a vaccine for the coronavirus seeming unlikely in the immediate future, bolstering the gut micro-biome, and the immune system by extension, has become crucial. This is possible, according to the researchers, by consuming healthy amounts of natural probiotics found in drinks such as kefir and fermented foods such as Korean kimchi. The current health crisis, therefore, may generate conditions favorable to the kefir market growth. However, disruptions in supply chains and downturn in economic activities will dampen the growth prospects of the market in 2020.
Regional Insights
High Nutritional Awareness to Power Market Growth in Europe
Europe, where the market size stood at USD 654.78 million in 2019, is expected to dominate the kefir market share during the forecast period. The central growth driver for this region is the widespread awareness about the nutritional requirements to maintain gut health. Emerging trend of healthy snacking is also expected to boost the demand for fermented milk in the region.
Increasing investment in research to investigate the benefits of probiotic food & drinks by companies in North America will fuel the regional market growth. In Asia Pacific, the market will be mainly driven by the growing interest of consumers in novel, flavored probiotic products, especially dairy-based kefir, which held a share of 71.91% in 2019 in the region.
List of the Leading Companies Profiled in the Global Kefir Market are:
The Icelandic Milk and Skyr Corp (New York, U.S.)

With consumer preferences and tastes undergoing continuous change, key players in this market are constantly evolving their strategies to meet the consumer demand. As a result, companies are developing and introducing novel offerings to broaden their sales horizons and build a strong brand value for their products.
Key Industry Developments:
May 2020: Biotiful Dairy expanded its kefir liquid portfolio with the addition of Kefir Blackcurrant and Kefir Mango flavors. The company’s cultured milk beverages are created by fermenting milk with live kefir grains, which is then infused with fruit.
September 2019: Lifeway Foods released the “Kefir Minis” product range at the Natural Products Expo East held in Baltimore, Maryland. Offered in small-sized bottles for on-the-go snacking, the line-up features four flavors, including Strawberry Split and Campfire S’mores, catering to kids’ tastes and likings.

The wow that’s happening now
Children’s television is full of inanities, as every parent reading this will know. For example, who else questioned Madame Gazelle’s qualifications as an early years teacher after she decided the best way to introduce Peppa Pig’s French friend Delphine Donkey to the English language was a rendition of ‘bong-bing-boo, bing-bong-bing, bing-bong-bingly-bongly-boo’? I dread to think what Ofsted would make of such garbage.
But, hidden far beneath the surface, there lurk pearls of wisdom.
The star of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is often reminded to “enjoy the wow that’s happening now” and while we in turn sing it back to Ivy when the situation demands, it’s a mantra that applies just as much to us adults, too.
It’s in our nature, mine certainly, to want to plan ahead and shape the narrative of the next year or so. That might be getting a steer on what’s happening at work, booking a holiday, working out travel plans or other, more personal, issues. And with COVID-19 having taken much of that control out of our hands in 2020, a year which for many of us can’t end soon enough, it’s even more tempting to wish the time away until we can do all those things we’ve been deprived of during this annus horribilis.
But with a nod to Daniel Tiger, there are definitely positives aplenty when you put down the binoculars and pop on the reading glasses to refocus on what’s closer at hand. For one thing, we’re fortunate here in NSW to be enjoying far greater freedom than the Victorians just down the road, while those in Melbourne have been doing it even tougher still.
Looking back a year to our arrival in Australia, I was feeling frustrated at driving down dead ends in search of jobs that weren’t there or pay for work that wasn’t forthcoming. Admittedly I am still a sports journalist unemployed in that particular sphere but taking on a new full-time role at Albury North Public School has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Originally there one day a week to produce the school newsletter, my remit has expanded into more of a PR position with self-taught video production thrown into the mix. It’s such a vibrant environment, being around 200+ kids every day with a fantastic staff to bounce off (not literally, although football at recess can get quite involved) and a real feeling of job satisfaction and making a difference. Much like the newsroom, no two days are the same. Last term I ended up interviewing the Mayor of Albury, producing a last-minute COVID-19 pull-out, presenting the possibility of a new school uniform - complete with a student debate - and liaising with the local media. Having been on the other side of that particular fence, flagging up the story of a swimming champion in Year 6 felt fairly routine but it was a different matter when our NSW/VIC pen pal scheme hit the headlines. There was heaps of interest straight away and I spent a day co-ordinating visits from TV crews and radio reporters, with further interviews taking place throughout the week. Talk about feeling alive; it was so good to see the kids and teachers getting the platform their hard work deserves.
Another unexpected ‘wow’ was a week’s holiday in Jervis Bay, about 200km south of Sydney. We’d been due to fly interstate, like so many others, but COVID put the kibosh on that and forced a rethink. So a place we’d never thought of visiting turned out to be the most fantastic base for our few days there, with Callala Beach every bit the relaxing hideout we’d hoped for. With the sea literally a stone’s throw away from our door, we were there every day with Ivy rather happier to brave the chilly waters than her parents. One kayaking incident aside, our beach experience was terrific. Huskisson was our launching point for a whale watching cruise which delivered not only close-up encounters with the behemoth and its calf but the chance to glide alongside a school of dolphins closer to the shore, away from the huge ocean swell. You couldn’t beat Tilbury Cove, Culburra Beach for shell-collecting or sandcastle-building or Greenwell Point for fish & chips, where the pelicans behaved like seagulls waiting for the foolish tourist to throw them a morsel.
We spent a day up the coast in Kiama, where the spectacular blowhole and company of some dear friends made our crawl through the Princes Highway roadworks worthwhile. The road to Currarong, by comparison, was almost deserted, but drama of a different kind lay ahead. As we entered the tiny seaside town, plumes of black smoke from a hazard reduction burn - crucial ahead of the fire season - filled the sky and swirled through some of the back streets. “This is a stress-free area” insisted the lady serving behind the counter of the convenience store as she confidently assured us everything was under control. But not so, it turned out, as we discovered after exploring the rock pools and getting back on the road. Having traversed the 10km gravel road to and from the imposing Point Perpendicular Lighthouse, atop cliffs overlooking the spot where we had seen the whales, security personnel at the gatehouse warned us against returning to Currarong as the fire was now out of control.
For all the beauty of the coast, one of our favourite stops was inland at the Shoalhaven Zoo in Nowra. Nestled between the river and a sheer rock face, it’s uncomplicated and unpretentious but with a cracking selection of animals including a farm section for the little ‘uns. Ivy just loved patting the kangaroos. When in Rome...
Eventually it was time to leave the coast behind - for another 10 weeks, at least. Our route back took us through the mighty Kangaroo Valley, down a series of steep hairpin bends and up even more on the other side. We passed a group of cyclists next to the historic Hampden Bridge. The looming ascent must have looked to them as the Grand Colombier had to an ailing Egan Bernal in the Tour de France just days earlier.
So, one term left in this year of years as we approach the the run-in to Christmas and the powerful heat of summer. One eye on planning for next year, that’s for sure, but also accepting the challenges of today.
Watching our friend Naomi Mitchell run the race of her life to finish 14th at the London Marathon has inspired me to start running again. I’ve been out three of the last four days, further each time, and, coupled with some healthy eating, I’m starting to feel the benefits - physical and mental - already. I’m determined to keep pushing myself and get into shape. It’s not something I’ve enjoyed that much before but if Naomi can do 26.2 miles in two-and-a-half hours, I can get to 5k and beyond.
Positive change is in the air. Who knows, I might learn a new language too.
All together now...

dear diary, bc i don’t have one
May 30, 2020 Five years and one month ago, I wrote the post under the cut and saved it as a draft bc it was dire and self-pitying and TMI. This week I relived the same exact thing but this time, in addition to being sad and annoyed and in pain, I’m tired of hiding it. I’m tired of pretending I don’t hurt in some small way almost daily and don’t worry all. the. time. about whether there’s a bathroom nearby or if I can swallow the food I’ve been offered. I’m resentful of everyone who doesn’t understand basic anatomy and has the luxury of laughingly being afraid of needles because their lives don’t depend on knowing where their ileum is or being plugged into an IV every six weeks.
Eleven years ago when I was diagnosed with condition that will kill me in motion so slow it’s not considered fatal, I was determined not to let it define me, not to allow myself to be labeled a sick person. I still balk at sick person but, goddamn, there’s gotta be another word for what I am because normal and healthy do not apply and sick augers pity. I don’t want your pity. I want your respect. My life is hard and I often hate it. But I’m here. With my monstrous insides full of poisonous chemicals and no time for holistic gluten-free fermented-food orange shakra approaches. My starting point is well beyond well-meaning advice. I know ways pain can slice through a body that most people can’t imagine. But I’m here. And I don’t want to be quiet about how hard it is to be here anymore. I just want people to do me—and everyone like me—the respect of wearing masks and getting flu shots and not crumpling their faces when we talk about the facts of our existence.
April 30, 2015 This morning I had an endoscopy—the thing where they stick a scope down your esophagus into your stomach. I’d been having some trouble swallowing food. It’s happened before. In fact, I’ve nearly choked to death so often (not kidding wish I were kidding but not kidding) that I’ve developed a whole mental calculus while eating to prevent it: take small bites, chew like a thousand times, make sure there’s enough liquid in the mouthful, swallow carefully, take a breath after each swallow to make sure you can, repeat. Last time this happened they found a small web, like an extra membrane that developed along the curve of my esophagus that was constricting its movement and even acting like a shelf that food, pills, etc. got stuck on. The doctor broke it up with the scope and I went on my merry way. Two years later, this morning, I went back with the same problem, only this time the web went around the full circumference of my esophagus. The remaining opening was so small the scope couldn’t go through. They had to do this thing with inflating “balloons” and stretching and the upshot is I’m okay again now, but I feel like the victim of an attempted strangulation. My neck feels bruised to the touch. Swallowing causes the scary tightness feeling that reminds me too much of choking and hurts. You know that tightness in your throat when you’re trying not to cry? It’s that, but constant. Talking hurts too—different pipe, sure, but nestled against the sore spot. I know once the inflammation from the procedure goes down I’ll be okay, but right now . . . right now I’m just sad and annoyed and in pain. My body is so determined to kill me. There are so many things to stay on top of, to keep under control . . . I should’ve been dead a dozen times over by now, but modern medicine keeps patching me up. I feel like a constant science experiment, like Frankenstein’s side project, cobbled together and resurrected. And sometimes, like now, I wonder a little bit what my limit is, why it’s worth all those resurrections, whether I should just take the fucking hint. I mean I won’t. I’ll muddle through. But.
Nobody said it would be easy, but nobody said it would be this hard.

Why is obesity a big problem in Mexico?
Since 1980 the number of deaths from obesity in Mexico has increased more than the number of deaths from malnutrition. 73 percent of women and 69 percent of men have obesity or have overweight. Normal people with a good and healthy weight are abnormal in Mexico because most of the people there eat too much. I think that Mexican people have to eat healthier so that the number of deaths from obesity decreases.
First, some research from American Heart Association. They said in March that sugary beverages are responsible for 22.000 deaths every year. That is the highest rate in the world. Advertisements from companies like Pepsi, Nestle and Coca Cola are the cause of this big problem. Popkin said that the most important factor in Mexico is the marketing of sugary drinks The number of calories has doubled between 1999 and 2006. For children it’s hard to see all these posters showing unhealthy drinks. They don’t really care if they’re healthy or unhealthy, it just has to be tasty for them. So, parents have to say no to their children and that is not easy either.
Second, calories are just one of them. The number of snacks and the number of mega-food markets have also increased. The government responded with a ‘sin tax’ on sugary drinks and since 2011 they force schools to restrict junk food being sold in schools. Another point, they try to get kids active through a famous wrestling star but this was not a success, only 40 percent of the students play a sport. I agree with the government because they have to motivate people to try a sport.
On the other hand, if the measure doesn’t work, they will have to look for a solution or to motivate more. For example, organize a tournament of different sports so that they can see which sports they like. Maybe they don’t have enough knowledge about sports and you can give information how sports work and what the rules are. The best thing is to let them discover it for themselves by playing a game.
To conclude, despite the death from obesity, the government did a good job but they could do even better if they motivate more and if they take more measures on high sugary drinks and unhealthy snacks. Finally, I want to say that parents should take more care of the health of their children but first they have to start with themselves. (G.R)

Impact of COVID-19 on Snacks in Food & Beverage Industry
COVID-19 Impact on Snacks in Food and Beverage Industry
The pandemic have impacted the food and beverages industry by up surging in their consumption globally. Whereas, due to the extended lockdown, food service sector have been drastically impacted in Europe, Americas and all over world. The lockdown have been creating opportunities for the processed snacks and beverages sector due to their demand because of taste, high storage shelf life and attractive availability of waste products.
Before the pandemic, snacking has been considered as a comfort food by the consumers regardless to their health benefits. However, the pandemic have changed the preference of snacks with the consciousness of functional ingredients in their diet and are shifting towards healthy snacking. The healthy snacking concept has been evolved due to the elimination of the contents such as sugar and carbohydrates with functional ingredients.
For instance,
· According to the International Food Information Council’s (IFIC) 2020 Food and Health Survey, 85% of Americans made changes in the food they eat or how they prepare food because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Due to the extended lockdown, consumers become more dependent on the processed food including different types of snacks such as potato chips, dips, tortillas and others. Consumers preferably turns to snacks for their comfort, before COVID-19 have fueled number of food and service sectors. According to a survey conducted, Mondelez have stated that 71% of adults prefer snacking time to connect with themselves and 53% of have responded that snacks for them is more than a meal.
Due to the current scenario, consumers are looking for function snacks products with perspective of immunity booster with mental benefits and relaxation. Creating a new twist to old favorite snacks could be a good option for snacks manufacturers. The snacks industry have shown a significant growth in purchasing in the month of March as consumers stocked up their food supplies to be prepared to stay at home as per the government orders. The potential increase in purchasing of the snacks due to the pandemic may have more lasting impact in fiscal year 2020.

· “Consumer snacking for those employed may actually increase with a reduction of restaurants and kids at home for the rest of the school year in some areas.”
The companies have initiated more responsibility in terms of deliver of the snacking directly to consumers and this has made a new development of “Direct to Consumer (D2C) snacking segment”.
· PepsiCo is one of the major leaders which have entered in DTC market by providing online and e-commerce delivery services of their own brand to consumers on their door step.
Growing preference of function snacks and target of the consumers providing on e-commerce services have led the development and initiatives by the manufacturers to enter in DTC snacks market which will target consumers by using various channels and with the balanced quality and price of healthy snacks. These steps taken by companies will boost the growth of overall snacks market with the strong volume sales in 2020.

- General Mills CEO Je Harmening
CONCLUSION
As the effects of COVID-19 are felt around the world, the food and beverage consumer product manufacturers have been significantly impacted by reduced consumption and disrupted supply chains. With regulatory norms around social distancing across multiple nations, reduced social gatherings were expected to impact the snacking industry to a high extent. However, snack manufacturers have been seeing a stable sale in their products and hence, foresee a steadiness in demand during the coming months of this fiscal year.
On the contrary to expectation, according to IRI reports, salty snacks have been one of the major essential products demanded in retail stores, which has raised the sales of PepsiCo brands Lays and Tostitos by 32% and 42%, respectively. There have been vast changes in the consumption pattern among consumers, wherein “at-home” experimentation with new snacking items has been gaining popularity.
Though, there has been a stable growth in demand for snacks, the purchasing behavior among consumers have greatly disrupted the distribution channels for these products. According to the IR data, e-commerce sales of snacks have grown up by 44% during this pandemic period. Also, in response to the high demand for snacks products through e-commerce sites, the major manufacturers have been focusing on e-commerce as the primary channel for product distribution. For instance, Frito-Lays, one of the major savory snack manufacturers, recently launched snacks.com to boost its direct-to-consumer offerings.
Also, owing to the COVID-19 outbreak, there has been an increasing awareness among consumers, on healthy diet, wherein demand for healthy ingredients has been on a rise. Protein bars and energy bars, along with snacks from healthy ingredients have been gaining demand in the global snacks market. The segment of healthy snacks in this industry is expected to grow substantially during the coming years, with the rising awareness among consumers.
Thus, the impact of pandemic has been neutral for the snacks industry across many nations, as compared to other food product segments, and hence, a stable growth can be observed in the snacks industry during coming years, with many opportunities of new product development for the manufacturers.

Global Nutraceutical Ingredients Market to Exhibit Prolific Growth in the Coming Years – Projected to Reach Worth USD 208.2 Billion in 2027
A recent study conducted by the strategic consulting and market research firm; BlueWeave Consulting revealed that the global nutraceutical ingredients market was worth USD 154.1 billion in the year 2020. It is projected to grow at the CAGR of 4.5% during 2021-2027 (forecast period), earning revenue of around USD 208.2 billion by the end of 2027. The market is expected to grow due to rising consumer demand for nutraceutical ingredients, which provide a variety of health benefits. Its demand is also boosted by its inclusion in fortified foods, preventative healthcare, and dietary supplements, all of which contribute to the growth of the global nutraceutical ingredients market.
However, due to the high cost of nutraceutical products due to expensive raw components, consumer uptake has been poor. Aside from the high price, a lack of knowledge about nutraceutical products, a supply-demand gap, and skepticism regarding the origin of nutraceutical ingredients have all contributed to a decrease in consumer base. Also, unsubstantiated claims made by companies about their products create a poor perception about nutraceutical products, limiting the growth of the global nutraceutical ingredients market.
Need for Preventive Healthcare Driving Nutraceutical Ingredients Market Growth
The alternative healthy solutions provided by nutraceutical ingredients have raised their market demand. With the rise in chronic and infectious diseases, there has been a shift toward choosing preventative healthcare options such as fortified products containing nutraceutical ingredients. The reason for this shift is because nutraceutical additives give additional nutrients, improve immune responses, and increase life span. Thus, nutraceuticals are being incorporated into functional food & beverages, supplements, animal nutrition, and personal care products to promote a healthy lifestyle. For instance, cases of pill fatigue have become quite common in kids and adults, which can be cured by the use of alternative nutraceutical products.
Increasing Demand for Customized Products Expanding the Nutraceutical Ingredients Market
The use of advanced technology by nutraceutical ingredient manufacturers to manufacture customized end products is impacting the growth of the global nutraceutical ingredients market. The manufacturers of nutraceutical ingredients are, therefore, investing in research and development to gather adequate data for accurately analyzing the purchasing behavior and lifestyle of consumers to provide them with customized solutions based on their preferences. For instance, Metabolaid, an app was launched to track the food consumption patterns of individuals and to provide them with customized weight loss solutions.
Dry Segment to Witness Growth in the Forecast Period
Based on the form, the global nutraceutical ingredients market is segmented into dry form and liquid form. The ingredients are extracted from natural sources in dry form. For instance, protein powder and fiber are extracted from the hemp plant. The demand for the dry form of nutraceutical product over its liquid form is attributed to its ease of handling, longer shelf-life, high stability, and manageable transportation process. As a result, manufacturing companies are offering wider nutraceutical products in dry form. Their availability in form of capsules and compressed tablets is expected to grow the demand of dry segment of nutraceutical ingredients globally.

Impact of COVID-19
COVID-19 has had a positive impact on the global nutraceutical ingredients market. The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic led to people investing in immune-boosting food products composed of nutraceutical products, such as Immulina. A large number of doctors had also started prescribing nutraceutical products during the pandemic. This has led to the rise of the nutraceutical ingredients market during the pandemic period. Due to health concerns, consumers have been more medically informed during this time, and have been introduced to a variety of nutraceutical health benefits, such as the reduced risk of heart disease, improved gut flora, and nutritional supplements. These reasons have driven consumers to buy health/dietary supplements with nutraceuticals ingredients over conventional ones globally, which in turn, in sriving the growth of the global nutraceutical ingredients market.
North America Leads the Nutraceutical Ingredients Market
The global nutraceutical ingredients market is categorized into North America, Europe, the Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East & Africa. Among these, the North American market accounted for the largest share in 2020. The growing demand for anti-aging products in this region enhances the use of nutraceutical components in personal care products, thereby propelling the nutraceutical ingredients market forward. Its increased use in pharmaceutical and food industries to manufacture probiotics, homeopathic medicines, and other products is also positively impacting the growth of the nutraceutical ingredients market in North America.
Also, the Asia-Pacific is expected to witness significant growth during the forecast period. The growth in this region can be attributed to the shift in dietary preferences of consumers and their awareness regarding the nutritional benefits of nutraceuticals. Moreover, consumer demand for fortified products containing nutraceutical components is growing year after year in the APAC countries, with India accounting for the greatest proportion of the regional market.
Global Nutraceutical Ingredients Market Competitive Landscape

The principle sources of added sugars within the American weight-reduction plan are sweetened drinks — together with sodas, in addition to sweetened coffees and teas — desserts, snacks, sweet, and breakfast cereals and bars. Most Individuals exceed even the ten p.c benchmark; sugars make up 13 p.c of day by day energy, on common. [Like the Science Times page on Facebook. | Sign up for the Science Times newsletter.] Critics have been disillusioned that the federal companies had ignored the suggestions of the scientific advisory committee. “I’m surprised by the entire thing,” stated Marion Nestle, a professor emerita of diet and meals research at New York College and creator of a number of books on the federal government’s dietary tips. “Regardless of repeated claims that the rules are science-based, the Trump companies ignored the advice of the scientific committee they’d appointed, and as an alternative reverted to the advice of the earlier tips,” she stated. The composition of the dietary advisory committees drew controversy earlier this yr, as a result of most of the specialists had ties to the meat and dairy industries. But the scientists went additional of their recommendation than had earlier committees, significantly with the suggestions to restrict sugar and alcohol, Dr. Nestle stated. “These have been huge modifications, and so they acquired all the eye when the report got here out final summer season for superb causes — and so they have been ignored within the ultimate report,” Dr. Nestle stated. “The report was launched as science-based — they used the phrase science many occasions, and made a giant level about it,” she added. “However they ignored the scientific committee which they appointed, which I believed was astounding.” In different methods, the brand new tips are in step with beforehand issued federal suggestions. Individuals are inspired to eat extra wholesome meals, like greens, fruits, legumes, complete grains, nuts, seafood, low-fat or nonfat dairy, and lean meat and poultry. The rules urge the nation to devour much less sugar, saturated fats, sodium and alcohol, and to restrict calorie consumption. For the primary time, the rules take a “full life-span method,” attempting to sketch out broad recommendation for pregnant and breastfeeding adults and for kids beneath 2. One of many suggestions for pregnant ladies, these about to grow to be pregnant and people who are breastfeeding is to eat ample seafood and fish that’s wealthy in omega-3 fatty acids however low in methylmercury content material, which might have dangerous results on a growing fetus. This dietary sample has been linked to more healthy pregnancies and higher cognitive growth in kids. The brand new tips emphasize the well being advantages of breastfeeding, which has been linked to decrease dangers of weight problems, Kind 1 diabetes and bronchial asthma in kids. Meals which might be potential allergens, like eggs and peanuts, needs to be launched in the course of the first yr of life — after 4 months of age — to scale back the chance of growing allergic reactions. Emergence of Covid-19 to Augment Growth of Global Probiotics Market
Probiotic supplements have been shown to have a number of positive health benefits. They are recommended for a number of health issues and illnesses including digestive disorders, allergies, skin conditions, and immune system deficiencies. The benefits can be found both in humans and animals and some of them cannot be found in natural foods alone. Probiotics are generally believed to improve or restore the healthy balance of the digestive system when taken, usually by boosting or restoring the friendly bacteria living in the intestines. Market Dynamics High prevalence of digestive disorders is expected to propel growth of the global probiotics market. For instance, according to the study, ‘Worldwide incidence and prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease in the 21st century: a systematic review of population-based studies’, published in the journal Lancet in 2018, the prevalence of Crohn's disease in Germany was 22 per 100,000 and 319 per 100,000 in Canada. R&D in probiotics is also expected to offer lucrative growth opportunities for players in the global probiotics market. For instance, in September 2020, a study conducted by researchers from Imperial College London together with the Nestlé Research Center, Lausanne, Switzerland, reported that friendly bacteria found in probiotics such as yogurts and other such foods could help in reducing fat absorption. Moreover, emergence of Covid-19 is also expected to aid in growth of the market. For instance, March 2020, Jetson announced its commitment to provide front-line, essential workers with Immunity, an immunity-supporting probiotic formula, originally developed specifically to support optimal gut health for winter’s cold and flu season. However, probiotics can cause unpleasant side effects in rare instances but are usually considered generally safe for most people to eat. Some people have reactions to eating probiotics and those reactions include diarrhea, stomach upset, and even abdominal pain. In rare cases, people can suffer from liver damage after consuming probiotics. Competitive Analysis Major players operating in the global probiotics market include, BioGaia AB, Chr. Hansen, Groupe Danone S.A., Nestle S.A., Jetson, PROBI AB, Lifeway Foods, Inc., Mother Dairy, General Mills, Inc., China-Biotics, Inc., ADM, Charles & Alice, Yakult Honsha Co., Ltd., and E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company April 2020: Charles & Alice expanded their Fruit Probiotics range to be widely distributed across Mexico. Charles & Alice Kids! Where do I begin? How do I tell this story? I guess the only way I know how.
I am 32 years old, I have carried and birthed 5 beautiful babies into this world, children I am thankful for each day, even more so now. Children I am blessed to hug, laugh with, make memories, and love always.
March 7, 2020 I gave birth to my fifth child. My partner and I both agreed we didn’t want another child for some time and I made the decision to use birth control. I was using the Xulane birth control patch. All was well.
In June 2020 I realized I hadn’t started a period. Surely I wasn’t pregnant but just to be safe we took a test, imagine our surprise to see two lines! Wait! What just happened!?!
It was overwhelming. We were scared. But we accepted it. My partner and I were warming up to the idea of another baby to adore. I found a midwife, I found a hospital that would allow me to have the water birth I always dreamed of having. I was going to stay team green and have my partner announce the gender of our baby to me at birth. I also had decided this would be my last baby for good. I began to envision this life with this child. I felt strongly and deeply in my heart it was a little girl. My heart was overjoyed.
July 14, 2020 we had our first ultrasound scan. We measured 6 weeks! Our baby had a heartbeat, 108 bpm. Everything looked normal. They scheduled us for a follow up scan for two weeks later. During those two weeks I experienced some nausea, my tests were still blazing positive. I craved foods and I was tired. But I was happy.
July 31, 2020 I should have been 8 weeks 3 days. We would see an even bigger baby with an even stronger heartbeat! I couldn’t wait, I had looked forward to this day so much. But when we did the scan my heart sunk. I am not an expert by no means but I’ve had enough babies and scans to know what we should have seen and we were not seeing that. The nurse said it was inconclusive. But I knew, I knew it wasn’t inconclusive. I knew my baby was gone. Taken from me. Why? What had I done wrong? I didn’t drink or do drugs. I took my prenatal vitamins every night before bed.
I came out to the car and burst into tears. Barely able to speak. I was a blubbering mess. My boyfriend was in denial. He didn’t want to believe it. He wanted a second opinion. My body didn’t warn me. It gave me no indication that something was wrong. It still believed it was pregnant. Why oh why? By Monday I began spotting pink. I knew my body was finally beginning to realize what had happened, that we lost the baby. It’s funny people say lost the baby, as if I somehow misplaced it. I didn’t lose it. Where did it go?
Tuesday I saw my old OB who had delivered my other babies. She remained optimistic. She drew blood. She wanted to check my hcg count before proceeding. The next day, Wednesday, August 5, 2020 my Dr called. My hcg count was 2500, that’s normal for a 6 week pregnancy. I knew then my baby had stopped developing right after that first scan. My pink spotting was beginning to turn more red and a bit more heavy.
That night around 7 PM I began bleeding uncontrollably. I was getting blood all over myself and my bathroom. My four year old was scared repeatedly asking me if I was okay. I assured him I would be okay. I finished making dinner, feeding my kiddos and bathing everyone and getting them off to bed. At that point I was soaking a pad in less than an hour. I tried to shower, to get blood off me, but blood poured out of me. It was like a scene from a horror film. I began passing clots. Some were as big as my hands. I started feeling weak, dizzy and faint. Any time I stood I would see spots and darkness. I knew this wasn’t normal.
My boyfriend had to leave for work. He works the overnight shift. Fortunately my mom was here. I hadn’t even announced my pregnancy yet but I had the unfortunate experience of having to explain to her what was going on. As I crawled my way out of the shower trying to dress myself with blood still running down my legs, my mom petrified, she called 911.
The ambulance rushed me to the hospital. My blood pressure remained stable. My heart was pounding against my chest, it was in a state of tachycardia. My hemoglobin levels were low at a 10. The nurse assigned to me immediately set up an IV, took blood and urine. The ER doctor said my hcg levels were now at 1700, they were definitely going down. Another ultrasound scan confirmed the pregnancy was no longer viable. At that point the doctor felt comfortable administering me medication to help with the cramping and bleeding.
They did a pelvic exam. The ER doctor gently used a speculum to open me up and used forceps to remove clots, lots of clots. Once he believed he had gotten them all he could get to my ER nurse took wipes and began cleaning my legs and feet for me. My bleeding began to slow down. My heart rate was still high though. Even after IV fluids my hemoglobin levels had gone down another 2 points. They wanted me to stay overnight, they talked about a possible D&C and blood transfusion.
But I couldn’t stay. My boyfriend at work, my grandma refusing to help and my mom having her own health issues (osteoarthritis & fibromyalgia) I had to make it home to my other kids. I sadly had to sign myself out of the hospital against medical advice. At 2 in the morning I waited for my Uber to take me home. I sat in the backseat of someone’s car wearing the pants I came to the hospital in, soaked and stained with blood. Praying that I didn’t bleed on their seat and get charged a cleaning fee.
I made it home. Shortly afterward my four month old awakened, I went to make him a bottle, feeling weak and dizzy again, I sat on my kitchen floor trying to regain my composure and ability to walk and stand. While sitting there, my heart pounding out of my chest and sounds slowly fading out I blacked out and fainted. I awoke after smacking my forehead and elbow into the high chair and my mom jumping up as quickly as I had ever seen her move in months, crying she said “You fell, you passed out.” I laid on the floor crying and telling her I couldn’t finish making the bottle. My mom made it and gave it to my baby for me.
I forced myself to eat and drink water. Still feeling weak I dragged myself to bed and slept. I woke up the next day feeling tired, my body sore, still a little shaky and weak but somehow I survived. I was lucky. I didn’t need the blood transfusion after all. Somehow my body pulled through on its own, maybe with some help from God or my guardian angel.
I called my Dr office and informed them I miscarried. They said they were sorry for my loss. My Dr will do blood draws every week until my hcg levels return to 0. Then they will know my body did the work of emptying the uterus of all the contents of this pregnancy. My body let go, but my heart is another story.
Physically I know I will heal. This physically pain won’t last forever. There will come a day when my bleeding stops all together. My body will feel great. But my heart doesn’t know better. My heart doesn’t want to let go, it wasn’t ready to say goodbye, when we never even got the chance to say hello.
Emotionally I feel like I’m being tortured, I feel like I’m living a nightmare. I don’t know why this happened to me. I will never have answers. I’m angry with God, why would he take my baby from me? I’m angry with my body for failing me. I want my baby back, but I know that won’t ever happen.
Last night I laid on the floor of my bathtub while water streamed down me from the shower head. I wasn’t even interested in showering. It was just somewhere to go to escape. I put on a strong front all day for my mom and kids but in the shower I cry. I allow the grief to wash over me and the water drowns out my tears. Those gut wrenching, soul crushing, tears, the kind that makes your nose snot up and you feel the lump in your throat and you can literally feel your heart breaking. I prayed to God harder than I ever have before. I prayed for strength. I prayed for comfort and peace. I prayed for understanding. I prayed that God mend my broken heart.
It’s a rollercoaster of emotions honestly. I’m terrified of ever becoming pregnant again. What if this happens again? I don’t know if I can bear this pain again. This pain is unbearable. It’s a pain and emptiness I wouldn’t wish even upon my worst enemy. I know if there ever is a next time I will spend that entire pregnancy in fear. Fear of becoming attached and losing another baby. I never thought it would or could happen to me until it did and now here I am. 1 in 4 is not just a statistic. I am that 1 in 4. And it’s truly heartbreaking. My dreams are shattered. This has got to be the most traumatic experience of my life ever.
On the other side never becoming pregnant again envelopes me in fear as well. What if I become infertile after this? What if I’m never able to achieve pregnancy again? I want my rainbow baby someday. I know my heart will never fully heal until I have my rainbow baby nestled safely in my arms. The thing is I don’t know when/if that will ever happen for me. And so I sit and wait in this limbo of emotional turmoil. Even a rainbow baby would never replace this angel baby of mine. I will always hold onto this sadness to some degree. It will never just go away, I will never stop talking about and remembering my baby. There will never be another day I live that I don’t think of my baby and all the what ifs.
I’m triggered by the foods I ate while pregnant. I’m triggered by the births of healthy newborns and others announcing their pregnancies. Why do they get to keep their baby but I didn’t get to keep mine? That sounds selfish. But it feels unfair. It is unfair. Nothing about this is right or okay. I randomly cry throughout the day, silently.
I don’t even know the gender of my baby. I submitted my ultrasound scan to the Ramzi theory group; 3 boy guesses and 2 girl guesses. I will never know until someday I get to meet my baby in Heaven and hold my baby in my arms. I hope my baby is safe and healthy and happy in the arms of Jesus right now. I hope my baby knows I loved them so so much and wanted them more than anything in this world. I would do anything to have you sweet baby with me again.
This is my story. This is miscarriage. This is what it feels like. There is no simple way of explaining it. I’m part of a special group of women that now have their very own and very special angel watching over them. I will never forget you. In my heart you live forever. Until we meet again...

Breastfeeding is an activity that causes a very intimate bond to develop between mother and child. However, there comes a moment when you need to wean the baby for various reasons. This is the moment when you also need to make a decision about the milk your child will feed on. It's a responsible decision that requires parents to have the right knowledge and a perfect, trustworthy recipe that will ensure healthy development for babies that produce milk for babies.
In the children's store, you can find a lot of baby milk mixtures. They differ primarily in the brand, within which there are products of different compositions, both for healthy children and those prone to allergies. Choosing the right milk can, therefore, be a problem, so you should learn how to choose milk to provide your child with a set of necessary vitamins and minerals.
How to choose milk for a newborn baby?
The most important criterion for choosing formula is the child's age. Depending on how old the baby is, the mixes vary in composition and nutrient content to best suit your children's needs. The next milk contains more iron than the first milk, because the demand for this ingredient increases - the same is true with other vitamins and minerals.
Information on the destination of age milk is always visible on its packaging. Designations are numbers from 1 to 4 and additional descriptions from which month of life you can feed your child a given mixture. The table below shows the markings and descriptions.
Milk composition is another extremely important criterion. When choosing a mixture, it is good to pay attention to those brands that contain more ingredients in their products than just those whose presence is regulated by law.
amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "dailytrends05-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_design = "enhanced_links"; amzn_assoc_asins = "B07NJPW1SQ"; amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "94a946c65eff2ae785709cdb5ee9714b";
The basic composition of milk includes demineralized whey powder (source of protein), vegetable oils (contain vitamin E and D), lactose (it is not present in the case of mixtures for children with allergies to this ingredient), skimmed milk powder, complex carbohydrates acting as probiotics (galactooligosaccharides, fructooligosaccharides), whey protein concentrate, calcium carbonate and phosphate (calcium source), potassium chloride and citrate (sources of potassium), L-ascorbic acid and sodium L-ascorbate (sources of vitamin C), magnesium chloride (source magnesium), choline chloride (a source of choline - an essential component of cellular building materials), soy lecithin (emulsifier - dissolves milk in water), taurine and L-carnitine (amino acids), sodium citrate (sodium source), ferric sulfate (iron source), sulfate zinc (source of zinc), vitamins: A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6,B7, B11, B12, C, D, E and K.
Additional ingredients that you should pay attention to when choosing milk:
LCPUFA fatty acids, omega-3 - have a good effect on the brain. They improve visual acuity, build brain structures and help develop brain cognition
prebiotics - are food for probiotics. Thanks to their properties, they make the baby's poop softer, which prevents constipation
probiotics - bacteria living in the intestine, whose task is to support the body's immunity. They help fight microbes in the intestines and accompany the absorption of nutrients. They also alleviate the symptoms of lactose intolerance.
Another extremely important selection criterion is the adaptation of milk to the baby and his problems. Many mixtures are created for children suffering from various allergies and nutritional problems. Such milk is marked with symbols appropriate to the problem for which they were created.
Four types of special milk are listed below along with their purpose and labeling on the packaging: milk for people with allergies - these are preparations for children allergic to cow's milk protein. These are special mixtures that a child can only take if he or she receives a prescription from a doctor's milk for children at risk of food allergy - they are marked with the symbol HA. Their special formula reduces the chance of an allergic reaction to cow's milk protein in children who, for various reasons, may be exposed to it. The risk is reduced due to the fragmentation of the protein, which in this formless often causes allergies and is easier to absorb anti-reflux milk - they are marked with the symbol AR. It's special milk for children who pour down food. They contain special substances that thicken food, thanks to which, they prevent milk from returning from the stomach to the mouth, milk for children with appetite problems - marked with the symbol GR or R. It contains gruel, which makes them more filling. Thanks to this, those who eat will get a greater number of calories, and children who have too much appetite will feel full faster.
What is the best milk for a newborn baby? Which choose?
amzn_assoc_tracking_id = "dailytrends05-20"; amzn_assoc_ad_mode = "manual"; amzn_assoc_ad_type = "smart"; amzn_assoc_marketplace = "amazon"; amzn_assoc_region = "US"; amzn_assoc_design = "enhanced_links"; amzn_assoc_asins = "B001JA85K2"; amzn_assoc_placement = "adunit"; amzn_assoc_linkid = "61d31b0f7cee1ea5906fefa31a708f48";
Among dairy products for newborns, there are many companies and producers who are popular on the market. These types of milk are not suitable for children who are allergic to the protein, because they contain them in finely divided form.
Products that are great for allergy sufferers are Bebilon HA, NAN HA, and Humana HA. They all come in different versions suited to the child's age.
What milk for the hospital?
There are situations in which mothers are unable to feed the newborn baby immediately after birth. This may be due to the lack of milk production, which may appear only several dozen hours after delivery. Regardless of the reason, it's a good idea to have a modified milk blend with you to give your baby the right food.
Companies that have mixtures for children from birth include Neste NAN, Humana, and Bebiko.

On the packaging of each mix, you will find detailed information on how to make baby milk. Before preparing a meal, read the instructions, and follow its recommendations to ensure your child has a well-balanced meal. Before preparing a meal for a child, make sure that the dishes used for preparation and the bottle from which the child will drink are properly sterilized. For the preparation of the mixture, low-mineralized mineral water should be used, which contains less than 500 mg of dissolved ingredients in 1 liter. It should also be low-sodium (below 20 mg of sodium ions per 1 l). The powder should be poured into boiled water at a temperature of 40 - 50 degrees, then mix properly so as not to leave lumps in the mixture.
How much milk for a newborn baby?
In the early stages of a child's life, they should be fed 7-8 times a day, because the portions that the child can eat at one time are small. Children aged 11-12 months should be given five meals, three of which are dairy. It is best to serve meals every 3 to 4 hours. A child around the age of 6 months should consume about 180 ml of modified milk daily. With the inclusion of solid foods in the diet, the amount of daily milk intake decreases. Children aged 2-3 years take about 1000 mg of calcium daily (about 400 ml of milk). Therefore, follow the instructions on the modified milk box packaging and remember about regular feeding intervals.
What is the milk temperature for the newborn?
Before giving the baby milk, you need to properly boil the water that is used to make it. After boiling it, wait until the water temperature drops to about 40 - 50 degrees. Only then should you add the powder and mix the food thoroughly. To make sure your child's meal is not too hot, pour a little on the inside of your wrist. The water should be warm, not hot or lukewarm - this is a sign that it is suitable for giving to the toddler.

When storing modified milk, you should stick to four simple rules that will help ensure its freshness for as long as possible.
Modified infant milk should be kept in a cool and dry place at temperatures below 25 degrees.
After opening the milk container, use within four weeks. After this time, the nutrients weather and the milk may be harmful to your baby's health.
Modified milk should not be transferred to other containers. However, if you make such a decision, you need to make sure that they are tight, and the original packaging should be kept because of the information on its shelf-life, nutritional values and preparation instructions.
The box with modified milk must be properly secured. It must be tight so that the food does not get stale and nothing undesirable can get into it.
By following these four principles of safe milk storage for the newborn, you can be sure that the mix will retain freshness and nutritional value as promised by the manufacturer.
