Last night's Neo Burlesque with my friend, @indigo.legend 's choreography. A high-energy combo, so I may have fudged a few moves because a girl gets tired!

The fight in a Toronto strip club which led on to much, much more (Part 1 of 3)
Back in March, in a follow-up to a piece I posted ten years before (in 2014) I posted a new 4-part blog which started out about a Toronto strip club called Le Strip and then veered into totally true and unexpected tales of Canadian spies, neo-Nazis, double-crosses, counterfeiting, 1980s terrorism, US white supremacists, South African secret agents and much else. All this came from the far-from…

Walkerverse Character Tier List
Hello Walker Family! I'm here announcing the beginning of the Walkerverse Character Tier List series!
I've created a list of characters from Walker and Walker: Independence to put in a tier list ranking. I will be releasing a series of polls with all these characters (including pictures and brief reminders of their roles) to determine which Tier List ranking they get. Whichever option from S to F gets the most votes will become the official ranking of that character.
Here is the criteria I used to select the characters I'm putting in the poll series:
They must have a name on the imdb page
They must have a minimum of two appearances
I have to remember them, regardless of their appearance count
Single appearances that were special/memorable will also be included (ex: Uncle Willy, Minnie Jayne)
The rankings will be as follows:
S tier: Best character in the show, love them with all my heart, they can do literally nothing wrong
A tier: Beloved blorbo, one of my favorites, I'd want to be friends with them if they were real
B tier: I like them, but I have my critiques. A good character that I mostly enjoy
C tier: Mid character, not the biggest fan of them but I won't complain when they show up
D tier: I don't like them. I have many criticisms of their actions and personality. I may even dislike whole episodes because of them
F tier: Literally the worst character in the entire show. Hate them. Much dislike. I fastforward over them on rewatches.
I currently have pictures (for the poll and the complete tierlist that I will link when it is public) for 39 of the 120+ characters I put on the list, so that's where I will be starting. I will include the full list of all the characters from both shows below the cut along with the taglist.
The first poll will go up on Monday, September 23rd! Can't wait to see what you guys think!

I know I said I was gonna quit posting Lene Lovich but I wanted to share "The Insect Eater" about Renfield taking orders from Dracula with the vibe of something Danny Elfman would have written for a good Tim Burton / Henry Selick movie. If she's not already involved in the Neo-Burlesque scene, somebody rectify that now

still dicking around with my Triple Threat design
Bruce Timm-ish/Batman: The Animated Series-style character rendering. Some Tuxedo Mask inspiration snuck in with all the roses... maybe she throws them to initiate battling evil doers?
I actually really don't like superhero shit (tough considering the direction VBros took in later seasons), but even with my distaste I wanted to do justice to the references.
🌹 more 🌹 →
🌹 Triple Threat in the 1980s
🌹 Rose Whalen (old)
🌹 Billy's prom date
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Triple Threat's costume is meant to represent a Broadway chorine, but also it's a bit like a majorette... antiquated military uniform but pantsless. Very gendered. The old-fashioned/family friendly version of sexy... but not TOO sexy.
Visual reference to both the pants-less white tie tails of Zatanna the magician of DC Comics and the stage costumes from the "burlesque" Broadway musical revue Sugar Babies
The revue starred Mickey Rooney in his Broadway debut, Ann Miller... The revue subsequently had a short-lived National tour which starred Carol Channing and Robert Morse, from August through November 1980. (Carol Channing is the model for Rose's speaking voice, obvs.)
Billy's mom as a character sucks— she's introduced as [out-of-touch old person] who becomes [smothering mother] archetype— but in just a few appearances implies potential depths not explored. She's the only canon character I've written aside from Billy & White, in a series of flashbacks to Billy's childhood with her in Boy Genius (← read it on AO3)
Tumblr media
Based on the hair, this flashback is mid-1960s. Maybe a bit later. OG Team Venture have been painted as Jonny Quest, Doc Savage and the Fabulous Five and James Bond, but this scene has a real TV Batman '66 feel to it. Best arena for a campy Broadway-musical-themed crime-fighter.
Triple Threat would be interesting to explore in the trajectory of comic book superheroes going from Golden Age goofy to the '80s X-treme en-darkening/en-seriousning (imagine Triple Threat reimagined as a Punisher type). At the same time, her Pollyanna American Exceptionalism/Moral Purity message (that Action Man wants to soil with his filth) would get dragged through the mud as she makes "hard choices" aka being a hypocrite in service of her all-American values.
She buys into moral panics. She warns against rock and roll and drugs, despite being a Baby Boomer. She is defiantly "a square" (as well as gullible to propaganda).
Female Conservatives are fascinating as they are gross. The Anti-Feminist Feminist. She's never shown to be motivated by religious fundamentalism (she seems fine with the possibility of her son being gay), it's more insidious than that. Is she machiavellian like a super-powered Phyllis Schlafly or, like the moral panic stuff, she's really gullible to conservative messaging? I see her more as a Kissinger Neo-Con than a MAGA conspiracy rube. She's not angry or hateful in her conservativeness, just reactionary and myopic.
Another ill-defined aspect... does Triple Threat have superpowers? She can still do flying leap kicks at age 60ish which suggests she's more than just "really good at fighting." What if she had been part of some Captain America super-serum ultimate-soldier program that screws her up medically, later causing Billy's genetic birth defects? Is she filled with guilt? Angry at the government for not telling her about the side effects?

BIOGRAPHY.
SUBSTANCE USE TW, ADDICTION TW
Much like your last name, you were born to be a star. Your mother is Delphine Starling, a well-known actress in Neo Hollywood, and you were always expected to follow in her footsteps. You were enrolled in singing and acting classes from the momeny you could form more than a sentence, and though you protested at first, you found a passion in the arts. You were drawn more to singing than acting, but you endured the small commercial appearances or guest roles you mother got you only to attempt to catch a glimpse of approval from her--- something that has eluded you even now.
Though you tried, you were never enough for your mother. She wanted you to become a doppleganger of herself, to replicate the legacy she carved for herself, and you always managed to fall short of her expectations. It didn't matter that you had a good singing voice and the potential to go all the way--- she wanted an actress who could take over her roles once she outgrew the limelight. This burden weighed on your shoulders for years, but you finally pulled away from your mother's dreams and explored your own once you turned 20.
You began going to the cabaret as a teenager--- quietly sneaking in the back to observe the performers from afar, but it wasn't until you became of age that you found the will to audition for an entertainer slot. You managed to impress the owner enough to get put on the roster, and soon enough, you became a regular presence at the cabaret. You finally felt like you had found your niche, and you were hoping to share that enjoyment with your mother, but your mother refused to step foot in the establishment. She called it too "pedestrian and grungy" for someone of their caliber and said that working there was an embarrassment to the Starling name.
Your mother's harsh words sent you into a spiral, and you ended up having a breakdown on stage in the middle of your set. You abandoned the cabaret soon afterwards, instead choosing to spend your time and inheritance on partying, drinking, and doing substances. Your habit became so bad that you turned to the MARA cartel to get your fix--- something that you'd come to regret years later.
Now, you're back at the cabaret and hoping to put the last few years behind you, but old habits die hard. You forced yourself back into the spotlight that you fled so quickly because the weight of your debts are becoming too much, but with the stage presence comes the memories of your mother's disappointment and your breakdown. You want to do better and make your mother proud, but you know you're one step away from falling back down to rock bottom, but this time, you're not sure you'd be able to make it out of there alive.
WANTED CONNECTIONS.

Week of July 15th
This week was a little crazy and filled with so many blessings, if you believe in that sort of thing haha. Some many great things happened this week and I wanted to share and collect my thoughts in one place.
Podcast
I was asked to be on Victor Devonnes Burlesque's podcast. I was supposed to record on Thursday of this week but I had to push it back for a photo shoot ( speak on that further down) I am looking forward to being able to share my story and the things that inspire me. Is it weird that I'm excited to chat about my thought process on how I go along creating an act or a costume? Its not super special but ice always been curious to see how my differs from others. like where does someone inspo come from when they are creating a new persona? When I first understood I wanted to do burlesque and create a persona so different from my own life. I sought out different looks and fashion eras I liked as a child. As a black kid growing up in Nebraska idolizing the spice girls and their fashion I dared not mimiced it in fear of being called ‘fast’ or white because of my interests. The ability of being able to LOUD and BRIGHT with my fashion and accesories made me excited to create this persona.
Even though I created this being that was supposed to ‘free’ me I still found myself being stifled and having some fear about being.. too done up or coming across as a clown. A fear I've just learned how to shead and understand that my art wasnt created for the male or even female gaze. So I am looking forward to that. Thank you for coming to my TED TALK
Podcast pt2
A decade ago I used to work for a podcast based out of Florida. I would interview porn stars or actors that appeared on tv shows on max, hbo etc.. C list or D list celebs. I was playing with the idea of possibly doing a podcast and chatting with different queer artists chat about their queerness, art and other shit that inspires them. I know what youre thinking.. Purris, everyone has a podcast now a damn days. ITS JUST A THOUGHT. I bring it up because the person who run it reached out to be about becoming a personality again. So I asked him if he was looking for new programming. I’m still working on ideas so I am able to present a stable idea to him. Who knows, could be nothing could be somthing.
Daisy Jones Locker Shoot
I had my first photoshoot with a local business based out of Nebraska and I had an absolute blast! the director of the photoshoot saw a reel of mine and really enjoyed the aesthetic and asked me to join the photo shoot the following week. So I wanted to share a few images :) I can see myself coming back to the photo spot for personal photo before the summer is up. Iowa is good for that lol.
