Nazareno Cruz y el lobo (Nazareno Cruz and the Wolf) | 1975 | Leonardo Favio | Argentina
"Nazareno Cruz is a young Gaucho living in a rural town. He is known for being the seventh son of his father, and so he is seen by the locals as the victim of the werewolf curse. Despite this he lives happily in the community. When Nazareno is about to turn 18 he meets Griselda and they both fall in love. Soon after, "Mandinga" (the Devil) presents himself to Nazareno and explains that his curse is real. Mandinga makes Nazareno a proposition: if Nazareno gives up his love, he will receive in exchange his freedom and many riches. Nazareno refuses the deal and eventually turns into a werewolf, becoming involved in a series of tragedies."

Full Moon Features: Nazareno Cruz and the Wolf (1975)
The people at Severin Films continue to do the Lord’s work — or perhaps it’s the Devil’s — with their folk horror series All the Haunts Be Ours, now on its second volume. The first yielded Wilczyca, about a Polish she-wolf bedeviling her husband. The new one, just out this month, brings with it 1975’s Nazareno Cruz and the Wolf, by Argentine filmmaker Leobardo Favio. It revolves around the…

Nazareno Cruz and the Wolf (Leonardo Favio, 1975)
Boy destined to become a wolf. Bliss of a prophecy seemingly allayed. Torment of a prophecy fulfilled. Rhapsodic to an unbelievable degree. Near constant wailing and wind. The very definition of heightened, and with a visual vocabulary to push it even further. I don’t think i’ve ever seen anything like this. Superimpositions and layers, camera everywhere, foreground fighting background and this wolf boy caught between. It’s actually at its least interesting when he’s brought down into hell.

145/ THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES (2009)
In 1999, retired Argentinian federal justice agent Benjamín Espósito is writing a novel, using an old closed case as the source material. That case is the brutal rape and murder of Liliana Coloto. In addition to seeing the extreme grief of the victim's husband Ricardo Morales, Benjamín, his assistant Pablo Sandoval, and newly hired department chief Irene Menéndez-Hastings were personally affected by the case as Benjamín and Pablo tracked the killer, hence the reason why the unsatisfactory ending to the case has always bothered him. Despite the department already having two other suspects, Benjamín and Pablo ultimately were certain that a man named Isidoro Gómez is the real killer. Although he is aware that historical accuracy is not paramount for the novel, the process of revisiting the case is more an issue of closure for him. He tries to speak to the key players in the case, most specifically Irene, who still works in the justice department and who he has always been attracted to ...
In 2009, it was the recipient of awards in both Hollywood and Spain. The movie won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 82nd Academy Awards, and, with 1985's The Official Story, made Argentina the first country in Latin America to win it twice. Three weeks before, it had received the Spanish equivalent with the Goya Award for Best Spanish Language Foreign Film. As of 2010, it was only surpassed at the Argentine box office by Leonardo Favio's 1975 classic Nazareno Cruz and the Wolf (Nazareno Cruz y el lobo).
