Ahoy, my fellow landlubbers! Today, we celebrate a day that’s not just marked on calendars but etched into the hearts of millions—October 13, the birthday of the U.S. Navy! Founded in 1775 as the Continental Navy during the American Revolution, our Navy has been sailing the seas of courage, honor, and commitment for 249 years. And let me tell you, being the daughter of a World War II Navy…

Moving sucks
One thing I rarely see people talk about is how hard it can be to unpack your stuff after a move. In the beginning, you're really excited. You've been living without most of your clothing and other positions for who knows how long, and now you finally get to have them back. You open one box after another until you find it. A broken or damaged item. A precious memory of the life you've just left reduced to tiny fragments or bent out of shape. It crushes your spirit, but you move on until you find another and then another. The joy you felt finally getting you're stuff back is completely gone, and instead, before you sits a physical reminder of your sorrow over leaving your previous home and your anxiety about your new one.
As a military brat, I went through this proses every two to three years, and it never got any easier. One day you leave the house you've worked so hard to make a home fully intact, and when you get back, the movers have completely gutted it. Despite only living in the house for a couple years, its emptiness is so overwhelming. Now all your stuff is in the hands of people you barely know, and you have to trust it will reach its destination safely, but you know some of it won't.
I just got my stuff back, and I started unpacking, but I gave up. My room is littered with boxes, but I have no energy to finish. Some people might think that military families have it easy because people do most of the work for us, but moving is still a major struggle for us. When you move constantly, the only permanent thing in your life is your possessions, so to see them broken and damaged is heartbreaking.

It's actually kind of odd to me that even in lower decks, where the main characters being low-level workers is literally the point, we never see enlisted starfleet members.
The warp core four are all ensigns. They're still officers, even if they're junior officers (and tbh, a lot of the work they do is actually work that should be done by noncommissioned petty officers, not ensigns).
This makes some sense for who the characters are. The daughter of a captain and an admiral is obviously going to attend the academy and start out as an officer. Similarly, the heiress of the 5th largest orion syndicate family simply isn't going to be enlisted, I don't care how egalitarian and post-scarcity your utopia is. And someone like boimler who's main goal is to become captain would need to be an officer to achieve that. These choices make sense for the characters in question.
But it does feel weird to me that we never see enlisted members in a show that is literally called lower decks. I mean it's confirmed in multiple episodes of TNG and DS9 that starfleet has enlisted members (which of course they do, starfleet is literally just U.S. Navy In Space) so that seems like an obvious thing to include in the show.
I think the actual reason for this is probably just that mike mcmahan didn't grow up in a military family, learned everything he knows about military rank from star trek, and then when he was first storyboarding and googled navy ranks it was officer ranks that came up first.
Like I'm fairly certain, based on every interview I've seen with mcmahan, and also some of the plots in lower decks, that he just isn't a guy who knows a lot about the military. But honestly, I think that's kind of a bummer because you could milk a lot of comedy out of there being an even lower lower decks that the main four interact with.

being a military brat is only getting your father's approval when you start considering enlisting in the same branch he was

so i did start mass effect again. lol. i really enjoy all the references to Shepard’s backstory in ME; i know why they scaled it back in 2 and especially 3, but its just nice to hear my Shepard/other characters talking about who she is before the events of the game and how those things affected her ❤️

Glad Holly get the chance to tell Victor she broke his dick but god, what a shitshow that final Victor showdown was. Holly wasted time bragging, and Drew almost killed Liesl and gave Victor the opportunity to escape.
The worst part is Carly and her ilk are going to try to gaslight the audience into thinking Drew was a hero, but he was genuinely the only person in Greenland who contributed absolutely nothing.
He rescued no one, and he actively made things worse. Nina can ease up on any guilt she might feel about siccing the SEC on him after this tragic display.

going BACK the funny thing about that poll actually is if you heard the fact ‘yeah i’ve moved like. eighteen times or something’ and the additional fact of ‘oh yeah my dad was in the navy’ you’d go ‘oh military brat’ but NO!!!! COMPLETELY unrelated facts!

I'm very confused, this isn't a Bucky-centric blog URL, why would you need to shift from it?
Like, don't get me wrong, even if it was BuckyXReader as the URL its still your blog your choice...
But this isn't even a Bucky URL. It's a you URL. You are the Navy brat. Not Bucky.
Nonnie, I just want you to know that I read this, said out loud "I AM THE NAVY BRAT!", and giggled. Sorry, I'm still a bit tired. 😂
Tumblr media
This happens occasionally. When I wrote a bunch of stuff for Scott Huffman, I got grief for not writing for Bucky. I do realize that a huge chunk of my writing is for Bucky, but I can thirst outside of him. I don't get it.
Not to mention, the thought of changing my URL and updating my posts frightens me. I could never.
I share nonsense on my blog and there will be more to come. I hope you're having a great day! Love and thanks. ❤️

In your defense it was the week before your period and Mike looked so fucking good, jeans low on his hips and T-shirt clinging to his arms.
“Mike,” you whined with your shoulder hunched forward to show your sadness. “C’mon, who’s really gonna break into an old abandoned kids play place? It’s just a creepy dump.”
Mike had his back facing you as he dug around in one of his drawers looking for something. His shoulders tensed and raised slightly towards his ears as he sighed.
“Don’t start, please. You know I need this job. For Abby,” he rasped. It hurt your heart to see how tired he was. You knew he needed a break.
Searching for some new material to use against him in your argument, your eyes traveled the room. They passed over the bare walls with no luck and continued until they landed on his bed. Navy blue, rough material caught your eye. Mike’s security vest lay discarded on the bed. Your face lit up with mischief.
“Well, if I can’t convince you,” your voice trailed off as you inched towards the mattress. With your eyes locked on Mike’s back to make sure he didn’t turn around, you snatched the best into your grip. A triumphant smile pulled at your lips as you slid the material over your shoulders.
“I’m sorry, baby. I’ll make it up to-,” Mike’s words cut off as he turned and saw you. His face fell impossibly more at the sight, but you saw the light that filled his eyes. You knew he just didn’t want to leave you when you looked so fucking good in his vest.
“Okay, that’s real cute. Now give it.”
He held his hand out, waiting patiently for you to hand over the cloth. His eyebrows raised in annoyance when you only smirked and crossed your arms. You took a single step backwards and his face morphed into one you only saw when you were being a true brat.
“Do not,” He warned. Your smile widened. He took a step forward. You stepped back again. That did it. Mike lunged towards you and you spun on your heel, sprinting off.
It didn’t take long for Mike to catch up. Big, warm, and calloused hands gripped your hips tightly and yanked you back into a hard chest. You didn’t have time to process before you were being spun around and lifted off your feet. Your lower abdomen folded over a broad shoulder, you chest hitting Mike’s back as you were tossed over his shoulder like a potato sack.
You were still disoriented and grappling at the back off his shirt when Mike’s big hand smacked down on your left ass cheek.
“You just never fuckin’ listen,” He growled as he carried you back into his room.
Send in Mike requests <3
