another song that i previously wasn't familiar with until i discovered it in a character playlist!!! i like the song though. it reminds me of this friend of mine who likes hole. she once did a photoshoot similar to the album cover of this song i think.

OKAY ANYWAY. i crossed out "hate" to say dislike instead bc its not like i hate natsuki, not as much as i hate horropedia AHHAHAHHAHAH, but natsuki just... isn't a fave of mine. there's characters that i like more than her. tsunderes are just not my thing. but that's only when it comes to the canon game! she's really annoying in the game due to the nature of how it's written as a stereotypical dating sim. but i think she can be pretty cool when depicted in fanworks!

this was really fun and interesting to work on, since it was my first time creating banners from scratch and not using a photo i found online as a banner and editing it slightly and calling it a day. i kind of struggled trying to fill the space in the first banner and at first i didn't know what to do with it. also i'm not too satisfied with its colors but i don't really feel like changing it...

i did 2 kinds of pfps where it's a transparent sprite/photo and another where there's a frame. i think ones with transparent backgrounds are rather popular right now on tumblr so i wanted to edit those as well.

also, oh my god im listening to doll parts right now as i type this ramble and this song fits natsuki SO much?

lastly i joined this event quite late so ahahahha i hope i have enough time to complete the prompts, especially during such a busy week... why did i join 3 events again..............................

what can I say. it's the no.1 highest earning joseimuke of recent times for a reason. i wouldn't say it was the founding father of male idol franchises but it's undoubtedly important for them and the popularization of them. the characters are enjoyable and the story writing is (sometimes) done pretty nicely. when the songs hit well they hit GOOD. with a cast of over 50 characters you're pretty bound to find someone you'll enjoy, you know. there's a nice variation on unit archetypes that is great for music variation :]

There's just soo much happening in this goddamn idol thing I hope it loses bleehh

Idol game except the plot is NOT what you would expect of an idol game. Notably : murder, the War, vampires, and a guy who lives in the vents.

SUCH a unique concept. I love it so much. Delivering insight into characters crimes and psyches through music?! Genius. And the music all slaps too. The VAs are all super talented, the voices all sound different from one another, and even when a character's music style switches between T1 and T2 to reflect their mental state, there are still things making it obvious it's the same character. Also the VA for Haruka (best character in MILGRAM) is the guy who voiced Linhardt (best character in hit turn-based strategy RPG Fire Emblem: Three Houses for the Nintendo Switch) in the JP soooo. Awesome and based, Fire Emblem fans vote for this one. (Also I think there's other overlap of VAs with Fire Emblem but like Natsuki Hanae has been in everything so of course there is)

genuinely so sooo interesting to me from a standpoint. not only is a franchise that runs and happens in direct response to what the fans decide to do with it but also the songs and mvs are sooo good and it's such a nice thing to see coming off of deco, feeling like a passion project with all the different song style and experimentation going on in them. ive been there since the beginnings and its a great feeling to see just how much everyone involved in the project be it art, music etc has improved. the moral experiment point of it is something very curious to follow for me and see people discussing their votes or takes on things as to why they voted for x thing or another is nice! the deco song remixes that always come with the characters album release are (mostly) fire too. milgram my best friend milgram

The songs are absolute bangers!! And each character is so compelling and it's really interesting to see how the audience's votes impact the story and the characters!

Summary:You know Yuri loves horror stories, and she loves you, so what better way to spend Halloween. All you need is tea,cupcakes, a fireplace, and some good literature

A/n:I already did post saying how similar yuri and Veronika are and how much i love both of them, so it's only fitting she'd be the second girl i'd do a Halloween post about

Yuri was perfectly prepared for your date. The tea was cooling down on the kitchen counter and she pulled all the horror books she had out of the shelves and on a table near the fireplace so that you could choose which one you wanted to read when you came. After a day spent writing poems, she wanted nothing more than to relax with her love

*knock, knock*

Perfect timing. Yuri went to her door and opened it, her smile widening when she saw you

"Hello dear, I'm glad you came"

"Don't mention it"

You kissed her cheek and she blushed but still kept a smile on her face as she let you in

"I put some books that we can read together, you just choose one, I'll go bring the food meanwhile"

"Sounds great"

While yuri went into the kitchen, you started to look at the books. You noticed that they were all horror stories, yuri probably wanted to get into Halloween mood.

You picked (your favorite horror book) and began reading it, but you were quickly interrupted by your girlfriend coming into the living room with a tray with a teapot, two cups and a plate of cupcakes on it.

"I assume natsuki made those. How did you get her to agree to bake them for you if you don't mind me asking"

Yuri poured the tea into the two cups while answering you

"W-well, I just asked sayori to tell her they were for her.....I didn't think she'd say yes if I asked her.....me and her don't really go along that well"

"Yeah, I get that, but at least we got free cupcakes"

"Eh...yes and I'm sure they're delicious"

After she finished pouring the tea, the purple haired girl grabbed a blanket she had prepared beforehand and covered you with it

"Oh, thanks, there's already the fire, though."

"I know, but I get cold quite easily. If it's too hot, I'll pull it off"

"Oh no, don't worry, it's fine"

She mumbled a thanks with a smile and sat near you, picked a book, and started reading it while you took a sip from your cup

"I actually didn't know you had a fireplace in your home but it fits you"

"O-oh thanks"

You saw her blush and hide it with her book and found that adorable. You smiled even more and went back to reading, but after a while, you put your head on yuri's shoulder, which caused her to blush even more and look at you

"Sorry, you just look comfy. I can stop if you want me too"

"N-no, it's fine if you're comfortable. I don't mind, ....plus y-you look c-cute like that"

"Oh really?"

You kissed her cheek and giggled as her face turned even more red

"Well you're the cutest in my eyes"

Yuri just hid her face in the book she was holding again, but even with that, you could still see how red she was

How do you think Emilia and the others would react to the concept of dreaming in No Rest for the Wicked?

“If I’m honest— sleeping isn’t even that bad,” Subaru starts, rubbing his eyes. He woke up an hour ago, but he still feels pretty sleepy— and how could he not, when Otto decided that the first thing he needed to do in the morning was discuss taxes with him? “You get to dream every night, which is pretty cool if you ask me.”

Subaru lets himself sink deeper into Emilia’s office couch. He loves it when she lets him watch her work.

He doesn’t usually like talking about sleeping much, not after all the trouble it already gave him— but today he dreamed he had momentarily traveled back in time to when he was eight years old, and was able to hug his parents one more time. Waking up hadn’t left him fatigued, on the contrary, it left him much better rested than usual. At least until Otto decided to be a pest, of course.

“Dreams?” Emilia raises her gaze from the papers in her desk and tilts her head to the side. “What are dreams?”

“Dreams are, uh…” He blinks. How could one describe dreaming? “It’s like traveling to another world—” no, that doesn't sound right, “—except the world doesn’t really exist ‘cus it’s merely a product of your imagination.” He crosses his arms. Did that even make sense? “Do you not do something like that when you are unconscious?”

People from Lugunica can still faint from blood-loss or other wounds. They surely had to dream then, right?

“You travel to another world when you sleep?”

Ok, maybe that was too much. Subaru blushes at the wonder marrying her voice. “Well, not literally. They are just a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person's mind during sleep.”

“Natsuki-san, are you implying that when you sleep you… hallucinate?” The reason for his current nightmares —Otto— opens the door of Emilia’s office with a sack of papers in his hands and turns to stare at him.

Subaru pauses and rubs his chin, deep in thought. Can dreams be considered hallucinations?

“Hallucinations?” Emilia repeats, voice distant.

Otto sighs. “Indeed, when people are in agony, they sometimes see things that aren't there."

Subaru starts laughing, then stops when he realizes what Otto actually meant. “Wait— what?” Oh cmon, this can’t happen again.  “I already said I'm not in pain when I sleep.”

“You say many things,” Otto glares. “But Lady Beatrice said you often squirm or wake up crying.”

Emilia gasps.

“You know that?!” Subaru stands up, then raises his hand to hold his head at the whiplash from changing positions so quickly. His own words finally sink in as his eyes widen. “I mean— I absolutely do not do that.”

Otto squints at him. He hadn’t missed his slight headache. “You should have told the healer about the hallucinations when he visited last week, Natuki-san.”

“They aren’t hallucinations.” Subaru blinks.

“Your description sure matched them. What is the difference between hallucinations and dreams, then?”

Emilia interrupts. “Are dreams another symptom of Subaru’s Partial Sleeping Beauty, then? Should we make sure he doesn’t dream?”

Otto shakes his head. “The only way to make him stop dreaming would be to make him stop sleeping, and the doctor said we shouldn't.”

“But that’s…”

“Time out!” Subaru raises his arms, crosses them and forms a stop sign. “The squirming is completely unrelated to the dreaming. I like dreaming, It’s relaxing.” Unless he is having a nightmare, he knows better than to address that topic.

Emilia’s purple eyes fill with tears. “Is your condition so bad that you prefer spending so many hours in a fake world rather than real life?”

What the fuck.

“No, absolutely not! I love real life is just—” Subaru groans.

He should have learnt to shut up by now.

“I wonder if Heinkel-san’s wife dreams,” Emilia says during dinner, after calming down. “If she has to sleep for so many years, it would be nice if she were to hallucinate that she is in a world in which her family is safe and sound.”)

Refrigerator door closing headcanons <3 Monika is the type to open the fridge with any appendage that isn't her hands, if she could, she'd use her hair to open it, but seeming as she can't she just opens it using her legs, usually like, it isn't even productive most the time, sure, sometimes she'll be holding stuff and actually opening the door with either elbow or legs would make sense in that case, but otherwise she just does anything you wouldn't expect, in all fairness For closing the door, she'd either nudge it shut with her lower calf, or just by hitting it with her side/hips also, unrelated but she absolutely has tortilla chips as something she really likes, probably eats it with salad and like, ranch [derogatory...] [[not really]] Sayori doesn't really differ much from any refrigerator opening norm, but she does kinda just stare blankly into the fridge searching for something that she wants to eat, just to close it, and immediately open it again. like she will do this for minutes at a time, girlie lives in an ingredient house and it is an oppressive environment.. </3 Natsuki would be shockingly averse to slamming open or close refrigerator doors, she'd treat it fairly delicately, it's sacred after all, a housing place for all things baking, it must be held with respect she also keeps flour in the fridge, no argument about this, she just does if she had it in her though, she'd absolutely kick the door close or just generally be aggressive in the kitchen, but she really can't all too much Yuri opens the fridge by putting her hand on top of it, and opening it like that like, not going for the clear and normal person handle, but just opening it from the top augh, tall people, ew anyhow, Yuri, absolutely eating most of her calories at night, can't convince me she doesn't eat like everything in one go and somehow wakes up feeling only slightly off I know for a FACT that sleep schedule wise, Yuri has a bizarrely natural and just good sleep schedule she just takes naps midday, that's her saving grace I think oh and she either gently pushes the door close so that she has to knock it fully closed because the force she put the first time wasn't enough, or slam it the first time accidentally and shock herself a bit because of the noise. this cool? am I on point? what we think of this, guys?

"not only is he based on the character from camus' l'étranger who has actual scholarly debate on him being autistic, meursault is just… so autism. hes this stoic, terse guy with resting bitch face who doesnt really seem to fully process that he isnt showing any emotions and that that offputs people, and hes very blunt and literal with things. once another character asked if he had metal for brains as an insult and he responded by telling him the exact chemical composition of his brain to show that it is not metal. once the other characters made food so bad that when he tasted it he went on a minute straight long monologue about how much it sucked. he then proceeded to cook his own food which the giant evil chicken monster man that was judging the food tasted and said was so intensely done to the letter of the recipe that it was too boring. hes like if autism was a guy and that guy was french."

"does things based almost solely on whether or not he wants to, at one point in the series, he doesn't tell the rest of the cast that he can fly a spaceship because he doesn't feel like it. he also take everything everyone else tells him seriously, such as when another character he knew as a kid said they were going to get married one day, he took it very seriously and was confused when said character tried to confess her feelings again and he said he thought their promise from when they were kids was still on."

"This boy is autism incarnate. No social skills, no normal pain perception, complete weirdo. He even has a special interest which becomes a mild issue when he joins the main cast lol."

"He’s a three-armed wyvern gunslinger with cool goggles and a lightsaber. Need I say more? …Okay then. Alus was born as a mutant cripple and rejected by his kind but managed to overcome this and rise up to become Flying Reptile Indiana Jones. He’s usually quite meek around people, but when he clicks with a conversation topic, he gets all energetic and fired up and sometimes a bit haughty too. To avoid going out of his room and interacting with people face to face, he invented a mobile tablet with text to speech. In another Halloween event, he was forced to be a back-up singer and managed to pull through despite the social anxiety. He’s the most autistic student in all of Night Raven College and possibly in all of Twisted Wonderland too."

MC: Yeah, thankfully we won't have to use those unmarked tokens. I got pretty confusing at times.

It seems like I was ecstatic a few days ago that this was going to be the end, but that was a lie. Well, that incident with Ikutsuki was a lie, actually.

It feels like there are really people who are sad. I wonder what kind of person her mother is? I hope she's someone who will support Kirijo-senpai... We have to do our best so that she can at least concentrate on household chores.

By the way, Junpei seems to be feeling down. It seems something happened with Chidori-san. And then... Oh, that's right. Aigis has come back. The control device that was attached to Ikutsuki has been removed, and she seems to be fine now. Let's try to get things back to the way they were before, little by little. This was Takeba.

It feels like it's been a long time since I've reported on activities. At one point I was at a loss, but seeing everyone working hard makes me feel like I still have a lot to learn. You're all real seniors!

But why are adults like that? Ikutsuki-san and the Kirijo family. I can tolerate it if it's just a coincidence that there are bad people around us. But if you think about it, if you just live a normal life, anyone can become that bad... it makes me hate becoming an adult.

Ikutsuki-san... Thinking about it now, before he revealed his true identity, he just pushed the battle onto us and only came to check on us occasionally, so he might have been classified as a bad adult. But to be honest, I didn't dislike Ikutsuki-san because he was one of the few people who didn't treat me like a child. Maybe he was just trying not to upset me because I was a useful pawn to help him achieve his goal... But no one knows for sure now, so there's no point in saying it. However, I'm grateful that he taught me that there are many different sides to people. Is this a bad example? Let's change our attitude.

Thank you Yukari and Fuuka for worrying about me. Well, lately, I've been feeling down because we couldn't erase the Dark Hour, Kirijo-senpai got into a lot of trouble, and that guy Ikutsuki was like that, and then Chidori... I have no idea why, but she suddenly started saying she didn't want to see me. I was a helpless samurai with no hope of a future. Even if I asked someone for advice, there was no point in asking her the reason.

Anyway, I'm sorry for being depressed all by myself. I'm sorry!

For now, there's nothing I can do about it, so I'm going to go back to the hospital once I've calmed down and ask what happened. I guess I'll consult them about something then.

Hello! If it’s okay, I’d like to know your thoughts on the Trikoto theory (3+ alters). I think it’s a cool theory! And pretty likely, honestly. (Here’s a document about it in case you don’t know what I’m talking about. I didn’t make it, and I unfortunately don’t know who did, I just found it in another blog)(I really hope that link works lol)

Hey FF! I was wondering when you might send something in. Not the topic I expected, but I'm here for it!

I've definitely heard of this theory before. I can't say I know for sure where it originated, but I've always been under the impression that a blog called @bertrandcaillet started it as they're the first one I saw talk about that theory and they told me about it a while ago. They've since deactivated, though, so I can't really check with them to see if that's true.

I think the trikoto theory is interesting, and I fully agree with what's said on the document about how it would be nice if Milgram is showing a system with more nuance than just having two alters.

That being said, I personally don't believe this theory for a number of reasons. I'm going to do my best to explain why here. I do want to say going into this that while I do have extremely minimal psychology teaching (as in, undergrad psyc MINOR), I do not claim to be that educated on DID or similar struggles. So, anything that I say will be focusing much more on Milgram as a piece of media from a writing standpoint, because that's what I have much more extensive experience in.

I will say that I am very aware that most systems have more than 2 alters. That being said, I think I also remember from my psyc class that the average number is, like... 16? I'm not at my dorm right now and that's where my notes are, so I can't check, but I remember specifically thinking about it in the context of Mikoto and trikoto theory, so I'm pretty confident it's Above Three. That means that either way, it's not like we're doing The Most Common Number, so I think two versus three is largely irrelevant on that point.

For the sake of clarity, I'll be using the names in the doc (Akakoto, Midokoto, Aokoto), but I only personally believe that two of them (Akakoto, Aokoto) exist. I've taken to calling them Orekoto and Bokuto, but for this post, Akakoto and Aokoto it is.

At its base, my problem with trikoto theory is that I don't see a lot of evidence for it. Most of what I've seen has been talking about the implications of it if you assume it's true, but I've just never really been convinced in the first place. I'll just go through some of the main reasonings real quick:

The RGB Colors

I do acknowledge that I'm very much not a visually oriented person, so the color shifting is something I'm less inclined to notice. However, while the background of the room is blue and the train station and apartment are pretty green, I don't feel like there are ever really any red backgrounds (other than when the headspace becomes red as ooposed to blue). Because of that, I have a hard time believing that the backgrounds themselves contribute to the idea that there are three. I definitely think the red/blue coloration in the eyes and such are indicating different alters, but I don't think that specific fact supports there being three of them.

The Voice Changes

This might be a me issue, but I only really hear two different vocal inflections. I understand the point about there being some harsher (?) sounding vocals that don't have the growl, but personally, I still think the tone matches the one described as Akakoto enough to count. Similarly, the parts towards the end that are picked out for Midokoto ("I'm probably not to blame," etc.) actually sound more like Aokoto to me even if I do try to track the three voices.

I'm hesitant to go too hard in believing the different voices because to me, doing so would severely limit the amount of control Natsuki Hanae would have over the emotions he wants to put into the song. The vocalists in Milgram do a fantastic job at using specific vocal intonations to convey deep layers of emotions in their songs. I feel like it would be very limiting to only be able to use certain vocal effects (ex. growl) in specific places due to the limitations of the characters. If there are two, the two voices are far more separate, which gives more space for customization within the bounds of each voice.

This is also a little bit iffier on evidence, but there's the Es cover of MeMe. I don't know how much Yurina Amami knows about Mikoto's story and the entire video is in grayscale, so take all of this with a grain of salt, but to me, I feel like Es uses two voices here, not three. Notably, they even have a bit of vocal growl on the "switch" and on "split and half, make that heart beat," which are both squarely in the Midokoto tone. They do still have the two voice split, sounding a bit more apathetic and aggressive in the Akakoto parts and cuter in the Aokoto parts. To me, that signifies that there's suppose to be two voices going on, not three, but you could argue that that's just Es' perception of Mikoto, so it's not decisive or anything.

Mikoto Fighting Es

Yes, in his first audio drama, Mikoto is able to beat Es up until Kotoko stops him. Yes, that's inconsistent from what we've seen from Futa and also t2 Amane. I agree that that's because the Milgram rules only apply to one or more alters, and thus any others that may exist can get around the rulings. We saw this between trials, too, with how Mikoto (seemingly Akakoto at the time) was able to avoid being restrained despite his guilty verdict, likely through the same loophole.

(Side note: this implies to me that Milgram's system for restraining guilty prisoners is, like the protective barrier around Es, somewhat magical and isn't a physical thing. Thus, if we were to, say, vote Amane as guilty, I am fairly confident she would be unable to harm any other prisoners, as we've already seen the barriers are able to prevent her from attacking others. I still lean Amane innocent anyways, but I wanted to point this out.)

Anyways, I don't think that this is actually evidence towards trikoto theory because it works perfectly fine with just the two of them. Aokoto is the prisoner in Milgram and Akakoto isn't. This doesn't necessarily mean that Aokoto is the one who was fronting while the murder happened, though; the rules of Milgram just necessitate that the prisoner is involved in/related to a death. It can be indirect.

I think that that's exactly what Milgram is asking us with Mikoto. The question is, how do you fairly hold a system accountable? Can you blame one alter for the other's actions?

Milgram loves to complicate these, and I can see the appeal of a complication being learning about a third alter. Personally, I think it's much more likely that the route Milgram is taking is looking at how much knowledge the alters have about each other and asking how much Aokoto would have to know to make him an accessory to Akakoto's murder plans. It could go either way, though.

Some Bonus Points

I think the strongest piece of evidence brought up is the use of threes in Mikoto's design. Other than "they just liked it aesthetically," there isn't much of a counterargument I can make about it. My best one would be that they might be going for a "switching between black and white" type of thing, which would work better with more stripes, but that's pretty weak. I also had the idea that the first character of his name looks like three stripes, which might be a better or worse explanation! You get to decide, I have no idea.

The cake sells me less, though. It's true that Kazui's is a perfect 50/50 and that Mikoto's isn't, but that's because they're representing different things.

Kazui's is half and half because his song is called half, and it could also be a sign of how he and his wife didn't actually connect more in a marriage sense; they're still two fully separate people rather than being a unit.

Mikoto, if he has two alters, is still physically one guy. Mikoto is mostly sitting on the flower designs. I'd argue that the flowers are meant to show Mikoto as a whole: the connection point of the two alters.

That's pretty much all of what I have to say on the doc (in terms of the trikoto aspect, whether I believe it or not there's some good work done in character/lyric analysis that applies to two or three alter theories), but I'll go over some of my reason for why I actively believe there to be two, because there are some reasons.

Reason 1: The Song Titles

The doc explains what the meaning of MeMe is in trikoto theory, but it definitely still works with two, more obviously so. That's not evidence, though, because the trikoto theory has a viable explanation too.

I have no idea what they'd be doing with the song title Double, though. I guess it would be a play on somebody being someone else's double, meaning they're someone like them, which is no doubt part of the song title either way, but I think it's difficult to ignore the meaning of Double that means, y'know... multiplied by 2, or:

But that could very easily be a diversion and we haven't seen the second video, so I'd let that slide. However, that brings me to the bigger problem:

Reason 2: Upright Versus Reversed

AKA, the tarot cards.

Tarot cards can be read two ways, Upright or Reversed, based on the orientation of the card when it's placed/picked up/whatever. I already went over in my original theory (which is pretty outdated, I could do a way better job but I wrote that one literally first out of my milgram thoeries and I hated not having a good name scheme for the various alters) why I believe Akakoto to be the Hanged Man (Upright) and why I believe Aokoto to be the Hanged Man (Reversed).

I struggle to imagine why the devs would pick tarot, something that clearly has two meanings to it, when there are actually three alters. Maybe it'd just be to throw us off the scent, but it feels a bit too intentional to me.

Plus, if it was meant to throw us off, I'd expect we'd get a different metaphor/symbol for the second MV (as we have been with pretty much everyone). However, the association between Mikoto and "reversible" things has continued into trial 2, even before his MV has come up.

I say this because of his trial 2 cover song: Reversible Campaign. Funnily enough, I actually thought this song would go to Kazui before it was announced as Mikoto's, but then I looked again and understood why they wanted it for Mikoto.

My thoughts get confused and fight with each other

Very Mikoto, works for either two or three alter theories. However:

I just want to waver between black and white

It's turned me upside down

There's more that seems to paint Mikoto's mind as a dichotomy, not a... trichotomy? Is that a word? I don't actually know.

The Song Lyrics of MeMe

This is sort of an extension of the above part, but there are also definitely song lyrics in MeMe that sound like they're heavily implying two. Again, you could argue that that's trying to throw us off the scent, but some of them are, in my opinion, actively difficult to justify for trikoto theory.

Split in half, Make that heart beat

I cannot for the life of me understand why any of the three alters would say "split in half" if there are three. I guess if any of them were aware of one of the other alters, but not the other? I don't think that's what was being argued, though, sorry if I missed that.

I’m already the fake one

Little harder to argue this one because I don't know how definite versus indefinite articles work in Japanese, but saying the fake one really sounds to me like there is one fake and one real. If you were just having a moment of existential crisis, in most situations, I think you'd opt for "I'm already fake."

The Mirror

This is sort of the same argument as the tarot cards, but there's also the use of mirror imagery in Mikoto's MeMe MV. Mirrors have two sides and are a reflection. You could use Haruka logic and say that it depicts self reflection, I guess, but considering the reflection acts differently, I think it's much more likely that this is meant to show the two alters.

Conclusion

Hopefully this all made sense? I respect trikoto theory and I could easily be super wrong about it (see also: my original opinions on gay Kazui theory and police Kazui theory), but I've just never really been sold. It's possible my opinion would change if I saw evidence that I felt worked better for trikoto than... twokoto? theory, but personally, I feel like most evidence I've seen for it is still better explained by there being two alters. Let me know what you think, though :)

烏は主を選ばない-[A Raven Does not choose its master]-Intrigue and Insight.

In my normal regular brain, this is honestly my reaction to this series via a meme

But I am a serious film review writer, and I really really need to gush one of the best anime series I have watched in recent years, so shall jump into the world of Yatsugarsu.

I may come late to the court drama genre party, thanks to Apothecary Diaries (薬屋のひとりごと) [FYI I really highly recommend this, if you love strong female characters and intriguing plot twists), so unfortunately I have to wait til February 2025 for Season 2 (I should read the novels too, as I heard it is also good), but it would be another show that I will recommend. As for now, I need to talk about this series 烏は主を選ばない [A Raven Does not choose its master]

So it started simply about Yukiya, a country boy from Taruhi who has unexpectedly cross pass with Prince Wakamiya (the true Kin’u), to be his aide (Though Yukiya has his sassy ways when dealing with his antics). So for the first half of the series- we deal with the 4 consorts vying for Wakamiya’s hand in marriage. I said it was great, it was cool, the intrigue is amazing with every plot twist from each consort having its own affairs and personality-all vying for . Not going to spoil for one of the biggest twists for that arc, but not all that it seems in the courts, that even Yukiya-an observer be like I am too old for this shit with these delulu nobles.

I would say Hamayuu is my favourite among the consorts, because she radiated intelligence and wit that every time I see her, I be like QUEEN, I love you so much 😩

However I wanted to give the shout out to the next part of the series that totally solidify the series for me as a whole, so after the selection process of the consort is officially done (With oh course revelations of our lovely consorts, again no spoilers), trouble seems to brew at the countryside as there are mutated yatsugarasus and killer were-monkeys (These things scared the shit out of me TBH) prowling through the villages, killing the residents- which Yukiya is pulled back to the Prince’s side, to investigate these horrors. I guess that is how Game of Thrones fans feel like with the plot twists they watched, because Raven’s plot twists are muah Chef’s kiss. Like every time I be like ‘This so-so is SUS” and the same time, did not expect the unexpected with the motivations. Like from the intrigue on who shall win Wakamiya’s hand, now it become like there are drugs???? There are evil monkeys???? Gang pacts????? Quoting that Lady Gaga Meme;

You can say it makes you want more of its twists and turns in Yamauchi’s inner worlds.

Not to mention, I love the world-building that it is not jarring at all, but rather it serves you like a 9 course Michelin meal, which its politics, surroundings, mythos and livelihood interweaved so beautifully. I admit I am jealous how it is written, as I cannot even pen these worlds so intriguing and yet so brutal, which could be similar to real life.

As David Lean, one of my heroes said ‘I'm first and foremost interested in the story, the characters.’ and it really shined through the series, with the relationship between Wakamiya and Yukiya, who lived different lives; Wakamiya burdened with the destiny of protecting his fellow crows and Yukiya, a witty kid who learns that the world he lives is not what it seems and yet bonded by loyalty. They propelled the story through their observations and interactions with their allies, enemies or conspirators.

On the side note the endcard after every episode done by Natsuki-sensei (The illustrator for the Yatsugarsu series) which are so gorgeous by itself (I saw an online website where you can buy the postcard set itself, which I am jealous as it is expensive)

I am quite upset how this anime flew by the radar, with the more popular ones, but if you love court intrigue, refreshing world buliding and complex characters, this series is for you,and I hope you enjoy the ride as I was

I am hoping to get my hands to work on the novels by Abe-sensei itself so I can read it by itself, because it is just amazing

Monika Vs Suction Cup Man

Monika hummed quietly to herself as she stacked her club activity forms for the school. The day had been long but surprisingly uneventful. A quiet day was actually very refreshing.

She was about to leave when an odd noise caught her attention. It sounded like it was coming from outside but that couldn't be right. The club room was on the third to fourth floor.

She almost let it be to just leave but curiosity got the better of her. She came to the window but whatever was making the noise she could only tell it wasn't coming from across the street.

Nope. It was definitely closer.

She opened the window and looking down she saw what was making the noise. Seeing wasn't quite the same as believing though because of how absurd it was.

A middle aged man was attempting to climb her high school.

"Excuse me!!" she called out impatiently but politely. "Exactly what do you think you're doing?!"

"Oh gee, I don't know; what does it look like I'm doing?!"

Monika bit her lower lip in frustration.

Was he some new added character? A dlc? Did he even have a character file?

Monika didn't have the answers to any of these questions but she did know one thing.

"Well stop it! You're bothering me!"

"I can't just stop, dumbass! I'm at least three stories up!"

Monika frowned. 'Well there's no reason to be that rude!' she thought.

"Okay, um... I'll go down a floor and then you can just walk out after I open a window."

"That's very polite of you but still fuck you!"

"I... What... Why would you... Just stop!! Or at least turn around!"

"Bitch, I can't stop! I gotta go up and climb the other way down!!"

"Why?!"

"Because fuck you! That's why!"

Monika was starting to get angry now. This 'anomaly' didn't make any sense. She wasn't even sure what his purpose was let alone his....

"Hey!! What's your name?"

"Suction Cup Man!"

'He can't be serious.'

"No. You're REAL name!"

"Dadadada Suction Cup Man!"

"Really? Fine then. Well why are you climbing my school with suction cups?"

"Because I'm Suction Cup Man!"

"Why MY high school?!"

"Why NOT your high school?!"

"Okay!" Monika stomped her foot on the ground. "That does it!" She pointed with her finger and brought up her command prompt.

"Uh oh. Now I pissed her off."

The words "Find Character file: Suction Cup Man" appeared in the search engine. After a moment, text appeared reading "Character file not found."

"Ha. Bitch!"

"What?! But how is that possible?! How can you be here with no character file? How am I supposed to delete you now?!"

"You can't delete Suction Cup Man! I'm way too cool!"

"AAAAAGH!!!" Monika screamed as she grabbed her head in frustration.

"If I can't delete you then I'll just crush you!!"

"Crush me?"

Monika used the command prompt to enter in as many heavy New Items as she could think of.

Suction Cup Man was about to ask what she meant when a piano suddenly fell from the sky, heading right towards him.

"OH SHIT!!!" He leapt out of the way just barely dodging it. "Ha! Missed!"

Monika said nothing but her evil smirk told him everything he needed to know.

"Uh oh."

What followed next was numerous items falling from the heavens to try and hit him. These items included but were not limited to: a filing cabinet, an arm chair, an anvil, an ATM, a couch, a printer, a bench, a vending machine, a car, and just to make it complete... A kitchen sink.

Suction Cup Man moved faster than he ever had in his life as he desperately dodged the items plummetting at him.

"OH SHIT! SHIT! SHIT! SHIT! SHIT! SHIT! SHIT! SHIT! SHIT! SHIT!"

With his back against the wall, still holding onto his suction cups, he fought to catch his breath as Monika stared at him with utter shock.

"How did you dodge all that?!"

"Fuck you! That's how!"

Monika screamed again but this time a new third party member came to investigate.

"Monika? Is that you? What're you still doing here?"

"Oh! Natsuki. I'm just dealing with a little intruder!"

"Intruder??? We're up on like the third floor! Who could possibly be..."

Natsuki poked her head out the window and saw Suction Cup Man.

"Top of the school to you, Pinky."

"Ah."

The story quickly told itself to Natsuki. "Just delete him. Get it over with. Like you did with my dad."

"I can't! He doesn't have a character file!"

"What?? Then how is he here then?"

"I don't know, Natsuki! But..."

"Wait!!" cried Suction Cup Man. "You're name is Natsuki? As in NUTsuki?"

Natsuki stared open jaw in shock at this man twisting her name in such a way. There was only one way to respond.

"Hey!! Fuck you!!"

"Fuck you too, Nutbar! You are now my new favorite!"

"... Kill him." Natsuki said in such a simple way, there was anger in her voice; she simply believed it was just the best way to deal with him.

"I just tried that."

"Yeah, she literally just tried that. You can't kill Suction Cup Man." ellaborated Suction Cup Man.

"He's agile as fuck. Drives me bonkers."

Natsuki looked between the two of them and then smirked a little.

"Well if you can't delete him then what about his equipment?"

"Pfft! Like what? My climbing grade suction cups?" scoffed Suction Cup Man.

"..."

"... DO IT, MONIKA!!!"

"NUTSUKI, NOOO!!! Why you gotta do me dirty like that?!"

"MY NAME IS NOT NUTSUKI!!!"

"YES IT IS!!!"

While they were arguing, Monika had successfully entered into the command prompt "Delete Climbing Grade Suction Cups"

She smiled victoriously as almost immediately she heard him scream for his life. "That's what you get for messing with the president of the Literature Club, Bitch!"

"Oh. Look at that. He has a little parachute."

"ARE! YOU! KIDDING! ME?!"

Sure enough. Monika spotted him floating peacefully to the ground in a parachute.

"Monika, is that you? Who is that with you?" asked a new voice.

This time Monika was joined by the remaining two members.

"It's just me, Nut-I MEAN NATsuki!"

Sayori and Yuri looked between the two of them with concern.

"Is everything okay?"

"Nothing that isn't a problem anymore, Yuri. He's off the building and that's all that matters. I can go home now."

Natsuki had her head poked out the window watching something.

"Uh Monika? He's reloading."

"What?! That's impossible!! I deleted all climbing grade suction cups!!"

"Climbing Grade? That sounds a little specific don't you think?" asked Sayori.

Monika stared out into space for a moment but the first sound of a suction cup coming off a window made her frantically type into the command prompt to delete every kind of suction cup she could think of.

Sadly it was too little too late. He made it back up to them but now he was covered in rubber cocks. The type that had suction cups on them.

The Literature Club stared at him in silent shocked horror before he yelled out his new identity.

"I'M PENIS MAN!!!"

"..."

"..."

"..."

"...Nope." declared Sayori as she clapped her hands. "I'm going home."

"What?! Sayori!!" pleaded Monika.

"Nope! I might have depression but even I gotta draw the line somewhere! I am NOT dealing with someone who calls themselves Penis Man! I am done. I will see you all tomorrow!"

Sayori left but Monika was still fuming.

"What are those things even called?! I'll delete them too!!"

"Hey! I wrote you a song!"

To everyone's surprise he had materialized a guitar out of thin air.

"Don't you da..."

"It goes a little something like this: Penis! Penis! Penis! Penis! Penis! Penis! Penis! Penis!"

"Stop saying 'penis'!!!" shouted Monika.

"Penis!!"

"FUCK!!!" Monika was completely red in the face. Her hands open but at the ready to grab/strangle. "I don't care what it takes, I'm going to get you off my high school!!"

"Um... I could make a stupid suggestion." offered Yuri.

Monika didn't move a muscle but her eyes darted to Yuri, giving her her full attention.

"Well it looks like he just wants to climb our school in it's entirety. Maybe if we just let him then he'll go away. Our school isn't that high so it probably wouldn't take that long."

"Yuri!! That is the most..."

"Wow! You got it in one, Purple Haired Brainiac! That is exactly what I came to do! Climb up one end and then down the other! You are quite the little lady who is not a bitch in any sense of the word!"

Monika's jaw dropped. She looked between Yuri and her intruder.

"Monika, you can't seriously be entertaining this."

Monika had her arms crossed as she grumbled bitterly, an almost childlike pout on her face. "Can't believe I have to put up with with this... Rasin-Frasin suction cups... Grumble grumble... Call me a bitch..."

Natsuki and Yuri were also there but they were actually watching Suction Cup Man patiently.

He was making his way down now and landed with surprising grace. Natsuki and Yuri actually clapped but Monika just pouted more.

"That was actually kind of impressive." admitted Yuri.

"I might be willing to pay money to see him do something like this again on a grander scale. He's still a dick though." agreed Natsuki.

"Fair enough."

Suction Cup Man made his way over to the club, his arms spread eagle as if he had just formed a grand acrobatic feat.

"And there you have it, Ladies and President Dummy. My life's grand purpose!"

Yuri and Natsuki gave him honest praise but Monika just got more bitter.

"There! You did it! Are you HAPPY now?! Can you GO now?!" asked Monika angrily.

"Sure can President Dummy! Not without some goodbyes though!" Suction Cup Man grabbed Natsuki by the shoulders. "My dearest and most beloved Nutsuki."

"It's NATsuki!"

"I know what I said! You must promise me to never ever change your name! It is a gift unto this undeserving world!"

".... Sure! Whatever gets you out of here faster."

He turned to Yuri and shook her hand. "Yuri, you are a bright and elegant young woman who deserves everything the world has to offer."

"Thank... you?"

He moved on to Monika and tried to give her a hug but she used her leg and arm to keep him from touching her. "And President Dummy! You remind me a lot of my Business Dummy back home! Keep being angry, it's HYSTERICAL!"

"Just! Go!"

A clear portal opened up showing it was Suction Cup Man's time to go.

"Welp. There's my ride! I accomplished what I came here to do, climb the building in a video game!!"

"Video ga... Wait! Suction Cup Man, are you trying to say you're from the REAL world?!"

"...Well realer than yours Bow Brain. They had to program in my gear but it worked."

"Wait!! Do you think you could take me with you?!" asked Monika.

"I could... but no."

"Well why not?!"

"Because fuck you! That's why not!"

Without another word he hopped through the portal having it close after him.

Yuri and Natsuki left for home but Monika stayed where she stood. Processing everything that happened, how her worst nightmare could have been her liberation only for it to leave her by her own instance; how she could have escaped the game but was denied for no greater reason than screwing with her. Only one word came to mind to sum it all up.

"FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!" she sobbed.

My Favorite Pretty Cures of Every Color

Pink ~ Cure Butterfly/Ageha Hijiri

Before Cure Butterfly, there weren’t many pink cures that I absolutely loved. When she was introduced, she was automatically my favorite one.

She’s one of the very few pink cures who isn’t ditzy or clumsy, which is great. She’s also older, so I can relate to her more.

Ageha’s relationships with the other characters is something I love. Especially with Cure Wing. Their sibling relationship is just so cute and funny!

Red ~ Cure Rouge/Rin Natsuki

When watching Yes! Precure 5, I didn’t think much of Cure Rouge. But after watching Otona Precure, I finally got to appreciate her character.

She’s genuinely so nice and cool. She’s responsible, and tries her best to help Cure Dream be as well. I always enjoyed her attacks too.

Orange ~ Cure Yum-Yum/Ran Hanamichi

(Yes, I consider her orange)

Cure Yum-Yum is such an underrated cure in my opinion.

Her design is so unique and beautiful. It’s definitely one of my favorite cure designs. Toei really knocked it out of the park with her.

I also relate to Ran on kind of a personal level. She gets so passionate and excited about the things she loves. Sometimes, she’s a bit much, and she interrupts people. Seeing things I don’t like about myself in characters really draws me to them.

Yellow ~ Cure Sparkle/Hitana Hiramitsu

Pretty much the same as Cure Yum-Yum. Her design is unique, and I love her personality. She’s so funny, and her relationship with Nyatoran is so cute.

I also relate to her. Especially in the episode where she felt she wanted to quit being a Pretty Cure

Green ~ Cure March/Nao Midorikawa

I always thought Cure March was cool. Her design, her attitude, her love for her family, everything. I always enjoy the episodes about her as well.

She’s so responsible and kind, and her attacks are so awesome in my opinion. And out of all the Princess Forms, she’s probably my favorite one.

Blue ~ Cure Gelato/Aoi Tategami

I love Cure Gelato’s personality! She’s confident, but not arrogant. I also love how she’s the “rebellious rich girl”.

She’s so cool, and she’s a rock star! I love how that’s reflected in her design as well!

Purple ~ Cure Coral/Sango Suzumura

I fell in love with Cure Coral’s design the moment I saw it. It’s just so cute! All the bows and frills, and that hat!

Sango’s personality sets her apart from the rest of the purple cures, and I love her for that. I love her love for cute things, and her friendship with Manatsu.

White ~ Cure White/Honoka Yukishiro

The icon. The legend. One of the cures who started it all.

I love Cure White. She shows little girls that they can be smart and strong at the same time. She also doesn’t need to constantly saved by Cure Black. In battle, they’re both equally as strong. Honoka’s personality compliments Nagisa’s perfectly as well.

ok but srsly, i think the reason i like sayonika so much is bc its a very versatile ship. You want cute best friends to lovers? Side stories are right there. You want angst fest, hurt no comfort with no happy ending? Base game is right there

If we are talking about base game, a lot of questions pop up. Like how did they even get together? (probably some time after the ending, maybe since both have gone through the epiphany they bond over that) Can they even be in a functioning relationship after the events of ddlc? (a functioning one? no lol, but maybe after a lot of work they make something special) Does Sayori ever forgive Monika? (surprisingly, yes after a long time. I actually can see her "forgiving" Monika right away, only for her to build up resentment over time and snap and so she realises that she needs to actually feel and process her feelings of anger and betrayal before she can forgive Monika) Does Monika forgive herself and lets herself be loved? (THERE IS NO WAY LMAO). So yeah, the main headcanon i have for them in base game is that Monika never fully forgives herself, no matter how much Sayori insists she forgives her. Because i love suffering.

Anyway lets step away from the sad sad world of base game and get to the happy stuff of side stories :D

Sayori's physical affection and Monika's words of affection? You can't be around them without getting diabetes

Im not kidding when i say they would be the worst couple to be around. But like in a sweet way

Sayori steals Monika's clothes

They paint their nails the eye colour of the other person, so like Sayori paints them green and Monika blue

When one is having a bad day, the other gives little notes filled with cheezy puns throughout the school day to cheer them up, and they talk about whats bothering them after (sayori started this and it has become kind of a tradition)
