Things randomly found on the Internet: an illustration from an 18th century pitaval from Wrocław, Lower Silesia, titled Breslauer Malefizbuch, posted tangentially in an article on the website of the National Museum in Wrocław.
One of two illustrations, because the other one is fully serious, and this one, well... Just look at this shit. The guy on the left is tipping his hat while holding a severed head, and the headsman, sword still in hand, is smiling awkwardly like some guy randomly invited to the stage at an event because he won a prize of some kind.
I just couldn't resist cropping it (because it's the left side of a landscape drawing with a corpse broken on the wheel displayed on the right with a lot of empty space in the middle) and adding the caption that came to my mind seeing the guy on the left.

I really urge everyone to check @bezimiennyart on Instagram. It’s all oil paintings inspired by Gothic (video game from 2001, big in Germany and Poland).
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/19913fb36d3e5eeda97f5f690770130f/fccacb6e3f684f0d-9a/s540x810/44177e23b9d9a3fdfb8662ff85bde1c589534d09.jpg)
And what’s best, it was featured in National Museum in Wrocław for a while. Gothic portraits were hung right next to actual historical portraits. It was dope as fuck.

A very similar sword, considered functional and reportedly used to behead Freiherr Hans Ulrich von Schaffgotsch, Silesian noble and war hero, is displayed in the National Museum in Wrocław, as I learned lately.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4e949410210242eb40dcef9d7ed06e4b/5ecec0456c9ab4d1-b4/s640x960/eb253767fcf87e2e5ddb802c035bc4391f9e3748.jpg)
Executioner’s Sword, late 1600s, Cleveland Museum of Art: Medieval Art
Although the axe was favored in England, for centuries swords were used throughout Central Europe for beheadings. The blades were often etched with moralizing inscriptions and designs representing Justice (as here), the gallows, the rack, or the Crucifixion. By the early 1700s swords were no longer used in Europe for executions, but they still functioned as symbols of power. This sword was probably ceremonial. Size: Overall: 108.9 cm (42 7/8 in.); Blade: 85.7 cm (33 ¾ in.); Quillions: 22.5 cm (8 7/8 in.); Grip: 15 cm (5 7/8 in.) Medium: steel, wood, brass and copper wire
