The FAE | 2. Antisocial

POV: Tegan

“What do you mean it’s their funeral?” I said, no more than a whisper to concerned about my godparents to even bother attempting to raise my voice above its natural volume.

No one dared to speak up until Maya came over to me and placed her hand on my should pulling me into a sort of hug before she started speaking, her attempt at comfort working its usual magic. Kind of ironic now that I think about it.

“If they try to cross the border they could die. The magical border surrounding the school has become much harder to get through since Alfea was attacked. But there is a quick test we can do or I can try contact Faragonda and see if I can get them passes but that’d be more difficult than just leaving them here.”

That was the moment it hit me. The reason Maya had said goodbye not I’ll see you soon or any of our normal variations last time we saw each other, she didn’t think we’d ever see each other again. But the question is why? Surely if she can get into the school she can get out.

The real question was how on earth Simone and I were going to explain this to our parents, who in all likely hood already knew and were just keeping it a secret. But for all we knew it was a recessive gene that had been hidden in our families for generations. The other question was what about school, what about our lives here. We’re known around school, sure for me, it’s as the loner who knows the popular kid and does debate but I’m still noticed enough that the bitches would realize they’re one victim down. But the whole school knows Simone, she’s the one popular girl that makes an effort to know everyone’s names and something about them so she can talk to them, people would definitely notice if she disappeared. I know that at least the teachers would notice if I disappeared, or at least hoped as much.

“So, if these two have magical powers you’d expect them to start at your school right away which means they’d have to give up on their school here?” Natasha questioned, seemingly reading my mind.

“Most likely although there would be the potential for them to be day students at Alfea meaning they could attend both Alfea and their current school although they would most likely have to give up finishing homework and get some sort of constant extension, although from what I hear your goddaughter could handle herself it’s more of a concern for the other one,” an unfamiliar slightly British, voice replied.

“Did I have a seizure again,” I whispered in Maya’s ear hoping that no one else heard.

“No, Headmistress Faragonda just asked us to spell you and Simone.”

“Although, if this girl is as powerful and volatile as you claim Estelle then she may not be a fit for Alfea. I may not remember those of which you speak but I do remember a prophecy that there must always be someone with the powers of Memory and the forgotten in the universe and as we know one of our history of magic teaches is the Fairy of Memory so it may be that she is in charge of the forgotten, which makes her far too volatile to come to Alfea.”

“I can assure you, I’ve known her, her whole life she is anything but volatile at the moment, she’s in therapy, she’s training to keep her emotions in check, she makes sure she remains calm. The only thing that sends her into an at all volatile state is when something bad happens to one of her friends or when she feels a personal connection to something bad that’s happened in the world and that hasn’t happened for a while. She is as stable as a person can be at the moment and if you need more reassurance she’s training with Natasha every day to make sure she’s better.”

“If you don’t take offence Mr Stark we would like to make sure she is stable ourselves in case having her here would make her more of a danger to our students than she is to herself. But to do this she first has to come, Natalia, you’re welcome to join us, but your friends aren’t.”

“Of course headmistress, I’ll see you soon, until then we have to attend to my niece and her friend,” Nat said to the lady completely, blissfully fine with the whole situation.

“Girls you can undo your spell now, I’ll see you all soon.”

With that, the four girls grabbed each other’s hand and started muttering, most likely casting their spell to undo their previous work. My suspicions were correct when a burst of energy allowed me to become fully awake and Simone jolted upright finally awake.

“What the hell just happened?” Simone yelled at the girls trying to figure out how she missed 3 hours of her life to sleep in the middle of the floor, although it wasn’t unusual for her. She would regularly be late to her classes because she was passed out in the middle of the corridor, though she’d gotten better at that since starting the year.

“You’re coming to Alfea with us and Natasha so that the Headmistress can asses whether or not you can attend Alfea without harming the students,” Marketa said her normal annoyed tone shifting to an even more annoyed tone.

After a half-hour of deliberations and discussions, we walked out of the compound towards the giant mark burnt into the ground by something more powerful than myself. Before I could ask how we were getting to ‘Alfea’ the one boy in the group of Maya’s new friends pulled out a phone-like object and messaged someone, most likely alerting the ship above us that we were ready. The ship most-likely meant to be hidden by technology but it didn’t work at least to me, the render was rough compared to the SHIELD tech I grew up around, the shadows weren’t quite right and the engine was very obvious.

When they touched down on the field and the hatch door opened at the back I was greeted by a somehow familiar face and one that was definitely familiar, burnt into my brain by the wanted posters I’d been paid to draw by Simone.

“MEL?” Simone screeched at her sister, the blonde next to her laughed at Mel while a group of guys walked off of the door greeting their friends.

“Simone, how are you?” Mel asked completely calm and not at all concerned by the fact her sister had somehow got a knife in her hand and was walking toward her. “See, Emily I told you I had a younger sister who was murderous.”

“I still don’t get how that was a competition but whatever floats your boat, I’m just glad my sister made it to the age of 16 without dying somehow. Anyway, hello I’m Miss Emily the history of magic teacher at Alfea, and you very clearly know my college Mel, she’s my assistant and one of my best friends. And these are some of the ‘fine’ boys from Red Fountain, although I see you’ve already met Lachie, these are Ben, Nathan, Brenten, Will & Thomas. You’ve also already met the girls. Natasha, it’s lovely to see you again,” The blonde said smiling at us.

“Emily. Should we come aboard? Maybe you can finally have that word with your sister,” Natasha said smirking to her, I guess, long lost friend.

“Come on, we’ll get everyone introduced and explain everything, though I assume Emily has more explaining than the rest of us,” Mel said backing onto the plane as I contemplated going after Simone in her murderous rampage.

Before any of us could get aboard the ship I decide to say, “Simone give me the knife and all your other weapons or so help me I will set my cat on you when we get back home.”

“Is that a threat?” I heard Marketa whisper to Estelle. That was before Emma retorted.

“Do you even know what a cat is?”

“Girls,” Emily said sternly as I stood in front of Simone with a plastic bag open as she placed all of the things that she could possibly use as a murder weapon into it. Then I passed the bag to Tony and just gave him a look of ‘keep this away from any assassins, Wanda and Simone, or else’ he then gulped and took it ready to most-likely dispose of it before anyone got there hands on it.

With that, we all got on board the magical plane it took off flying at speeds that could only be matched by an Asgardian ship. Once everyone else had sat down me and Simone found ourselves sitting between Emily & Mel which caused me to be terrified for a small while before Mel got up and asked Lachie to swap seats with her. Which lead to Emily, Simone and Lachie having a conversation about sport, with Emily barely contributing but doing so more than me as I sat in the middle of them reading my book deciding that instead of engaging with these people I would catch up on my summer reading for school.

All in all the trip took about 2 hours. When we finally touched down in the middle of the school courtyard we were ushered into an office as students were rushing around trying to catch up with friends or rushing to find rooms or teachers. To get to the office we rushed through corridors and up stairways. Until we reached a door marked ‘Headmistress’, where we got told to wait until the headmistress was ready by a terrifying brunette woman.

“Welcome ladies to Alfea and Magix.”

I'm absolutely late to the party, but I adored last week's armies prompt from Stuart's POV. That poor man is trying his best given the circumstances! It would be so interesting to see him try and support Abram after the Popescu nightmare, and the whole "you were an eight, some days a nine" in the 1 to 10 fucked up scale. I just love Stuart in this AU for trying so hard! And I'm sure it teared him up to see his sister's only child go through all these things

I do try to work through old prompts!!

Anyway, before I resume working on the reverse big bang fic, I decided to tackle an outstanding prompt (will keep working on these while work is so busy). Not sure this shows Abram at his most fucked up (that would be a bit later), but it does show Stuart trying to get Abram back on his feet after the Popescu nightmare. I probably will do more at a later point when Abram is a ‘proper’ Hatford family member (and more on that 8 or 9 out of 10 scale).

So… Armies snippet, prequel to the fic, deals with the whole ‘Popescu nightmare’ so references to bad things/non-con but nothing specific or graphic, and references to violence.

Stuart stood to his feet when Miriam came out of Abram’sroom, her expression thoughtful and the tray in her left hand containing a half-eatensandwich and a partially empty bowl of soup. He didn’t say anything until theyreached the kitchen, where she wrapped the sandwich to put it in the fridgethen placed the dishes in the sink.

“Well?” He reached for the bottle of whisky while she beganto prepare a pot of tea. “He ate something, yeah?”

“Yes,” Miriam agreed as she frowned slightly over thealcohol but didn’t say anything, not after everything that had happened in thelast couple of weeks; he felt terrible to ask her to come with Henry fresh inthe grave, but she had a way with Abram, didn’t set off the poor kid likealmost everyone else did.

Probably because she was the closest thing to Mary that Abramhad, because she wasn’t a man.Because Abram had learned the hard way over and over just how little he couldtrust men.

Stuart’s mouth flooded with bile at the thought of what thoseRomanian bastards had done to his nephew – upon Moriyama orders – and did hisbest to wash the taste away with whisky.

Miriam made a tsk’ing sound as she rinsed the teapot outwith hot water. “He ate a little,” she clarified. “It’s a beginning, at least, andhe kept the tea.” She stepped closer to Stuart and gave his left arm a gentlesqueeze. “Things like this take time,” she assured him. “What he went through…it’s terrible and he needs to recover. The important thing is we’re here for him.”

“It shouldn’t have happened to him.” Stuart nearly slammedthe glass onto the counter before he remembered about Abram, about how hisnephew flinched at any loud noises or voices. “Dammit, he was supposed to be safe.” They’d only let him go off to theboarding school because they’d been so certain that the new identity would holdup to scrutiny, that Abram would be able to lead some sort of normal life foronce.

Then everything had blown up in their faces, with theMoriyamas arranging for Abram to be kidnapped and Henry being killed.

“Yes, he should have,” Miriam agreed. “He’s still a child,he shouldn’t have been touched by any of this.” For a moment her lovely face wasaged by grief as she had to be thinking about Henry, about the child she’dnever dreamed of burying, and then she drew in a deep, shuddering breath as herback grew ramrod straight. “But he has been his entire life, hasn’t he?”Something akin to anger made her jaw tight and voice brittle. “I loved Mary,but she should have sent him to us the day after he was born so he’d be safe.But there’s no changing the past as dearly as I would pay anything to do thatright now, so all we can do is move forward and give Abram whatever he needs torecover.” She fixed Stuart with a look that was pure determination, with that ‘you’lllisten to me or else’ which had quelled the doubters who thought that WilliamHatford had married ‘beneath’ him. “I’m not losing another child, Stu.”

“Fuck no,” Stuart said, his voice rough at the possibilityof something else happening to Abram, to him breaking down anymore than healready had. “I’d round up all the damn Cojocaru people I can find and handthem over to Ram in pretty bows if it’ll make him feel better.” The most alivehe’d seen Abram since breaking into that cesspool of an apartment in NorthTottenham was when he’d taken his nephew, bandaged and barely able to stand, tothe one warehouse in Harringay where Vasile Popescu was strung up like apresent for Abram to finish off.

It hadn’t undone what those fuckers had done to the kid andit hadn’t brought back Henry, but Abram had gotten some sleep that nightwithout waking up screaming.

Still, Miriam shook her head. “I refuse to let Ram turn intothat monster.” Once again her facetwisted with bitterness. “No, we’ll help him through this, you’ll see.” Shepoured the tea and handed him one of the mugs. “Time and patience, that’s whatit takes.”

Stuart reminded himself of those words in the following daysas he did what he could to get Abram to eat, to do something other than lie inbed, buried in blankets. He was used to his nephew being a nervous bundle ofenergy, was used to Mary, the tinyspitfire who’d never met an argument she wouldn’t wear down to the bone… ithurt to see Abram so listless, his pale eyes (no longer hidden by contacts)full of shadows and pain, his wrists wrapped in bandages and slight body hiddenby layers of clothes.

“Come on, kiddo, there’s grilled cheese,” Stuart cajoled ashe set a tray on the night stand near the bed; it looked as if Abram hadshowered at least, his hair damp and face bare of the faint stubble it hadsported that morning.

Abram was still for a moment then slowly pushed back the thickduvet and blankets which covered him as if a protective shield; it was cold inthe room due to Abram leaving the windows open – Stuart had tried to close themthe first day but had been told that Abram preferred the fresh air and breeze.

(It had stunk in the cesspool apartment, where the windowshad been boarded up to prevent any of the women from escaping (from trying tojump to their deaths).)

“I… can you get some things for me?” Abram asked, his voicequiet and raspy.

Stuart started at the question since Abram rarely spokeother than to say he wasn’t hungry. “What do you need?” he asked, aftercatching himself and almost agreeing right away. Abram pointed to a notepad onthe desk across the room.

Quick to snatch up the pad, somehow Stuart wasn’t surprisedto notice that the top two items were ‘hair dye, dark’ and ‘contacts, dark’; Abramhad always been so careful about hiding his natural hair and eye color to helpkeep up with his ‘Kyle Morrison’ identity at the boarding school, to preventthe Moriyamas from realizing that he’d fled to the family for sanctuary, but…. “Why?”Stuart asked. “They know you’re here now.”

Abram was quiet as he sat up on the bed, hunched over andwith his hands folded on his lap; the bruises had faded from his face and thebandages were gone from his wrists, which left exposed the healing scar tissue.He stared at his hands for a couple of seconds before he looked up at Stuart,who found himself flinching at the sight of so much pain in those pale eyes,flinching from the fact that he’d failed to protect Mary’s only child, the boywho’d come to him for protection months ago and who’d he let down.

“Can you get me them or what?” Abram asked, his voice evenraspier than before.

Stuart let out a shaky breath as he ran his hand through hishair and read the rest of the list – a laptop and some books on foreignlanguages and mathematics. “Eat your lunchand I’ll get everything,” he promised, and felt something twist inside of himwhen a hint of a smile tipped the corners of Abram’s lips, the bottom one stillbearing a slight scab on the left side.

He stood there watching while Abram fumbled for the plateand picked up a slice of grilled cheese sandwich then slowly ate it as if reacquaintinghimself with the whole ‘food’ process. After half of the sandwich was gone,Stuart reached for his phone and started texting the list to Davis. “Why thebooks?” He figured his nephew could use the laptop as a diversion, but therewere more entertaining topics than foreign languages and numbers.

Abram was quiet as he finished the sandwich then reached forthe bowl of leek soup. “Uhm… it gives me something to do, learning that stuff.”He had a spoonful then shrugged. “And I’m good at it.” He glanced up at Stuartthrough the thick fringe of his hair (the red of his roots stark against thedyed brown), his gaze intent. “I can help the family by translating and stuff.”

Fuck. Stuart set his phone on the desk and crossed his armsover his chest. “You’re supposed to be in school, Ram.” He was supposed to beworking on his A-levels, dammit, on figuring out what he wanted to do with hislife – something other than the family business. Mary hadn’t wanted himinvolved in it, dammit.

But she was the one to marry Nathan Wesninski, he couldn’thelp but think, to marry the fucking Butcher of Baltimore who’d traded theironly child to the damn Moriyamas like a piece of meat, was the one who’d raisedAbram on the run so he had no fucking clue how to be ‘normal’.

The one time he was given a shot at normalcy? Stuart wipedat his face and put an abrupt stop to that thought.

Abram seemed to guess his train of thought, though, judgingfrom the sardonic smile on his face. “But I’m not, and don’t think it’s a goodidea for me to go back there, considering the mess the Popescu cousins left.”Hatred shaded his voice when he mentioned those pricks. “What else is there forme to do?”

Something twisted in Stuart’s chest at that plaintivequestion. “Anything, kiddo, you know the family will support you, will-“

“I don’t want thefamily’s support,” Abram snapped with the first bit of heat he’d shown since he’dtaken Vasile Popescu apart with several knives and a wealth of pain-drivenrage. “I know how to support myself,” he continued as his pale blue eyesflashed with ire and his chin jutted out with determination, so much like Marywhenever something set her off. “If I left here today, I could pickpocketenough money in a day to rent a room for a week, then figure out how to reach oneof the remaining stashes we have in Europe. I could do it.”

It was as much a threat as a statement, Stuart realized,well familiar with Mary’s moods – and despite those eyes and that hair, withthe shape of that face… Abram was Mary’schild, was a Hatford. “I know you can, kiddo, but we both know that once youleave here that the Moriyamas will be after you.” That seemed to take some ofthe piss out of the kid, whose shoulders slumped as he set the bowl of soupaside. “So let’s work together, okay? You don’t run off and… yeah, we can findsome translating stuff for you to do.” Fuck, Will better not kill him foragreeing to that, but if it got Abram out of bed and kept the kid out oftrouble, what could go wrong?

The faint smile was back on Abram’s face as he nodded inagreement. “Okay. I was doing really well with Russian, and I’d… I’d startedJapanese on my own,” he admitted with a faint blush. “If I don’t have to worryabout stuff like literature and history, I can learn even faster.”

“Promise me you’ll think about going back to school, kiddo,”Stuart asked as he picked up his phone again. “And finish your soup.”

“All right.” Abram leaned back against the pillows as he grabbedthe bowl of soup, a spot of color on his cheeks as he focused on eating; Stuartmade sure he had more than a few spoonfuls before he left, aware that hisnephew didn’t like it when people ‘hovered’ around him.

Will wasn’t happy about the deal, much preferring that Abramresumed his studies (was out of danger), but he wasn’t there to see the kidwithdraw more and more from people each day, was he. “I’ll assign a couple ofpeople to watch over him and keep him out danger,” Stuart assured his brother. “It’sjust translating, he’ll be fine.”

“He’s Mary’schild, those are famous last words,” Will scoffed. “Dammit, Stu… he’s been hurtenough.”

“And what’s to say they won’t find him again if we stash himin an even more posh boarding school, eh?” Stuart asked through gritted teethas he poured himself a large glass of whisky. “That’s if he doesn’t run awayfirst – like you said, he’s Mary’s child all right.” And she wouldn’t put upthis shit, would she? “Which is why we give him something to do, have Cal and Rogerand Mick watch over him with orders to blow the brains out of anyone who daresto get within two meters of him who isn’t family, and hope he decides it’sboring enough that maybe school wasn’t a bad idea after all.”

Will was quiet as he thought it over. “Two meters?”

“Don’t want to seem too excessive,” Stuart drawled, whichearned a faint chuckle from his brother, one of the few he’d heard since Henry’sdeath.

Besides, Abram had proven that he wasn’t too bad at lookingafter himself, after what he’d done to the Popescu cousins. Stuart rememberedthe mess in that North Tottenham apartment and at the warehouse then shivered alittle.

“You’ll take care of everything?”

“Yeah,” he assured his brother. “It shouldn’t be toodifficult, just setting the kid up to play with documents, right?”

“Famous last words,” Will repeated before wishing him a goodnight.

Stuart huffed at that before he had a drink of whisky; whatcould go wrong with having Abram join the family business?

AYATO UPDATE

The current set of povs for chapter 5 through 10. I realize Boris, Ivana and Svetlana are missing. Boris gets a small part in chapter 6 but I haven't mentioned him because his pov is barely 500 words long. Svetlana and Ivana just kinda do their thing until chapter 11. And you'll see the chapters 9 and 10 are missing povs in the photo. That's because it's a new character you'll meet in chapter 9 or 10 or maybe 11 if things drag on a bit in the earlier chapters. I need to sort out the time line a little bit. And the expected word counts as well. But yeah, that's my work for today. And I should easily finish up to chapter 7 this month, especially because I'm skipping writing chapter 5 for the moment, and thus be able to complete my camp nano goal (20K words), especially because of the two interludes in between chapters 4 through 10. They're going to be really interesting and fun to write and read because guess what, it's been a week since Nathan started Narrating and if you've read the first two interludes, you know what happens in a week from when he starts narrating. But if you haven't, his trial starts. Yeah, it's a courtroom drama, bitches! And since its my own court, I don't need any research so it's really easy to do. Interlude 3 is already written and comes after chapter 4. Interlude 4, the court trial, comes after chapter 7 or 8 maybe. Depending on where I decide to end the chapters. If they get super long, it'll be chapter 8. If they aren't too long I. E. Under 8000 words, maybe it'll be after chapter 7. Anyway, I'm going to work on the scene in which Ingram and Mason first met and asdfghjkl I'm fucking dying it's so fucking cute. I can't wait to get started to write it. Aah, fuck yes. Anyway, that's my update for the week. And, chapter 4 is taking slightly longer than I thought so, it's a tiny bit delayed. So, anyway some plugs for those who might not know:

How wild is it to hear Nathan Drake’s VA play Tony in the SE Avengers game??

Side note, DA:I is the first and only DA game to date be ported to VR in the Marvel Universe because Captain America showed up to E3 one year in costume and mentioned that’s his “big E3 dream announcement” when he was asked, and who is EA/BioWare to refuse Captain America??? So they made it for happen for the next E3. Cap then refused to talk much more about basically any other video games, hung out in the Nintendo booth for a day and spent the rest with all the Indie games that stars queer/BIPOC characters and/or have dogs he can pet in them.

And you know Tony Stark has the best VR tech in his rec rooms, so Steve will be playing the VR DA:I when it comes out and locking the door thanks.

IT WAS SO WILD. Like Nolan playing both of my fave characters is such a dream come true?!??!??!? Like his voice for both Nate and Tony isn't that different but they also sound different enough for me to appreciate them. I remember watching the reveals and when the actors showed up, I remember being like, "TRAVIS, LAURA AND TROY?!??!?!!?!?!?", 'cause they've done VA work for AA and Lego Marvel but when Nolan introduced himself as Tony's VA, I bluescreened, ngl lmaoooo. I wasn't as worried as I should be 'cause Nolan's amazing and I was right. I think I was more worried for Jeff Schine (Steve's VA) 'cause I've never played a game with him but I thought he was great. I love his chemistry with Nolan.

STEVE GOING TO E3, HELPPPPPPP. I can't remember if Steve actually went to a con in the comics (I know Tony did) but E3 is just ?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!? GODDDD, WHAT A CONCEPT. Now I'm just imagining everyone going to E3. Like how weirded out would they be when they see themselves in games. But Steve would definitely be super supportive of the indie scene.

VR DA:I, GODDDDD. I mean, DA is probably one of the last games to get a VR mode since they're all in 3rd POV but lbr, Tony would just revamp the whole thing in a day or two. And Steve doesn't need to even go to the rec room. He could just ask Tony to be a beta tester XD

Nathan should have remembered that Allison was the reason Jack ended up entertaining Carl’s neurosis and escorting him to Global—last time he’d rolled his eyes at Jack’s explanation of providing a calming presence to Carlson prior to the demonstration. After Nathan left the bunker, Jack all but dove onto the walking, talking panic attack that was Carl as it made him too busy for Allison to get her hands on.

Professionally speaking, of course.

When Jack walks in behind Carl to his lab, Nathan’s blood goes cold.

“Stop,” he says before he can stop himself, almost barking the command and internally wincing at how Jack’s spine straightens, and his expression goes blank. “Jack, what are you doing here?”

“Assisting. Carl has a really important demonstration today.”

“No.”

“What do you mean, no?”

The good thing is that everyone is now looking at them like Nathan’s grown a second head instead of proceeding further into the lab set up to test Carlson’s bacteria. The bad thing is that Nathan’s objection hasn’t stopped Jack from entering the lab as he’s two steps into the lab that’s two hundred feet directly above the Artifact’s containment chamber.

Nathan has to get Jack out of there. He swears he can feel the Artifact emit some sort of vibration, and his skin is crawling.

I was tagged by a couple people in a row ( @jhelenoftrek and @muldyfi ), so here goes.

i’ll preface this post by saying sometimes i kinda boggle at the fact that it’s been 20 years that i’ve been writing because there are times it doesn’t seem that long ago! so in no particular order...

Four

(aka the one I always get yelled at about, lol) this angsty AU was born of a chat prompt in which my friend purpledog pointed out Chakotay wearing four pips when Kes first saw him in “Before and After”. from that innocent comment came what I think is probably the biggest feels-killer I’ve written to date...from a former angst-hater no less. or in the words of one AO3 reviewer: “just leave me here to die...i mean cry”

The Hand of Wrath

my first and longest seaQuest story. the grieving lover of the disgraced Captain Stark works to seek revenge on Nathan Bridger. Nathan and Kristin were the forefront of the story, but pretty much the whole crew got to play a part along with my batch of OCs. action, dramatic angst, romance and even a dark vision play their part. 53K words, sixteen chapters and it took two years to write it. I think I had the most fun with the research--everything from random bits of WWII history to the Aleut language.

Tempest

yes, it took me 20 years to write a “Resolutions” fic. I suppose I was too busy reading everyone else’s and writing other ideas! unashamedly PWP but it turned out exactly as I wanted it--the rainstorm background descriptions a perfect backdrop for the smut.

(I’m obligated to add that it also took me 20 years to notice that the Legend made KJ cry....in my defense, my eyesight sucks and I lived for years with a crummy tube TV and a VHS tape that was wearing out!)

Kumita’s Touch

this is the first “long” story I wrote (roughly 16K). Visiting friendly aliens leaves KJ comatose and Chakotay voluntarily going through a religious ritual in order to save her soul. This plot came from me offering up a “Flip Sacred Ground on its head and make it J/C” plot on VAMB--and then I couldn’t stop thinking about the idea and had to do it myself! it’s one of my older stories (written ten years ago) and, while its age now shows somewhat, I still consider it one of my favorite works.

In the Rainlight

this one is based off of the gorgeous What We Can Be by VAMB author Shayenne, who very graciously allowed me to do another POV within its framework--and so i went with showing J/C through the eyes of an alien woman. it was also a challenge to do first person present tense and I’m rather pleased with the result.
