Since today has been a shitshow for personal stuff, I wanted to do some video recs, some fun, some thoughtful listening/watching. FUN VIDEOS: - I’m sure most people listened to The Magnus Archives as a podcast, but I enjoy listening to it on YouTube, so if you want, their channel has playlists by season.  I’m on season 2 and still enjoying it a lot and I think I’m starting to enjoy Jon/Martin, but it’s still early days yet and I’m mostly enjoying it for the surprisingly chill horror stuff.  I mean, it’s very good, but it doesn’t unsettle me, so it’s perfect for what I want.  (Mostly I just want to yell at people about stuff, but I’m not nearly far along enough for that.  orz) - Puppet History came back and, ahhhhh, it goes by so quickly, I feel like every Friday it’s gone before I know it, because it’s just so delightful.  I have been enjoying the guests as well--Kate Peterman is always a banger of a guest, and  Ify Nwadiwe was just pure delight to watch.  The stories are always interesting and I just have a happy, bubbly time watching.  WATCH IT IF YOU LIKE LEARNING AND JUST HAVING A SILLY TIME AND A FEW LAUGHS. - I feel like Ted Lasso’s second season took a bit of time to get underway and really get the plot rolling, the first four episodes were just kind of there, but once it hit its stride, it’s been just as good as the first season.  I’m frustrated at what they’re doing with Nate, but willing to see how they land the storyline, and meanwhile the scenes between Ted and Dr. Sharon were absolutely stellar, those two just acted the shit out of their scenes in the best way.  p.s. Sam Obisanya deserves the entiiiiiiire world. THOUGHTFUL VIDEOS: - So, I recently stumbled over F.D Signifier’s videos, because the title Bo Burnham's Inside and "White Liberal Performative Art" caught my attention and I was intrigued--what I got was an incredibly thoughtful, compassionate, patient exploration of the topics of how white people relate to trying to be better on racism and what that means for Black people.  Like, this man didn’t have to go so hard on the empathy and kindness, but he really did while still sticking to the topic at hand and it really gave me a lot to think about, especially on some complicated topics.  I also really liked Why "Allies" Need to Learn to Knock, because it’s once again coming from a place of empathy for the person who was trying to be an ally, but also explaining why just jumping in isn’t always someone’s place and how to approach it next time.  He’s just one dude talking about his views on stuff, but I find him very engaging and really good at giving me stuff to think about. - I also appreciate listening to Contrapoints’ videos because I find she often approaches her topics with empathy, as well as she clearly puts a lot of thought and time into her videos.  Yes, the production quality is lovely, but I enjoy listening to her arguments on things, I think she explains her positions well, and Envy was another one I enjoyed a lot. - I enjoy Kat Blaque’s videos, another person who has a shocking amount of empathy that I don’t know where she gets it from, but bless her for it.   They Wanted To Protect Her, Until They Found Out.. really kind of knocked me for a loop, because the main topic of the video is about how people treated a young woman dating an older man one way when they thought she was cis, then another way when they found out she was trans, and that it wasn’t necessarily ill-intentioned, but still spoke of something deeper about how society sees women and what it values about them and what it feels the need to protect about them.  I especially appreciate this video because it’s not a direction I would have personally thought of and it’s a good look at the topic.

Cal’s Davis Webb shines in Senior Bowl victory
It can be difficult to make too much out of one performance in the Senior Bowl as far as draft prospects go, but there is no denying you would much rather have a good performance to take away from Mobile, Alabama than a shaky one. Cal quarterback Davis Webbwill return home with reason to feel good about what eh showed on the field in the nation’s top college football all-star game leading into…

The NFL’s best remaining free agents, by position
Tumblr media
The new league year is here, but not every big name has been signed yet.
The official start to the new NFL league year is here, with a new collective bargaining agreement and all. It also comes at a time when the world is upended by the coronavirus pandemic, but other than changes to travel and locking down team facilities, NFL free agency is continuing unabated.
With the legal tampering period beginning on March 16, many deals were already agreed upon before free agency actually began. Some became official right at 4 p.m. ET when the new league year kicked off, while others have yet to be finalized until teams can conduct physicals. We’ve also seen a high number of franchise tags this offseason, with players like Dak Prescott and Chris Jones sticking with their teams.
Even after all that, there are a slew of free agents looking for a landing spot in 2020. Below, we’ll point you to the best available players at each position, with updates throughout free agency. Note that not every signing is included, namely for players at the bottom of the roster.
Quarterback
Signed: Kyle Allen, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Teddy Bridgewater, Chase Daniel, Blaine Gabbert, Chad Henne, Taysom Hill, Brian Hoyer, Case Keenum, Marcus Mariota, AJ McCarron, Colt McCoy, Sean Mannion, Nick Mullens, Nathan Peterman, Dak Prescott, Philip Rivers, Nate Sudfeld, Ryan Tannehill, P.J. Walker, Jameis Winston
Best available: Blake Bortles, Joe Flacco, Josh McCown, Matt Moore, Cam Newton, Kyle Sloter
A strong group of free agent quarterbacks has been quickly depleted, with Dak Prescott getting the franchise tag and Tom Brady, Teddy Bridgewater, and Marcus Mariota landing with new teams. Cam Newton’s reported release made him a late addition to the list and an intriguing option for teams that. missed out on the first wave of QB signings.
Running Back
Signed: Ameer Abdullah, Peyton Barber, Matt Breida, Kenyan Drake, Austin Ekeler, Melvin Gordon, Todd Gurley, Derrick Henry, Jordan Howard, Kareem Hunt, Dion Lewis, J.D. McKissic, DeAndre Washington, Jeff Wilson
Best available: Devonta Freeman, Frank Gore, Carlos Hyde, LeSean McCoy, Lamar Miller, Ty Montgomery, C.J. Prosise, Wendell Smallwood, Chris Thompson, Jonathan Williams
The value of the running back position continues to swing wildly, but that didn’t stop the Titans from putting the franchise tag on Derrick Henry. Other names like Austin Ekeler and Jordan Howard were quickly locked down, too.
Wide Receiver
Signed: Geronimo Allison, Nelson Agholor, Danny Amendola, Robby Anderson, Travis Benjamin, Kendrick Bourne, DeAndre Carter, Randall Cobb, Keelan Cole, Amari Cooper, Phillip Dorsett, Keelan Doss, Larry Fitzgerald, Devin Funchess, A.J. Green, David Moore, Zach Pascal, Breshad Perriman, Demarcus Robinson, Emmanuel Sanders, Tajae Sharpe, Laquon Treadwell
Best available: Taylor Gabriel, Rashard Higgins, Johnny Holton
We already saw two blockbuster wide receiver trades involving DeAndre Hopkins and Stefon Diggs. The Cowboys didn’t let Amari Cooper hit the open market, as they signed him to a lucrative long-term deal. The Bengals tagged A.J. Green, but that still left some compelling names on the market.
Tight End
Signed: Ross Dwelley, Eric Ebron, Tyler Eifert, Darren Fells, Jimmy Graham, Demetrius Harris, Hunter Henry, Jacob Hollister, Austin Hooper, Blake Jarwin, Marcedes Lewis, Greg Olsen, Quinton Spain, Levine Toilolo, Jason Witten
Best available: Charles Clay, Jordan Reed, Luke Stocker, Geoff Swaim, Delanie Walker
A weak draft class at tight end put a premium on the free agents who became available. Hunter Henry got the franchise tag, while Austin Hooper was quickly snatched up. Veterans Greg Olsen, Jimmy Graham and Jason Witten had no troubles landing with teams, either.
Offensive Line
Signed: Daniel Brunskill, Bryan Bulaga, Anthony Castonzo, Jack Conklin, Rashaad Coward, George Fant, Cam Fleming, Ereck Flowers, Marcus Gilbert Graham Glasgow, Joe Haeg, D.J. Humphries, Joey Hunt, Roderick Johnson, Ted Karras, Alex Lewis, Justin McCray, Connor McGovern, John Miller, Justin Murray, Cedric Ogbuehi, Andrus Peat, Ty Sambrailo, Brandon Scherff, Brandon Shell, Matt Skura, Xavier Su’a-Filo, Joe Thuney, Ricky Wagner, Andrew Whitworth, Elijah Wilkinson, Daryl Williams, Stefen Wisniewski, Andrew Wylie
Best available: Demar Dotson, Cordy Glenn, James Hurst, Ronald Leary, Jason Peters
The Colts held on to left tackle Anthony Castonzo with an extension. Guards Joe Thuney and Brandon Scherff would have been next to new deals, but both received the franchise tag fairly quickly. Still, there’s a lot of beef out there!
Edge
Signed: Mario Addison, Arik Armstead, Shaquil Barrett, Vic Beasley, Ronald Blair, Bud Dupree, Dante Fowler Jr., Rodney Gunter, Bruce Irvin, Quinton Jefferson, Matt Judon, Roy Robertson-Harris, Branden Jackson, Carl Nassib, Yannick Ngakoue, Robert Quinn, Stephen Weatherly, Leonard Williams, Derek Wolfe
Best available: Jadeveon Clowney, Markus Golden, Everson Griffen, Clay Matthews, Cameron Wake
Getting to the quarterback is becoming more and more important as crazy-athletic passers continue to enter the league. The 49ers gave Arik Armstead a huge extension, while the Jaguars were quick to tag Yannick Ngakoue.
Defensive Tackle
Signed: Beau Allen, Andrew Billings, Michael Brockers, Adam Butler, Maliek Collins, Tyeler Davison, Sheldon Day, Brandon Dunn, Javon Hargrave, Shelby Harris, Chris Jones, Linval Joseph, Star Lotulelei, Gerald McCoy, Michael Pierce, Dontari Poe, Mike Purcell, D.J. Reader, Jarran Reed, A’Shawn Robinson, Danny Shelton, Ndamukong Suh, Josh Tupou, Antwaun Woods
Best available: Damon Harrison, Margus Hunt, Brandon Mebane
Chris Jones got the franchise tag, which is unsurprising because of how important he was to the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win. After him, D.J. Reader got a huge contract with the Bengals, and the market is beginning to be pretty depleted.
Linebacker
Signed: Vince Biegel, Jon Bostic, De’Vondre Campbell, Jamie Collins, Brandon Copeland, Thomas Davis, Kyler Fackrell, Leonard Floyd, B.J. Goodson, Jordan Jenkins, Devon Kennard, Christian Kirksey, Nick Kwiatkoski, Sean Lee, Cory Littleton, Blake Martinez, David Mayo, Kevin Minter, Nicholas Morrow, Denzel Perryman, Kevin Pierre-Louis, Reggie Ragland, Elandon Roberts, Joe Schobert, Danny Trevathan, Kyle Van Noy, Nick Vigil, Tahir Whitehead, Kyle Wilber, Eric Wilson
Best available: Mark Barron, Anthony Chickillo, Kareem Martin, Alec Ogletree
There are a lot of tackling machines available this year, even after guys like Jamie Collins, Cory Littleton, Thomas Davis, and Joe Schobert got big deals elsewhere.
Cornerback
Signed: Mackensie Alexander, James Bradberry, Bashaud Breeland, Anthony Brown, Ronald Darby, Michael Davis, Pierre Desir, Grant Haley, Vernon Hargreaves, Chris Harris Jr., Byron Jones, Nevin Lawson, Jalen Mills, Emmanuel Moseley, Brian Poole, Xavier Rhodes, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Bradley Roby, Jimmy Smith, Desmond Trufant, Levi Wallace, Trae Waynes
Best available: Prince Amukamara, Eli Apple, Darqueze Dennard, Johnathan Joseph, Logan Ryan
It’s unbelievable that someone as good as Byron Jones hit the open market, and he wasn’t there for long, signing a megadeal with the Dolphins. There are still quite a few corners worth kicking the tires on, however.
Safety
Signed: Vonn Bell, Tre Boston, Chuck Clark, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Anthony Harris, Jeff Heath, Eddie Jackson, Malcolm Jenkins, Karl Joseph, Devin McCourty, Jordan Poyer, Damarious Randall, Andrew Sendejo, Justin Simmons, Jimmie Ward
Best available: Morgan Burnett, Blake Countess, A.J. Howard, Tony Jefferson, Colin Jones, Reshad Jones, Eric Reid
Several big names at safety, like Devin McCourty, Anthony Harris, and Jimmie Ward, were scheduled to be free agents. Unfortunately for teams in need of safety help, all three are staying put, leaving the next tier of safeties for the rest of the league.

Jon Gruden says quarterback Nathan Peterman ‘is growing on me’
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Nathan Peterman (No. Three) attracts kudos from Jon Gruden. (Eric Risberg/Related Press) Cindy Boren Reporter protecting sports activities, with an emphasis on politics and nationwide tales July 31 at 9:11 AM Jon Gruden surveyed the quarterbacks on his Oakland Raiders coaching camp roster and one identify particularly stood out. For a change, the explanations have been optimistic. Nathan Peterman, whose makes an attempt to play quarterback for the Buffalo Payments led to spectacularly unhealthy trend, got here in for reward when Gruden was requested whether or not Peterman or Mike Glennon would again up Derek Carr. “I like these guys,” Gruden stated of his choices. “This Nate Peterman is growing on me. He’s athletic. I do know he’s had some nightmare performances within the NFL, however if you watch the movie you may see why. It’s not all his fault however he’s acquired some expertise, he’s acquired some athleticism, he’s acquired some expertise. “Right here’s a gap day starter for the Buffalo Payments final yr. I take that very critical. And he’s good. He’s executed job, he’s been constant and I feel he’s beginning to get his confidence again. And all of us want that.” Nightmare performances is correct. Peterman has performed in eight video games, beginning 4, over the 2017 and ’18 seasons. Most memorable (or maybe forgettable) was his efficiency within the season opener towards the Baltimore Ravens. With a zero.zero passer score in Buffalo’ 47-Three loss, he accomplished 5 of 18 passes and was twice intercepted. In 2017, he managed to have a greater passer score for the Los Angeles Chargers than the Payments, throwing 5 interceptions (and one decide six) for a legendary 41.1 passer score. His score for the Payments was 17.9. Focusing on the large image, he has accomplished 68 of 130 passes for 548 yards and three touchdowns, with a 32.5 passer score (and eight interceptions). Inserting stats apart, Gruden has lengthy seen one thing he likes in Peterman. “I do know what sort of child he’s and what sort of employee he’s,” he stated after the Raiders signed Peterman final December. “I like what he did at Pitt. They beat [then No. 2] Clemson. I like what he did in that recreation, at Clemson. He confirmed some actual savvy and a few actual pocket presence. He’s an athletic man. I do know he’s had some issues in Buffalo, however once more we’re speaking about our apply squad quarterback right here.” Gruden hasn’t wavered since his glowing evaluation in 2017. “Peterman is able to stroll in and be a contributor from day one,” he wrote for ESPN whereas nonetheless working within the “Monday Night time Soccer” sales space. “He simply appears to be like like a professional quarterback — popping out of the huddle, working an offense with completely different formations, shifting, motioning, completely different patterns that different faculties don’t run. Peterman will acknowledge route combos and affiliate formations . . . Most significantly, he’ll have the ability to get in a huddle from day one and have a look at 10 grown males and inform them the place to go and what to do and deal with a flexible snap depend.” Gruden should work out tips on how to recapture what he noticed again when he was an observer in addition to working on Peterman’s confidence, a mission made harder as a result of it can play out on nationwide TV, with the Raiders starring in HBO’s “Exhausting Knocks” beginning subsequent week. “I don’t watch or learn something, so I don’t see what individuals are saying about me,” Peterman stated in December. “One factor you be taught fairly fast is to tune out the surface noise.” Learn extra from The Submit: Perspective: Roger Goodell doesn’t care about integrity or consistency. The Robert Kraft case proves it. Louisiana decide says NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell can face questions in ‘no-call’ lawsuit After his NFL days finish, the Redskins’ Jonathan Allen goals to launch a video gaming profession (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

How to Beat the Heat Wherever the Street
AskMen Style Defined: Cool Style for the Warm Weather
Here at AskMen, we strive to bring you new and interesting content to help answer any questions you may have from sex and dating to health and fitness and food and booze. And this latest installment of our new weekly series AskMen Style Defined is all about taking the tropics — or at least tropical style — with you wherever you go.
RELATED: AskMen Style Defined Last Week: Tech Fabrics Make for a More Comfortable Spring
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Eric Wertz now resides in upstate New York, about an hour north of the city he once called home. As an electrician, avid traveler, and men’s lifestyle blogger, there is no shortage of inspiration for his site Blue Collar Prep. Focusing on fashion, food, and family, Wertz has a distinct style and bold visual presence on his blog as well as his Instagram page by the same name.
“Behind the fashionable IG posts, I’m a true family man who loves exploring and enduring any new adventure with my family,” Wertz says of his life we see in his photoshoots. “We are all avid skiers and love the Caribbean. From local road trips to aspirations of seeing as much of this world as we can together, any new experience I have I honestly always want it to me with my wife and son.”
To see Wertz’s stylish feed is to see someone who has a clear vision about who he is: “I’m a blue collar guy who happens to love fashion. It’s this passion that triggered my wife [Sarina] and I to start our own brand, BLUE #NotTheColorBlue.”
He and Sarina, a photographer in her own right started the brand with a simple, staple accessory of his — the beanie. “We started out with the one accessory I use in a lot of my looks and are currently working on some shirt designs,” he explains. “With such a full schedule it’s hard to devote 100 percent to anything right now, but I honestly love the balance of my life — from being a homeowner, a dad, a devoted hubby, a lifestyle blogger, a brand owner, I’m definitely never bored and love the versatility of everything we have going on right now.”
His wife isn’t just his partner in life and business, she, along with his late father, serve as constant inspiration every day. “My wife has just an effortlessly cool style and my father was able to pull off just about anything in terms of outfit selections,” he tells us. “I feel like a lot of the pieces I choose today, I could easily have seen him rocking back in the day!”
But like many of the creatives we speak with for our weekly series, Wertz doesn’t just draw inspiration from a single source. “My inspiration also comes from just about anywhere … from the many stylish guys on the ‘gram, to pieces my wife rocks, to someone on the street, to even the casually cool pieces my son [Nate] wears. I get my inspo from everything around me!”

“For this look featured I was actually on my way to a derby party for J. Peterman and chose these specific pieces from them to rock at the event,” he says about sophisticatedly styled spring ensemble. “I love this outfit and can’t wait to take that blue cargo jacket and re-work it into an entirely different look.”
It’s fitting that Wertz is a fan of travel to island destinations such as the Caribbean, since this outfit — from the Panama hat to the cropped summer-weight trousers — evokes feelings of tropical life even in an urban setting of New York City.
He continues on explaining that he likes blending different styles. “I’m definitely not just married to one. I like versatile pieces that can be used in any look, whether it’s street style, grunge, or more dapper vibes.” Judging from the variety of outfits in his feed, we can guess he will be bringing a lot more stylish ideas as the weather continues to warm up.
