Royals Edge Twins 5-2.
Twins 2 Royals 5 W-Misiewicz (1-1) L-Ober (1-3) SV-Barlow (23)
The Minnesota Twins are fading fast and wishing the season was over sooner than expected. The Royals beat them last night and looked for more tonight at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals bats got cooking in the first inning as MJ Melendez smacked a Bailey Ober fastball out to left-center for a solo homer. The Royals didn’t stop there as Bobby Witt Jr. singled and Salvador Perez doubled him home. Kansas City had a two-run lead after an inning of play. The Twins responded in the second with a Gary Sanchez lead-off walk. Gilberto Celestino singled to left and Matt Wallner lined a run-scoring base hit to left. This pulled Minnesota within a run after a pair of innings. The Royals would get that run back in the third when Salvador Perez led-off with a single to left. Vinnie Pasquantino doubled and Edward Olivares lined a two-out single to center to put the Royals back up by two runs again. The Twins wouldn’t give up as Nick Gordon reached on an error to start the fourth. He would later score on a Matt Wallner double to pull Minnesota within a run. Both starters settled down and the bullpens were pretty strong. Nate Eaton started a seventh inning rally with a lead-off single to right and stole second base. Bobby Witt Jr. hit an RBI single to center and Salvador Perez reached on an infield single. Vinnie Pasquantino hit into a double play to plate a run and extend the Kansas City lead to three. Dylan Coleman and Amir Garrett got out of the eighth. Scott Barlow had a clean ninth and the Royals took the series from the Twins tonight.
-Final Thoughts- Bailey Ober was decent after a rough first inning. He went five innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Aaron Sanchez gave up two runs on three hits over three innings with four strikeouts to save the bullpen. Matt Wallner had two hits and two RBI’s to lead the offense. The Twins hit 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position and lfet seven men on base. It’s hard to watch this team lately because they find ways to lose games. Tomorrow, Josh Winder faces Jonathan Heasley in the series finale from Kansas City.
