Some recent movies of little note:
DAY SHIFT (2022): Wearyingly bad action comedy about a down-on-his-luck L.A. pool cleaner, Bud Jablonski (Jamie Foxx), who's secretly a vampire hunter. Feels like a 10- or 15-year-old spec script that somehow got dusted off for a fading star who used to be a big shot, full of tired cliches, unfunny shtick, and wink-and-nudge references to Foxx's earlier film roles (which would be annoying even if this weren't one of his worst performances since the '90s). The action is slightly less exciting than watching someone else play RESIDENT EVIL, and when you see a movie use CGI blood for vampire tears, you know you're scraping the bottom of the barrel. CONTAINS LESBIANS? No, and it doesn't much like women in general. VERDICT: Strictly from hunger. If you're in the mood for this kind of thing, try ABIGAIL, which is almost as dumb, but not nearly as stale.
JEJÍ TĚLO (HER BODY) (2023): Uninspired dramatization of the life of former Czech Olympian Andrea Absolonová (Natália Germáni), a high-diving champion who was forced to retire in 1999 after a spinal injury and built a brief but successful second career as a porn star. It's an unusual story weakly executed, marred by Germáni's frosty, distant performance and the script's strange reluctance to get into Absolonová's head or examine what she got out of being in porn (which the film suggests she sought out fairly deliberately). The film could have drawn some specific connections between her athletic career and her later work as an adult model and actress, but it mostly doesn't bother, and the only point in which it seems to take any interest is her strained relationship with her parents and younger sister, which is presented in such a detached way that its emotional impact is nil. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Only some very brief performative bits from her films. VERDICT: Won't tell you anything about Absolonová that you couldn't get from her Wikipedia entry.
OMNI LOOP (2024): Teeth-gnashingly awful sci-fi parable about a dying physics professor, Zoya Lowe (Mary-Louise Parker), who's spent most of her life in a series of time loops, using a bottle of mysterious pills that let her reset her time to five days in the past. With only five days left to live, she enlists a young lab worker named Paula Campos (Ayo Edebiri) to help her figure out how the pills work so she can travel further back in time and fix her own life, no matter how many resets it takes. Parker is unendurably grating (in about the same manner as Rashida Jones in the terrible A24 streaming show SUNNY), the premise is cumbersomely handled (with part of the plot hinging on a jarring contrivance — the "nanoscopic man" — that has nothing to do with the time travel conceit), and the story ultimately collapses into intensely reactionary greeting card sentimentality whose thesis is that women are incapable of intellectual accomplishment without cheating and should instead accept their Womanly Duty™ to Home and Family™. Edebiri tries hard, but the story never stops treating Paula as an accessory. The conceptually similar THE EDGE OF TOMORROW at least has Emily Blunt's biceps to console you through its weaker moments. CONTAINS LESBIANS? No. VERDICT: The kind of sci-fi story that makes a compelling case for sending all sci-fi (and fantasy) writers to the gulag, beginning with writer-director Bernardo Britto.
SUBSERVIENCE (2024): If you walked away from M3GAN (2022) thinking it would've been the perfect movie if only someone had fucked the robot, this dreary new sci-fi/horror thriller has got you covered: In the near future, blue-collar husband Nick (Michele Morrone) buys a sexy domestic robot (Megan Fox) to keep house while his sick, possibly dying wife (Madeline Zima) is in the hospital; inevitably, Nick fucks the robot, who soon reveals herself as a homicidal menace. Here and there, there's a hint that the script could've done something at least momentarily interesting with this premise, but all you get is a predictable mashup of FATAL ATTRACTION and THE TERMINATOR. CONTAINS LESBIANS? If only. VERDICT: Even diehard Megan Fox fans can do better elsewhere.
WYNONNA EARP: VENGEANCE (2024): Unnecessary, somewhat lazy feature-format revival of the 2016–2021 TV show, returning the titular descendant of Wyatt Earp (Melanie Scrofano), her magical demon-slaying revolver, her two-centuries-old boyfriend Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon), her younger sister Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley, now with fetching short hair and more tattoos than I recall their having before), and Waverly's wife Nicole Haught (Katherine Barrell) to fight one more demon who has ties to Wynonna's unhappy past. Produced for Tubi, the movie has more profanity than the episodic series, but neither the plot nor the characters will make much sense if you're not already a fan. Even if you are, VENGEANCE feels pretty pointless, as the series finale already gave the characters a reasonably satisfactory sendoff, and this reunion makes a weak case for a relaunch. CONTAINS LESBIANS: Indeed, although Waverly now describes herself as pansexual. VERDICT: Inessential even for fans, although if you've nothing else to watch, you could do worse.

We Might As Well Be Dead
Tumblr media
We Might As Well Be Dead    [trailer]
Security officer Anna and her daughter live peacefully in a high-rise at the edge of the woods famous for its carefully curated community. Until the day a dog disappears and an irrational fear spreads through this would be utopia.
Parable about a special kind of dystopian world, one that in some places is already real in the form of gated communities. Showing that no matter how much you try to fit in, you will always be the outsider.
Movie turned out to be more interesting than expected. Traces of the absurd films of Yorgos Lanthimos, though this one feels a lot more grounded.

Award II
Alexia Putellas x Hardersson!Reader
Aitana Bonmatí x Hardersson!Reader
Natalia Guijarro (OC) x Hardersson!Reader
Part of The Big Adventures Universe
Summary: You are finally rewarded for being the best
Tumblr media
You don't play football for the fame.
You've never played football for fame or money or awards.
You play football because you love it.
It's been apart of your life for as long as you can remember. Your parents still have your first Wolfsburg kit, back when you were a baby and couldn't do anything but cry.
The fame, the money, the trophies all just came along with the sport you love.
The responsibility of carrying your country and your club doesn't weigh on you much, not when you have such passion for the game and your teams.
The first time you felt such responsibility was on your youth team, captaining them to a successful Under-17 Euros. Then, the responsibility was back at Barcelona. You were made the third captain after half a season back from your loan to Lyon.
When you left, the responsibility stayed, being made the sole captain for your country. You've spent a year at Wolfsburg now, the club of your childhood, and the band for your club wraps around your arm in preparation for next season.
Denmark Youth Captain.
Barcelona Third Captain.
Sweden Senior Captain.
Wolfsburg First Captain.
You didn't play football to become a leader but somehow you've become one, moving from yelling orders from your defence to yelling orders at the whole team.
You are an expert keeper. You always have been.
People around you say you've made your mark on the game and you haven't even retired yet. People look at you for what a keeper should be, for how a leader should act.
(People whisper that all keepers coming up the ranks now try to mimic your style, your natural instinct and abilities).
It's only inevitable that you have the trophy cabinet to back up your skill.
Two World Cups sit in your cabinet. Two Golden Gloves as well.
Multiple Keeper of the Year trophies.
An Olympic medal.
A Euros medal.
And then awards for at club level too.
Liga F, Copa de la Reina and Supercopa sit in the apartment you used to share with Natalia with a Première Ligue and Coupe de France medal too.
Your Champion's League medals sit with Natalia's on the wall.
Everything you won at Linköping and Arsenal are at home in Sweden whilst your most recent Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal medals are at your apartment in Germany.
You are the greatest goalkeeper playing in the women's leagues at the moment and, while you cannot see it, everyone else knows it.
You've come to the ceremony to eat some of the bar food and maybe see some of your old Lyon teammates.
Talia has come to the ceremony to see you make history.
Alexia and Aitana are the ones presenting the award and just from the way they're smiling, Talia knows the result.
You've been ranked highly ever since your first nomination. That time, you'd ranked eleventh. Every time after that, you've finished in the top ten.
Your name is called and the world stops.
You suck in a breath, frozen in your seat like you're in the Champion's League final with only a one goal lead and the other team advancing on your goal with lethal efficiency.
You don't know what to do. You don't know what to say.
Your wife allows your tuck your head into her neck, not flinching as your tears drip down onto her suit blazer.
"It's okay, baby," Talia says to you," You deserve this so much."
She helps you to your feet, hiding your face as you wipe your tears where cameras can't see.
You force yourself to walk up the stairs to the stage without stumbling. You suck in a breath.
There it is.
The most prestigious award in football.
It was a few years ago now that Talia won hers. She'd had a standout season during her first as Barcelona's captain. She was lethal on goal for club and country.
There was never any doubt it would be here.
That's the way it always is.
Everyone always expects a striker or a midfielder. Sometimes, it's a defender. It's never been a keeper though, at least for the women's.
Second goalkeeper in history.
First female goalkeeper in history.
Aitana is the one nearest to you.
You're taller than her by a lot, towering over her but she still hugs you like you were little, like you were still the little girl she met when hunting down Pernille's shirt.
One of her hands comes up to cup your cheek.
"You've grown up," She says and you force yourself not to cry," You're so big now."
Alexia is next. You last saw her a few weeks ago when you came back to Spain for the weekend and attended one of Talia's games. Alexia made you come down from the stands and asked about Wolfsburg and how your season was going.
She was all business then and you'd been as vague as possible, in case she remembered something that could be used against you during the next rounds of the Champion's League.
But now, there's no hint of professionalism in her eyes as she pulls you into a hug.
"I told you," She whispers," I told you that you'd get this one day. Remember this feeling, okay? There's nothing better in the world. There's no one better in the world."
She pulls away and hands you the award.
You turn to the cameras, to the audience all on their feet clapping you.
You lift up your Ballon D'or for all to see.

Blaugrana Were The Colours
The dream was slipping from her fingertips. Y/N's sacrifice was necessary after Vilda's blacklist was made public. Luckily for the Spaniards, Y/N wasn't one to back away from a fight.
Tumblr media
Weeks of harassment followed. Y/N's image was torn to shreds by the Spanish media. As history repeated itself, her fellow national teammates showed their support for the Catalonian on social media, but just like in the past - it made no difference.
Luckily, Eintracht Frankfurt's plan worked wonders. The German team provoked the much needed uproar in the Spanish Federation. Having friends in high places was worth the hassle : Vilda was out.
Real Sociedad made a tough statement of their own, letting go of a legendary manager, Natalia Arroyo. She hadn't managed to deliver continuous European football for the Basque team. Her future would soon be sealed, she was appointed as the National Team Manager.
There she was, in full glory. A team of gladiators stood behind her. With little to no time, they had to prepare for the World Cup - and what a tournament it was.
The Spanish were hit with further good news - the all mighty Alexia Putellas was available. Spain's chances kept growing by the minute, they had the team and the hunger to cause a major upset.
The group stage began as it was expected. The team hadn't gelled yet, they needed more time. But when things got tough, Alexia showed up. Scoring in crucial moments, leading the Spaniards to the top of their group.
Y/N watched from a distance. The sidelines never suited her, but she stuck around regardless. Interchanging her Spanish jersey with Laura Freigang's German one, she was all over the place. Supporting her friends, regardless of how she felt.
That was her spot - Alexia wasn't meant to play this world cup.
Many people would feel anger, resentment - but that wasn't Y/N. She was happy that her sacrifice had worked, but deep down she was sad, she felt abandoned. Now stuck in limbo, nobody knew her future. Everyone expected her to continue in Fc Barcelona, but the Germans had other plans.
They kept their promise, the news would only be made public after the World Cup. Y/N had time to explain, she had time to say her goodbyes.
Late night calls, random invites to her hotel room; Alexia did her best to keep Y/N in the loop. The Barcelona players followed their captain's lead. Nobody understood why Y/N wasn't called up, she sure had what it took to make a difference.
Regardless of that, Alexia did her best to keep a smile on Y/N's face. It wasn't hard; the Catalonian melted every time Alexia laid eyes on her. Practically in a smitten state, Y/N was falling and so was Alexia.
The constant texting turned into late night calls, the random game nights into impromptu sleepovers. They soon became inseparable.
That was until Germany faced Spain in the semi-finals. Laura stuck to the Catalonians hip, Oberdorf hanging from her neck - she looked at home, at peace. The Germans were set to steal Y/N away from Alexia, again.
Said moment was engraved in Alexias mind, that moment, it became a mental picture she used to ignite her anger; her need to win. Making a point to embarrass the Germans on the field - maybe that would make Y/N rethink her future.
She hadn't realized that her stepping onto the pitch with the Spanish crest on her chest had sealed Y/N's fate.
The Spanish going through to the final was bittersweet. Her Barcelona teammates wished to celebrate it with Y/N but her attention was elsewhere.
Pulled away by her soon to be rivals, Y/N was lifted onto Maria Leon's shoulders. The defender wasn't in the know, but she suspected something.
"Will you ever tell us what happened?" Keeping her question as vague as possible, Mapi was out for blood. Not a fan of coincidences, the Spaniard found the timing weird - one week, Y/N's image is torn to shreds, the next: Vilda is thrown out the door.
An answer never came, at least not the one the defender was looking for "Maybe when all this is over Leon, go celebrate, you deserve it"
Y/N made her way to her German friends, all crumbled on the floor - crying their eyes out. It came like second nature to her; Y/N was the calm after the storm. Consoling her friends, she soon stole some smiles out of them. Cheering them up enough to dance with the fans.
That's when Alexia realized "We have lost her", a statement that didn't fall on deaf ears. All eyes turned to Y/N. Everyone knew what their captain was talking about. Seeing their teammate with the Germans; that was a statement of its own.
They had lost the rough diamond that they had polished, the person that would fight their battles without fear - the perfect teammate.
It all started to sink in - all the times Y/N disappeared when certain topics were brought up, the times she skipped team bonding, the all too coincidental mood shifts before the Federations statements.
How could they miss it when it was all right there?
Nobody expected Maria Leon to step in for the pre-match talk. She hadn't done it before, but what a way to make her debut.
"This isn't just about that trophy. We are only here because Y/N threw herself to the wolves, don't forget that" words that confirmed what everyone suspected. It was real - Y/N had been their savior. Now, it was up to them to fight. "Let's win this for her"
The Lionesses were playing against ghosts. Whoever they faced managed to slip their grasp before they could react. Their previous encounter in the Euros was incomparable.
Spain had someone on the sidelines looking out for them. A team with everybody rowing for the same goal - revenge.
Lifting the trophy, hoping that they had changed the course of Y/N's career. Ignorance was bliss, until they saw Y/N's face. The fight was lost long before the World Cup began.
From euphoric celebrations to tearful goodbyes. Nobody wanted their holiday to end, especially Y/N. Spending the last days of her contract with her Barcelona teammates felt like the perfect ending.
Y/N had earned the title of Hero, for both club and country, but now she was Alexia's hero too.
Barcelona's captain was going through a rough patch of her own, a messed up romantic life, her support system: aka Y/N, leaving soon after.
The Catalonian was left scrambling and only Y/N could catch her.
