You can look at Nanoha's first reaction to Vivio being "we need to find this kid's real mom" / "but I'll look after her meanwhile" / "but we still need to find her ACTUAL mom"

compared to Fate's history with Caro and Erio of

"I'm not old enough to adopt them so my adopted mom will sign the paperwork until I can be their legal guardian" and Vvio "legally I'm just Nanoha's friend but I am also the 'fate-mama' to our newly adopted daughter" and then with former enemy Lutecia "so her mother is still out of commission and that means I'll be her guardian until things get better"

you could say, that's just Fate being kind softhearted Fate, and Nanoha being stubborn like usual, but the thing is, it tracks so well with both their experiences AS children WITH their families

Nanoha's childhood was lonely sure, but never because her birth family didn't love her or try their best to care for and support her. She values the way she was raised- repeats it with Vivio later on, giving her freedom and responsibility, focusing on teaching Vivio how to stand up on her own after getting hurt, letting her have the tools and chances to make dangerous mistakes and learn from them. Even (spoilers for Vivid) even when her kid has a completely messed up leg after fighting in a tournament for FUN, Nanoha says she's proud of her for that, for Vivio following through and putting in her all, and helping her new friends and competitors grow as people along the way

All of that Nanoha got from her parents and her family, the ones she was born into.

So when she first meets lost and abandoned Vivio, she thinks, where is this girl's family? It takes a while for Nanoha to sink into the idea of Vivio not being born into a family that cares or can care for her. It takes time for Nanoha to decide, actually, maybe SHE could be Vivio's family now. Maybe she already is

And Fate- it's easy to joke about her running around adopting every kid she sees- but a lot of people I know who WERE happily adopted later in life are like that too. It's not universal. Still for people who know what the difference can be and how GOOD it can be, some of them end up like Fate, they end up repeating what their own adopted family did (Lindy her mother, and Chrono her big brother, looking after Fate while she was still facing trial, asking her very gently if they could all be a family together) and when Fate sees other kids being abandoned or locked away she also repeats what her family taught her by immediately reaching out. She offers to be there for Erio and Caro and deals with figuring out HOW to do that afterwards, accepts making that her job to study up on and get advice about while already knowing that it can work. She's been living proof that a family that's made by choice can be wonderful- just as good or better than the one she lost before.

But she also knows how much a parent can hurt a child, even without whips involved. Fate is soft with her kids, worried about them and for them and how they feel about her, never wanting them to think for a moment that she doesn't care or would be okay with them being hurt, and it's a reaction to her birth mom Precia, sure- (her memories of how a kind mother could be be so cruel to a child she didn't love)-

it's also just as much a repeat of Lindy's gentleness with Fate, too. Lindy who signed that paperwork so her teenage daughter could split time between her new career and two different kids who needed her. Fate wanted to be there for children who had no one, and Lindy made it work.

So when Nanoha finally decides to try being Vivio's mom, even though she wasn't Vivio "real" mother- Fate is already settled into them all being a family. She's there and ready to make this work.

I just always really like the writing in that. How you start off with these nine year old magical girls, and when you check back in with them 10-15 years later, everything they lived through at age nine has shaped them into the people and parents they end up being together today.

It's very sweet. I love that for them, for all of them.

hey, I recognize that "rolling along" onomatopeia from Train to the End of the World!

I love how determinedly normal Nanako is. Sainte-Juste passes out calling her a doll, and rambling about some prophetic fairytale, and Nanako is just like "okay. how about I make you some pudding. :)"

"incredibly edgy dramatic tragic-backstory anime girl meets a girl who is just like. normal" is a very fun story to me

incredibly niche comparison: this is just like the nanoha vivid manga

Sainte-Juste is very tragic and all that of course. But "fridge only has random frozen ready meals" is I think the state of most teenagers who are cooking for themselves. Or at least a normal amount of them.

Kaoru to Sainte-Juste: "Are you a masochist!" I don't know, she wasn't in the room when Nanako started rambling about de Sade

look, I get why Nanako is lying to Miya here, and I do think that admitting she helped Sainte-Juste would not go well. But if she admitted it, she could play it off, make it sound like she didn't know what/why was going on. Lying badly about it not only makes it clear something happened, it makes it clear she doesn't trust Miya

Just finished rewatching Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Season 1 & 2 of the anime tv series and the movies Reflection/Detonation.

I feel like after watching it I need to (finish watching everything released of course) but also rewatch/watch more magical girl anime. There are certain things I move away from but always love and shows with magical girls are one of them.

But Nanoha! One of my absolute favs. Some thoughts.

Raising Heart is the most insane intelligent device. This thing doesn't give a fuck. Anytime anything major goes down the first reaction is: I must win at all cost. What I have in mind might kill me? Fuck you. Nothing kills me. I'm Raising Heart. I don't ever get destroyed. Do the crazy ass thing Nanoha.

Nanoha is surprisingly angsty and emo. I forgot how many problems she hides beneath that sunny exterior. Detonation legit goes into Nanoha chatting with her younger self about how she doesn't love herself. And that even if she doesn't she should try to remember other people do and value herself more.

These children don't act like children. They're middle aged in their mindset. I wish I had my shit this together in elementary/middle school. What the hell.

Fate is the best girl. Always. Stay soft forever, Fate.

Hayate remains my favorite. Reflection/Detonation made me happy with some Hayate focus, but I didn't much appreciate what happened to/around her. Also, for as much fucked up shit that she's gone through I think she's the most well-adjusted. It would honestly make me happy if I could ship Hayate with someone in the future series but legit nada... I can't think of anyone who fits. They should just bring back Reinforce somehow.

This anime has the best action sequences. I love their system of magic, how it's mixed with sci-fi. The world they built is interesting and really in depth with the details they put in. I love it.

Nanoha is incapable of meeting an antagonistic girl that attacks her without thinking: how do I save her? How do I become her friend? Running around like Captain Save A Ho. That's all she cares about. Saving ladies. I can respect it.

Going to rewatch Strikers and Vivid then watch Vivid Strike! sometime soon. Maybe I'll write Hayate fanfic. She deserves it. Even if only two people will read it. lol.

Honestly this series though. Top tier. At some point it would be nice if they made the very obvious subtext but is it really subtext if they bath together, sleep in same bed, and raise a child together couple of Fate and Nanoha an acknowledged canon thing.

Because the fandom knows. Everyone who watches knows.

ANIME RECAP: FESTA DEL PAPÀ EDITION

Con tutti questi annunci e trailer, cosa è rimasto per l'AnimeJapan?!

Ho iniziato a raccogliere le varie news venerdì pomeriggio. Ogni volta che pensavo di aver finito, usciva qualcosa di nuovo. Ancora e ancora, non sto scherzando! A più riprese ero lì, che mi guardavo attorno, in cerca di qualche telecamera nascosta 🤨 Ho letteralmente esaurito il numero di embed per i video che mi consente Tumblr, senza andare a scomodare l'editor html!

Considerato che la prossima settimana si tiene la nuova edizione dell'AnimeJapan, ci sono veramente tanti annunci dei quali parlare e una serie pressoché infinita di trailer. Quindi bando le ciance, buon ANIME RECAP e visto che ci siamo, auguri a tutti i papà!

La serie sarà divisa in due parti, con la seconda programmata per ottobre.

L’adattamento è diretto da Manabu Ono (Sword Art Online: Alicization, Sakura Wars the Animation), presso lo studio GEEK TOYS.

🔶🔸THE VEXATIONS OF A SHUT-IN VAMPIRE PRINCESS

L'action fantasy comedy (con un pizzico di juicy yuri che non fa mai male 👀) debutterà in Giappone a ottobre.

La serie animata si basa sulla light novel firmata da Kotei Kobayashi. La regia è affidata a Tatsuma Minamikawa (Nami yo Kiitekure, Fire Force - Stagione 2) e il progetto è targato PROJECT No.9.

🔶🔸KUMA KUMA KUMA BEAR PUNCH!

La seconda stagione della commedia isekai, tratta dalla light novel di Kumano, comincerà dal 3 aprile.

Lo staff è lo stesso della prima stagione, andata in onda due anni fa. A dirigere l'adattamento presso EMT Squared ci sono sempre Yuu Nobuta (The Faraway Paladin, High School Fleet) e Hisashi Ishii (I’m Quitting Heroing).

Nessuna novità riguardo allo staff, ma in questo primo teaser le waifu ci sono eccome!

🔶🔸ALYA SOMETIMES HIDES HER FEELINGS IN RUSSIAN

La commedia romantica firmata da Sunsunsun ispirerà una serie animata. L'annuncio non ha svelato quando arriverà e chi si sta occupando della trasposizione della novel (della quale esiste anche una versine manga volendo).

Per le voci dei due protagonisti sono, però, già confermati Kohei Amasaki (Otto in Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-) e Sumire Uesaka (Hayase Nagatoro in Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro), rispettivamente i doppiatori di Masachika Kuze e Alisa Mikhailovna Kujo.

La serie tornerà prossimamente con una seconda stagione. I primi 10 episodi del fantasy post-apocalittico, tratto dalla serie di romanzi di Rieko Hinata, sono in streaming su Crunchyroll.

L'anime è diretto da Junji Nishimura (Ranma ½, ViVid Strike!, True Tears, Vlad Love), mentre il grande Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers, Jin-Roh - Uomini e lupi, Lamù - Beautiful Dreamer, Vlad Love, Tenshi no Tamago) si sta occupando della sceneggiatura.

Il franchise torna prepotentemente in tv con un'altra nuova serie. Dopo THE iDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS: U149 e THE iDOLM@STER MILLION LIVE, in arrivo rispettivamente dal 5 aprile e da ottobre, adattamento confermato anche per il browser game SHINY COLORS.

La serie di 12 episodi verrà trasmessa durante la stagione primaverile 2024, ma passerà in anteprima nei cinema divisa in tre appuntamenti, il prio dei quali è fissato per il 27 ottobre.
