Troy looks up from his cup of tea, squinting hard at Nancy as she stumbles into the kitchen. “You look like hell.” He does not wait for more of an explanation. He just starts fixing her a cup of tea. It is only after he sets the cup down at her elbow that he speaks again. “Just tell me you had nightmares last night, and that’s why you look so rough. If you were out running around all night trying to do who knows what, I’m locking you in your room tonight. You have to sleep at some point, Nancy, even if you have a case.” Nancy has a bad habit of running herself ragged when she is hunting clues. Her world centers around each case, and she is fascinated by the work. Unfortunately, that means she burns her candle on so many ends that she is left with a stub in no time flat. Though it is not part of his official duties, Troy has decided it is part of his job to make sure Nancy manages to reach thirty without having some kind of meltdown. At the rate she is going, he might have his work cut out for him.

Well, this story is complete. I finished it on Friday and will be fully uploaded in two weeks. With chapters 14/15 next week on the 31st and 16/17 on April 7th.

This has been one hell of a ride. I never thought I would ever do omegaverse. But this one just demanded to be written.

Steve loved shopping. It was his favorite thing in the world. He especially loved it when he went with Chrissy or Robin or sometimes even both. But he was finding out that shopping with Eddie was special.

“I’m going to rock your world, sweetheart,” Eddie murmured when they entered the shop.

It was all high end, naturally. But it was the type of stuff Steve would have bought for himself back in high school.

“Eddie...” he whined a little.

It was sweet, it really was. But he couldn’t wear the ‘uniform’ of a omega housewife. Not anymore.

“Just wait, darlin’,” Eddie whispered, “it’s gonna be good.”

Just then a man came over. He was short, barely 5’5”. He had warm brown skin and silver hair.

“Hello, loves,” he said, voice as warm as his skin tone. His accent was the vaguely British of someone who had lived in the United States for a long time.

“Hello,” Eddie greeted, kissing him on each cheek. “Steve, this is Raj. Raj, this is Steve Harrington, he’s a Starcourt omega.”

Raj clasped his hands together. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Steve.”

Eddie turned to Steve. “Raj is a professional stylist. He’s dressed me for many an event and he’s going to help you find your style.”

Steve smiled at him. Because of course Eddie was only trying to help and not make him feel inferior about liking a style that he couldn’t wear.

“Come on, love,” Raj said, “tell me what you like.”

And so Steve did just that.

They spent the afternoon trying on several different combinations and styles that Steve felt like he was a runway model to the crowd of one.

Eddie sat on a big, white, overstuffed armchair and made comments on everything Steve tried on.

Three hours later, Steve was walking out of the store in a navy blue striped polo and tight fitted jeans and several bags filled with clothes of a similar style.

Steve laughed when he exited the shop, twirling around with his bags. Just so happy.

Xander took the bags from Steve and put them in the trunk of the car to keep the bags from going flying.

Eddie pulled him in for a kiss.

“God, you are so gorgeous when you’re happy,” he murmured into Steve’s neck.

Steve hummed. “Well, it’s a good thing that the thing that makes me happiest is you, huh?”

Eddie looked up at him with a tender smile. “Back attcha, big boy.”

Steve wrapped his arms around his neck and kissed him deeply.

“Will I get to see you before the Grammy’s on Sunday?” he asked, softly.

Eddie sighed. “Unfortunately not. I have so many interviews and shit that I just won’t have time.”

“That’s okay. I still have other work I’ve got scheduled this week.”

Eddie kissed him deeply. “You have fun, babe and I’ll see you on Sunday.”

“Bye.”

Eddie watched as the car pulled away from the curb. He had gotten to meet both Robin and Xander, the two people tasked with keeping Steve safe and he found that he loved them both.

And that fact settled one of the worries in his chest about Steve, knowing that his boy was being looked after properly when he wasn’t around.

“Troy’s coming,” Robin said, “I’m not asking, I’m telling you.”

Steve glared at her. “He’s creepy.”

“He’s really not,” she defended. “He’s very protective of the omegas in his care and I need a second pair of eyes on you tonight.”

“I don’t see why,” Steve said rolling his eyes. “I’ve done hundreds of events with only one handler in the past. What makes tonight so special?”

“The press.”

Steve huffed. “I literally when to an event for the press with Nancy, how is this any different?”

“Because these aren’t the civilized press, Steve,” Robin said menacingly. “These are the vultures. The bottom of the barrel. Sleazy, gasping, horrible people who will judge you, seek to tear you down, and humiliate you.”

Steve let out a long sigh. “Fine.”

“Thank you.” She kissed his cheek. “Eddie has his own security, but they’ve been coordinating with Troy and me all week. What’s your signal for needing to get out quick?”

“Moving my clutch from my left hand to my right,” he said.

She nodded. That was a good signal. Steve liked his right hand free to shake hands with people.

“What’s your signal if you need to get away from the alpha?” she asked next.

“I take out my earrings,” he dutifully replied.

Again, not something Steve would normally do, so she nodded.

“The code word to get both of you away from someone who is harassing one or both of you is ‘caveat’.”

“As in ‘one of the caveats for dating an escort is to be understanding when something work related comes up’?”

Robin grinned. “Perfect. All right, we’re good to go.”

Steve grabbed his black clutch and matching shawl. It was February in California, but it was still February.

He draped the shawl over his shoulders and walked out to the car.

Troy and Robin got into a white SUV with Troy at the wheel.

Steve slid into his car to find a waiting Eddie.

“Well this is a surprise,” he cooed, sliding up to press himself against his boyfriend’s side.

Eddie chuckled, lifting his arm to wrap around his shoulders. “Benefits of properly courting you, darlin’. Management is letting me know where you live. Ish.”

“Ish?” Steve asked, scenting along Eddie’s jaw.

“Yeah,” he murmured. “The windows were tinted so I don’t know exactly where we are, but I know enough.”

“Ah.”

Yeah, that made sense.

“You look so pretty, baby,” Eddie said, changing the topic. “You look good enough to eat.”

Steve chuckled. “So do you.”

And he did. He was wearing a black suit coat with black rhinestones embroidered into the lapels, with a white button up shirt that decidedly not, tucked into a pair of black slacks. On his neck were several necklaces and chains and his wrists were covered in bangles and more chains.

He had a single earring in his left ear which was an upside down cross.

Steve was enraptured.

“This is all for you, baby doll,” Eddie murmured into Steve’s ear. “I rarely dress up for these things, but I wanted to look good for you.” His hand reached around to cup Steve’s ass. “Especially with you looking like sex on legs in that short dress.”

Steve chuckled. “You keep this up and we’re going end up torturing poor Xander’s ears by having sex back here.”

Eddie’s eyes blew wide. “Shit Stevie, if we didn’t have to be there at a specific time, I would absolutely hold you to that.” And he pulled Steve even closer to him so that the omega could feel the reaction to his words.

Steve couldn’t stop himself from scenting Eddie again.

“Did I tell you that thing the attracted me to you second to you being the sweetest thing,” he murmured, “was your scent?”

Eddie licked his lips. “Right back ya. Together we smell of Christmas.”

Steve giggled. “A little bit, yeah.”

Xander caught Steve’s eye in the rearview mirror and raised his eyebrow causing the omega to blush, ducking his head shyly.

Xander knew something that Robin didn’t as she couldn’t be in the car with him for things like this.

Despite a Starcourt escorts’ reputation for being sex pots, sex wasn’t allowed in the back of the car. Mainly because of the driver, but also because what they did was meant to be higher than just make outs in the back of a car.

It wasn’t a rule, like not giving out their personal number was a rule, but it was a guideline that Steve had adhered to almost religiously. So for him to even suggest jumping Eddie was completely out of character for him.

Eddie raised Steve’s head gently with his forefinger. “You look so pretty when you blush, baby, but there is nothing going on here that you need to be ashamed of, okay?”

Steve nodded.

Just then the car rolled to a stop, signaling that they had arrived at the red carpet.

Behind them Troy and Robin stepped out with Eddie’s two security members. All of them dressed in black suits and ties with pristine white button up shirts.

All of them pulled out their sunglasses and slid them on. Troy walked up to the door and opened it.

Eddie slid out first, waving to the crowd. Then he turned around and helped Steve get out of the car. Steve waved, too, then slipped his hand around Eddie’s arm.

“The first interview is with Vanity Fair, Kayla Brosnahan,” Troy murmured to them. “She’s very fashion orientated so she’ll ask about your clothes first.”

Steve nodded. He glanced at Eddie, who nodded.

They walked up to the beautiful alpha reporter in a long, slinky, red dress.

“Kayla, Vanity Fair,” she said to the cameraman, “here with Eddie Munson, frontman of Corroded Coffin who is up for three awards tonight, and Starcourt escort, Steve Harrington.”

She turned to them. “Wow! You two look absolutely stunning together. Who designed your clothes tonight?”

Steve smiled. “Omega designer, Lola Martinez and the jewelry is by St Giovanni.”

“Wow,” she breathed. “Those are some pretty big names. And how about you, Eddie? Who are you wearing tonight?”

“Jimmy Pantera.”

Jimmy was a known alternative style fashion designer. Chains, leather, denim, studs; basically the metal and grunge scene. What Eddie as wearing would have been very conservative for his collection.

“Very nice,” Kayla said. “I can see it now. Wow.” She turned to Steve. “Have you had any clients cancel on you because you’re being courted?”

Eddie bristled and was about to lay into her when Steve touched his elbow.

Steve batted his eyelashes with a simpering pout. “Oh, Kayla, you know all client information is confidential.” Kayla opened her mouth to say something snide, but Steve beat her to it. “Plus, I don’t kiss and tell. Not like a certain omega who’s been warming your bed.”

Suddenly she was sputtering and back tracking. “Eddie, you’re up for three awards tonight, what are your hopes for tonight?”

“Corroded Coffin and I are very happy to have been nominated for Best Metal Album, Album of the Year, and Single of the Year for ‘Hell’s Lookin’ Better Than Heaven’, but we were disappointed we weren’t nominated for more. Best Metal Performance is a prime example. Even though we made more money then any other touring band last year, we weren’t even considered.”

Again Kayla was forced to back track and try to start over but they had chosen that moment to move on. Kayla turned to her camera and made a slicing motion across her throat to tell him to stop taping.

All the interviews kept in the same vein. They would be chatty, ask about what they were wearing or who they were most excited to see perform and then drop shit like:

“Are you going to make Steve stop escorting once finish your courtship?”

To which Eddie replied, “I’m not so fragile that I need constant validation that my dick is big enough. Stevie is his own person and if he wants to keep working, why would I stop him?”

Followed by back pedaling and Steve and Eddie moving on.

Next asshole:

“Steve, are you angling for a bond to get out of being an escort?”

Steve and Eddie just blinked at him like he was too stupid for words. They just walked off.

Once Troy just moved them past an interviewer calling their name.

Steve looked down and a little behind him. “What was wrong with that one?”

“He’s been sexually harassing omegas that come through,” Troy muttered back. “Making lewd comments, making passes at them, touching them without their consent.”

Steve nodded and Eddie put a protective hand on his lower back. They made it through the gauntlet and into the Radio Music Hall.

They sat down at the table that already had the rest of the band and their plus ones and settled into enjoy the show.

It’s a Tuesday in the middle of summer, the summer right after she graduated and hasn’t found a job yet. She leaves the city, then drives like a bat out of hell for as long as she can before finally hitting the New York traffic.

I saw that post about r/nance supposedly not being a betrayal to Steve and sent a follow up ask that brought up that they're breakup wasn't exactly amicable and they were like "I don't think their breakup was any messier than an average high schooler. They dated for a while and weren't good for each other so the relationship ended and Steve just wants Robin to be happy

They also acknowledged their high school experience involved a friend group that dated around with each other and that some people's perspectives might be different to theirs if they had worse experiences with that, despite their initial post implying that people who "hone in" on r/nance are lesbiphobic but whatever

They're tags said that being a Nancy and Steve fan allowed them to view their relationship "critically" which is a funny wording, because they were expressing annoyance at people actually criticizing it

Their initial tags also said "bro code doesn't exist when you and your ex are clearly not meant to be in a relationship"

I also tried to address their point that if they both had a crush on the same person like vickie I think they could discuss it and either both decide to hold off or let the crush choose (like troy and abed did in that valentines day episode) but I think they thought I was referring to r/nance, kind of agreeing with them, so that was annoying

anyone trying to say stancy had a normal high school break up is insane. what the actual fuck did they have going on during high school?

it’s not that they ‘weren’t good together’, stancy broke up because while at first nancy liked the way steve hid from his trauma, and she was happy to act normally, it eventually started getting to her. she blamed the both of them for her best friends death and wanted to get justice, while steve was too afraid of being killed to do so. nancy also has a fear of being alone after barb’s death, which led her to dating steve despite not feeling about him as strongly as he did her. they finally broke up because steve realised she had feelings for another man (but didn’t realise she and jonathan had actually already slept together), and knew that they couldn’t go back to way they had been acting before.

if they’ve experienced any of that, they need therapy. because this is not normal. it’s pretty drenched in trauma and misery.

and yeah, steve wants robin to happy, with her canon crush vickie. not his ex, with whom he had a pretty explosive breakup that lasted days. and who he still has feelings for.

yeah, it’s kinda funny that they implied anyone that doesn’t like r//nance is lesbophobic when there are different lesbian ships in the fandom. (it actually kinda pisses me off that so much of that side of the fandom seems to think they’re special; if you don’t like r//nance you’re lesbophobic, if you don’t like nancy you’re a misogynist. get a grip, and please look outside your immediate vicinity, there are other female characters!)

i honestly think if you hate stancy and refuse to engage with their actual relationship, to the point that you ignore scenes and try to overwrite them and impose your own feelings onto the characters, you will never be able to understand their characters. that relationship is a core part of who those characters are. and trying to dismiss it as high school drama is getting rid of large swathes of character for both characters.

bro code absolutely still exists even when the two people shouldn’t have been in that relationship? like what? and even if we ignore that bro code, bros before hoes baby. robin is Never putting nancy before steve and steve wouldn’t put his love interest before robin either.

and yeah, if they had a crush on the same person, they’d figure it out. but i think their figuring it out is absolutely just, “wow that girl’s hot. nice! same taste in women.” *highfive*

Steve was never the most studious person at East High, but the beginning of a new semester made even him excited. Not to mention this was the semester where they would be battling for the basketball championship.

Feeling lighthearted and excited, Steve got off the bus and was immediately swarmed with Tommy and the other members of the basketball team. Everyone was eager to give him a high five or say hi, and who was Steve to deny them? He high-fived and cheered and fist-bumped his way through the front doors of the school, with Tommy right behind him every step of the way.

He didn’t even stutter when he passed Nancy Wheeler in the halls, a marked improvement from the end of the last semester when he couldn’t even look her way. The Ice Princess of East High had shattered his heart, but after the trip with his family to the ski resort for the holidays, meeting the mysterious Billy, Steve had started to move on.

The warning bell rang for first period, and the team dispersed with promises of meeting up for free period to do some unofficial practice. Steve and Tommy walked towards Mrs. Byer’s classroom for homeroom.

They were in a deep discussion about strategy when they entered, and that’s what Steve blames for not seeing him first.

The mysterious stranger he had met at the ski lodge, Billy Hargrove, was here. At East High. In his homeroom.

Steve felt all of his thoughts screech to a halt as he stared at the blond curls and blue, blue eyes of a boy he never thought he’d see again.

A boy he had- Nope. That was a one time thing, and Billy probably didn’t even remember it, or him.

Steve was knocked out of the intimate memories of their New Year’s Eve kiss when Tommy threw a basketball at him and Steve hurried to sit at the only available desk, right in front of the teacher’s desk.

Mrs. Byers droned on about what she expected for the rest of the school year, and other random announcements that seemed to float in through one of Steve’s ears and out the other. He was too busy not looking at the boy two seats behind and a row over, staring intently the wall behind Mrs. Byers. For some reason, there was a massive clock taking up almost the entire wall, and he watched the minute hand tick by anxiously.

Does he talk to Billy?

No, that’s stupid. He just needs to ignore it.

The decision was taken out of Steve’s hands as the bell rang and he began packing up his books. Tommy slapped him on the back on his way out the door, headed to his second period science class.

“See ya at practice, Stevie,” he called out and then disappeared into the mass of students.

As Steve stood, he realized there was someone standing next to his desk. It was Billy.

“Well well well. Who knew we would meet again, Pretty Boy?” Billy chuckled. Steve looked around the classroom, relieved to find it empty of even Ms. Byers’ presences.

Still, he leaned in and whispered to Billy, in case anyone decided to wander in. “Listen. What happened at the ski lodge was a mistake. I’m not gay or whatever, it was just the New Years buzz or whatever. Adrenaline high or something. Point is, it’s best if we both pretend it never happened.” He watched as Billy’s cocky smirk disappeared, morphing into tightly controlled rage before a blank mask fell over his face.

“Sure, Pretty Boy. I think what we did definitely counted as gay, but keep lying to yourself or whatever. See ya around.” He purposely bumped Steve’s shoulder in anger as he stomped past towards the door, causing Steve to fall back and almost topple over.

Billy turned around as he crossed the doorway. “Learn to plant your feet,” he sneered and then disappeared just like Tommy.

Steve groaned as the warning bell rang, knowing that he would be late to his next class. At least it somewhat distracted him from the gnawing ache Billy’s dismissal left in his stomach.

Nancy is rough this morning—when she is too exhausted and distracted to reply to Troy’s observations with anything better than a ‘huh’, Troy knows it is time for some kind of intervention. Nancy needs help before she passes out face first in her dinner. It takes her a full minute to gather her thoughts, admitting that Frank Hardy is the source of her insomnia. Before Troy can do more than smirk, Nancy quickly defends herself against any accusation of romantic fondness for Frank. She is the only one who cannot see her crush on the other young detective, or at least she refuses to see it. The young detective is too exhausted right now for Tryo to needle her. He would only feel bad doing so, kind of like if he went and kicked Lance. Teasing Nancy will have to wait until she feels better.

“Okay, I’ll bite.” Troy takes another sip of his tea as Nancy suggests that he will be able to help her. “What non-romantic thing did Frank tell you that has you staying up all night? If it was romantic, I reckon insomnia makes sense, but non-romantic means it was probably something weird… or some crazy idea his brother dreamt up.” Between the Hardy Brothers, Frank is every bit the ‘older brother’, and takes his responsibilities seriously. Joe is more laid back about everything, and focuses more on having a good time, and flirting with girls’ then on some of his cases. Nancy and Joe both leave the worrying to Frank because he is so good at it. Taking another sip of tea, Troy grimaces and glances down at the sediment settling to the bottom of the cup. That is what he gets for buying cheap teabags, he supposes. He looks up at Nancy as she admits she wants to test out a theory, but is reluctant to go alone… likely because she can barely stand from sheer exhaustion. She certainly cannot drive in her current state. “Of course, he can’t just go through a solid stone wall!” Troy quickly affirms, maybe a touch too quickly as he does keep a slightly open mind to the paranormal. It used to drive Barnaby a bit crazy—hence he has learned it is best not to mention it more then he needs too. “But… how do you plan on trying to find hidden doors? You can barely see straight.” Though Troy is not going to admit to it too quickly, reluctant to give Nancy any kind of satisfaction in that department, he has to personally confess that he is interested in her case. The stakes are quite a bit lower than what he is used to dealing with—but helping with frightened tourists who have had their purses snatched is a nice change of pace from murders. As a DS he would have dismissed such a case as being a waste of his time, and passed it on to uniform if he could. As a mere legal assistant (really over glorified babysitter to the strawberry blonde in front of him) he will accept any task that might get him out of the office and back in the field for a few hours. Setting his cup of tea down on the counter, he gestures at Nancy. “First you got to eat. Hannah left breakfast for you before she went to the store. You explain Frank’s idea, and the theory you got for it while I find the plate she set up.” Hannah is like a mother to Nancy, fussing over her every chance that she gets. When she cannot fret in person, she always passes careful instructions onto Troy for what she wants done. While he cannot say he fulfills her requests with the same maternal vigor that Hannah puts into them, he is confident that he obeys the letter of Hannah’s orders at least, even if he cannot capture the spirit in them.

i love hearing what you have to say about season 4!! i promise it’s not too long lol, anyway i have a question for you: what do you think the next season holds for mike & el? i’m a little worried tbh

ahhh thank you !! same rules apply: spoilers ahead, so please read no further and blacklist/filter out the ‘s4′, ‘st4′, ‘spoilers’ tags if you don’t want to see anything !! 

i’m going to talk about them both as individuals and as a pair but first, i have to say that i don’t personally feel like you have to worry about them breaking up or anything again this season. i think s4 is really going to establish romantic jopper and once that happens, i don’t see them, mileven, or jancy not being endgame unless someone actually dies. which -- i’m not going to think about the possibility of anyone dying until i’m forced to confront it, so. this is fiction and it’s already unrealistic and i’m gonna take my ‘everyone survives, happiness all around, time to relax’ endings and go. anyway, i would love to add lumax to this list but i honestly think it could go either way depending on what happens in s4. that’s a different essay, though.

i tend to think that the most important dynamic on the show is the one between the whole group and i just don’t really see them spending much more time trying to develop romantic relationships outside of the ones set up since s1/2. maybe steve, robin, and will get love interests, maybe they decide to develop dustin and suzie more, maybe suzie is never even mentioned again, idk. but these will probably all be secondary -- as in less screen time, not less important than the main romances, but probably still less developed. unless it happens to be a new person added to the main cast. which, as of now, the only new mains are brett and priah who has gone from recurring to regular. so.  

i think s3 showed how messy and complicated romantic relationships (or, really just relationships in general) can be. everyone was arguing, there was miscommunication all around, everyone thought they knew what was best, no one was seeing eye to eye. but when it comes down to it, they would do anything for each other. they understand each other better than anyone else ever could. i can’t see them spending another season on breakups and romance drama after the ending of s3.  

mike and el have already been separated once before. this time, mike knows for sure that she’s alive and that’s she’s with the byers. this time, el won’t be kept completely isolated away from everyone else. they’ve made plans to meet for the holidays. they can still call and talk to each other as much as they want. i’m hoping they handle being separated this time better than they did in s2. i don’t want mike to be moping and i don’t want el to spend a lot of the season thinking about how much she misses him. in fact, i think in their case that some distance could be good for them. the same for jancy and jopper, too, honestly. it’ll be nice to see them existing outside of these relationships while still acknowledging how important they are.   

as far as i know, the byers and el stuff has not started filming yet so all there is to speculate on are rumors, the audition tapes, and logical guesses about where the story goes after s3. el obviously moves away with the byers. we still don’t know where. she’ll still be mourning hopper and trying to figure out life without her powers. and, of course, she’ll be in a long distance relationship with mike. i think she’ll be having a hard time and she’ll wish that mike was around, but she’ll realize she’s got a pretty good support system around her now with the byers, too. i’m very, very excited for more joyce and el content particularly, but there’s gotta be some great scenes with her and will and jonathan as well. 

there’s only one audition tape that i can confidently tie into the byers + el plot(s?) and it’s the queen bee/mean girl character ‘angela’. if we’re running with the whole ‘there may be some truth to the audition vids’ thing, then this one teases that el will be going to school and that angela will be bullying her. this is something she would probably want to talk about with mike (b i g troy s1 vibes) but i don’t know if she actually would ? so this is probably more a thing that el and will could bond over or that she could talk about with joyce or maybe jonathan. i do think there will be at least a few calls between the two of them before the action really hits and the whole group is (hopefully...) reunited.

so, el -- at least in the beginning of s4 -- will be going to school where ‘angela’ bullies her, forming a bond with joyce + will + jonathan and becoming part of the family, mourning hopper (+ hopefully having conversations about him + his past with joyce), missing her friends back in hawkins, continuing to learn how to navigate life without her powers, and trying to maintain a long distance relationship with mike. 

mike... i’ve been seeing some wild theories about him today but they aren’t really that far-fetched i think. first, going back to the audition tapes, the ‘eddie’ audition i saw makes it seem like mike is going to be part of the hellfire club with dustin. i’ve recently learned that there’s another version of the scene where ‘eddie’ is only talking to dustin and mike might not be a part of the club after all. if he isn’t part of the club, then the basketball v. hellfire, jocks v. nerds thing turns into lucas v. dustin and mike’s probably there just caught in the middle while max is off distancing herself from everyone.

at this point, i really want mike and max to become good friends. i think the end of s3 gave them the perfect opportunity. s4 max has s2 mike vibes. it’s not the same situation at all, but he knows kinda what she’s feeling and they could connect through that + the fact that they’ll both be missing el. i also just really want... some wheeler siblings content. i’m hopeful that s4 gives us good nancy and mike scenes bc there’s no reason not to give us good nancy and mike scenes (+holly!). however...

while there’s proof that gaten and sadie and natalia and priah have all been filming since production restarted, and while i have reason to believe that caleb has been filming a lot inside/at the studio recently... there’s no evidence that finn has been on set. there’s none for maya and joe, either, but people have said that finn isn’t even in atlanta right now. maybe he is and maybe he just hasn’t been seen and maybe he’ll pop back up tomorrow. or, maybe he already filmed whatever he needed to film for hawkins before production stopped.  

the wild theory that’s popped up today is that everything gets to be too much for him in hawkins and he just... hops on a train to go visit el + the byers. i don’t know if i buy it, but it is interesting to note that he was sitting with them at the table read. and since we can guess that steve and robin will still be working at the video store, robin and nancy will be investigating pennhurst together, lucas and max may have some angst, joyce and murray are probably teaming up for the finding/saving hopper plot, and el is going to bond with will and jonathan, it seems like the order might mean a little something. i’d even bet that dustin and erica have scenes with them bonding over d&d.    

now this theory pretty much only exists because no one’s seen finn on set and one of the paps posted some pics of some trains. there’s also always theories about how there will be issues at home with the wheeler fam and if that’s going to happen, what better time than in s4 when all of his friends are pulling away and el’s gone again. so if he is missing el (and will) that much, and if he has any reason to worry about her and how she’s doing, or if the party becoming distant and issues at home are weighing on him and he feels like he needs to get away, he’s absolutely the type to venture off on a train by himself. i don’t know how it would work since he’s definitely supposed to still be in school and his friends/nancy at least would notice he’s gone, but.. it’s fun to think about and we’ve got zero actual content to go off of right now.  

another way i could see mike’s plot going is that he’s the one trying to keep the party together this season. playing mediator with lucas and dustin, becoming better friends with max, being the connection between the hawkins plot and the byers plot (along with nancy). 

there was also talk of him joining the track team bc the track has been set up with hawkins high colors for filming. but mike ‘this isn’t a stupid sports game’ wheeler? i don’t think so... basically, no one knows at the moment what’s happening with mike wheeler in s4 lol.

s4 mike is just like s4 byers fam -- a complete mystery to me currently. i don’t personally think that he’ll be leaving school and hopping on a train to visit el. i think he’ll be a part of the hellfire club with dustin, or that he won’t and instead will be attempting to keep the party from completely disbanding. i hope that we get wheeler siblings scenes and that max and mike have a breakthrough and become better friends. i also feel like he’ll be having some complicated feelings about hopper, the last interaction they had, etc. and, again, the whole long distance thing with el. 

so... mike and el broke up in s3. it was messy. but then they reconciled. and then hopper “died”. s3 ended with them at this weird place where she’s heard him say that he loves her and she’s told him that she loves him back. things are a little awkward in the scene bc everything has changed at this point, but a kiss, an ‘i love you’, planning to meet up on the holidays, and promising to call frequently all sounds like they’re back together and going to try making the long distance thing work to me. 

i think they’ll be together when s4 starts. i think that we’ll probably only see them talking on the phone or their radios for the first few eps. maybe we’ll see flashbacks or something to them being together on the holidays. the distance might be hard and they’re definitely going to be missing each other. like... el doesn’t have mike or hopper with her now and i’m thinking the party is going to be drifting apart, plus they’re both probably going to have other personal issues that have nothing to do with each other or the party. maybe they’ll be experiencing some emotional distancing of their own while dealing with the aftermath of hopper’s “death”, the move, and whatever’s going on with them at home and at school. i think that once they reunite (probably not until the last half of the season), they’re likely to be stronger than ever. 

now, onto personal theories that have zero basis. for some reason, i can’t get it out of my head that this season might dive into psychological horror a little bit ? like a greatest fears type of thing ?? and i keep thinking about brenner popping back up and using the people el loves to get to her or something and 👀👀

Stranger Things characters + Hogwarts houses

[This is VERY long-you’ve been warned]

(I’m probably gonna end up making half of them hufflepuff)

Joyce Byers- Hufflepuff. She definitely has bravery that could put Gryffindors to shame, but overall, I believe that bravery is rooted in her loyalty to her sons.

Jim Hopper- He’s such a Slytherin. A pretty natural leader, but also a very independent person. He’s pretty resourceful (able to overpower armed men somehow, found a way to survive in the tunnels despite not knowing if anyone could save him). He’s one of those “if I want something done right, I have to do it myself” type people.

El- Gryffindor, but with some serious hufflepuff energy. She’s courageous in so many ways, none of which a 12 year old should have to be. She’s been abused her entire life, and when given the possibility of freedom, she sacrificed herself for the greater good. She went to Chicago on her own despite living in a...I don’t know, less than a 10 mile radius her entire life. (I have no concept of measurements) she walked into the place that tortured her, and saved the fucking world.

Mike Wheeler- Also a Gryffindor. The poor boy’s courage overpowers everything lmao. There were definitely other ways to avoid Troy and his friend if he had just thought about it but nooo, jumping off the cliff was the “best” option lol.

Will Byers- Ravenclaw. Definitely. He’s Will the Wise for starters. He figured out how to stay hidden in the upside down, AND found ways to contact his mom. It’s also made clear in season 1 that he values his education, given that his friends assumed he got to school early to study. Not to mention, he’s creative as hell.

Lucas Sinclair- I struggled the most with sorting him, but I think he’s a Slytherin. He keeps his priorities straight and thinks through situations well. When his friends strayed from the goal, he stayed on track.

Max Mayfield- I’d say she’s a Ravenclaw. She’s very mature for her age and she’s very logical. According to Lucas, she’s super smart. And she is without a doubt, very witty.

Dustin Henderson- Ravenclaw. He’s enthusiastic about learning, and honestly? Skipping class to be at the library—that’s a Ravenclaw move and what sold me on this decision. 10/10 most likely to become a scientist

Nancy Wheeler- I’d say she’s a Slytherin. She doesn’t tag along on another character’s story, she starts her arcs. She’s ambitious, a natural leader, and she will get what she wants by whatever means necessary. In season 1, she was down for murder and season 2, she went after the government and succeeded.

Jonathan Byers- Probably a Hufflepuff. He’s very loyal to Joyce, Will, and Nancy. He always tries to be there for anyone that needs him.

Steve Harrington- he’s a Gryffindor. He’s definitely got the courage, but he doesn’t think things through. Like a lot of gryffindors, he’s very reckless.

Billy Hargrove- also a hufflepuff. We don’t really know a lot about him. In my opinion, all of his toxic personality traits come from loyalty to his father.

Martin Brenner- Slytherin. I almost went with Ravenclaw because it takes a lot of intelligence to get away with what he’s been doing for that long, but overall, I think his ambition trumps that. He electroshocked a woman without second thought. And I don’t even know everything he’s done because I haven’t read Suspicious Minds.

Kali Prasad- it was close, but I think she’s a Hufflepuff. The Hufflepuff house values hard work, patience, justice, and loyalty. She is definitely hard working and dedicated to her cause. Patient: she’s been working for years to accomplish her goals. Justice: she’s doing what she believes is right and fair. Loyalty: she’s loyal to her gang. I’d even say they’re more family than friends. You have to 100% trust each other to do what they do.

Sam Owens- he has like no personality, but from what little we see, I’d say Hufflepuff. He’s pretty determined to get to the best possible outcome. When all of his coworkers decided Will wasn’t worth saving, he looked for a solution and he put his life at risk to help Bob get out of the lab.

Bob Newby- Ravenclaw, although he would be just fine as a hufflepuff. He’s extremely intelligent; he thinks puzzles are fun. He’s very passionate about technology and education, given that he helped develop the AV club.

Karen Wheeler- Also not much of a personality. You could say she’s patient and loyal, which are both Hufflepuff traits. She doesn’t fit any of the traits in the other houses in my opinion.

can we get some romantic elmax + going on a waffle date?

The answer is yes, anon! Thank you for the prompt!

(Three years after Season 2. We’ve got some established elmax, a little background byeler, some lumax friendship/past relationship, implied stoncy if you squint, and a Jennifer Hayes cameo. It’s all under the cut. I hope you like it!)

Here’s the problem: Max doesn’t really like breakfast. In all her seventeen years on the planet, she never has. There’s no reason for it, she just… doesn’t. That means pancakes, cereal, bacon (that one’s okay, it’s used in sandwiches and Max is definitively not a vegetarian), and, most offensively, waffles. Max doesn’t like waffles.

The Byers-Hopper family only is made aware of this one day, the summer before senior year, when Will offers Eggos to El and Max, who are on the couch in his family’s living room.

“Pass,” Max tells Will. “I’m not a huge breakfast fan.”

“But… they’re waffles,” El says, brow furrowing.

“I know,” Max replies confusedly. “I don’t really like them.”

“No,” El says decisively, and Max frowns at her.

“What?”

“I’m not going out with someone who doesn’t like waffles,” El tells her calmly.

Max snorts. “Yeah, you obviously are. I am someone who doesn’t like waffles. And unless I’ve been hallucinating the last five months, I’m dating you.”

“I can confidently say you weren’t hallucinating,” Will laughs as he walks past, the door to the fridge swinging closed. Then he frowns. “Unless we’re both hallucinating, which isn’t out of the question and wouldn’t be out of character for me.”

El laughs. “You’re not hallucinating. But, Max, no girlfriend of mine will dislike waffles, so we’re going to go out. Will, we’re not working tonight, right?”

He thinks for a minute. “No. That’s good timing, though, I’m inviting Mike over.”

“Who’s surprised?” Max mutters. “Not me.”

Will gives her a look. “Have fun,” he says before sweeping down the hall.

“El,” Max says once El’s brother’s door clicks shut, “you’re not really going to take me out for breakfast at night, are you?”

El grins, grabbing her by the collar and pressing a kiss to the corner of her mouth. “You know me. Am I the joking type?”

“No,” Max sighs, wrapping an arm around her. “No, you’re not.”

“Like… Lucas, I love her, but this is… not worth it,” Max complains, spinning in her desk chair.

Lucas grins at her, hanging upside-down off of her bed. “That’s a lie, it’s totally worth it. Never thought I’d see the day: MadMax Mayfield, bemoaning going out with a pretty girl.”

“Ha ha, Sinclair,” she rolls her eyes. “The problem’s not El and you know it. I just… don’t like breakfast and now I have to eat it on a date with her? Ugh.”

“Max, come on,” he says, trying to appeal to her reason. “It’s not a big deal. Just go out with your girlfriend, have a nice night, eat a waffle (just half if you need to), kiss her, and go home.”

She sighs dramatically. “But they don’t even taste good! Like, why is she so obsessed with them? It’s just… gooey wheat stuff cooked until it’s basically a deformed pancake. And I don’t even like pancakes!”

“Jesus, Max,” Lucas laughs. “You know, sometimes, I wonder, ‘huh, why did we break up? It was a good relationship. We both liked it. She was very open about her sexuality but that included boys and more specifically me, so we were all good. She was chill.’ Then you go bananas over a waffle date.”

“You forgot the part where I accidentally fell for the psychic girl,” Max snorts, flicking a pice of paper at his forehead, and he tries do dodge but he’s still upside-down so he just ends up sliding onto the ground in a heap.

“You’re an idiot, Sinclair.”

“So I’ve been told, Mayfield.”

Max greets El outside of the diner where El usually works. She’s not wearing her uniform, as promised, and instead has gone with jeans that probably are Will’s, sneakers that definitely used to belong to Nancy, a button up shirt that is undoubtedly Joyce’s, and the nice jacket Max bought her for her birthday last year. Her hair is straight, most likely through the virtue of the hair iron that is El and Mike’s joint property (and occasionally Dustin’s, if they’re all sleep-deprived enough), and brushes her shoulders.

Max suddenly feels a little self-conscious, hyper-aware of her own rumpled button-up, blue sweatshirt, and usual jeans and sneakers. Her wild hair blows into her face and she brushes it back. “You look nice,” she says nonchalantly, and her voice sounds foreign to her own ears for a moment because get it together, Mayfield!

“Thank you,” El replies promptly, smiling. “You do, too.”

“Sure,” Max laughs. “We’ll go with that.” She offers El and arm and they link their elbows together, walking into the diner. The girl acting as hostess for the night is unfamiliar and asks for a name, but there’s a plan for that.

“Actually,” El says, voice quiet beneath the music and the talking, “could we speak to Jennifer? Tell her Jane and Max are here.” The girl—her name tag reads Alice—looks confused, but nods and turns, disappearing into the back. She returns a moment later with Jennifer Hayes in tow, who’s already smiling brightly.

“Jane! Max! Hi!” she chirps, and El grins.

“Hey, Jen,” she says as Jennifer starts to lead them away from a perplexed Alice. “Thanks for the assist.”

“Not a problem,” Jennifer replies, winking at the both of them. “Just wasn’t expecting to see you here tonight, since it’s your day off.”

El laughs. “It turns out this weirdo right here doesn’t like waffles, and this is the best 24-hour breakfast place in town to change that.”

“Playing nice with the manager even on your day off,” Max grins at her. “Also, right, I’m the weirdo.”

“So, just a table for two? No Mike and Will tonight?” Jennifer asks, and El shakes her head.

“Yeah, table for two. My brother said they were going to be at our house. I’ll tell them you asked about them, though.”

They stop in front of a door, way in the back, and Jennifer smiles. “As lovely as this conversation is, I should probably just seat you guys and get back. Alice is a good worker but a handful when trying to follow instructions, and we’re still not sure if we can let her in on the secret. Have a nice date, Jane, Max.”

The “secret” being the door they’re in front of—the door behind which is a secret room in the diner for the couples who are… less than conventional, like El and Max or Mike and Will. Or those who aren’t quite couples at all, because according to Nancy, she, Jonathan, and Steve used to frequent the room together during her senior year of high school. Sure enough, Jennifer opens the door and there are a few couples in there—though Max does spot Jen’s girlfriend Katie in a corner booth, reading a book alone.

If there’s one thing the Q Room (they’d thought about calling it the Rainbow Room but it made El wince and was too on-the-nose anyway), as they call it, is good for other than secret dates, it’s the fact that you learn who to trust. They’d known about Jen earlier, because Will had become good friends with her a year after the Mind Flayer incident, but then she’d introduced them all to other kids—quite a few more than expected, considering the town.

Jennifer sits them down and doesn’t bother giving them menus, instead jotting down a quick waffle order on her notepad. Then she goes over to Katie, says something that makes her laugh, and sweeps out of the room.

There aren’t really uncomfortable silences between Max and El anymore—El doesn’t talk a lot unless engaged in conversation, so quiet is just something you have to get used to. That, and the tendency to make things float. So they drift in and out of short exchanges, Max rubbing absent circles over El’s knuckles on top of the table.

“I’m so glad this place exists,” Max says as Jack, another waiter, sets down two waffle plates. El raises an eyebrow, a little startled by the sudden change from talking about sea turtles, but nods to say that she’s listening. “You know,” she continues. “Just… a place where Troy or anyone won’t try to beat us up—not that he could, but still.”

Jack grimaces understandingly as he refills their water glasses but doesn’t interrupt, which Max appreciates. Once he’s gone, Max picks up her fork and knife and hesitantly cuts a piece of waffle.

El fixes her with a stare. “Yeah,” she smiles. “I know. I’m glad, too.”

Max beams at El, then, because this place is safe, and they’re girlfriends, and it’s just all so brilliant. And, not that Max will ever admit it, El’s smile even makes a waffle taste good.
