More info under the read more, since it gets a bit long!
Unwatermarked so you can crosspost to any site you wish, however, please give proper credit if you do repost.
Since I haven't seen any Stickmintober prompts (or if there are any I'm stupid and haven't really looked for them), so I decided to create a prompt list for myself (mostly because a while back I told someone I'd consider hosting this).
Anyway, as a small bonus, since I know it's difficult writing a small story for 31 whole days in a row (writing like that should be saved for NaNoWriMo), I thought I'd throw in a bonus writing prompt list as well! Feel free to get creative with the prompts or if you want, use the prompts from the top list.
I will be tracking the tag #stickmintober2023 for those who participate but you can also @ me if you want to see your pieces as well. I understand this is a bit short notice, I am angry w/ myself as well for taking this long to announce something like this (HELL there's prob a better prompt list on Twitter that peeps are prob preparing for that I'm not aware of) but either way, I hope you guys enjoy this little prompt list nonetheless.
That being said, this isn't a competition! Don't burn yourself out trying to chug out equivalents of the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper everyday, just try to keep it simple, esp if it's your first time! And as always, have fun with it too!
Thanks in advance for participating!
Prompts for Screenreaders:
First Image: Stickmintober 2023 Prompt List! Day 1: Breaking the Bank Day 2: Henry Stickmin Day 3: Police Force Day 4: Escaping the Prison Day 5: Rupert Price Day 6: Dave Panpa Day 7: Stealing the Diamond Day 8: CCC Day 9: West Mesa Day 10: Charles Calvin Day 11: Infiltrating the Airship Day 12: Reginald Copperbottom/RHM Day 13: General Galeforce Day 14: Favorite Past Toppat Leader Day 15: Toppat or Government? Day 16: Ellie Rose Day 17: Fleeing the Complex Day 18: Dmitri Petrov/Grigori Olyat Day 19: Dance Day 20: Glitch Day 21: Sven Svennson Day 22: Completing the Mission Day 23: Favorite Ending Day 24: Underrated Ending Day 25: AU (favorite or your own) Day 26: OC (favorite or your own) Day 27: Silly Day 28: Angst Day 29: Favorite BG character Day 30: Costume Day 31: Halloween
2nd Image: Stickmintober 2023 Writing Edition!
Week 1 (Oct 1st-7th) Write about Henry Stickmin. Whether it's a headcanon interpretation of his past or about his life before or after certain events in canon.
Week 2 (Oct 8th-Oct 14th) Write about Toppat life. Either from the point of view of a character, minor or main or before or after certain events in canon.
Week 3 (Oct 15th-21st) Write about your interpretation of the events after an ending from Completing the Mission. Whether it's an ending you don't think about much or your favorite
Week 4 (Oct 22nd-28th) Write about the hypothetical past of a Toppat Leader of your choice. Special challenge: No Terrence or Reginald ;)
Week 5 (Oct 29th-Nov 4th) Two this time! Write a Halloween-y themed story or just a write something involving your favorite ship, rarepair or otherwise.

Whumpmas in July 2024 day 1: Introduction
Here’s (almost) what I look like. Cred to Fotor for the filter.
Hey, all!
I’m Laur. He/him. I’ve always loved sickfics, both reading them and creating my own. I started off writing for OCs and several different fandoms, but eventually I’ve settled into working within the MCU. I have have ~ 10 different ‘verses ranging canon to AU, and many are focused on different individual characters.
Believe it or not, this is my 8th WIJ (or maybe I pre-date the event? I can’t remember.) Anyway, I’ve been posting fics here since 2017.
At the time I created this account, I training as a professional athlete and dabbling in bodybuilding (hence the name of this blog—the numbers are a random add-on to make the account unique.) I would cross train and swim for an hour every afternoon, then set up the laptop and pour my heart and soul into stories to post on Tumblr. I finally found my writing niche, and I’ve made some best friends for life in the whump/sickfic/emeto community.
My big claim to fame is my completion of the 2018 NaNoWriMo (My total word count was just over 90,000.) I filled the prompt for all 30 days of Novemetober, and I completed the draft of a novel with only 28 days of work. The book has since been published and is available on Amazon. (DM me if you want more info or a link to purchase.)
I used to be able to turn out fics and prompt fills every day, but in 2019 I had some huge health challenges that have slowed me down considerably. The deets aren’t so important, but here are some highlights: the onset of a mental illness, major organ failure, 10+ surgeries with general anesthesia, and three brain injoruous incidents. Now I mostly get around in a power wheelchair. Big change from a few years back.
These days, I have a lot of trouble concentrating, and I have a busy schedule, so my fic and art posts are now few and far between. I still love challenge events like WIJ. I know I won’t be able to answer the question/prompt for every day, but I do have ideas that I’m excited to share.

The Escape - Part 28
Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6 - Part 7 - Part 8 - Part 9 - Part 10 - Part 11 - Part 12 - Part 13 - Part 14 - Part 15 - Part 16 - Part 17 - Part 18 - Part 19 - Part 20 - Part 21 - Part 22 - Part 23 - Part 24 - Part 25 - Part 26 - Part 27
I am still not done with this story. All was written during Nanowrimo and is therefore not edited. I feel like Upton Sinclair just writing writing and writing non-stop. Not all of this is good, but I hope you all can find it a bit entertaining. ;)
The next morning when you wake up you find yourself still laying in Buggys bed, to cover your naked body you are comfortably tucked into his sheet, feeling warm and well rested. Buggy himself is not in the cabin, he probably had to get up earlier and didn't want to wake you up. You stretch and look outside the window, it looks like a beautiful morning, you can hear the seagulls over the open sea, the sun is lightening up your face and your arms resting on his pillow. How would you have loved to wake up next to him, but then you probably wouldn't have let him go for the rest of the day, being totally infatuated with him, wanting to be with him the whole time. Why did you had to fall for the captain? The time you both were able to spend together was probably limited to nights like last night.
You sigh, do not want to get up, but also do not want to make the crew suspicious.
You push the sheets away, grabbing your clothes from the floor and dress to leave the cabin. Buggy had no intentions to fold your clothes, but you wanted to show him that you cared and you made his bed, putting the pillow and the blanket into order.
As you now carefully open the door, peek out before leaving the cabin. You sincerely hope that no one would see you coming alone from Buggys room.
“Y/n!”, you hear a cheerful glee behind you, knowing immediately it was Mohji.
“Dammit!”, you whisper to yourself before turning around and trying to smile at him as good as you can in this embarrassing moment for you.
“Mohji, good morning!”
“Good morning. Are you searching for the Captain? He is not in his cabin!”
Relieved about this cluelessness you nod: “I realized that. Can you let me know where I can find him?”
“He went down to the kitchen, since he missed breakfast this morning I assumed he just got something for himself…”
“Thanks, Mohji!”, you quickly want to escape this slightly embarrassing moment before he can ask any more questions.
“Wait up, Y/n. You got something there…!” He stops you before you can walk towards the hatch, trying to enter the ship's belly. You are shocked and surprised as he carefully lifts his hand, asking “May I?”, and without waiting for your answer, gently rubbing over your cheek two times.
He then draws his hand back, you can see red clown makeup on his fingers. “Looked like you smeared something on your face…!”, he cuckles innocently and you are not sure if he realized what this was or not.
Without saying another word you turn around on your heel, making it quickly to the hatch, holding your face, in surprise and embarrassment. You quickly needed to find a mirror and check if there was not more proof of you and Buggy being intimate last night. “Damn clown.”, you utter to yourself as you climb down the hatch, reaching the hall leading to the kitchen, the bathroom and your own little room. To the bathroom first! you decide and quickly walk towards it without hesitation. Before you reach the little enclosed space the door to the kitchen swings open and Buggy steps out, all dressed with hat and coat, even his make up seems to be freshened up. He is holding a tray with food and immediately stops as he sees you.
“I was just on the way to you to bring you some late breakfast. You slept so long you missed it…” “So did you, no?”, you smile at him playfully as you inspect the tray. “Can you bring it to my room? I was just about to go to the bathroom..”, you add and he willingly nods. As you enter the bathroom you realize that you had just asked your captain for a favor and he had followed your command without hesitation. Had the tables finally turned after last night?
As you come back to your room Buggy is not there, but he has left you the breakfast as promised. While you eat you wonder how you got yourself into this situation and how you were able to be so honest with him last night. Even the former Snowland pirates which you stayed with for several months did not know about your past and you always managed to escape eventual marine attacks to hide your identity from the marines and your former fellow crew members. Having a bounty on your head makes you always distrust people. Most of them were just friendly to you to later inform the marines to pick you up and imprison you. You look out of the small window in your cabin while holding on to the piece of bread you were chewing on. Back in the days when the whole incident happened and the whole village was going after you, calling you a murderer and anarchist Luffy was the only one who had believed your innocence and who had stuck with you the whole time. This is why you had always hoped to meet Luffy again one day and join his pirate crew. He was the only one who would have defended your innocence and pride until the end.
But now this person was Buggy, Luffy's very opponent and a notorious pirate who was actually not someone who cared much about protecting anybody besides himself and his treasures. You had never thought when you left your village that you would one day end up here, not only as his crew mate but also as Buggys lover.
You sigh as you finish up the breakfast and decide to bring it back by yourself to the kitchen. You felt more safe and protected here than you ever felt before in your life, so maybe you should just get used to the thought of being with the Buggy pirates now.
As you open the door your gaze sticks again with the beautiful dress which has not been worn once yet. “Your time will come!”, you silently whisper, more to yourself than to the piece of fabric at your door. As you leave your room you immediately realize something is off. The silence in the hallway is suspicious. There are no sounds from pots and pans in the kitchen, there are not the usual sounds coming from the ships deck. You suddenly feel a movement behind you, like a shadow. As you try to quickly turn around you feel a sharp pain on your head, seeming to go through your very bones and you moan in pain before you feel the world falling into darkness in front of you.

my year in review
Spotify Wrapped is out, and I honestly don't know how much more I'll get done this year (I'm going to be busy IRL), so I suppose it's not too early for this!
i've found that doing the twelve-months-of-art meme chart thing doesn't accurately summarize my year anymore, because when I have an active project going that's all I do, and then there are no illustrations to show for those months, so the chart gives a disappointing impression that I just didn't do anything. so here's a list, instead:
Original work
Started and completed a 28-page chapter of a new(ish) webcomic For 2024: Chapter 2... hooray
Completed a sketchbook full of artwork with a scanned digital version This includes a completed Smaugust challenge For 2024: finishing another sketchbook, at some point, I hope; and probably at least one monthly art challenge
A rough NaNoWriMo draft of 50,000 words. Unfortunately, the story is not done (and I think maybe the whole first half of the draft needs to be cut, too), but I met my personal goal of actually using the pretty notebooks that were just sitting on my bookshelf all year, blank and unloved. For 2024: I have no idea if anything in this draft will see the light of day or if I will need to start over entirely. But it was good practice.
Going forward I would like to try out doing more video content, like process videos. I started dabbling with that this year but then took a long break from it because I had a technical issue that required hardware replacement and the re-setting of all my software.
Personal
I sent a goal to read 100 books this year, as of posting this I'm up to 103.
I finally played Beholder 2 instead of just looking at it sitting in my Steam library

it's t-minus 28 days until nanowrimo and i am trying to do this whole preptober thing but all i'm finding is that preptober is designed for people who have no idea what they want to write, and actually my problem is that i have too many ideas of what i want to write
#the ideas are all for the one story. it's a complicated story. it's a ROMANCE NOVEL which means it cannot fathomably be this complicated.#hence#preptober#nanowrimo 2023#skylark prive

Preptober 2023 - Snowflake Edition
Here in the Office we're going to be doing Preptober using the Snowflake method.
What is Preptober? During the month of October, people planning to do NaNoWriMo prepare for the month, getting their story and their lives ready to complete the challenge. The programme is actually 6 weeks long, so this room is going to be a little longer than a month.
What is NaNoWriMo? During the month of November, writers around the world attempt to write 50,000 words of a novel in one month - known as National Novel Writing Month.
What is the Snowflake Method? This is a fiction writing method where you follow 10 steps to get your novel ready to write. The steps all involve gradually expanding and branching your story (sort of like a snowflake). It is the brainchild of Randy Ingermanson.
I strongly recommend buying Ingermanson's book How to Write a Novel Using the Snowflake Method and reading along with it. Its a very engaging read. At first the unusual style in which it was written put me off a little, but after a while I realised I was actually hooked on the story he was telling too (following the journey of the book's protagonist quite closely, which I am guessing was the point). I often struggle to read 'examples' in fiction writing books and the way this book is written overcame that completely.
For this room, I will use the material Ingerman provides for free on his website. I will not add anything from the book, but I will suggest chapters to read if you are also reading.
How will this work? Throughout the 6 weeks of Preptober, I will post prompts to complete two things:
The steps of the Snowflake Method, spaced out according to their length.
The steps of the Preptober course outline from the NaNoWriMo website.
We’ll use the Snowflake Method to cover the first few weeks of Preptober. Because you move around between things like plot and character, we won’t be doing these in order. Below is the the full schedule of posts.
Week 1 (normally idea generation)
18 September: Step 1 (takes about 1 hour)
20 September: Step 2 (takes about 1 hour)
22 September: Step 3 (takes a few hours, depending how many characters you have)
Week 2 (normally characters)
25 September: Step 4 (takes a few hours)
28 September: Step 5 (takes a few days)
Week 3 (normally plot)
2 October: Step 6 (takes a week)
Week 4 (normally worldbuilding)
9 October: Step 7 (takes a week)
Week 5 (normally grow your writing community)
16 October: Step 8
Week 6 (normally find and manage your time)
23 October: Step 9
Step 10 is to write so that will start on 1 November. You can always skip over to Ingermanson's website and find the next steps if you need to arrange things on a different time scale.

Weekly Wrap-Up
July 22nd, 2024 - July 28, 2024
🌸 This week has been pretty great overall. Let's review what I managed to get done:
Two visits to my parents. One for the car, one for the garage sale.
Submitted 5 scholarship essays
Deposited 5 checks that have been sitting around
Cleaned out my car/fridge. They're very neat now
Went grocery shopping instead of procrastinating it
Ordered two new chargers. One for my office, one for home
Fixed up a chapter of the book I'm writing for NaNoWriMo and posted it in the writing group for folks to workshop today
Researched 10 different programs for my conference presentation
Sent in the BOD application. Even though it was auto-rejected (due to number of applicants) I still finally sent it in
Did my nails for the new job, then took them off (didn't like them)
🏫 School is rapidly approaching. Mid-to-late August. I wanted to apply to 100 scholarships before school starts, but at this rate, it'll be more like 50. I still have around 3 weeks left so... guess we'll see. Gonna increase the rate I work at.
🎧 My pink headphones I've had since... it has to be since 2020 finally gave up the ghost. They underwent some heavy daily use, and spent a short stint of time in a garage when I was between houses, so I'm honestly shocked they lasted 4 years. I just went to lay down while I was wearing them a few days ago, something went CRACK in the left ear, and since then it was a right-ear-only headphone 🤡 Thankfully I had brand-new extras in my closet I ordered because I thought these broke previously but hadn't-- the cord was just loose-- and so I wasn't bothered in the least. Awesome.
🎤 Nervous for the upcoming conference in... a week and a half. I know I'm prepared to write my piece of the deliverables (the powerpoint, the presentation) but I'm not convinced my co-presenters are. Tomorrow, I need to ask them more directly if they're able to answer several questions pertaining to our topic-- because that's what we need to put in the slides. They only have like 3 days left to research enough to rectify that if they aren't. And I understand some people operate on a last-minute based work schedule, but I'm not. It's important we get this DONE.
💼 Work for the upcoming week should be smooth enough. Still settling into my new role and trying to figure out what would be best to change/adapt for the program. I need to brainstorm some more while I'm at work and figure all that out.
Good things ahead, I know it!
[Photos: heart-shaped lipstick I got from a mystery box, unidentified flowers from my family's garden, new pink headphones, bullet journal entry, postcards on my wall (detail), postcards on my wall with ivy.]

Other Months
You know, I was sort of hoping that by now, there would be some sort of course correction from Nanowrimo. I mean, the backlash seems pretty substantial. I keep looking for updates on the situation, and I keep expecting Nano to issue some weak apology, or at least acknowledge the outcry. But instead, I just find news articles about the backlash, or sponsors pulling out because they can see which way the wind is blowing.
And I'm not entirely surprised, but I guess I thought the people running that organization were a little more savvy than this. Then again, all these pro-AI types only seem to know how to double-down, so I guess Nanowrimo has already demonstrated the depths of their incompetence. If they were smart enough try to clean up this mess they never would have issued that statement in the first place.
So I probably gave them too much credit, but... I mean, what other reaction could they have expected? Their whole deal depends on large numbers of human writers coming together to do this challenge every year. By refusing to condemn AI, they basically said that the efforts of the human writers are extraneous, when it's very much the other way around. The Nanowrimo organization thinks it's too big to fail, but without the writers' participation, they're nothing. Even if their sponsors are paying big bucks for AI promotion, it won't do any good if there's no one around to sell the products to. This seems blindingly obvious, but apparently Nanowrimo can't figure it out.
Anyway, enough about them. I'm planning to proceed on schedule from November 1-30, but I started thinking about what to do in the future. The rest of the world may settle on some agreed-upon "official month" to do the 50k challenge, but I'm more interested in picking something that works best for me. I'll run through some options under the cut.
NOVEMBER
Pro: Traditional. I'm familiar with this thrity-day span, so why rock the boat?
Con: The Thanksgiving four-day weekend is a pain in the ass to plan around. Also my mom's birthday is in November, and I usually drive to her place and take her out to lunch, so that's another day where I schedule minimal writing. Oh, and AEW runs the Full Gear PPV, and the NJPW World Tag League starts up in November, so it's actually kind of busy. My normal strategy is to try to get as big a lead as possible in the first week in order to finish well before all this other stuff can slow me down.
DECEMBER
Pro: None. This would suck.
Con: This would just be a harder version of November, since Christmas always falls on a different day of the week.
JANUARY/FEBRUARY
Pro: There's not much happening in these months, and I usually schedule some days off from work here just so I might miss a few lousy commutes in cold weather. February's only 28 days, but I've finished so many past 50k challenges early that it probably doesn't matter anymore.
Con: I've tried to do "Janwum" challenges in the past, but it's tough to get into gear so soon after completing one in November. I kind of had this vision of doing four writing months every year, but the non-November ones were always tough. Maybe January 2026 would be better if I didn't do any writing for November 2025. So that would push me towards...
MARCH-SEPTEMBER
Pro: I dunno.
Con: I feel like a lot of stuff happens during these months, which makes it difficult to make solid plans. Then again, this is probably just because I've devoted so much planning to making sure Novembers are as clear as I can make them.
OCTOBER
Pro: It's like November, but sooner. Fewer holidays, wrestling shows, and so forth.
Con: That's when OC-tober happens, and I really would like to keep doing that in October if I can. True, I've only done the challenge once in 2021, but I want to get back to it, so I need to start re-evaluating my priorities.
OCTOBER 20-NOVEMBER 18
Pro: This would mostly eliminate my problems with November. I always get a little anxious to start in the last week of October, so maybe I should just go ahead and start early.
Con: Well, the OC-tober stuff would still be a conflict, if nothing else.
I'm not sure I've come to any strong conclusions here, except that I might want to do these in January, but I need to schedule 2025's challenge for the middle of the year. Like... June-ish? Well, that would get it out of the way in time for the G1 Climax. Huh.
