Thank you for your last answer to my question about your writing, that was really helpful and interesting! I have another question, I really like how you wrote NYADA in your fic “With Every Broken Bone”. I always wished they had done better with it in canon. Why do you think Kurt thrived at NYADA, but Blaine didn’t? I’m glad too you made reference to Blaine having some friends there, as I always assumed he would at least have some acquaintances.
Nonny, thank you so much for coming to chat with me! I don't get a lot of convos about my writing, so I appreciate it anytime anyone comes to talk about it! <3 <3
And, ooff, I mean, I had to make NYADA make sense. Because, man, that school -- I mean, I went to a university where I was part of the school of music, and nothing NYADA did made ANY sense.
First of all, I do not understand a school where Elliott and Jesse are rejected and Brody and those Sycophants were let in. How can Kurt bare his soul in an audition and not get in while Rachel has to stalk her way in after utterly failing? Why is the Dean of the school personally grading freshman assignments? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!
I don't think Kurt particularly thrived at NYADA -- because other than the midnight madness thing, what did they even show him doing there? Not really anything. Meanwhile, I don't think Blaine didn't thrive professionally. He was an emotional mess who couldn't keep up with the entirety of his life. He downward spiraled out of college (as lots of people do). And despite me hating NYADA, I don't blame the college for Blaine's personal issues.
And, I mean, yeah, one of the problems with NYADA is that it was such a side plot that the show didn't want to develop that there wasn't really any time given to world building. I think Blaine is a very personable guy, who probably natural has more friends and is (said lovingly) better liked than Kurt just by his own nature. So it doesn't make sense for him NOT to have friends at NYADA. He's the one for whom it's easier to make friends, so I just had to include that.
That's my two cents <3
#thanks for the question!#that's how s.o. sees it#klaine#kurt hummel#blaine anderson#that stupid witch school nyada#i'm so glad blaine got out of there and went to the far superior nyu

I think what disappoints me in the way they wrote Blaine is they set him up to be a leader, popular, more self assured in season 2. They stripped that of him in 3 because Finn had to still be ND leader, and turned Blaine into a weaker, less capable character. In 4, when it became apparent there were issues with Cory, they started to build Blaine up again as leader of ND, with the great Blam moments too, and into section 5 with Blamtina.
But then when he moves to NY he had to become the weaker of Klaine, no disrespect meant to Kurt or Chris: but he had to become support again to Kurt , and appear the blubbering mess during this arc.
Even in 6, he wasn’t allowed to be strong, they paired him with Dave, not allowing him time to grow for himself. And by the time he’s married, it’s Kurt making the decisions again and speaking for him. (Think of how we found out about NYU).
That’s just my take.
Oooh, interesting!
This got pretty long again, so. And also please take note that there are some largely speculative parts below the cut.
Well, I definitely agree that in S3, Blaine is more... whiny, imo. I think this is the time to mention that I do think Blaine being younger than Kurt is definitely a retcon, one that just does not make a lot of sense with the previously established canon, imo. For more black and white examples, there is the NBK script clearly saying Blaine is a Junior and he is called a 'Junior member' of the Warblers in Silly Love Songs.
(source)
But I also think that with episodes like Sexy and BIOTA, Blaine being at the very least the same age as Kurt simply makes more sense for their dynamic as mentor and mentoree that the writers were clearly aiming for before Blaine became a viable romantic interest for Kurt.
I think Glee always struggled with balancing what the writers wanted to see (lot of Will, Finn and Rachel centric storylines, close to nonsensical relationship drama and satire) and what the dedicated fanbase did. When I watch certain episodes or plot lines I can almost picture the kind of social media posts that inadvartently inspired the writers to try and course correct something established previously or in other cases, lampshade their bad writing. Just so messy lol.
I believe Blaine was made younger because by S3, the NY spin off was already something they thought they might do. And as it stood, plenty of their most popular characters became a ticking time bomb to leave the main show and Blaine was a regrettable casualty in my eyes - sure the episodes before made a little less sense in light of him having been younger than Kurt all along, but it is certainly not out of the realm of possibilities for someone younger than you being a mentor figure, and they could not write out every single popular character off the main show because they did not want Glee itself to end yet either.
I've always beefed with the WSS storyline because I think it would've been far more interesting to use it as a way to start breadcrumbing the communication issues Klaine would end up facing later. I think Blaine is a rather simple guy who does not necessarily dwell on his emotions and is late to pick up on them himself. Meanwhile Kurt is crazy emotionally perceptive and good at identifying his own emotions - he just refuses to open up about them and since he is so quick to pick up on how others feel, he believes other people should be able to do that for him too. But Blaine is very much like Burt, but without the years of experience in speaking Kurt's language - he needs Kurt to tell him himself.
I think ideally, in a world where S2 Blaine was more of a blueprint to his character later on, Blaine would've turned down the role of Tony more firmly and I would've wanted Kurt to be the one convincing him to take the role when he gives him his roses, since he was growing very insecure about his ability to ever play straight. I think it could've been a very interesting emotional miscommunication, where Blaine does not realize there is an underlying insecurity and self-deprication to Kurt's support and it would be another one of Kurt's "why isn't he noticing it, does he just not care" moments.
Stuff like that is why I wish the writers had been more purposeful with Klaine and their direction, there are so many missed opportunities like that.
I agree I would've wanted to see him butt heads with Finn far more often, but I did not mind them making up before sectionals. I'm inclined to give some leeway here since Blaine has his meltdown eventually so I don't feel like I am filling in the blanks too liberally lol. And I like the thought of Blaine's need to be part of a team winning out and dimming his own leadership skills in response.
I agree that in S4 Blaine is very much becoming essentially the male lead of the show. Though I will say that I personally have felt that when it was not Kurt related, he felt very juvenile to me LOL?! I can't word this aptly, it is really just a vague feeling I get when seeing him outside the context of Kurt.
As for NY!Blaine... I really like him, personally. I think because I am just a fan of Blaine being messy and having his asshole tendencies in general, I really like episodes like Tested, even if I spend a majority of it cringing at Kurt and Blaine respectively. I think Blaine being such a one track minded and obsessive person is a huge charm point to me and I love messy Klaine. In the landscape of Blaine discourse, I am a yandere Blaine centrist. YES, he did and said fucked up things, but he did it out of love and obsession so he is forgiven.
As for S6 - Blainofsky may be my only other Blaine ship aside from Klaine that I like, actually. Because the thought of them having a relationship that is essentially just you, your boyfriend and the collective hallucination of the guy you were both obsessed with as teenagers is so entertaining to me.
I think at the end of the day what I like the most about Kurt and Blaine is that they're actually not that compatible with each other, but because they are so stubborn and actively choose each other as their own soul mate they are willing to put in a stupid amount of work.
(Also I am once again too Kurt minded unfortunately, because if anything, I felt like Kurt was far less allowed to be his own person S4+, with the Hummelberry of it all. So I apologize in advance if I come off too contrarian or something, it is really not my intention.)
#ask#and thank u for sharing your take with me <3#i did find it interesting since i usually move much more on the kurt side of things!

———
Oh.
In that moment, something shifts.
Nothing has outwardly changed. Blaine still has his lower back flush against his bedroom wall, loafers pressing into carpet to support the weight he carries in his chest. Kurt stays standing in his dampened dress shirt, his fingers fiddling absentmindedly with the drying, wrinkled hemline. Kurt’s coffee is cooling somewhere to the right, and a quick exit still beckons to Blaine’s left.
Everything’s the same, and yet, Blaine feels fundamentally different. His body relaxes. His arms fall limp at his side. His legs unlock and melt into the carpet. The oppressive panic subsides. Breathing becomes easy. Keeping himself steady turns intuitive.
Every day is a series of decisions. Blaine exists because of his past, all the prior choices that were risk-averse and circumvented his problems and their potential solutions.
It was Blaine’s choice to go to NYU, but after touring the campus and falling in love with their theater program, the decision was practically made for him. Kurt’s class was the only one that filled in a gap in his schedule, and Kurt was the only TA. Blaine had let himself wallow, besotted, and had surrendered to admire Kurt from afar. Distance protected Blaine from heartbreak, sure, but it also did nothing to pacify Blaine’s yearning. Terrified of rejection at the end of last semester, Blaine did nothing- He did the easy thing and let Kurt go. It only made him fall faster and harder this morning, and, playing it safe, pretending to not remember Kurt, only magnified his desperation to know Kurt more intimately.
Blaine had resigned himself to be a bystander of his own life, and all it did was hurt the one person Blaine would give anything to love.
Kurt’s everything Blaine’s looking for, but, like Blaine, he’s also a young-adult finding his place in the world and looking for love.
Blaine’s remains terrified, but now, it’s a fear of inaction rather than inadequacy.
He’s done not knowing.
“I really like you, Kurt,” Blaine admits. His pulse continues to quicken, but adrenaline sedates his mind and allows him to continue. “I want to be more than some underclassmen who you TA’d for. I’ve wanted to ask you out since August.”
Blaine rests his head against the wall, and he closes his eyes. “I know I’ve been a mess all day,” he says as his voice shakes, “and I shouldn’t have lied to you, but I didn’t think I’d see you again. I thought today was my one chance to win you over.” He laughs pitifully. “But, it’s not going well. I think I’ve made every wrong decision.”
Blaine opens his eyes to find Kurt shaking his head. A strong hand connects to Blaine’s shoulder, and Kurt’s thumb rubs into Blaine’s collar, over woven fabric that does nothing to protect Blaine from how the touch sets him alight. “I wouldn’t say that,” Kurt says, smiling, eyes going glassy and voice thickening. “I think you are doing just fine.”
Overwhelmed with feeling, Blaine has no reservations blurting, raspy, “I really want to kiss you right now.”
Kurt doesn’t waver. His lips part, and his voice, light and gasping, whispers, “You should kiss me then.”
“Okay.” Blaine leans. “Yeah. Okay,” he breathes and falls forward.
Kurt guides Blaine with his hand on his shoulder as their lips connect, and Blaine’s eyes flutter closed. His right hand uncovers home where damp fabric pulls away from tacky skin, and, in, Blaine’s left, cotton threads through his fingers and wrinkles.
Kurt’s everywhere. He’s on Blaine’s skin and in his lungs, and Blaine loses where he ends and Kurt begins.
It’s not a terrible thing to lose.
When they break apart, Blaine’s still in the moment, eyelids heavy. “You taste like coffee,” he mumbles. It’s the only quantifiable thing he can process about the kiss, his nose resting against Kurt’s cheek, his fingers tightening against Kurt’s shirt, urging him closer.
“Huh.” Kurt tugs Blaine by the dimples of his back, his smile tickling Blaine’s puffed lips. “That’s weird. Are you sure?”
Blaine hums as his brain puddles and offers, voice gravely, “I can check again?”
“Okay,” Kurt chuckles. His breath is sweet on Blaine’s face, and Blaine never wants to be anywhere else. “You do that.”
Blaine laughs and doublechecks.
Over and over again.

Day eight: primary
Ao3
The day quickly gets away from Kurt. As it so often does. It’s like once it starts getting dark at 5 o'clock, his whole day ends when the sun goes down. Kurt just wants to crawl into bed after dinner because it feels like midnight outside.
But he can’t just go to sleep at 7pm either. Sure, he’s exhausted from the day—he finally wrote that article he’d been avoiding for two days—but he was finally able to shift his primary focus from writing to cyberstalking.
“Listen, Charlie is so good at this stuff,” Rachel says from the kitchen.
It’s her night to wash dishes.
“You only know his name is Blaine?” Charlie clarifies, “that’s not a lot to go on.”
“I know,” Kurt sighed.
“Whose party was it?”
“The whole dorm I think. I don’t remember meeting that many people. I didn’t get names.”
“Curly black hair, slightly tanned skin, and Blaine. And he possibly goes to NYU.”
“And he works at Rob’s Food Mart!” Rachel shouts.
“The shop down the block?” Charlie asks.
“Yeah, that’s where I first saw him.”
Charlie sits back on the couch and sips his cup of tea. “Why don’t you just go back to the grocer?”
The water stops running in the kitchen.
“Kurt! We are so dumb!”
Kurt goes red.
“Isn’t it weird to flirt at someone’s job?” He asks.
“Not if he wants you to be flirting,” Charlie assures him.
Rachel joins her boyfriend on the couch. Instantly curling into his side.
“You should go,” she says, winking.
“What if he’s not working?”
“Get some chocolate. I’m craving something sweet.”
“I’m not enough?” Charlie flirts.
Rachel kisses him.
“Okay, you two are gross, I’m leaving.”
Kurt bundles up and grabs his wallet and keys. The walk to the food mart is cold and windy. His pace gets quicker the closer he gets. Not that he’s excited at the prospect of seeing Blaine again or anything. It’s just Rachel’s got him craving something sweet too.

Ever After (7/21)
AO3 | S&C

CHALLENGE
Kurt and Blaine aren’t completely left to their own devices. No, they are traveling in a carriage with a couple of soldiers. The carriage is very plain and the soldiers are also dressed as ranchers and farmer to avoid suspicion.
They’re going east, through the woods. That’s where Kurt was found. Kurt spoke about an evil liar and they want to find it. There may be some clues here. There are no other leads that they can follow.
Blaine says goodbye to his parents and sends some birds to his friends, telling them that is out of Castle Town for an unforeseeable time.
The trip starts very uneventful. Kurt and Blaine are sat next together in the carriage and wait. Maybe Blaine should’ve brought something to read after all.
It’s Kurt who speaks first.
“Tell me about yourself,” Kurt says.
Blaine raises an eyebrow.
“Didn’t you already read all about me in your books?” he asks, although admitting that that’s a possibility makes Blaine uneasy. But if The Cooper Chronicles are real, then Kurt should know about Blaine. He knows the Pink Dagger’s name, after all, so Blaine’s existence shouldn’t be as shocking.
“You were born between the first two books,” Kurt says back, “After the king remarried. You were seven when the series ended and you were barely in it because you were at home at the Castle. Let’s just say that B.D. Dalton didn’t spend too much time on you.”
That stings a bit. Blaine knows he’s fine with being in Cooper’s shadow, but Kurt calling him almost insignificant is rude.
“My name is Blaine, as you know. I am twenty years old. I like alchemy and reading and watching Zooms with my friends. Uh. I don’t know what else there is to say.”
When Blaine puts it plainly like that, he does sound boring and insignificant.
Oh God, is Blaine insignificant because he was written that way? He’s never done anything interesting in his life. He just exists, doing mundane things! Is this all he’s ever meant to be?
Blaine pushes that thought away. He still as no reason to believe he was created by some man for a fictional book series.
But now this is gnawing at him.
“What is your Passion?” Kurt asks, “Everyone in Daltonia has one.”
“I am still figuring that out,” Blaine says earnestly. Then he has an idea. “What would your Passion be, if you were a Daltonian?”
“Tailoring,” Kurt answers immediately, “Like Silva.”
“How- Never mind.”
Blaine wants to ask how Kurt knows Silva’s name, since many do not know the royal tailor’s name, but Kurt would answer with The Cooper Chronicles.
“Are you a tailor in your world?” Blaine asks.
“Sort of. I am a fashion student at NYU,” Kurt answers and it once again means nothing to Blaine.
Kurt must’ve realised, so he starts explaining how education works in the kingdom of New York. (Or New kingdom of York? Blaine’s not sure.)
They chat about small things, both hovering around what is really going on, but it is also nice to talk to Kurt about stuff like his degree, his roommates, Blaine’s potions, Blaine’s friends, and what not.
Their little moment definitely get interrupted when the carriage starts shaking. It’s a challenge to hold on to anything and they can hear screaming from the outside. Blaine’s soldiers are in danger.
Blaine forces the door open, but it immediately gets slammed shut.
“Stay inside!” one of the soldiers order.
Kurt and Blaine hold on to each other as they hear a battle commence. Soldiers cry out, horses are neighing. The carriage is going full speed with Kurt and Blaine inside.
Until it comes to an abrupt halt.
Kurt and Blaine are sitting in silence. Blaine can feel his heart beating uncontrollably.
They wait for more orders, or any other sign, but it doesn’t come.
“I… I think… we need to go out,” Kurt suggests, although he sounds unsure.
Blaine nods.
Slowly they get out of the carriage and to their absolute shock, they’re alone. No soldiers. No horses. Kurt jumps out of the carriage to inspect.
“There’s… food. All our stuff is still here.”
“What happened?” Blaine asks, looking around for his men. He’s heard cries. They’re in pain, and Blaine has healing potions, but there’s no one in sight.
“I don’t know,” Kurt sounds stumped, “But we can continue our journey.”
“You want to continue?” Blaine asks, aghast. Blaine wants to go home immediately and see if everyone’s safe.
“Blaine. I have a bad feeling.”
“Same. Which is why we must go home.”
Kurt shakes his head.
“No. I mean. Isn’t it strange that we are unscathed, and our stuff is intact. It’s as if someone’s trying to separate us from your staff.”
“Which is not good!”
“I know,” Kurt holds up his hands. He sees that Blaine is stressed. “But I think that if we return, they will try to separate us again and again. Someone needs us.”
“You just want to go home!” Blaine argues, “But I need to check on my people! I am a Royal!”
“Okay,” Kurt relents, “But I will go on.”
And that renders Blaine speechless. He cannot let Kurt go on his own.
So he gives in. He helps Kurt pack their supplies and together they make their way deeper into the woods.
--
“Blaine! Look!”
Kurt’s pointing at something in the distance. They’ve been walking aimlessly throughout the woods, but it may have paid off.
“I think that’s the liar where they kept me.”
It does look like a stereotypically evil liar. It also looks extremely deserted.
Blaine has no combat training. He only has his Royal magic. He needs to be cautious, but Kurt immediately runs in.
“What in the world…” Blaine mutters. Kurt really is going into everything head-first.
They scope out the liar and it is indeed empty. Kurt is uneasy.
“This. This is it. This is definitely where they…”
“Hurt you?”
Kurt nods and he looks pained.
“You mentioned experiments, right?”
But Kurt walks away to explore more, without answering. Blaine gets it. Kurt must’ve experienced something that is difficult to think about, and the thought of that alone already makes Blaine shudder.
Blaine follows Kurt to the dungeons, where the cells are.
“Something is not right.”
“No kidding,” Blaine answers. A stereotypically evil looking liar in the woods? No one knew about this!
“No, I mean… Look!”
Kurt points towards the locks. They’re heavy.
“What is it?”
“I told you a guard left the door unlocked. But this place is so creepy, and vast. I… think they let me out by choice.”
“A good guard?” Blaine wonders.
But Kurt shakes his head.
“What if they wanted me to leave? What if they needed to see something.”
The two walk silently across the room. All cells are empty.
Except one.
On the floor lies a book with a colourful cover. A painting of a young, smiling boy, and three other kids is printed on it. The words ‘The Cooper Chronicles: The Seed of Time’ are written on above the picture, in a big, golden font.
“It’s the first book of The Cooper Chronicles,” Kurt says.
Oh, what did Blaine get himself into?

Mike Change follows his friends to NYC for university-NYU Pre-Med with a shit ton of dance classes because his parents never said anything about a minor in the arts, only that he was expected to go to med school.
He has a solid support system in his glee friends but doesn’t mind branching out and is kinda excited to not be in Lima and to lean into who he is-he starts wearing the clothes he’s always wanted to wear, ones he bought on a secret shopping spree with Kurt on a summer steal away trip to Colombus their last spring break at home.
He lets Blaine talk him into a helix piercing when Blaine gets an earring and he loves having a family in New York.
A bunch of his dance class mates comment on it when he starts eating lunch with them. He feels a weird twinge in his chest when he notices half the compliments come from his fellow male dancers and realizes he doesn’t mind their attention.
But he also starts hanging out with an international students exchange club and meets Raphael and Ragnor and Catarina. He loves his glee friends but he’s starting to feel seen as his own person. Something that had been impossible in Lima and in HS.
He starts a study group with the beautiful Izzy in his Biology and Chem classes and becomes fast friends with her. He lets her do his make up and finds a thrilling sort of inner peace when he sees himself in eyeliner. She gushes and complains that her big brother would never let her do this.
He meets said big brother-a pre law giant of man (seriously taller than Finn!)- who glares at everything that’s not his sister, but smiles at Mike when he asks about the man’s archery medals. (Who the fuck is on an Olympic team and Doesn’t brag about it?!) Mikes chest twinges again and he tells himself it’s because Alec is the type of guy friend he’s always wanted.
He wakes himself up one Friday morning, sheets a damp mess with hazy memories of his dream but possibly Alec’s name on his lips. He shakes himself out of it and lets a pretty blonde ballerina from class push him into an empty bedroom at the party he attends that night.
He spends the next few weeks with all the various girls he dances with.
He spends an equal amount of Wednesday’s studying with Alec at a coffee shop-But! They both have that time free and they both like coffee and Mike’s never really made his own friends, they always adopt him, not the other way around! So that’s why he’s always so excited to see Alec.
It’s getting harder to lie to himself when the bottle he spins at the next party he’s at lands on a ginger ROTC guy named George. They make out to the cheers of the other partiers and Mike spends the night drunkenly telling himself that kissing is just an enjoyable thing. He spends the next morning soberly googling if a kiss makes you gay.
A couple more weeks, a couple more weekends spent with the dance girls, until Rachel and Kurt throw a NYADA midterms party and he only had a half a beer but let’s Kurt’s friend Imasu blow him in the bathroom. He tries to talk it away like the kiss-it feels good no matter who it is-until he’s on his knees reciprocating and finds he likes it as much as any other part of sex.
He skips that Wednesday with Alec and can’t explain why the “Hope you’re okay” text makes him ache when he ignores it.
He shuts down on himself, only hangs out with his known friends and throws himself into a short lived relationship with the blonde ballerina to try and keep himself “on track” when he walks in on her and their teacher. He wasn’t in love with her, but it does hurt and he definitely doesn’t want to be involved with whatever shit is going to hit the fan when the administration finds out about her.
He spends Halloween half drunk, crying and spilling all of this to Kurt and Blaine. They sit with him, cuddle him, drink with him. And they’re there with him when he finally says out loud that he’s Bisexual. They celebrate at 4 am with pancakes at the local all night diner.
He rejoins study group and explains himself to an icy Izzy who thaws and sends him a blinding smile and wraps him in a big hug.
Ragnor didn’t know that he didn’t know that he was bi but bucks him on the shoulder in solidarity. Cat hugs him and welcomes him back. Raphael tells him he doesn’t care as long as he doesn’t have to see any sappy shit.
On Wednesday he gets to their table early and buys Alec his stupid sweet caramel latte as an apology. He awkwardly stutters out an explanation and even more awkwardly comes out to the then man who is watching him with wide owlish eyes. Alec grins at him when he’s done and quietly comes out to Mike himself and if his whole being light up on the inside, then that’s Mike business alone.
He goes home at Thanksgiving and comes out to his family. He sister hugs him. His mom smiles kindly at him, but his father yells in a tone Mike’s never heard before. It’s ugly, it’s horribly painful and Mikes ready to get up and leave after his father vows to cut him off when his mother stands up for him. He leaves Lima with a hug from his mom and sister but totally disowned by his dad.
His mom’s parents step up to cover his expenses and tell him they don’t care who he loves and long as he’s successful and happy-San Francisco is good for them. He’ll keep his pre-med for now-he likes the idea of providing healthcare to those in need, but declare dance a double major to keep his options totally open.
He goes back to NYU and his friends and they mourn with him and rage with him and are there on his birthday when he moves to change his name in court so he doesn’t have to be tied to a man who hates him. (if his father wanted resort to Latin for insulting him, then he’s going to own that)
At the new year’s party he throws celebrating his new name and identity-he introduces himself as Magnus Bane and is greeted with an eager Alec grabbing him by the lapels of his jacket and kissing him In front of the whole party.
He walks into the new year a new man with an extended family he wouldn’t trade for anything and love he never saw coming.

Remote Learning
heyyy i finished my fic for @the-lima-bean's Back to School Challenge! hope it's not completely terrible <3
Summary:
Kurt and Blaine are NYU Tisch Drama professors. They’re also married with two kids. They usually don’t tell students that part, for the sake of keeping some of their personal life private. But when there’s a blizzard that snows everyone in at home for a few days and classes temporarily move online, sometimes there’s no choice but to reveal some pieces of their lives.
Kurt comes home Monday evening windswept and brushing snow off himself and informs his husband that "It is not looking too pretty out there." Blaine greets him with a soft “Hey” and a kiss on the cheek before continuing, “Weather keeps saying the storm’s gonna last for a few days.”

In case you're still taking numbers: 23. If this is too late, feel free to ignore!
You're not too late! I'm gonna try and do as many of these as I can
23. in relief
from the kiss list / see the rest
Notes: don't be deceived by how this starts it's actually super fluffy I promise 😅
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blaine is running late. Usually this wouldn't bother Kurt. He doesn't make it his business to keep close tabs on his roommate, generally speaking. But it does bother him today because:
a) Blaine Anderson, neurotic sweetheart that he is, is almost never late. He plans routes with the sole goal of shaving off thirty seconds of travel time. He has an actual pocket watch for God's sake. And,
b) Kurt has lived in New York for five years now and he has never experienced snow in the city like this.
It's like a celestial being has dumped icing sugar directly over New York. It went from normal grey and slightly miserable looking to the sparkling white of a particularly fantastical Christmas card so fast, that Kurt feels like it happened between breaths. And, to coin a phrase, it's showing no signs of stopping.
The blizzard, because that's all it can be, is billowing across the city in huge icy gusts. The snow continues to fall. Kurt is sure that it's already up to his knee height just from a cursory glance out the window. And Blaine is out there. In that.
Kurt pulls out his phone and quickly taps out a message.
Kurt: Where are you?
His finger hovers over the send. Maybe he's jumping the gun a little. He's not out here trying to be an alarmist for no reason. He adds a smiley face to make it seem more bright and breezy and sends it off.
He marches agitatedly back to the window seat and peers out again, staring at the snow like he can make it stop through sheer willpower. He wants Blaine to be here. With him. Drinking hot cocoa and curled up next to him, watching old movies. Not fighting a storm, outside and alone.
Kurt's phone buzzes and he snatches it up. But it's not Blaine. It's an emergency alert for weather. No fucking kidding. But, worse than that, it's quickly followed by a news flash telling him the trains are now closed and no longer running.
The spool of worry that was just starting to unravel in Kurt's belly, drops and spills, unfurling uncontrollably until he's almost sick with it. He's aware he's barely given Blaine five minutes to answer the text but he starts a call to him anyway. It goes straight to voicemail. He swallows painfully.
He knows he's jumping straight to panic with no real evidence that anything is wrong. But he's received too many devastating phone calls in the last few years alone, to ever believe that things Like That could never happen to People Like Him. That bad things couldn't happen to the people he loves.
Blaine is more than a roommate. They've been together since the dorms at NYU. He's Kurt's best friend, his study buddy, his partner in crime. Kurt needs to know he's ok.
Kurt's phone buzzes again and he scrambles for it, but this time it's his dad.
Dad: Saw the weather alert kiddo. Hope you and Blaine are safe at home and you're stocked up.
Kurt: I'm home. But Blaine isn't back from work yet.
Kurt: I'm worried about him.
Kurt types out the message with the vain hope of a child whose parent is going to magically fix everything. Even though he's way too old for all that.
Dad: Well he's probably just been delayed by the storm. He'll be back any minute. Let's give him ten before we panic. You can always call him.
Kurt doesn't want to admit he's already called and that he doesn't feel particularly soothed by Burt's practicality. So he just sends back a thumbs up.
He calls Blaine again. It goes straight to voicemail. Kurt takes a steadying breath. He's letting the fear fuel him. Maybe all that's happening is that he keeps calling Blaine at the exact same time Blaine is trying to call him. That roommate psychic link they have that means they know exactly what take out food the other person needs in times of crisis is just in full effect. He resolves to wait for a few minutes to see if Blaine will get through.
It's painful. He takes to pacing, staring at the blank screen of his phone. The screen only reflects back his own pale face, mirroring his own stress. He unlocks it again, feeling squashed by his inability to do anything practical. He goes back to his message to Blaine to check the read receipts. It was never even received.
He moves toward the door and grabs his coat before he even knows what he's doing. Some instinctual part of him was really about to march out into a snow storm to… what? Where would he even begin looking for one tiny human in a city of millions. Blaine's probably not even out there. If he has any sense, he's hunkered down with a friend or colleague that lives nearer to his work.
Sensible thinking doesn't curb the growing terror. Kurt just knows that life without Blaine in it, is not a life that he really wants to contemplate, ever, and that's far too big a thought to try and explore right now. Not with his heart trying to claw its way out of his throat.
He slowly puts his coat back on the hook.
And that's exactly when the door opens and Blaine is walking through it, snow in his hair. "Holy hell, it's freezing out there," he says and he sounds so… normal. Cheerful even.
Kurt has to accept that all things considered Blaine is only twenty five minutes late home at most. But seeing him here so suddenly, whole and smiling, makes embarrassing tears spring to his eyes.
Blaine notices that he's standing right by the door and lifts an eyebrow. "What are you doing?"
"Where were you?" Kurt gasps before he can even attempt to act cool.
Blaine looks confused but then he seems to clock Kurt's expression and he softens instantly. "Were you worried? I'm so sorry. They closed the trains so I had to get off at a stop early and walk the rest of the way. Disaster."
"I called you…"
"Ah." Blaine ducks his head and pulls his phone from his pocket. It's spidered with vicious cracks. "Bad day to smash my phone."
Kurt looks from the broken phone to Blaine's face. He's pink from cold and his curls are loose and damp from the melting snow. He's beautiful. He's perfect and alive and he's here and God is he in trouble.
"You idiot," Kurt snaps. "You absolute idiot."
He doesn't even think. Fear and relief mingle into blind action. He grabs these lapels of Blaine's coat and hauls him forward. Straight into a crushing kiss. Blaine drops his phone again.
Kurt feels Blaine's ripple of surprise all the way down his body but then he relaxes and, after a moment, his lips respond under Kurt's. Kurt softens all at once, his mouth gentling and his hands feeling across Blaine's shoulders and back and down his arms, subconsciously checking that he's truly okay.
Blaine moves with him, turning his nose to tuck against Kurt's cheek and it's freezing but Kurt doesn't care. His arms have settled comfortably over Blaine's shoulders and he presses their chests flush, greedy to feel Blaine's responding heartbeat thumping against his.
He kisses Blaine until Blaine's mouth and cheeks are warm again. He kisses Blaine until Blaine's hands have moved to cup Kurt's jaw and neck and the small noise he makes shows it's obvious that he's not just being kind, and humouring Kurt's moment of madness, he's as lost in it as Kurt is. He kisses Blaine because he can't ever imagine stopping. And Kurt thinks oh.
It's Blaine that eventually breaks it, moving back only enough to rest their foreheads together. "Please tell me that wasn't just a 'thank God you're not dead' kiss," he breathes into the space between them. He sounds like he's trying to make a joke but the vulnerability and hopefulness are tangible.
"Not just that," Kurt assures. He feels dizzy and warm. And some things are starting to make a lot of sense. "I um… might be having an epiphany."
Blaine huffs a small laugh, intimate in its closeness. "Took you long enough."
Kurt wants to ask about that but there's too many thoughts crowding for space. "Let me make you a hot drink," Kurt says instead, pressing another soft kiss to Blaine's mouth to show it's not a rejection. Blaine needs to warm up and Kurt needs to de-stress and now is not the moment for life changing conversations. There will be time for all that.
~~~
Later, once Blaine is showered and dressed in dry clothes and Kurt has coaxed him into drinking two cocoas and they're wrapped around each other while they watch Wizard of Oz, Burt texts again.
Dad: I didn't hear anything else so assumed Blaine was safe. But just wanted to double make sure my third son was home.
Kurt smiles. Burt has always adored Blaine since the moment they became roommates in the dorms. Kurt's eyes slide to Blaine. He's resting in the vee of Kurt's spread legs, his back to Kurt's chest, his loose curls tickling Kurt's chin.
Kurt ducks down slightly to press a kiss to Blaine's clothed shoulder and Blaine turns into him, brushing his nose against Kurt's cheek. It feels so natural, being with Blaine like this. Kurt doesn't one hundred percent know what this means for them yet but he does know one thing. He opens the text from his dad back up.
Kurt: Yes. Blaine is home.

@daisyishedwig asked about my last five years/klivorce fic and who am i to turn down such a request <3
it’s based on the musical “the last five years” like i mentioned before and i have the full plot planned out and know how it’s gonna be paced. now i just have to write it lol
i’ll give a layout of what the first part of the story is gonna look like just so ppl who haven’t seen tlfy aren’t spoiled for anything
it begins at the end where we see a divorce obviously being hinted at, but then we flashback to five years before
kurt and blaine are college graduates from nyu living in new york (they met during their senior year)
blaine is a writer and kurt is an actor (or trying to be). blaine gets a call saying that his agent was able to get backing for his book publishing which is great!!
what isn’t as great is that while blaine is getting more and more famous, kurt is finding it harder and harder to book acting roles.
this causes tension obviously especially when they move back to ohio (which kurt HATES bc he hates ohio and acting roles are more plentiful in new york)
it continues to spiral from there but i don’t wanna give too much away!!

Hello! Could you recommend college slow-burns that don’t end when they start their relationship? Not necessarily friends to lovers (but I’m not opposed to it)
Hi - these might be what what you are looking for. ~Jen
The Symphony Verse by shandyall
Part 1 Interludes
Blaine has spent most of his life feeling like the only thing people notice about him is that he stutters. He’s working hard to overcome his (mostly self created) roadblocks when he meets Kurt in an online class the summer after his freshman year of college.
You should read all eight parts - well worth it.
~~~~~
The AV!verse by wordplay
Part 1 Epmera (starts when split. season 4, but goes into college years, au)
Futurefic. The history (so far) of a relationship, as told in objects. Archivists describe ephemera as documents that are meant to be thrown away or discarded after a single use. Those who find them interesting are drawn to the way they can illuminate everyday living and the things that are usually implicitly understood by the people who produced and consumed them. Life is complicated, and cluttered, and these tiny bits of information are the things that bind us as we struggle to live together.
The Talkative series By @forabeatofadrum maanorchidee
Part 1 These walls are really talkative
Four walls. One "cube" consisting his small private bathroom and kitchen. A wooden door. This will be Blaine Anderson's life for the following four years. Let's make the best of it.
Again, read all the series
~~~~ Victoria, please keep your secrets by @gleefulpoppet
[AU] Kurt is a senior at NYADA. Blaine is a senior at NYU. They’ve never crossed paths, but they’re about to—in the most unlikely place in all of New York City. (Or, the one where they meet in a lingerie store and find their happily ever after).

For the hdc game, Blaine Anderson 💓
Awww, Blainey! <3
Headcanon Time :
I've always headcanoned Blaine as ending up being a teacher at the collegiate level. I think it gives him room to still preform (though he does it less as he gets older) and he's really fucking good at it. The kids always go in thinking he's a pushover only to learn that Blaine really knows his stuff, and he can always tell when the kids are pulling shit while he has his back turned. There are also a couple of girls (and maybe gay guys) who take his class each semester because he's hot.
Blaine's got a bit of a dark side that sometimes surprises people. Kurt's always been the more outwardly vicious one, so when someone proclaims they're annoyed with someone, and Blaine jokes that they should just murder them and bury the body, everyone goes silent. And Blaine shrugs it off. He's still the cinnamon roll they all love. But he does love catching them off guard.
On the flip side of things, Blaine will adopt every stray animal he comes across and tries to get it into a home - whether it be a friend or to a shelter. It drives Kurt nuts, but as long as the puppies don't pee on any of Kurt's things, he's learned to accept this. (Blaine ends up keeping a few of the cute kittens, and names them after jazz artists)
Blaine and Cooper end up having a pretty good relationship as they get older. Blaine ends up being best man at Cooper's wedding, and is pretty active in his nieces and nephews' lives. As the kids get older, Blaine and Cooper end up having a family game night where things get very heated. Kurt abstains from the madness, not really understanding sibling competitiveness.
Blaine picks out his own clothes. He's actually pretty good at dressing himself. Kurt tries to make suggestions, and while he appreciates it, he isn't really thrilled with the stuff Kurt tries to get him to wear, so they make it a point not to do it very often. They do trade clothes, and wear each other's clothes from time to time. Kurt's permanently stolen Blaine's NYU t-shirt, though, and uses it to sleep in when Blaine's away because it smells like him.
Yay! These were fun, thanks! :)

Hey, @fallevs . . finally got a chance to respond!
So yeah . . you know, even though I'm usually a Klaine first kinda person - I am so down with a Sebklaine fic.
I think its because I really do love Sebastian in general as a character - I feel he could be the bad guy, the good guy, the snarky best friend, the rival, the instigator, the steamy romantic partner, the insecure guy hiding behind a facade or snobbery. Just love all the possibilities with him.
So in this fic, I was thinking that they'd be first strangers to friends to lovers.
Kurt's in search of a new place to live while he finishes out his graduate degree at NYU, but absolutely detests student housing. So he had heard from a friend that a couple of guys were looking for a roomate - and those guys happen to be Blaine and Sebastian, who also happen to be in a relationship together.
Blaine and Seb are very secure in their relationship . . and their sex life. Kurt catches them a few times going at it in the apartment So needless to say, being around all that is getting Kurt a bit frustrated for himself, because he isn't seeing anyone at the time.
Seb's all snarky and flirty and Blaine is all sweet and considerate around Kurt so Kurt can't help but start to have a bit of a crush on both of his roomies.
Lets just say some things lead to other things and next thing Kurt knows Blaine and Seb are offering to help him out with his frustration 😉
And god help me, now as I'm thinking of it, this might actually have a little bit of a plot and could be longer than I thought . . maybe not a PWP after all 😂
Thanks for the ask, @fallevs ! 😊

If anyone wants to ask me anything about my WIP . . .

unexpected- day 1 of 7
by: @kurtsascot
POLL AT THE END DECIDES ROMANCE TROPE
———
The coffee shop is short staffed. Blaine’s favorite barista isn’t there. They are training someone new who can’t seem to get the hang of things, and one of the espresso machines is down.
Blaine can’t be late to class. He just can’t.
It’s not that his professors care if he’s late, truthfully- NYU is massive, and most don’t bother learning names, let alone take attendance- but, well, it’s still early in the semester, and Blaine wants to leave a good impression.
He’s a good student. He likes school. He likes going to class and he likes New York, even if last semester had some… relationship challenges.
It’s a new year.
It’s a fresh start.
Anything can happen.
And, things are looking up. Blaine’s name is called, and his coffee, his saving grace, is gingerly placed on the counter.
Eager, Blaine smiles, pushes through the disgruntled crowd of customers, slaps on the vent lid, and turns on his heel to leave.
If he’s quick, he can make it to his lecture on time.
Blaine maneuvers his way out of the shop. It’s the second week of January and the temperature is well below freezing. But it’s not too bad. He got mittens for Christmas and they buffer the chill. His coffee is also radiating heat through the wool- another benefit of his patience. Today, he’ll stay warm, and once the coffee is cold enough to drink, everything will be perfect. It should be cold enough by the time he gets on the subway.
Blaine struggles to keep his school bag on his shoulder and hold his cup when he closes the glass door on his exit.
As he turns the corner, lost in thought, planning the quickest way to get to campus, he walks right into someone.
Like- right into them.
On reflex, Blaine squeezes the coffee cup to prevent it from flying out of his hands.
His mittens limit his dexterity.
The lid pops off.
Scalding liquid rises,
breeching the lip of Blaine’s to-go cup,
and coffee splatters all over the man in front of him.
…
Shit.
“Shit!” The man’s light blue down jacket is stained with Blaine’s dark-roast, and, unfortunately, the puffer wasn’t fully zipped- his button down underneath is also soaked, completely ruined.
Blaine gapes at the cup in his hand. It’s entirely empty. His gloves are sopping wet and his hands are on fire.
“I’m sorry,” he tries, shaking his head and hating how whiny he sounds. Are these gloves machine-washable? He’s sticky, in pain, and,
and he’s going to be late.
Shit. No way he’s not going to be late. “I was-That’s my fault.”
Blaine takes a second to collect himself and then musters the courage to meet the guy’s eyes.
And, when he does,
He freezes.
